Communication Is Vital

At this time, we are in dire need of communication; communication: sincere and honest communication, responsible communication. I always emphasize unity. If there are obstacles on the path to a united world, you must tell the truth through communication.

The path we must take is already decided. The goal is clear. You only have to follow and be a part of the providential history centering on True Parents. Yet when people start to look at the outer world they all say, My country is best; the world must unite centering on my country.

The world is becoming harder to unite. However, as long as God lives, the fallen world will not have its way.

All the people and nations of today need to become acutely aware of the new era. They must understand why all these unpredictable issues are happening in the world.

Even Korea is aching from illness. Due to climate change, we are suffering a drought when we should be getting a lot of rain during our rainy season. The countries that are doing well only seem to be doing well; but one by one problems are arising. The whole world is anxious about whether Greece will survive. You must awaken to what the original mind wants and let it be known. We need to light lamps even in dark places in the world and let people there know that the parents who can solve all their problems have come. You have to let them know.

This "letting them know" is communication. If those who follow the will communicate loudly and unite, one world, heaven on earth and heaven in heaven, which Heavenly Parent and True Parents have hoped for, will come. We can make this happen with our own hands. Isn't that right?

In spite of that, to my regret, you say that you became aware of the will before others did, you have received the blessing and have done your best. However, those who always live with an awareness of their insufficiency, their irresponsibility and are humble in God's presence are normal people. Whereas, many problems will arise if human beings do as they please. In this time, when this new era, Cheon Il Guk, is opening, between those in the first and second generations beautiful communication should take place. They have to become one.

I do not know how many second-generation members are here right now, but I cannot say that there is a future with only second-generation members. The 7 billion people in the world are all in the realm of the first generation. We need skills and preparation until we can assimilate everyone and embrace them. Nevertheless, if you are to make a deep impression with such a small number, you must unite.

I do not know how many abilities each of you has individually, but there is a limit. Is there even one human being who will follow the omniscient and omnipotent Heavenly Parent? This is even more true of the fallen world. It is the same for blessed families in the Unification Church. Is there anyone who thinks that you are right, that you are honest and that you are perfect in every way?

You are all insufficient. You must unite. It is the same for everyone. Spoken broadly, there cannot be dogmatism in any institution, organization or church. You should be able to develop greatly by communicating, harmonizing and uniting with each other, but you are unable to do so. You cannot even have a conversation if just one corner is blocked. Both sides must lay down everything in order to communicate.

First-generation members that are in the position of elder brothers or sisters need to establish themselves and grow into capable individuals with broad hearts. They cannot grow into a minister in one morning. We need time. In this moment, we need time. We cannot argue over right and wrong when it is hard to immerse ourselves in just one thing. Do you understand?

Hence, I am trying to organize a bit. The Wonmo Pyeongae Foundation… Who is the president? They are investing billion won in scholarships to raise many talented individuals. They need to be raised twentyfour hours a day within a fence so that they can grow beautifully and decently. In order for one life form to be born, it needs a period of ten months in its mother's womb. Can this baby, which was born through a ten-month period, walk in the space of one morning?

Again, they need time. Now as the Wonmo Pyeongae Foundation has built up its system perfectly on all the active, scientific, and psychological sides, I cannot be satisfied with some event held however many times a year in order to raise those students that have been given the opportunity. Thus, I am saying that it must change. In addition, Korea, Japan and the United States, which are the central nations of the providence, must participate together.

I appoint Yeon Ah (Lee) Moon (wife of Hyung Jin Moon) as the president [of Wonmo Pyeongae Foundation]. Please give her a round of applause. We are not doing this just because we have a lot of money, are we? This is really from True Parents' blood, sweat and tears.

How many tears have been shed in order to provide these offerings? In reality, how many have there been? This is not something that we can sit at a desk and say, "They are doing good things. Let's just share." In the world and in major companies like Samsung, they raise scholarship students and make them their own people.

There is this contract where they have to volunteer at their company for some time after they graduate. So they make them their own people, right? However, we made a lot of effort in the past but I do not think it will be effective. Therefore, with a new system, I will observe and communicate with a heart of a mother so that I can promise the future.

Also, because it is difficult for Moon Yeon Ah on her own and because she has to take care of her responsibilities as the international president of the Women's Federation, the chairmen should actively support her and raise funds.

Because I have promised True Father something, I am giving a little bit of his seed money, but we cannot keep using it up every year, right? In addition, we need to help so many second- and third-generation members. They are our hope for the future. You need to educate these children and make them the best in the world. You need to raise them as leaders. You do not know how important this is. I am going to put an emphasis on this. Do you understand?

Is Gyeong Deuk Yu here? I appoint Gyeong Deuk Yu as the Wonmo Pyeongae Foundation secretary general. From today, you will need to research how to raise these children that are receiving scholarships and develop research to cultivate talented individuals of the future.

Moreover, if there is a child that needs to be specially raised, I will even send him or her to study abroad in order to do so. You need to be good at this. I will work on this through the board of directors. Do not work on this independently, but report to me. Okay?

I have also thought about whether putting the Sunhak Peace Prize within the Wonmo Pyeongae Foundation would better attend True Father. Thus, the members in the United States associated with the Sunkak Peace Prize began an organization and have registered it as a non-profit foundation in the United States. Is this correct? [Yes.] I think that it should be detached from Wonmo and be managed by Cheon Jeong Won. The international president, Sun Jin Moon, as the president, will be given a team to manage and develop this. It will also require raising funds.

I think that it is better for the FFWPU International Headquarters to manage this because we are searching for global people. Don't they know the whole world? The headquarters knows it.

Thus, I want vice–president Jun Seok An, from the world missions headquarters to put the secretarygeneral's office and the Institute for the Development and Cultivation of Individuals and Planning of Strategies for the Future on the same level. [Jun Seok An is the new name Mother gave Young Shik An, who was until recently the Europe Region President]

I am going to get rid of the position of the headquarters' president and making it a secretary-general. I am going to use Seong Il Cho as the secretary-general. Is Seong Il Cho here? Give him a round of applause. Now by separating all whose heads that were too big, Wonmo, Sunhak Peace Prize, and the world missions headquarters should to go forward by uniting and communicating with each other and speaking in one place when they have something to discuss. True Father also hopes for this at the third anniversary of his ascension. When we become one, amazing power that we cannot even imagine will help us.

You all have good fortune because you could meet me. I tell you that it depends on how you do. Do you know how much force a single word from me has in the next world? Do you know or not? [We know.] How much do you feel this in your lives? It is the same for Japanese members. They only want to hear about my reports. All the people of the world are like this. They only want to hear about me. They are only interested in how True Mother is, in what she is doing, and in what she likes. Nevertheless, this is not my personal desire when I say that I want to accept you, so go forward and unite. It actually means that I want to take you all together with me. When will there be such a time to be as grateful as this? Think about it. The two-thousand-year history of Christianity was dragged forward in an environment where there was nothing, in such a bloody evil cycle.

In short, we have produced many cultural assets that could not be done through the strength of human beings. However, we achieved that much of a culture even in a situation where the mind and body were disunited and where the priest and believers; and the country and the politicians were not united. In that case, at this point, when we unite and establish a goal even when we have no country or possessions, and when we do our best to reach that goal, how will future generations evaluate us?

A culture that everyone can be a part of regardless of gender or age… You will be happy even when you are thinking random thoughts, and when you are putting on your clothes in the morning you will wonder what True Father's expression will be like when he sees you wearing those clothes. Thinking of True Parents twenty-four hours a day... Isn't this our own inherent and special culture of heart? You can cover all faults with overflowing and living true love.

I told you that the door has been opened in all areas. Not anyone can do that. No one but I can do it.

You Must Now Soar

This is the message True Mother gave on June 22, 2015 at a hoondokhae breakfast meeting at Cheon Jeong Gung. (Published in True Peace magazine July 2015 issue)

With the third anniversary of True Father’s seonghwa coming up, the purpose of this meeting is to think about how we will achieve mind–body unity and how all our churches and organizations can become one so that we can return success to God, respond with determination to God and start on a fresh footing.

This is a new era

Even though I have toured Europe and the United States, the external environment is becoming more difficult for humankind. Throughout the world, aren’t there concerns about whether the earth can endure into the future in a healthy state?

True Parents have opened a new era. You are in blessed families that need to settle the Cheon Il Guk era, which exceeds the two thousand years of Christian history, by quickly making True Parents’ achievements known to the world.

Leaders’ devotion and abilities must cause them to succeed at once. You cannot keep wasting time, saying, That is enough for now, that’s enough for today, or let’s do it the day after tomorrow if we cannot do it tomorrow.

What is more, you will say that you have done your best in the positions you have held until now. However, from God’s standpoint those are very weak statements. The sixty-first anniversary of the founding of our church has just passed. If looked at in terms of human age, it is a sixty year old. How much of a foundation have you built to be able to show something to the world? In short, your record is more shameful than glorious.

Are you just going to sit here at a standstill? You have to leap. You have to soar. To do this, you need to unite. You have to cooperate. You should not make excuses anymore. Do not make the excuse that it is too hard.

You should be positive: I can do it. I just have to do it! I did it! You need to make a habit of this attitude.

The status of the Unification Church has soared all around the world. It is different from the past. Through today’s hoondokhae, I know that you have already been reminded once, but if Jesus, who had come as the Messiah, as the only begotten son of God, had met the only begotten daughter of God, the Israelites would have prepared a national foundation.

In that sense, as leaders, as blessed members that have received the blessing by True Parents’ grace, have your actions restored the nation? If you feel sorry to True Father, shouldn’t you do your duty toward True Mother, who is on earth? When you do, there is a future for the Unification Church and Unificationist families. The Christian culture took two thousand years. Shouldn’t we be different? This is providential history, which has supported the substantial True Parents. If you live one day as if it were a thousand years, nothing is impossible.

In Las Vegas, I told them to liberate their ancestors. What I meant is that we need to establish a foundation, an environment for True Father, so that he can work in the spirit world. No matter whether he is the absolute being or the king of kings, he cannot let his status be known without citizens to do activities. There should be citizens. The spirit world was darkened by its relationship with Satan over the past six thousand years. By liberating, blessing and educating your ancestors, the path to a good spirit world will open. This will expand the environment in which True Father can work.

The history of civilization is the same. Many conveniences make life more comfortable and faster, save time and space and contribute to civilization. By utilizing these to their utmost, we should teach pitiable human beings about True Parents. You should let them know, “True Parents have come as pioneers and have worked for humankind. Thus, they have opened Cheon Il Guk. You all have the opportunity to become citizens of Cheon Il Guk. Come!”

We have sent missionaries to many countries all over the world, but in reality many countries still have not accepted the Family Federation or the Unification Church. Even Europe is still like that. I know that it has been difficult for members because it is where the Christian culture originated and we have received great opposition there.

However, this is a new era. The Christian culture is of the past. Currently, there is no other path to the future but us. We need to teach this.

Among the regional leaders here, some have traveled as much as four or five hours. We can act on all the ways to lessen distance and time. We can make that happen. Isn’t that so?

We need to have a system that can educate the whole world about True Parents at once. We need to make it one system. In order to do this substantially, the Cheon Il Guk Media Committee should unite with the FFWPU International Headquarters and lead the global providence. For this, we need the right people. We need brains. Thus, we will have a World Missions Strategy and Training Institute at the mission headquarters.

I know that within the association, organizations are being made. Also, PeaceTV is providing much grace to members through the Weekly Updates. We are in the position to design the past, present and future. In order to do this, we should study, develop and advance these under one system. Do you understand?

The word, the Principle, is important in raising a human being. Those who do not grow up with the Principle will bend here and there depending on the situation or environment, like a wavering reed. Yet, those who know the Principle do not waver.

What is at the center of the Principle? True Parents! A great gap exists between the first generation and the second generation. In this state, you cannot take responsibility for the past, present or future. Therefore, what is it that I stressed first at True Father’s ascension? I stressed church innovation through the spirit and the truth! Cultivate competent individuals and educate those in our second generation! Isn’t that right? In addition, there are the Three Great Scriptures, which is the center for our Unificationists.

Chambumo Gyeong is to be completed in Korean and English by the third anniversary of the seonghwa. I did everything I could for you. What more is there?

Life-guiding textbooks

The earth, which God created, has caught the measles. It is sick. That is why climate change is occurring.

How about the Korean Peninsula? This country, which used to have clear distinctions between the four seasons is turning into a subtropical region. If this happens, it will destroy nature.

Many different types of trees will become sick. What tree represents the ten traditional Symbols of Longevity in Korea? It the pine tree, isn’t it? Pine trees are sick too. Will we just watch this happen? I think we should research the idea of changing the type of trees that can take root in the Cheongshim complex.

I am quite weary. All parents in the world feel weary if they have many children, right? Just as God originally created, shouldn’t we protect the original Garden of Eden? If you do not protect it and keep it steady through everything, from one to ten, it will not do well. Thus, would this make one comfortable or weary? You need to grow as a pious child centered on the past, as a pious child centered on the present, and then as a pious son, daughter, and loyal subject centered on the future. Do you have this mindset?

(At yesterday’s meeting, I heard Chairman Choi of our organization talking about the development of the Catholic Church, but those people do not have life. They may gather people, but that is of the past. That church does not give life.) You are True Parents’ church, which will open the path to living as true children of our Heavenly Parent. You are in a position where neither heaven nor earth can replace you. This is a blessed position.

You all have the power to turn muddy water into pure, clear water. Shouldn’t such people change now? It is no longer, “Done yesterday, done today.” Do you understand? I hope you all become people I can remember before I go to the spirit world. The thing that you can boast of to the world or to the spirit world is how much you have a good standard in front of True Parents. There are no families that True Father remembers.

Results are important. Your remaining time on earth is important. I hope that you can make decisions and resolutions here./

The leaders’ devotion and abilities must cause them to succeed at once. You can’t keep wasting time, saying that’s enough for now, that’s enough for today or let’s do it the day after if we can’t do it tomorrow. The 61st anniversary of the founding of our church has just passed. If you look at it as a human age, it is a 60-year old. How much of a foundation have you prepared to show something to the world? In order to become brothers and sisters, you need to humble yourself. And only when you have the mindset to live for their sake can you become one. In that sense, you should empty your mind. How will you hold more than 100%, 120% of heavenly parent’s and True Parents hearts?

True Parents led the 6,000-year providential history of restoration through indemnity to the victory that heaven has worked for. Providential history gave birth to True Parents. It has been carried out all throughout the world. When are you going to do your duty, which the heavenly realm and this country longs for? When are you going to fulfill it? You shouldn't make excuses anymore? Don’t make the excuse that it’s too hard. You should be positive. “I can do it. I just have to do it! I did it!” You need to make a habit of this attitude. Think about it in relation to the Third Seonghwa anniversary.

When we do, there is a future for the Unification Church and blessed families.

What hurts me is the great gap between the 1st generation and the 2nd generation. In this state you can’t take responsibility for the past present or future. Therefore, what is it that I stressed first at True Father’s ascension? Church innovation through the spirit and truth. Cultivate competent individuals and educate our 2nd generation! Isn’t that right?

In addition, there are Three Great Scriptures which is the center for our Unificationist families. Chambumo Gyeong will be completed in Korean and English by the Third anniversary of True Father Seonghwa. I did everything I could for you. What more is there? Thus, the result, the fruit of a victorious past, present and future is the completion of Heavenly Parent’s ideal of creation. What is one world attending Heavenly Parent, one human family? It is heaven on earth.

I placed Sun Jin Moon as International President and appointed In sup Park as Vice President. However, in reality, on the administrative side they aren’t able to work for 24 hours straight. Thus, I decide to assign an international Vice President. Centered on the Vice President I plan to have the International Headquarters become a research development institute to build a new system, study and develop it. And give substantial and realistic support and educational materials so that all members and Unification churches in the world can reveal themselves confidently on their own will to the world. Do you agree? (Yes) I said this earlier; I will cultivate all individuals that have potential.

In conclusion, this is for your sake and for the sake of humankind. I’m explaining this to you to request that we advance by newly developing media videos, collect them in one place and move forward together with the world. Rather than advancing from Korea divided lets unite as one. Whether though news and witnessing methods for the future or cultural activities I will lead you together as global citizens who share these with one another.

Throughout True Father's life, he spoke a lot. Yet we were unable to put those words into scripture and only put them in the Divine Principle. I was so sorry… that I quickly organized his words into Pyeong Hwa Gyeong without even perfecting it. I was unable to put them into the Cheon Seong Gyeong.

You are the textbooks of True Parents which will open the path to live as True Children of Heavenly Parent. You are in the position where you can’t even be replaced by heaven and earth. This is a blessed position. You all have the power to turn muddy water into pure clear water. Shouldn’t such people change now? It is no longer done yesterday, done today. Do you understand?

From now on, I will whip you through the International Headquarters. I will make it like this. Are you going to do this? I hope you all become people I can remember before I go to the spirit world. Come!” We have sent missionaries to many countries all over the world, but in reality many countries still have not accepted the Family Federation or the Unification Church. Even Europe is still like that. I know that it has been difficult for members because it is where the Christian culture originated and we have received great opposition there.

However, this is a new era. The Christian culture is of the past. Currently, there is no other path to the future but us. We need to teach this. Among the regional leaders here, some have traveled as much as four or five hours. We can act on all the ways to lessen distance and time. We can make that happen. Isn’t that so?

We need to have a system that can educate the whole world about True Parents at once. We need to make it one system. In order to do this substantially, the Cheon Il Guk Media Committee should unite with the FFWPU International Headquarters and lead the global providence. For this, we need the right people. We need brains. Thus, we will have a World Missions Strategy and Training Institute at the mission headquarters.

I know that within the association, organizations are being made. Also, PeaceTV is providing much grace to members through the Weekly Updates. We are in the position to design the past, present and future. In order to do this, we should study, develop and advance these under one system.

Do you understand?

The word, the Principle, is important in raising a human being. Those who do not grow up with the Principle will bend here and there depending on the situation or environment, like a wavering reed. Yet, those who know the Principle do not waver.

What is at the center of the Principle?

True Parents! A great gap exists between the first generation and the second generation. In this state, you cannot take responsibility for the past, present or future. Therefore, what is it that I stressed first at True Father’s ascension?

I stressed church innovation through the spirit and the truth! Cultivate competent individuals and educate those in our second generation! Isn’t that right? In addition, there are the Three Great Scriptures, which is the center for our Unificationists. Chambumo Gyeong is to be completed in Korean and English by the third anniversary of the Seonghwa. I did everything I could for you. What more is there?

Life-guiding textbooks

The earth, which God created, has caught the measles. It is sick. That is why climate change is occurring.

How about the Korean Peninsula? This country, which used to have clear distinctions between the four seasons is turning into a subtropical region. If this happens, it will destroy nature.

Many different types of trees will become sick. What tree represents the ten traditional Symbols of Longevity in Korea? It the pine tree, isn’t it? Pine trees are sick too. Will we just watch this happen? I think we should research the idea of changing the type of trees that can take root in the Cheongshim complex.

I am quite weary. All parents in the world feel weary if they have many children, right? Just as God originally created, shouldn’t we protect the original garden of Eden? If you do not protect it and keep it steady through everything, from one to ten, it will not do well. Thus, would this make one comfortable or weary? You need to grow as a pious child centered on the past, as a pious child centered on the present, and then as a pious son, daughter, and loyal subject centered on the future. Do you have this mind-set?

(At yesterday’s meeting, I heard Chairman Choi of our organization talking about the development of the Catholic Church, but those people do not have life. They may gather people, but that is of the past. That church does not give life.) You are True Parents’ church, which will open the path to living as true children of our Heavenly Parent. You are in a position where neither heaven nor earth can replace you. This is a blessed position. You all have the power to turn muddy water into pure, clear water.

Shouldn’t such people change now? It is no longer, “Done yesterday, done today.” Do you understand? I hope you all become people I can remember before I go to the spirit world. The thing that you can boast of to the world or to the spirit world is how much you have a good standard in front of True Parents. There are no families that True Father remembers.

Results are important. Your remaining time on earth is important. I hope that you can make decisions and resolutions here.

As the True Parents who have received the mission of God, and as the only begotten daughter of God, I will spread the True Family movement for the salvation of humankind.”

On May 11th, Family Federation for World Peace and Unification Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon met with the Monthly JoongAng in Vienna, Austria, to speak with us about “The Path to Peace through the Completion of the Family.” The term “only begotten daughter” was adapted from the phrase “only begotten son,” which was used to describe Jesus as God’s only son. Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon are referred to as the only begotten son and daughter of God within the Family Federation.

This is the first time that Dr. Han has agreed to a press interview. Although many requests have been made for interviews with Dr. Han during the event of Family Federation’s “50th Anniversary European Movement”, our interview with her lasted only about 20 minutes. Dr. Han was accompanied in her interview by Family Federation International President Sun Jin Moon, International Vice President In-Sup Park, Women’s Federation for World Peace International President Yeon-Ah Moon, FFWPU

Dr. Han seemed to us more like a benevolent mother than a charismatic religious leader. Although it was her first interview, she responded to difficult questions with laughter, and to religious questions with strength and grace. We were awestruck by her attentiveness to answer every question in the short time she was able to spend with us. The interview is published below.

JoongAng: Thank you for agreeing to an interview with us.

True Mother: “This is both my first time meeting a reporter and my first time serving tea.” (Laughs)

I hear that you are in the middle of a world tour. How is your health?

“I am very tired (laughs). However, some members traveled for 32 hours to listen to my message, so I cannot help but feel energized when I think of them. It is so meaningful to be able to fulfill a true family and teach about true love.”

The events will be held in Austria, Germany and England. Is there a particular reason for your attendance of the event in Austria?

“I have returned to Austria for the first time in 19 years. Rev. Sun Myung Moon began evangelism in Europe in 1965. At the time, Eastern Europe was under Communist rule, and there was no religious freedom, so all of our evangelism was carried out underground. At that time, Austria was a neutral state, so we were able to establish a witnessing advancement center there. After our event in Austria, we are flying to the United States.”

You are on a tight schedule for many days. How are you taking care of your health?

“I take a lot of walks.”

I saw that many Unification second generation youth attended the event.

“I hear that a lot of young people joined the European church recently. They are actively working together with our second generation in many fields.”

After Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s death, Dr. Han has focused on fostering talent and increasing the congregation.

Dr. Han has also eliminated some businesses and enterprises in order to better concentrate on church growth. She temporarily postponed the Peace Cup, an international club soccer tournament which requires about 15 to 20 billion won each year in maintenance. She also entrusted the management of the North Korean investment projects (Peace Motors and the Potonggang Hotel), which Rev. Moon put a lot of focus on during his life, to North Korea.

In exchange, Dr. Han has been enthusiastically investing all of her efforts into fostering the next generation of leaders and Unification Church evangelism. New church centers have been established in Incheon and Daegu region, and greater focus is being put into church growth. As a result, since the Rev. Moon’s Seonghwa in 2012, about 30 new churches have been established, bringing the total number of churches in Korea to over 230. She also newly established the “Wonmo Pyeongae Foundation,” a scholarship organization worth 100 billion won, and the Universal Peace Academy. She established the million-dollar Sunhak Peace Prize as well, with plans to announce its first recipient this year.

While Rev. Sun Myung Moon focused mainly on peace movements, you have concentrated more on church growth. Could you explain your reasoning behind this decision?

“I would like to finish all of [Rev. Moon’s] work. However, there is an order of priority that needs to be followed. I decided that the most important thing for this world, in which conflict begets conflict, was the spread of the true family. The completion of the family is crucial. My mission is to expand the teachings of the providence of restoration, which professes the fulfillment of the true family through the blessing of True Parents.”

What is the purpose of your focus on fostering young talent and the establishment of the Sunhak Peace Prize?

“I think of the seven billion people of the world as my own children. I want to guide them. I plan to do my utmost to save all of humankind and create a peaceful world through the fostering of leaders and projects such as the Sunhak Peace Prize.”

On June 8th, the three candidates (individuals or organizations) for the first Sunhak Peace Prize will be announced. The awards ceremony will be held in Seoul on August 28th. “The first recipient will most likely be someone in the field of environment preservation,” said a Family Federation recipient. “Whether the award will go to an individual or be split between and organization and an individual is up to the award council.”

Dr. Han, who manages a close relationship with North Korea and several businesses in the nation, was invited by Chairman of the National Defense Kim Jong Un in 2012, around the same time as Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s Seonghwa (passing). However, she has not yet been able to follow through on the invitation.

You were invited to visit North Korea. Do you have any plans to visit in the future?

“Nothing is impossible for me to live for the sake of the nation and the world. However, I am waiting to get the timing right. If it is for the sake of peace and unification between North and South Korea, I would like to visit North Korea. I hope to give you some good news regarding the matter shortly.”

Before our interview, Dr. Hak Ja Han gave the keynote address at the “The UN at 70: Toward a Resolution of Tensions on the Korean Peninsula” conference held at 2:00 PM in the UN Office in Vienna, Austria. “This year marks the 70th anniversary of many historical milestones: the restoration of Korean independence, the establishment of the United Nations and the end of World War II. The United Nations has led the way over the last 70 years in the path towards peace, and yet we still have been unable to establish peace or a world of freedom,” said Dr. Han. She then warned the UN that they needed to “change their mindset in order to continue for another 70 years.” “If all of humankind attends God as their parent, it will be impossible for dispute to exist between nations, races and religions. I hope that the UN can lead the way in making this possible.” She continued, “I hope that all of you can help us not only to solve the problems of the Korean Peninsula, but to transform it into a region of peace.”

Family Federation for World Peace and Unification Holds Celebration of 50 Years of European Evangelism Yesterday and Today

The fruits of the European underground evangelism movement after 50 years … The family is the central and driving force of the Unification Principle.

The organization carved a place for itself through interreligious and peace movements. This year marks 50 years since the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification began evangelism in Europe, the “Capital of Christianity.” The Family Federation worked for half a century through hardship and suffering to make their way into the hearts of the European people. The central teaching of their movement is the preciousness of the family and the construction of world peace through true love.

It is 9:00 AM on May 10th at the Austria Center in Vienna, Austria. The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (Unification Church, hereafter referred to as Family Federation) has gathered to celebrate 50 Years of Evangelism in Europe. The entrances to the center were bustling with people even an hour before the event. Dozens of tour buses arrived bearing hundreds of people, and long lines formed in front of the registration tables. “The event venue was too small for us to be able to invite all of our members,” said one Family Federation representative. “Some of the participants today drove for 32 hours to be here.”

The 2nd floor of the center was alive with a bustling heat. The auditorium was completely filled for the event before the ceremony. The host organization estimated the total amount of participants to be around 3,000 members, current and former politicians and ambassadors for peace from 35 nations, including Austria, Germany, England, the United States, Japan and Africa.

As the main event began, a video about Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon began playing on the central screen, and the voices of members praying could be heard here and there throughout the venue. The peak of the event was the entrance of Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon. As she received the enthusiastic support of the European members, she expressed her affection for Europe through her lecture from the platform.

“I feel as if I have come to visit my son or daughter, who I married off 50 years ago,” she opened. She then spoke about the salvation of humankind and God’s providence of restoration. “It takes about 15 years for an olive tree to put down roots in the infertile soil of Israel, but it lives for over 2,000 years,” said Dr. Han. “I hope that after 50 years of putting down your roots, Europe as well will be able to become a pivotal continent in the mission of fulfilling God’s providence of restoration. “I hope that today, which marks the 50th anniversary of evangelism in Europe, you can light a new beacon fire for your continent. Please become proud sons and daughters, who can lead the way in constructing the nation of God representing true parents, and shake and wake up the Christian people of your continent who are still living in the Old Testament Age.”

On May 14th, at the Limburg an der Lahn Hessen City Hall in Germany, the “50th Anniversary European Movement German Celebration” was held to a crowd of about 800 Family Federation members. On this day’s event, Family Federation International President Sun Jin Moon, who was recently appointed this March, and is currently carrying out a world tour, gave the keynote address. “Europe needs to establish an eternal legacy of true love and goodness upon the foundation of Christianity, which has played a pivotal role in the providence of God,” she said.

Limburg an der Lahn is located in Hessen, a small city in Germany with a population of about 30,000 people. The Family Federation explained that they held the German event in such a small city because the city itself played a very significant role in German Christian history. The Limburg Cathedral, built in the late 12th century, was constructed in the late Romanesque style, and bears a deep historical significance. The cathedral is also shown on the German Mark, the former national currency.

The Family Federation explained that the day’s events were especially meaningful as they were in celebration of victory over social persecution and attacks by Communism. The Family Federation was able to put down its roots in Europe, the birthplace of Christianity and Communism, after 50 years of conflict. “Europe, the capital of Christianity, was the promised land to Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, who arrived there in 1965,” said a Family Federation representative. “This is Dr. Han’s first official tour and event in Europe since her husband’s passing, as well as International President Sun Jin Moon’s first international tour. As we meditate upon the accomplishments and teachings of Rev. and Dr. Moon, we hope to remind the European people of the meaning of ‘true families.’”

How was the Family Federation able to grow in Europe, the “Holy Land of Christianity?” It was a 50- year uphill battle that began in 1965, when Rev. and Dr. Moon first visited Europe on their world tour. They visited 16 European nations over 40 days, including Lisbon, Portugal and the Vatican. During the tour, 19 new holy ground sites were established as places to pray for world peace and the salvation of humankind and new European leaders were appointed.

“Rev. Moon emphasized the importance of the European evangelist movement in the Vatican, the symbolic city of Christianity,” explained one representative of the Family Federation.

“In 1965, when Rev. Sun Myung Moon visited the Vatican, he said that ‘The Vatican is the origin of and the place of assembly of European civilization. However, we must unite all of the countless divided denominations and sects and unite them in the way God desires.’ We need interreligious movements in order to unite the religions as one. This is why it was so important for the Family Federation to evangelize Europe, the capital of Christianity.”

The movement in Europe had humble beginnings, as a charity organization rather than a religion. “A lot of very complicated laws regarding religion existed in Europe, so the Unification Church was unable to be recognized as a religion,” reflected Family Federation European Regional President Young-Sik An (58). “We began our evangelist movement in Europe as a non-governmental organization that did service work.”

50 years later, the Unification Church has established about 100 churches in 100 cities throughout 35 European nations. Furthermore, soon Austria will register the Unification Church as an official religion. “Spain was the first nation in Europe to recognize us as an official religion, soon to be followed by Austria,” said Director An. “We plan to continue to expand to other European nations, to spread our name and receive tax support as well.”

How was the Family Federation able to achieve such rapid growth in just 50 years? People both within and outside of the movement believe that the message of Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon matched the climate of Europe at the time of early evangelism. “In the 1960s and 1970s, Europe, America and many other places in the world were thrown into a state of intense cultural shock. While faced with the problems of the Cold War and the Vietnam War, people were unable to distinguish what was truly important and by which principles they should conduct their lives. The hippie culture, in which young people immersed themselves in drugs and alcohol, became very popular at this time. The teachings of Rev. and Dr. Moon were a new beginning for many European youth, who had lost their dreams and hopes at that time. The teachings of purity and family values drew many people to the Unification Church in an era of spiritual chaos, family breakdown and loss of hope for the future,” explained a representative of the Family Federation.

One of the main factors that led to the growth of the Family Federation was the movement for victory over Communism. In 1980, university students of the early Family Federation, known at that time as the Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles(CARP), carried out movements against Communism in Frankfurt, Germany and other major European countries. In France, an opposing group planted a bomb in the CARP office. In 1985, Rev. Moon predicted the fall of the Soviet Union at the Professors for World Peace Academy International Conference, held at the Continental Hotel in Geneva, Switzerland. No one believed his prediction at the time, but four years later, the Soviet Union finally collapsed. In 1987, about 2,000 members of the CARP (an affiliate of the Family Federation) held a march for peace in front of the Berlin Wall, calling for the wall’s destruction and for world peace. It was recorded as the largest-scale international gathering since the construction of the wall.

Rev. Moon also outlined ideological solutions to problems of that time. “Rev. and Dr. Moon pointed out the problems of Marxism and outlined alternative options,” said Continental Regional President Young-Sik An. “Between the 1970s and 1980s, Marxism was very popular among young people in Europe. In order to block the further spread of its popularity, specialists of the time began to point out the shortcomings of Communism, but no one gave an alternate option except for Rev. Moon. He revealed that it needed to be seen as a battle between good and evil, rather than as a battle between classes.

He alluded that God was at the center of goodness and the atheism of Marxism was at the center of evil. Rev. Moon also emphasized that God was not an abstract idea, but rather an actual being. His teachings deeply moved the young people. There is much argument about this topic, but the church regards Rev. Moon’s teachings as a strong factor in foiling the growth of Communism in Europe.”

The “Resurrection of Family Values” movement was carried out on a social level, rather than a religious level, and proposed a moral reform that appealed to young and middle aged Europeans, and revived the true love movement. Out of approximately 25,000 European members, an estimated 60% joined the movement at this time.

“After the Unification Church evangelized Japan, it took on Europe, the center of Christian civilization. Our success in evangelizing the world depended on our success in Europe,” said President No-Hi Pak. “We went through some complications, but in the end, the Family Federation gained a lot of attention for becoming the fastest growing new religion in Europe.”

With Austria as their evangelism advancement base, the Family Federation carried out events in many different nations in Europe, expanded their congregation and succeeded in making their name known throughout the continent.

However, suffering followed their success. In 1995, the German government indicted Rev. Moon and banned him from entering Germany. Due to the Schengen Agreement, if one nation banned a person from entry, all other countries in the treaty needed to follow suit.

The Schengen Agreement was arranged so that all of the immigration laws of the European nations would coincide, making it easier to move between nations without limitations. 25 nations, including those of the European Union and Iceland, Norway and Switzerland, and not including any islands or the United Kingdom, signed the agreement. Participating nations in the treaty had their border inspection offices and checkpoints destroyed, and through obtaining a common Schengen visa, one could move freely between many nations. The agreement did not include citizens living outside the EU or give any person permission to work within the union. The treaty was signed on June 14th, 1985 by Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, on the boat Princess Marie-Astrid, on the Moselle River in the small town of Schengen, Luxembourg, a nation that borders France and Germany

The Family Federation explains that the rapid growth of their congregation, and especially its concentration of young people, aroused suspicion in the Communist nations of Europe. They attribute the prohibition of Rev. Moon’s entry into the continent to this fact. Afterwards, the Family Federation faced persecution from European society.

“The European government banned Rev. Moon from entering the country because of the flame the Unification Church ignited amongst the young people. They said we were creating social chaos, but how can a true love and true family movement possibly create social chaos? It was religious persecution. I believe that the Communist nations of Europe were behind the decision. Perhaps they were becoming uneasy that so many of their young followers were leaving them to follow us, or perhaps it was because of our victory over Communism movement. Eventually, in 2007, the Federal Constitutional Court of Law ruled the German government’s ban of Rev. Moon as unlawful. The 12-year ban was finally lifted,” said Public Relations General Manager Ho-Yeul An. The “Unification Movement” began in earnest throughout Europe in the year 1970. Austria played a particularly pivotal role in the evangelization of Europe. With one word, the underground evangelization of the religiously oppressed, Communist Eastern Europe continued. “Austria played a huge part in our movement to evangelize Europe. At the time of the Cold War, the easiest way to enter into Eastern Europe was through Vienna. Our members, who would go out to witness, would learn German and other European languages and fast and pray all night to prepare,” said a Family Federation representative.

Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon Brings European Revival in 1992

The Family Federation President of Austria, appointed by Rev. and Dr. Moon, witnessed to countless young people, especially many university students from Eastern Europe. As a result, in 1981, about 20 evangelists were able to enter into Vienna. At the time, members from Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, the Soviet Union, East Germany and other Communist nations were risking their lives to carry out underground evangelism activities.

“We called the mission ‘Operation Butterfly.’ The sacrifice of those evangelists, who worked against persecution and surveillance in Communist nations, brought about the eventual democratization of Eastern Europe, and brought Rev. and Dr. Moon’s teachings to the Soviet Union,” said Regional President Young-Sik An. “Though those evangelists worked anonymously in the dark, they will be immortalized throughout Family Federation history.”

In 1992, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon brought about the European revival in earnest. She spread the message of peace and carried out the Women’s Federation for World Peace Foundation Rally, the Proclamation Rally for the Completed Testament Age and the Anniversary Rally for the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, all in consecutive days. Between 1999 and 2000, the True Family World Advancement Rally and the Holy Wedding Ceremony 2nd 40 Years Course Dedication Ceremony were held, and in 2005, the Universal Peace Federation was established in the United States, followed by a European foundation rally.

Dr. Han especially chose Europe as a place to substantiate the Family Federation’s motto to “create a world of peace by bringing nations and religions together,” and as a place of prayer for the success of Vision 2020. The year 2020 marks 100 years since the birth of Rev. Moon and 60 years since his and Dr. Han’s holy wedding. Vision 2020 seeks to create a foundation of support of 10,000,000 followers around the world by that time. In order to carry out this mission, evangelization strategies are being carried out in 43 key nations of the 194 evangelized states of the Unification Church. “After the announcement of Cheon Il Guk Foundation Day in 2013, Dr. Han climbed to the top of 12 mountains in the Swiss Alps, where she poured out her heart in devotion. Her hopes for the salvation of humankind and world peace echoed throughout the Alps, and became the stimulus for the European members to lead the way in the movement for world peace,” said a Family Foundation representative.

The fruits of the last 50 years of the Family Federation in Europe are truly moving, especially when considering the suffering overcome during the years of pioneering. Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon’s teachings about the preciousness of the family and the fulfillment of a peaceful world through true love are at the center of those years of pioneering.

At the time, Eastern Europe was under Communist rule, and there was no religious freedom, so all of our evangelism was carried out underground. At that time, Austria was a neutral state, so we were able to establish a witnessing advancement center there. After our event in Austria, we are flying to the United States.”

You are on a tight schedule for many days. How are you taking care of your health?

“I take a lot of walks.”

I saw that many Unification second generation youth attended the event.

“I hear that a lot of young people joined the European church recently. They are actively working together with our second generation in many fields.”

After Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s death, Dr. Han has focused on fostering talent and increasing the congregation.

Dr. Han has also eliminated some businesses and enterprises in order to better concentrate on church growth. She temporarily postponed the Peace Cup, an international club soccer tournament which requires about 15 to 20 billion won each year in maintenance. She also entrusted the management of the North Korean investment projects (Peace Motors and the Potonggang Hotel), which Rev. Moon put a lot of focus on during his life, to North Korea.

In exchange, Dr. Han has been enthusiastically investing all of her efforts into fostering the next generation of leaders and Unification Church evangelism. New church centers have been established in Incheon and Daegu region, and greater focus is being put into church growth. As a result, since the Rev. Moon’s Seonghwa in 2012, about 30 new churches have been established, bringing the total number of churches in Korea to over 230. She also newly established the “Wonmo Pyeongae Foundation,” a scholarship organization worth 100 billion won, and the Universal Peace Academy. She established the million-dollar Sunhak Peace Prize as well, with plans to announce its first recipient this year.

While Rev. Sun Myung Moon focused mainly on peace movements, you have concentrated more on church growth. Could you explain your reasoning behind this decision?

“I would like to finish all of [Rev. Moon’s] work. However, there is an order of priority that needs to be followed. I decided that the most important thing for this world, in which conflict begets conflict, was the spread of the true family. The completion of the family is crucial. My mission is to expand the teachings of the providence of restoration, which professes the fulfillment of the true family through the blessing of True Parents.”

What is the purpose of your focus on fostering young talent and the establishment of the Sunhak Peace Prize?

“I think of the seven billion people of the world as my own children. I want to guide them. I plan to do my utmost to save all of humankind and create a peaceful world through the fostering of leaders and projects such as the Sunhak Peace Prize.”

On June 8^th, the three candidates (individuals or organizations) for the first Sunhak Peace Prize will be announced. The awards ceremony will be held in Seoul on August 28^th. “The first recipient will most likely be someone in the field of environment preservation,” said a Family Federation recipient. “Whether the award will go to an individual or be split between and organization and an individual is up to the award council.”

Dr. Han, who manages a close relationship with North Korea and several businesses in the nation, was invited by Chairman of the National Defense Kim Jong Un in 2012, around the same time as Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s Seonghwa (passing). However, she has not yet been able to follow through on the invitation.

You were invited to visit North Korea. Do you have any plans to visit in the future?

“Nothing is impossible for me to live for the sake of the nation and the world. However, I am waiting to get the timing right. If it is for the sake of peace and unification between North and South Korea, I would like to visit North Korea. I hope to give you some good news regarding the matter shortly.”

Before our interview, Dr. Hak Ja Han gave the keynote address at the “The UN at 70: Toward a Resolution of Tensions on the Korean Peninsula” conference held at 2:00 PM in the UN Office in Vienna, Austria. “This year marks the 70^th anniversary of many historical milestones: the restoration of Korean independence, the establishment of the United Nations and the end of World War II. The United Nations has led the way over the last 70 years in the path towards peace, and yet we still have been unable to establish peace or a world of freedom,” said Dr. Han. She then warned the UN that they needed to “change their mindset in order to continue for another 70 years.” “If all of humankind attends God as their parent, it will be impossible for dispute to exist between nations, races and religions. I hope that the UN can lead the way in making this possible.” She continued, “I hope that all of you can help us not only to solve the problems of the Korean Peninsula, but to transform it into a region of peace.”

The History of the ‘Providence of Salvation’ Receives Acknowledgement from Christianity’s Head Temple

The fruits of the European underground evangelism movement after 50 years

The family is the central and driving force of the Unification Principle. The organization carved a place for itself through interreligious and peace movements

This year marks 50 years since the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification began evangelism in Europe, the “Capital of Christianity.”

The Family Federation worked for half a century through hardship and suffering to make their way into the hearts of the European people. The central teaching of their movement is the preciousness of the family and the construction of world peace through true love.

It is 9:00 AM on May 10^th at the Austria Center in Vienna, Austria. The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (Unification Church, hereafter referred to as Family Federation) has gathered to celebrate 50 Years of Evangelism in Europe. The entrances to the center were bustling with people even an hour before the event. Dozens of tour buses arrived bearing hundreds of people, and long lines formed in front of the registration tables. “The event venue was too small for us to be able to invite all of our members,” said one Family Federation representative. “Some of the participants today drove for 32 hours to be here.”

The 2^nd floor of the center was alive with a bustling heat. The auditorium was completely filled for the event before the ceremony. The host organization estimated the total amount of participants to be around 3,000 members, current and former politicians and ambassadors for peace from 35 nations, including Austria, Germany, England, the United States, Japan and Africa.

As the main event began, a video about Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon began playing on the central screen, and the voices of members praying could be heard here and there throughout the venue. The peak of the event was the entrance of Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon. As she received the enthusiastic support of the European members, she expressed her affection for Europe through her lecture from the platform.

“I feel as if I have come to visit my son or daughter, who I married off 50 years ago,” she opened. She then spoke about the salvation of humankind and God’s providence of restoration. “It takes about 15 years for an olive tree to put down roots in the infertile soil of Israel, but it lives for over 2,000 years,” said Dr. Han. “I hope that after 50 years of putting down your roots, Europe as well will be able to become a pivotal continent in the mission of fulfilling God’s providence of restoration. “I hope that today, which marks the 50^th anniversary of evangelism in Europe, you can light a new beacon fire for your continent. Please become proud sons and daughters, who can lead the way in constructing the nation of God representing true parents, and shake and wake up the Christian people of your continent who are still living in the Old Testament Age.”

On May 14^th, at the Limburg an der Lahn Hessen City Hall in Germany, the “50^th Anniversary European Movement German Celebration” was held to a crowd of about 800 Family Federation members. On this day’s event, Family Federation International President Sun Jin Moon, who was recently appointed this March, and is currently carrying out a world tour, gave the keynote address. “Europe needs to establish an eternal legacy of true love and goodness upon the foundation of Christianity, which has played a pivotal role in the providence of God,” she said.

Limburg an der Lahn is located in Hessen, a small city in Germany with a population of about 30,000 people. The Family Federation explained that they held the German event in such a small city because the city itself played a very significant role in German Christian history. The Limburg Cathedral, built in the late 12^th century, was constructed in the late Romanesque style, and bears a deep historical significance. The cathedral is also shown on the German Mark, the former national currency.

The Family Federation explained that the day’s events were especially meaningful as they were in celebration of victory over social persecution and attacks by Communism. The Family Federation was able to put down its roots in Europe, the birthplace of Christianity and Communism, after 50 years of conflict. “Europe, the capital of Christianity, was the promised land to Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, who arrived there in 1965,” said a Family Federation representative. “This is Dr. Han’s first official tour and event in Europe since her husband’s passing, as well as International President Sun Jin Moon’s first international tour. As we meditate upon the accomplishments and teachings of Rev. and Dr. Moon, we hope to remind the European people of the meaning of ‘true families.’”

How was the Family Federation able to grow in Europe, the “Holy Land of Christianity?” It was a 50- year uphill battle that began in 1965, when Rev. and Dr. Moon first visited Europe on their world tour. They visited 16 European nations over 40 days, including Lisbon, Portugal and the Vatican. During the tour, 19 new holy ground sites were established as places to pray for world peace and the salvation of humankind and new European leaders were appointed.

“Rev. Moon emphasized the importance of the European evangelist movement in the Vatican, the symbolic city of Christianity,” explained one representative of the Family Federation.

“In 1965, when Rev. Sun Myung Moon visited the Vatican, he said that ‘The Vatican is the origin of and the place of assembly of European civilization. However, we must unite all of the countless divided denominations and sects and unite them in the way God desires.’ We need interreligious movements in order to unite the religions as one. This is why it was so important for the Family Federation to evangelize Europe, the capital of Christianity.”

The movement in Europe had humble beginnings, as a charity organization rather than a religion. “A lot of very complicated laws regarding religion existed in Europe, so the Unification Church was unable to be recognized as a religion,” reflected Family Federation European Regional President Young-Sik An (58). “We began our evangelist movement in Europe as a non-governmental organization that did service work.”

50 years later, the Unification Church has established about 100 churches in 100 cities throughout 35 European nations. Furthermore, soon Austria will register the Unification Church as an official religion. “Spain was the first nation in Europe to recognize us as an official religion, soon to be followed by Austria,” said Director An. “We plan to continue to expand to other European nations, to spread our name and receive tax support as well.”

How was the Family Federation able to achieve such rapid growth in just 50 years? People both within and outside of the movement believe that the message of Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon matched the climate of Europe at the time of early evangelism. “In the 1960s and 1970s, Europe, America and many other places in the world were thrown into a state of intense cultural shock. While faced with the problems of the Cold War and the Vietnam War, people were unable to distinguish what was truly important and by which principles they should conduct their lives. The hippie culture, in which young people immersed themselves in drugs and alcohol, became very popular at this time. The teachings of Rev. and Dr. Moon were a new beginning for many European youth, who had lost their dreams and hopes at that time. The teachings of purity and family values drew many people to the Unification Church in an era of spiritual chaos, family breakdown and loss of hope for the future,” explained a representative of the Family Federation.

One of the main factors that led to the growth of the Family Federation was the movement for victory over Communism. In 1980, university students of the early Family Federation, known at that time as the Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles(CARP), carried out movements against Communism in Frankfurt, Germany and other major European countries. In France, an opposing group planted a bomb in the CARP office. In 1985, Rev. Moon predicted the fall of the Soviet Union at the Professors for World Peace Academy International Conference, held at the Continental Hotel in Geneva, Switzerland. No one believed his prediction at the time, but four years later, the Soviet Union finally collapsed. In 1987, about 2,000 members of the CARP (an affiliate of the Family Federation) held a march for peace in front of the Berlin Wall, calling for the wall’s destruction and for world peace. It was recorded as the largest-scale international gathering since the construction of the wall.

Rev. Moon also outlined ideological solutions to problems of that time. “Rev. and Dr. Moon pointed out the problems of Marxism and outlined alternative options,” said Continental Regional President Young-Sik An. “Between the 1970s and 1980s, Marxism was very popular among young people in Europe. In order to block the further spread of its popularity, specialists of the time began to point out the shortcomings of Communism, but no one gave an alternate option except for Rev. Moon. He revealed that it needed to be seen as a battle between good and evil, rather than as a battle between classes.

He alluded that God was at the center of goodness and the atheism of Marxism was at the center of evil. Rev. Moon also emphasized that God was not an abstract idea, but rather an actual being. His teachings deeply moved the young people. There is much argument about this topic, but the church regards Rev. Moon’s teachings as a strong factor in foiling the growth of Communism in Europe.”

The “Resurrection of Family Values” movement was carried out on a social level, rather than a religious level, and proposed a moral reform that appealed to young and middle aged Europeans, and revived the true love movement. Out of approximately 25,000 European members, an estimated 60% joined the movement at this time.

“After the Unification Church evangelized Japan, it took on Europe, the center of Christian civilization. Our success in evangelizing the world depended on our success in Europe,” said President No-Hi Pak. “We went through some complications, but in the end, the Family Federation gained a lot of attention for becoming the fastest growing new religion in Europe.”

With Austria as their evangelism advancement base, the Family Federation carried out events in many different nations in Europe, expanded their congregation and succeeded in making their name known throughout the continent.

However, suffering followed their success. In 1995, the German government indicted Rev. Moon and banned him from entering Germany. Due to the Schengen Agreement, if one nation banned a person from entry, all other countries in the treaty needed to follow suit.

The Schengen Agreement was arranged so that all of the immigration laws of the European nations would coincide, making it easier to move between nations without limitations. 25 nations, including those of the European Union and Iceland, Norway and Switzerland, and not including any islands or the United Kingdom, signed the agreement. Participating nations in the treaty had their border inspection offices and checkpoints destroyed, and through obtaining a common Schengen visa, one could move freely between many nations. The agreement did not include citizens living outside the EU or give any person permission to work within the union. The treaty was signed on June 14^th, 1985 by Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, on the boat Princess Marie-Astrid, on the Moselle River in the small town of Schengen, Luxembourg, a nation that borders France and Germany

The Family Federation explains that the rapid growth of their congregation, and especially its concentration of young people, aroused suspicion in the Communist nations of Europe. They attribute the prohibition of Rev. Moon’s entry into the continent to this fact. Afterwards, the Family Federation faced persecution from European society.

“The European government banned Rev. Moon from entering the country because of the flame the Unification Church ignited amongst the young people. They said we were creating social chaos, but how can a true love and true family movement possibly create social chaos? It was religious persecution. I believe that the Communist nations of Europe were behind the decision. Perhaps they were becoming uneasy that so many of their young followers were leaving them to follow us, or perhaps it was because of our victory over Communism movement. Eventually, in 2007, the Federal Constitutional Court of Law ruled the German government’s ban of Rev. Moon as unlawful. The 12-year ban was finally lifted,” said Public Relations General Manager Ho-Yeul An. The “Unification Movement” began in earnest throughout Europe in the year 1970. Austria played a particularly pivotal role in the evangelization of Europe. With one word, the underground evangelization of the religiously oppressed, Communist Eastern Europe continued. “Austria played a huge part in our movement to evangelize Europe. At the time of the Cold War, the easiest way to enter into Eastern Europe was through Vienna. Our members, who would go out to witness, would learn German and other European languages and fast and pray all night to prepare,” said a Family Federation representative.

Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon Brings European Revival in 1992

The Family Federation President of Austria, appointed by Rev. and Dr. Moon, witnessed to countless young people, especially many university students from Eastern Europe. As a result, in 1981, about 20 evangelists were able to enter into Vienna. At the time, members from Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, the Soviet Union, East Germany and other Communist nations were risking their lives to carry out underground evangelism activities.

“We called the mission ‘Operation Butterfly.’ The sacrifice of those evangelists, who worked against persecution and surveillance in Communist nations, brought about the eventual democratization of Eastern Europe, and brought Rev. and Dr. Moon’s teachings to the Soviet Union,” said Regional President Young-Sik An. “Though those evangelists worked anonymously in the dark, they will be immortalized throughout Family Federation history.”

In 1992, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon brought about the European revival in earnest. She spread the message of peace and carried out the Women’s Federation for World Peace Foundation Rally, the Proclamation Rally for the Completed Testament Age and the Anniversary Rally for the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, all in consecutive days. Between 1999 and 2000, the True Family World Advancement Rally and the Holy Wedding Ceremony 2nd 40 Years Course Dedication Ceremony were held, and in 2005, the Universal Peace Federation was established in the United States, followed by a European foundation rally.

Dr. Han especially chose Europe as a place to substantiate the Family Federation’s motto to “create a world of peace by bringing nations and religions together,” and as a place of prayer for the success of Vision 2020. The year 2020 marks 100 years since the birth of Rev. Moon and 60 years since his and Dr. Han’s holy wedding. Vision 2020 seeks to create a foundation of support of 10,000,000 followers around the world by that time. In order to carry out this mission, evangelization strategies are being carried out in 43 key nations of the 194 evangelized states of the Unification Church. “After the announcement of Cheon Il Guk Foundation Day in 2013, Dr. Han climbed to the top of 12 mountains in the Swiss Alps, where she poured out her heart in devotion. Her hopes for the salvation of humankind and world peace echoed throughout the Alps, and became the stimulus for the European members to lead the way in the movement for world peace,” said a Family Foundation representative.

The fruits of the last 50 years of the Family Federation in Europe are truly moving, especially when considering the suffering overcome during the years of pioneering. Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon’s teachings about the preciousness of the family and the fulfillment of a peaceful world through true love are at the center of those years of pioneering.

In attendance to Heavenly Parent and also to celebrate the 1000 day memorial of the ascension of True Father we have gathered here in Las Vegas on this special day. We are so lucky and happy to be here today from all over the world; at this moment many Unificationists are remembering that special day. All Blessed Families, are you happy to be here with us?

When we move to a new house, in order to adapt to the new house, we need a lot of time to adapt to the new surroundings and that’s how we feel today; this new home is our home, in our hearts and bodies. Today is the 1000 day memorial. It is a special service of Jeongseong (devotional offering) for True Father’s ascension memorial. Of course, when you think about it, you realize how much Heavenly Parent and True Father have yearned and prepared for this very moment. Have you thought about it?

Expanding the Sphere of Goodness

Until now, the history of the providence of restoration through indemnity has been carried out by the Heavenly Parent. The Heavenly Parent is omnipotent and omniscience. He needs to be welcomed and attended by humanity as a king of kings, however, He has been lonely. why is that? Because His beloved children fell. Can you speak of a king without the people? Yes or no? So as we celebrating the 1000 day memorial of True Father I really hope that all of you will be able to liberate your ancestors in the spirit world. True Father has mentioned that you need to liberate 210 generations. So what is the meaning of Father’s words?

We need to liberate up to 420 generations of our ancestors. The spirit world has, until this point, followed the fall. It has taken 6000 biblical years to get to this moment. What a long period of time. The spirit world is filled with fallen history. The fallen people do not know God’s Providence, but thanks to the True Parents we have received the Marriage Blessing and as Blessed Families, are you aware of the providence or are you ignorant of the providence? If you are aware of it, my hope then is that all of you can liberate all your ancestors and lead them to the Marriage Blessing and I hope you can accomplish this mission of making your ancestors absolute good spirits.

This is the responsibility that you have been blessed with as Blessed Families. Do you understand? That is why we need to expand the good spiritual heavenly sphere and we do this by increasing the people who are on the side of God, the people who are living centered on True Parents. This is our blessing, our responsibility. Depending on whether we accomplish this responsibility or not, True Father can expand his influence all over the world and be more active around the world

Restoring God’s Dream

There are 7 billion people in the world who do not know True Parents, and to these people we need to show them the path to life, the path two love all over the world. More and more people are being born but we are also witnessing more natural calamities. For example, in Nepal there was a really terrible disastrous earthquake, but also in the Philippines there was a great typhoon. In America we also had many natural disasters. When we see these things happening, how do we think about dealing with them? Are we going to be self-centered? Are we going to think about our personal lives, our personal families? Are we just going to put our comfort as our priority? Do you think that living such a life will lead you to an exalted position in the spirit world?

God had such a wonderful ideal when He created the universe. His wish was to realize His ideal through humanity. He expected human beings to become True Parents. However this wonderful dream by God was destroyed by Adam and Eve. Because of the fall of human beings, it took 6,000 years for the True Parents to appear, however despite this setback, heaven could not let go, not forsake humankind; the beginning and end must be the same. Therefore, when God created human beings He had an ideal, and therefore He carried out the providence of restoration.

The providence of restoration was so filled with pain and was so difficult that is was so painful to find one person who could be called God’s son. You have no idea how painful and difficult it was for heaven to raise that person going from the individual, the family, and the tribe and to the nation. In order to raise the national foundation, heaven had to suffer through 4000 years of painful biblical history. Heaven underwent this painful history and heaven tried to work through the chosen people and God sent His begotten son to that people; however, what happened? The messiah could not be recognized around the world; instead he was crucified on the cross and promised to come again. And when he comes again, what will he accomplish? He would host the Marriage of the Lamb. That means that the Messiah wanted to hold the holy marriage, and in order to have this marriage you need a partner. That’s why when we look at the 2000 year history of Christianity, it’s been a history to find the only begotten daughter of God. You need to be clearly aware of this.

America’s Blessing

Dear brothers and sisters, as you know from Divine Principle, whether it’s the individual, tribe, or nation, if heaven grants a mission to a person and the person fails in his responsibility that person is not used anymore. We know this very well from the Bible, and we also know that when heaven does works, it does so through indemnity. For a long time in history heaven has worked in the orient and prepared the Korean peninsula. When we look at the 2000 years of Christianity, it began in the Italian peninsula, expanded through the European continent, went to the island of England, it flourished in the European continent and among these people and we can see that American history traces its roots back to this continent. Isn’t that true? When we look at the American continent, it is blessed with this responsibility. What is that responsibility?

It is not for America to live for it’s own sake but to live for the sake of the world, of others, that is why God blessed this nation of America; however, America has had many challenges in fulfilling this responsibility. That is why True Father came to the American continent and really worked to help America to fulfill this heavenly responsibility. For 40 years True Father invested his blood, sweat, and tears in America.

All of you are the children standing before the True Parents. When you look at your personal lives how exemplary life of filial piety have you lead? We need to repent for our shortcomings. When we look at the history of the providence, the providence has worked through the American continent and it has expanded across the pacific civilization back to Pacific Rim and on to Asia through japan, which is the Eve nation, an island nation. Heaven selected Japan and after that the Korean peninsula, which was selected as the fatherland of faith, as the fatherland of God. Heaven prepared these nations through the history of the providence, however this history of the providence was filled with pain and suffering. This is the 70th anniversary of Korea’s independence. It is also the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN. This is the year of the 70th anniversary. Think about it, how many people are aware at this moment of heaven’s providence? The UN was founded for the mission of welcoming and testifying about the only begotten son of heaven, True Father. This was heaven’s plan for the UN. At that time, True Father launched the history of the providence and he went back to North Korea, facing difficulties. He risked his life and was even imprisoned in North Korea. He went to Heungnam Prison. He was liberated the day before he was scheduled to be executed. The UN liberated him following the WWll.

So at that time China was a great communist nation and America represented the democratic world by itself. If heaven had not worked this miracle at that time, the 16 nations of the UN could not have come to the rescue of Korea after the WWll. When we look at the providence of restoration and True Father, True Father had the mission of completing and perfecting the entire history of the providence. Unless True Father did that, God could not be liberated.

I do not want to make any political statement however I believe that America had the responsibility to preserve Korea as one united Korea. Korea should not have been divided. I believe this is another mission America has been blessed with.

Fulfilling Your Blessed Responsibility

When we look at heaven’s history in the providence, heaven is always victorious in the end. That is why all the blessed families around the world at this moment need to be at the mainstream of God’s providence. We need to be at the mainstream of the world with confidence and testify about the True Parents to the world. We need to reveal that True Parents are on this earth, and centering on True Parents the history of the providence is taking place. That is how humanity and this world can be saved; that is how this world, that is how the future of this earth, that is how the future of humanity can be connected with True Parents and we can have hope for this entire universe. Following the human fall so many peoples and civilizations have been formed; however, among all these nations, do you think any country compares to America? Do you think that these nations listen to the UN? In one way, all the nations of the world are brotherly nations and at the center we need to have the True Parents who can unite all these brothers, all these nations, and when True Parents stand at the center they can solve all the world’s problems. We need to be aware of this. Furthermore, America stands at the forefront of the providence. It is the elder nation, it is the eldest son, and when America fulfills its God-given responsibility all of the world, all of humanity can unite and in so doing, we can have one united world centering on Heavenly Parent. It can become One Family Under God. This will take place without fail.
