Our Leader Returns to Korea

On July 22, 1973, at 11:10 a.m., the Korean Family formed a welcome line at Kimpo Airport, watched our Leader's children break away from the waiting area, trot down the receiving walkway, hesitate at the corner, look down the hall, and then burst into the fastest runs they could manage. It was obvious Father and Mother were finally home!

The long, lonely nine months faded immediately into the joy of clapping and welcoming bows as our Leader surrounded by-his whole family walked between the waiting lir.es of Family members. Meanwhile, members throughout the whole country had gathered at the Sootaek-Ri Training Center for a welcoming ceremony.

Master and his party first stopped at Chungpadong Church for lunch and then joined the rest of the Family at Sootaek-Ri. In spite of the heat and humidity in the hall packed with two to three thousand people that caused one's glasses to fog, Master spoke for over three hours. His energy never fails him. Even the members who have known him for twenty years were surprised at his power.

Tears poured down faces as he reminded each one that the way to God is not just for Koreans, Japanese or Americans. The whole world is our country, and everything is for God. All our happiness and battles should be for God, to defeat Satan. The individual, family, and nation should be sacrificed for the world.

If we have an individual problem, it is not really an individual Problem, it is God's problem. The greatest problem for all is to be able to follow God.

He said that on his way home from Japan, he thought very seriously to himself, "Why do you go this way? No one wants to go." Up until today, everybody has been against him, his family, his teachers, the leaders of Christianity, and the leaders of Korea. He could never have continued for himself, but since he was doing it for God, he could not give up as long as there was God. He reminded us that we are not following him, but rather God.

He spoke of America and how hard the Japanese members are working there. He said that sometimes they even fell asleep when walking. Such a sight makes him weep in his heart, but this is the way of God today; such a difficult path. He reminded us of our late president Eu, who couldn't even use one leg, yet at one time even though he had pneumonia, he lectured the Divine Principle ten hours a day while lying down. He said that older members should not feel self-satisfied, content to have heard the Divine Principle six or seven times; they must know the dispensation of heaven.

He reminded us that Adam and Eve were created by God, and He loved them so much, but they failed him. We are their descendants after many thousands of generations, and still God cannot trust us. He cannot believe us when we say we believe in Him. If we want God to believe us we must devote ourselves to him more than our first ancestors should have.

He spoke of the kind of love we should have in our Family. If we are old enough to be the parents of a man who is thirty years old, even in spite of our age and position we should love the younger man as we would Jesus. And if we are younger, we still should love those older as we would Jesus. In this love we would be a great Family. For our Family to fulfill its mission, it is not enough to bless couples, but all these couples must become one in heart. Likewise, in a seven year period, we should bring eighty-four people to God, but even that is not enough. We must help them to become one in heart with God and each other if we are to establish the Kingdom of Heaven.

After his talk there was time for dinner, while he went to Chung Pyung Lake to pray. He returned around 8:30 that evening for fellowship and entertainment, provided by his children and members from throughout the country. Hyo Jin, his oldest son, played the violin, and In Jin, his third child, amazed everyone with a fine piano solo. The children of the blessed couples who work at the Main Church and their mothers prepared special songs led by Hyo Jin, and traditional Korean dancing acts followed. The Western members presented a welcoming speech in Korean, a short comedy skit, and a song done together with some Japanese members.

It was wonderful to see our Leader relax and laugh even if only for a short time. Early the next morning he began meetings with people which continued until 4:00 a.m. the next day, thus beginning his schedule for the short month he will be in Korea. (He left Korea August 7th for America.)

If you stir the water in a lake, the waves go in four directions. As you stir, stronger and stronger waves go out -- influencing people in all directions. It is the same thing with sound waves going out. A leader should be able to work this way.

Those who are newly appointed State Representatives or Commanders should really serve wherever you are sent. You have to build up, you have to serve them first, gradually win them (the members); win the credit, instead of from the beginning bossing everybody around. It doesn't work that way. You must first serve them; then you build up the foundation. As time goes by, they will respect you. Instead of from the beginning, "I am your boss" -- and your acting as though you know everything -- that is your problem right there.

I will give you the reasons why this lady, [Young] Soo Lim [Oni Durst], has had continual success. I will tell you a few points. Number one: she has absolute faith. Whenever our True Parents, Master says something, she accepts it, she believes that it is possible. She also believes in spiritual cooperation -- the next thing -- and she really puts things into action by herself. She is involved with other people, not just sitting in an armchair. She is not an armchair theorist or an armchair sort of leader. She also has a good heart for embracing and listening to people -- and raising them -- so those who have contacted her group are coming in and will never leave. Once they are touched and impressed, they keep coming and coming. So she is becoming the model, with all those elements, so that she is inspiring people and bringing success, nothing else.

When all you people -- Mobile Unit Commanders, State Representatives and Church Center Directors -- go to the front-line, you have to stand and work in front, instead of your members being used by you. Then, after you have a foundation within your group, you can use everybody, because they will respect you, there will be a oneness. And you can use your members as your own legs and arms, your instruments, your help. From then on, you can sit in the back and claim yourself a leader. But in the beginning, don't try to be a leader bossing them around. You are the boss, of course, but you have to serve first, give something. Victory does not come from the office plan -- victory comes from the actual situation, actual battlefield. Victory comes from there, not from theory. Especially in spiritual work: work really should be applied; the victory will come in the front-line, not from your plan, your office plan. So you should be standing, working hard at the front. Those who have been doing this, in front, serving, raise your hands. Our Master himself stood in front until a firm foundation was set up. So you have to do the same thing. When you get the twigs or branches in the front-line, then a new bud, new branch, will come out. If you are going to expand your work, you have to sit in front, where you can get spiritual cooperation; you can lead the people without any trouble, without any internal trouble; you will grow and multiply.

So, as a leader, you are not supposed to be a burden to your members. If you advance, if you go forward, in front, the Principle says that you will automatically multiply. If the tree is not dead, this multiplication will spread. Your success will not come through using people cleverly -- but you must show the motive. Through this, these people will follow you. So this is the cross line, which decides whether you will succeed or not. So, if you go back to your front-line, practice this new direction, new instruction -- stand and fight in front. Not have your other members in front -- but walk together. In Korea, we have 40-day training, during which one person continuously lectures. Sometimes his nose or mouth bleeds, he is so tired -- that is working in the front also. He does not use you people as that kind of lecturer -- we have two people here, at the moment, teaching the Divine Principle. But he does not demand this kind of intensive pattern, which we have in Korea. In Korea we do this with only one person teaching.

So, we are a heavenly family, and we must work together. One sitting back in luxury and the others working -- that is not fair. So, if you know this kind of thing -- what the Korean family does -- you have to complain in a positive way, and say, "We want to do more." Sometimes the Japanese family works more than over eight hours -- and the Dutch family also -- but some of the American ways of reasoning... they plan to stop at a certain time. He doesn't like that idea -- he wants to push his own way. We have to get rid of this kind of feeling. In other words, the leaders should be in the front-line. This is the battlefield; we are in the front-line. At any moment, our enemy might come in and destroy us -- this is an invisible battle we are fighting. We have to be ready even in the nighttime, when we are sleeping, anytime be alert. So he wants you people to be the models, as leaders, to work in front. Even the things he is doing how -- he does them behind the scenes, instead of showing himself to the world as the leader, claiming leadership. But he does everything by himself, as if he is in front. Parents should usually serve the children more than the children serve them. In the same way: you are parents to the four million people of your state, wherever you are. So you have to pray after all your members have gone to bed. Alone, you have to pray for them. You should know every day about each of your members -- in the early morning -- so you have to know the condition of their minds, spiritual condition. And if you feel, through your knowledge, that there is a need for spiritual counseling -- you have to say what's wrong with them. This is the parental role you have to take. It doesn't happen automatically. When you are in the role of the parents, you are the parents. In the early days, our Master would pray for six hours for one person -- he continually prayed. So you have to pray for your troops.

When you raise spiritual children, your members, this is not office work. Raising them is a spiritual matter, it is not office work. You are dealing with souls, you are dealing with children. Sometimes the baby becomes sick, and you have to take care of him. So, if your baby is crying, you can't say, "I can't come, this is my office time." You cannot neglect your baby because you are in the office. You can't do that. Twenty-four hours you are obligated to this group; so you had better stand and work in front. So, Neil [Salonen] and his wife should be standing... then later, after have you taken care of all the foundations, passed through all the stages, then automatically you will sit behind and control it and instruct it after that time. Master does not like those people who are sitting in the back, trying to be in a big position, doing nothing and using other people. He doesn't like it. So far do you understand him? [YES!] In this way, you will develop and have success.

Why does spirit world have to serve and cooperate with him? He is even bothered by the spirit world if he sits and does nothing -- so he even goes ahead of the spirit world and influences them. He is pushing the spirit world. So there is no other way but for the spirit world to come down and help him. He is sitting in the front, being in front of them, in the front-line. You think of that line: the enemy is right there, over that line about 100 yards away -- so at any time they can attack you. So you cannot be lazy -- you have to be alert. So, this time he is speaking about another case: he had a Mobile Unit Commander visit, even violating your traffic laws at 95, he just let his limousine run. Even though everyone else slept in the car, he was wide awake and in control. This means he is working in front. During his first, 1965, visit to the States, the same thing: day and night he drove, he let his car be driven. He did finish his schedule. So when you fight against your enemy, there is no night or day. At any time, he may attack; there is no night or day. If you think there is a night, "Let's sleep; at night we sleep, in the morning we fight," it doesn't work that way, anything may attack at night. So we are in the battlefield.

So seriously think about this nation of America from now on, what is going to take place. What are we to do about the economic depression that is approaching? Exports are increasing; wages and living prices will become higher. Everybody would like to have cheaper commodities. So foreign products, which are cheaper than your products, are imported here -- and they will devise cheaper ones. So you produce your good ones and the price is different; cheaper ones exist, though yours is of better quality. But everyone will buy the cheapest one with good quality; so they don't buy your stuff -- they don't buy your products, even sound instruments and electronic equipment. So this nation is moving toward a fear of depression. You have different races living together. When a crisis occurs, they will go their own directions -- individualistic ideas -- so you cannot have unity. Fortunately, the spirit of Christianity is at the moment, temporarily, holding together and maintaining your country. If a crisis comes, there will be no way to continue. The issue of race will become the big issue. All the different races will go their own way; you will have no unity, you will have separation from one another, and then the nation will be weakened. Judaism and Christianity are enemies. There is danger of the Jewish people controlling the economic power in this country; if they stick together, they could very easily take over the economic situation of this nation. With this kind of condition, a division of all races -- not only color, black and white -- but divisions between the races will come about. It has worked all right so far, because the power of your nation has surpassed or taken dominion in that area. But if the power of your nation is decreasing, all these problems will mushroom and you cannot even handle them, you cannot control it. Thus, the threat of Communism exists in this country. The family system has broken down; individualistic imperialism is prevailing -- people don't love families, they don't love society, they don't love nations -- only the individual. There are many, many self-destructive elements in your country. These exist. We now urgently need some kind of ideology, some new direction based on Christianity, to save this nation from destruction. This kind of idea must come out to prevent and deter Communism. A new nationalistic temperament is necessary; even under economic depression we have to have a moral acumen to overcome this situation.

In the near future, this is to happen; so we are preparing ourselves to meet those problem areas. We are preparing ourselves to conquer, to overcome that difference, to revive the Christian people, and to prevent the spread of Communism. We would like to set up a self-economy system. So we have to love the family, the nation and the world more than ourselves, "me." So we are the only group, the only institution that this nation needs very badly. Our movement surpasses any single race or nation; we have an interracial, interfaith, international character. This nation could very soon come to us and welcome us -- because we have something to offer. So we are preparing for it. God's predestined year is, at the most, 210 years... you have 197 years as of today... 200, at the most, till your lot will be ended -- only thirteen years left for this nation. God gave a limited time, unfortunately. So you have to know the nation in which you were born. You have to be thinking that this America will go away, and a new and different America should come about. That is what you are doing. You are dating that new America. Do you believe whit he says? [YES!]

So, we have only 13 years now; how are we going to do it? We have to speed up. Even if you are going to make a college or university, it takes more than 13 years. But you are going to rebuild this nation. Then we need a miracle. We have to surpass some kinds of normal things; otherwise, there is no way to accomplish it. That is what we are doing. That is the only way left in heaven -- no other way. Do you agree with him? [YES!] That is why there is no night anywhere -- just relaxing or sleeping -- there is no daytime. No, nothing exists. So do you think that our Master is wrong in saying all of these peculiar things? [NO!]

So, from Master's point of view, it is even harder for him to use you people, who are so low, so full of junk, so full of incapability -- harder for him to use you people. Do you think so? [YES!] Why in the world does Master accomplish anything; why has he come here to go through this difficult path? If there were no God, he would not even step into this country. Who blesses this nation? If there were no God, he and you would be strangers, would not necessarily have to be together. And could we meet if there were no God between you and him? [NO!] Well, why did the Japanese people come to this country? Because of God! That is why they are here, because of God this thing happens. So we have nothing to do, if we have no goal. This kind of God needs us -- and we are going to take on the responsibility to do God's work. That is why we are gathered here. Without that, why would we monkey around here?

So because of God this house was purchased; he did not come to the States as a luxurious place. Until very recently, he even insisted that no one in the Korean or Japanese families live in America. He even insisted. "There is nothing to learn in this country," he said. Now he is doing all this revolutionary work, and has to work hard. Why does he do that? In order to save this country. If it were to save your nation only, he would not have come. He wanted to save the whole nation and then the whole world. That is why he had to come here. If you think you are here to save only your own nation, you are entirely wrong. You are here to save first your own nation -- and then, with this nation, to save other nations. That is why -- because this is a blessed nation and a chosen nation. So he is here to do this kind of work. He has enough money and enough property to live until his physical life is over, for himself -- but he did not come to make money in this country. Very simply, he can eat three meals very easily. He has already made this kind of money or property for his whole family -- so he did not come here to make money. Even when he is using money from other sources -- this is being used for the whole world.

So, in the worldly sense, you are in the wrong place, our True Parents are the wrong persons for you. Now you have to listen to him, even without sleeping, and you cannot get out of it. You are really trapped by him. Why are you doing this? Because of whom? [GOD!] What kind of God is that? He is our Father -- and our family, our nation, should save this world. That is why we are doing this. Father, God our Father, is working harder than we are. How can a child of our Father sit still and do nothing? We can't do that. God does not sleep, you see -- He is awake all the time. When you sleep you have to repent: "I am sorry I have to sleep, forgive me." You cannot sleep in a double bed, with a beautiful mattress, or something like that -- that kind of thing, you cannot do. When you think of God's situation, really think of His situation, you cannot do that. So, if you do suffer and undertake a situation, God will love you and will provide more for you.

The position of Father... son and daughter means more time for your family. What is a loyal servant? A loyal servant -- well you might think, "In my youth... I am getting old and my youth is going away." So, why doesn't Master come here, give us all the blessing, match us together, before this kind of suffering -- you might think that. Why doesn't he give us the blessing quick? So, if he did that right now, half of you would go away -- so he cannot give it to you right now. If he did that, he would be adding something [negative] to God's dispensation -- not plus -- so he cannot do that right now, There is order; and if, right now, you are moving toward a match, and if he were to bless you, overall, would we be adding something or bringing a minus? Which one? [MINUS!] So, he cannot do that. Then you must quickly restore the nation -- and then you can set up your family. That is the first thing you have to do: destroy the enemy first, make a safe zone -- then they cannot steal you back. It will be bad for those old misses -- but they just have to see the general condition; it is a total sacrifice in such times. The older you get, without it, the more beautiful a wife you will become; and you will get the smartest and most hand some husband. There are hundreds of billions of them -- so you don't have to worry about it. So, all these nuns and priests, single people, celibates, have to pay the price, the indemnity price. So, if you think about it, it is very simple: then you will have future good fortune and an eternal husband or wife in the spirit world -- what's wrong with it? Suppose she does not receive the blessing on earth? She will be blessed in heaven, be better rewarded -- have a better choice. Then, with her case, all those nuns who did go to the spirit world without knowing this will be liberated because of the little lady. Then, by sacrificing one nun, thousands of millions will be liberated in the spirit world -- what a wonderful Mother Nun she is, maybe. And you will be the chief Mother Nun. (David S. C. Even if you are in a period of indemnity, don't be sad. You will be rewarded many-fold; multiple luck will be yours. He knows this; that is why he, is pushing you people. It doesn't matter if it is 10 years, 80 years, 100 years on this earth plane -- eternal life is waiting for you. This 100-year life is just like one second of breathing spent, even though you don't see it this way. So he said it is even shorter than one second -- this life of yours -- when you compare it to eternal life. Because he knows this... says that when he was young he was the most handsome of all the young men. Do you believe it? [YES!] He has versatility in every way, every field. He is able to do anything. Any job, he will make it. Many, many women are fascinated by him -- even one glance -- appearance itself, not necessarily talking about the internal. Maybe by American standard or point of view Master has a small eye size -- but that doesn't matter.

So, if there is no God, we have nothing, nothing to do. Even if he does the same thing, if there is no God, even our True Mother... so he asks the question to our Mother, "You are whose wife?" If there is no God, you and I cannot meet together -- he will say that. If there is no will of God, Mother and he have nothing to do with it. Spontaneously, we have nothing to do with it -- if there is no God. So all the time he is thinking, "If it has nothing to do with God's will, I have nothing to do with our Mother." If anything is against God's will, he cannot do it. If his wife is against God's will, no more wife -- she will spontaneously become Satan, the enemy. This is a Principled life. So you have to do it. Because of God's existence, you have a relationship with Master. If there is no God, you are just Americans and he is just a Korean -- nothing more, no connection between you. Because God exists, that is why we are thankful for Him. Even with persecution, we are grateful to Him; if you are happy, it is because of Him that you are happy. Because of Him, we receive persecution; if there is no God, there is no reason to be persecuted. It is a wonderful fact that we are receiving persecution, because we love Him, and He loves us.

When you study the Divine Principle, all of man's history comes to the surface. We can very easily see the reasons and causes, all the processes. Now, this message... Master just used some technique to put it together. Because of Master this kind of dispensational Principle exists? Because God exists, the history of the dispensation since the fall has existed. Master found it, but it is because of God that it exists. So, through the Principle, you have to find God, the God who made this history, who left us this history. So you should know the God who made the religions, you and Him -- this God, we have to find -- the One who gave you the responsibility to save this nation. You have to find out the relationship between you and your nation. So you have to find that God. If there is no God, all of this connection, all of this nation of America will vanish -- you do not exist -- no connection. So we have to find this kind of God, even give this to others, in order to unite heaven and earth.

So we have to talk about God, between individuals, between your contacts. We are talking about when you eat, you have to think God is eating with you, right there. When you are working, you should think that God is working with you -- this kind of a conscience. So, if there is no God, nothing makes sense; if there is no God, we don't need to love our Master -- no need. Even if you wanted to love him without God, without that -- he wouldn't allow you to. So, even if our Master goes to the spirit world, because we have a connection here, God still exists here; the relationship remains. In your daily living, you have to bring God into your life. By doing that, by trying, we are connected with God, centering on His will -- all other things are false. So, whether you like it or not, since you met our Master, the True Parents, whether willingly or unwillingly, you have to go with him, because this connection came from God. So, there is no other choice; even if you go along unwillingly, there is no other choice. Then, from Master's point of view, he wants to push you to go faster to God -- or shall he let you go slowly to God? [FAST!] You know very well. So he is willing to spank you, push you, drive you, or whatever.

We are in a very, very urgent time. So you have to think, "I have to see many, many people before the time runs out." That kind of urgent state of mind, winning souls, spreading this message, looking for the people; that heart we have to maintain.

So, in his own mind, unconsciously, he feels a sense of imminence -- feels we must hurry -- that means the time is very near. Because the Israelites did not fulfill the 40-day period, it became 400 years -- then was extended to 4,000 years. So the time element... but if he does not fit the dispensational timetable -- extension, postponement -- same thing we see in the Part II message. Have you experienced something like thinking so seriously of God's will, trying so hard, that you have a fever over 101 -- even this is inside your mouth, and all this becomes irritated and -- what do you call it, when you are tired, fever blister? Have you experienced this because of the Will, the urgency of the Will? You have to experience this kind of thing. Master had all this experience, because of God; he did experience it. If there were no God, our Master would be the craziest and the funniest man in the world -- if there were no God. He is doing the most peculiar things. So, if there is no God, he is a mental case. But because He exists, he is the happiest man, he is the person heaven recognized and incorporates.

Day and night, the spirit world teaches spiritual or psychic persons, spiritual sensitives, telling them, "You have to humble yourselves to Master." Keep telling them, spirit world. Perry Cordill is taller than our Master; physically, he [Master] is very much smaller than him [Perry]. Why does all of the spirit world give revelations about him [Master] and not him [Perry]? He has some motivations -- the source is different, to heaven than him -- that is right, he has a difference there. Heaven would be very glad, even if the whole world jointly pronounced that Master Moon is crazy. So, sometimes, from a worldly perspective, you may say, "You are crazy, you are the nut of nuts, and you do only peculiar things when you come to the United States." Even though you are labeled by the world as crazy, as mentally ill, Master loves you; the relationship between him and you is the same as the relationship between God and him. If you have no Master, no True Parents, you are nothing -- you are just garbage to God -- nothing. You would want to go somewhere and tell everything that you have; but you would have no place to go, nowhere to explain your situation, if there were no God.

So, we have to pass through this quickly -- instead of a slow tempo -- we have to be quick. He is tired of all this heavenly work -- he wants to finish all this. So we want to go fast. His job is a very tough one. He doesn't want to do it, but he has no other choice. It is boring for him all the time, but he has to do it. So he has paved the way for a leap forward method, and he will take it. You may not know this situation. Even in the worldly sense, failure is a cumbersome thing. Even if the family is totally destroyed -- in order to restore that destroyed family, or even one individual, how long will it take? All your life? In many cases, you could not resolve this in an entire lifetime -- he is going to restore or recover all of 6,000 years of human history, up until now! That is not easy. So, in his own lifetime, he has to correct all this, restore all these conditions. That is not easy. Do you think that is the easiest job for him? It is terribly difficult. He is standing on serious ground, serious conditions.

He has been angry and very upset -- because time is urgent. He is very, very nervous. Sometimes, there is not even time to talk. Heavenly time is so, so precious. So, without saying anything, without complaining, just follow blindly. That is the best way, until we have the victory. If you do that, you will make it; otherwise.... Three or four years from now, the relationship between some of you and our Master, the True Parents, will be a very distant one. Some of you may no longer follow him -- but he will continue to advance. Up till now, he has been that way; so he believes he will be the same way. He will see many, many people in the middle of the road, before reaching the destination; many people will be debating, he sees that. He knows this because he has experienced such a thing before. He will see the same thing in this country too. Because he sees this coming, he wants to lead you people so fast -- quick, fast exodus. By doing so, there will be fewer casualties, and you will reach the destination much faster. And because he is in America right now, if American Christians oppose him, that will be the end of it. Before they even begin to start the persecution against our movement, we must go faster. This will be the best way, even to show our concern for them and our love for them. Don't you like that idea? [YES!]

Many, many times he fainted because he was overworked. So he will expect the same thing of you. Sometimes he would sit on the ice, praying, fasting and shivering. So, some kind of additional muscles had to form -- and he developed a hard muscle because of this. So, the Unification Principle which you believe did not come with a small price. He existed at a great, great price. His view of value is different; your view of your position is different from his. So, you have to learn day and night. So, even ten years from now, he will speak new words which you won't even know. So, even David Kim, who has been following for 20 years, doesn't know anything about it -- he is still learning. This road of Principle... without any mumbling, just blind faith, blind submission, following blindly... it may be bothering your heart, but that is the only way.

Sometimes when you reach a crisis point, your blind faith... you are ignorant of something better... some things bring a good result. If you are crossing a one-board plywood bridge, over a canyon -- if you see that, still you cannot do it; you don't know anything about it. With blind faith, you believe that you may make it; but if you know everything, you cannot make it -- you are too scared. It's the same thing on this road of Principle. If you follow blindly, your Leader and you may pass through this with a miracle. The same thing applies to this world -- how we are going to pass through it quickly. That is what he is talking about. So, this one second of heavenly time, he is looking for that -- when is it coming? It may come when you are asleep. We don't know where this will take place. Maybe even when we have fireworks at the July 4th Celebration, maybe that is the time he will figure it out centering on God's will -- dispensation timetable.

Somebody is thinking, "It is 12:30; why not go to bed, why this continuous talking?" This time of talking may be the end of your life -- who knows? You may even die while you are dozing. And if that happens to you, you cannot go to heaven. Then Satan will grab you (just like he [Master] did to me [David Kim] -- too much now) and take you away. So he [Master] is a very dreadful man; he is a judge. Because you have come here to have a relationship with him, connection with him, Satan will come to grab you. If you have made a mistake or committed a sin, Satan is following you -- because of the Principle. This is a dreadful place. This very moment, this very second, may be the time when you can grasp something for your eternal, complete salvation -- or your successful key may be lost -- who knows? For 6,000 years, God has been looking for that time, that very moment -- this may be the moment everyone has been looking for -- who knows? So, at any time, even in the middle of the night, you might suddenly awake -- sober, fresh and alert -- no fatigue, ready to fight. If he were not ready, whenever Father wanted him, he would not be a loyal son to Him. Do you believe that? [YES!] [Leader, in English: "Are you like me or not?"] [YES!]

He is very serious. So, in this kind of situation, his whole body becomes explosive. If he had known English much better, he would have influenced millions of people. He is even thinking that. So he has a very sorrowful heart sometimes. The real heart of God he is carrying out. This is the person who is our Master, our True Parent. But you are not as serious as he is. He does not want you to resemble him physically -- he wants you to resemble his heart. Sometimes, you may cry. When you feel this kind of heart, have you experienced that kind of thing? You have got to have this depth of experience in relation to God's heart. You should experience this kind of crying for God, crying for the whole, at least three times a week. People are continually dying; out of a total population of 3.6 billion -- even if the death rate is but 1% out of 3.6 billion population, how many people are dying right now? There are 36 million people dying right now. Then we can calculate how many people are dying away. Every day, 10,000 people are dying away, dying without knowing the Principle at this time -- they are destined to go automatically to hell. Then heaven must be very solemn. So in order to save these people, heaven will naturally make you work hard -- drive you crazy, to save these dying people. Thirty-six million people are dying every year.

When you think of this kind of God, who thinks of things, looks at things in this way -- and you are the sons of God, children of God -- how can you sit still? You may understand or know this because he says so, but you have to actually feel this within your spirit and mind. You have to really, really feel it -- not just talk about it, or say you know it. You have to feel it when you speak out. So, even if you are good, if he has to sacrifice the entire Unification Church throughout the world, sacrifice the members, let them die for the indemnity, in order to save all mankind -- he will do it! Then it will become good, even though he had to kill all of you -- this world will become good. So, do you find any significance there? With this kind of situation, now, this is the time; so you leaders, core nucleus leaders, if, instead of going out to the field and showing yourself as a mobile unit member you are sitting back and driving other people out, it doesn't fit. So you cannot continue to eat and sleep well, eating all this... using the money earned by brothers and sisters going door-to-door -- rejection after rejection, persecution after persecution or frustration, and then bringing in the money -- while you're sitting there daily, doing nothing -- you are a hypocrite! You are betraying them. So that money on which you are living is no good -- you have to stand in front. That money should be used for the people for the members, for this work.

He [Master] is a very stingy person in money matters; he never uses money for himself. Most of his clothes somebody bought him for Father's Day or some other special day. Until he was 30 years of age, he never bought new clothes. All the time, he had used clothes. During his college days, so as not to attract the opposite sex, he disguised himself as quite an ugly man. You could often find him on the street, walking with his face down, because lots of temptations came his way. Some girls even wrote in blood, showing the pledge -- they wanted eternal love. This kind of thing happened. Sometimes when he was by himself, in his college days, girls would come to him; you know, even that kind of temptation was there. He rejected it. He has trained himself. Even if there are 100 beautiful girls -- even naked -- he would not be tempted, he would not be caught, because of that oneness [with God). Even when he was in his twenties, he was already trained that way. Because he is thinking only of God's will. You should know that our Master is not the person you think; he is not a commonsense Master. So when he sees the leaders using their positions to subordinate, instead of doing the front-line work, he is very upset. When the other members perspire, sweat, you have to do the same thing. When they cry, you have to cry together. When they are full of tears of sorrow, you have to be the same way. If one of your members does not sleep, you have to stay up with him -- this is his life. So, if you do not do that every night before you go to bed, you have to repent, whatever you were unable to do. You have to feel guilty, repent of it; otherwise, you are in trouble.

This is the tradition; you must support this tradition on which the Unification Church was founded, everybody. So he wants you to expect him to drive you hard, make you work hard, drive you just like a slave driver -- if you love America more than Master, because he loves God. That means you have to work harder than him, because he is working... so even if he makes you go through extreme suffering, persecution and hardship, his conscience does not bother him. He sees the love for you. Even if you seem to be perishing, his conscience will not bother him, because you will [really] be flourishing. So he doesn't feel guilty. You are all nucleus leaders in our movement -- so please stand in the front-lines. Become the models; stand, and you will be good leaders.

In Korea, there are lots of factories under his supervision right now. Whenever his mind or heart goes to a certain factory, that factory will automatically flourish. If he does not go to it all the time, many problems will arise in that factory -- no enterprise, trouble after trouble after trouble. So you have to make yourselves attract our Master's heart -- so that he will be among you. You must be really loving spiritually; you have to attract him and then he will come to you.

In Korea, in the countryside, there are three trinity ladies who are constantly praying hard at a place called Yamak village. They constantly pray that Master will come to that place. While he was traveling in a certain direction because of the spiritual power in their heart, his car automatically turned in that direction, toward the three trinity prayer ladies who were longing for him. And they received from heaven -- tomorrow, what time our Master's party would be coming -- they received this like a spiritual telephone. They knew this lady, Mrs. Kim; and when he arrived, everybody already knew the message from spirit world (spiritual electronic system), and they were waiting at the front door -- even though we had never said anything. When they do this kind of thing, how in the world can our Master skip that place? Automatically, he had to go there. So he went; even though there are multitudes who long for him less, he will automatically reach that person who longs for him (most]. Because of this, every day -- even four hours of driving -- because of this love and attraction he had to go every day. Where is there such a group of people in America? Then, even without revival, centering on this person in that village....

Have you ever thought about this; longing for him so much in your room, in your house -- your wish is for him to stay there. For such a thing, would you really, really long for this? If you concentrate your heart and love there, even if you could not go beyond ten miles without leg trouble -- that kind of loving heart -- if you prepare for him to come, you will be saved by attending him. By attending him, you will attain salvation without getting through the Divine Principle. So when you believe it, even though he is not there physically, he will be there spiritually; you can see it through a vision. If we long for this, it will happen. So, just like we suddenly see our ancestors coming, Master came here -- he ate and everything -- this is just like a book of revelation in the psychic realm. He talked and everything, and after eating, she sent Master's party off. When they opened the door, there was no car... this entire thing was a vision! This kind of thing happens, if you are eager, if you long for him with this formula. So this thing actually happened; it happens right now. Who is the highest in spiritual power? That is the man right there. When one begins to long for our True Parents, our Master, Master suddenly comes, embracing that person as if he were a sleeping baby -- spiritually, not with his full body. This is possible now.

Thus, no one can hurt or bother or destroy the Unification Church -- because of this. Those who know this kind of thing know; other people just don't understand. So when you American family members have driven up to so high a level, spiritual phenomena -- just like physical phenomena -- will occur. Where is it? In Korea, high spiritual sensitives are talking right now. They feel it, they hear it immediately, between Mr. Moon and here. They are seeing it; they are seeing what he is doing right now. This is why, in the early days, lots of persecution came. No one understood it. One of the young families experienced this kind of thing. He disciplined many, many people. He has to discipline and spank the people, because Satan is behind him, and is ready to invade. So he has to gather them -- sometimes to kick the person out - - to prevent the invasion and send Satan away. So if Master invades that person, then Master will kick the bed; to get Satan out. What would he do? [KICK THE BODY!] That is the way it works.

The reason why he talked so long tonight is that, as leaders of this movement, you are standing in a dreadful, serious position. If you are in a leaders' position, it means that you are already in a dangerous position. Anytime you are wrong, against the Principle, if you violate the law and commit a sin, you are dead bodies; there are coffins ready to swallow you. This is dangerous. You are in a position such that, anytime you go wrong, you will be put in a coffin. The leaders' position is the most serious position in influencing or destroying God's dispensation; therefore, you are standing in a serious position. So that is why you have got to be serious. If you make a mistake, you get the feeling that you are going to the scaffold, in the judgment seat. And when you are successful, you get the feeling of going to a marriage ceremony, going to the Master. This is your situation. Exactly where you are -- good or bad, success or mistakes -- within you, this is your position, you have it now. On a small scale, you are this way. On the large, world wide scale, Master is in the same position. The scale is different; the basic principles are the same. Would you like to carry out your responsibility in the frontline or not? [YES!] If you do it this way, we don't have to wait until 1974 -- you will accomplish it before that. He has the confidence to overcome that period, that dispensational time table. If we don't overcome it -- extension -- but he thinks we can do it, we are able to do that. If we don't do that, he will be a heavenly cheater. He can't be a thief, he cannot be a betrayer. Do you understand him? [YES!] If you move, it is possible; if you don't move, you will get into trouble. If, as a responsible leader, our Master says something -- you must go and enforce it. He has now announced it; God listened -- even Satan listened to it -- but he has to enforce it. That is why he publicly announces it. He has the confidence to achieve it, confidence in you. In case of failure he did everything on his part -- he will not be responsible. The punishment will not come to him; it will come to all you people. Understand what he said? [YES.]

His thoughts constantly go further than next year -- to 1977, 1978 -- that peak, that time he is working for. You are truly an obstacle to him; you are all the time having ups and downs -- little old junk -- all the time you are doing, going this way and that. The only reason you can maintain is that he is still alive, still active -- so that you are receiving benefits. Even so, with the ups and downs, you are barely making it. This is the Principled way of interpretation. Don't you think we have made a little progress, according to this report, because of his being here in America? [YES!] You are crippled now, tired, dragging all day, injured leg, whatever; you are stumbling, but you are making a little bit of progress. You need more effort and more preparation. You will get it. Now you are staggering, so he is planning the rail on which you will be going; if this rail is set up, you don't have to worry about yourself. You will be the heavenly train; he will be the locomotive engineer. God will be the advisor, he will be the locomotive engineer, and you will be the locomotive and passengers both. We will analyze it, we will chop them down, and cook them in the land of America. Can you do that? [YES!] Instead of shaking different ways, you have to be steady and drive forward. Can you drive forward? [YES!]

So he is driving you very hard to let you in the heavenly train. So you cannot be negligent -- that moment, 12:00 or 4:00 in the morning -- who knows? He is looking for that one second, that one moment, when we can put it on the rail and automatically dash forward. Do you understand his situation, his reasoning? [YES!] So you must understand the situation, even while you are sleeping; this is more serious than you think.

The Starting Point of Good and Evil

It is difficult for us to define exactly what is good and what is evil. Through human history, a thing was called good if it was in conformity with the philosophy of the age, or else it was thought to be evil. For example, if someone breaks a promise or fails to carry it out, the other would call it bad or evil. The individual would call something good when he gains something and bad if he loses something. When we ask ourselves if it is really good when something causes us profit or bad when it causes us minus, then we are not sure because the standard of profit or loss varies according to the individual. When we compare the conditions in the Communist world with the conditions in the democratic world, religion is not admitted in the Communist world whereas it is admitted in the democratic world. We can safely say that the standard of good and evil in the Communist world is different from that in the democratic world.

Roughly divided there are two main ideological blocs in the world: the Communist world and the democratic world. But even in the democratic world, the standard of good and evil can vary according to the nations and to the view of life of the people. Then, what is the origin of good and evil? It is fundamental to clarify at what point good and evil started.

The starting point of your life is your parents; the starting point of your parents is your grandparents, and so on. When we trace back human history, the starting point for humanity is our first human ancestors - Adam and Eve. The starting point of Adam and Eve had to be God, and therefore God's standard of good and evil should be the absolute standard. Therefore, the standard of good and evil after the human fall could not be a fundamental one -- even if we do find a better standard of good and evil in the democratic world, where people believe in God. You are not the starting point of good and evil; and neither am I. Then, what is the starting point of good and evil, and where is it?

The standard must be defined by God.

The starting point of good and evil was Adam and Eve, the first human ancestors. Again, it has something to do with God. Originally, the relationship between God and man is that between Creator and created, Master and servant, Father and son and, in general, between subject and object. In no way is man the subject being in his relationship with God. Man is the result of God's creation. Right from the beginning man was not born out of his own accord. We were born from the motivation of another existence, which was God. Therefore, it is clear enough that we are not the subject, but are in the position of object to God.

We were not born because we wanted to be born. Then, what could motivate our desire? We cannot think of ourselves separately from God as the subject. We are nothing without Him. Only when we look for Him and find Him can we find the motivation of our life. We are destined to find God before finding the true meaning in life. We know that we have our own desires but we must know that these are secondary desires. The original desire can be found only when we find the ultimate subject, God, and become one with Him in love and in goodness. In other words, the standard of goodness cannot be defined by ourselves, by man. The standard of goodness must be defined by the ultimate subject Being who is absolute and perfect -- whether we name Him God or something else.

What would God have us do as goodness? Would He not want us to attain the purpose and value of our lives by becoming one with Him and doing good things? Then, goodness will start from that point. If man is in the object position to God as the subject, God is compelled to show us the way of goodness. As I said before, the relationship between God and man is that between subject and object.

The subject and object must finally become one through the action of give and take. Love alone can keep the perfection of give and take making any two into one. Centered on love, what kind of relationship would bring the two into the closest and strongest oneness? It must be the kind of love which we first experience in our life as a child to our parents, which will last forever. That is the love between father and child. The very beginning of our lives started with the love relationship between our parents and ourselves. Only when there is perfect love between a husband and wife can they give birth to perfect children. The love between parents and children will last through eternity, while conjugal love can be broken.

Parents are the example

The love relationship between parents and children is the strongest. Even without trying, in their loving and serving their children, parents are the example for us •to learn how to love and serve others. The first thing in our life we learn from our parents is how to love and serve others. We cannot deny that our parents, in the position of God, have shown us the example of God, by loving and serving His children. If man had learned from God in the beginning how to love and serve others and put it into practice, a world of love and harmony would have come about. Loving and serving others is the example and tradition set before us by God. If Adam and Eve, following His example, had loved and served each other, and if they, in oneness, had served and loved God, the world of goodness and unity would have come about.

If you serve others without love, true unity cannot come about. If you calculate profit from others and for that purpose serve and exalt them, the person cannot become one with you: only love can make true unity. If you serve others at the sacrifice of yourself, centered on love, the love can be returned manifold; however hard you may serve others, if it is not centered on love it will cause nothing and you will have worked in vain. If you really love someone, you can leave everything in his hands with assurance. It is because in love, there is no "mine" or "yours," but everything belongs to both. Only love makes it possible. In this case, loving and serving that person will not cause any loss to you. If you leave things to someone you love they are still yours and what is his is also yours -- thus in love, you have twice the benefit. As you love and serve the person, you can come to completely occupy his heart, thus coming into perfect unity and harmony with him. So no power whatever can separate those who truly love each other. If you serve people with love, what you have given will be returned to you, with all he has added to it.

The standard of love

In the beginning, God would have wanted all humankind to become one with each other in love. The expression of love should have been service and sacrifice for others. God, Himself, did the same for mankind. If Adam and Eve, after the example and tradition of God's love, had loved each other and if they in oneness had loved and served God, their descendants would have done the same and the ideal world would have come about. Only in this way could God have built the ideal world through man. In love, you want to completely occupy your mate and you want to be completely occupied by him. Isn't that true? You want to be· completely occupied by your mate, until there will be no "you."

In that situation there can be no "you" and no "he," but in oneness both of you are elevated to a higher dimension of yourselves. In that kind of love there can be no complaint, no negative power can work there; even though you may be smashed and trodden upon, your love cannot be broken. If your parents loved and served you by bestowing Godly love in their hearts, you then could have done the same following their example, while your children in tum would do the same for their descendants. This is how the kingdom of Godly love could have come about. The children who had received this kind of love from their parents would learn to love their parents in return. This is the first love the children learn and the first love they practice.

As I see it, in this country of America the parents do not quite have such love. If parents loved their children transcending individual interests, then their children, too, could have learned and practiced love towards them. Then the bond of love between parents and children could be so strong that the parents would never divorce each other and leave their children in misery and unhappiness. No child would want his parents to love him with self-centered love or half-heartedly, with their interest in something else. The same applies to brothers' love towards each other. Even in the relationship between the government and people of a nation, if they do not love and serve each other their relationship will be broken.

Goodness is to love and serve others

Now we have come to the truth that the starting point of goodness is to love and serve others. This is the standard of goodness which started at the beginning of human history and which has lasted through the process of history and will endure through eternity. The same thing applies in the relationship between God and man, parents and children, husband and wife, brothers and sisters -- and between families, between tribes, between nations, thus making the whole world into one under God in love and goodness. We call this present world a world of evil because this world is not what it should be according to the standard of goodness we have set.

You are Western people, but suppose an Oriental man loves you more than any Westerner, including your brothers and friends, loves you. Would you not love this Oriental man more than you would love your own brothers? It is man's original tendency to respect and exalt persons who love and serve others. We cannot deny this fact. If goodness is to serve others centered on Godly love, then what must be evil? Evil is the contrary. What must it be to love and serve others for the sake of oneself? Is that good or not? Even though people seemingly love and serve others, if they love and do things centered on themselves it is evil.

So, we can see that good and evil start at the same point but head in different directions. Service to others is seemingly good, but unless the service is centered on Godly love we cannot call it good. We cannot deny that good and evil are headed in different directions according to the quality of love they are centered upon. Even in witnessing to people, if you evangelize in order to go to heaven, is this good or bad? You must rearrange your way of thinking and put things in order. You may say to yourself, "In this movement I must bring at least three or more members in three years' time in order to be blessed, so I must work desperately hard." Is that good or bad? If you think of the urgency of God's providence of restoration and are desperate to witness to people from that viewpoint, then it is good. It is good because you are doing that not for your sake, but for the sake of God.

Evil is self-centeredness

Every religion teaches us to pursue and practice goodness and to love and serve people. But we must have a clear picture of how good and evil start at the same original point, going in entirely different directions according to the quality of love that things are centered on. We know that Adam and Eve fell somewhere in the beginning. This means that evil came into existence ac a certain point where it could have been good. For a man who was born not out of his own will, to have wanted to do his own will was the beginning of the fall. In order for him to be good, he was supposed to do the things his subject, God, would cake delight in. But Adam and Eve wanted to do what they pleased and thus caused evil to come about. Evil having been brought about from this point, if anything starts at this point, we can define it as evil.

I am your leader but if I always want you to do things for my sake, then you will fall away one after another as time goes by. If I keep doing this, there will be none left here. If I do things for a selfish and self-centered purpose, the outcome is only too clear. I could pretend to be good for a while, but sooner or later your spirit would come to know that I am not, and though you pretended to obey me you would inwardly complain. Finally everything would rupture. Nothing like perfect unity would be possible. The more we struggle to be united into one, the quicker the rupture will come about. This is what has happened all though human history, everything being judged by the people as to whether it is good or evil.

In this light, we can judge that persons like Jesus led a wonderful and good life according to the ultimate standard. From his childhood he did not think he was born for only his own family, his tribe, or his nation. He knew he was born to save the whole world; thus he called himself the son of God. He had the definite idea that God was his Father and he, His son. He thought, "I am born for You, I live for You and I am going to die for You." Therefore he was confident that God's love would abide in him forever. We know that was a great discovery. With this confidence he left a great example of divine love -- even asking forgiveness of his enemies who put him on the cross. With this great love he influenced and moved the hearts of the Roman people who had once oppressed and persecuted him; and from then on, the Roman Empire came into the sphere of Christian culture, playing an important role.

A world of goodness

If the people of the United States and the people of the whole world really know this theory of divine love, the whole world will come to be a world of goodness with every possible scientific achievement used for the good of the world, and him alone. His name will remain with the history of that nation. Would you, too, want to become a famous and important person on the national level? Then, try to serve others centered on true love. Even if you were a candidate for president, would the people elect you if you were serving others for self-centered purposes?

Where goodness dominates

The kingdom of God is the ideal world where goodness alone dominates. That is to say, it is where people exalt and respect those who serve others. At the time of the human fall, the archangel dominated Eve and Eve dominated Adam, while the order should have been the contrary. Each wanted to utilize the other centered on their own interests; this was the beginning of evil. Thus, in the fallen world, fighting between individuals and wars between nations have continued. Wars have continued because the defeated nations or people always wanted to restore what they lost.

Have you ever stopped to think in what way we must do things in the Unification Church? Members of the Unification Church believe that the world cannot be saved except by our group. We know clearly that our church will develop and expand to cover the whole world with love and goodness. Our motto, as you know, is "With the heart of the parents, in the shoes of the servant, let us shed tears for mankind, sweat for earth and blood for heaven."

Are those simple words? Have you ever tried hard to put that into practice? Would there be any "I" there which is ego? No ego is possible there. It means we have to be the incarnation of parental love towards mankind. If we practice parental love towards mankind, serving them as a servant would, then we should never regret shedding tears, sweat and blood for the sake of mankind, giving out our whole being. If we do this, we will not have done this in vain, because we will have many people appreciating it and following the example. In studying, or in witnessing to the people if we do that with the concept that we are going to be famous or appreciated by' people, then it is already bad.

In speaking of success would you want to be successful now or later? I would rather reserve success to the end, because if you succeed now, it will be a small success, while later it would grow to be a success of greater dimension. More than that, if you succeed now you are apt to be arrogant, and being contented, you will never struggle on. Then your success will end as success centered on yourself. Should your success be self-centered, or centered on others?

In the history of mankind we have seen without exception that just as a nation enjoyed its prime, it would begin to fall or decline. America cannot be an exception. The United States is proud of being the leading nation of the world, but it cannot go on for eternity. You must know that your nation is blessed by God not for the sake of yourselves but for the sake of the world. If there is any way at all for your people to keep your blessing, it is for you to think that the success of your nation is not for yourselves but for the benefit of the world. You must not only think that way but you must act that way and do things for the benefit of other nations. Then your success will not remain where it is' but will be multiplied until it will cover the whole world to save mankind.

Training for Tomorrow

You must think that today's success is training and preparation for tomorrow's bigger success. For most people success is for self-benefit and so they cling to it, never sharing with others. They are apt to enjoy their success -- never working harder. This is a totally wrong idea, because they could not have had success without the aid of others; so it does not belong to them alone but to others too. If you feel like being proud of yourself, you must first be proud of God and mankind who made your success possible. Then your success can be justified. When you are successful you must turn to God and say, "Oh Father, but for Your help, I could not have been successful." And turning to mankind you must say, "I couldn't have done it by myself."

So your success belongs to God and to mankind. Then both God and people around you will be pleased and will have you enjoy it. They will think you are a wonderful person entitled to success. If you have this attitude, succeeding will not end there, but you will have still greater success in the coming days. But if you are boastful then success will end there. When you think of yourselves, have you lived your lives with that attitude? If not, you must realize that you are not entitled to whatever you have attained. So, bear in mind that your success must always be returned to God and to mankind, always serving others with God-centered love without any complaint or regret, to the end. Then you are going to be qualified for victory.

You must always put yourself in the position of object to God as the Subject and to other people as another subject and be ready to love and serve them. Then they, in turn, will love you and would be willing to let you enjoy successes and victories. Jesus, though he died on the cross for mankind, looked like a failure at that time, but history has proven that he was a success because his ideal and deeds remained alive in human hearts -- thus causing Christianity to develop as it has. Therefore, if you sacrifice yourself for the sake of others, you are already successful even though it may seem that you are a failure. There is room for you to rise again for bigger success. If you may have to fail once, twice or even a hundred times, there is still room for you to succeed if and when you do things for God and for others. Such a person will be helped by heaven and earth until he attains victory. But chose who struggle and do things for the sake of themselves, their accomplishment will be ephemeral and· limited.

Be sure you are acting for God's will

Which kind of success would you choose? You know too well. We must re-evaluate ourselves according to this standard. I know that among the Unification Church members there are some who would say, "I have been in the church so long, and what has become of me? If I am going to die like this, what will be left behind me? Don't I look more miserable than when I was in the world 10 years ago?" Is this a good way of chinking or a bad way of thinking? Don't ever think that way. However hard a situation you are in and however miserable you may look, and even though you may be on the verge of death, your sacrifice will be justified by God and you must be sure you are doing this for God's will and for the sake of mankind. When you are on the edge of defeat, without your realizing it, reinforcements are being sent by God to rescue you. On the spiritual level myriads of saints will come to save you, while even on the physical level people's minds are on your side supporting you even without their being conscious of it.

In movies you have seen many such instances. Suppose there is a patriot who is captive in an enemy camp. After severe torture, he is at last about to be shot to death. Without 'his knowing it, reinforcements are coming to his rescue. His last chance to be saved was when he was asked to help the enemy against his own nation to save his own life. If he had been so cowardly as to say yes, when the reinforcements came to save him, he would have been put to shame. But if he should say, "I have lived for my country and I want to die for my country," then the reinforcements will praise him and the whole nation will exalt him and leave his name in the nation's history.

In a way you are fighting in this kind of battle for the will of God. Billions of spirit men are mobilized on our side. Have you ever thought of that? How wonderful it is to know that because of one individual like you, the whole spirit world is mobilized. Suppose that there is just one more peak to cross over, and then there will be a highway paved where you can reach out and gain the support of all mankind. Then if you are frustrated on the way, at the threshold of victory, how pitiful it will be in the end.

You are not alone

So, you must know that you are not fighting alone, but with companions on the spiritual level as well as on the physical level Therefore, even though the battle should look unfavorable, the next moment it can turn out to be a victory. If you fight on with readiness to sacrifice yourself, so much help will come from above and around you. How wonderful our battle is! Those who begin things with good motivations must never vacillate but carry it through to the end. How much more would it be so when the matter is centered on God's will! The beginning and end, alpha and omega, must meet. God will find the world through us and the world will find God through us. God and the world will meet through us. On the vertical level, God will connect with us, and on the horizontal level individuals will connect families, tribes, nations and finally the whole world.

Satan tends to take the offensive while heaven is on the defensive. The time for victory for the heavenly side comes at the end of the battle. It is too early and even dangerous for us to be boastful; and it is safe for us always to be humble and steadfast. At the end we can be proud of our victory, and it will be yours for eternity. It is characteristic of the satanic world that people are always proud of themselves and boastful of what they have done. They always initiate battles, but in the end, the victory will be for the heavenly side, where people have always been attacked. In humbleness and with strenuous effort, we will finally defeat the enemy who is over-confident. On the Godly side, people defeat the satanic side while serving others centered on divine love. If you are ready to give your lives for the great cause, you can win the minds of the people which is real victory on the side of righteousness. This is the standard of goodness. If we go on like this, any opposition or persecution is nothing. We can be sure that before long, everyone will come to our side.

My words will prove to be true. Otherwise there is no God. As long as there is God, our will united with God's can be realized. God's will is not for America alone or for any one nation. We know it is for the whole world and for the entire mankind. That's why we are here, transcending racial, national, and religious boundaries. We are here for training in preparation for the coming battle, to advance forward to the end of the world.

First love brothers and sisters

We must long for and love the kingdom of God more than we do our respective nations. In the love of the kingdom of God and its people we must serve the people at the sacrifice of ourselves. This alone can bring us victory to erect the kingdom of God on earth. We must restore the relationship of love between God and man. In order to be loved by God, we must first love our brothers and having united with them, come back to God's bosom and be loved by Him. That is to say, by our winning our Cains and returning them to God, He will be made happy by us and can really enjoy a rest after a long struggle.

This is the way we should live to be filial sons of God. We must know that this is the true way of life. If we are thus in the strong love relationship with God, no other power whatsoever can sever our relationship. By our doing this alone, we can build the kingdom of God on earth where peace, happiness and the ideal can prevail. There is no other way possible for us to build the kingdom. In the kingdom we are going to be the first citizens under God, our Lord and everlasting Father. Thus, good and evil starting at the same point will end in the victory of righteousness. Everything dark and negative will be eliminated, goodness alone dominating. The world of God's original intention will start right there.

God has never once been frustrated or exhausted in the long, long battle against Satan. He can fight the battle only through us. So we as His children must resemble Him by following His example, never getting frustrated or exhausted, fighting through to the end until we win the final victory. Now we are going to march forward to the battlefield of the whole world with the United States as our base.

The Starting Point of Good and Evil

It is difficult for us to define exactly what is good and what is evil. As we have seen through human history, a thing was called good if it was in conformity with the idea or the philosophy of the age, or else it was thought to be evil.

More specifically, for example, if and when one who has made a promise breaks a promise or fails to carry it out, the other would call it bad or evil. The individual would call something good when he gains something and causes himself plus, or bad if he loses something causing himself minus.

When we ask ourselves if it is really good when something causes us profit or bad when it causes.us minus, then we are not sure because the standard of profit or loss varies according to the individual. When we compare the conditions in the Communist world with the conditions in the democratic world, religion is not admitted in the Communist world whereas it is admitted in the democratic world. We can safely say that the standard of good and evil in the Communist world is different from that in the democratic world. Roughly divided, there are two main ideological blocs in the world; the Communist world and democratic world. But even in the democratic world the standard of good and evil can vary according to the nation and to the view of life of the people. Then, what is the origin of good and evil? It is fundamental to clarify at what point good and evil started.

The starting point of your life is your parents; the starting point of your parents are your grandparents, and so on. When we trace back our human history, the starting point for humanity is our first human ancestors -- Adam and Eve. The starting point of Adam and Eve had to be God, and therefore, God's standard of good and evil should be the absolute standard. Therefore, the standard of good and evil after the human fall could not be a fundamental one -- even if we do find a better standard of good and evil in the democratic world, where people believe in God. You are not the starting point of good and evil; and neither am I. Then, what is the starting point of good and evil, and where is it?

The starting point of good and evil was Adam and Eve, the first human ancestors. Again, it has something to do with God. Originally the relationship between God and man is that between the Creator and the created, or the Master and servant, Father and son and, in general, that between subject and object. In no way is man the subject being in his relationship with God. Man is the result of God's creation. Right from the beginning man was not born out of his own accord.

We were born from the motivation of another existence, which was God. Therefore, it is clear enough that we are not the subject, but are in the position of object to God. We were not born because we wanted to be born. Then, what could motivate our desire?

We cannot think of ourselves separately from God as subject. We are nothing without Him. Only when we look for Him and find Him can we find the motivation of our life. We are destined to find God before finding the true meaning of life. We know that we have our own desires but we must know that these are secondary desires. The original desire can be found only when we find the ultimate subject, God, and become one with Him in love and in goodness. In other words, the standard of goodness cannot be defined by ourselves, by man. The standard of goodness must be defined by the ultimate subject Being who is absolute and perfect -- whether we name Him God or something else.

Then, the question is what is it that God would have us do as goodness? Would He not want us to attain the purpose and value of our lives by becoming one with Him and doing good things? Then, goodness will start from that point. If man is in the object position to God as the subject, God is compelled to show us the way of goodness. And He already showed it to Adam and Eve. As I said before, the relationship between God and man is that between subject and object.

The subject and object must finally become one through the action of give and take. Love alone can keep the perfection of give and take making any two into one. Centered on love, what kind of relationship would bring the two into the closest and strongest oneness? It must be the kind of love which we first experience in our life as a child to our parents, which will last forever. That is the love between father and child. As I said before, the very beginning of our lives started with the love relationship between our parents and ourselves. Only when there is perfect love between a husband and wife can they give birth to perfect children. The love between parents and children will last through eternity, while conjugal love can be broken.

Parents should show God's Love

So, again we must say that the love relationship between parents and children is the strongest. Even without trying, in their loving and serving their children, parents are the example for us to learn how to love and serve others.

The first thing in our life we learn from our parents is how to love and serve others. We cannot deny that our parents, in the position of God, have shown us the example of God, loving and serving His children. Then we come to the conclusion that if man learned from God in the beginning how to love and serve others, and put it into practice, a world of love and harmony would have come about. Loving and serving others is the example and tradition set before us by God.

If Adam and Eve, following His example, loved and served each other, and they, in oneness served and loved God, the world of goodness and unity would come about.

If you serve others without love there, true unity cannot come about. If you calculate profit from others and for that purpose, serve others and exalt them, the person cannot become one with you, because only love can make true unity.

If you serve others at the sacrifice of yourself, centered on love, the love can be returned manifold; however hard you may serve others, if it is not centered on love it will cause nothing and you will have worked in vain. If you really love someone, you can leave everything in his hands with assurance. It is because in love there is no "mine" or "yours," but everything belongs to both. Only love makes it possible. In this case, loving and serving that person will not cause any loss to you. If you leave things to someone you love, they are still yours, and what is his is also yours -- thus in love, you have twice the benefit. As you love and serve the person, you can come to completely occupy my heart, thus coming into perfect unity and harmony with him. So no power whatever can separate those who truly love each other. If you serve people with love, what you have given will be returned to you, with all he has added to it.

Kingdom begins with parental love

In the beginning God would have wanted all humankind to become one with each other in love. The expression of love should have been service and sacrifice for others.

God, Himself, did the same for mankind. If Adam and Eve, after the example and tradition of God's love, had loved each other, and, if they in oneness had loved and served God, their descendants would have done the same and the ideal world would have come about.

Only in this way could God have built the ideal world through man. In love you want to completely occupy your mate and you want to be completely occupied by him. Isn't that true? Yes, you want to be completely occupied by your mate, until there will be no "you." In that situation there can be no "you" and no "he," but in oneness, both of you are elevated to a higher dimension of yourselves. In that kind of love there can be no complaint, no negative power can work there; even though you may be smashed and trodden upon, your love cannot be broken. If, on the worldly level, your physical parents loved and served you by restoring Godly love in their hearts, you then could have done the same following their example, while your children in turn would do the same for their descendants. This is how the kingdom of Godly love could have come about. The children who had received this kind of love from their parents would learn to love their parents in return. This is the first love the children learn and the first love they practice.

As I see, in this country of America, the parents are not quite with such love. If the parents should love their children transcending individual interest, then their children, too, could have learned and practiced the love towards them. Then, the bond of love between the parents and children could be so strong that the parents would never divorce each other and leave their children in misery and unhappiness.

No child would want his parents to love him with self-centered love or halfheartedly, with their interests in something else. The same applies to brothers' love towards each other. Even in the relationship between the government and people of a nation, if they do not love and serve each other, their relationship will be broken.

Goodness begins with love and service

Now we have come to the truth that the starting point of goodness is to love and serve others. This is the standard of goodness which started at the beginning of human history, and has lasted through the process of history and will endure through eternity.

The same thing applies in the relationship between God and man, parents and children, husband and wife, brothers and sisters -- and between families, between tribes, between nations, thus making the whole world into one under God in love and goodness. We call this present world a world of evil because this world is not what it should be according to the standard of goodness we have set.

You are Western people, but suppose there is an Oriental man loving you more than any Westerner, including your brothers and friends, would love you. Would you not love this Oriental man more than you would love your brothers? It is man's original tendency to respect and exalt the persons who love and serve others. We cannot deny this fact. If goodness is to serve others centered on Godly love, then what must be evil? Evil is the contrary. What must it be to love and serve others for the sake of oneself? Is that good or not? Even though people seemingly love and serve others, if they love and do things centered on themselves, it is evil.

Serve for the sake of God

So, we can see that good and evil start at the same point but head for different directions. Service to others is seemingly good, but unless the service is centered on Godly love, we cannot call it good. So, we cannot deny that good and evil are headed for different directions according to the quality of love they are centered upon. Even in witnessing to people, if you evangelize in order to go to heaven, then what is this, good or bad? You must rearrange your way of thinking and put things in order. You may say to yourself, "In this movement I must bring in at least three or more members in three years' time in order to be blessed. I must work desperately hard." Is that good or bad? If, in that case, you think of the urgency of God's providence of restoration and are desperate to witness to the people from that viewpoint, then it is good. It is good because you are doing that not for your sake, but for the sake of God.

Evil is acting for personal pleasure

Every religion teaches us to pursue goodness and practice good, teaching how to love and serve people. But we must have the clear picture of how good and evil start at the original point, going to entirely different directions, according to the quality of love that things are centered on. We know that Adam and Eve fell somewhere in the beginning. This means that evil came into existence at a certain point, where it could have been good.

For a man who was born not out of his own will, to have wanted to do his own will was the beginning of the fall. In order for him to be good, he was supposed to do the things his subject, God, would take delight in. But apart from this, they wanted to do what they pleased and thus caused evil to come about. Evil having been brought about from this point, if anything starts at this point, we can define it as evil.

I am here as your leader, but if I always want you to do things for my sake, then you will fall away one after another as time goes by. If I keep doing this, there will be none left here. All will escape from me. If I do things for a selfish and self-centered purpose, the outcome is only too clear. I could pretend to be good for a while, but sooner or later your spirit would come to know that I am not, and though you pretended to obey me you would inwardly complain. Finally everything will meet with rupture. Nothing like perfect unity is possible there. The more we struggle to be united into one, the quicker the rupture will come about. This is what has happened all through human history, everything being judged by the people as to whether it is good or evil.

Jesus came to save the whole World

In this light, we can judge that persons like Jesus led a wonderful and good life, according to the ultimate standard. From his childhood he did not think he was born for only his own family, his tribe, or his nation. He knew he was born to save the whole world; thus he called himself the son • of God. He had the definite idea that God was his Father and he His son. He thought, "I am born for you, I live for you, and I am going to die for you." Therefore, he was confident that God's love would abide in him forever. We know that was a great discovery.

With this confidence he left a great example of divine love even asking forgiveness of his enemies who put him on the cross. With this great love he influenced and moved the hearts of the Roman people who had once opposed and persecuted him; and from then on, the Roman Empire came into the sphere of Christian culture, playing an important role.

If the people of the United States and the people of the whole world really know this theory of divine love, the whole world will come to be a world of goodness with every possible scientific achievement used for the good of the world, and where every man knows he is born for others and for the sake of the whole. That's why every man by nature wants to do things for the public benefit, thus leaving good accomplishments after his death. You want to be thought good by others, but before being proud of yourself, you must be able to be proud of your friends, your group and so on -- larger units of society. Then the people around you will be proud of you. If you are too proud of yourself, others will not like you. Always think that you see things, hear things and experience things not for the sake of yourself, but for the sake of appreciation of the things you perceive.

Do this in order to appreciate things you see and hear. In this way, your viewpoint is entirely different from that of ordinary people. The stories you will want to hear most are those which other people take delight in. Your original mind tends to like things which all others like.

Isn't that true? To do that we must tear down the walls in which we have been confining ourselves. We must take the initiative to tear down the walls to reach out to others instead of waiting for others to reach in to us. Suppose there is a highway newly paved. Everyone would want to drive on that highway instead of the narrow, bumpy road. In this case you don't have to tell them to drive on the highway, they will do that automatically.

Work for the sake of your Nation

Now I am sure you know clearly what the starting point of good and evil really is. We know that if we serve others centered on divine love, it is always good. Everything you do for the sake of yourself is either bad or at least not good in God's sight. If I hold up my hand for a selfish purpose, is it good or bad? At least you are not interested in my feat, isn't that true? But if I hold up my hand for your sake, the same act will arouse your attention and interest.

Suppose there is a marathon runner on the Olympic track.

racing desperately representing the nation; wouldn't the people themselves feel as if they are running the race and cheer him on? In that case the runner is doing a great thing for the sake of his nation. Is it bad or good? Good! When the runner wins the first prize, it really doesn't belong to him alone. His name will remain with the history of that nation. Would you, too, want to become a famous and important person on the national level? Then, try to serve others centered on true love. Even if you were a candidate for president, would the people elect you if you are serving others for self-centered purposes?

Now the Watergate event is the focus of world attention. American people believe that Nixon and his colleagues did that for their own interests, but if the President did that with the belief that he was the only way this nation could be saved from its difficulties and that he therefore had to be re-elected, then he might be justified by God. Who knows?

Then any disrespectful attitude from the people toward the President would not be right. The kingdom of God is the ideal world where goodness al ne dominates. That is to say, it is the world where people serve each other centered on divine love. Again, this is the place where people exalt and respect those who serve others. At the time of the human fall, the archangel dominated Eve and Eve dominated Adam, while the order should have been the contrary.

Each wanted to utilize the other centered on their own interests; this was the beginning of evil. Thus, in the fallen world, fighting between individuals and wars between nations have continued. Wars have continued because the defeated nations or people always wanted to restore what they lost.

The Father's heart and the servant's shoes

Have you ever stopped to think in what way we must do things in the Unification Church? Members of the Unification Church believe that the world cannot be saved except by our group. We know clearly that our church will develop and expand to cover the whole world with love and goodness. Our motto as you know, is, "With the heart of the parents, in the shoes of the servant, let us shed tears for mankind, sweat for the earth and blood for heaven." Are those simple words? Have you ever tried hard to put that into practice?

Would there be any "I" -- there which is ego? No ego is possible there. It means we have to be the incarnation of parental love towards mankind. If we practice parental love toward mankind, serving them as a servant would, then we should never regret shedding tears, sweat and blood for the sake of mankind, giving out our whole being. If we do this, we will not have done this in vain, because we will have many people appreciating it and following the example.

In studying, or in witnessing to the people, if we do that with the concept that we are going to be famous or appreciated by people, then it is already bad.

In speaking of success would you want to be successful now or later? I would rather reserve the success to the end, because if you succeed now, it will be a small success, while later it would grow to be a success of greater dimension. More than that, if you succeed now, you are apt to be arrogant, and being contented, you will never struggle on. Then your success will end as success centered on yourself.

Should your success be self-centered, or centered on others?

The nation should benefit all Mankind

Consider America. In the history of mankind we have seen without exception that just as a nation enjoyed its prime, it would begin to fall or decline. America cannot be an exception.

The United States is proud of being the leading nation of the world, but it cannot go for eternity. You must know that your nation is blessed by God not for the sake of yourselves, but for the sake of the world. If there is any way at all for you people to keep your blessing, it is for you to think that the success of your nation is not for yourselves but for the benefit of the world. You must not only think that way but you must act that way and do things for the benefit of the world. Then your success will not remain where it is but will be multiplied until it will cover the whole world to save mankind.

You must think that today's success is the training and preparation for tomorrow's bigger success. For most people, success is self-benefit, and so they cling to it, never sharing with others. They are apt to enjoy their success -- never working harder. This is a totally wrong idea, because they could not have had success without the aid of others; so it does not belong to them alone but to others too. If you feel like being proud of yourself, you must first be proud of God and mankind who made your success possible. Then your success can be justified. When you are successful you must turn to God and say, "Oh, Father, but for Your help I could not have been successful." And turning to mankind, you must say, "I could not have done it by myself."

So your success belongs to God and to mankind. Then both God and people around you will be pleased and will · have you enjoy it. They will think you are a wonderful person entitled to success. If you have this attitude, succeeding will not end there, but you will have still greater success.

In order to be loved by God, we · must first love our brothers and having united with them, come back to God's bosom and be loved by Him. That is to say, by our winning our Cains and returning them to God, He will be made happy by us and can really enjoy a rest after a long struggle. This is the way we should live to be as filial sons of God. We must know that this is the true way of life.

If we are thus in the strong love relationship with God, no other power whatsoever can sever our relationship. By our doing this alone, we can build the Kingdom of God on earth where peace, happiness and the ideal can prevail. There is no other way possible for us to build the kingdom. In the kingdom we are going to be the first citizens under God, our Lord and everlasting Father. Thus, good and evil starting at the same point will end in the victory of righteousness. Everything dark and negative will be eliminated, goodness alone dominating. Then the world of God's original intention will start right there.

God has never once been frustrated or exhausted in the long, long battle against Satan. He could fight the battle only through us. So we as His children must resemble Him by following his example, never getting frustrated or exhausted, fighting through to the end until we win the final victory.

Now we are going to march forward to the whole battlefield of the world with the United States as our base. I want you to go through this training with a strong sense of mission, and perfectly prepare yourself for the coming battle.

We Need to Prepare to Receive the Messiah

The place you are meant to live in is the Kingdom of Heaven. But are you living there now? No! What is more, the Kingdom of Heaven does not come immediately. Then, what should come before the appearance of the heavenly kingdom? The Messiah should come. But the Messiah alone will not do. Although Jesus came to the Jewish nation, the nation of Israel, the Kingdom of Heaven did not emerge.

Before the appearance of the heavenly kingdom, the heavenly kingdom people must appear. What should be done in order that heavenly kingdom people arise? A people does not come into being all of a sudden. A special clan must appear, and this clan must move that people. What should be done so that the clan appears? There has to be an extended family of close relatives. What should be done so that these close relatives appear? A family must appear as the center of these close relatives. Then, what should be done so that the family appears? There have to be children and parents. Then, what should be done so that children appear? There have to be parents. What should be done so that parents appear? There has to be one man who can represent everything concerning heaven.

Who is this? He is the Messiah. What should that man do? If he is to be a parent, he must find a partner and be one with her. This is the teaching of Christianity. When this happens, it will be the Last Days. Thus, what was upside down has now been spiritually restored over the past two thousand years centering on Jesus, on the foundation of global Christianity. Based on the spiritual aspect of Christianity, when people meet the Messiah, all these things will be completed at that time.

At the Second Coming, the Lord will come and right all things to what they were originally meant to be. In this way, the world must be one and nations must be one: everything must be one. This will happen. Within a country, the Christian denominations must be one, and among denominations the overall leaders must be united. This has to happen. In order for the denominations to be one, their leaders must be one. These leaders must be united among themselves and be one with Jesus. So when they receive Jesus and become one with him, the world will be easily restored. God has been preparing for this for two thousand years. Since this unity did not come about at the proper time, we have had to prepare all over again.

Faith and Reality

The life of faith does not depend on the concrete, visible reality of this physical world, but has to do with the invisible God. We are living in a world of practical reality, so we have to deal with practical issues on this earth. However, the life of faith belongs to another real n, and we cannot apply the same standards or deal with the same issues.

In this world we all seek happiness and joy. We as individual beings can never find Happiness, but we need some other element with which to bring it about -- another person, material things, an intellectual goal. We can apply certain criteria to everything in the world. Unless we are finding other things or people that stimulate us and make us happy, we cannot make progress in life. In other words, we find happiness through something objective which stimulates us. In our academic life, we are happy as we pursue intellectual reality. But happiness comes over a period of time as we strive to reach a high goal or ideal. The problem always is, "How can I establish a relationship between myself and my object that will bring happiness?"

When I talk about the life of faith we experience in this world, there sometimes seems to us to be no evidence or scientific method to validate our faith. We are dealing with invisible and often impractical things to which we cannot apply the same kind of cognition as in the world of reality. The problem therefore is how can we find and relate concretely to a source of positive stimulus in our life of faith? How can we be happy in our life of faith?

Whenever the problem of the physical life of human beings comes up, we meet questions concerning material or substantial things. How can we make a connection between the life of faith and the life of this world through our knowledge? When we think only of the lives of other people, it is difficult to discover this stimulus. But there is no other way to set up a standard for ourselves but by observing and studying all of the central figures in God's providence from Adam on. We have to study closely how these people, God's dispensational figures, including the past saints and sages, lived in their interaction with human beings, and how they related to material things. Let us look at Noah, Abraham, Moses, John the Baptist, and other dispensational figures. We must be curious about their objectives and motives. This will be the issue.

A lonely life

All of these great men started their life of faith centered not on themselves, but on God. Why do we have to respect and sometimes even worship them? Simply because they were guided by God, not by themselves. Also, we should know what kind of life they lived for God in their age. We find that they all had a conflict -- their life of faith versus the life of reality. We find further that they were not of one will when they faced these conflicts, but that they solved the problem when they brought themselves to center on God, not on their own desires. And we know that because of this conflict between God's side and the world's side, these people endured persecution and suffering. That is why they are great people.

Always we find that their life in this world was lonely because they suffered so much and were rejected by the world. They usually had no one to convey their thoughts and feelings to; they could go only to God. And when we look at their lives in the world, their material lives, we find that they were so limited in their material life that they naturally turned their hearts and lives toward God. When we imagine the consciousness they must have had, we can see that the scope of their thinking was narrowed down so that they saw everything centered on God. That was their life. They had to live their lives centering on oneness with God.

In every area -- relationships with people, knowledge, material things -- they plunged themselves into a relationship with God, because there was no one else to rely on except God. There was no way to have give and take horizontally, to seek an object of happiness in their surroundings, so they concentrated on finding their object in God -- more seriously than they had sought an object in this world. Because the foundation for their faith was so narrow, they had to rely on heaven to get through such a narrow channel to God. And thus they opened new realms by embracing God with hope and the desire for a higher ideal.

A narrow way

Even if only a narrow way was open to God, they were not discouraged. We should also be optimistic in the same situation. There is always a way to continue. We cannot be discontented. God created all things for the happiness and satisfaction and contentment of people. So even when we reach this narrow pass, we will not feel defeated, because from that narrow point a new relationship between ourselves and God will open up. There we will find true happiness and greater contentment. For example, St. Francis emphasized pure poverty, a nothingness in which he could find happiness, appreciation and satisfaction. From that point on, God could work with him and let him feel happy and joyful. Oneness with God could be created from that point.

We have to realize that we as fallen people are standing in between two lines representing God's side and the world's side. We have to recognize the narrowing down of those lines; then we will know when the new era of happiness and joy will begin. You know the life of Noah. When he met a deadlock -- 120 years of receiving persecution while he built his ark -- at that point he was forced into a narrow position, and a new life of faith began. You will have created a new realm of happiness and blessing when you are able to overcome the point of being narrowed down, when you prove you can open a new door to your relationship with God. For years Noah could only think of building the ark, and went to the mountain to work there.

Do you think there is a woman who can endure ten years with such a husband? In America wife sues for a divorce if her husband goes away for six months. Noah's work was not an ordinary task. Therefore this event must have been the greatest event after God created man. And if a wife starts to persecute her husband, the children will also do the same with her. How much pain Noah must have felt in his heart when his family could not understand him. Because of this he had great troubles. When he asked his family to get him something to eat, or something to wear, they treated him as if he were a beggar. Noah could stand the persecutions outside of his family- from the village or from the nation. But these sufferings and persecutions were coming from inside his own family, the most difficult for him to bear. In spite of that, he had to finish his work. He had great confidence, great faith in God. Noah's life was full of persecution and rejection -- he was entirely alone. But he couldn't cast off God, though he had to forget all others.

His wife and children might have felt sometimes that they would have liked to kill him. But the more he received persecution from his environment, the more whole his heart for God became. He became separated from his circumstances and his community. He became separated from the world, so he came into the position where he could receive God's love. If he had rejected those people who persecuted him, then God's will wouldn't have been fulfilled. But Noah sacrificed himself for those who persecuted him. Instead of causing them to suffer, Noah had a mind to forgive their sins for God. He was standing in the position of the unfallen brother asking God to forgive the fallen brother and sister and willingly bearing all the difficulties.

Noah had such a heart. Because of that heart God could proceed in His providence of restoration. The position of complete self-denial centered on God -- that was Noah's position.

This same principle can be applied elsewhere -- for example, in the case of Moses and John the Baptist. Moses went the same course. He spent his youth in the Pharaoh's palace. But when he saw his people suffering, he left the Pharaoh's palace. He killed an Egyptian who persecuted Israelites. Moses' position was to save Israel, in spite of the danger. But the people of Israel didn't receive Moses, who tried to save them. They persecuted him, and expelled him to the wilderness of Midian. There for 40 years Moses longed for God, loved God, and made a resolution to save his people. Because of that intention, God chose him to free the Israel people from Egypt.

Let's look at John's life. At the time of his ministry as recorded in the Gospels, he was 30 years old, a young man eating nuts and honey in the wilderness. He came out of his home and left his relatives behind, thinking of the will of God. In the Bible we read that John ate locusts and wild honey. But his life must have been painful in the wilderness. Do you think he lived solely on locusts and wild honey? It can't be. If you have been to Israel, you know that it isn't a land which would yield much honey. Therefore, he acted like a beggar, going from home to home.

Many children followed him, jeering at him. But his mind was concentrating on the idea of the Messiah's coming, and he looked for God's love in the form of the Messiah. So his life was worthy of God's sympathy, and he could stand in the position of witnessing to the Messiah. Though he had been led by God to do this, he was in a position to complain about his situation if he had wanted to. We know he did not care about the problem of detour around material things, but instead he thought, "How can I open a new door?" That's the point where he was great.

Why struggle?

Perhaps some of you are thinking, "Why struggle to believe in God? If He exists, He will come down and make a connection with me." If God could do this, we would already be one with Him. That would be fine. But as fallen people, we have no automatic relationship with God. Still, God is the Subject; we are created to be His good objects, though we are not yet in that association. Subject and object should have some kind of close interaction. We don't have it between ourselves and God. Under these circumstances you cannot say, "Why believe in God?" We have at least a minimum standard of relationship we must endeavor to reach on our part. Let us take an analogy: In some university a certain professor may be knowledgeable in a certain subject area. But in order to have the opportunity to learn from him, you need to conform to an objective standard; you first must register for his course. Otherwise, the professor and student have no connection. Naturally certain subjects and objects fit together. They have similar angles, a meeting point, complementary natures, and so on. Otherwise it would not be possible for the professor and the student to relate to each other at all.

Nevertheless, their relationship is not automatic. Between the Subject and yourselves -- fallen people, the object -- if God decides something, because He is an absolute God, what He decides is eternal and unchanging. Be sets the standard. Can you meet His standard if you change your mind a hundred times a day? God is eternal. He never alters His course in the middle. Even if you make a determined effort, how long will you continue? A month, a year, several years, ten years? Your determination also will change. Sometimes you say to yourself, "If I like it, then I will go and do it. If not, then I will not do it."

Truth is truth whether you live or die; it is eternal. Truth is beyond death, beyond changeability. In order to be a true person you have to be beyond death. You must have the quality of steadfastness. This means there will be a collision at some point between your changeability and unchangeability. Unchanging elements will overcome changing elements. Changing elements will vanish. Life and death will collide. When you overcome death you will have life. If you pass through this stage then you will have a connection with God. Then when will the moment of truth come for you? It will be the time when there appears an opportunity to be unchanging and changing at the same time. A life and death situation will appear. This is a time of confrontation and challenge. That is when the truth emerges.

Unfortunately, when we live in this world, we like to remain as we are. Also, we don't want to die, or we don't want to be defeated in the reality of this world. The secret to overcome this situation, to find the eternal truth, is to overcome death and come to life, to overcome changeability and become unchangeable. When a completely faithful person appears in this world, since God is Himself unchanging, then He will come down to dwell with him among the people on earth and help them. He will remain eternally with us when He sees the chaotic world beginning to center itself on the Source of life, the Source of eternity.

Passing a test

So because God's essence is this absolute standard, to be His object we have to copy that pattern, meet that standard. We have to ask ourselves if we qualify to meet His criteria. In order to find whether or not you are qualified, you must be tested through suffering and hardship. You may sometimes think a certain test is too hard for you, but when you look at it in a different way, this is the means through which God will give you the chance to prove your value. And when you pass the test with a perfect score, that means the teacher has given you one chance to promote yourself. Usually a teacher asks those questions which he thinks the students do not know. Why ask them what they already know? Usually questions any professor gives are designed to bring the most qualified person out. To do that he picks the toughest questions. When you have passed the test and are at the top, then you and the professor immediately have a certain relationship. The professor values you especially because you have made it through the test, and he can bequeath all his legacy of knowledge and work to you. If after many years, he finds only one person who can pass the test, then naturally that person would become the heir of this professor.

God is doing the same things with us. He would not want us just to be businessmen or salesmen. He is not interested in that. He wants to find His loving children, to make you His true sons and daughters. When this relationship is really established it is inviolable. Nothing can invade that. God feels so sorrowful that this oneness of love was lost by the fall. He has been working through the restoration providence to find people on earth who understand this. So this God will lead you on earth to know Him to the ultimate point, where He can do something for you. He called Noah long ago, but in the middle of his course, Noah failed.

Abraham, Moses and John the Baptist all failed to fulfill God's entire hope for them. So He wants people on earth today, including yourselves, to be superior to those men of the past. God's desire is for you to quickly pass the test. Therefore, He must let you have intense suffering in a short period of time. It took Abraham many years just to establish faith in God. God must ask you quickly to pass the test of suffering and hardship to the same degree. He wants to have your time shortened. For the unchanging God to find the unchanging children, He must test you in a changing situation. God sometimes appears Himself as a capricious God, but this is from your point of view only.

Sometimes you are led in contradictory ways to what you had been taught before. It may look like God is changing, but He has a purpose behind this. In order to find unchanging children He must test you in a changing situation. So when the eternally living God comes to you, He will look like He is leading you into death. It is a test. So the God of life seems like a God of death, in order to restore His children. In the early ages of Christian history, we see this method: God appears to inspire only martyrdom.

Through this paradoxical way, He has been restoring people. So we can easily imagine that all the 2000 years of Christianity will be tested; all mankind will be tested in the Last Days.

What is God looking for in this age? He cannot work through the people who accept the world and adapt to it as it is. He looks for the people who never deviate from His standard in this deviated world. He is looking for the people whose faith is so strong that they believe, "Even if the world perishes, we will not." That is the kind of person God is looking for. They will create a new world. That is what God expects from His sons and daughters on earth.

If someone says, "Even without God's help we are going to complete our mission," then what will happen? When people with that attitude appear, then of course God must call these people to His side. There are two kinds of people in this respect -- those who do the right things without God's direction, and those who always need God to say, "Do this, do that." Bold people will automatically come out to awaken existing churches of this world to the new reality.

Making faith and reality one

Now the life of faith looks intangible and unreal, but it is in fact the eternal and substantial one. While the reality of this world is vivid and can be sensed, it cannot be trusted; it is ephemeral and inconstant. The life of faith in God has the quality of constancy. So this means the life of faith and the reality of the world are opposite. There are several aspects in which this is concretely true. For one thing, in the life of faith you have to be recognized first by God. Secondly, you must always surpass the spiritual standards of past saints and sages. Thirdly, even though saints in the historical dispensation courses may have failed in their mission, you must succeed in your course. Finally, in the past, God gave man help an.cl direction; in this age He expects us to do things by ourselves.

Good sons and daughters will recover everything and return it to God without asking His help. Then you yourself will have liberated God. Restoration will be complete when these sons and daughters restore their heavenly Father's sorrow and bring Him joy. Then He will feel that genuine, pure love is possible again, like that which existed before the fall of man. He will be happy to receive His true sons and daughters. God will automatically welcome you to come to His bosom.

When you have trouble, don't ask Him to help you. Instead you should say, "Father, help the whole world," This kind of attitude of heart is similar to that where there are many brothers, and one brother says to their parents, "Instead of helping me, please take care of my brothers and sisters." That kind of attitude is so precious to the parents. It is quite proper in the ordinary family that such a son might get up early and talk to his parents while the other children are still in bed. That's also the way God's children make a good relationship with Him. The parents will take this child into their confidence. The same thing applies to God and His children. This son naturally will become the center, the heir, the object to his parents. They can speak with him even about secret things. This is the standard of intimacy we are striving for with God. When you do face suffering you yourself have to overcome it. You have to look at the overall situation and determine how to deal with it.

When you walk along the street, why don't you take God's point of view? You have to notice the evil things you would want to change, and then the good things you will multiply for your nation and for mankind. When you look at things this way, through God's eyes, you will be always growing. When you look at the weakness of the political situation, when you look at the changing elements from God's position, you should think, "I am going to reform this and that." If nobody else does it, think in your own mind, "I will do it."

When you maintain this kind of disposition, automatically angels and saints will come to you and help you even if you never ask for help from God. Wherever you go, you do not have to worry. You are perfectly all right even in the most dangerous of situations. With this confidence you can overcome any difficulties. Then God will reveal to you in many ways what is going to take place in the world, through dreams or visions or inspiration. This will be very comforting to you in this world of change.

We are at the frontier of the world of reality, so we must be prepared to suffer the most. In the past life in faith, a person came to believe in something. At this time your life in faith will come to have actual reality. Far beyond that world and far beyond the standard of past faith, anything is possible at this stage. Historical men of faith worked hard, but all the accumulated good did not belong to them; they gave everything to us. When we believe and bring their hope into reality by our work, their merit becomes ours. Now your spiritual accomplishments are your own. Therefore, a life of faith can be a life of reality. Very soon, the age of the four-dimensional world will appear. Many spiritual phenomena will take place on earth, and the whole world will be influenced by spiritual experience. The realm of faith and the world of reality will unite.
