When you stand for God's will after accepting His call, even if you are beaten and your arm is amputated, you should consider it a symbol of happiness. If your body is left with marks from injuries, your whole body will be in light in the world of eternal light. You will be praised because of your injuries. Rev. Moon thinks about things like this a lot. So, if I am put in a prison where I am beaten mercilessly and vomit blood, I think I cannot avoid this special opportunity. If I do, history is lost. All good fortune accumulated by the sacrifice of good ancestors will be gone. My People's historical foundation will be lost in vain.

I am always serious about my position. Therefore it does not matter what happens around me -- in my environment. This is not a problem. How I deal with the environment I am situated is important, so I must be very serious at all time. Under any circumstances, I must follow God's standard absolutely. With this determination, that I push myself to be greater than all historical figures, who faced similar situations, the victory is guaranteed. If in dashing forward I meet the place of my death, then the path I went will become the path of peace.

Therefore, in order that I complete my course of restoration, I must determine to face death at least seven times. You must go through such a course. Once you understand God's will, you must go through this path. I must go this path as part of accepting my mission, then I will give my whole being as an offering to blow away all world level problems -- the gravest problems -- with my sincerity and heart of loyalty to Heaven. If you can be in this position, you are in the most wonderful position as fallen man. I think this way. Even if you die going this path in front of God, you will go to the destined place.

Who will be the first martyr of the Unification Church? We are going to engage in the worldwide battle to restore the world. We must get involved in the fight for goodness. In the process, we are attacked -- then some of us may die unexpectedly. This person will become the first martyr. Stephen was the first martyr of God's history of martyrdom. Stephen was not a man of wisdom. He was adventurous, yet not quite smart. However, he was a passionate person who willingly risked his life when he was going the path. He had this element in his character. Then, he became the first martyr of Christianity. From the history of Christian martyrdom, Stephen who was the first martyr was situated in a higher position than other apostles.

Part 29: Significant Beginnings

About the time that Mother began to have labor pains, a ceremony for the Day of Restoration of the Four-Position Foundation was held, from 10:40 to 10:55 am. This used bowls piled high with rice, beans and chestnuts, representing the sea, the land and the mountains. Father said it was a ceremony through which God, all created things, True Parents and the restored sons and daughters formed a relationship of heart centering on the baby in True Mother's womb. It began with Won-pok Choi, Jeong-ok Lee and Jeong-hye Yoon offering full bows. True Father offered a prayer, and then Sung-jin nim, Won-pil Kim, Hyo-won Eu, Dal-ok Jeong, Dae-hwa Jeong and Dong-sook Kim offered bows in turn and the same prayer was repeated.

Next, Father indicated the four directions -- east, west, north and south -- and stated.

The mind, representing heaven, and the body, representing earth, were separated, so heaven and earth were separated. However, Father, representing heaven and Mother, representing earth, have restored what was lost and by us the child in the womb is loved, loved, loved."

Everyone then repeated his last words. Sung-jin nim also stated that the baby was loved and repeated "loved" three times. Next, True Father had three women in the mother's position, those in the position of sons and daughters, and True Mother, do the same.

Father, at the ceremony:

We, who were born with flesh and have already grown up, cannot go back to being a seed within Adam's body; therefore, we must establish a condition for rebirth by being united with True Parents and with the True Children, who are born of True Parents. Therefore, when sinless, true children are born through True Parents, you should establish the condition of having received some portion of the food and other things with the same ingredients. Doing this together, we follow a course of participating in the position of the True Children....

Through the birth of sinless, true children, the heavenly four-position foundation has been restored for the first time in history. In our Unification Church, the restoration of the heavenly four-position foundation has been achieved.

The lunar calendar New Year

Today is New Year's Day by the lunar calendar. This day, the first of 1961, is very important to us who understand the significance of the providence of restoration. For people in the outside world, New Year's Day is a day on which they exchange heartfelt pleasantries and nice gifts and rejoice together happily. It would be nice if we could also live in such an environment, but that is not the way it is.

Not many have had an opportunity to celebrate New Year's Day in God's presence. Have you ever met anyone who claimed that God had come to him personally and said, "You have grown older by a year today, so give me greetings of the New Year. Make some rice cakes and let's enjoy the day together," and that he had joyfully spent the day with God? I'm sure you haven't.

The innumerable New Year's Days that have come and gone in the course of history have always been a source of sadness to God. Today, however, this man who has appeared in front of you will clearly state, "Today should be a day on which we return joy and comfort to God."

This morning, I am setting out on this tour with great hope in my heart, not just because I am going to meet you, but because I am thinking of this dormant Korean Peninsula's one purpose. All people should remember these thoughts, which is why God, who is also thinking about these things, is hoping that this day will become a day that He can always remember with joy.

The thirty-six couples represent all of history What are the thirty-six couples? Their blessing signifies that the two-thousand-year period, during which Adam's family, Noah's family and Jacob's family all failed, has been indemnified for the first time. They represent all providential history....

So, what is the first group of couples among the thirty-six? I brought those who had married by themselves and joined them in God's presence. What is the second group? I connecter those who were unable to fulfill their love. What about the third group? They had been single men and women. The third group of couples are the center. In this regard, as the model ancestors, who are the representatives of all types of people on earth, they need to pave the way to the kingdom of heaven an. act as guides for others.

Invitations to family members

What are the thirty-six couples? They are the ancestors. In becoming those ancestors, can they consult their own parents? They have to consult God. Therefore, only after I matched you with God's authority did I send an invitation letter to your family members.

Those sons and daughters are not their parents' children. They are Heaven's children. Restoration must be done through indemnity. I loved them more than their parents did. In order to create heavenly sons and daughters, I invested all my energy day and night even while their parents were sleeping and doing secular things.

Still, their parents had to be notified.... In a letter, I wrote, "Since your son (or daughter) will take part in the Holy Blessing Ceremony, we request the honor of your presence." That's how I phrased it.

The wedding invitations were sent out a week before the wedding, but the question was how to word the invitation. The invitations gave the name of the bride and of the groom that were to be married and the wedding date. Because they were invited, they had no choice but to come. We stipulated, however, that if they wished to attend the wedding, they should do their best to find and wear the type of holy robe that Unification Church members wear. It was as if we were telling them not to come. We didn't want them to come, because they would create a commotion. Unification Church holy robes are white. Do you think they had ever seen robes of that type or even dreamt about them? Where on earth can you find a man who orders you to wear a particular kind of clothing at your own son's or daughter's wedding?

Ceremonies held amid struggle

From the viewpoint of God's providence, everything began from false parents. So, from the position of being True Parents, I had to coach the children in everything. Not only did their parents oppose me, but the nation also opposed me.

Newspapers reported on the wedding ceremony and made a ruckus about it, but we held it three times -- one for each group of twelve couples. Some of their parents, relatives and friends came and created a commotion. There was a lot of fuss.

The blessing of the thirty-six Unification Church couples had to be conducted in the dark of night, behind locked doors. During the ceremony, we heard all kinds of shouting: "Let my son go!" "Let my husband go!" "What do you think you are doing with other people's children?"

People were outraged because traditionally parents arrange their children's marriages; yet here was the founder of the Unification Church marrying them off on his own. The families protested so vehemently because they were fathers and mothers from the satanic world. Since God's children had been snatched away by Satan, I snatched them back from his clutches. It was through the blessing that I had to regain the children lost throughout history. Hence, I concluded the Blessing Ceremony hurriedly. I had no choice, because I was trying to accomplish restoration through indemnity.

I told policemen at the Yongsan Borough Police Station, "People opposed to us will come. Please protect the place." Because the police would then be held responsible if somebody were to be killed, what else could they do but protect us? They sent some policemen. I also posted two burly brothers as guards. What was this for? It was to protect a wedding ceremony!

I thought that the parents of the children whose wedding I conducted and who at the time insulted me and protested would all become enemies of the Unification Church. Now, however, they all tell me I did well. "Oh my!" they say "There are no daughters-in-law like Unification Church daughters-in-law. They are the best." or "You can't find sons-in-law like Unification Church sons-in-law."

One mother, an elderly lady, came to the ceremony with some of her family. Her husband was a teacher at a teachers' college. He came and entered the place, saying, "My daughter is going to get married. Is someone against my being here?"

We said that since he was not wearing a holy robe we could not allow him in. We had to be strict. So, he went out and borrowed a robe, and put it on. His black suit was visible beneath the robe. He came in and sat down. At the wedding ceremony, I offered a benediction. How much he must have disliked me! He wanted to say something bad to me, but as the head teacher of a school he would not have been able to do that and still maintain his dignity.

When he saw me, he was thinking to say something rude, he told me later.

Afterward, he joined the Unification Church and became a dedicated member. When I asked him whether I had selected a good son-in-law for him after all, he said, "Oh, I'm sorry for what I was thinking."

Ceremonies necessary for the restoration process The engagement ceremony is intended to reverse the Fall, which Adam and Eve, the ancestors of humankind, committed while they were engaged. The Holy Wine Ceremony is intended to completely remove Satan's blood, which stained human blood through the Fall. In other words, it is the ceremony to fully remove the original sin.

Holy wine is not something produced easily. It was produced in the presence of Satan, God and many angels in the spirit world. It contains twenty-one things you don't know about. It contains all the elements of the created world and of human beings formed in the process of the history of restoration. It is ordinary wine, but it is the same as the original core of life. After you have attended this ceremony you must not betray this. When I give you the blessing, I ask, "In case you fail, will you take responsibility?" It is a conditional blessing.

You have heard of the Indemnity Stick Ceremony haven't you? In the past married men and women betrayed one another and did many other bad things. Those mistakes must be corrected once and for all. Since the mistakes were made with that general area of the body, you have to be struck on your buttocks. This is not a game. It is the condition by which to overcome resentment that arose within the stained lineage through three ages.

After you go through this ceremony a forty-day separation is necessary. Why? It corresponds to a forty-year period. Because the returning Lord came four thousand years after Jacob, it has to be a period that represents four thousand years.

These forty days are a time for setting an indemnity condition. During that time, you should think of God's will for the whole, and while longing for the kingdom of heaven, you should not think of your wife or husband. You should offer your sincere effort for the sake of the nation and for God's will.

Father spoke on May 18, 1961 about sending the new couples out as missionaries

God has placed us here because He believes in us, not because we are worthy. Therefore, whether we take this path or not will determine our destiny. Our members living in all parts of South Korea are going hungry, even as we speak. Therefore, you too must overcome all obstacles in your path. The good spirits in the spirit world are observing our situation with sorrow....

You can become the owners only when you have the heart of a parent and the body of a servant. Ownership is what God is bequeathing to you. You can attain it only when you shed warm tears, sweat and blood with the Father's heart.

To become true leaders, you first need to learn from a true teacher. Don't cry for yourselves. You should shed many tears in different parts of the country. Whether you can have good children or not will be determined by the extent to which you offer your loyalty for the sake of God's will.

I dare to cause the families in Adam's position to experience difficulties in order to enable the families in Noah's position and in Jacob's position to overcome difficulties unconsciously, so that other families also might be able to do so by following suit. That's why I am sending you out to different parts of Korea. I need families willing to fight, to sweat blood.

Father spoke to the couples on June 24 at the conclusion of their forty-day separation period

You will now begin giving birth to your own children. You need to pray to have children who can be connected in heart with Heavenly Father. You must pray so that you can give birth to children that can become chief priests of heart. I hope you will give birth to children with a standard of heart that represents heaven and earth.

When I give the blessing, I take responsibility. The forty days corresponds to a four-thousand-year indemnity condition. In fact, your married life starts from today. It has been a time of indemnity until now.

From today, when the forty days comes to an end, you need to make a new start. Glory is not something to be sought for yourselves. Shed tears for three or four years.

Following Adam's era and Jesus' era, we are living in the returning Lord's era. Therefore, I am telling you not to defile Heaven's lineage. The greatest of all sins is the act of staining the heavenly lineage.

Father spoke on July 17, 1961, about his tour of Korea

I have returned from a five-day visit to every part of South Korea. I passed through Daejeon, Jeonju, and Gwangju. Making my way through Masan to Daegu, I visited Samcheok, after which I visited Chuncheon, passing through Jecheon on the way.

What I came to feel during the tour is that now is the moment for us to fight. I saw that our young brothers and sisters in the provinces are strongly determined, which tells me that during this time we will emerge as victors in this great fight. What really pained me, though, was that our members walked hundreds of li to come to see me when they heard of my coming to visit them.

People of the world have so much money that they can afford to travel anywhere, yet they don't come to see me; whereas our Unification Church young people walked hundreds of li to do so. When I went to Gwangju, I heard that our members came from as far away as Mokpo or Mu-an, and that they had had to walk for two or three days, night and day. In light of this, I thought to myself, Whatever goals we may set, our church will surely achieve them.

These people, who have thrown themselves into this work for the extraordinary will of God without a moment's hesitation, with total disregard for their own difficulties, and who have overcome all their suffering and made progress, have no worldly experience. Moreover, they are not tied down by their own individual circumstances, and they don't have any self- centered consciousness or views. When I see young people of about twenty working hard, determined to devote their lives to the providence, without really knowing themselves yet, I cannot help feeling proud of them. I saw many such members among us.

On the whole, they have more spirit than the young members in the headquarters. If I compare them with the members in Seoul and Gyeong-gi Province, which the headquarters oversees -- that is, with those of you here -- I can even say that they have more spirit than you when it comes to their earnest yearning for God and their loyalty in following His will. If you were to fail in fulfilling your responsibilities, I feel they could step over you and fulfill them in your place.

At the end of the tour, I found that my voice had become hoarse, because I gave lectures for three or four hours or even more wherever I visited, and I talked all night with members I was meeting for the first time.

There was a problem on one of those visits. I was scheduled to arrive at Samcheok at 9 pm, but the car broke down on the way and we finally arrived at 4:40 the next morning. You can imagine how long the Samcheok members had waited for me. They were very tired by the time I arrived. We held our meeting in the early morning, and because the place was on the East Sea, there were patrols in the area, and we couldn't even talk for long. After about an hour, I left for Chuncheon by way of Wonju and came back to meet you here this morning.

What do you think I thought and prayed about while I was doing this? This year, our young members have gone out to witness, as I instructed. They have made God's will their common mission and are striving to fulfill it. In fact, they have had many difficulties. I worried about them and prayed, "I offer this prayer to transfer the burden of their difficulties on to me, so please take that into consideration." I also slept outdoors for a night.

You are brothers and sisters to the members in the provinces. You have the same bloodline. If any one of us weren't here, it would not be good. Even when you meet a member for the first time, you feel you have the same heart. That is what Unification Church members wish for. We call ourselves "family members," which could easily be misunderstood by the outside world. We are, in fact, family members, in every sense of the word.

Father speaks about witnessing over the summer of 1961

I am thinking about sending Seoul members to the districts where they would encounter the most hardship. I want you to be proud, not of how much you enlighten people, but over how you cried, trembled, went hungry, were pushed against the rocks, and prayed. Go out witnessing now and experience material deprivation, suffering caused by other people and suffering of the heart.

You should return having been trained in feeling sympathy even for bad people. Don't take much money with you when you go this summer. Unificationists must raise walls coated with their blood, sweat and tears. It is the process of building a house. You have to march ahead, searching for the different places where blessings can be given. I would like to bless the simple house that you build. Don't look for support for building a church.

Itinerant missionaries, 102 in number, are mobilized during these forty-days of witnessing, including regional leaders, district leaders, general itinerant workers and special itinerant workers. Each of these 102 people touring for forty days would amount to 4,080 days.

"With a parental heart and a servant's body, let's become a bleeding, sweating, crying offering that goes out to the place of the high priest and takes responsibility for sins and that goes to the place of the son or daughter who judges Satan in the place of the Father." This is our motto, our basic approach.

1961 is the first of three years during which we have to make an all out effort to advance. We must establish a base in every local district. I am planning to expand this to every small village next year.

I want to walk through the mountains and rivers of this land in my bare feet, wearing my only suit of clothes. The revival group is sent out to show that kind of heart, the heart of parents looking for their children. 

The Meaning of the Tribulation that God Prepared

God foretold that there would be seven years of great tribulation confronting Humanity at the time of the last days. The period of great tribulation is the time when all saints must face the agonizing difficulties Heaven endured throughout the course of restoration history. As all human relationships will be broken down, you will face circumstances where you cannot trust anything. No matter how much you try to live your life conscientiously and righteously, you cannot insist on your way of life. The more consciously you embrace God's Will and contemplate about the world, the more pain and suffering you will feel as you observe the world. Such a time will be the seven-years of great tribulation in the last days.

It will be a time when all hopes will be shaken, the core of your faith will waver, and the leaders whom you have followed will vacillate. Not only ideologies, but also religions, consciences, and hearts of parents will be shaken. Then, why would God make such a world at the time of the last days? It is because God wants to give the special value that you can truly participate with Him in His suffering history. God has witnessed a vast number of human miseries throughout the past 6,000 years and faced countless difficulties. Therefore, in the last days, He puts you through the environment where you cannot find the center with any ideology or faith. God wants to find true sons and daughters who will be able to say "I love God," or declare, "I will live with God" even in the midst of such tribulations and difficulties.

Knowing this, you should not be discouraged and mournful when you witness the church trembling to its core, nor should you be sorrowful seeing that the leading ideology is no longer believable. You should not be shocked, seeing that a governing leader is fallen. You should not be sad that your parents have changed, nor that your brothers and sisters end up completely different. Even if everything that you believed and trusted in is in turmoil, your heart should remain calm. You must know that God is never in turmoil and that He will visit you at this hour. Also, know that God only makes you suffer so that one day He will build a precious relationship with you as you share the pain and suffering He has experienced throughout history. Thus, tribulation is His promise to do so. God needs such a time so that He can find a person, even in a most difficult situation, embracing Heaven and crying out, "I will go wherever You go. I will fight on with You. I will take action with You!"

Therefore, you should not despair, saying that your path is blocked. Do not be disheartened that your nation is in turmoil. God is not dead. No matter how terrible the world becomes, you should not be dejected. Remember, God is not dead. God will definitely visit you. Although everything on earth is crumbling, you must not waver in your single-minded devotion to Heaven. You must not change your inner hope that comes from relying on God. To see your unchanging heart, God pushes you into many kinds of difficulties and sufferings. You must have conviction in your heart that you will call out to your Heavenly Father even when facing unbearable situations. Even if you feel you have fallen to the bottom of the deepest valley, you must make every effort to climb up, using only a string that connects you with Heaven in your heart. Even though you feel bitterness and pain, as if you were falling into Hell, you must poise yourself to attending your Heavenly Father, concerned with your Heavenly Father's pains and sufferings before your own. Believing that Heavenly Father realizes your personal pain and anguish, if you push forward – no matter how miserable your situation – with a sense of responsibility and duty, you will never perish.

Today, there are millions of Christians in the world, but how many of them has such a faith? We are attending our Heavenly Father, not at His Throne, but attending Him as he struggles in deadly waves of storms, trying desperately to find His sons or daughters. You must realize the reality of such a Heavenly Father as your Heavenly Father, such a situation is His situation, and such a desperate heart as His heart. Then you must stand boldly before Him with conviction to proclaim, "I now come to understand that Your Desire is to find your sons and daughters, that Your Situation is to find your lost children, resolving Your historical pains and sufferings and that Your Heart is to love your lost children by embracing them. So, no matter how bitter the suffering or unbearable the difficulties I face, I declare that I am a Manifestation of Your Desire, Your Situation, and Your Heart." You must understand that once you make that commitment, you are Your Heavenly Father's son (child) and responsible to attend Him.

The Best Gift that You Can Offer to God

Members of the Unification Church should not attend God only in a glorious place. I am always aware of this. You must be able to attend God when He visits you in the most miserable place. You must be able to embrace Heavenly Father, whose heart is filled with pains and sorrows, while He is visiting you. Standing as objects of His heart, you must understand His heart so that God could tell you, "You are my son, and my daughter."

If God gives you His blessing at the bottom of Hell, you must have a heart that you are willing to go to the bottom of Hell. If you keep such a heart at the core of your faith, you will never end up in Hell. The spirit world is different from the place people thought of who said, "We are going to Heaven." In this world, people are boastful about anything and believe that they will brag about the same things in the spirit world. However, the spirit world is not like that.

You wish you would attend Heavenly Father. And you must attend Him in reality. You may be longing for a time when Father visits you and looking forward to seeing Him. Then, what kind of preparation did you make in order to meet Him? Did you want to prepare a gorgeous and splendid place to meet Him? I tell you, God will never visit such a place. Heaven is not looking for a luxurious place. Heaven wishes to meet you at a place where you shed blood and tears. This you must know. The Father you meet is not a Father with a smile but a Father who is wounded. He is a father regardless of His own wounds who wants to console and comfort His son who is also wounded, with the deepest and most loving heart. For this purpose, He visits you. From this point, everything will be reversed. Those sons and daughters who are miserable and suffering will be placed in the highest position. Otherwise, other sons and daughters who do not know suffering will be placed in the lowest position.

You have many gifts that you would like to offer to God. Even though you have no possession and have empty hands, there is a gift that you can still offer to God. That gift is not something that people enjoy in this world. That gift is prepared through your attitude to stand before Heavenly Father shedding blood, sweat, and tears. That is the best gift you can offer to God who is a father of suffering, sorrow, and anguish.

God does not demand you to offer all the gold, silver, and jewels that you possess in order for you to follow His Will. Rather, God wants to comfort His suffering son (child) whose situation is similar to His by holding hands and embracing. Under such a circumstance, if you can call God, your father, there will be no one who will resist you wherever you go in heaven and earth. You are allowed to sit at the right hand of His Throne. Otherwise, such a person who wants to sit at the right hand of God will be accused by the Heavenly army of angels, millions of saints in heaven and as well as the earthly Satan.

Therefore, the path that true Christians must go is the path of death. True believers go the path of suffering. The path that true believers have trodden is a path filled with sorrow and anguish, a path of endurance, and a path of misery. However, it is never miserable. It is because Heaven who visits you under such circumstances in order to tie a strong bond with you; not through treating you coldly, but through treating you with warm kindness. Such relationships and bonds you gain will be a condition that allows you to stand boldly as sons and daughters of God eternally in Heaven. You must know this.

In order to do so, you must become sons and daughters whom God will respond freely when you call out for Heavenly Father in a valley of tears. Filled with tears, when you call out "Father!" you will hear, "Son, I am here so that you can endure your suffering." When you are shedding tears of blood and calling, "Father," you hear His voice saying, "I have endured pains so that you can endure your pain." At the moment that you face death, you will hear from God, "Be peaceful, I am with you." What matters is the fact of how well you attend God and how long you live with God when facing difficulties and suffering. It does not matter how much you call out to God in a glorious place. This is because God's glory has not been realized yet.

Until today, the advanced nations like America led and guided the world from the external mission. Now America must humble herself. Holding her wealth and money, America must go down seeking the miserable races and nations. Not only with her wealth, must she go down with her mind and heart. Otherwise, other races and nations will take away the mission from her. Because of this, America must assist and help other nations in need. However, if she assists other nations only with money, that would be a big mistake. Since America is established centered on the ideology of Christianity and representing all nations of the world, she must assist other nations and races with her core ideology plus her mind and loving heart. Otherwise, other nations will wrest away the mission from her.

We have been calling God only conceptually. We call God, considering Him as only a subject figure in a religion. However, the reality is vastly different. God is the subject of your life and in fact, the subject of your daily life as well as the subject of your ideal. No matter how vast and expansive the subject of your ideal may be, you must be able to experience God as the substantive reality and to analyze Him through your heart in your daily life. If someone realizes the value of this ideal that is connected to God and brags that this ideal can never be exchanged for any valuables on earth, then they can be the one whom God has been seeking for.

The one thing that you should be grateful for is that God lets you call Him Father; and moreover, that God has been continuing to reach out to you, to establish the bond of relationship by which you can attend Him. There is absolutely no greater value than this. God wants to bring back all fallen human beings and to endow them with the greatest value. This means that God wants to restore human beings as sons and daughters, whom He loves so dearly. You must experience this God who visits you with such a heart. You should know this not just as a concept but feel deeply in your bones as a real experience.

You are destined to attend God who comes to you this way. Although you may attend some leaders on earth, they are not the leaders whom you will attend forever. Even though you may find a representative who advocates this idealism on earth, the representative is not one that you should attend forever. Then, who should you attend forever? That is the eternal and infinite Being, God. You must have this conviction. From the beginning to the end, you must live for and attend to God. You must reach this point.

However, in this world, some may be proud of being a son or a daughter of a head of state, while others are proud of being a son or daughter of the president of a well-known company. But, that is not important. That does not last. It disappears later. If there is any position that you can truly be proud of, it is the fact that the Creator who created all things with the ideal of goodness wants to call you His son or daughter and that you can call Him your Father. Is there any other position that is higher than this?

It is said, "God is love." Surly, God is a God of love. Why do you say, "God is love"? It is because God promises to give the highest position to human beings and has been guiding them toward it. You may call Him, "Father." But it may be a just word. You are ignorant of the real content of the word. You must learn the real meaning of the word deeply in your heart. You may be calling the Creator who created the universe, the True Father who is in Heaven, "Father." However, the question is whether or not you have attended Him as True Father.

Honest reflection on yourself will tell you that you have not attended Him in the true sense. God cannot be satisfied if someone just calls out His name. You must clearly know God has visited you with the desire to see reestablished the bond between Father and children -- thus creating the center of all substantial beings. Your salvation does not come just by saying a word but rather by becoming the embodiment of the word. The relationship with God is not just the name or word, but rather creating real bonds of relationship. If the relationship is imagined and name only, you cannot have the real relationship.

The Meaning of the Tribulation that God Foretold Heavenly Father Whom We All Want to Attend

God foretold that there would be seven years of great tribulation confronting Humanity at the time of the last days. The period of great tribulation is the time when all saints must face the agonizing difficulties Heaven endured throughout the course of restoration history. As all human relationships will be broken down, you will face circumstances where you cannot trust anything. No matter how much you try to live your life conscientiously and righteously, you cannot insist on your way of life. The more consciously you embrace God's Will and contemplate about the world, the more pain and suffering you will feel as you observe the world. Such a time will be the seven-years of great tribulation in the last days.

It will be a time when all hopes will be shaken, the core of your faith will waver, and the leaders whom you have followed will vacillate. Not only ideologies, but also religions, consciences, and hearts of parents will be shaken. Then, why would God make such a world at the time of the last days? It is because God wants to give the special value that you can truly participate with Him in His suffering history. God has witnessed a vast number of human miseries throughout the past 6,000 years and faced countless difficulties. Therefore, in the last days, He puts you through the environment where you cannot find the center with any ideology or faith. God wants to find true sons and daughters who will be able to say "I love God," or declare, "I will live with God" even in the midst of such tribulations and difficulties.

Knowing this, you should not be discouraged and mournful when you witness the church trembling to its core, nor should you be sorrowful seeing that the leading ideology is no longer believable. You should not be shocked, seeing that a governing leader is fallen. You should not be sad that your parents have changed, nor that your brothers and sisters end up completely different.

Even if everything that you believed and trusted in is in turmoil, your heart should remain calm. You must know that God is never in turmoil and that He will visit you at this hour. Also, know that God only makes you suffer so that one day He will build a precious relationship with you as you share the pain and suffering He has experienced throughout history. Thus, tribulation is His promise to do so. God needs such a time so that He can find a person, even in a most difficult situation, embracing Heaven and crying out, "I will go wherever You go. I will fight on with You. I will take action with You!"

Therefore, you should not despair, saying that your path is blocked. Do not be disheartened that your nation is in turmoil. God is not dead. No matter how terrible the world becomes, you should not be dejected. Remember, God is not dead. God will definitely visit you. Although everything on earth is crumbling, you must not waver in your single-minded devotion to Heaven. You must not change your inner hope that comes from relying on God. To see your unchanging heart, God pushes you into many kinds of difficulties and sufferings.

You must have conviction in your heart that you will call out to your Heavenly Father even when facing unbearable situations. Even if you feel you have fallen to the bottom of the deepest valley, you must make every effort to climb up, using only a string that connects you with Heaven in your heart. Even though you feel bitterness and pain, as if you were falling into Hell, you must poise yourself to attending your Heavenly Father, concerned with your Heavenly Father's pains and sufferings before your own. Believing that Heavenly Father realizes your personal pain and anguish, if you push forward -- no matter how miserable your situation -- with a sense of responsibility and duty, you will never perish.

Today, there are millions of Christians in the world, but how many of them has such a faith? We are attending our Heavenly Father, not at His Throne, but attending Him as he struggles in deadly waves of storms, trying desperately to find His sons or daughters. You must realize the reality of such a Heavenly Father as your Heavenly Father, such a situation is His situation, and such a desperate heart as His heart.

Then you must stand boldly before Him with conviction to proclaim, "I now come to understand that Your Desire is to find your sons and daughters, that Your Situation is to find your lost children, resolving Your historical pains and sufferings and that Your Heart is to love your lost children by embracing them. So, no matter how bitter the suffering or unbearable the difficulties I face, I declare that I am a Manifestation of Your Desire, Your Situation, and Your Heart." You must understand that once you make that commitment, you are Your Heavenly Father's son (child) and responsible to attend Him.

Prayer: Please achieve everything through us

Before You came to this Korean peninsula, we know that You toiled throughout history on a course stained with tears, sweat and blood. Our Father, who loves the pitiful Korean people among all peoples, please let the day come quickly on which You can demonstrate to the world Your heart of love for this them.

We know that, unknown to others, You chose this people and drove them into a pitiful situation due to the Will of Your mighty providence. We also know well that, in front of all peoples, we must attend You as our Father. Please allow us to realize once again that each time this people walked a difficult course in history, You were the Father of sorrow. You are the Father, our Father, who has endured endless pain and suffering; and You are the Father, our Father, who held and wept over Your many children as they died shedding blood and tears.

You have personally reached out to us with Your own hands of life and love, in order to find Your sons and daughters. You are the pioneer of pioneers. You have personally carried out Your work as the King of pioneers, yet today the 30 million people of this nation do not know You. They should have become a people who looked forward to the day when they could attend You, but thus far they have not done so. Still, please bear with them. We know well that, from the past to the present, the people that You have called have left behind a flawed history, in every age. Please forgive this people. The more we repent for the course of history, the more we should be able to uphold Your heart. Yet that is not the case with this people. Hence, the more You toil for this people, the more we feel that we cannot even lift up our heads before You. This is because we know how great Your efforts have been to find this people.

Father! Now that You have formed a bond of life with this pitiful people, please work through them. Please grant them the ability to take pride in having been a pitiful and suffering people before all humanity. I earnestly hope and desire that You will let the day come quickly when this people, who had no one and nothing in the world to depend on, and so little to be proud of, can finally take pride in the fact that they are together with Heaven.

Now that Your sons and daughters gathered here have come to know the Will and their mission, please pioneer the course of restoration through them. We know that we are the people who must become living sacrifices to welcome that one day of the Sabbath and attend and comfort You, our Father who has endeavored until now to find this people, even if it means our blood is shed and our flesh is shredded. We know that this must be done within a generation. Since we represent this people, this world, heaven and earth, and the many spirits who have fallen down while following the path of righteousness, we earnestly hope and pray, Father, that You will guide us to make a new resolution and determination at this hour.

Even though all things in the world should have sung together within Your heart, and all created things should have harmonized together with Your heart, we know that they lost their original position and status due to the Fall, and thus have grieved and lamented for six thousand long years. We are also aware that, until this very hour, You have fought Your way out, You have continued to endure, and You have persevered to bring about the one day of the realization of Your hope, even when You were facing sadness, difficulty or even death, without losing the heart of restoration.

Henceforth, we, who are attending You, our Father, must build the garden of peace, love and joy from within our hearts. However, we know that the conditions of our environment do not permit us to do so because there are still many evil forces in our way. Nevertheless, we are aware that we have the responsibility to serve You with our whole hearts. We must create an environment connected to the entire cosmos, in which we can live our lives so as to return glory to You, Father, and bring joy to Your heart as our original ancestors should have done.

Please let those of us present here today reflect on ourselves and consider whether we have become the kind of people who are able to welcome You, Father, without hesitation whenever You personally appear before us, summon us or command us. How much have You yearned for such sons and daughters! How much have You waited for such sons and daughters to bow their heads before You and receive Your blessing! Please allow us to whole heartedly attend You today as our Father. We sincerely hope and pray that You will be here with us at this time, and allow all heaven and earth to offer praise and glory to You.

We cannot fathom how hard You have toiled, Father. There have been numerous ancestors that have followed Your Will, but they were not able to resolve the sorrow of the Fall and they faded away in the chapters of history. When we come to know that they are looking down upon this unworthy group on earth at this hour and waiting for the day of liberation from their sorrow, we cannot help but feel how important our responsibility is. Please let us realize once again today that we do not exist solely for our own selves. Enable us to understand that heaven and earth, our ancestors in the spirit world and our future descendants are all linked together through us.

We say that human history is the history of restoration through indemnity, and we know that we have the responsibility to set conditions of indemnity to alleviate the sorrow of history. Please let us know that any wrongdoing on our part will bring grief to Heaven, grief to this age, and grief to the future. Please let us realize that our current position is the same as that of Adam and Eve when they stood before God. Please allow us to become sons and daughters who can prove ourselves worthy offerings to You, our Father, as people who have embraced Your Will.

By doing so, please allow us in this hour to lay down sufficient foundation for our past ancestors to be liberated and the many peoples of this present age to be liberated, so that future generations of descendants can be embraced by our Father as His beloved sons and daughters. Please also allow us this morning to prepare the foundation and the way forward for a new promise that can light up this period in time. We sincerely hope and pray for all this.

Father, at this time, more than a thousand members are scattered in different places throughout South Korea. Father, we know that, in this age, many people put things aside to fight for their own happiness, but very few people will put everything aside to fight for the one day of Your Sabbath. However, Your young sons and daughters are spread out in various places and are fighting because they wish to stand close to Your heart of anguish, as You continue to unfold the ideal that can bring the global mission to a conclusion.

Even at this hour, are there any members who are lying face down on their beds, shedding tears? Father, please be with them. Since I know that You are the Father who guides these lonely people and stands with them, and the Father who looks after us when we are about to fall down, I believe, Father, that You will be with us at this hour. Please personally guide us and hold fast to us.

Father, I sincerely hope and pray that You will allow us to become pioneers who can fulfill the new mission and responsibility that we have been given. Please guide this people who do not know how to enter Your embrace, and permit us to shoulder the responsibility of high priests as Your sons and daughters, in order to liberate even a small part of Your heart, which harbors excruciating pain.

Since You know that there are members, even in faraway places abroad, who are waiting for this hour and praying with tears, Father, I sincerely hope and pray that You will fulfill Your purposed Will so that the day may quickly come when all people may proudly proclaim that they are Your blood relatives, rooted in Your life, and may be embraced in Your bosom.

Let this be a time in which those of us gathered here today can promise to begin anew with fresh resolve and determination. I will endeavor to take responsibility for what remains to be done, and I ask that You will entrust us with Your Will. Please accomplish everything through us. I humbly pray these things in the name of the Lord. Aju!

True Sons and Daughters Who Have Loyalty During Times of Great Difficulty

This speech extract was sent to the USA national headquarters by the Unification Church World Mission Headquarters. It was given by True Father on February 12, 1961 at the Old Headquarters Church in Cheong Pa Dong, Seoul, Korea.

God warned humankind that there would be seven years of great chaos in the Last Days. During this time of great difficulty, the faithful will collide with the sorrowful circumstances of Heaven over the course of the six thousand years of history. They will be faced with circumstances in which the bonds between human beings will be severed completely, and they will be unable to trust anything. It will be a time when you will not be able to insist that you are following your course of life based on your conscience, no matter how much you have lived faithfully according to your conscience.

It will be a time when you cannot insist that the course of your life is based on faith or on some ideology. Anybody who embraces God's will and is awake will feel pain whenever he beholds what is around him. When such a time comes, that will be within the seven years of great chaos in the Last Days. That will be a time when hope is shaken. That will be a time when the center of the faith that we believe in is shaken. That will be the time when leaders who had followed in faith will waver. Everything will be shaken. It will be a time when everything -- ideologies, religion, conscience and the parental heart -- will be shaken.

Why, then, was God compelled to bring about such a world? It was so that He can bestow value on us for our having participated with the God who has worked so hard throughout history, with the true God. God has seen countless tragedies in the course of six thousand years and has endured numerous situations. In the Last Days, people will face a situation where they will be unable to establish their center with their conscience or ideology or faith. Such a time will come when God will seek true sons and daughters who can love God despite such chaos, who are ready to live with God even amidst such difficult circumstances.

That is why, do not be sorrowful if you see the church sway; do not be sorrowful if you see an ideology create disturbance; do not be sorrowful if you see a sovereign collapse; do not be sorrowful if you see your parents change; do not be sorrowful if you see your brothers change and fall away. Even if everything in the world that you have relied on and trusted should sway, your hearts should be composed. You must know that God is unswayed, and even at this very minute He is coming to you. You must understand that He gives us pain because it is part of a great promise to connect us with that day, which He treasures, and with the pain that He had gone through. Such a time is needed in the world in order to find a person who can grasp onto Heaven in such circumstances and call out to others saying, "Let's go together. Let's fight together. Let's take action together."

Therefore, do not be discouraged if you see that the path ahead is blocked. Do not lose heart if you see your nation falling into disorder. God is not dead. Do not lose hope even if the world is in uproar. God is not dead. He will surely come to us. Even if everything is in chaos, do not waver in your single-mindedness toward Heaven. Your heart of depending on Heaven and looking toward Heaven with hope must never change. Even if God should place you in a painful position to change that heart, you must remain fervent and be able to call upon the Father in such circumstances. No matter what kind of situation you find yourself in, you must make effort to hold on to God's heart as a lifeline and climb up from that position. Even if you have to undergo the pain of falling into hell, if you can stand in a position of being with the Father, knowing the Father's pain, believing that the Father will recognize your pain, and move forward, fully understanding your responsibility and duty, with the determination to go into such circumstances, you will not perish.

There are countless Christians today, but among them how many can be believers of this type? When we attend the Father, we should not attend the Father who sits on His throne in heaven; we should attend the Father who is working hard to find His true sons and daughters amidst the surging waves of death. We should regard Him as our own Father, and make the Father's affairs our own, make the Father's heart our own, and make the Father's wish our own. We should gallantly go forward to that Father who seeks us, and confidently say, "I know that Your wish is to find Your son. What matters to You is finding that son who resolves all Your historical circumstances. Your heart desires to embrace and love Your lost son. Even if I find myself in misery, chaos and difficulty, I will be the substantiation of Your hope, the substantiation of what You are feeling, and the substantiation of Your heart." You must understand that only in this position can you become the Father's son and the one who can attend the Father.
