Like the ocean, we should live while embracing the universe

The ocean, when calm, is mystifying and has the power to draw people in like a captivating, beautiful woman who is like a queen of mystery. The ocean may look silver, but it also takes on a jade color. At other times, the ocean takes on different hues. When the gentle breeze rustles by, the beauty of the ripples takes my breath away. No matter how well a dancing girl dances, her beauty does not come near to that. To see a dancer, you have to see her dance on a stage, but a stage is too small.

On the other hand, the ocean's stage spreads out to infinity. Do you know how vast the ocean's stage is? The ocean can be like a beautiful woman or a dancing girl, but once it becomes angry it can be more frightening than a tiger or a lion rushing towards you in the wilderness. Think about it. When waves that are tens of meters high come rushing in, the cry of a seagull stands not a chance. The ocean roars, "No matter how well you sing, no matter how great a stage actor you may be, you do not stand a chance before my majestic vigor." The ocean's might is imposing.

A speed boat easily glides across the sea when the water is calm. But when big waves come, it is impossible to move around. You just sit, wagging your tail and shaking your head, tossed about by the waves as they come. You have no power over them. (128-249, 1983.8.28)

The power of nature is great. That is why people who love the ocean cannot be arrogant. The ocean has that kind of greatness. If you open the doors to the ocean and look inside, you will find all kinds of fish living there, from fish that are gold in color to fish that are yellow and blue, and even fish that are colorless. When you compare the land with the ocean, which is more beautiful? The land, with its variety of birds, flowers and butterflies, is beautiful, but limited. Flowers do not move. Compared with the profusion of beautiful sea creatures that dance about in dazzling, brilliant colors, these things are somewhat dull. So which is more beautiful, the land or the ocean? The ocean is more beautiful.

Why did God create this thing called water? We can say that water is a special amusement device for God to enjoy. He hid its depths away and did not open it to the public. When you observe creation in this way, you can conclude that God probably had more interest in the ocean than the land.

People who think about the future take more interest in the ocean than the land. God's interest is in the future ideal family that has yet to emerge. That is why, rather than focusing His interest in the things that have appeared on earth in history, it is inevitable that God should take interest in the marine world that focuses on the future. This would make sense. With this perspective, we could say that people who think about the ocean are people who envision the future, and they will greatly increase. (128-249, 1983.8.28)

The freedom one has when sitting with a fishing rod is beyond description. Would you be able to take a walk in that situation? You only have a small space in which to move about and cook your meals. Could you go to the theater or go out to meet your friends? You cannot even listen to music because you need to be silent. That is why you must gaze at the ocean and talk with the sea and the heavens. It is the greatest feeling to be at sea alone in the very place where the ocean and heaven become one. I constantly go out to the sea to benefit spiritually and in all ways. If I stay at home the entire day, I become distracted and end up thinking about the world missionaries, church problems and other matters, yet only vaguely and in fragments. But when I go out to the sea, I can think more comprehensively. Because of this, I love the ocean a great deal. I believe that is why the phrase "the way of fishing" came about. (79-270, 1975.9.1)

God's Will and the Ocean
Vision and Providence in Ocean Church

The ocean encompasses an incredible variety of moods. The calm sea is like a beautiful woman, and the beach sand is like silk -- dazzling beauty and peace. But that is not all the ocean presents to you -- a little breeze and the water starts to dance -- just a little bit. No matter what kind of a ballerina or dancer you may find, you can never compare her/him to the dancing of the ocean! The dancer is on a small, limited stage, but the ocean dances without limit. There is no end to its stage.

Sea birds fly around, coming and going, landing and taking off, all with different shapes, but all with harmony. Sea gulls come, and they sing and present beautiful harmonious motion. Sometimes this beautiful scene is changed dramatically by the sudden volcanic explosion of a huge whale jumping out of the water. The splashing water shines, reflecting the light -- just incredible beauty. So much variety and change!

When the ocean gets mad it definitely shows its dignity and power as if it's saying, "Anyone who comes at me -- I will swallow you." Indeed, the ocean can swallow anything riding on it.

Normally, a high-speed boat runs beautifully on calm water just like on a silky highway, but once those waters get mad, splashing with high waves, that boat becomes helpless. When the waves go up, the boat answers, "Yes sir, yes sir!" When the waves suddenly drop down the boat can only obey because there nature is the most powerful and the ocean says, "You listen to me. Here I am!" For that reason, men and women who love the sea cannot be boastful, cannot be arrogant. They must know how to humble themselves to the overpowering strength of nature.

On the land you see green. Sometimes you see butterflies or birds flying around, but everything is stationary. In the ocean, however, the varieties of fish are moving in all kinds of ways and from one place to another, demonstrating their own beauty. So is there greater beauty and incredible mystery on land or in the ocean? [Ocean]

When you put yourself in God's position and ask, Why did God make the ocean?" we might say, "It's because God would be bored with the land in just a few days, but the ocean is never boring. The sea and the ocean represent the future vision, the future dream." Therefore, anyone linked to a futuristic vision must be interested in the ocean. In this way, he is bound to become a visionary person.

Insisting on your own way is not acceptable

What you have is surely gold dust, but it is gold dust in the sand, contained in ore or in the earth; hence, it needs to be placed in a furnace and melted down. It must be smelted. This is the standard procedure. As the granules of gold melt and become liquid, would they say, "This is good!" or make a big fuss, saying, "Oh no, I am dying, I am dying?" Although they may say they will die, granules of gold do not actually die. If you want to be pure, you have to deny up to 98 percent of yourself. That which is truly you is only 2 percent. So then, what do you think you need to do? How miserable this is! Think whether the life of an Unificationist is miserable or happy. Then would Rev. Moon, the center of the Unificationists, be happy or miserable? I have a hope that although I was miserable at the beginning, I will be happy later. When there is persecution, you should think, "I am going into the furnace. This is coming because I am still not perfect." If persecution comes, let it come. If people want to persecute us, let them persecute us! You should want to be inside the furnace until you become pure gold. This is how you can become pure gold quickly. As for those who are walking the path of abandoning their 98 percent and becoming 100 percent pure gold, how much endurance do you think they have to have? How much pain do you think they will endure? But you should still have the conviction to go forward.

Even if the people of the world evaluate you as 100 percent pure gold, the question is whether you will be a 100 percent when God picks you up with a tweezers and evaluates you. This is my worry. God has His view of 100 percent pure gold and I have my suggestion for 100 percent pure gold. Between the two, I want my 100 percent to be greater. How about that? I want my claim to be greater. Then, there should be no impurity, no insisting upon your own way. Does not God insist on His own way? Yes, God insists on His own way. God also has a nature to insist on His own way. In order to be purer, we should not insist on having our own way. Then, we will be 100 percent pure gold and be at a standard higher than the pure gold evaluated by God. We can think this way. If we are totally and eternally free from a mind of selfinsistence, which thinks of the self as the center, we can be something that is more than 100 percent pure.

What is pure gold? It refers to its original form, without any impurity whatsoever. To meet the standard of pure gold, a nation must be a place where the people live enraptured in love, without any selfcenteredness for hundreds and thousands of years. Those who possess such love are like a great queen or king. I am telling you to be such a wife or husband. When you become pure gold this way, do you need God? God is already contained within you. You will not need Him. So you should be such people.

Human Beings Seek the Center of Love

Human beings are born through love, grow up in parental love, and mature while broadening love horizontally. Horizontal love reaches the completion of the first stage when man and woman meet and grow together to the state where they can represent the love of heaven and earth and bear children as the fruit of that love. Children are born from the heart's core as a result of love.

The child who is born from a man and woman who share love based on heart creates a path to the center of love. This center will lead them directly to God. By having children as a fruit of love, human beings come to deeply experience the love with which God created all things and human beings. By loving their children, they deeply experience the love they received from their parents and the parental heart. The love parents have been pouring into their children is not a materialistic love but an intrinsic love.

The love that parents give their children does not change even if heaven and earth change and historical ages change. By becoming a parent and loving your children, you will understand and deeply experience how God has been loving human beings. By becoming a parent and loving your children, you will feel and realize how much your parents have loved you.

This is why we revere our aged parents even more and fulfill the duties of filial piety with love. If you do not fulfill these responsibilities, you are unqualified to be parents and your love towards your children can only be considered hypocritical.

Human beings should feel and realize how much God has loved them by becoming parents themselves and loving their children. Furthermore, they will love God even more sincerely. A person should love their aged parents more than they love their children and love God more than they love their parents, knowing that this is the order and law of love.

Because heaven and earth has a spherical shape, they share horizontal love and rotate, forming a circle on the first level. When they take a partner of the opposite sex and share love, they have children as the fruit and become parents. When they love each other and rotate, vertical love is realized following the horizontal love. This forms the spherical world and establishes the center of love at the same time.

The center of love that emerges through the movement created by these love relationships is also the core of existence of the entire world of creation. The earth exists because it is also moving continuously around this center of love. The center of love is where infinite force is gathered that enables continuous movement. The center that appears through the sphere of love in this manner is also a place where God dwells. Therefore, all creation existing in the world is born and exists through God's love and moves in search for the center of God's love. God is a furnace of love.

Then how can God create this kind of environment? He cannot do it by saying, "You religious people must achieve self-denial all by yourselves!" No, we can't do it that way. The standard of self denial must be created within reciprocal relationships. If you are pushed into the position of being denied by somebody else, it is the same as self-denial. Since you cannot create the sphere of denial by yourselves, God Himself creates it. Therefore, a religious person will be opposed by everybody. This is the deeper meaning of persecution. When you believe in God and in religion, often those who are closest to you, such as your parents or loved ones will oppose you. In such a case, Satan, as the second subject, is attacking the first subject God. When someone strikes a righteous person unjustly, it sets a condition that must be repaid. Because of this repayment, the development of religion is secured. Do you understand why persecution occurs?

Think of human history. In the beginning, evil took the initiative and brought about the fall. The relationships between God and man, and Adam and Eve, were infiltrated and attacked. That is the original characteristic of evil. The attacker may inflict certain harm or destruction, but it is a universal law that eventually that person will have to not only restore the damage but pay a penalty as well. God knows this universal principle. Then, do you think He take the initiative in any war? No. God has never initiated attacks.

What about the people who are on the side of God? Can they say, "God, You are too good!You sit down, we will fight"? God's true people will never initiate an attack. An aggressive action will never be taken by God's people. God's people are always being attacked, but they endure, persist and move on. That's the characteristic of God's people. Always under attack, they take the beating but never give up.

It is a universal law that you become a winner by being attacked. The aggressor has to pay the damage plus a penalty. So you must endure and survive the attack on the individual level, then on the family level, national level and the worldwide level. You must withstand, survive and persevere. In the end, you will receive the entire universe because Satan and evil have to pay you the damage plus the penalty. That's how God's side will win.

Why Satan Must Be Denied

God's ideal was lost by the fall. How did mankind fall? Through love. The beginning point of love is not the eye or the mouth, but is the sexual parts of man and woman. The connecting point of love is the place where all the sensations come together. The real standard of love was lost at this point, so the male and female relationship was the cause of all the problems of the entire universe.

Because of this, everything has to be restored or recreated. How can we do this? One major result of the fall is that we came under two lords, or two subjects. If we had only one subject and one lord, it would not be such a problem to restore everything and return to the original state.

Where is the world of God's original ideal? We have to search for the original ideal and rearrange the fallen world. This is not easy. To do this, Adam has to deny himself and Eve has to deny herself. If there are 10 members in a family, and all 10 of them try to make unity by asserting themselves, unity is impossible. If there are 10 members in a family, all 10 must deny themselves. Before anything else, God must ask for self-denial in the fallen human world. Before He seeks for the ideal, He must seek the denial, the denial of the fall. Man has no foundation to assert himself. This is God's viewpoint.

Then what is the order of such denial? It is from the external to the internal. In the fallen realm, there is the external world of nation, race, and clan, as well as family. Also there is the couple -- man and woman together. We must deny ourselves beginning from the outside, from the external side. The point we finally arrive at is the denial of our own body and our thinking. We cannot but go this far. We live in the fallen world, so to seek God's will, to seek the point of self-affirmation on earth, we must deny the fallen world completely. The new starting point begins only after setting this standard. This is logical.

Why do we need the indemnity taught by the Unification movement? We must know the reason clearly. None of you in the Unification movement understands clearly the meaning of individual indemnity, family indemnity, clan, race, and national indemnity. Why do we have to do such a thing? This is a serious matter.

For God to make a new start, He must clean up everything. There must be no other subject being, no Satan. God must be the absolute and only subject. God cannot set His new starting point unless Satan's position is completely removed. For man to deny himself is not that much of a problem. The problem is to deny Satan who controls man. Accordingly, after man completely denies himself, God has to set the standard that completely denies Satan. Otherwise there still remain two subjects. Even if man denies himself, still Satan remains. If an alien subject, who is centered upon the false love, remains in the presence of God and the universe, there are two standards, and the starting step for perfection cannot be made. How can we deny Satan? This is an absolutely necessary condition in order to make a new starting point on the earth for God and humanity. We must see the denial of the false god. God Himself can stand as the subject only when He stands on the foundation of that denial and is able to take His position as the subject of love. Do you understand?

How then can this be achieved? This is the question. In this fallen world, its standard is there are two subjects or dual subjects; thus, the same situation remains in individual, family. Then, the same remains in clan, people, nation, the world and the universe. This is logical conclusion. Do you understand?

Then, what is restoration through indemnity? One who desires to reach the absolute unique subject must fulfill the condition of absolute denial in relation to everything in one's environment. For this, absolute denial is required. Then at what place does restoration through indemnity become fulfilled? Even one iota of a condition for self-affirmation cannot remain. It must be completely in the realm of the denial. The condition of indemnity is paid by fulfilling the condition of absolute denial. When this standard is fulfilled in all eight stages, from the individual, family, clan and so on, one can reach the ideal world at the consummation of human history. You must necessarily go through the process at each of the eight stages. Otherwise one cannot reach the ideal where he can communicate with God.

Prayer: Since I became aware of Your Will I have gone forward like a crazy man

Father,

I am now at the headquarters church in Chong-padong. How many sorrowful twists and turns there have been during the course of Your Will. Since I became aware of Your Will I have gone forward like a crazy man, never stopping to think of myself. Now I stand before You, Father, more than sixty years old already. Your journey has been endless -- far beyond anyone's comprehension.

I have walked this path because of the mistake of Christianity. I am trying to bring forgiveness again through this new religious denomination. Through our organizing the God Conference and the World Youth Leaders' Seminar, I pray that You can show us the remnants of Your original heart, regarding the poor and pitiful members of the Unification Church who are struggling desperately to become Your children, Father, I know how much You have longed and waited for the time when, together with the whole universe, You could love and victoriously praise Your son who has endured so much hardship. When I think about this I am unable to breathe -- unable to eat -- and practically immobilized.

Our Unification Church members don't know the depth of this sorrow -- so deep that one could break down in tears at any time, even while walking down the street.

Father, You have given me the responsibility to come here and teach. Please help those here to understand these words and let them be engraved in their memories. I dearly hope that You can bless them so that these people, whom You love so much, can go a straight path, facing the gates of Heaven with the correct attitude.

The day when we can boast of being the citizens of Your country, and of definite authority, is not far off. Those Unification members are now faced with an urgent situation; having crossed the seventh, eighth, now, the ninth mountain ridges, they are in the process of crossing the tenth, and have another three years left. Please bestow Your blessings on this three year course to restore Canaan.

We pray that we can unite the free world, and ask Your blessing on our efforts. Let us not waver at the final battle front, but march forward with staunch hearts to victory. We thank You for the time You have given us today. Even if we have to go the most miserable path, leaving this destiny to later generations to accomplish, we pray that You can hold onto these families so that, even if they collapse, their work can be used for your Will.

Father! How can I, just one person, help everybody? I know that only with an anguished heart can everything be solved. As we know that everything cooperates with those in such a position, and that everything leads us towards victory, please make us able to go this course no matter how lonely, no matter how full of anguish. Father, please let each couple make a new determination, offering a tearful pledge to you. Let the Unification Church blessed families blossom like flowers of hope, burning with new hope.

I have come here today to accomplish this work. Please bless us so that we can become good sons and daughters, Your successors who can walk forward proudly. Please receive this resolution with joy. I ask that you allow the glory of ten thousand Manseis and love to be with us. I pray all these things in True Parents' name.
