Honorable chairman, committee chairmen, distinguished professors, ladies and gentlemen:

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to you for coming to this, the fifteenth International Conference on the Unity of the Sciences. Thank you for accommodating it in your busy schedules.

My topic on this occasion is, "True Love and the Unified World." The fundamental cause of confusion in the world today is the conflict between idealism or spiritualism on the one hand and materialism on the other, which is the conflict between the side of goodness and the side of evil. This conflict in turn can be expressed as the confrontation between the good God and the evil "god."

The hope of humankind is peace, and peace can be realized only through unification. This means unification not only on the world level but on many other levels as well: unification within each nation, within each family and within each individual. Of these, the most important is unification within the individual. In considering all current unification movements of the world at any of these levels, I would like to invite your careful scrutiny of my contributions.

In order to realize the world of peace God desires that the following must be accomplished. First, the unification movement must achieve preeminence in the realm of human thought. It needs to challenge and surpass all narrower philosophical and religious views.

Second, this unification movement must rise to the summit of technology and then distribute that technology evenly throughout the world. Up to the present day, technologically advanced North America has dominated

South America, while Europe has held sway over Africa. In order to correct this, the level of technology needs to be equalized among all countries.

Third, this movement must resolve global economic problems. Today the world is confronting an international monetary crisis. This can be managed if numerous conglomerates buy stock in and establish a supranational bank.

Fourth, it has to become preeminent in the realm of media. With The Washington Times at the core, we are rising toward preeminence among the American print media, a field of more than 1,750 American newspapers. By doing so we can become peerless in all fields of information gathering. Today we have surpassed the liberal New York Times and Washington Post in this area and are continually gaining important and sensitive information not only from America but also from governments all over the world.

However, even if the ultimate unification movement stands on the summit in all the realms of thought, science, technology, economy and media, there remains yet another problem: how to guide through education people who can go beyond their nation and race. The problem is illustrated by the fact that, for example, when an American takes responsibility for a project, he tends to employ all Americans for the task; if the manager is English, he tends to employ only English people; the French employ only French people, and so forth.

Therefore, before the peace and unification of the world can be contemplated, one must know how to educate people so they can completely overcome their own sense of nationality in favor of embracing the world. Even communism, which rules half the globe, cannot rid itself of its own nationalist and racist inclinations, and is reduced to "racist communism."

Turning to the question of God, in the latter half of the twentieth century much of the world's population has inclined toward a humanistic outlook that denies God and has turned toward the worship of mammon, while much of the rest of the population has fallen under communism, which is mere materialism. Philosophy, whose task it is to find God or absolute truth, has failed, and religion, which is supposed to connect humankind with God, is now on the verge of losing God and becoming spiritless.

In the unification of the world, the crucial problem is the individual person. Before the unification of the world is possible, we must achieve the unification of the nation and the unification of the family, and the unification of the family must be preceded by the unification of the individual person -- which means the unification of mind and body. When the individual suffers inner conflict, the family suffers. When the family suffers, the nation cannot help but suffer; and when the nation suffers, the world cannot but suffer.

After all is said and done, a true person must be found, a true person whom humankind and the universe can cherish and whom God can trust. People like things that do not change. Hence they like jewelry. People value the hardness of diamonds, the luster of gold and the iridescence of pearls, all because of their unchangeableness. This is also true of people. The unchangingly good person is precious and true. Therefore, all people want unchangingly good parents, unchangingly good teachers, unchangingly good leaders and unchangingly good nations.

Today, the increase in the number of people who do not recognize God is disturbing. This is because as individuals their minds and bodies are in conflict. But if even those who do not recognize God realize that something must be wrong in human beings, they will come to have a different outlook and see that there may be a God. Then, encountering such religious concepts as the Fall and salvation, they may discover God.

When we discover God, it becomes clear to us what is public and what is private. That which is public means that which is for the whole, and that which is private is for the self. When we reflect on ourselves objectively, we find ourselves in a quandary over what is public and what is private. Because of this, religion teaches us restraint through spiritual practices such as fasting, sacrificial service, modesty and humility in order that the body, which is very much inclined toward the private way of behaving, may be restrained in favor of the mind, which is more public.,

God certainly exists. True people are those who resemble God. To realize the world in which true people abound, not a social or political revolution but a revolution of character must take place in human beings. This character revolution is to transform people into true people who will come to resemble God. This character revolution is to uplift human beings' character and bring it closer to God's own character. God, who is already omniscient and omnipotent, does not need any more knowledge or power, but even He needs His object partners of love, man and woman.

The sixteenth verse of the third chapter of the Gospel of John says, "God so loved the world that he gave his only Son." (John 3:16) This means that

God sent Jesus for the sake of all humankind, not just for one particular denomination or segment of believers. Therefore God embraces sons and daughters who love the world with their very life, as does He Himself. What God loves most is a culture of love. What He wants every man and woman to be is not a person of wealth or a scholar but a person of love. In the Bible we encounter innumerable teachings concerning love: "Love your enemies," "Love your neighbor," of "faith, hope and love,... the greatest of these is love," to name only a few.

Do wives truly love their husbands? Do students truly love their teachers? Do citizens truly love their countries? Ladies and gentlemen, do you know what is most precious to a man? It is a woman. Likewise what is most precious to a woman is a man. The purpose of life for a man is a woman and for a woman is a man, and we are all born into it. Man and woman are born to live for each other. The harmony of their body shapes and of their organs of love reflects this.

If you truly understand this, you have mastered more truth and precious wisdom than an entire encyclopedia. Reflecting this mutual preciousness of man and woman, God, the great King of wisdom, has placed our reproductive organs in each other's custody. Thus the true master of the reproductive organ a man or woman possesses is not the individual at all but his or her loving spouse. Those husbands and wives who are ignorant of this and misuse what they have in an indiscriminate way will surely meet judgment.

By realizing this truth, husband and wife can attain harmony, and their children will develop filial piety. The children of such a marriage will grow up to be loyal patriots and faithful husbands or wives. Such couples will grow further to become saints and eventually will become holy sons or daughters who are one with God.

Without finding mutual love between husband and wife, which is a horizontal relationship, we cannot receive God's love, which is a vertical relationship. If humankind had not fallen, heaven would have begun in a family, and all the people populating the world would be the expansion of that family. Thus the family is the training ground of love to qualify men and women for heaven.

Only those who possess God's love can inherit the right to heaven and earth. In this regard, which comes first, life or love? The answer is love. Love is the universe's first existence, and life, which only begins as a result of love, is the second existence. In a family, children are born out of the love of their parents. Thus children inherit life from their parents, having been a part of their parents' love.

Once two parties are bound together in a relationship of love, they come to stand on an equal level. Since love comes from the other, "live for the sake of others" is the highest philosophical principle. God created human beings to be His own object partners; thus He created them for the sake of the object partners, human beings themselves. God likewise made humanity to exist for the sake of Himself. However, as a result of the Fall, people have become self-centered, living for the sake of themselves rather than for the sake of others.

Today's human society is growing corrupt, and philosophies are becoming self-centered. To sweep away these philosophies, only God's love, true love, can suffice. True love is the love to give and give without expecting anything in return. Thus we have to give and then forget what we have given.

Once we actualize such a relationship of love with God, He gives us the privileges of dominion, independence and inheritance. When we establish God's realm of the object partner and realize the glory of unchanging love, we can establish an eternal ethic centering on human love.

God, who is truly in a miserable and pitiful position, is still seeking His realm of the true object partner. I am humbled to say that God has recognized me as such an object partner of love, and most recently visited me in prison, out of so many clergymen in this country of America, to tell me to work on Nicaragua's crucial situation.

The unification of the world, including that of divided Korea, can never be accomplished by military power. Unification becomes possible Only with God's love, a love that embraces enemy countries as well.

I have practiced this ideal up to this day. In my ministry in America, I have been teaching people of the mutually hostile countries of World War II to love each other -- Japanese and Korean, Japanese and American, and American and German. Without establishing a firm tradition of being able to love the people of enemy nations more than our own countrymen, the unification of the world will not become a reality. Only God's love will enable us to love enemy countries more than our own.

To repeat, before the unification of the world can be achieved, the unification of the country, the unification of the family and the unification of the individual must take place. The unification of the individual, as I mentioned before, means unity between the mind and body in love. On this foundation husband and wife can achieve unity in love -- and the unification of the country and the world will follow. Also, this is the only way to realize a world with a new civilization.

It is therefore my fervent wish that all you professors gathered here will also strive for the unity of your mind and body. Love your wife or husband deeply, and thereby contribute to the unification of the world and the building of a world of new culture.

In closing, I hope this conference will be a very fruitful one for you.

The Destination at which the Church Must Aim

The purpose of a church is to find and establish God's nation; it is not to find and establish a church. God's original ideal for creation was to establish one world centered on a nation. Hence, the destination of the church is to find that nation. (149-18, 1986.11.2)

In the future, the time of the church will pass. The church is not what humankind desires. The church is needed during the process of restoration in the realm of the Fall, but once a new era arrives, the era of the church will pass away. For this reason, the Unification Church is not just doing church activities. Under the name of the church, we are adapting to society, reforming society, and initiating a movement to purify society. The mission of pioneers is to do that which cannot be done by the people who are just living within the boundaries of their own culture, society, and world. You must walk this pioneering path. (28- 222, 1970.1.11)

If the church were to divide into two and the two into four, and if it divided three times in this way, God would leave the church. That is the way of the heavenly principle, instead, people will gather as families. Those with grace will gather as families. They will not go to church. They will kneel in prayer in their families. Wait and see if this happens or not. (9-266, 1960.6.5)

Christians affirm that the omniscient, omnipotent, gracious, and loving God will forgive us even if we commit sins tens of thousands of times. Then, as soon as they leave church, they start fighting. The church is not a place in which to repent after committing sin. If God is a being who can easily forgive so many sins, there is one big question: why did God not forgive the single sin that was committed by Satan in the Garden of Eden? What do you think? If there had been a way for Satan to be forgiven so easily, he would have repented. He would have repented tens of thousands of times with tears. (19-161, 1968.1.1)

Freedom from the portion of responsibility

Restoration through indemnity exists to create a realm where you are free from having to fulfill the portion of responsibility. It exists to restore the original environment where you are free from having to fulfill your portion of responsibility. This is logical. I am also wrapped up in this responsibility. That is why I receive worldwide opposition. I receive persecution and an attacked on the world level. By undergoing this worldwide persecution, I can separate myself from Satan on the world level.

Restoration through indemnity cannot be avoided. Why do we have to go the course of restoration through indemnity? Why do we need to separate from Satan? It is because we need to fulfill the original portion of responsibility and build the foundation for a free environment. Then, Satan cannot accuse us and we will come to stand upon a base where Satan cannot have any relationship with us. That is why restoration through indemnity and fulfilling our portion of responsibility cannot be avoided, logically speaking. That is why we must separate from Satan. Thus, we must have the thinking that even if we are going without meals we will have no relationship with the satanic world. That is the dividing point, the borderline.

The way of restoration through indemnity is the way of separation from Satan. Why should we be separated from Satan? In order to find the realm of the portion of responsibility. Originally, Satan does not exist in the realm of the portion of responsibility. That is the realm of Adam's portion of responsibility. The original standard is that the realm of Adam's portion of responsibility cannot be invaded by Satan. We need to instill that clear notion into people's minds. We must go this path in any case. We must complete our portion of responsibility and be grafted onto God's love. If we want to graft onto God's love, we must separate from Satan. We must be completely separated from everything related to Satan.

I have been in and out of prison several times, in both North and South Korea. You must know this. Why must we accomplish restoration through indemnity? Why should we be separated from Satan? The reason we should separate from Satan is in order to make free the realm of the portion of responsibility. Did Satan interfere with the life of Adam and Eve before the Fall? You cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven if Satan has interfered with your life.

Where are you standing now? Your conscience knows where you are. You cannot deceive it. It knows where you are going.

Where does the Kingdom of Heaven expand from? It does not expand just from the point of separating from Satan. It expands from the realm of the fulfillment of human responsibility. That is to say, through Adam and Eve having fulfilled their portion of responsibility, the realms of direct and indirect dominion and the love of the heavenly realm and the love of the earthly realm connect for the first time. This is in accordance with the Principle. This has not been established so far because Satan is obstructing it. It is Satan who blocks the way of the love of God.

Restoration through indemnity is inevitable. Why should we accomplish restoration through indemnity? Why should we separate from Satan? It is because we need the foundation of a free environment where we can naturally fulfill our original portion of responsibility. It is because we need to hold onto a place where Satan cannot accuse us or be connected with us in any way. Thus, logically, we must inevitably meet the standard of restoration through indemnity and fulfill our portion of responsibility. That is why you must separate from Satan. That is why you must have the thinking not to be related to the satanic world, even if you have to starve. That is the divide. This is the borderline.

After fulfilling their full portion of responsibility the True Parents must harmonize the realms of heart in the realms of indirect and direct dominion. To build the Kingdom of Heaven a base that can unify the heavenly world and the earthly world must emerge. That is the ideal of creation. Otherwise the kingdom cannot come.

Because we do not understand restoration through indemnity we cannot resolve human history. If we could review all of history we would see that those who were evil inevitably faced ruin based on the principle of cause and effect. However, we have not known why all these things came to pass. Furthermore, we have not known why the ideal of humanity has not been fulfilled. The love of God must be manifested but we did not know where and how that would be. This ideal will not materialize from the mind of a scholar. It will appear from the bone marrow of the original parents. Thus, that the history of the True Parents has begun means that a foundation has been established upon which the origin of the heavenly kingdom can be connected to this earth. Without going through the True Parents, the Kingdom of Heaven cannot emerge.

My goal is to develop once again the ocean cities in America so that fish and fish products can be exported to feed people all over the world. Some of you may be wondering why you have been called to Gloucester, such a small and insignificant town. You must inherit my spirit which overcomes persecution and difficult situations, because I have a vision of how to save the world and even provide food for the entire world.

The boats you are riding on were designed by me and built by the members. After nine years of experience, I developed the Good Go boat. When I first started building these boats, no one had any expertise. Mr. Kamiyama was at a total loss when he first heard my plan for the boats. He looked completely shocked and said, "What, we are going to build fishing boats?" He truly hoped that I wouldn't tell him to build those boats, but I said, "Build 150 boats in the first year."

Think about it. With so much money invested in such an expensive boat, each one was given to completely inexperienced members who didn't know anything about its value. With these boats, they were trained how to fish for tuna. With each boat that we produced, there was a tremendous amount of tears and sweat and prayer involved. You may not be able to see that, but that kind of spirit is built into each boat. If you truly understand this, you must shed tears when you ride on that boat. When I took my first ride on a Good Go, did I cry or did I just laugh without much serious thought? What do you think? Therefore, you must pray to have the proper attitude and inherit the spiritual and international connection to these boats. Each country around the world sent their members to help build these boats, and they put their tears and sweat into these boats. No one understood anything. We started virtually from scratch. No one knew what kind of material to buy or how to begin the first step. I know the value of each boat will be worth more than 100 thousand or a million dollars in the future. Why?

Because people will say, "This is a boat built by Reverend Moon." For this reason, I instructed the members to buy the best quality of materials that they could find; they had to build the boat with the highest standards, not just so-so.

I know that in the future sometime, in each of the fifty states, even if they have to sell their capitol building in order to buy one of these boats, they will do that. But now, some Unification members feel like they don't even want to look at those boats, that they want to run away from their boat. I see that kind of thing. My goal and desire and hope is built into this boat, but the young American members don't understand this and sometimes, they try to run away from this boat.

If you read the speech from when I began Ocean Church, you will see how serious and how important that message was. However, even after I gave that kind of explanation, many of them since that time went away from this Ocean Church activity. It's a shame, but I cannot give up. Even though I wanted to give this to American young people, they didn't catch their opportunity, so I had to bring young Japanese members to do the job. In order for you to find the most valuable and precious treasure, you have to go the most difficult path. That's true.

American members who are here this summer, did you come voluntarily or did you come because you were sent? Do you really want to be here? I don't believe you, yet. You will have to show me. I have watched so many American members leave and run away from this Ocean Church activity, even though there might have been good reason for some to go. I stood by and just watched their coming and going. In the meantime, I never changed my goal and my spirit for this Ocean Church endeavor. Why? Simply because I know the value of it.

If you American young men go out fishing, who will point a finger at you? No one. However, everyone pointed at me because I was a Korean man. You must understand that with everything you go through, every difficult situation and every persecution, I have already gone through this course before you. Do you understand? I never retreat, but always move forward. People might have said this year, "Well, Reverend Moon was in Danbury prison last year and now he is out. His movement must have declined a little since he was there. Well, they had twenty or so boats last year, so maybe this year we will see only ten or so boats." Instead I went right ahead and ordered seventy boats to go out this year! Do you have the same spirit?

I think you are just like any other young American out there. You are the same type. You are shouting "No!", but I think you are the same type. What do you think? Is this true or not? I cannot trust you. You have to show me! When you bring result, then I can see you are different. From now, we are going the difficult way. Can you do it? Raise your hands. Can you do it? Those Japanese members who didn't understand my talk missed the chance to raise your hands. Please do not forget that the boats you are riding in are the best of the best fishing boats in the world and they are made by Reverend Moon. We built this boat, Moonie spirit built this boat. Not because we wanted to make money, but because we wanted to make the spirit of America alive again.

Until this city of Gloucester itself disappears, we will come here every year. We will take care of this town; we will take care of this ocean. We have about 200 people here tonight. Everyone has a similar situation don't they? You have two hands and two eyes and all your limbs intact. I may indeed have the same features as you, but when it comes to the ability to lead people, to having a fighting spirit, to being able to go on, I have more ability than all 200 of you together. The difference is in my determination and dedication, in my spirit.

They will welcome you. From now on, people will begin to see our motivation more clearly. We will win every fight. We have that foundation. First, you must save your nation. Second, you have to secure the future of the ocean. There used to be at least forty large fishing vessels working out of Gloucester. Now, there are only a few. There is no hope in this country for the ocean. We are bringing hope to this nation.

You cannot complain about anything. You are inheriting everything. The ocean has a great and wonderful future. I know it. You believe it. Who is that future for? For who? For us? For America. You came here, not because of your leader, but because God was calling you. You are here because of God's calling. You have to know how special it is to be here. Don't complain about being here.

Tuna Fishing and the Way of Life
July 5, 1984 -- Morning Garden

Basically, this tuna fishing is not just to go out and get the tuna and make some money. That is not the central point at all. This is good basic training for the rest of your life. If you apply the principles you learn faithfully, you can make a success out of your life. Do you understand? Like anything else you do in your life, you have to put a lot of time in. Study everything, discuss it with others and read it again, then put in concentrated effort.

Actually, I didn't have the time to come here, but I felt so much that I wanted to give you a good start, so I came yesterday and went fishing at four o'clock in the morning. Today I am here with you. Tomorrow I may go out too, but that will be the last day. I cannot stay with you all summer, so please, do your best. The last ten years, I devoted every single day of the season out on the ocean. Rain or shine, I went out. Literally, rain or shine. There were storm warnings and still I went out. One time there was a storm coming and everyone could see it clearly, but in the middle of the night I said, "Let's go." The captain obeyed and we went out. I've gone out in the midst of a frenzied ocean and endured it. And then, in the morning I came back in, having won over that.

While I was in the boat waiting for the tuna to come, I thought over and over again of the providence in America and planned what to do. I thought about the problem of world hunger and planned what to do step by step. I didn't just think one or two years ahead, not like that. Instead, I thought about hundreds of years to come and what to do to prepare for that. I thought about how to farm the tuna and how it could be nurtured and used for millions of pounds of nutritional food in the future. I thought like that all the time. There is nothing that I didn't think of in the long hours while I was waiting for the tuna to come.

Every morning I went out, no matter how early. I was always full of hope and expectation for that day. I came back when the sun was setting, returning with elation that I had done my very best for that day and wondering what the next day had in store for me. I expect you to take pride and to go the same path that I have gone. You are now privileged to tread the very same path that I have walked these past ten years.

Ocean Church and America

The One Hope boats have to go everywhere so that people will see them and come to respect what we are doing. It's a dream, and I am holding onto that dream in my mind. That means that it is in an invisible form, but it will become visible. We will see it in the future. We will see it soon. A man who believes can do anything. A man who acts can achieve anything. "Believing man and Doing man." That is how I am and that is how I envision you to become. Actually, it isn't a dream. It is what I know.

Why We Have Ocean Training
July 2, 1984 -- Morning Garden

If you experience how difficult it is to go out on a boat every day, think about my experience on the New Hope for the past ten years. Never once during any of those ten seasons, did I lay down and sleep on the boat. I put my entire will power and whole heart into this training. Every moment while I was on the boat, during the long tedious wait for the tuna, I was always praying to commit myself even more for the sake of God and mankind. That is what I want you to inherit here.

Don't let things bother you while you are out on the water. No matter how someone might agitate you, just ignore him. Think to yourself that it's some neighbor's dog barking at you.

The spiritual world is like the dark horse in a race. It may be the most unlikely thing, but it happens. Maybe you pick up an old line that someone else threw away. They caught lots of tuna on that line, but finally they made a new one. And you have all new lines, but you put that old one on. Then suddenly you catch a tuna. How can you explain that? It has happened. That's why I am telling you these things. You have to love your equipment, your hooks and lines. You have to cherish the ones that catch, even bring them to your bed because you never want them out of your sight. That kind of feeling, that kind of love is okay. This love is connected everywhere and it connects in an invisible way, in a most unlikely way.

The Japanese members come around to me and say, "The New Hope is becoming an old boat, it's more than thirteen years old now, Father, let's change it." I don't want to hurt their feelings, so I say something like, "Oh, you think so?" Actually, I am wondering, "What are you talking about?" Already, if we were to write the history of how we began this training program, 99% of it would center on the New Hope. Even if we got a brand new boat, even if someone donated it to us, we would never write as much about it.

It is like a marriage. If you are married for ten years and your wife gets old, do you try to get rid of her and get a new one? How would the New Hope feel if that happened? Would it be happy or sad? It would cry out! Instead, I am thinking of when I give all these things to the next generation I will change the boat and give the new one to them. At that time, I will retire the New Hope and put her in a special museum. The New Hope will understand because this is normal. The boat knows it cannot live forever and it will agree to a replacement at that time. I truly feel that way. I have that kind of sensitivity to the New Hope. This says something to all of us. How are we different from the rest of the world? Through our heart. We are making a heartistic world which is quite different from what most other people are doing. If we are going to ride on the New Hope and on the One Hope boats, we must really love them.

We have to bear in mind then, that Moonie boats are to be loved with one's whole heart. Actually, I wondered if you needed me to come and talk to you this year. Then I thought about the New Hope and said, "I've been coming to the New Hope every year and it will miss me." I couldn't tolerate the thought of that. The New Hope has recently been fishing in Montauk and I have been there fishing on it. I asked for it to come back to Gloucester, however, it has just been sitting here for several days, so I couldn't help but thinking of coming to Gloucester and visiting it. I wanted to talk to the boat and tell it, "I fished with you all last summer, every day, but this summer I can't fish as much with you. I hope you can understand." I know that the New Hope will understand if I am not around so much. I am telling you these things because I want to urge you this year, not to let your loved one, your boat lose its spirit. Don't let it be damaged. Just as you would protect your own body, take care of your boat with all your heart.

The Heart and Spirit of Fishing

Therefore, whatever we tackle, whether it is Ocean Church or an ocean business, it is not out of a sense of duty. No! Whatever you are doing you must understand is yours. You must be able to look at what you are doing and proudly say, "That's mine." Look at the One Hope boat. Who made that boat? I initiated it and Mr. Kamiyama organized it, but whose boat is it? It is yours.

Although Ocean Church owns the boats, you cannot think that someone else will take responsibility. You have to know that when you take a boat out, it is truly your responsibility. And the fishing gear, who designed it? I did. However, when you take that equipment and use it, to whom does it belong? To you. This way you have direct attachment and responsibility.

What is the center of our moving forward? Only true love. With true love, your accomplishments will go on for eternity. With true love, what you accomplish will never disappear, never go away, but will remain for eternity. What about the contents of your mind? If you think, "I am too far away from the standard," then this is the time to think again.

Nature is a textbook teaching the ideal of love (A)

People observe and learn from nature as they grow up. They come to understand, "This is what the insect world is like!" When you listen carefully on an autumn night when the moon is shining and stars are twinkling, the sounds of the insects are like an orchestra. Why do they make such a sound? They are singing of their ideal as they search for their partners. They are whispering love. Birds and all other animals also follow this common denominator of love when they make their sad and happy sounds. They are low on the scale and far away from the axis, and yet they are circling around the axis in parallel. It is the same for all existing beings. (137-59, 1985.12.18)

There are three kinds of birds' songs. First, there is a song expressing hunger; second, a song sung in expressing love for a mate; and third, a song sung in time of danger. These are all different. We ordinary people do not know this, but they know in their own world. When they call out of hunger, all of the other birds already know. But around what does their daily life revolve? Hunger is taken care of simply by eating, and they are not facing danger every day, either. Most of their singing goes back and forth in the give and take relationship with their partner. (137-211, 1986.1.3)

Human beings were created as a subject partner and object partner; that is, as a pair. The world of all things, too, which exists for the sake of humankind, creates harmony under the principle of love and realizes its life and ideal through the love of humankind. For humankind, and especially for the maturing Adam and Eve, the world of all things is a textbook of love and a museum that infinitely displays the essence of love. (135-10, 1985.8.20)

All birds and animals exist in pairs. They harmonize with each other in love. Flowers and butterflies relate as two opposite poles, yet harmonize with each other. This is the harmonious relationship of heaven and earth. The opposite poles of the universe create harmony through love. It's the same with migratory birds. Birds in the south fly to the north, and birds in the north fly to the south, loving each other back and forth across the regions. In so doing, they revolve eternally around love. People learn about love through the textbooks in the museum God created.

When people and God love each other in joy, all the things in heaven and earth follow the rhythm and harmonize around them. If God likes this, and loves this, the angelic world will also like it. The entire created world will like it too, applauding and offering praise. Songbirds will sing praises, and beautiful flowers will offer praises through their fragrances. This created world exists in order to expand the fragrant atmosphere in which the central personages of the highest love can enjoy themselves. Even the ugly-looking toads croak "wook, wook, wook," when they make love. How charming! They kick with their legs and move them up and down while making love. What a delightful scene! This is the highest art. (142-273, 1986.3.13)

When spring comes and birds sing, as soon as you hear the song you should think of your wife, your children, your country, the world, and even God. Then, everything is complete. Birds only think of birds themselves, but people have a sense of being in relationships. Having that sense of relationship as a mediator between the animal world, plant world, and the spirit world is an exclusive privilege of human beings. We can link everything together. Only human beings have this special authority. (131-125, 1984.4.22)

As they matured, Adam and Eve would have come to understand their purpose, saying, "Ah, that's how to make love." God laid out the world of all things as a textbook for bringing the ideal of human love to maturity. As they continued to learn, as they grew, Adam and Eve would come to have different feelings toward each other, saying, "Aha, we were like a brother and sister in the past, but now it seems..." They will learn, saying, "Aha, that's the way it is." They will go along a straight line and then collide, saying, "You and I must meet even at the risk of death. We cannot go anywhere else." (137-59, 1985.12.18)

Prayer: Please grant that we may enter the world of love

Beloved Father! Countless events occur in the flow of history, none of them without a relationship to Your providence. We did not know that in the course to overcome what was aligned with Satan within the history of sorrow, there was a destined path of restoration through which the walls of the individual, family, tribe, people, nation, world, and cosmos had to be torn down. Our Unification Church members have come to know that for restoration to come about and tear down these walls, we should develop a realm of heart such that ideal love can begin to flow through this world -- a world in which the seeds of fallen love were sown and have taken root.

Jesus, who came with this heart, taught us that members of our own household would be our enemies. He also proclaimed that we are not his disciples unless we love him more than anyone else, and that anyone who does not deny himself, carry his cross, and follow Jesus is not one with him. He also said that if we do not love our neighbors as ourselves, we cannot be saved. If we are in a position to attend the true Heaven, we know that it is the hope of Heaven and of the Parents that we love the world even more than we love the Parents, because the world is our neighbor.

We know that Heaven loves and desires to establish, as the representative of all the heirs, the filial child who, while attending his or her parents, loves all his or her siblings with a heart of even more love than their filial piety toward their parents. Therefore, with the foundation on which they can sever the root of Satan and put down new roots by loving the True Parents absolutely, all the children of the Unification Church who are here now need to take the position of filial sons and daughters who love humankind more than they love True Parents.

In that way, we will swiftly tear down all the walls that guard Satan's realm of heart in the spirit world and the earthly world. Furthermore, we now proclaim that we will become sons and daughters who are not ashamed to inherit the kingdom of heaven victoriously. Therefore, we earnestly request and desire that You assist us not to be lazy in training ourselves, so that we can deserve to receive Your blessing.

We have clearly understood that a person who does not love True Parents and the world cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, for this endeavor, we need to take a position from which we can love and absorb everything, even if Satan's world opposes us. We know that our efforts will not be sufficient unless we accomplish that. Therefore, we earnestly request that, as You test and assess whether or not we have become such people, You enable us to fulfill, with an unchanging heart, the duties of heart, loyalty and filial piety through Home Church.

We clearly know that only the person who has accomplished this is the final victor who can participate in the final glory with the right of inheritance based on complete love. Such a person stands in a position to be blessed. Please bless us to be able to sacrifice everything and dash forward along that path.

Thank You for instituting this day. We earnestly hope and pray that our ancestors in the spirit world and people on earth may climb over the wall dividing them. We also pray that all spirits in the spirit world may receive the benefit of returning resurrection and thus be liberated from all their sorrows. In this manner, according to their spiritual status, may they directly descend to earth on the religious foundation of their descendants and fulfill their promises. To enable them to do so, Father, please enforce the merit of the age. Command them to act on their promises, and bless them that they may follow the one way that leads to the world of love.

We thank You for this hour of grace You have granted us, and we humbly pray all these things in the name of True Parents. Aju!

The Relationship between People on Earth and the Spirits

There is a wall between the way religions must go and the way the ordinary world must go. How can unbelievers harmonize themselves with believers, and how can believers make harmony among themselves in the age at the end of the century? Without resolving this problem, humankind will be divided in two and become unable to enter a new unified world.

If these two factions were to enter one world, that would result in a divided world, and this cannot be the ideal of the absolute God. I consider that since the ideal world of God can only be one, the two divisions cannot both enter there. The way to solve this problem cannot be found in complicated global affairs. The problem is how one can discover the self that will unify the mind and body and leap toward the goal.

Starting from the idea that religious and world unity must come from myself, the question of what the Unification Church is trying to do today comes to the forefront. It is not a religion just for the sake of religion. It should achieve solidarity with the world, finding ways that religious activity can be accompanied by social activity; it should find ways the world is seeking the religious path and bring the two into oneness. A big wall lies across here blocking religion and society from becoming one – for individuals, families, peoples, nations, the world, and even the cosmos.

Where do we start from to demolish this wall? Where did the trouble start? Not from the end of the world, but from the individual. Because individuals got out of order, mind and body came apart and pursued their own separate purposes in different directions. What is the issue here? It is how to merge, weave, combine, and melt different purposes into one, and then how to reintegrate mind and body.

Since God and Satan exist, they are at work. Until now, God has been guiding the providence of restoration and the providence of seeking truth to save humankind. Contrary to this, Satan is opposing God's providence. On the side of goodness and after setting one ideal world in the direction of His providence, God is driving toward that purpose, distinguishing daily between right and wrong. On the other hand, the evil god Satan is twisting humankind in the opposite direction while telling them not to go that way.

At each border and wall, God is twisting people's arms and saying, "Don't go over the wall. Turn right!" and Satan is also twisting their arms and saying, "Turn left!" This is how we are being divided. Our movement to go right resulted in the right wing, and the result of moving leftward globally is the left wing. Now we are faced with the historical age at the end of the century having right and left wings. This is the visible result of the struggle between mind and body.

Then, the question is how to create oneness. By uniting the world, the nation, the tribe and the family, does the individual become united? No. It must start from an individual.

So, setting aside the world, we must create a movement which can bring about unity within the individuals. A movement that can connect the present day real world to religion, and connect religion to the real world, thereby, becoming individuals that both sides can accept.

The problem here, however, is that evil spirits are dominating the body. Evil spirits are rooted in the body and good spirits in the mind. From this comes the division of materialism and idealism. The things that people talk about in this world do not just spring up like that. As the time approaches, sinners should confess their sins. They should come clean about who they are.

Whether we achieve unity on earth is decided by the testimonies of the good and evil spirits on the global level. Good and evil spirits are fighting on that level. Although we cannot observe it or feel that, we are a part of that.

Opening the Gate of Heaven

Why did the Day of the Opening of the Gate of Heaven come into being? Adam and Eve erred but God took full responsibility. By inheriting the responsibility from God, I have to open the gate. He must open the gates for individuals, families, and tribes as well. All those gates have been blocked. The gates for races, nations and the world have also been blocked. They must all be opened. I am seeking to open those blocked gates through Unification Church families.

God's strategy is to prepare small things for the sake of recovering bigger things. From the individual through the family, tribe, people, nation, world, and cosmos and even to the afterlife, they have been blocked by heaven and hell. Because of who are they blocked? Had Adam and Eve become true parents, this could have been one world, but because of the emergence of false parents through the Fall, heaven and hell have been blocked. Who should break down this historic wall of bitter grief? The True Parents of humankind. It's not something they are doing vested with kingship on a throne.

People are living in hell on earth, and spirits are suffering in hell in the spirit world. The gate of hell on earth and the gate of hell in the spirit world must be opened. Through these gates a pathway must be connected leading from the individual to the nation and world on earth. Then there must be a connection leading from the earth to the spirit world. It must connect to that single pathway that leads to the mainstream. Your mind and body must become one. With that level of oneness, there must be no barriers blocking your path as you pass through the family and tribe. From that level you transcend the race, nation and world to the spirit world. Everything must be broken down.

The final problem is opening the blocked spiritual gates of hell and heaven. It is impossible to enter heaven without opening the gates of hell on earth and in the spirit world. Only those who overcome hell can go to heaven. You must overcome not prayer, but God's love. Otherwise, you cannot enter heaven. This is why I paved the way from earth to heaven by opening the gates of hell on earth and in the spirit world, centered on God's love. The name of the International Peace Highway came from this. This is to break down the wall, which has been blocking us. Jesus had the authority of the prince of heaven and God's only begotten son because he was able to love not only the satanic world, but also the spirit world.

Even the spirit world has been entirely blocked by walls. The Buddhist and Confucian realms are entirely blocked by walls. These must be taken down through a higher standard that comes from God's heart.

From the high throne of heaven, work must progress downward having all the walls broken down. Starting with the walls of our ancestors of ten thousand years ago, a thousand years ago, several hundred years ago and those of the people who passed a few years ago, all must be broken down. Also the walls on earth must be removed as well, and a way to connect this to hell must be paved. Otherwise, the gates of heaven cannot be opened.

Had there been no Fall, people who went to the spirit world would have been able to enter heaven by connecting with the core of God's love and True Parents' love. Instead, our journey to heaven has been deferred because throughout history, nobody had been able to attain that bond. People have become stranded in hell and paradise, which is why heaven has been empty.

The people to enter heaven first must be the True Parents. If I were to say that heaven is empty, people would think I am demented, yet even Jesus could not enter heaven. One cannot go there alone. Our original ancestors should have grown through adolescence, established the ideal of love centered on God, become parents and bequeathed the seeds of true love. Then, the first place they entered would have been heaven. As yet, there have been no parents centered on God's love who were able to bequeath the seeds of true love and thus no foundation of leaving behind such descendants. Heaven, thus, is empty.

If we want to go to heaven, we must pass through and conquer hell. The conquerors of hell go to heaven. Having surmounted hell, they are on the roadside leading to heaven, and that place is paradise.

Look at humankind as one man and one woman. If there are four billion people, you should think, "Half of humankind's four billion people are men and the other two billion people are women. That constitutes a man with two billion cells and a woman with two billion cells. With that mind, I will love those two people." You have to think that way. God is planting those four billion people to engage in the work of re-creating Adam and Eve.

That means that God chooses one representative man from among the two billion men and one representative woman from among the two billion women to be His first loves. These representatives will be seen as the fruit of the love of humanity. You should be resolved to loving that entity which is the fruit of the love of two billion people more than the father and mother who gave birth to you. Then you become someone who can love the four billion people more than your father and mother. At that point, you will have nothing to do with Satan because you will be totally one with the realm of God's love. You will then be in the position of loving humanity in oneness with God.

Those representatives are the True Father and True Mother. If you have the heart to love humankind more than the True Parents, everything will be okay. The gates of hell in the spirit world and on earth will be opened. Wherever such a person goes, it will be a highway. But then, you will have to pay for the gasoline.

In the original world, angels are to lead the way to heaven, not True Parents. It is not the Principle to have the True Parents lead you. They paved the way and you are destined to follow it if you love them. While following this path, in the position of loving the True Parents, and loving humankind more than the True Parents, everything will go well. No way would be blocked. There would be no alleys. We are going along the mainstream of heart, which directly connects to the highway. Thus, we can go directly from the earth to heaven.

With regard to this world, there are two kinds of people, men and women. We are entering the realm of heart, the heart that loves the parents, which transcends the satanic world. If you have made bad conditions in front of True Parents, then you have to go that way again. Throughout my life, as a parent, I have taken responsibility to prepare the way for my children to go. If you stand in the place where you love humanity with the same heart as you love the True Parents, you will become one with the True Parents and stand in the same line horizontally with True Parents. If you do this, Satan cannot influence you, because the realm of fallen heart will be below you. You can connect to heaven directly. To commence this work, I declared the Day of the Opening of the Gate of Heaven.

On earth, True Parents have prepared the highway and brought the victorious power of heaven and passed it on to you. In that very place where you inherit that power, you must plant God's love in your mind and body and become one with True Parents Then Satan cannot separate you from God.

What will happen to you? Together with me, you who represent the world have been restoring Cain's sons and daughters. If you too have the heart to love the world more than the True Parents, nothing evil can block your way to God's Kingdom, whether on earth or in heaven.

You start from the earth and then can go beyond the world and the spirit world directly to heaven. Yet if you cannot do it, your way will pass through so many high and steep mountains. Knowing this, I dedicated my life up to now to prepare the way. Since I gave you the privilege today to attend the Day of the Opening of the Gate of Heaven, please, become the victors who can pass through safely and attain that realm of heart without fail.
