Heung-jin-ah!

Our gentle and diligent Heung-jin, do you miss Appa and Omma? Appa and Omma are the ones who love our Heung-jin more than anyone; that's why we miss you so much.

We are now in San Francisco, which is the closest part of America to Korea. We are going to New York on the 26th. You and your brother and sisters are loving each other and getting along well, right? When Appa and Omma come back, I'm sure you will have grown a lot. You must study hard so that you can get better grades than your older brother and sister. You are the handsome one, Heung-jin, so if you can do that, how fine that would be... I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. We really miss you and want so much to see you. We will say goodbye for now.

Distinguished chairman, notable scientists and welcome guests:

The emergence of Unified Science, with its tremendous potential for improving our world, is a very important and historic event. I want to personally thank all of you for the time and effort you have put into this conference to make this great beginning possible. I am grateful to offer the concluding remarks for this historic conference. I will speak on the topic, "The Role of Unified Science in the Moral Orientation of the World."

No matter who they are, all people are always looking for happiness. To be happy is humanity's insuppressible desire and ideal. During the past several thousand years of humankind's cultural history, there has been no one who did not have this ideal of happiness.

Human life and a happy world

The ideal, of course, has never matched reality, yet human beings have constantly tried to achieve the ideal in their life. In this way, great progress has been made in every field of human culture, politics, economics, society, religion, science and so forth.

As you well know, humanity has established a highly developed, affluent society that cannot even be compared to those of ancient or medieval times, and there is no doubt that science has been the decisive factor in this development. If science had not developed, the economic prosperity we have today would not have been realized.

This fact suggests that the majority of scientists have made it their mission to aid progress toward a happy, ideal society -- that is, scientists developed science and technology with a keen sense of mission to actualize the dreams of all people. Sometimes men of power misused the results of scientific research for unrighteous purposes, and still the fundamental spirit of scientists has aimed toward the fulfillment of an ideal society for humanity.

The unity of the sciences and a tendency for unification

In this way, the purpose of science is to realize people's dreams. However, in the past, even when science made great strides, these advances could not always be immediately used to better the lives of all humankind because of national and racial barriers. This indicates that some people insisted on national boundaries for science. However, science belongs to all humanity and must not be monopolized by any particular nation or bloc.

This reminds us that many scientists with a strong sense of mission fought against the unrighteous forces that ignored the original purpose of science and hindered the realization of a true, ideal society.

Among all scientists there may also have been a few who forgot the spirit of serving humankind, becoming too involved in their own immediate interests. Nonetheless, the basic attitude of most scientists was to contribute to the peace and prosperity of all people.

In science there are many fields, yet there is none that does not aim at the realization of human happiness. Physics, chemistry, medicine, biology, geology, astronomy all have the same purpose. Of course, in the past several centuries, science due to its analytic method has become divided and specialized into many small fields. Recently a new and hopeful trend is appearing to consolidate and unify all the divided knowledge by the synthetic method. The emergence of Unified Science is the most conspicuous example of this tendency.

Up to the present time science, despite its many divisions, has worked toward one goal, in one direction. That is, each specialized field has worked for the realization of a happy world in its own particular way, and there is no doubt each field will continue toward the same goal in the future.

Yet when we look at the present world situation, there are many deplorable circumstances. Despite the development of science and economic prosperity, there is still so much tragedy throughout the world.

A good world, a happy world

Despite scientists' deep desire and diligent efforts, poverty, illiteracy and disease still overwhelm developing countries. Various troubles, crimes and immoralities prevail in the advanced countries. And tensions, wars and hostilities continue among nations. Thus, humankind continues to suffer from sorrow, distress and pain even in the midst of our luxuriously developed cultures.

Many leaders are trying to eliminate this misery and to establish true peace and stability. Yet the world is filled with empty words of peace, and humankind is sinking deeper and deeper into unrest, anxiety and fear.

How has this come to be? The main reason is that the standard of value that regulates people's behavior has been undermined. As ethics and morality have lost their power, the standard of goodness has almost disappeared.

The standard of behavior for human beings, which is based on God and Christianity in the West and on Confucian ethics in the East, has become lost. That is why humanity is in such a state of misery, despite great advances made by scientists working for the betterment of humanity.

What does this fact indicate? It shows that before the advances of science can be effectively enjoyed, it is first necessary to establish a world of goodness. A world of goodness means a world where the standard of behavior is clearly established. It is a world of morality and religion. However, it will not work unless this standard is newly established. There must be a new standard of behavior, which can ensure that the logical and practical scientific world will go in the right direction. This shows us that in today's world, science has another mission. It is not enough to improve the standard of life through the application of science in the material world. Scientists must also be concerned with the state of people's spirits.

Now I am going to explain why. No one can deny that every creature, including the human person, is a unified being with two natures, a material nature and an immaterial mind, as in the world of nature. The human being is a unified being of body and mind; animals are unified beings of body and instinct; and plants are unified beings of matter and directive energy.

From the standpoint of ontology, the cosmos is a world of effect, and it must therefore have an ultimate cause. Materialism says this ultimate cause is matter, and idealism insists it is spirit.

The cause and result of unity

However, because the world of effect is made of unified beings with two natures, the cause must be a monistic being with the essence of the two natures of matter and mind unified into one.

In other words, the ultimate cause must be an absolute, unified being with two natures that can create the attributes of mind and matter respectively. Only from a unified and monistic cause can a unified world of effect be brought into existence. That is, the unified effect must have a unified, monistic being as its cause.

Therefore, we must say that materialism, which takes matter to be the fundamental cause of the universe, is incorrect. The cause cannot be matter, for matter is an expression of only one of the attributes of the cause. This cause existed as non-matter prior to its expression in matter.

Humans are also unified beings brought about by the unified cause. Consequently, people cannot be considered only material beings or only spiritual beings. Therefore, the improvement of physical life or body alone cannot create happiness. Only by improving both the spiritual and physical life at the same time can true happiness be achieved. Science has put its efforts into improving material life, because its domain is limited to the material world. Therefore, in spite of the hard work and deep desire of scientists, humankind has not been able to escape distress and chaos.

Here we can conclude that scientists now must participate in the reformation of spiritual life in order to secure the true happiness of humanity and to protect the precious scientific work accomplished so far. The reformation of spiritual life means creating a world of goodness -- that is, a society of new morality, by establishing a new standard of value.

Embodying love to resemble God

Then how can we create the spiritual reformation? For this we must set up a standard of goodness, and to determine goodness we must decide the center of love. This is because goodness is the practice of love. Then what can be the center of love?

It must be God, who is a unique, eternal and unchanging being existing since before the formation of the cosmos. Love is the flow of heart -- that is, the outpouring of deepest heart.

Therefore, the essence of God is heart. This God is the unified being that is the fundamental cause of the cosmos dealt with in ontology. The formation of the cosmos by this fundamental cause is simply the creation of the cosmos by God.

Then how could God create the cosmos and human beings? God could do it because God has heart. Where there is heart, life appears; and where there is life, development and creation can take place. For creation, there must always be purpose. This is because heart directs toward purpose. The purpose of creation could only be joy, which fulfills the desire of heart. This joy comes when the creation, especially humanity, comes to resemble God. God's goal of creation is to have human beings and the world of happiness, that is, the kingdom of heaven, reflecting the love and creativity of God, which relate to mind and matter respectively. We know this is true from the fact that humankind's ideal is actually to realize such people and such a world.

The ideal is the world that was originally given to human beings as their home. The fact that people seek a joyful world as their ideal means a joyful world is the one God planned for them. Such a world reflects God's love and creativity and thus becomes joyful.

Through our amazing scientific progress we have begun to take after God's creative power but not yet His love. In order to take after His love, we must practice love and lead a life of goodness, because the practice of love is goodness itself. For the life of goodness, man ought to make God, who is the subject of love, the center of his standard of goodness. Since God is both the center and the essence of all things, His love is unchanging and everlasting, even though His creation, the phenomenal world, is transitory.

Therefore, when we take God as our standard of goodness, absolute value can be established, and then the eternal world of peace and happiness will be realized.

The world desired by God and humanity

Since the ideal world is the realization of God's purpose of creation and is the world that reflects God, people always seek to have a harmonious and peaceful life filled with God's love and also seek to improve their environment by continually creating new things.

Here creation does not mean mere production; rather, it includes all creative actions, such as originating new ideas, planning and improving as well as producing.

Since God is a unified being, human beings and societal life must also be unified. This means people must love while they live a creative life and must live a creative life while they love. Such people are unified people, and the world they live in is the unified world. As repeatedly mentioned, people have come to reflect God's creativity through outstanding scientific progress yet so far have not learned His love. So this world is still filled with sorrow, pain and distress.

Since harmony is the essential nature of love, harmony cannot exist where there is no love. Likewise, peace and happiness cannot exist where there is no harmony. Thus, humankind's present suffering continues because of the lack of love.

Therefore, it is natural that both God and humanity have been longing for the ideal life and world that would resemble God. In other words, the ideal human being sought by God and people's original mind is a creative and good person practicing God-centered love. The ideal world is the world filled with creative actions to improve the environment and is one filled with love between individuals and between nations.

When this new type of person comes to live in this new, unified world, all the sorrows, pains and hostilities that have plagued humanity throughout history will be eliminated forever.

The direction for all humanity

Human beings and the world were originally supposed to have been good, resembling God's nature, but to date humanity and the world have not realized their original nature. Therefore, to save humankind from distress and chaos, we have to restore the original state of human beings and the world and manifest it in our actual life. For this we have to find the absolute standard of goodness and practice the life of goodness. The standard of goodness is the center of love, which is God.

The fact that all humankind is struggling so hard to escape the reality of pain and chaos and is longing for peace and freedom shows that people's original mind is seeking the standard of goodness and the center of love. To find the center of love and to establish the eternal world of happiness on earth is the universal desire of all humankind.

Now, I mentioned that the world both God and humanity desire is the unified world in which creativity and love are practiced. In this world the desire of both God and people will be fulfilled, but to practice love human beings must first find the center of love.

To practice love a norm must be set up, because a true life of love requires order. In a society where order has been destroyed, a life of love cannot be practiced in harmony. That is to say, a life of love needs order, and for order, norms are required. Norms are laws and principles that regulate people's behavior, and these are embodied in morality and ethics. Therefore, to live a good life centered on love, humanity must set up sound morals and ethics and must practice them.

The morals and ethics that apply to the unified world must be clear and applicable to contemporary people. The reason past morals and ethics have been undermined lies partly in today's tendency toward materialism. It also comes from the fact that the standards of value no longer satisfy the present expectation for reasonable answers. From this, the establishment of a new expression of morals and ethics based on the absolute standard of value becomes inevitable.

Establishing a completely unified world of goodness

Then how can this absolute standard of value be set up? It can come only from an elevated, unified system of thought that can unify all past philosophies and religious doctrines.

Each of the philosophies and religions of the past had their own views of value and ethics, with strong points that are still beneficial. However, people have for the most part left them behind, because they could not harmonize these views with the coming age. Therefore, to establish the absolute standard of value, we have to absorb the strong points of past views of value and develop new expressions that can meet the needs of contemporary society.

Thus, because the past views of value and ethics were based on the philosophies and religions of their respective ages, a new system -- Unification Thought -- has to appear, by which we can unify the past philosophies and religions.

When the new expression of morality and ethics emerges, based on the Unification Thought system, we will be able to create a unified world of goodness never seen before. We can create a moral orientation of goodness never seen before. The moral orientation of the world, then, which is the very theme of this conference, calls us to share this new expression of value with the world in order to build the new, unified world.

In conclusion, I'd like to say more about the role of Unified Science. First, I am very grateful to the organizers of Unified Science for their efforts to synthesize the subdivided knowledge of science. The divisive specialization of science, just like the dismantling of a machine, ultimately paralyzes the unitary functioning of the whole and keeps science from fulfilling its mission.

Unified Science should unite with Unification Thought

Here today, some pioneer scientists are systematically integrating and unifying the truths of past scientific discoveries into a new system of philosophical science. I think this is noteworthy, worthy of high praise. It corresponds to the historic emergence of a new system of Unified Thought that unifies past philosophies and religions and establishes a new view of value for the modern age. As I previously pointed out, the main mission of science is to improve humankind's material life. I expect Unified Science will contribute with a new effectiveness to that end.

However, just as an original person is a unified being of spirit and body, true social life unites both the spiritual and material, and the ideal world unites love and creative action. Therefore, the true world of happiness cannot be realized by the improvement of material life alone. By this we can come to the conclusion that Unified Science has to unite with Unification Thought in order to accomplish its mission.

When this unification is accomplished, the long-standing problem of uniting science and religion will be resolved and finally the unified world of prosperity, happiness and goodness will be established. The outdated systems and ways of thinking will pass away, and the ideal, unified world with new-age systems and ways of thinking will be established on earth.

The Coming of the New Spiritual Age of Extrasensory Perception

Sun Myung Moon

It is not as if the spirit world ceases to exist when you cross over just one peak. In the future, the age of extrasensory perception will come, and then there will be no one who cannot communicate with the spirit world. The time of people and spirits attacking the earth is over. Now Satan and evil spirits are attacking, but there will come a time when good spirits will attack. I am doing this in order to pave the way for that.

Regarding the attitude of parents toward their children, it is good for there to be parents present and caring for their children with loving hearts and from a loving position.

This path cannot be avoided no matter who may reject it. The path of death is unavoidable. What if you have to go the way alone? Where would you go if a desolate spirit world were to open up for you? Where do stateless people go? It might be a most fearful world. Both Satan and the angels will come there.

When you open your eyes suddenly after you have died, you will realize the spirit world exists. But then what would you do if Satan were to drag you away? Satan might leap at you, saying, "Hey you! Stand at the head of the line!" Such things could happen. If you think about this, can you sleep at night? This is an inevitable course.

I'm serious about such things. What will happen after death? When I go to the spirit world, such and such people will come to me. I have made all the arrangements. I know all the secrets of Confucius, Buddha and Jesus.

I even asked Jesus, "Did you not die because of such and such?" and he replied, "Yes, I did. How did you, the leader of the Unification Church know all that?" By knowing such things, it is even possible for me to become a friend of Jesus.

You or Christians may call Jesus, "Lord! Lord!" but I do not. We are friends. They call me a heretic for saying such things, but you will find out who is the heretic when you go over there. You should prepare the ground for all these things before you go.

I'm doing this because I know very well that when I go to the spirit world, there will be a big commotion. If you cannot believe this, pray and find out for yourselves. This is the threat of the Unification Church. If you prayed and found out that you were wrong, what would you do? That is what happens because all such preparations have been made.

That is why I am following this way, although it is difficult. How about you? Where will you go? Are you ready? When you are dying, if you say to me, "Oh Teacher, please help me, as I am dying and going to the spirit world," nothing can be done by then. Preparations cannot be made then, but only while on earth.

Our Leader has organized evangelic touring teams under the name of "One World Crusade" in the United States of America, England, West Germany, and Austria during his third world tour.

Shortly after returning home, from May 22 to May 31, he held a special training session in the Central Training Center for 360 Family members who volunteered to be pioneer evangelists across the country.

After 10 days of training, all the volunteers were divided into nine teams for nine different provinces in South Korea. Every team, consisting of 40 dedicated members, started their mission on June 1. They will preach and teach the Divine Principle, visiting every county. It is expected that nine large coaches will be presented to each team for their transportation by the headquarters of HSA-UWC. Some religious leaders in Korea have predicted that this occasion will be a turning point in the overall evangelic movement in Korea.

The leaders of the 9 mobile units are as follow: Mr. Yo-Han Lee to Seoul City; Mr. Chan-Kyun Kim to Kangwon Province; Mr. Sung-Il Kim to Choongnam province; Dr.

Il-Sup Um to Chonnam Province; Mr. Kwan-Hae Kim to Kyungnam Province; Mr. Kyu-Moon Lim to Kyunggi Province; Mr. Do-Soon Im to Choongbuk Province; Mr. Kwang-Chul Hong to Chonbuk Province; and Mr. Soo-Won Chung to Kyungbuk Province.

Meanwhile, in Japan about 600 members have volunteered to be pioneers to teach Divine Principle and Theory for Victory over Communism. They are touring every section of Japan in 18 large coaches and bringing good results.

Strictly follow the commandment during adolescence

Sun Myung Moon
May 31, 1972

SunMyungMoon-720531-1.png

There are many unusual winds blowing in the world nowadays. The Unification Church members must never be swayed by such trends. That kind of adolescence is not Sa Choon Gi, the "time of thinking of spring" but Sa Choon Gi, the "time of the death of spring." Which one would you choose, this one with the character for Sa meaning "thinking," or that one with the character for Sa meaning "death"?

Did Jesus go through adolescence or not? Did Jesus not also go through adolescence? What kind of adolescence did he have? The one of "thinking of spring" or the one of "the death of spring"? He did not have the kind in which he whistled at girls. He went through adolescence with the character meaning "thinking of spring."

First of all, you should go through adolescence in the right way. If you want to live, the adolescence containing the character for thinking is for you. If you want to die, the adolescence containing the character for death is for you. If you earnestly seek to overcome adolescence containing the character for death, then, turn it upside down. If you turn it over 180 degrees, the adolescence containing the character for death (死) transforms into the adolescence containing the character for thinking (思). Therefore, by overcoming the adolescence of death, Jesus moved toward the young adulthood of the bride and bridegroom, which was like a spring day of hope and of new life. That is what the Christian history of the bride and bridegroom is all about.

What is the Fall? It was the failure to receive springtime centered on God. When spring comes, do children who aspire to become filial sons or daughters enjoy the season by themselves? They are filial sons or daughters if they can say to their parents, "Mom and Dad, it is spring. Let's go out together and enjoy the day!" There are some, however, who say, "Mom and Dad, although it is spring, it's best to take a nap." Then, while their parents sleep, they go outside by themselves to sing and dance. Can they be considered to be filial sons? They are not only unfilial, but they also deserve to be punished. Don't you think so?

What was the Fall? From God's point of view, it was the beginning of the time of adolescence containing the Chinese character for death. History began with the adolescence of death. Therefore, spring is coming for those who risk their lives. A new age is coming. The history of Christianity has been going through such things to this day.

When you eat, you should do so in a way that is different from the past. Even when you go to the restroom, it should be with a different attitude than before. These days, when you take a train and use the restroom, you find toilet paper hanging there. You probably use it excessively, thinking, "Well, no one is looking." You should not use it wastefully just because it belongs to someone else. You should use it sparingly and take some only one time. You must have a better attitude.

Even when you eat out of hunger you should not completely fill your plate with food. You should maintain the standard of finding satisfaction in eating three-fifths of your plateful after removing twofifths of it. Only then are you a wise person. You should know how to be frugal in everything. You should save the maximum and then find out the minimum you can live with. If you invest yourself using the minimum for at least three months you will discover the real minimum you can live with. After you do so, let's see how it goes.

Parents Are Best Friends and Best Teachers

Sun Myung Moon
May 29, 1972

SunMyungMoon-720529-1.png

Where does love come from? Never from the self, but rather from one's partner. Without a partner, love cannot arise. Within humankind, woman complements man, and children complement their parents. Love is not realized without partners. This is called "the love of three object partners." Those who have not experienced the love of three object partners cannot stand in a position of having substantially experienced God's perfect love.

"Let us give birth to sons and daughters and rejoice to the same extent that God rejoiced after having created Adam and Eve." This is taught in the Unification Church's Divine Principle.

Having created Adam and Eve, God said, "From now on, you will rule over the world. Our family will be the central family of the world. Please grow up quickly, grow up quickly." He felt joy and satisfaction while protecting and nurturing them with hope, desiring to see the day of their marriage upon their coming of age. By the same token, fathers and mothers want to raise their children well, and find good partners for them to become good husbands and wives. When that happens, the family prospers.

Who are your children's best friends? Not young guys from the neighboring village. Their best friends are none other than their parents. That is as it should be. Moreover, parents should be liked by their children even more than their friends. That is how you should think. Therefore, parents must be their children's best friends and best teachers.

In educating their children, parents should not say, "Hey you, don't do that!" and teachers should not say, "You brat, I will hit you in the calf if you don't do what I told you. Don't do that!" They should educate them in love. Parents should educate their children in such a way that if they are asked, "Hey, do you think you should do that?" they would reply, "Right, this is not good because if I did it my parents would be sad." Thus, parents ought to be their children's best friends and teachers.

Do you think Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden had friends? If Adam had a friend, it was only Eve. Next, there was just God. God did not want them to be friends with the archangel, who was a servant. Yet they were ruined because they befriended the wrong person. So parents should be the best of all teachers, the best of all friends, and manifest the best of all forms of love. Love begins from God. That being so, conjugal love ultimately stems from parents. So if parents say, "Hey, you like each other not because of yourselves but because of the virtues of your parents," their children should reply, "It would have been disastrous had our parents not raised us this way and found such partners for us."

Hence, marriages based on personal choice fail to meet that standard. By whom should children be educated in love? By their parents. They should see their father and mother love each other with great fun cooing like pigeons and learn from it. They should say, "Wow, when I see my father and mother together like that, I feel lonely when I am alone. I also need a partner whom I can love cooing like my parents." Their parents should also teach them to be like this. Then the children will come to repeat what their parents have been doing, the world will become a world of goodness and human history will become a history of goodness. The Unification Church seeks to accomplish this.

The Complete Restoration

Our Leader returns from his third world tour, May 8, 1972, Kimpo Airport, Seoul

Everybody knows that we are living in an evil world. No matter how good a life a person may say he lived on earth, at the end of his life he looks back and realizes that his life was not so good after all. Everyone wants to have a balance of more good than bad when, at the point of death, he counts the actions of his life.

Generally a person is apt to feel great regret if his life shows a balance of bad over the good. Similarly, we can count the good and bad things of a society to determine whether it is predominately good or bad. Looking back through human history, we can see that everyone has inherited bad things; but history should have provided only good things. In view of this, everyone can see that this world is not a good world, but a bad world. Then how did this bad world come about? That is our most important question.

If goodness came first -- if the seed of good was planted first then the fruits of goodness could be harvested. But very unfortunately, the bad seed was planted in the very soil of goodness. If the bad seed had been planted in the soil of evil, then evil would grow eternally; but since the seed of evil was planted in the soil of good, the harvest has been a mixture of good and evil. Therefore, evil will remain only until the last days.

This present generation belongs to a realm of evil history; that is, evil has dominion over this world. So now, what has God been doing to overcome this situation? We have to think about God and Satan; we have to compare what God and Satan have been doing. In God, the Absolute Good, only goodness can exist evil can never exist in God. God, the Absolute, must be good in the beginning, good in the process, and good in the end. In Satan, on the other hand, there is never any good; he was evil in the beginning, evil in the process, and his end is evil. If the enemy Satan were doing good before God, at the same time that man longs to unite with God, then man would be confused; therefore, evil must always be seen in the position of evil. Man is the one who has been the buffer zone between the absolutely good God and the oppositely bad Satan. Therefore, throughout our lives if we seek for goodness God can be with us; but if we do bad things, then evil will be with us. This is the destiny of all mankind.

In the course of our lives the most important and valuable thing is to know how to seek for the right way in tune with Heaven. If we do so, we'll be on God's side; if not, we'll be on the evil side. Therefore, we have to believe in God, the center of absolute goodness. Only to the degree that we are one with Heaven can we find the true origin of goodness, and through the process of goodness, harvest good things. At the point of one's death, if he has a balance of more bad things than good things, then he will remain under the dominion of evil; but if the balance shows even one more iota of good, then he will exist in the realm of goodness.

What is the life of faith? What is the reason for faith? We must know that the reason we have faith is to prevent us from doing evil, so that we can leave behind many good things in the course of our lives. Now what is the highest form of faith which we can expect to reach? It is the complete, perfected goodness as it is written in Matthew 5:48, "You must be perfect, even as your Heavenly Father is perfect"

Since God, the absolute subject, loves man SO wholeheartedly, then man can stand in the position of perfect object to God, as the fruits of goodness. Man longs to stand in this position of goodness. Naturally God does not want man to stand in the position of badness or evil; He does not want man to be "groaning in travail'; He does not want man to be in the least accused by Satan. Therefore, God, the perfect absolute subject of goodness, expects man to become his perfect object for the substantial realization of goodness; and also He expects man to live as such throughout his life on earth.

God never has the slightest expectation that man would do evil in the future; He wants man to be everlastingly good. He wants us to be good, not only in our lives on earth, but through our descendants in the ages to come. Also in the past, He has had some good results in trying to lay a good foundation.

Now let us think about what has happened since the fall of Adam and Eve. Between God and Satan, Adam and Eve should have reached the position of good. Because they could not reach it by themselves, God has had to work in history. Adam and Eve should have obtained the highest position in relation to God; the highest position that mankind can reach. Man, who is born for happiness seeks happiness until finally he wants to reach the highest realm of goodness and happiness. What is this realm like?

It is the place where Adam and Eve respect God as their true parent, and God loves them as His true children; the place where Adam and Eve receive the greatest amount and highest expression of God's love, as His son and daughter. Since God created Adam and Eve and loved them as His children, then in what way do they wish to be loved by God? Their standard is the most hoped for position, that in which they can be loved by God as His son and daughter. Which love do they wish? Complete love. But the fact that man is fallen means that man did not achieve the position to be loved completely by God throughout their whole lives.

They could have been, so to speak, the perfect beginning of the story of love, center on the absolute God. We are very sorry Adam and Eve did not achieve that goal in their lives. That is the fall of Man. Needless to say, God cannot but exist in sorrow and tears, if He, the absolute perfect subject of love, really loves His creation, which He wanted to love perfectly. We can conclude that God has had to tread the thorny path of restoration, overcoming all tribulations and hardships to recover His authority and to fulfill all of His words. Since He is absolute, all of His projects must be absolutely successful. Even though all of God's plans had been broken down due to the fall of Adam and Eve, He has to recover and accomplish all of His original ideals.

The fall indicates the fact that Adam did not begin his life centered on God during his own lifetime, as a true son of God. If he had begun his life as God's true son, receiving God's complete love, then what would have happened? Adam and Eve would have been loved by God as a perfect couple. If they had matured and had been raised and nurtured in the bosom of God's love, not fallen from Him at all, this couple, God's pride and joy, would have begun the history of goodness, as man's original ancestor.

Then Adam and Eve could only have been the happiest people, standing in the position of object united with God into one, centered on God's absolute love. All the things that God possesses would be theirs, and all the joy that God feels would be theirs; God's happiness would be Adam and Eve's, Eve's happiness would be Adam's, and the- joyfulness of Adam and Eve would be God's; and so they and God could enjoy abundant love, in the place where God and man are unified. This would be the fulfilled, mature position in which Adam and Eve could be loved by God as the true husband and wife. Very regretfully, they did not make such a good foundation in their lives. This is what brought about the fall of man.

Adam and Eve could not receive God's complete love as perfected parents. Parents who have not been loved completely cannot give complete love to their children, either. If Adam and Eve had become parents after having experienced perfect love, they could also love perfectly; but in the position of imperfect parents, without the experience of perfect love, they could only love their children according to the degree of love that they had felt. Parents can never love their children to a higher degree than what they felt before. From this we can see that man has never been loved as true children by those who should have been directly related to God originally.

Even today in the fallen world, people respect very highly the love of their parents, and there are some good parents in this world who are willing to sacrifice and even give their lives '.or the sake of their children. If the love of even the fallen world is so great, then we can imagine that the love of original Man, loved by God as His perfect children, perfect couple, and perfect parents, must be strong indeed! This original love is the strongest, the ultimate one, the absolute standard. Before such a love, even God himself would be so moved, He would cry out with full joy and happiness! If Man had such a powerful and abundant love, which we could call the highest love, he could have dominion even over the heart of the Absolute.

Happiness can only be gained by receiving good things from the object. There can be no happiness divorced from emotion and feeling. We feel happiness when we have some good objects which return positive elements to us. These elements give us a foundation upon which we can relate the emotion in every direction. Man feels loneliness if there is no element of response from the object.

In solitude there can be no satisfaction or hope. If the relationship of parents, father and son, had begun with the perfect love of God, and had been fulfilled among people horizontally, then the perfect absolute love would have been manifested in human society.

Man should have been connected not only vertically with God, centering on God's absolute love, but also horizontally with all people. The vertical love would then have been expanded to the children and descendants, centered on true parents. In other words Adam and Eve should have loved their children in the position of God, just as God had loved them; so that finally God's love would be passed on to the descendants through Adam and Eve.

The love of children should not just remain as children's love; it must be returned to its origin, the True Parents, thereby giving them joy and happiness. This is the base of four positions, as we say in the Unification Church.

So why does God need man? To make him an object for His love! There is no other reason why He wants to have man. Does God lack power? material? knowledge? No! He does not want any of those things in the least; He already has all those things. There is no one who can stand higher than God, as He is the Absolute.

He Himself created all things, so He does not want anything at all in the existing world. The only reason God created Man is that He wanted to experience a stimulating response from Man; that is, He needed a substantial object which can return the emotion of love. In God there is, of course, much beauty and joy; the highest and strongest beauty and joy there is; but He wanted to nave an object in which He could manifest His own image and internal character externally.

He would enjoy seeing His nature manifested externally, much more than having it remain inside. He wanted to experience the ideal state of love, the highest dimension of love, which could only be brought from the stimulating response from his object, man. We can compare the way parents feel compassion and love for their children more deeply and strongly when the children are far away. The farther they are away from their parent, the deeper the parents' love; the parents become so anxious to see their children.

This is when true love really springs up from the parents' heart. So we see that only in the realm of love can distance be transcended. How is it possible for God, an infinite being, to communicate with the boundless, limitless universe? It is not from mere power; only love can reach all things in existence. Power can't transcend all things; it has its limitations. The infinite, eternal world cannot be governed wholly by power, authority, or knowledge; but by love only. Considering this, we come to realize that God created man because He wanted to receive an objective response of love from Man.

Then how is God's love manifested? God's love is first manifested as parents' love, not as ordinary love. Part of the expression of parents' love is that it is handed down through the lineage; therefore God cannot but be a father throughout the whole of history. All men must love their children with perfect parents' love, as well as perfect mutual love.

Happiness should have started with Man in the beginning, not in the future world. History should have provided and been accompanied by happiness itself, not the search for happiness. It is a miserable thing that Man, due to the fall of Adam and Eve, had to seek for happiness, hoping and dreaming for the world to come.

Having been drawn into the fate of the fallen world, Man must achieve the standard of truth and be reborn in truth, so that finally Man will be restored through recovering the original ideal standard of happiness.

What does complete restoration mean? It means the end of an era. So now, what is the end of this era? It will be when, after a time, we recover the original standard of the ideal, perfect love.

This will be the day when God fulfills himself completely, one hundred percent, and when man as well is completely fulfilled. To recover the original standard, God has come to Man with hope. If God lost this standard God’s will could never be fulfilled, and unless man reaches this standard he can never recover the intrinsic standard of true love. If it were impossible to achieve, Man would remain in this miserable world forever; but if it is possible, man can be happy someday, even though his past has been so unhappy and miserable. Very fortunately, we have God, the Absolute, whom we call Our Father. Even though man fell, from the beginning Man was born as God's children, therefore God has trod the long path of historical restoration to resurrect Man from the dead. We believe in God, who definitely will restore all mankind.

So how does God complete the restoration? He will restore it all with love. Life comes from love, hope comes from life; we are living in hope. What would be the most important of these? Love must come first, because life came from love. For what reason did God create Adam and Eve? He created them not just to see the lives of His son and daughter, but to share love with his son and daughter. So life is created through the essentiality of God, which is love. God did not try to create love merely through creating life. Life began when love grew forth out of the heart of God.

The result of life must be united with love, for life comes from love itself. The end must come through love, just as the beginning came through love. If man loses love, he loses all meaning and happiness in life.

So what is love? Love is not concern for oneself alone; love is manifested through the relationship of subject and object. Therefore perfect love comes about when the subject exists for its object one hundred percent. Perfect love begins when the subject is completely for the object; we cannot find true love in any other situation.

Nobody can deny this, because Man was originally born for the sake of this perfect love. Between husband and wife the true mutual love can come about when they freely give themselves to each other; no love can be manifested in a situation where they have to ask love from one another. Love which is forced may be temporary, but it can never be an eternal love. Thus we begin to realize that man is born for this ideal of love.

Why is doing things for others considered to be so good? People teach children in the family or in school to do good for others; they don't teach children to hurt or damage other people; they always emphasize helping others. The better the man, the more good things he does. What becomes of the people who sacrifice themselves for others' sake? They become the subjects who can command true love. The person who sacrifices himself for his family becomes the one who leads his family; likewise, the people who act for the sake of their country become the leaders of that country; the person who acts for his comrades leads and inspires the love of his comrades. Now what does religion teach?

Religion must teach the people to sacrifice themselves for others, since religions have had the important mission of accomplishing the ideal of God's love and to show the people the love of God. The teachings and doctrines of religions centered on the self are not capable of conquering the world. Religion should teach the people how to love others; how to sacrifice themselves for mankind. For this reason the master of the Unification Church is teaching all its members to sacrifice for the people of the world.

The entire Unification Church knows that it should sacrifice itself for something greater than itself. Any organization that is willing to love its people and country with this spirit of sacrifice will never perish from the earth. Such an organization would establish a pattern of leadership for all the people of the world. Nowadays the direction in which the Unification Church is heading is to embrace l the people of Korea so as to create a new country which will sacrifice itself for the good of mankind. It is our major goal to establish a peaceful world centered on this true love; so our Unification Church is striving for that ideal.

The thought of the Unification Church says that we must do our best and sacrifice wholly for all the people of the world in order to accomplish our final goal, which is the construction of the New World. That is what our Unification Church is seeking for. If we do so we will never perish from the earth. Why? Because God would love us so much, that who would dare to strike us? If God disliked us, Satan and all evil people could strike us; but if God really loves us, who would dare to come out against us? If they did they would surely be defeated, and never be forgiven.

Now how did God, the Absolute Good, come to be in conflict with Satan? They are fighting for the sake of love. Those who work for something greater than themselves, who sacrifice themselves for others, will be under the dominion of God; but those who, on the other hand, do not serve others, but only seek their own benefit through others' sacrifice will be under the domination of Satan, both in the physical and spiritual worlds. Because Man was born originally for the sake of others, he has to live for and serve others.

If he really serves others, then inevitably he will be the Center of love and the inheritor of God's love. If a man loved a certain country more than anyone else, and fought for that country, and now is living for that country, then naturally he will be to a large extent the leader of its people. If he goes on with the same spirit, then eventually he could lead the world, and finally reach God. Therefore, the people who sacrifice themselves for others will prosper, and the people who live just for their own sakes will perish in the end. That is the fundamental law of heaven and earth.

Then who will be the man to complete the restoration? He will be the man who is the most anxious for others, even to the degree of madness, and is in fact living for others in all that he does. God has been living for others: for all mankind, throughout the whole of history, because He is the absolutely perfect, good being. God cannot but suffer and work for mankind, until his object reaches the absolute standard. So God is still suffering and working for man in order to restore the whole world.

Now from where begins the complete restoration? It is not from serving ourselves, but from denying ourselves completely. This is why Jesus said "For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." (Matt. 17:25).

Also he said "Oh my father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; but let it be, not as I wilt, but as thou wilt." (Matt. 26:42) and he even went to die on the cross. These words of Jesus came from his having denied himself completely. He prayed for the sake of his enemies, saying, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they are doing," (Luke 23:34). Thus the tradition that Jesus established during his life could not but dominate man's entire history since then. The will of heaven can only be fulfilled by one who is completely of one heart with Jesus.

If we think about the quality of love, we come to understand that the more one loves and sacrifices for others, the higher the quality of his love. So if a person sacrifices himself for his family, then sacrifices his family for his nation, then his family will be the leading family of the country, and he the leading patriot. Furthermore, if one is willing to sacrifice his family for his tribe, and then his tribe for the nation, then that tribe will be the outstanding one. Thus we must realize the slogan of the restoration: "I am for you; we are for the family; the family is for the nation; the nation is for the world; the world is for God; and God is for Man." Only through this spirit can we establish the world of peace. From this, at last, all will be fulfilled. No sages or saints ever lived for their own sake. Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity; Buddha, the founder of Buddhism; Confucius, the founder of Confucianism; and Mohammed, the founder of Islam; none of them ever once lived for themselves; all have lived for God, the absolute Subject, and for mankind.

Every religion in the world has tried to discover the absolute God, from whom all things, all creation, are derived. Alone among all the religions, Christianity has insisted from the beginning that all things ultimately come from God. The differences between all religions come from different ideas about the deity, nature, and heart of God. From this we do not hesitate to say that Christianity is truly a universal religion, since its founder, Jesus, talked about the love of the true son, the love of true husband and wife, and the love of the true parents, saying "I am the only begotten son of God... I am the bridegroom and you are the bride... I am the father of all mankind... " No matter how powerful somebody may be in this world, he has to strive for the absolute standard of value which requires us to be for others. He can be successful and triumphant only by achieving this goal.

The master who is leading the Unification Church has determined to sacrifice all its members to save the Republic of Korea, and then sacrifice the restored Korea to save the world. On the day the world is restored Korea will be the center of all nations in the world. Even if some other countries try to oppress Korea, she will still be the leader of the world. We cannot reach the path of the complete restoration without this spirit. Therefore I strongly encourage all members who are truly eager to serve for the public good. I'd like to open the way for their development and improvement. This is what I think, and what Heaven thinks, about the complete restoration. I pray that all of you will follow this path day and night.
