Message To The American People

Good morning. This is the first day of a new month. Entering on a new month, I think of my having passed one third of the year. I have set the second seven-year course -- the last three years -of the second seven-year course were 1972, 1973 and 1974 -- and this is the second of the three. In Japan, he promised the members that their three years in cooperation with Korean problems would be over April of this year. In the internal sense, Korea was carrying out its Providence while externally, Japan was carrying out her Providence -- her mission. according to the Providence. Those three years were significant years of restoration on the part of Japan. In the United States, from April 1972 to April 1975 -- those three years are significant years. Out of those three years, one year has passed. The month of April is the boundary, because in that month the sacred Blessing first took place. Again, I must say, from April 1972 to the end of April 1975 are the most significant years in the providential history of the United States. In the history of our church, May the First is the opening of a new era, in a sense. You must be determined to open up a new page in a new history, weaving it with good events.

You have been in the movement for different lengths of time., It is a grave question -- what kind of a record are you going to leave, each one of you? Have you been developing good relationships between brothers and sisters? How much have you been loving each other? This is a serious question. You have to make a good record of loving brothers and sisters in this Family. Even in your past, have you been loving your own parents, more than any others do theirs?. Among the couples, they must reevaluate their love. And, you must think over your love between your teachers and yourself, in the past. After joining this movement, have you been loving God's will with all your might, with all your sincerity? You have been going through many activities, but have you set up good records in those things? In order for you to use every moment of the three years, with the best record, you must not pass a moment without recognizing its significance. On my part, I am always thinking of how to make you set up good records in these three years. If I leave you, leave everything in your hands, it may not be quite so well. It is because you have your own habits of having lived the worldly life. It is not an easy job to establish good records. As you well know, in Olympic games, those who set up good records have struggled hard. If you cannot go beyond what you have been doing, you cannot leave the best record -- winning over others. You must get over all of your old habits and build new ones, in order for you to set up good records -- better records than you have done.

In providential history, if you are going to use these most significant three years in the best way, you have to struggle hard -- and if you, carry on your old habits, you cannot promise victory. I know that in the United States you have a free environment, in the economic field and in many other ways. But, if you go on with your old ways, it is impossible for you to be able to set up new records. It is in no way possible for you to set up good records in this providential history because In the providential history the ways you are doing things will be different from what you have done previously. You must go, transcending your old ways; or you must go by leaps and bounds. There is no other way possible. Then, in what way can you carry out your missions?

Your nation has been a leading one in the whole world and I want this nation to be the leading nation in the providential history, too. Besides your nation, as I see, Japan and Germany are strong. In order to drive you hard or chastise you, I set up Japan and Germany as the standard -- that is my motive for having brought Japanese brothers and European Family over here. And I want you, the members of the United States, to accept these people. In order to make out of you stronger future leaders. I have to drive you harder than I do them, those people. In New York, the Europeans, Japanese and American members are competing with each other -- a good fight. For the first few weeks, after I brought those people, I found that American members were really lax, and they were of the attitude that they would wait and watch those people, to see what they were going to do. But now that I have put them into competition, they have a new zeal to win over each other. Some, I heard, were saying, "'Master likes competition." It is not because I like competition at all; I want you American members to set up good records and not lose the, prestige you have hitherto built as a nation. And, you are not going. to make such records during a period of 100 years or more, but you have to set up good records during these three significant years. If you go on in relaxation, you can never do that. You must be united into strong oneness, or else you cannot carry it out. If there is any other way possible, will you please tell me? There is no other way possible.

I sometimes talk to myself, saying: "Why am I here at all -- to drive these people out so hard, when they don't seem to like it? I can just praise you, encourage you, without driving you hard -- I -can do that, too. But time is not always available, and in concluding what you have been doing, these most significant years are for you to do your part. If you cannot conclude what you have been into in a very profitable and fruitful way, I have to drive you harder -- or else you, as a nation, will not have accomplished your mission. So that is what makes me serious. If you, too, are as serious as, I am, you are going to be resolved to make these three years most profitable ones, so that you can make the best record during these times. Yes or no.? [YES!]

These three years I have been driving the Japanese members, very hard, and many things have happened. On the street corners, or when they preached, they were beaten by the mob -- sometimes those with cigarettes in their mouths would burn the girls' cheeks. All sorts of things happened. They would spit at our members' faces. Sometimes the girls would be raped. And on my part, I felt immense responsibility. I wished we could set up the record without those things happening, but the fact was a bitter one. But, the Japanese members were never discouraged. They united with each other -- all the stronger -- and by doing those things in that way, they could set up-good records. Without their establishing that kind of record and that kind of foundation, I could not have come to the United States for this, now.

I am here in the United States now and what are you going to do -- you American members? Then, what would you want me to do to you -- just leave you as you please? There are three ways to accelerate your pace: to beat upon you, to pull you or to push you. Which would you prefer? [PUSH!] I want each of you to choose one out of the three. It is because you are going to leave the record, set up the record now. What would you prefer, out of the three ways? [PUSH!] With what would you want me to push -- just with my hands, or with bats? If I push you with a truck, drive the truck behind you, and you would have to run desperately in order not to be killed -- would you want me to push you that hard? [YES!!!] I am determined to push you that hard because only by my doing that, can you gain the goal at the soonest possible date, with the best possible crops. Time will visit you with providential crops and time is not always available, as I said before -- so, are you ready to receive that? [YES!] Frankly speaking, that is no easy job at all.

You don't know what it is like in the leader's position. If I have to drive you hard, I feel more miserable than you do. All the passed away saints will push me hard to push you hard. If I am successful in pushing you hard, and if you are successful in being pushed hard, the whole spirit side will benefit from what we are doing. If you do not struggle hard, all the ancestry, all the spirit world will not benefit from us. Then you will be the target of curse by your future descendants. You will not have fulfilled your mission, while you were given the holy mission of the restoration of the whole world -- and future generations will accuse you of that. Your every action will determine whether or not the whole world will be saved, so, even though it may be hard -- I may as well push you. Even though we may have to die for this cause by our sacrifice, if the whole world is going to be saved, it is necessary for me to push you that way. What do you think? [YES!] I am so serious that every moment is so dreadful and when I watch every moment passing by, I am almost trembling before the fact, because your success or failure in this Providence will determine whether the whole world will be saved or not. So, every one of the United States Family must be, alert. You must realize that this is the most historical and the most serious moment in the history of the United States. Are you determined to do more than the Japanese brothers have done? [YES!]

At first, when I put Japanese, Dutch and American members into competition -- for the first few weeks, the American members have done one third of the work that the Japanese brothers did. So, I could not leave them as they worked. They, themselves -- the members of the United States -- began to consult with each other, I could see, and then I found they were doing better and better. First of all, they had to be united into strong oneness -- and then, when they went out, they could bear more fruit. To be united into one, that was the first condition. Second, they were resolved to sacrifice themselves. They were ready to sacrifice themselves without being selfish or self-centered. The third thing was patience in strife. Without those three factors, the Japanese brothers, resting less than they. In that they Could not win the struggle, so, they had to think of sleeping less, and in that way, they had to set up new standards, and by my having brought members from other nations -- they are awakened to the fact. You cannot stay where you are -- you cannot keep on doing what you have been.

In witnessing to people, in selling flowers and candles -- you cannot be defeated by the Japanese brothers. Will you be defeated by them? [NO!!!] Those who have been dozing off said "No!" Can I trust you? [YES!] How can I trust the answers from those who have been dozing? You must be awakened to the seriousness of this -- to think that you are shouldering the responsibility of the whole nation, and whether or not you succeed in this mission will decide the success or failure of this nation, in the providential history. There are many people who have immigrated into this nation, and they did that in hope and zeal- and happiness. But, I am here with a heavy sense of responsibility. We are on the verge of life and death -- success or failure. Well, I have a clear view of how I am going to do this I have. my own plan of how to carry out things -- and, always, every morning, when I wake up, I say to myself, "I am going to do better than I planned." Every day, when I kneel down before God in prayer, I am more serious than any one of you here or anyone else in the United States, I am sure. You do not know what I am going through -- I know it is a difficult job, but if you get over all those difficulties and attain. the goal, you are going to be the leading nation in the providential history. I have made these three years an historical part of your nation, and I want you to work really hard for these three years.

These three years are most significant years in your history and in the providential history, and this is something like Jesus' three years of public mission -- and we are holding the toll gate to the world. Our mission from now on is going to be on the worldwide level. And, I want you to be like the Roman Empire -- not in opposition to Jesus -- but in cooperation with Jesus -- or at least I want you to be like Jesus' disciples, in cooperation with him to the last -moment. And, if you cooperate with me in entire oneness, then we can make our mission a success. If you are really cooperative with me -- not like the disciples who denied Jesus at the last moment -- but if you take up your, cross and follow me, in unity and in cooperation with me, then we are sure to win over the -Satanic power and carry out bur mission toward success. Then each one of you must put yourself in Jesus' position, praying the bitter prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane and you must win yourself and win over Satan. You, yourselves, must be able to get at least twelve people in one year or 72 people in six years or 120 people in your lifetime. During these three years, I want any one of you to meet that standard, at least one person.

I must repeatedly say that these are critical moments -- the most significant ones. Without your knowing it, I have been going through many bitter things, and I have been struggling hard to win something in order for me to be able to go back and forth between many nations and yesterday was an historical day, in which I obtained that -- and with that in mind, I am thanking God for that privilege, to have been freed, and to have been cleared of the obstacles. From now on, I am really going to push you hard, with confidence. . But, I cannot force you, so, if you are not ready for that and if you are reluctant for that, I will let you go. What would you do? Which would you prefer? [PUSH!] Do you really mean that? [YES!] Aren't you going to complain? [NO!] You must realize that you, as an individual, each one of you as an individual, is no problem, no question. Sometimes I think that if I could die this moment-and God's will be realized, I would prefer to die, instead of doing this hard job of pushing you. I would rather die than try to push you. I am so serious, you must know that. Without my being as serious as this, I can not say that I am the leader of your group, in the place of God -- out of these 70 people, who are those I can really use for the right purpose? Who are the male members, who are the female members? If I push you hard, you may complain inwardly, or if I beat upon you, you may say, "This is the Korean or Oriental way." But, if I am a general in the battlefield, can I always read your facial expressions and hesitate in pushing you ahead?

God is alive and I am here, in accordance with God's will -- and if God and myself are entirely united in pushing you ahead, if you are pushed by its forces and attain the goal, we cannot but win. You cannot carry it out all by yourself, you need me. First of all, you and I must be united into one. And then we -- both of us, you and myself -- must be resolved to sacrifice ourselves for this nation. And we must pour out all our efforts in perseverance and patience. I understand, from today you are going to go through a three-day fast, and in my mind I said, "These three days are historical days; I wonder who initiated this fast -- whoever it is, is really God-oriented and his mind knows that these three days are so significant, and I am happy. I want you to be resolved to set up the best record this month and in the months to come. Have you ever loved this nation and the people of this nation in the real sense? Have you ever done that? You have tried to and you have intended to, but have you really loved this nation in the truest sense? Have you ever established the record of having loved this nation? Well, who is confident of having done that? How can you express your sincerity, how can you express Your love? By showing the people the way to God, by feeding the people with bread -- in what way can you say you have done your part? You must actually feel that, without my help, these, people are on the very edge of life or death; if I leave them as they are, they are going to be killed. They are destined to be killed. Have you ever felt things that way?

You must know that the people are going to commit suicide -- and with those people, you must cling to them and try to persuade them not to kill themselves or try to awaken them to the new facts -- or you must shed tears in sympathy with them -- you must be able to tell them, "I am going to kill myself, if you are going to die!" You must be as serious as that. Have you ever said that to a man? "if you are going to kill yourself, kill me instead." If you are that serious with that person, he can stop killing himself. Have you ever cried out in witnessing to people, cried out at the top of your voice, even shedding tears, sweat and blood? Have you ever done that much?

These being important years, you must be resolved to carry out your mission -- and I think one person a month is too small a quota, and I want you to work really hard, knowing that this nation is going to be ruined without your help, without your struggle. I have already spent five or six months in the United States, and I'm sure Japan needs me, and Korea and the European nations need me, and I cannot stay here too long. Japan also needs help. So, just in case you fail, I must get you and the European members to help the Japanese family, the Japanese movement. If you cannot assume the subject position, I cannot have other members from other nations keep helping you. In case you lose subjectivity, my putting manpower here will be of no use. Wouldn't that be true? So, day and night, I want you to be really serious -- and in the evening, at night, kneel down before God -- you must sink into deep. meditation and remind yourself of the fact that these three years will be the most significant years, and that you are going to play the role of Jesus in his public ministry, and in that case you are going to be Jesus having fulfilled the mission -- and you must not fail in this. You must be different today from what you were yesterday, and every day must change in a progressive way, and every morning you want to get up earlier than you did yesterday -- and you must be ready to work harder than yesterday and bring more crops than you did yesterday.

With me and you together, we are going to go over the hill of Golgotha. Would you stop here or go on beyond the valley of Golgotha? Beyond!! Just as Jesus did I want to ask you the question, as Jesus did. Jesus said to Peter, "Do you love me, do you really love me?" He asked three questions. Jesus repeated those question three times, asking him, "Do you love me?" -- and that meant that Jesus wanted Peter to love him more than anyone else did and more than he loved anyone else. And, I am really serious in asking these questions to you. Sometimes I feel that I am representing the East and you are representing the West and we two fit together in unity; we can win the whole world. Better than for the Oriental nations to become one with each other when an Oriental nation and a Western nation are united together, that's stronger. Better than for the wealthy nations to be united into one -- the poorest Oriental nation, Korea, and the wealthiest Western nation, the United States -- if those two are put together in strong unity it is going to be real power. If you, the leading nation of the world, will put yourself in a more miserable position than Korea, which is the most miserable nation, the poorest one, then your sacrifice will save the world. An astonishing miracle will be performed right there. A new record can be set up.

I understand that in your nation, even the poorest ones can have bread at least; but if you reserve that to the moment when you have witnessed to so many people, and if you are resolved that you will never eat any bread unless you can bring in, so many members -- then wonderful things will come about. Before being hungry for bread, be hungry for men; and unless you bring more members, you do not eat -- then that is a more wonderful thing than to eat. Do you know in what way you can establish a record? Forgetting to sleep, forgetting to eat, forgetting to cleanse yourself -- if you struggle hard to establish better records than other people, then history will be at your own disposal. And we are going to set up a good history with the events you are making, and creating. Are you determined to carry out this mission of such historical import? [YES!!!]

Your way is a rough one. You must persevere. You must never be self-centered, or else you cannot go this way and cannot set up good records. If you are in a breathlessly difficult situation, you must be thinking of your ancestors. You must remind yourself of Noah, who struggled 120 long years. Think of Moses' 40 years in the wilderness, with untold hardships, after leading a glorious life in the Pharaoh's palace. Think of John the Baptist, who prepared for 30 long years in the wilderness, living on locusts and wild honey, to prepare the way for Jesus, the messiah. Think of Jesus, before the Cross -- he struggled hard to leave the record of having saved mankind, even on the spiritual level. Even though they struggled so hard, Noah was a failure, in a way, Abraham was, Moses was and Jesus was; and in them, we must know that we have to struggle harder than they did. That is going to be our motto, our own standard. We are not going to be that way in a year or in the future, but now we must do that -- right now. If you go on with this attitude, you will leave good records behind you.

Be Serious About Your Mission

Now, this place is to produce world leaders, here at Belvedere. Sometimes we have to dig the whole ground, too, if necessary. Sometimes we may not have this kind of privilege -- having tractors to ride around on -- we may have to go back to the old way of digging. Our tractor will be the peak. So, there is a need for this kind of training.

So, you have to have an international sense in your work -- you've got to realize that. You are not going to stay forever in America. You should know all four directions, east, west, north and south, if you are to be a great leader. To say that you know only the east side of the geographical territory is not to say you know the full territory. You have got to know the rest of it also.

You may not know the real meaning of hunger -- you have never experienced it -- you just know how to talk about it. You don't know what the real taste of hunger is. When you really experience hunger-you know, fasting-when you actually fast for seven days, you will know what the taste is of good food or even poor food -- what the real taste is. When you reach your peak, after seven days -- going from seven days to eight days -- then you may think, "I will eat something." But you have to realize, have to think within yourself, how wonderful the taste will be when you eat the rice or the food after seven days -- even if you are thinking 15 minutes later, "My time is here."

So, training all the time, training, training. Special training, on a continual basis, for a stronger army and troops. This is the common sense of the logical or scientific. How well you can perform the part -- unless you practice it, you train yourself -- just by shouting, you are not going to break the bricks (you know what I mean) -- you have got to be trained. Then, you actually produce the results of bringing the greater -- continual basis of trying and practice. The accumulation of the force of power is that you can break the bricks.

Before you reach your thirties... our Family should receive intensive training in many, many areas. Even he [Master] planned his own life: with preparation up to 33 years of age; up to 45, he was practicing; the rest of his life, after 45 years of age, he planned for his accomplishments -- the consummation of his mission. So, he lives his life according to the schedule. So, the preparation period takes a certain amount of time. So, if you miss that kind of second realization period, or practicing period, it is too late, too late to do God's will. You haven't planned your life. All this preparation and practicing -- then you can be successful. Success does not come in an instant, without any labor -- like a miracle. You have to do it by yourself.

In 1945, he began to establish the sacred Holy Grounds. In the 1960's, he set up the worldwide mission he is now launching -- that you are a part of. He is like this, scheduled already. But if you don't have a preparation period, for your training, all your life will be nullified and invalid. And when the time comes for the practicing period, you will be missing that important part (the preparation period) of your training. That period is very important. During his thirties, he tested all kinds of leaders in Korea and Japan -- he himself visited, investigated, prepared for the future.

He did this in his thirties. When you prepare some kind of a feast, big party, you cannot be sleepy -- you have to work hard. Same thing: you have to have preparation; no time to be relaxed, no time to be lazy. You have to be busy during the practicing period. The problem is: who is going to put more time in, where do we get more time? The only place you can get your extra time from is your leisure time, your resting time, your free time. Master eats his meal in three minutes. So you have to prepare your stomach to quickly receive food, even in three minutes. Sometimes, he eats without chewing the rice in his mouth or putting the rice in his mouth -- for a certain purpose. Then you will not have any problem with stomach disease.

So, in case of war, we have to train ourselves, for the rainy day, for the war to come, train yourselves. Sometimes you have to sleep sitting up. So when Master goes somewhere in the car, he is sleeping while sitting up. You have to know yourself, be analysts of your own physical body: how much you have, how much is your maximum. You have to know your body. Even now, he sleeps only two to three hours per day. He watches and studies TV and English until three o'clock-until you are sound asleep. He sleeps from four to six, two hours sometimes he sleeps; this is now his schedule. Sometimes you are tired, your eyes are bugging out -- this is how to release it. You have to have some secret of exercising. You look like an ogre (he did not say "ogre") -- but this kind of a face. You have to think of taking care of your body. Massaging will have an equivalent effect.

If you have a bad physical condition, another force is moving within your body -- overwhelming that disease or fatigue will be ousted from your body, so you become fresh -- if you use this practice of massaging your vein system, it can be positive if you are sick. So, he uses this method. You are perspiring -- this fatigue will be going away -- so suddenly he becomes fresh, as if he had slept eight hours. In five or ten minutes, he is perspiring, and then he is relaxed and his fatigue is gone. So this is give and take -- exhaust pipe and then you are filling up with gas -- and give and take is important within your physical body.

Some of the joints in your legs are very important when you are becoming old; you have to take care of them. Our Master, preparing for future events, is taking care of his joints. So, he is a fast, fast walker -- the fastest walker. Usually, he goes hunting in the mountains -- not necessarily looking for game, but for the exercise, for keeping his body in shape. So you have to always train yourself -- so as not to be deteriorating your health level. Your body is so precious, you have to take good care of your body -- you have to be in good shape. When you get married, blessed, and have children -- you will have no time to train yourself. While you are single and have precious time -- you have got to have this kind of training.

So it is his philosophy of life to let you people be trained until your thirties -- some say above thirty -- but the same "thirty" category. That area -- you have to be trained, and intensively in many areas. The same thing: if you are going to a big family, you have got to have lots of collections. Same thing: when you are [changing] your way of life, you have got to be prepared. A voyager needs what... in the sea you need to be prepared, for the rainy days, for the stormy days, rain and storm, hurricane. So this is good for you to hear.

So, even when he goes shopping for the European leaders -- I don't know what they got -- he is faster, he is surpassing everybody, he is faster than anyone else. Usually a woman -- maybe Mother -- Mother takes three hours, when she need only go an hour-one third, like that. In three minutes he will finish it -- one, two, three. In three hours, he can look at 300 suits and know which to buy and which to wear -- because he was trained in this area while he was young, when he was in his thirties. So he already trained himself.

When he sees something, he thinks, "What is the center, what is the main theme of it, what are its contents?" He is trained to suddenly visualize what is the subject -- where is the subject position?-he reasons that way -- the subject-object relationship. Where is the four-directional existence? He sees it like that -- he was trained in that way. Horizontally or vertically, he sees through it, and he knows if it is harmonized or not harmonized or anything like that -- anything (human relations, etc.) object, anything, any being. So when he looks at a person's face -- his body is the center. What are this man's characteristics? Right there he sees that.

He sees not only the external appearance -- he sees more. Sometimes the center of the person is the hips -- too wide; sometimes the legs are too long. Sometimes they are balanced or unbalanced -- is it beautiful there or ugly there? So when he looks at the face, is it harmonized or not?... location of the eyebrows or nose -- how is it situated, how is it located? He sees that. When he looks at the mouth, he sees the arrangement of the teeth. He sees the characteristics of this guy or this girl -- right there.

When he looks at someone's hairstyle -- he feels bad, he just doesn't like it -- suddenly, he sees why he doesn't like it, he finds some error there. If that face becomes a looking-down face, if you are all the time gloomy -- then the gloominess becomes ugly. Even when you laugh or smile your smile will be sinking down, while it should be lifted up; because of this kind of facial expression, you have the wrong expression. Sometimes laughing or smiling helps somebody to climb up -- it is giving an uplifting feeling -- sometimes the smiling will come up. This kind of thing, he sees this in you people. Subject-object relationship based on Principle, he sees this way; he Principally sees and talks and lives it.

So when you look at him, in a second he picks everything up, right there. Now Mr. Om is an expert in the whole of his life. And our Master, Father, looks at this fountain, he looks at it differently -- right there, he gives a critique -- what the center is. He is the only specialist in the world -- our Master knows everything. Then he said, Mr. Om said, "Where did you learn all this, specially?" If the specialist looks at something -- what he says should fit the Principle. If truth is truth, beauty is beauty, and so forth. So, he cannot be contradictory. So an expert's view should correspond to his view -- because he is based on the Principle. Even a necktie, when he picks it up and gives it to somebody, he sees it in different combinations. The changing variety of beauty -- even in wearing a man's tie -- always brings a different handsomeness or beautification.

So if you have got this kind of talent -- you have got to be based on the Principle -- then automatically, you will train yourself to see this way, to have a deep perception. So even if he sits by himself, he does not feel lonely. Everything -- many things to look at this way he is enjoying it, even when he is alone. He creates another curiosity, another interest. All day, by himself, he is doing something else. Somebody may say, "Why is he sitting all day here?" But he is doing something else, internally. We all see the trees, the highway, all the grasses -- why is this planted here? He is criticizing and trying to relocate it. He has his own hobby, heavenly hobby, even when he is alone. For this, he needed training. It did not come about overnight.

When you confront hardship, trouble and suffering, this is a symbol that goodness or happiness shall come through this hardship. You have to indoctrinate yourself. Hardship and trouble are necessary for us to overcome, to bring others. This is a sinful world anyway, a world full of junk. You don't think that way, you never thought about that -- this kind of philosophical connotation. Trouble is for future happiness. Then, if you get through the persecution and the trouble, when you pass through, happiness comes, success comes -- there is a real feeling of success. There is value right there, because you have a comparison: hardship is overcome, and then success comes.

When you have more hardship, more persecution, more rejection, then you expect more success, more happiness, more good results. That is the way you have to dive into this thinking, this kind of positivity. You will have the attitude, "What kind of trouble is coming, what kind of hardship is coming?" You are interested to know what will be next; you look forward to the problems. If you are scared, you are right there a victim, bait for the devil, Satan. If you are this type of person, you will never get it, you are not qualified. Instead of tackling the problem, you escape, scared. That is exactly the way that Satan wants you to be.

Now, if you want to be a number one honor student, that is not easy -- you have to go to work hard. You cannot cheat. Honor students... it is not easy. So if the trend is that all average American boys and girls, men and women, escape from trouble, while our Unification Church members go in and tackle and solve the problem -- naturally, they will respect you as a leader of this nation. Why not look for trouble? So, he wants you to have more training; he thinks you need more training. Then, how do you think now? How do you feel right now? [Great!]

If you have knowledge, if you know the meaning of something, you feel wonderful, beyond the physiological barrier, or inconvenience. So the Bible says that if you know the truth, the truth will make you free. That is exactly what he is talking about.

Now, only one person -- one question will be answered. You have the feeling, "If I meet our True Parents, I will ask him a directed, serious question." Then, only one person will be allowed at this moment to ask him a question before our formal conference begins. Now, who has a serious question? A deeper question, which cannot be answered by your local teachers. Only one person, who has a meaningful question, can have this privilege-it must be a serious question.

Question: What is the meaning of Brezhnev coming to the United States?

Answer: You better ask President Nixon -- write him. That is a serious political question, but not for this setting.

Question: Well-most of us have come from Christian backgrounds and a question that has really been bothering me is: exactly how much did Jesus accomplish because it seems like he accomplished very little. I just wondered how much he really did accomplish.

Answer: Nothing. There was but one thing left. He died for God and heaven -- that is the only thing he accomplished. He died, "Not my will, but I'll die for God" -- that is the only thing he left. Nothing was accomplished, nobody, no disciples at all, nothing, just death. Christianity started after his death.

How serious have you been? How serious have you felt when eating? Have you thought about it? There is a seriousness in everything. Even at this moment, many people are dying -- for this serious aspect -- because of the food problem. How seriously have your eyes been looking at the people? Have you thought how seriously you wanted to see those persons -- seriously wanted to see somebody through your eyes? How seriously have you wanted to listen through the physical part of your ear? How seriously are you trying to touch with your sense of touch? How serious have you become?

How seriously have you felt within yourself -- your feelings, inside, how serious have you have become? So this degree of seriousness in these five senses must be different in you -- in everybody to a different degree. We cannot see this. Always, when you look at this, there is a difference in seriousness; you cannot say that you started from the same point of seriousness of these five senses -- you never started there. When you are working, how seriously have you thought while you are working, "Why am I working; why am I walking on the street?" Have you seriously thought about that? Even your sleeping: instead of just sleeping biologically, how much have you been sleeping with a meaningful seriousness? How seriously have you ever thought about something coming from your mouth -- the word of God?

During your 30 years of age (using this as an example), during which years have you ever seriously spent your life? How much of that time have you spent seriously? When (in relation to this question), you are not absolutely serious, you are just casually passing by. When you look at this kind of a thing, when you look at your body, your person as a person, this means you did not think seriously of God's will. Naturally, we can reach safely... your body, yourself, was not becoming seriously centered on God's will.

If you become serious with your five senses, in everything, then naturally your being, yourself, will fit God's overall plan, dispensation or will. It is supposed to be fitting. When your friend or relative is dying, then you become serious -- but we have here a much more serious condition. When you are doing God's will, things are more serious than people dying, more important than your best friend dying. So, to what degree must we become more serious in centering on God's will?

There are many, many serious things in this world. One's family may be destroyed or corrupted, there may be a national disaster; but God is more serious, it is more serious to do God's work, to center on God's will. You have to realize this. [If God's will is not fulfilled] then the whole nation will be destroyed, not just families and individuals. There is a more serious dispensational meaning behind God's will than the idea that the whole world is going to be doomed to destruction. If this nation of America -- God's blessed nation -- does not become serious in taking this kind of responsibility, according to God's point of view, then God's will, will be nullified.

This nation will then be destroyed. If there are any groups of people who think along this line, who are concerned about the destiny of the world as a whole -- even if America is doomed to destruction -- then God will be with this kind of group -- if they are more concerned about the world than about their own national situation. If there are no groups in this nation who are this serious, then God will find people in another country -- people who are more serious and more dedicated than any other persons or nations in the world. God would be pleased with them. There is no [other] salvation. Even if God smites that nation, that is the only group of people that can save that situation. Thus, God will abide with that group.

Even those spirits who died in America, if they don't have this type of seriousness, then there is no way for them to be saved, even in the spirit world. Do you understand, at least vaguely? You don't know how our Master, the True Parents, are serious about God's will -- nobody knows. So, all the time you criticize him, centering on yourself, not centering on God's will -- there is a vast difference.

If you do not succeed this time, by following His will, there will be more hardship. There is no other way to come out and save the whole nation, the whole world. This is a serious problem: centering on God's will. How serious are you about centering on God's will? The Heavenly Father and our Master are seriously looking at everything, perceiving everything centered on God's will. This is a most serious matter. We have to go beyond the waiting for God; we have to go beyond that. We have to be proactive -- beforehand, you should be ahead of His plan.

If you are serious enough, you will do that. That's why he is talking about this issue, this problem of seriousness centering on God's will. There is a difference between your seriousness and God's seriousness. It cannot be the relative position...There is a vast difference, if you are in this relative position. So, when you think about it, we have no room for complaint. We have, after all, only the value of death. We are dead already. So you cannot say that it is too hard, too much suffering. [Gaining] heaven requires much more suffering and rejection, and is much harder. If you think about this: if you retreat from that position, you will get in trouble.

We are different from worldly people. We have to be serious in centering on God's will not on our own. All ways of education in this country stress freedom, the wrong freedom -- they got it, they were brought up that way, they were educated that way -- but it does not fit in the new kingdom. So [the individual has] become the standard: "I am my own standard." Thousands of people, thousands of scales -- there should be one standard, one scale somewhere. If you have this kind of "freedom"-different understandings or standards of what are right, then later you will have a collision and fighting. There should be but one true standard. All other standards should be based on the true standard.

Even in building a house, you start at one point, as in the drawing, the blueprint. The designer had a center from the start, and that center is right there, no other center but that one. Then the angles come out correctly; all varieties of drawings and designs come out centering on God's standard. So, if they said, "I will draw my own line, this is my center" -- no, you cannot do that. This drawing is the only one. If we do not practice this way, very soon, the nation of America will be doomed to destruction. So, the same thing has to apply in centering on God's will -- there is no "I," no "me."

The main thing is: how serious are you as a State Representative? How serious must you be as a Mobile Unit Commander? How serious do you have to be as a Church Center Director? Then you say, "I will do it." God must come first, not "me" first, not "my" circumstances first. Heaven is very serious; God's will is serious. So, you would be then adding more trouble to God's will, you will not be relieving the burden of God and our True Parents. You are adding more negative things to it. If you are not gaining positive results, you are actually making more trouble for God and True Parents. It would be better if you did not exist.

How many of you try hard not to sleep when you are sleepy because you have to do something, something of God's will centering on the True Parents? How many of you are resisting your sleepiness? How serious are you about something that you cannot overcome? How can you have difficulty in seriousness? So, have you thought about that? Be more serious persons. You have to think along these lines, centering on God's will. That is the problem right now.

The more trouble, the more hardship you have, the more serious you should be about centering on God's will. It will be wonderful -- your seriousness and God's seriousness approaching each other. That is a serious situation; that is the area where you are really contributing something. And the problem is, even if 50 Mobile Unit Commanders in the process of forming new mobile teams... Father is certain that if you have eight people you will have another van for your transportation. Then think, "How I am going to get eight people?" How soon? Have you been seriously thinking about accomplishing this goal -- even if you have only four people?

Have you ever thought that, in this position, you should be more serious than heaven, more serious than anyone else in your country, more serious than any of your members? If you did that, you would have a better position by now; then all difficulty would be clearing away for you. You must become serious in this matter, even in forming a new mobile unit. If you are not serious, if you are not doing things on a continual basis, then no spiritual help will be given, you are not on the track, you are not fulfilling yourself. So you have to be serious.

You have to be really getting on the right track. If you cannot be serious enough, then you have to consult your members or your assistant, so that you can have an extension of this kind of successful period -- and through this you will get serious thinking. So, if you are not serious enough to qualify for the leader's position, you have to find your successor within your group, so that you can retreat while the other one climbs into your place. This is instead of trying to hold your empty position, with no result, just sinking down -- you can't do that. Have you ever thought about someone who is going to die or be sent to jail... if you save them, you become their saviors in that case. Seriously, you become saviors, if you can save the other person.

This is the question: how much are you saviors? How much have you been saviors since being in our group? Do you long for the people to come and listen to your lectures? Are you serious when you look out the window and think, "When is she coming, when is he coming, when?" You have become involved in this serious situation; your heart should become serious. And if you have this kind of seriousness, the people will automatically flock to you. That is the secret right there.

So, if you are serious enough, you will get up early, you will want to be moving, centering on this world, then you wonder, "Why doesn't the early morning come? I want to teach the people. I want people to be coming to the morning lecture." Have you ever thought about it in a serious way? Have you thought, "I am expecting somebody"? You must be longing for this kind of situation. From this, you become serious. So, if you are serious, and yet nobody comes, he wants to tell you not to be discouraged.

Then, even if they don't come once, twice, a third time, heaven loves you; so heaven will give full cooperation according to how much you have been serious. Maybe the second time, nobody comes; third time, nobody comes; fourth time, somebody comes; and by that time -- very easily impressive scene -- suddenly people will join, and that is the way it works -- through your serious thinking, centered on God's will. Have you ever practiced it? Then, when you meet some new person, you feel you have met somewhere else. So there is no reason for you to talk -- people together, spirit to spirit, mind to mind, crying with each other -- right there.

So, when somebody is leaving after a lecture, you want them to stay, even want to give seriously of your heart of God, you want to give something. You have become involved seriously -- you really love somebody -- have you ever done this? If a person comes to your center and you meet them, they cannot go out easily. So, if this person feels this kind of serious heart of God (from you, our Master, the True Parents) -- even though you don't ask them to come back, they will automatically do so. They will automatically come to your place. This depends on how serious you have been centering on this work, centering on this Gospel. So how serious are you when you lecture, study and teach the Divine Principle, which was so difficult for our True Parents to discover, to bring to us. How serious are you?

Master discovered the Principle in the dungeon of hell, dungeon of suffering. Even though you cannot attain that same degree, how serious have you become in teaching, learning and studying-that is when your serious heart is important. So, when you look at each page, you cannot do so without tears, experiencing his suffering, his hardship -- his suffering in order to find this message for all mankind. Have you ever thought about that?

Do you think that any Korean missionary whom he sent to this country -- the leaders -- do you think any one is more serious than our Master? No? Without this kind of education, you may say, "I am close to God; I know better than our True Parents." You can never say that, and never think it. If God is a fair God, He knows everything; God will be that kind of character to people of our True Parents, of our Master. So, you have to critically evaluate yourself; be critical about yourself. On whom are you centering? Where are you fitting in, where are you standing in the world of God's heart?

You have destroyed your body -- you are an enemy right there -- you are trying to eat for yourself, not God. You have to see something lost or bad, evil, instead of God's centering with you. And the same thing here: your whole body is not centered on God's will, it is centered on you. You have to claim yourself, you have to evaluate yourself. So, even in this context, you should never lose your seriousness. If your intentions along this line are not serious, there is no room for you in this universe -- you cannot exist. So you are naturally so prideful at times; you act as if you know everything. In that sense, there is a vast difference between Master and you.

When you come to Belvedere you have to be serious and think, "Why have I come here? Why am I here?" To be serious -- how serious are you, being here -- chosen to be here. This is worthwhile. You have to evaluate yourself: compare the old you before the Principle message with the new you after the Principle message -- and then the new you as a leader of this movement. You have to evaluate yourself. You have to criticize yourself: "What is my family doing? Is it standing for God's will; am I seriously doing His will?" You have to think of that. Why did he (Master) do all this, for what purpose -- for your own love, for your pleasure? So, man-woman, brother-sister -- all relationships -- you have to be serious, too. Why do we have to be this way?

These things are from July 1st, when we set up the Day of Resolution of Victory. From now on, you have got to make it work -- the times are in favor of us. You have to re-evaluate and re-locate yourself at a different level. So you have to pledge yourself, swear yourself and your life -- with determination -- as a Commander, as a State Representative, as a Church Center Director -- you have to make a new commitment. Until you fulfill your promised pledge, you have no room for complaint, no time for that. Because you are resting and doing something else, you cannot accomplish your mission. If you cannot accomplish things the first time, try twice or a third time. There is no room for failure if you do it this way. Under these circumstances we cannot think that it is too hard for us to carry out. So you should pledge your life first, in front of God, to do your mission, in this serious setting.

Even the almighty God took a providential course of 6,000 years. We are going to do it in our own generation, centering on our True Parents. Then, how much harder we have to work. 6,000 years God took to make it possible for this time to come. And you think, "I am a big shot, I am a Commander." You are so self-complacent. State Representatives: you have a certain power, you are able to occupy the position without any results -- this is your fault.

In the Principle, you must be more serious than God, more serious than anyone else to do your mission in the best way possible. You have the subject position -- which is serious -- even if you have to cater to your ancestors. You have to be a good influence in your mission, not only for your relatives. You must have serious thinking. Even if the Heavenly Father has been working with someone for a long time, if he is doing his own will and his own hobby, then God is not going to work with him. Because he is a savior for the Heavenly Father, that is why He is working with him. Don't you think so? [YES!]

America is going to be doomed to destruction. Who is going to save this nation? The person or group which is more serious than any other will save this nation. Is he mistaken or is he logical? [Logical!] So, you have to think of going to three million state residents there: "I am obligated to give the light to these people. Even during the night our light, the candle light, is shining -- so that these people can come. I am the only one who can do this work to save these people." Even during your sleep think, "Please, Father, give me more power to save these people." Such serious thinking -- you need it. By doing so, heaven will help you. Everyone will be proud of you before your ancestors, because you are better than they in this area of hard work and seriousness. Do you understand so far? [YES!]

Even when you are eating delicious food, he wants you to think, "It is really delicious, centered on God's will" -- in a serious way -- meaning just that. If you reason this way, you will know where you are standing and how to proceed, how you are going to fulfill -- your answer will be coming. Do you understand? [YES!]

So, don't be ashamed, don't have a shameful feeling, if you have only a small house as a church center. Don't feel that. Even though you live in a very poor house, if you are serious, you are a spiritual child, you are a heavenly treasure right there. When he started from North Korea, he started from Pusan (southern part of Korea) -- a small place there, he set up a small cottage. It was actually less than a cottage -- it was just like a dog's house. Now, pilgrims are coming to this place -- they cry -- there are pilgrimages on a continual basis, from Japan and Korea. There is a world of heart-seriousness -- it is there, because he shed his blood, his sweat and his tears.

Even if you have no material house, there is something different right there, so don't be discouraged or ashamed when you have a poor house. But you have to carry in your heart a seriousness centered on God. Do you believe it? [YES!] Even if the house is humble and looks very poor and unacceptable, if you carry this heart, there is the center of the heart in your state right there. Your heavenly, serious process begins from right there.

If you have this kind of heart, if you [persevere] this way, it in fact shall happen -- because he did it. And people will automatically come. They will come to you even when you have no money and even no food -- many people will come around. Spiritual cooperation will come. So if you continue to work with this kind of heart of gold, spiritual cooperation will come -- these people should be fed. So the ancestors of that state, in spirit world, have to mobilize and bring the people to you, to get rid of your sorrowful heart. That is the way it works.

Now, he is thinking, when he comes to America, "How much more serious can I be than I was in Korea, in the early days? I have to be more serious than President Nixon, or any of the American senators or congressmen." That is his way of thinking. He wants to be more serious than anyone else in this country. This is illogical; but with proper analysis, through this kind of thinking, he is positively serious. Even if somebody temporarily departs from this work, then ultimately, at a later date, months or years later, they have to come back -- because all the personal circumstances will be doomed to be judged -- so that they have to mobilize after they are in the spirit world -- eventually, they will have to come back. No other place to go. Once they are in here, they have to come back. This is the Principle.

Poor people sympathize more with other poor people. It's the same in the world of heart: we sympathize more with a person in the same world of heart. So when you think seriously of God's will, you unconsciously have a chance, you have the experience of shedding your tears, unconsciously. You have experienced God's role. Do you think of God, and suddenly start praying? You will experience the seriousness in your tears. He is still living this kind of life of hard work. So when you pray, when he prays... It is logical: to go to heaven, you have got to have the heart of God, with seriousness centering on His will. So there is a vast difference between us and our True Parents. With a heart of sacrifice you have to be carrying out this approach -- eliminate the past.

In America, you think, even in the Family -- instead of God's will first, you are concerned more with your future: "My part to be." You are concerned more about that. Frankly speaking, you are more concerned about your spouses than about God's will. Now, when you look at the girls or handsome boys, do you think to yourself, "I would like to have that handsome man for my husband," or do you think, "How am I going to make this man God's child?"

Frankly speaking, which one have you been thinking? Principally, speaking, which is normal, which one should it be: "That girl is wonderful, my wife to be," or "I am going to make this girl God's daughter"? Which one is better, Principally speaking? [Second one!] They know better. Now you know that, but sometimes you don't. So, that is the wrong idea (the first one). You have to love God first, more than your future whatever -- your husband or wife.

Then whenever you say to God, "I don't ever think of it -- everything is up to You," and you do it this way, then the best husband, best wife will be provided by God. That is the little secret there. So, when there is a head there, there is a tail there, the end of... the Alpha and the Omega. If you are put in the Omega -- you naturally are coming there -- if you convert this boy or this girl, automatically -- leave everything to Him -- you will have it. But your reasoning is to want it -- you are short-sighted -- that's the problem. So you have to think Principally, not the American way, not the sexual way, not the democratic way-but Principally.

So, from now on, when you have to come here, reason this way, live this way and think this way. You have to think -- if you are really qualified to be the State Representative for that state -- all the souls are dying. You have to evaluate yourself critically: are you qualified for this state, are you a qualified Commander, are you a qualified Church Center Director? So, you have to receive more training if you are not qualified, instead of holding that heavenly position without any qualification.

If you people are not qualified, if God's help is not there, it is non-Principled; you will get into trouble. So, without any help you are standing up -- catch up, set up the condition -- you have to drive yourself very hard. Prayer is wonderful. Pray before going out, to bring the people that way; it is more effective. Action! Practice! Then God will take this humble boy or not-so-beautiful girl -- doing wonderful -- then God will come to them and say that is wonderful, and He will be with you and love you more and give you more good luck. It is not your knowledge, not your ability, not your talent -- the heart of the world is God's heart. If it is your heart also, if you carry that, it is right. You must be serious -- then everything will be in your favor.

So, when you go back, always think of it -- criticize yourself, evaluate yourself effectively -- and He will help you this way, when you go back. Practice this way, reason this way, think this way -- then you will have good results.

You could Join This Movement Because of Your Ancestors

The reason you joined the Unification movement is not that you have such great personal merit or strong faith. You could join because of your ancestors, the thousands of generations of your ancestors' sacrifice, service, and goodness for the sake of God. Therefore, what will become of you if you do not follow me and work for the nation and world? Your ancestors will be angry and accuse you of being irresponsible when you go to the spirit world; you'll have no place to go. But if you accomplish your mission and then go to spirit world, you'll be welcomed and served by your ancestors.

Remember that you came here not based on your own greatness; you've been mobilized by the spirit realm. I came here in order to accomplish a historic task, and God prepared the corresponding environment for me. It is in accordance with the principle of creation that the environment is prepared; everything in the world must go through a period of growth. Accordingly, spirit world mobilized you when I came.

Therefore, you should not lead an easy life. You should discard your habitual ways of thinking and you should set your mind on goodness; work with all your heart, remembering the standard of spirit which you received from me today.

Now let us pray.

Beloved, precious Father in heaven,

Throughout eons of history, You have established many religions in order to liberate Your grieving heart. By sacrificing many faithful central figures, You have been proceeding toward the ultimate victory of Your love. When I contemplate this history and how much indemnity was paid and how many people suffered, I feel very sorry for heaven.

You have prepared things so that we can welcome the new era. Let this Unification movement flourish on the earth. You made it possible, Heavenly Father, for Reverend Moon to come on the earth and disclose to us today these crucial words. Let us understand this message. We are grateful for You, and for this great world, and we show it by raising both our hands. We have pledged and we pledge again to march forward at the risk of our lives on any battlefield for the sake of Your will. We sincerely ask You, Father, to receive this, our resolution, with joy.

Here, representatives of many nations have gathered, beyond their own nationalities. Please guide and govern those here. You made us unite centering upon heavenly love, and You have melted together natural enemies and have been developing the sphere of love. Now we understand all these things. So we have pledged to You not to take any action which opposes the tradition of Your will, no matter what circumstances we are put in. We are grateful for the fact that we could pledge this. And please continue to encourage us so that we can become people who press on despite any persecution. We pledge to go forward effectively using our time remaining until we usher in the ideal world of Your will.

I sincerely ask You to guide us in the direction of Your will so that we can follow it unerringly. I sincerely ask this, and offer this prayer in the name of True Parents. Amen.

Parents' Day Address

As you well know, today is the 14th Anniversary of the Parents' Day. Today I am going to speak about the significance of Parents' Day. In this world there are many days to be celebrated. Nations have their own days of celebration. To the people of each nation, those are days to be celebrated and happy days for them, but there have not been such days to be celebrated under God. For God, the day of creation of His first son and daughter was a day of hope and happiness; and centered on Adam and Eve, too, that day must have been the day of hope and happiness. The day of Adam's fall was the day that caused misery and grief to God, instead of happiness. God's hope and ideal were nullified on that very day -- that was the day of grief and sorrow, and more than anyone else, God was grievous and sorrowful. Ever since the day of grief, God has been developing His Providence of Restoration in order to have His children back to His bosom.

In order for Him to have that happy day back, He had chosen the nation of the Israelites and prepared them to receive the Messiah. As you read in the Bible, at the ford of Jabbok, Jacob won over the angel. At that moment God must have been happy, but that happiness cannot be compared to the happiness if Adam had not fallen. When Moses led his people towards the blessed land of Canaan, there must have been happiness, too; but that also could not excel the happiness God could have enjoyed if Adam and Eve had not fallen. God wanted to lead His people out of the land of Israel into the blessed land of Canaan, but by the disbelief of the people, by the rebellion of the people, Moses could not carry out his mission; and at that time, God's grief was so great. The chosen nation of the Israelites ended up in a failure that caused God's grief again, deeply carved in His heart. Moses was a failure because of the disbelief and disobedience of his people, but God then had to choose Joshua and Caleb in his place to lead the second generations into the land. But God was grievous of the fact that He had to do those things over again.

We know too well when we read Israelitic history, that even after the people entered the land of Canaan they repeated being rebellious against God. Then God had to have Gentile people go against His own people. If people were not obedient when they were blessed, God had to smash them to Gentile hands. But God did not and could not discard His people all through history. Over several thousand more years, God had to prepare His people to receive the Messiah. After having prepared His chosen people, God would have the Messiah restore those people back to His bosom; and through Jesus as the mediator, He wanted to enjoy the happiness of His own people. God had set His hope on the day to come when His people would be united into one with the Messiah -- so as to glorify Him -- and for Him to be proud of His people. The day could have been a proud day for God, not only for God but for the Messiah himself and for the people, also. But, because of the rebellion of the people to Jesus, Jesus could not accomplish his mission and God's grief was so great as to excel the grief of when He first lost His children. For Jesus part, he understood God's Heart, he understood every particular of what God has in mind, so he was grievous of the same fact and he had to meditate over how to sooth God's Heart. While he had to restore happiness to God and make Him proud of His children, his mission was nullified and grief was caused in God's Heart. So before the crucifixion, before the fate in which he had to die, he was so serious and grave and heartache was there.

Jesus was there for his own family, own nation and for the whole world, but because of the disbelief of the chosen nation and especially the disbelief in his own family he could not fulfill his primary mission. So after having nullified his mission, he was so grievous and with a consoling heart had to turn to God and God had to put him on the cross; but He would provide resurrection for him to make his mission even a one-sided success. Jesus knew that if he would die, there would be no one else who could really return joy and happiness to God. The chosen nation of the Israelites, which God had so long prepared, disbelieved; and there was rebellion among his own disciples. So finally he had to take his three main disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane. We remember that Jesus was so serious as to kneel down before God in prayer, but what did his disciples do? Three main disciples of his were there, near him in slumber. All the Israelites who were supposed to return happiness to God were gone and his disciples, too, were rebellious; and then Jesus felt that he was left all alone. Jesus told his disciples to sleep and relax and he proclaimed that there were days to come in darkness. This was at the end of 4,000 years in history in which God had prepared the chosen nation of Israel. But, Jesus knew too well that God had to realize His providence and even upon death he remembered that and would leave this earth with that in mind.

While all the rest of the people were in utter darkness, the Messiah had to cling to the ideal of God and could not give it up. So even after his death, resurrection could come about to raise him from death. Would you imagine that God was happy to see the resurrected Jesus? He could have been happier to see Jesus, the newborn baby, with full hope and mission ahead of him. God was not happy at all to see the resurrected Jesus. The fact that he had to die was a grievous one and God's Heart was torn in two. God's intention was to have Jesus accomplish his mission both on the physical and spiritual levels, but his physical level of things being unaccomplished, he had to die on the cross with only things on the spiritual level accomplished.

In Jesus' day, there was the chosen nation of the Israelites on the physical level and they had the nation under God but these people failed in being cooperative with God. After his death Jesus accomplished his mission only on the spiritual level and after that the Christian people of the whole world had no footstool for the family or nation. So, everything taking place in Christendom, from the things on the individual level, to the family level, national level and worldwide level -- only on the spiritual level -- there has been no footstool for that. Having been deprived of a foothold, the Jewish people had to scatter all over the world without having their own nation. God's intention was to have His chosen people succeed in their mission both on the spiritual and physical levels, but now that they had failed, He had to rely on the Christian people scattered all over the world and they were doing things on the spiritual level only, and God was not pleased with them, of pleased to see them. In the Christian world, any family, and group of any church, any nation should have to strive for the day to come when it could return happiness and joy to God. But, in Christian world never such a thing has taken place. At the close of the age in the latter days, God would want to have His chosen people and have them accomplish that mission left unaccomplished by Jesus, by His working through this group. The day is what we call the Day of the Second Coming of the Lord. In that day, the Lord of the Second Coming will be here to locate his bride. He would look for his bride and find one -- but before doing that he must fight against all the Satanic power and after having repelled those powers, he can erect his home, his family -- being the central one in the whole world.

Why are we here? What are we here for? We are here to eradicate the failures caused by our passed away saints and prophets and by the people in the Christian world and we are going to erect a world in which we will have accomplished our mission, left by Jesus. Up to the present moment, God has been a grievous God; and there are many particulars to have caused God to be grievous. But, do you think that we have welcomed in and ushered in the day in which God can be happy? In order for you to be able to do that you must be greater and better than Jesus himself and all the passed away saints and prophets, and better than Adam and Eve before their fall. But are you situated in that position, better off than Adam and Eve before their fall? Never so, but it is because you are in the fallen sphere besieged by Satanic power.

We are in the place of Jesus, but we are going to carry out our mission, which is greater than Jesus; therefore, we must not create the same involvement as did Jesus. We must have our people obey the command of the Lord to come and make our mission a success at all costs. Even at the risk of our own lives, we have to erect the nation of our own and nation of God's choice and have them be cooperative with our mission and help carry out the mission as a success. If we are really children of God, with filial piety and knowing God's grievous Heart, we cannot celebrate our own birthdays in happiness. We cannot celebrate the days for the nation, for the family, for the whole world. We can take no pride in those things. In celebrating those days, we are always having God meet grievous days all over again.

In the simple history of mankind, we have gone through so many difficulties under God's providence and we have set up several holy days to be celebrated. Above all others, the fact that we have established a Parents' Day is of historical importance. This is the day to be celebrated with the whole part of yours, because this is not like any ordinary day to be celebrated. We are still far below the standard of God's expectation of us, but for us to be celebrating this precious Parents' Day is of great joy and privilege. After going through the days of curse and unhappiness, we are here to enjoy the day in happiness and joy. We must know that we could not have erected this day -- set up this day -- if we had not been able to fight against national power to erect a nation of our own, even on the spiritual level. With these particulars and contents, Master could erect the day, despite all the objections and persecutions by the outside world. At that point, we could inherit what the Christian people have accomplished on the spiritual level to the physical level of things and we are at the starting point to enter the New Age as the 3rd Israelites. We must be awakened to the fact that we are the chosen people of the 3rd Israelites and we must realize that our mission is great.

The first Adam and second Adam have both been failures -- well, Jesus being the failure on the physical level is what he means -- and we are now entering the age in which we have the 3rd Adam as the central figure and we have to make this mission a success, under his guidance. We are here for that mission, both on the physical and spiritual levels. There are Satanic powers still around us -- both physical Satans and spiritual Satans -- but we are in the battlefield to fight against that dark force and our mission must be a success, made a success by us. We are warriors on the front line. Satan has hitherto tortured our ancestors, our predecessors, and they would accuse and they would try to nullify their mission; but we are now here, immune and being the stronghold for the dark force to fight and win over us. We must be ready to win over Satan, saying to them, "well, you have been torturing our predecessors in this way and that, and you are here to come against us, but we will never be defeated by you. We will reclaim happiness and joy from you and leave everything belonging to darkness to you and you cannot win over our group." We have been going through such hardships and struggle in the fight against the dark force. In the battlefield, we cannot be overwhelmed with the darkness, we cannot be defeated by the darkness, but we have to be determined to overcome all those powers, conquer and win over Satan. Even though we are on the verge of life or death, we must be thinking of how to bring joy and happiness to God. You must be ready to die, because you know too well, that even if you are dead, even if you have to die, you will have accomplished your mission both on the spiritual and physical levels, to a certain extent at least. So, you are not going to be a failure, but a success. It is a wonderful fact that while Jesus did not have anyone left behind him who could inherit what was accomplished by him, we have our descendants, our group, who are going to inherit what we accomplished while in life even if we may have to die here.

As you well know, this is the first occasion in human history that the world has seen blessed couples. Up to the present, there have been many religions where they advocated celibacy- but not one encouraging blessedness, in marriage. It means that even though one of a couple may have to die -- there is still left his or her half, to accomplish the mission that was left unaccomplished by his or her spouse. Have you ever stopped to think of that? Are you ready to carry out your spouse's mission, when he or she would have to pass away? If you have not been contemplating over that, you must repent it and be prepared for that. Then alone you can be qualified members to be present at this celebration.

Fourteen years ago, we had our first Parents' Day -- that means that on that day, Master could repel the dark power of Satan, besieging the whole world and from then on we have been released from that power. We must be happy over the fact that there is a dedicated group in this world now, in which the children, instead of being grievous over their parents' death -- even though our True Parents may have to die -- instead of being grievous, will be determined to fight to accomplish the mission victoriously.

At the time of Jesus' death, there were two thieves crucified on both sides of Jesus, but at this time, there will be Master's disciples to be crucified and you are going to be willing to die in place of him or by him. Then, even before that or even in the face of death, you will be consoling each other and you can get rid of the accusation of Satan. Then you will have won over the power of death and from then on New Life will be animated and activated. Even if your parents would have to die, you will still inherit the things of virtue from then and you will still cherish the hope and happiness.

After the establishment of the Parents' Day in 1960, the Childrens' Day followed and then the World Day and now a few years ago, we could set up a God's Day. The 7 years were the years during which our True Parents have had to go through untold difficulty and darkness themselves, to fight against Satanic powers -- so these powers cannot invade you.

In the Christian world, the Christian population have accomplished things only on the spiritual level, but we could inherit those things accomplished on the spiritual level, to be connected with what we are, what our group is, in which things on both the spiritual level and the physical level are being accomplished.

After the first 7-year course, the 5th or 6th years in the second 7-year course, 1972, we have moved to the United States to work and develop our Providence to reach out to the whole world. In Adam's family, Adam and Eve as parents failed to carry out their mission, while their children Abel and Cain were failures, too. In these days, centering on our group, our True Parents will accomplish their mission and you, in utter obedience and belief in them, must be able to accomplish the mission to restore yourselves as true children to God.

Korea was in the position of the nation in Abel's position, but he was going to inherit, or connect, Korea to the United States, the leading nation of the whole world. That signifies that he is going to inherit what is accomplished in Korea, as the chosen nation, to the whole world. What Master is going to do here is to elevate the spiritual standard of this country to that of Abel's position, responding to what Korea has; and, from then on, to start our mission to reach out to the whole world to bring them to the same level. It is almost too late for him to come to the United States now, when he is in his 50's, but the battle was so fierce in Korea and he knew that only having made this battle in Korea a success and victory, could he come to this country to reach out to the whole world. He had to recover or restore the things undone in the past history, left unaccomplished, by the chosen people and saints of God' choice. He had to do so many varied things to accomplish those things left unaccomplished by his predecessors. That is what made it difficult and late for him to come to this country to develop this project here. Only having restored the things left unaccomplished by the first Israelites, could he establish the second Israelites. Only after having accomplished the mission left unaccomplished by the second Israelites, the Christian population, could he try to accomplish or begin to accomplish his mission with the people belonging to the third Israelites. Between our group and the chosen nation of the Israelites, there is an historical relationship. Centering on the Christian world, our group has something to do with the United States -- we have relationships of historical importance here.

Back in Korea he could restore what was unaccomplished by the first Israelites and things unaccomplished by the second Israelites, the Christian population. Then he could develop some portion of God's providence on the level of the third Israelites. All those things will be done on the spiritual level. By having done that he could bring over those things to connect to the United States. And here, on the horizontal level, he can connect the first Israelites and the second Israelites, the Christian world, and then our group; those three will be connected on the horizontal level. The fact that our members came from so many nationalities from Europe, corresponds to the fact that the forefathers of the American people came to this continent in search of freedom of religion, freedom of worship. Well, it is not a coincidence that we have many Jewish members here. Then, we will have many Christian people coming into our movement. How many Jewish members do we have? Hold up your hands.

On the horizontal level, we can connect first the Israelites (the Jewish people) and members of the Christian world, the established church Christians coming into our movement and the newborn members from other circumstances. With those three connected, we are somewhat like three brothers harmonious in oneness under the love of our Parents. The United States being the melting pot of many people from many nationalities, this is something like the descendants of the first Israelites, second Israelites and third Israelites connected with us. We want to unite these people or bind these people into harmonious oneness and then train them and dispatch them to every corner of the world, to reach out to every man.

The first Israelites symbolize the Formation Stage, while the second Israelites represent the Growth Stage and the third Israelites represent the Perfection Stage. In another sense, the first Israelites symbolize material and the second Israelites represent man and the third Israelites, God and True Parents. The fact that the United States has been blessed with abundance by God and this abundance is the target of almost worship, respect and envy from all the people of the world, this in the symbolic term has something to do with God's providence. There is also providential significance in the Jewish people having tremendous wealth under them. Then, what do we as the Unification Family have different from others or what is characteristic of us or our virtues? We have God's love here and because of that, for this we are going to be respected, envied and worshipped by other people, because we have love of God under True Parents' love and all of mankind are brothers and sisters with the common True Parents. We are going to occupy the world of heart, the world of love. This is the only thing that can make us the sons and daughters of God, make us the central movement of people's envy and respect and we must make it the mainstream of our thought, the core of our ideology. It is a wonderful fact that we have paved the way up to now and here like this and here we sing the love of our True Parents and we advocate the brotherhood of mankind and even the Satanic power will be subjugated by us. It is a wonderful thing to have Parents in common. We have a new concept, new consciousness -- up to the present moment we have thought highly of our physical parents, physical family, physical relatives and clan and physical nation and world. But those ideas and concepts fade away from us and there is a new family, a new tribe ... born out of God's love and we are strongly connected with each other in harmonious oneness. This is what makes us a most wonderful group. This is miracle of miracles which history has never seen. Do you believe in that? [YES!]

When we look into our selves, we must cry out to God, soothing His heart, saying, "Father, you don't have to worry about us." You can say to God, "after having gone through such bitterness to eradicate the sinful power in past history, we are not willing -- we don't feel like looking back to our past -- but we are headed for the future, to the goal you have set before us and we are the warriors on the battlefield and we will not rest until we obtain the goal -- so don't worry about us." If any power would come and want to drag us back and holding our arms, we would be willing to cut off our arms but be headed for the goal.

In the days of Adam and Eve, they whispered to each other for a plot of evil though and in that way they were tempted to fall. But, in this group, among the members, we will whisper from ear to ear, encouraging each other to strengthen ourselves to win the goal, to make it a victory, to return to God. We must know that Satan is still active and works day and night. So we must not be frustrated, we must work day and night and in more strength and in more zeal until we can win over the last one, Satan. With this done alone, the passed away saints and the people of the Israelites would smile at us and rely on us saying that, "you are a success in place of us" and all the Christian people who have once been against our movement and been persecuting us would be astonished at the fact that we are winning the minds of the people of the world and they will try to come and belong to us. And our group, as the third Israelites, will become a success to glorify. Therefore, we must be able to restore the sovereignty in such a sense that we can reign over the world with God's dignity. God blessed the Jewish people with material abundance and God has been on the side of the Christian people helping them out, but He has been a failure, more or less, in that way. But now to see us, our group, being so active and being so dedicated to carry out our missions to glorify God after having fought against Satan and won over him, then He will smile at us and be pleased and take Sabbath.

During this tour of mine, which is the 4th one, I am sure that God will bless us with material abundance. He will provide for us, provide manpower for us. More and more people will be coming to our movement. Can you feel that? [YES!] More than these two things, you want to become the heroes of God's love or the occupants of God's love. You want to monopolize God's love, don't you? [YES!]

One thing you must know is that however hard you may ask for wealth, ask for people, you will not be given and even though you may be given those things, it will not last long, without love there. With love there, the material abundance will be yours through eternity and the men you earn will be your people through eternity. We must put love before material, before man. If you are with wealth in which there is love planted, if you are with your spiritual children with whom you associate with love, then God will welcome you back to His bosom and you will be consoled and He can be consoled by you. Have you been doing that and are you determined to do that? [YES!] Well, it is easy to answer in the affirmative.

When you are blessed, you are blessed with three things: well, even though you don't have an abundance of material, you are more or less wealthy people already and your wealth in the blessed family will be an eternal one and you have parents over you and you have your own descendants -- children. With those in your family, you are sort of a contraction of the three stages -- formation, growth and perfection. When you enjoy the property, your wealth, you must pour out your love there first. You must love the thing which you are going to use and in having man ... you must put the value in him with your love towards him and your descendants. When you love them, you must love them by putting the value of the love over all other children of the world.

Well, in setting up the days of celebrations, Master had to do that in the reverse order, in the reverse way. He set up the Parents' Day first and then Childrens' Day and Worlds' Day -- which is all things day -- and then Gods' Day. It means coming down on the vertical line, but we must spread it out on the horizontal level. You must have your own Worlds' Day which is the day of all things and your own Childrens' Day, your own Parents' Day, to be celebrated in your own family -- do you have that? Only after having done this, you are victors both on the vertical and the horizontal level. You must be able to celebrate this day both on the vertical line, inheriting things from our Master, but you must have your own way of celebration, so as to spread out the things on the horizontal level, too.

If you are well aware of the fact, you must always think that what you are wearing is not yours, but God's. Your children are not your own, but God's. You, yourselves must be returned to God and after returning all you have back to God on the vertical level you will be elevated to that standard and there again you are going to be given those things and can enjoy as your own. Then, alone, your own Gods' Day, your own Parents' Day can be celebrated in your own family. Then, what we are here for is to inherit the tradition of the Parents' Day from Master on the vertical line, too, and have it celebrated on the horizontal base. You have to be able to do the same with Childrens' Day, the Worlds' Day and Gods' Day, or else you are not qualified enough to be present at this celebration. Then, if you have done this ... if you are in such an attitude, in such a mood, what we have to do here is to sing glory to God in praise of Parents' Day, in praise of Childrens' Day, Worlds' Day and Gods' Day. On this foundation, you must be able to celebrate those days on the family level, tribal level, national level and worldwide level and then you correspond to the Israelites who should have accomplished their mission on the family level, national level and entering the age of things on the worldwide level in which Jesus would not have died, but would have realized those things while in life. Without your even knowing this fact, I have gone through so many things to make these days possible, make it possible for these days to be established. To you, it is even difficult to understand what I am saying to you, I am afraid, but I have gone through such a difficult way to establish those days.

Now I am here in this great nation of the United States, which is the leading one of the world, and I can proclaim the message to these people, which is a mixture of all the nationalities and it is something like Jesus being able to cry out to the people of the Israelites and to the people of the Roman Empire, at that time, paving the way to reach out to the things on worldwide level. After having met so many senators and congressmen, 1 confirmed all the more, that we alone, our group alone, including myself can save this nation and save the whole world. We cannot rely on other people for that. We must train our selves to be steel -- as hard as steel, and this strong steel must be pointed and sharp and the handle must become wider and thicker. If we drill into the hard wall, then the opening will become wider, by the time we have pierced through the spear. There may be many Americans who are proud of the highways, paved with asphalt that links some 5,000 miles in all directions, but that is nothing before us. We are paving the way, connecting the east and west on the spiritual sense which is in a way more than physical things. You are automobiles and God is there as the driver and you are going to move at His will. Don't you want that road? [YES!] So, that He have wonderful time here (Master in English -- followed by applause)

We will dash you on the highway ... have you ever stopped to think -- so many people have died in paving this way. Then, would victims cry out against you saying, "'you are passing through the way paved at the sacrifice of our lives, don't you think about us?" Would they cry out to you like that? If they are good spirits, they would know that their purpose of paving the way was for you to dash on the way with full speed. And, they would be overjoyed to see you dashing on the road, instead of blaming you in not being thankful. Things are just the same with me. What I have gone through -- the bitterness I have gone through is to pave the way for you to go. Instead of thanking me, I want you to dash forward at full speed. I am anxious to have you obtain, the goal at the soonest possible date, without having to spend so many years, but at an instant, if possible. And, would you blame me for that? [NO!]

Well, time has passed ... would you want me to stop? [NO!] You see, I am perspiring all over, inside, everywhere. This is Parents' Day and you are not sympathetic with me...1 am joking. I have done that because I saw some dozing up here. Now you are awake. I will start again. (Applause) I will conclude section one. (Laughter)

In other words, history has seen so many days celebrated by the people, but God has never seen one in which He takes delight, and happiness. We are determined to erect the days to be celebrated in happiness -- to return happiness to God with our own hands. If we fail to do that in our lifetime, we must be determined to bring up our own children to be able to celebrate those days in full qualification; or we must influence our relatives and friends to be able to celebrate the days in full qualification. If we cannot have the people of our nation to do that, we can have the Gentile people to do that. If we fail to do all those things in our lifetime, even when we pass on to the next world ... we do the same in the spirit world. Then, sooner or later the core workers and fellow men on earth will pass away to the same world and in that place, you can be active in the same way and you can come to the earth, the second time, to help to do the things through individuals. We will go through those things on the individual level, family level, national level and worldwide level and if we fail to do that one time, we will try the second time, third time and we will do it so many times until success is brought about. If you are determined to make yourself a success and return glory and happiness to God, you must reawaken yourself. We know well enough that we have not been able to establish a nation of God's joy. Would you want to have God see that kind of nation? [YES!] Our one day corresponds to thousands of days in value ... we have to work it out. We must pour out our whole being into this project. We have got to make it a success ... to be returned to Him, God. Are you ready to dash forward to that goal? Would you be relaxed and in retreat? Would you wait for the day to come ... in eating and merrymaking-or would you dash forward, even though you have to go through fast. Can you, at all, be self-centered in this movement? You can never be that. Day or night, sleep or awake, you must realize that you are for this, this alone.

This is the 3rd of April, 1973 -- the 14th Parents' Day -- and on this memorable occasion, on this historical day, if you are resolved to carry out your mission with all your might, with all your energy and your being ... hold up your hands and pledge before God. LET US DASH FORWARD! Where, where are we going? First of all, we must dash forward to the battlefield ... to the front line, where there is hunger awaiting, thirst awaiting, sleeplessness. Only having won over and conquered those obstacles (dark things) we can see the light of victory. Let us advance forward, let us go straight forward -- those alone are our cries, battle cries. We must see the day in our lifetime, even if we may. have to die ... we want to see this day being realized -- or if God would seen even 1/10th of our members here would be so dedicated as to carry out their mission to make it a success, He will be overjoyed and happy. SO THAT WE CRY OUT -- MARCH ON! [YES!]

Good evening! We just had a telephone call from Korea; that is why we were delayed. Welcome home to Belvedere. I thank God that you are safely back. I can imagine that you have such long stories to tell each other, to tell me; I will be hearing from the State Representatives, Itinerary Workers and Mobile Team Commanders. But in case I don't have enough time for all of you, you must excuse me. I want you to feel my heart, and feel that my heart is reflected on your mirror; and God's concern for you, love for you, will be felt on this occasion, and I hope you will be able to go back refreshed, strengthened and revitalized. Some may have thought, "What a man! Master is stirring up the whole thing, and I cannot go on like this." In that case, excuse me. This is the last day of March, spring is here, and I hope the spring is everywhere, in every part of the earth.

Youth have so much to do with spring, and I am very regretful that you cannot enjoy the spring of your age; but in another sense, I can imagine that you are enjoying spring in the ultimate sense. I have to use my interpreter, and I am apt to look this way -- but don't you misunderstand, I keep sending my mind to that side.

This evening my subject is "Victory or Defeat in Accordance with the Time Element." Now is the time when we must conclude whether it will be victory or defeat, on the individual level, on the group level (like ours), on the national level and on the worldwide level. The situation in the whole world is like this. More so with the providence of God -- but in the outside world, also, the time has come for a final decision on serious matters. We who claim to be sons and daughters of God are grieved over the fact that our first human ancestors fell to darkness. We must solve this problem because we are God-loving people. A defeat or fall can come about when we are vague in our sense of purpose, in our sense of the direction or goal.

If our first human ancestors, Adam and Eve, had known the purpose of God's creating them and what their goal was, and if they had had the sense of responsibility to carry out their mission according to that, they could not have fallen. We are the descendants of fallen ancestors, and we have the hope of restoring ourselves to the original position. But to do that, we must be enlightened by an understanding of what God's purpose was in creating man, and what our part or mission is in realizing that, or making it an actuality. We are here for the restoration of that which, in the beginning, our first human ancestors failed to carry out and our forefathers, including all the saints and prophets, left unaccomplished; it is for us to accomplish those things. We have to make right what was turned upside down; return those things turned upside down to their original position like this. But we feel this is no easy job at all. Unless we excel Adam and Eve in carrying out our responsibility and attaining the goal -- carrying out or realizing the purpose of God's creating man -- we cannot accomplish our mission.

In the providential history of mankind, Adam fell on the individual level; Noah fell on the family level; Abraham on the tribal level (clan level); Moses, on the national level; and Jesus, both on the national and worldwide levels. All those things are not a history of victory at all. But when we think of centering on the man Noah -- he kept his faith, trying to carry out his mission for 120 long years -- but we have to excel his faith. Abraham was the father of faith, Moses was a man of faith, Jesus was the son of man, trying to carry out his mission at the cost of his life. But they are, in a way, failures. So, in order for us to accomplish our mission, our whole-sided mission, we must excel them in many ways. It makes it difficult for us to carry out our mission; but when we pour out our whole energy, our whole being, into this providence project, we can get the cooperation of the spirit world, making it possible. We must turn all things upside down like this, making it a reality, and making it a success. Jesus had a strong sense of purpose in his mission, but ours must be even stronger than that.

When you closely examine what you are and what you are doing, are you on that standard, and do you have a stronger will power to carry out your mission, with the strongest sense of purpose and responsibility? We must be able to elevate the standard of our mission, of what we have carried on, ever higher and higher. Some of you are State Representatives, some are Mobile Unit Commanders, and others are I.W.'s. You are not doing things on the individual level, you are representing so many people under you.

God is here, watching your work, and He expects something great out of you. But His heart is agonized to see the possibility that you might fail your mission. In watching over what you are doing, He always compares you with Adam, with Noah, with Abraham, with Moses, with Jesus and He is anxious to have you carry out your mission in a greater way than they did. If He finds you unqualified for that, He will be agonized to see you, grieved, sad. First of all, we must have a clear, strong sense of the purpose stronger than Abraham had; stronger than Moses, Noah or Adam had. Ours must be greater and stronger and clearer than theirs. What can make it greater? We can say that our faith determines it; but faith can fade away along the course. God cannot trust you unless you have gone through those things for several years, until you have gone through your mission for several years at least. He wants you, as the leaders of groups, to be able to animate the power in the people under you. He wants you to be really dynamic, to arouse people's attention, to emit the light of love and life, and Heaven wants to be stimulated by you. Sometimes He feels: "I must wait and see if they can carry out their missions," and He is more or less disappointed.

In the olden days, as in the time of Moses, God could actually work a miracle in leading the people under Moses -- but why is it not so with us? Unless God can find one stronger or more dedicated than Moses, God cannot do that. This being the close of the age, the Latter Days, God is anxious to help us more than ever; so, if He finds you greater than Jesus, greater than Moses, greater than all those passed away saints, He will surely be working with you. Thus, Satan, who caused Adam to fall, is still here and would accuse you, saying to God, "Well, let me see how faithful, how dedicated your children are. They are here, claiming that they are going to restore the whole world back to Your bosom. How strong are they? ... I will wait and see." And, every minute, he is ready to accuse you. In that case, would God be confident enough to let him accuse with all his might, with all his colleagues mobilized, accuse you of anything with your having no condition for which to be accused? Is God confident about you? Are any of you here confident enough to make God strong before Satan able to say that? If there is anyone here who can readily say, "I am such a person," raise up your hands.

I could assign you to do something of one third the importance of what Noah, Moses or Abraham went through and you would shrink back and feel so burdened, and feel that it is almost impossible, and that you want to escape. How can God trust you in that case? As time goes by, up to the present moment, God wanted to trust Noah; He wanted to trust Abraham more than He did Noah; to trust Jesus more than He did Abraham; and He would like to trust us more than He did all of those people. Yes ... trust us. We must be so trustworthy to Him; and can we keep asking God, "'Give us strength, give us faith"? Can we ask that? We are the fruit of all those people, so we must excel them in many ways, as I said. Then, in what sense are we greater than they are? We can be different from them and greater than they are, when we pray to console God's heart -- instead of praying for help like those passed-away saints did.

In praying to God, we want to console Him, we want to even encourage Him from our part, we want to stimulate Him and make Him happy. I want to ask you if you have been doing that. If you have been in despair, shrinking back to a confined place in your heart, grumbling and complaining, you are a failure there; instead of doing that, you must be able to encourage God, console God's heart, stimulate Him. You must be able to do that. You must be confident enough to be able to carry out your mission without God's help. You must have a clear sense of purpose and strong sense of responsibility to be able to carry out your mission in place of the passed away saints who failed to do so. In taking the responsibility, don't try to leave your responsibility on someone else's shoulders; try to win it out, try to carry out your own mission, and day and night be thinking of that. Every minute, you must be able to try hard to carry out your own mission without leaving it to someone else.

We can safely conclude that if you are like that, God is ready to help you any moment -- even if you don't want His help. So God is on your side, working more than ever with you. If you have that strength, that faith, that dedication -- then without your asking, God will be there to work with you, to work through you, and you will have the strength and confidence that you can make your mission a success. Each State Representative here, population wise, represents some four million people. With that in mind, have you felt a deep sense of responsibility from them? Have you ever felt that you are responsible for those people and that your every action, every thought, every word will determine whether or not they will be saved? That is the great problem/question. If, with that attitude, you have been struggling hard, day and night, waking or sleeping for this mission, the whole spirit world cannot but be mobilized in your aid. What makes it that way? In that case, you are in the position of Adam or Eve before the fall. You are in accordance with God's will; so those who are in the position of the Archangel must help you and minister to you. In other words, you are in the position of Adam and Eve, sons and daughters of God, having nothing to do with sin, conforming entirely with God's will.

Then, since those passed away people on the spirit side are in the position of the Archangel, they are compelled to minister to you and help you -- or else they are not carrying out their mission and will be punished. Among the vast numbers of spirit-men, those who are on the side of good are compelled to help our movement; and they are, even in the spirit world, fighting against the Satanic power. So they will be helping us and our group cannot but have success and victory.

So, whenever you feel that you have not quite ... that you have failed in bringing in people, don't blame God, don't blame the nature of the people, don't blame the nature of the city blame yourself. In that case, have you ever repented and bowed down before God, begging His forgiveness, begging like a sinner before Him -- have you ever felt that way? In that case, you must be ashamed to even look at the nature around you, to see the people around you. You must be ashamed of yourself, ashamed of your being able to eat, ashamed of your being able to wash your face. Every minute of your life, you must be feeling that. If you focus your attention on one point, and if you pour out your whole being into your nation, you can even sense what is to come and in what way you can approach people and witness to them, how you can convince and persuade people. You must re-examine yourself, analyze yourself, criticize yourself and recruit yourself re-educate yourself.

You must be more than a poet in communicating with the things of nature. When you visit a place of scenic beauty, you can talk to them, saying, "I am sorry you are still in travail, waiting for the perfected sons and daughters of God to have dominion over you. I am going to do that for you. I am going to be a real son, to be able to soothe you and love you and know your value. Well, I am spiritually low now, ragged like this; but when I come to see you the second time, I will be elevated like this, and you will rejoice to see me, and I will communicate with you from the highest level." You must be able to talk back and forth with nature. Sometimes, when you see the sunrise, the glory of the sunrise, you can cry out to the sun, saying, "I will make you glorious, because I am the son of God! And once I carry out my mission I will be able to really appreciate you and make you really glorious, to shine over all human beings, like I do, in the spiritual sense. I will make you glorious because of me." Could you say that to the sun, to nature?

During the night, in deep nocturnal meditation, did you ever try to resolve, to be determined in your mind, to succeed in carrying out your mission and accomplishing what was left unaccomplished by the passed-away saints and becoming the dominator of light, eliminating or erasing the darkness? Well, were you confident enough to claim that, and cry it out to the darkness? When you look at the chains of mountains, can you cry out, "I am the son of man; I am the first one to be able to really appreciate you. You are there always meditating over things of beauty, but I am here to create beauty and to restore all human beings with beauty, love and everything." When you hear the chirping birds, when you see the reflecting ribbons of river, have you been able to face God, have you been able to sing the glory of God, saying, "This is my garden, from my Father, who created it for me; and I will beautify this place and I will beautify myself. And by perfecting myself, I will glorify God and bring all the children of God back to His bosom." Have you ever felt that? If you don't have that kind of experience, you are not qualified to be State Representatives, or I.W.'s, or Commanders on the mobile teams. If you have been grumbling, saying, "'Well, I am forced to do this, I want to escape from this. I am reluctant to do this," and you can barely drag yourself on then you are already a failure.

Once you are assigned this great mission, why don't you be qualified for your mission? ... and after carrying out your mission and glorifying your ancestors, glorifying the passed-away saints and glorifying God, seek another place where you can help out people with other missions? If you are like this, would God not love you and look for you, to console your heart? In that case, God would confide His heart to you and everything of value, which has been stored away, will be taken out by God and given to you. Unless you are a person God needs, you prayers will not be answered. Those who really feel that they are needed by God, will you hold up your hands? Is it true -- are you really so? Are you imagining it, or are you really so? Is God really in need, is our Master absolutely in need of you? Are you the people needed by the Unification Church, are you the people needed by the people of this world?...does the state need you? [YES!] I can see that you are not too confident, because your "'yes" is not strong enough. You must reawaken yourself to the fact, and you must recruit your strength.

You must be confident enough to feel that you can crush the people with both hands like this, and you can be responsible for those four million people under you, in your state. You must feel that, once you kick at them, they will be crushed under your foot; kick at the mountain, and the mountain will be crushed into pieces. You must be able to say, "Once everybody, anybody, appears before me, you cannot leave me without being defeated or being absorbed by me."

I said that my subject was going to be "Victory or Defeat." Then who will be the victors, and who will be the defeated? Who are going to be the victors? [WE ARE!] And who is going to be the defeated? [SATAN!] Yes, Satan. And the whole population of each state represents the Satan's side. Isn't that true? [YES!] Well, your answer, as I see, is in the affirmative but after one year work in some of the states, there is only a handful of people, and in some places, I find that only the State Representative remains. You have taken three meals a day, for one year -- that is 1,080 meals you have taken -- but some of you have done practically nothing. What can I say to you? The very food can accuse you. So, this must be a grave question. You must be more serious than God; you must be more anxious to carry out your mission than God is to have you do it. You must hate yourself for that more than God would. Have you gone through that feeling? You take things for granted and no change can come about ' and no difference is there from yesterday, today and the days to come. If you have not been able to bring in members, you must at least be able to leave something that no one else could do. If you are a failure in that state, when we next send someone as State Representative to the people there, they will be scornful of the newcomer, the new State Representative, and say, "I am afraid he is going to be a duplication of his predecessor." Well, before leaving your post, you must be able to at least leave something that could never be done by other people. You can do that at ,least. If you fail to move the hearts of the people, try to move the rocks, move nature, praying the whole night on a mountainside, talking with God. Always, the question comes to your own self: you must have a strong sense of being a warrior and soldier, fighting for the sake of the state for which you are responsible. Then, after the battle, after each war, you must be able to cry out, "My battle today was a victory!" While the people of the state are in utter darkness, in despair, in the dungeon of hell -- you must be able to let the people think there is light, and once the light shines out it will be warmed up, and they will be animated. Have you left that kind of thing to the state? Yes or no!

You must be able to find yourself always improving, better every day, every moment. And you must have been changed a lot for the better. Are you like that? Do you have that ambition? In my prayer, I can sense that for the first few weeks the mobile team members were so anxious and even fearful before God as to whether or not they would be able to carry out their missions and they were so anxious to carry out what was assigned to them -- but after a few weeks they have become somehow settled, not in the good sense, but in such a way that they have become lax and do things in a habitual way. That is not the way you should be. That being the battlefield, every moment is so precious, so important and you must be well armed, first of all, with a sense of responsibility. Every minute, a new sense, a stronger sense of responsibility. You must be stronger in your ambition, sense of responsibility and sense of purpose, because there is Satan -- who can come and attack you at any moment. Anything alive has to grow; cessation is the eve of retreat. You must go on, advance forward -- you must be able to find yourself ever increasing, ever progressing. You must be able to say to yourself, "I was a failure last year, but it was not in vain -- it taught me a lesson, and this year I must plan to do this and that." And after this year, if you find it is still a failure, you have learned another lesson from this, and you can grow in that way, and you can finally make your mission or project a success. You have learned the principle that where there is a perfect subject there is sure to appear a perfect object. If you are really aggressive and ambitious in carrying out your purpose -- which is God's then the ground for you to work on will be provided. And it's natural for the object to come about for you as the subject. And, since you are a better self than what you were yesterday, then you are entitled to more things. Since you have improved, and you are better than what you were last month, you can hope for something greater. Then, have you been lending attentive ears, attentive eyes, looking for something greater, some greater project for which you can be responsible? You must be so attentive and so anxious to carry out your mission that when you see, for instance, a yellow car coming from a distance, you will imagine, "There must be someone whom I can witness to, and bring into the movement. God must be sending at least one in that car; will it be a woman, will it be a man, will it be a girl or a boy?" In anxiety, you are waiting for someone to come -- and a miracle will happen, and the car will happen to stop before you, and a prepared person will come out and you can speak to him. And he is the very person for our movement. Have you ever done that? Suppose, on the contrary, the car passes by, and your heart is saddened; and without your being conscious of it, tears run down your cheeks, and in deep prayer you console God's heart and say, "Oh, Father, I know that You have gone through when You have failed to restore Your children," and to that prayer God will surely respond or answer. You would say, "Oh, Father, I feel so discouraged, I feel so dark, so low -- but have You not gone through all these things all throughout human history, for 6,000 years? Well, I can recruit my strength." And before the table, eating your supper, you can be in utter devotedness; and you can eat your supper, and God will be with you, strengthening you, and you will feel God's love there.

If you are intoxicated in doing things, if you are almost crazy over the joy of bringing in members, the spirit world will work for you, people will see visions, will see you in their dreams and wait for you to come. If you have the attitude that you are waiting for a lost child to come back to you, and you set out in search of lost children, and you set aside a portion of your candy or any delicate edibles -- with a waiting heart you set something like that aside for your spiritual children to come and relish -- if you are in such a mood, with such an attitude, with a parent's heart, waiting for lost children to come back to you, God will be with you and you will be able to find at least one. From my experience, I can readily tell you that if you are in that mood, you cannot fail to find your children, spiritual ones. All through the night you would stay up the whole night in meditation before God and the tick-tock of the clock would have a strange influence on your ears. You can fancy or imagine that every second there are new lives coming into the world. You can say that at every second there are so many people dying away, and you can cry out to the clock, "Don't you ever feel, don't you ever sense that there are many lives dying away?" And you can even listen to your own heartbeat, and every moment you are so anxious to bring to life the "dead" people -- and you will be really serious. Every morning, when you wake up, try to count your pulse: one, two, three, four, until you count your age. In proportion to your graveness, seriousness, your pulse will say something to you.

Well, every moment, the more numbers you count, the more you are nearing the end of your life -- have you ever imagined that? But if you have joy, happiness and courage, the beating or pulsation will encourage you more and more. In every pulsation, you can feel God, and you can feel that your life is here -- and with that animation, you can work the whole day and turn the whole world upside down. If you are conscious of your eyes blinking, twinkling every moment, then you will feel God or life there. When you walk, pace by pace, you want to pound against the earth; you can feel courage and you can feel you can crush the earth and all people under your feet. If you are powerless, your pace will be that of the defeated -- so you don't want to be that. You must be able to encourage yourself every moment. A moment, a second may decide whether you are the victor or the defeated. You must not forget that. We can never know which moment will determine whether we are going to be the victor or the defeated. Sometime, a burglar may come to you, pointing a pistol at you -- but after a moment, you are going to be the victor. Sometimes something great is happening -- but the next moment you are going to be defeated. You are very happy, with broad daylight smiles, really laughing but who knows but that you are going to be defeated in the next moment? You are very hungry like this, and you can think of nothing else but eating; and then, at that very moment, who knows, you may determine whether you are going to be the victor or the defeated. How anxious have you been to achieve victory? How long have you been waiting for victory? How long have you been struggling to attain or gain the victory? Have you been doing things at the risk of your own life, risks on the verge of life or death for that victory? Have you ever tried to gather your strength and get cooperation of your parents, your brothers and sisters, your relatives and friends, to make your mission a success, a victory? Have you been able to get the people around you to come to your rescue, or to aid you in that mission? Have you been able to love the people around you, and miss them as you would miss a bowl of food when you are hungry? Have you been forgetting to sleep and eat, in your search for people? Have you been losing weight in your anxiety to find spiritual children? Have you ever experienced loving your spiritual children in such a way that you would hate to see them leave you, so that you would stop them and give them everything you have, and tell them interesting stories to stop them from leaving -- and would do just anything for them, to draw them to yourself? Have you ever slept with your clothing on, in meditation, thinking of the people you miss, your spiritual children? In that case, when you wake up in the morning, you don't feel rested, but you are so anxious to find out about your lost children -- so that you even forget your fatigue. You would fall asleep just as you are, clad, and then find yourself in a vision, all illuminated, all turned into white, glorious, as though you are in the palace of God. You can have that kind of experience. Then you would weep and sob in gratitude before God and all through the night; even though you sit up the whole night, you will never feel fatigued, never feel tired, and you would be only grateful toward God.

If you have that attitude, in that mood, the whole spirit world will be mobilized, and will go in advance to reach people and get their minds prepared for you. You must have that kind of experience; you must be rich in those things. You must have that kind of experience, so that in missing your spiritual children you would weep (that is a typical expression) ... you must have three types of fluid coming out: tears, mucus and spittle. When you are utterly sad, when you are intoxicated with love, something like that, then you will experience those three kinds of fluid coming out. Have you ever loved someone, missed someone, with that experience? When you are in that mood, it is more than something you experience when you are in love with some girl or boy. He has the experience of loving one of his spiritual children so much that, upon his leaving, he would hate to let him go alone, so he would escort him, walk him half way to his home -- and then he would come back. That person would miss him again and he would walk him back, and all through the night they would walk back and forth on the way. Well, there is nothing to laugh at -- it is really a serious moment. In that case, you are intoxicated with love. You must have that kind of experience. You should not be just like so many other cases, in America -- once you say goodbye to someone you forget about them -- that's not the way it should be among our group.

In searching for people, you must be able to do so in tearfulness, missing them with an attitude such as I have spoken about. Then you must go beyond the level of the individual thing. After you have found one person, you must be able to find a family, a whole neighborhood, a clan, a nation, and the whole world; in that way, we advance forward. These are going to be the foothold for God to work on, the foundation on which God can perform His part. So you must not feel that you are all alone; God is always with you. If you are a perfect object to God, He will be working with you. God is ready to give us the most precious things; we must resemble God, and be ready to give out all we have, our most precious things, to others. Then your foothold will be widened, your environment will be smoothed out, and you can pave the way -- not only for yourself -- but for other people to follow you.

Last year, I was able to meet many senators and congressmen; and this year, I have met more of such people. After my conversation with them, I could determine or figure out what is going to happen in this nation. More than anything else, I tried to find out how many people they have around them, and how broad a foothold or foundation they have built. I wanted to know how anxious they were to meet people; and when I found one who was really nonchalant and indifferent about people, in meeting me or other people, I could determine his fate. It means they must be attentive in searching for anyone, to provide greater things for him; he doesn't know if one who is seemingly nobody will come to visit him, and through this person he will be destined to success or victory. There are quite a few people who left a good impression, a wonderful impression, on me. Among them, I counted first level: first one, second, third. And the next time I meet them, the second time, I can compare what they are at that time to what they are now. Well, if I find a certain one never changing in that attitude, or who wants to receive people even more, I can work with him -- I can make him world famous, with God's help. They can never dream of my thinking of them like that. Sometimes I deliberately do impolite things in front of them. Let those who have ears to hear, hear; let those who have eyes to see, see. You never know who will be for you and who will make your fate different; there may be a sick man, an old man, coming leaning on a stick, and he may be the very person to help you -- you can never tell.

Whenever you meet a person, you must now think that he may be a savior, he may be a great help to you and a judge over what you are; if you have that attitude, you can never fail. Don't be a slave to your mood; when you are cross or mad at someone, if you say a harsh thing to him, that might determine your defeat. If you are cross at someone, unkind to someone, that may determine your fate, an ill fate. I want you to be always humble, kind, loving and understanding of others, even though the person visiting you may be a cross or evil person -- even unforgivably evil. God can then turn him and use him to help you, to make you a success. When you go out to witness to people, an old person may come along, like this...you may hate the idea of having to speak to that person, and will simply pass by. That is not the attitude you should have. Who knows ... his son may become the president of a nation, his grandson or great-grandson may be the most famous leader. You must be such a person that that old man will speak to his children about you: "Well, all through my life, being a crippled person, I have been ill-treated, and faced with so much agony and sadness in my heart; but once in my lifetime, I met a gloriously wonderful youth, and this person is so-and-so, and you must remember him for my sake, and do your best to do everything possible for him." He may leave a will before his death -- who knows. From that you may be able to become associated with his grandson, and you can -- who knows -- you might even marry him in the holy blessing. Well, that kind of thing could happen. The children of those old folks may be your future husband or future wife -- nobody can tell. So, you can never mistreat anyone, however shabby or ragged-looking that person may be; and you must think that whomever you meet, whomever you run across, has something to do with your fate. You must not mistreat them; more than anything else, you must not be nonchalant, you must not treat them as if they had nothing to do with you.

Let's consider the case of Joseph, Mary's husband. He was a righteous man, you know that -- but could he believe what he was told in his dream by an angel. His fiancée was pregnant, and he was agonized in heart. If he were an ordinary person, he would have forgotten what he received in the dream, would have been nonchalant about it, and would have denied its being the truth. But he believed in that, and did as he was told in the dream -- to take Mary as his wife. You have dreams, and some dreams will come true may be one out of a hundred, one out of ten might come true -- how could you believe in what you had in your dream? But Joseph was a man of faith, and he believed that God would instruct him, teach him what to do, how to do things; he believed in his dreams, and he was serious enough to do things as he was told. John the Baptist was a great person, prepared to receive Jesus. There had been so many prophets and saints who had received revelation from God, but John the Baptist saw, not in a dream, but with his very eyes, a dove descending from heaven and alighting on Jesus. And a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is my glorious son with whom I am well pleased." And he believed in that. I can see some dozing off like this ... but who knows...at this moment your fate might be decided.

Out of the thousands of words from Master, this one word might be planted in your heart like a seed, to flourish and to make you a victor ... who knows? Well, if you are sleepy, go ahead and fall asleep. I know you are tired, I understand that; but I am all the more so. Because I have gone through so much fatigue and so much sleepiness, I can understand you. It is because we are tired that we need this moment.

The time element is so important that, if you can grasp a moment, you can be a victor; on the other hand ' if you let it go, you will be defeated. I warn you not to be overjoyed when happiness comes to you; and don't try to escape when misery and heartbreak come. All of it is for you. Please be aware of the fact that you are responsible for everything that comes to you; and if you can meet with it and win over it or conquer it, you are going to be the victor. You will at least learn a lesson from the experience. You are responsible for the occasion; and if you are victorious over the difficulty, you must be able to pass it on to others, and you must be able to link it to your goal. If you are deeply sympathetic with a person in need of that, then it can turn his fate upside down like this, and you will have won the truest friend.

I will tell you one of my experiences In prison. Someone beside me knew -- I don't know how but somehow knew my birthday. I am greatly indebted to him, as to many others. You can never imagine how miserable life is in Korean prisons, under the Communist or Japanese regimes. For example, people are so hungry there ... and some die eating, with their mouths full of rice, and do you know what happens?...he has still a mouthful of rice, and the prisoners around him hurry to get that rice out of his mouth, and would relish that rice. You can never imagine. And some would have visitors give them a handful of rice powder -- they would never take anything in the whole world for this, they would never let it go for the whole world. But if Master received some of that rice powder from his visitors, he would give it out handfuls or spoonfuls to everyone there. And out of all those people, one, after eating a portion of it, would save a tiny bit, put a tiny amount aside. And when that had accumulated to this much, he remembered Master's birthday; and on that day, he did something with the powder. He made a dough out of it, molded it like a cake or pudding, and celebrated Master's birthday right there in the dungeon. Master can never forget this person; he wants to meet him in his lifetime. Master is going to repay him. When I remember him doing such a thing for me, I repent, I feel regret, and say to myself, "Why did I not give him more? He was doing this for me, even though he did not have enough out of that small portion I gave him. Why did I not give him more?" I always recollect that scene.

When I think back on that experience, I always imagine that God must be feeling the same. If I receive so much blessing from God, in such abundance, I must put aside some portion to be returned to Him and He will be all the more anxious to give to me and to bless me with more abundance. If you are ready to return some portion, at least, out of what you have received, to God; and if you can do that in a miserable condition, not in a blessed involvement, but in a miserable condition; if you can return joy and gratitude to God; then you are going to be blessed all the more, and God will miss you, will never forget you, will be ready to help you at any moment and you are going to be a success. My topic this evening is "Victory or Defeat in Accordance with the Time Element." When is the time? The time and the hour are here. Now is the time, now is the hour. What you hear at this moment, what you see at this moment, what you think or say or do at this moment will determine whether you are going to be victorious or defeated. So be awakened to this fact, and be aware of the fact that what you are doing at this moment will determine your fate. Our victory, unlike others, will be connected with God; and our defeat will belong to hell. So I warn you to be clearly oriented, in this thing, to be a victor in the end, and return glory to God. You are here, and you all look alike. But in God's sight, there are people who are going to be victors, other who are going to be defeated and there are some to whom God will say, "It would have been better if you had not come at all." You must remember the purpose, the responsibility and the time element which can determine your victory or defeat. Shall we pray.

It is important for you to know about heart in order to love each other. Therefore, I am going to talk to you about heart. Heart is a very difficult word to translate from Korean into English. It is of deeper meaning than heart -- a loving heart, a sensitive heart, a caring heart.

Heart is the source of love. There was an ideal in God, as we have an ideal in our heart. God's ideal can be realized through man. Then, what is the instrument within man of God's expressing His heart? In order for man to realize God's heart, we are male and female. Unless male and female beings come together and are united, there is no way for God to express His love. Unity is the measure of your love ... Joy in marriage. If you have your spouse, or an opposite entirely one with you, working with you toward one goal -- joy comes about. When you are happy, there is always you, as the subject, and someone else, as the object. In direct proportion to the degree of love in being one with each other, your joy increases. The core of love in the truest sense is something which attracts each other, and once you are united you can never part from each other. You hate to leave that person and hate to lose that person. So, love means to be united in oneness, internally and externally. Unless you find oneness, you cannot find joy. When you are one with a person, you don't want to be separated from each other, and you want to be with each other for eternity, and you don't get tired of each other. Which is first, unity or love?

You can love yourself when your mind and body are in harmony with each other. If you love yourself when your mind and body are separated from each other, then your love is of no use. When your mind and body are united into one, then your love will be eternal, and will be protected by God. Unity is the beginning point of love, and then love can come there. This is God's ideal. But unless God can find one whose stand is in accordance with His ideal, He cannot be happy at all.

He cannot love that person. Do you understand? [YES!] The Principle being the core of the thing, we, in our movement, claim unity first, before anything else. And then we talk about our heart and love. Then only can our ideal be realized. Before the ideal can be realized, there must be unity, and then love.

In the beginning, when God created man, He had an ideal. Logos was expressed in a male being and a female being and in their unity, God's love can be enjoyed by them. To repeat, God's ideal is there, then unity must come about, then love will be there. When you use your eyes, those two eyes are focused on one thing, and then your vision plays the proper role. Likewise, when any subject and object are united in love, love is expressed there. It is true that, when your nostrils are balanced and unified in their effort to smell things, unity is expressed, and when you smell things, the love of God appears. When you use your mouth too, if it is crooked, it cannot function properly. And when you have two ears, if one is wrong or gets sick, then you cannot expect proper functioning out of them. Unity and harmony must come about, and then joy or love can come.

If you quarrel with a brother or sister, then God, as the Parent, cannot love either of you. If you have your own children, you will know. If you have a group under you and they fight with each other, would you love them? Where there is harmony, there is beauty, and where there is beauty, love can come. In Matthew, Chapter 5, in the Sermon on the Mount, it says, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." Being sons of God means being loved by God. When any two fingers want to grasp something, they must come and meet at the tip, like this. When any two people love each other, they want to embrace like this, not turn their backs on each other.

If two hands would be united like this, the very deepest places are touched and invaded, in a way. Being united is the expression of love, so when you love each other, you wouldn't let go of each other. If there is no love there, you may do this anyway, but you can be separated. But if there is love there, the magnetic power of love will pull you together, like this, and you cannot be separated.

To be united means to be perfected in function. Between nations, too , if any of the two nations are united, God's love will be there, and they will be blessed with good luck and fortune. There is an Oriental saying that where there is harmony in the family, everything can be done. Where there is unity and harmony, there is the love of God, so the ideal will be realized there. In the ideal family, the husband and wife must be one, like this. Among the children, "'a" and "b" must become one, "c" and "d" must become one, and so on, and all together they are in harmony, like a symphony orchestra or a beautiful painting. With love there, no other power can put them asunder. So, we can come to the conclusion that if and when you want to receive God's love, you must be united. If that is done, you are already living in the Kingdom of God on earth. From there, the straight path to God is reached. Anybody, if asked if he wants to receive God's love will answer in the affirmative. If you really want God's love, what should you be doing? What two things must be united into one in you as an individual? Your body and mind. That's the basic thing. First of all, you must unite your mind and body, then God's love will be there with you. Then, with that done, you can proceed on to be united with other people, and then the degree of God's love with you will be deeper and broader. Have you ever had the experience that your mind and body were entirely one? Have you thought it possible? In the real sense? You are trying. You try hard, but your mind and body are sometimes far apart, then get a little closer, and then are separated again and zigzag like this all the time. There is a Korean saying that our mind fluctuates and vacillates from morning to night. Also, mountains never change, but the human mind is always changing. So, before wanting to be loved, you must try to have unity within yourself. But in this world, everybody wants to be loved by others, without trying to become one with them, understanding their hearts. In that way, one can never meet, never receive, perfect love.

Then, first of all, what must we be doing? That's right, unite our mind and body. When you have made your mind and body united then you have nothing to do with Satan. But we have learned something here. When you make your mind and body into one, centered on whom do you do that? God. When you mind and body are united into one, it resembles God in perfection, so God will play the role of subject to you, as a perfect object. Try to feel it. You must be able to feel God's love actually being with you when your mind and body are in harmony. When your mind and body are quarreling with each other and are separated, you feel that God's love is leaving you. You are in a triangular relationship with God. If your mind is apart or separated like this, in triangular form, God will be farther up here. If your mind and body are still farther from each other, God will be high up here.

If you can love one person, God's love will be there in proportion to the depth and size of that love. If you can love many people like this, God's love will come in proportion to the greatness of the love, to the depth of the love. Those who are in Abel's position must be able to subjugate Cain, not in such a way as to conquer him, but to love him, and warm him up in more harmony, in unity. Abel wants more unity. Unity is the first thing. And if you love anyone at all, you want to love him, risking your life, at the cost of your life. Then you can even overcome Hell. No Hell will be there. If you are disunited, if there is disharmony, Hell is always there in your mind. Then, in the fallen world, when religious people offered sacrifices to God, they cut the offering in two. That means that one-half belongs to God and the other belongs to Satan. By the action of cutting that in two, they are sacrificed already. So those two are an acceptable sacrifice. And then if God can receive those halves as acceptable, there is unity, and God's love is there. When you love someone, you always find that person is sacrificial to you. When you love a person, there is already unity between you and that person. We want to be united with someone, and then God's love comes there, so our purpose in uniting with others is to receive God's love. Then God's ideal will be realized. Do you understand? [YES!]

The same theory can be applied on the family level. If there is unity between nations and the people of the world, then God's love will surely be coming to reflect from that. Again, I must say there must be unity, then God's love will come about, and then God's ideal will be realized. Not only among people, but the relationship between man and nature is the same thing. To love nature is to become one with it. You must feel a closeness to nature. He said that if your mind and body are united into one, then God's love is reflected there, and if you are the reflections of God's love, then nature is attracted to you. That's the starting point of everything.

Suppose you want to write in a notebook. At that moment, yourself and the notebook are close, close and one. In case you love that notebook, and pour out your whole energy and soul into it, then work and writing can come out of it. You must have a strong view of this. Before you do anything, you must contemplate that thing and be sure that you are one with it, or with that purpose. Then you start doing things in harmony and oneness, and the love of the work you are doing will be realized as the idea is actualized. In looking at things, too, you don't want to just vaguely look at things and see it in your vision or sight. If you focus your attention, using glances from the eyes, you can sort of pierce through the thing, and that thing will be yours -- you are in it and it is in you, in complete oneness. If your glance is focused on one point, then, from that point it will go like this -- and the scope is broader. When the two meet at one point, then it will go on forever. Then we can see the cubic world instead of the horizontal world. It's very logical. If your two hands meet like this and press each other hard, like this, there would be something squeezing out, like creativity coming out. And if you go and meet another person and are united with each other, from then on creativity comes about. In that case, even though you are alone, you are not by yourself. Always move from a triangular base -- God is there, with your mind and body. Those three are one. Your mind knows that, feels that, and senses that you are not alone, that you are not lonely. Your body feels that. Your mind knows that, and your body knows that. It is natural for God to know that, too. In that case, can you be dishonest, can you tell a lie, when you realize God is always there?

This is the whole nature of our conscience, looking at you, watching you. When your mind is telling a lie, when your mind is cheating your body, or when your body is cheating your mind, then it means that you are cheating God, cheating the whole Creation, and cheating your parents and brothers. Your mind and body being the core of the thing, if those two are united into a strong oneness, you can become one with God, one with your parents, one with your brothers and your whole family, one with your tribe, one with your nation, and one with the whole world. If you are honest, you want to become one with each other, and to unite your mind and body. If you are dishonest, it means you separate yourself, and you are destined to ruin. This formula must be deeply rooted in your mind. Sleeping or awake, whether you eat or study or not, you must always be remembering this thing -- and then you are already receiving God's love. You realize that there are six elements in human life. You will be either happy or unhappy, either going somewhere or coming from there. You must be eating or resting. In order to be able to overcome unhappiness, you must be able to unite. That's God's strategy to win the human heart. In order for you to win someone's heart, you must apply the same thing. When your mind and body are in perfect oneness, you can even hear your mind singing, and you feel light, as if you are flying and dancing about. In that case, you look at the whole world, and it is so much more beautiful with your mind like that. It's as if you have eyeglasses of unity, and you are looking at things through God's eyes, through good vision; and through those eyeglasses, everything in the whole world is beautiful, and no ugliness is there.

If our Master is the real Son of God, that which is given by Master is of such a value that you wouldn't give it away for anything. Suppose the Son of God gave you a handkerchief. That handkerchief is worth more than gold, more than life, more than anything else in the Satanic world. If you are a real son of God, whatever humble place you may lay yourself down in is a throne or a palace. Is that true? [YES!] Then our clothing is no problem, and the place where we lay ourselves down is no problem, because we are already rich, we are the princes of God. What kind of attitude must be created in ourselves? We will not feel hunger or thirst, difficulty, persecution, or anything which the worldly people think is hard. In our way there is happiness, joy, and love. If you have God's love reflected in you, you want to reach out to every corner of the world, because God's mind is like that. If you have that attitude, the people around you will be attracted to you like iron filings to a magnet.

If you are in the front-line witnessing to people, in case you fall to bring people, It's not because God is not there, it's not because the people are bad, but it's because of yourself, being without love. In that case you are not a subject, capable of uniting the object. If you are united with someone, there is already love, like air coming into a vacuum. If your mind and body are really one, you feel God's love there like an electric current. Then you forget about fatigue, forget about misery and hardship. You can experiment with that, and it will prove true. When you want to give a lecture to the congregation, you want to have God speak through you, so you must have your mind and body united, or else God cannot be with you. And before speaking to the people, you must repent if your mind and body are separate. Pray before God in repentance, shedding tears, and in deep prayer you must beg God's forgiveness, and then you can start talking. In that case you can be the spokesman of God. God may speak through you. The first step is for your mind to become one with God, and then your mind will become one with your body. In that case, God can work through you. Go on and try it, and it will prove true to you.

So, you must have unity first, because without unity there is no love -- unity first, love, and then God's ideal. You must think with God, say things with God, and outline things with God. The base of those three elements -- unity, love, and ideal -- is heart. Heart is the deeper expression of the mind. Starting from heart, unity, love and ideal are all realized. We are told that everything starts from God. The core of one's self being heart, everything starts from there. Since our heart is the core, then God is the object. But in relationship to God's love, our heart is in the object position. When heart and God are put together, they love each other. We must know that the basic thing is our heart, our infinite heart. Creation came about from God's heart, a heart of love. With those three realized -- unity, love and ideal -- there is no distinction between the three -- unity is love, love is unity, ideal is unity, ideal is love. Then why are those three ultimately one? Unity can come about on the horizontal level first. Two elements are one like this, and then God's love can come there, so we have a vertical relationship. Then love will be the director of those three. And the three form a circle or ball, and they spin around. Then the ideal can come about.

To repeat this, there must be unity on the horizontal level between the two, and God can become one there. You can have both a horizontal relationship, and a vertical relationship, and those three are put together with perfect love. And with the other three in perfect love, it takes a form like a ball spinning around, and they will be in ideal harmony throughout all eternity. When you dance about, all around, you don't make a distinction between your place and your partner's position. There is no distinction between you -- you can stand in his position, and he can stand in your position. There is no distinction between the positions. There is no bond that can be omitted from that. There is unity, love, and ideal. Is everything clear to you? Knowing alone cannot do anything. If you really know that, put it into practice.

Suppose you are on this level. To evangelize means to elevate people to your standard, then help him or her to be united with God. Then that person is yours. You are the owner of that soul, and you can return it to God. Ownership in the real sense can come about through that. For God, too, unless you become one with Him, He cannot possess you. You say to God, this is mine. In that case, you must be loving that thing and your ideal must be realized through that. If those three are realized in you, you cannot be anything else other than a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven. Is that clear to you? You can never learn this kind of thing from the lectures on the Divine Principle. There is profundity in the Divine Principle, and when it is applied to everyday life your spiritual standard will be elevated more and more. You must always be thinking of unity, unity, unity. When you smell, smell unity. Eat unity, see unity, and hear unity. Everything must be unity first, and then love and harmony, and then the ideal.

Good morning! [Good morning!] I think you have heard that I arrived in Washington a few days ago; this is my second visit since then, so you must have wanted to meet me. You may have heard that I have been meeting some people over here and I found no time for you, except for this morning. All my life has been a busy one -- and it is becoming more and more so -- and well, you may think that for you to keep pace with me is something wonderful or something terrible. But we are busy for the great cause. So I want you to be really happy over that fact. Greatest job [Master in English] . I may have to stop by 8:00 o'clock.

"Our Advancement and Retreat" is my topic this morning. To you, those letters or characters may look strange [on the board] . I understand that Western people have been very much concerned with Oriental things -- but you have not yet become acquainted with the characters, I am afraid. Over here, I have been watching your way of life -- and I have found quite a few people using the left hand in eating, writing and in many other tasks. And I find it very strange. Your way is somehow the opposite of ours. While we call like this, you call people this way [movement of hand]. In bed, we sleep on our stomach, but you sleep on your back ... oh!, the other way around ... we sleep on our back, while you sleep on your stomach. Our way of writing is from top to bottom, from-right to left -- but yours is just the contrary. But are people that different, between the East and the West? You don't weep when you are happy and you don't smile when you are unhappy. You do it the opposite way, just as Oriental people do. You are happy when you gain something, but you are reluctant to lose anything. It is something like this: we have two hands; in a sense, our right hand is the opposite of our left hand. Those two hands, when used by the central organ or central being, are rightly used. When you are born, you are situated in different places, different positions -- but as you go along, you are nearing each other.

There are many things taking place in human society; but beyond our consciousness, there is God's will working behind the scenes. Most unconsciously, we are headed for a goal or purpose; but since we have the purpose apparent or evident -- accurate -- we are headed directly or straightforwardly for that goal. When your goal is forty miles ahead, you don't want to make a detour; but if there is any short cut which could help you attain the goal within 15 miles, you would take that way, wouldn't you? If you could find any way a pace shorter, or a mile shorter, you would take that way, wouldn't you? Even though there are some differences between the people of the East and the West, concerning those important things or mainstreams of thought, we resemble each other-or we are just the same. Our hands are the instruments which we use, and if our mind or brain knows that there is something big, great or precious, it wants to grasp it -- you want to hold it tight like this. But if you find a small, tiny, valueless thing, your hand may go out, but you will be reluctant to grasp it. Perhaps you have a thing of great value in your hand, and you hold it tight like this ... and you won't let it go ... but if you are given something of greater value, your hand will loose it like this, in order to grasp the greater one. Up to the present -- all throughout human history -- Western people have thought highly of one thing while the Eastern people have thought highly of something else. Each side has thought that theirs was the greater. But, as they are nearing, they want to be united into one or find some third thing of greater value or image. They have things in common, and they would let go of those things and be united into one in that final thing. [Mrs. Choi: "'Master thinks that I have gone ahead and said what he was going to say!"]

When you find those things are valueless, you let them go. You take a tight hold of that because you find nothing else which is of greater value. You want to look around in search of better things. On the way, those on the right side are somehow attracted to what is taking place on the left side, and want to go and join those there; while on the other hand, those on the left side fancy that there are things of more value on the right side, and will come and join that side. Both, revolving around with such speed -- in oneness -- would like to somehow find a third place to go.

You, as Americans, would not have noticed the changes that have been made here; but we strangers, or aliens from other countries, would notice that. There have been many changes, but the greatest of all is that the concern or interest of the Western people is focused on the Eastern world. On the level of spiritual things, even the Oriental people, who have hitherto envied what is Western, value what they have and feel there is nothing good to be found in the Western world. But we have something more advanced than the Oriental people, anyway; so we are attracted to each other, like this, and in doing that, we find something in between which we want to get hold of. Would we be united in one place -- inclined to the left like this or to the right like this, or in the middle -- we don't know yet. We define right or left centering on ourselves as the central personage. Likewise, what is taking place on the left side of the world or on the right side of the world -- in the West or in the Orient -- would have the central standard when they have God here ' and then with the central being having the goal like this. And when they join each other in the mainstream and head for that goal, then we can safely say that we are headed for the right destination. Viewed from the central standpoint, neither of those -- I mean those on the left and those on the right -- are good. So when we want to join and from there to start all over again toward the goals set forth before us, we are safely headed for the intended goal. That goal must be God's intention; and when we find that central being, people in both the left world and the right world will find that their standing is not quite right, and so they will be attracted to the central point. From then on, they want only to advance -- not to retreat. Those who have found that will not waiver or sway like this. But as it now stands, the Communist world proclaims that theirs is the greatest of all, and wants to attract the other party, while the democratic world believes that theirs is the only and final one, and would like to draw the other party to them. But those people cannot deny human dignity; we have the right to think our own way, so they cannot quite take us away and plant us in their position if we don't want that. And, centering on one personage, things on our left and our right are valuable only when I myself, as the central organ, think that they are good or valuable. In the Communist world, frankly, they are thinking -- without expressing it -- that there are some contradictions and wrong parts in their theory. In the democratic world, also, they are eager to eradicate and better their stand. Centering on ourselves, we are placed on the vertical line; when we want to broaden our stand, we want to reach out on the horizontal level. Both the democratic world and the Communist world want to discover something more valuable than material things. They are seeking something spiritual. If we set forth our theory of spiritual value, of a higher dimension than theirs, they are sure to be attracted to that. By the spiritual standard alone, we can enjoy the hope of a brighter future. Things on the spiritual level alone can steer our way through the process and help us reach the goal.

Every human being has spiritual power -- and we find that this spiritual power is the best part of ourselves. Where does it come from, and in what way are we going to use this spiritual power? Some use it for the very best things, and others use it for evil things. Sometimes the evil ones come in disguise -- and most of the people are attracted to that -- but in the long run they find that going that way will lead them to the wrong goal, and so they want to come back to the original point, to start all over again.

Right in the midst of corruption, a new life springs up. This is the phenomenon occurring in the Latter Days or at the close of the age -- and we, living in the close of the age, find great turmoil, chaos and confusion. But out of the confusion the light comes -- and when we are sensitive to the light and find that light, we all join our efforts in steering our way toward the goal set by the Supreme Being.

Then, what should our attitude be at the close of the age, when confusion and chaos prevail? Well, though the ideologies-or those things which have been different from each other -- should not want to draw the other parties to themselves, but should want to near each other and meet at the central point, then the light comes from above to show the way to the goal. That is a great ideology or ism, and we are for that, and the ideology we are now in or under is Unificationism. Through this ideology of Unificationism we want to draw what is Oriental and what is Western -- Occidental -- into oneness like this. Right after the procedure of mixing it into one we set the goal we are headed for; we want to head ourselves toward the final goal that the Supreme Being has set for us.

Up to the present, when those on the left side have wanted to subjugate, conquer or absorb the other party, there has been struggle, opposition and all sorts of prejudice -- and vice-versa -- but here, when they want to come near and meet each other at the central point, they are all happy and revitalized to go ahead toward the final goal. You have intellectual power and reasoning; so you can compare things, and you are not forced to do anything. You cannot be forced to do anything; but if you compare two or more things and find that one of them is the better or find a third thing, entirely different, to be the best, then you would join that. However old and worn-out your clothing may be, it sometimes has sentimental value, and you are reluctant to throw it away -- even if it is all torn and disfigured. Even if you have new clothing, somehow you will unreservedly take off your coat; but if you have something of great sentimental value here -- suppose this ballpoint pen -- even if you take off your clothing, your suit, you will want to keep that pen. That is the expression of the human mind -- trying to take hold of good things and keep them with you. When we say we want to join at the central point, it doesn't mean that we have to leave everything behind and discard everything we ever had -- but that we want to take the good things, the best things, along with us. Even when evacuating a former place at the time of taking refuge, you would wrap up things that you think are good. But if you are here and someone else is showing you better things and is ready to give them to you -- then you will readily discard other things. The moment you get hold of that, your hand will loose the other and let it go.

When we look back on our past, what other things have we valued? Wealth, tradition, knowledge -- but more than anything else, love, life, nothing more. There are not so many things. Even though you may enjoy the independence of your own country, if you are poor, if you are powerless, if you are without knowledge, if you are without love, you are unhappy people. But when you closely examine yourself, your way of thinking, you value your tradition, wealth, knowledge and everything as such; but there is nothing more valuable than your love, and then your life. Compared to your love, your life, all other things are worth nothing. But with your love and life you want to have better love and a better way of life. When a promise comes, then, of a better love and a better life, then you can give up the former things. At the close of the age, when the ultimate value comes, you can throw away everything under your position and set out in search of that. Even to the hippie people, wealth is nothing-position, knowledge, all those things they have hitherto enjoyed are just nothing to them. They readily give up all those things in search of something of more value; but without finding this, they are in distress -- in the state we see them in -- but we have now an ultimate goal set before us. On the way, we need knowledge, we need position, we need power, wealth and everything -- but the value of those things must be entirely different from what we used to think. All those things have been used for self centered purposes, we have been thinking, "This belongs to me," and we hold tight to that and don't want to ever let it go. But from now on we want to use all those things and all that we are for a greater cause -- and our aim or purpose is of a higher dimension. Isn't that true? [YES!] We have found the place, but people have not yet found one like that.

We speak of ideal individuals, ideal families, an ideal world, ideal life, something like that -- but those things remain in our minds. They are just concepts of an ideal self, ideal family, ideal everything -- but there is not a ready-made model of such an ideal person, ideal family, etc. You want to have it, incarnate it, or realize such an individual, family, clan, tribe, etc. But can this come about without any struggle or effort? [NO!] We find that in the history of the United States, what your forefathers have struggled to found or set up is here now as the fruit or crops. Likewise, on our way, we, as the forefathers of our descendants, will also want to struggle hard to set up the standard or to near the goal -- and our future generations will enjoy that, inherited from us. Even though we have already set out in search of those things or to set up those things, before us there is no foundation set up on the individual level, on the family level, or on the national level -- which we want at least to have now. We have still a long, long way to go. But since we have found the goal so apparent and so bright, would we retreat or would we advance forward? [ADVANCE!]

One thing you must know: are you sure that we have the ultimate goal of God's intention before us? [YES!] The greatest discovery by us all is the discovery of God, who is the Center of life, the Center of love, the center of all ideals, the Center of everything of value. Our God is not just a vague God; He has a purpose ahead of us, and He cannot do anything in the world all by Himself, but He has to use man as His instrument. In turn, we, as His children, need Him, and without His cooperation cannot advance. And with those two put together, we are the strongest beings, and can steer our way on with the fullest spirit. At the point of attaining the goal, we will see everything prepared there. We are co-workers on the way -- both God and people and people themselves, in cooperation with each other -- will steer on the way, and there we will find the ideal love, life and everything else. God will take His delight in everything there; both God and man will do that. There alone and then alone can God be a happy God and we be happy people.

The problem is: to what degree are we sure of the bright goal there after we cross over seas and mountains? In the early days of your history, your forefathers were drawn to the West; they went westward in search of gold. The rumor that the gold was rich in the western section of the continent was the thing that created power in them, and the strength to steer forward; with this, they built their culture and civilization. In the pioneer days, the motivation was to find gold; that gold was the motivating power for going through the struggle and hardship. Pace by pace, they would near the West, feeling they almost had the goal. On the way, we want to dash to the goal in our advancement, and we are reluctant to retreat. On the long course, however, we sometimes retreat; but if we don't lose that purpose ahead of us, sometimes retreat means something. When we retreat a little, a few paces backwards, then it means we want to run at full speed. In that way, we want to advance forward by using any means for that purpose. You must remember that the passed-away saints, prophets and martyrs were all headed for the final goal -- but having paved a little way more, they had to be sacrificed. They were ready to sacrifice themselves; they would do things at the risk of their lives. And even at the moment of death, they wouldn't let go of their dream, their goal. So they died successfully. But we have inherited all the foundations that they laid, and our goal is so bright and so near -- within our grasp, within our reach. So there is no excuse for us to say we cannot go on. We have already achieved quite a success here, because we can bring so many people together, from so many nationalities and live as brothers and sisters, transcendent of national boundaries.

In the present world, even on the family level, there is disunity; brothers leave brothers, brothers kill brothers, brothers fight against each other. But in this Family, despite national boundaries, we are one, and live in harmony and love. We have our problems, of course, and we have our agonies; but it is because we are living in a strong beam of light, and can thus see each other's faults all the more. But we want to be mingled together; God is working to mingle us and rub away the sharp edges. We are attracted to the central point so strongly that no other power -- Communist power, etc-can put us asunder or tear us apart. We are a group of world-problem, world-question -- in a good way -- unlike the other groups emerging. We are at one extreme end, while they are at the other extreme, still indulging in sin and darkness. We have had to deny all worldly things, and we are making what looks impossible possible. We are without a nation, without a race, without a family in the real sense. We have denied our brothers and sisters, we have denied our own parents. We have given up those things thought to be the closest and most beloved, and have set out in search of things far ahead of us. We had never before heard of True Parents; new terminology is being used here. We are somehow moved to this new world by leaps; and we find that after we have gotten hold of these new parents, True Parents, our physical parents are fading away from our sight. We call ourselves brothers and sisters, under God as our Parent; and then our own physical brothers and sisters fade away from our minds and we love these people more dearly than the old ones. Why is it so?

What is taking place is a breakthrough. We are entering a new era, and every value in the present world is being turned upside down. A miracle of miracles is happening now. You are asked to forget the grave past. You must be proud of this before the whole population of the world, before the whole spirit world. If you are in such a mood of happiness, ultimate happiness, God will dance about with you here. It is a funny idea, you may think, that God is dancing with you. God will make love here. The love here is not the lovemaking which you see in the parks and in the streets. People have never witnessed God's loving people, His failing in love with us. Have people seen that? People have never witnessed that; we are not only witnessing that, but we are enjoying God's love here. How wonderful it is. If you possess God's love, everything of God's is yours. Your wealth is here. The person whom God loves is mine, the family whom God loves is my family, and there will be my clan, my nation, my world; and when we possess God's love, everything belonging to Him will be ours. However hard you may struggle in search of something valuable, would there be anything more valuable than God's love? Then, if we have found God's love, with that we are the most wealthy people -- and we are the happiest ones. Under our ideology, under one ism, we are going to make God's love ours, centering on each and every individual. This central self of yours will be the center of your family, center of your plans. And you are going to love any individual, love any family, love any nation as ultimately as God would. We want to possess the whole world because God loves the world; we want to make it ours. There is no better way, no way more valuable than the way we are on. The place where we are situated is of untold value, and we wouldn't take the whole world for it. We must have a clear understanding that we have found the thing of the most blessed or highest value, including God. No power, no wealth, nor anything else in the worldly sense can take us back. Why? It is because we have found, for sure, that this place where we are situated is the ultimate place, and here we can enjoy everything we have been seeking for. This is our stand, and we are now marked to run a race from here. Pace by pace, when we run the course, the ideal love and life and will go with us and multiply. Farley, you want to run a track here, but you are not going on by yourself. God is with you; the whole world, with everything of value, is with you. You may cry out on the way, you may perspire, you may gasp -- but God is doing the same thing.

God is cheering you up; and all your ancestors, your relatives, your friends and your descendants on the spiritual level want you to run a good race and be the winner at the first possible date. Since you are sure of this being the ultimate thing, of the highest value, would you want to lose it by dozing off, by relaxing? Your nerve, your attention, your whole being and everything must be poured out into what you are doing now. You must be serious. When you breathe here, when you inhale the air ... you feel that the whole world is coming in support of you. When you exhale, the whole world will be relaxed, and the same thing will be repeated. And, in doing that, like wheels whirling and whirling, repeating the same thing, you will go ahead. In dashing on the way, would you make a detour? Would you zigzag like this or go straight forward, if possible? [STRAIGHT FORWARD!] Straight forward! By straight forward you mean not to zigzag or go in another direction? With only a small difference in the direction, in the long run, you will be led to an entirely different place. Are you really ready to go straight forward? [YES!] It is easy to answer; but have you ever stopped to think, to ask yourself if it is possible for you? If you really want to go straight forward, can you be distracted like this, glancing in different directions? Your eyes, your ears, every one of your senses must be focused on one point.

Suppose you want a large diamond, say ten karats, and you want to have a perfect one. There are technicians making the facets -- and if there appears a little scar, like this, the perfection will be gone. Then it is below the standard and it is a failure. Isn't that right? [YES!] But, in human endeavor, it is good that we can correct our mistakes. From now on, every moment, you must be resolved to go straight ahead without distraction, without any mistakes.

In advancing forward, you want to have today better than yesterday, you want to have tomorrow better than today, next year better than this year, and so on. And, sometimes in retreating, too, you want to do that for the leaps you are going to make. Then, at a point of such gravity, can you complain -- can you afford to complain? Do you have time for that? [NO!] Can you say, "Well, I have the record of having made 104 points; why doesn't he remember my having done that? Well, drive me out and scold me and try to spur me on." But if you are satisfied with the 100 points you have made, you are there always, never advancing forward. Then would you want him to let you alone, or accelerate your pace and drive you out? When you are reluctant like this, never wanting to go ahead, would you want me to? I don't want you to complain; but even if you complain, I want you to advance forward, not retreat. You are destined to go this way, and if I were you I would advance forward before being told to do this or that by the leader. Well, would you do that -- or would you wait until he tells you to do this and that? Without being told, you want to do this. Then you must revitalize yourself and gather your strength -- every morning, every minute -- and steer on your way.

The Leader, God, will run with you; and if you are ahead of Him, at the goal, waiting for Him to come, would He punish you? ... hurt you? Then He, God, the Leader, will praise you, rely on you, trust you and give you more responsibility. You must know that you are being trained in the United States. We are fighting for the great cause in this nation, for this nation. But after being trained here we are going to fight for the whole world. Some will say to themselves, "Oh, Master, when he is here everything is stirred up -- and why is he bringing so many European brothers? What is the necessity of his bringing the Japanese brothers? We are being chased; we are breathless from running." Well, those small Japanese brothers would like to run ahead of you; and without speaking your language, they would still bring in more people and raise more money in the economic campaign. So you feel behind them, at times. But you are not going to be defeated by them, and you are more determined to win over them in good competition. Are you ready for that? [YES!]

As a father, he takes delight in watching his children run in good competition. He cheers up the Japanese brothers and praises them -- and you complain inwardly and say, "Master does that because he is an Oriental man." I think I have already heard that. There is no Oriental, no Occidental in our Family; only God-loving children are we. So our purpose is to obtain the goal at the soonest possible date. That is the only thing we can think of. Be it Japanese, be it Europeans, be it Americans -- he is anxious to have one at least, or more, to be nearing the goal or at the goal. You think of the Israelites as being the central people of God's choice; now we know that the Korean people are the chosen nation -- but do you envy the Korean people? ... or far from that? They are placed in the most difficult situation: God expects more out of them, and God drives them more fiercely in the front-line. So, being the central figure, being the leader, is the most difficult thing. And after running the race, those who reach the goal first will win the prize. I am anxious to have you there. In sending you out onto the race track, I want you to be number one -- like this -- everyone number one, as a father. Would you prefer to do this or this or this? Even a small child will ask, "Would you do this or that?" He raises his hand like this. In doing this, you are willing to get rid of this or subjugate this or this or that -- but you wouldn't want to bend your thumb. Your efficiency will count, and your efforts. Those two put together will bring you success. Your efficiency and capability will come out from another source. It will come in proportion to the degree of love you have toward God. The crops will come about in proportion to how hard you have been struggling. Those are the two standards which will determine how much you accomplish. Does our Leader have a nation of his own? Does he have the world under his dominion? Is he enjoying the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth?

The Kingdom of God on Earth, the ideal kingdom, is not a ready-made thing which we can go and get it -- but we are making it, establishing it, with our own hands. In the fallen world of sin and filth, God has prepared the Latter Days -- the confusion and chaos, out of which will sprout new life. That is what we are for. Both our democratic world and the Communist world have come to a dead end, and they are at a loss as to what to do. But we open our way -- there is an opening from which comes eternal life -- and we are headed for that. We are like people who are going to take refuge; if there is a small opening through which barely one person can go, then the way toward salvation will be so narrow. But if we open up the way so wide and pave the way so smooth for other people to go, following us, then we are pioneers, we are God's heirs for the Great Cause. We are here now to open up the way for the people to reach things on the national level. I cry out, "Let us save the United States!" There is great significance in my crying out that motto. Without other Americans knowing this, we are opening up the way to reach God for this nation, and later for the whole world. You must have ambition, you must have desire. Without desire, without ambition, there is no future.

When we study ancient civilizations, we find that every type of civilization was established and cultivated around a river. By the riverside there are plains; the population becomes dense there. But the ambition of the people on this side of the river is to go across the river to reach the other side, and the people on the other side, vice-versa. What was on the other coast? Later, when the cultural spheres came to be centered around oceans and seas, especially the Mediterranean Sea, those peninsular nations -- they could see across to each other -- dreamed of reaching across to the other side of the sea. With that ambition of the people broadening like this ... when we reach the oceanic type of civilization of transportation, communication, all those things have progressed to the utmost degree. History proves that those who are more ambitious to get to the other end or other coast attain it and enjoy it.

Now we. look at the other planets. Man has dreamed of or endeavored to reach the other planets. Now we have succeeded in reaching the moon. All those things result from our dreams, our ambition, our desire to do that. Our fiery desire, when it is accelerated and motivated from the ultimate power, will bring us to the goal. When the first astronauts reached the moon -- that was the only moment -- the attention of the whole population of the world was focused on one point -- they were utterly united, absolutely united into oneness at that point. When people watched the television to see the astronaut stepping onto the moon, not even the Communists, at that moment, said, "Oh, that is an American fellow; I wish that he would fail." Never did anything like that happen. But at that very moment, every human being, including the Russians, were anxious to have that man reach the goal. All the people of the whole world became one, came into oneness at that moment -- because the endeavor there was their desire also. They were so glad that we succeeded.

All throughout human history, somehow, people have been struggling to establish the ideal world -- even though they may not have called it the Kingdom of God. If they have all died in vain, after such a long struggle, we can state that there is no God. But since there is a God and God is a loving God, our ambition, our human desire will be realized. People may call us fanatics ... but the more fanatic we are, the more ardently we try to attain the goal, the sooner we will reach that goal. All the rest, sooner or later, will be headed for it also. We are the only group of people who try to attain the goal with it set. Once the rocket Apollo 11 was in space they could not repair the machine, they could not put things in order right there. They had to do that before boosting the rocket. In the same way, we must put ourselves in order and be headed straight forward toward the goal. While struggling here, we are being trained through working. We are getting trained, but not at the goal, when we will have established the ideal kingdom. On the way, every moment, we can develop. At every moment we start and re-start. If our aim is to whirl our arms like this, would we like to pour out our full energy to go this much and repeat this more and this much and from the reaction we will go back a little more to the right direction. Would you like to whirl around in perfect oneness? [YES!]

When we propel around, we are sure to advance, when we are all put together. But can you do that all by yourself? With no compass? (By compass I don't mean the navigating one.) In turning around the compass, the axis -- God is holding the axis -- on the central core, you want to cling to each other; and the vaster the number of members, the wider the circle. This axis -- this is the pencil -- we can draw this big a circle, or this big, this big or even this big, with the same compass. What do you call this part -- the center, the axis -- this is the Messiah. The Messianic ideology appears there. If you are not connected with the axis, you cannot do anything. If we draw a circle, starting with the smaller one to a larger and still larger one, this circle represents the individual, the larger circle the family, then the clan, the nation and the world. If you want to draw a bigger circle, you want to be elevated to a higher standard -- and still higher, you draw a bigger circle, like this. You want to cling to him, you want to stick to him; but if you want to come closer ... if you only want to come close, like this, without ... you want to climb up, to have your spiritual standard elevated. But if you want to be close, to stick to him like this, would you be able to draw big circles? You want to spread your wings out to reach the whole world. On the vertical line, you want to be one with him, but you want to draw a big circle; in that case, you are physically separated from him. Likewise, he wants to drive you out to the front-line, and scatter you all to reach every corner of the world. We are not born for ourselves alone -- we are for our family, for our nation, for the whole world. Are you ready to be trained under me for that? [YES!] Would you choose to remain here to be trained, or to fight the real battle? [FIGHT!] To do that you need a strategy. I will teach you that, and then you can make one for yourself. And if you fight while others are asleep, you can move without obstacles, without counter-attack from the enemy -- if you go ahead while the enemy is asleep.

When all Americans come to know this movement, come to join us on the battlefield, it will be too late. You are pioneers; you have know and you have come to join this group before those people, and you have got to attain the goal earlier than they. In wanting to do that, we are not greedy people; we do not want to enjoy the happiness or the goal for ourselves. But by doing that, by pioneering the way, we are paving a smooth path for other people to tread; and we are setting up a tradition for the others to observe and follow. If your direction is different from what it should be, or your manner of going on the way is not wholesome, then you will be pointed out by future generations. You must love your God with all your might, all your love, all your soul -- and if you really love Him, you will do whatever He tells you. His desire for you is that you reach the goal set by Him -- and that alone will make you children of God, heirs of God. Isn't that true? [YES!]

We must conclude: we have known, we have clearly realized, that we are for that goal, and we are history-makers in carrying out our mission. Our goal is clear, only too clear: to establish the Kingdom of God on Earth. You may forget eating, but don't forget this. You can forget sleeping, but don't forget this goal. You must do anything for this. Marriage is no problem here. You need your spouse, you need your friends, you need your brothers and sisters -- but only to do this. If that person is a positive influence, you will have him or her -- but not otherwise. With that goal ahead of you, you can be one with each other. If you really want to resemble God, since God's ultimate goal is there, you want to run and meet Him there. God is at the central point, and we want to join Him on the axis, on the vertical line, where our aim will be the same as one another. God is advancing forward, always anxious to have you follow Him. God is on the axis, to draw bigger and bigger circles to include the whole world. Obstacles are ahead of us, having been laid by the evil power; and we have to jump with confidence to get over them by leaps and bounds. We must jump over those obstacles. Sometimes we have to dodge past those obstacles, without desire, our courage, our ambition. Our desire and ambition must be stronger than anyone else's. Then we will be strong enough to get over the obstacles.

First you must have a fiery desire for the goal. You must have a clear goal, and a fiery ambition or desire to attain that goal. Are you like that? [YES!] Wouldn't you complain, saying, "Well, if God is a God of love, why is He putting me in such a hot shell?" When you run on the track, is it easy to do that? You have to perspire, you have to do your best, and no relaxation is there. But in doing that, you want to get to the goal and there is your prize, your pride and everything. And God, in driving you out on the track, means to give you- a prize when you reach the goal. If you are in a marathon, on the track, would you be so sympathetic and kind as to help your co-runner like this?...if you want to ... you will get behind like this, and you cannot be the first winner of the prize. Then you will be a failure there. The harder you run, the more God will be with you, helping you. Isn't that true? [YES!] We are desperate to restore our dignity as sons of God, and He is anxious to have you run and be the first winner. We will meet at the goal, and everyone must cling to God and pray to Him, asking Him to leave everything in your hands. You can shoulder the responsibility.

You think that I am stirring you up here, and harshly driving you ahead. But if you could run all by yourselves, so fast, in due manner, in a well-trained way -- why on earth do I have to be here? I can leave everything in your hands and go to another place to do the same. You still need me, I think; that is why I am here. Do you need me or not? [YES!] You have not quite reached maturity and you need your parents; but as soon as you are married, you don't need your parents anymore. I want you to be that. You have not quite reached that point, so you need me, and that is why I am here for you. You must find the central point, and on the way you must have the goal, the real goal, and the zeal or ambition to be the motivating power; then you must take interest in what you are doing, interest and stimulation. You are the heroes and heroines on the human stage. All the rest are just standbys, watchers -- but you are the history-makers. But you are not just actors and actresses, acting out false scenes. You are acting out things that are greater than those people. If I train these young people to solidify our foundation, so that ours will be recognized by the outside world -- we can do just anything to turn this world upside down, under God's will. We will let history prove it; we will be stronger than those people. We are going to be stronger than anyone else, and we will have made history -- or righted the wrongs, in other words.

I am the busiest man in the whole world. I am always the most tired person, too; but I am leaving for New York today and Boston tomorrow, then back, and I have many things to settle and to do. But if I am reluctant, or if I am horrified when faced with this amount of work, can I do it? I always feel stimulated; I am ambitious, I am stimulated and I take interest in doing these things. That is what makes it possible for me to do them. If you were God, would you like to have your children, when running on the track, relax and cry and run out of energy like this?...or would you like to see your children run a good race, with great glee and zeal? As we near the goal, the faster we must run. And if we win the goal, God will be waiting there for us, and a prize will be ours. We are going to be victors. But we are not going to enjoy the prize or victory -- we will enjoy our having been a success and having paved a smooth way for others to travel. We want to know the true way of advancement, to pave the way for others, to set up the tradition for others. If you continue to retreat, you will be a failure. Advancement means life, while retreat means destruction, failure or death. Retreat is not desirable -- because to stop is to die. So we must advance forward with all our might and all our zeal.

In philosophy, one topic that is always explored concerns the nature of the ideal and material worlds. One always poses questions concerning the ideal first; only then does one pose questions concerning the material. However, the material and ideal are true only in relationship to each other. That is, by the difference in the application of the two -- the ideal and the material -- in our daily lives, various philosophies of this world can come into existence.

In philosophy, logic is used to explain the existence of cause.

The theory of cognition provides the formula for how these things can be perceived and words like "goodness" or "truth" or "love" are often used. What are they? We often think these words come from a concept or idea, an invisible thing. From where does this idea come? There must be a being who had the idea. Thus, the being and his idea cannot be the same. But that means that God, Himself cannot be merely an idea or concept.

We know that truth, goodness and love are abstract concepts and they cannot exist by themselves. Truth cannot exist by itself. Goodness cannot exist by itself. Love cannot exist by itself. Truth, goodness and love are mediators which can link other things together. When we think of "goodness," then there must be someone who has a personality or character of goodness. Thus, if there were no God, then love or goodness as ideas could have no meaning. With the existence of God comes meaning.

Therefore, in our Unification Philosophy we have a new concept which established philosophies do not have: We call it personality. Man has man's capacity or personality, also woman has woman's capacity or character. Man is not the same as woman. Then, how can these different characters come together? For these two different characters to be united, they need love, truth and beauty. Love, truth and beauty are necessary linking elements to the concept that something is good or beautiful. To make these two one, we have to think of the concept of subject and object. We call the highest subject God.

Thought, idea or ideology are all your thinking, but your "thinking" is not you. Many abstract words are not actually the self. Love is not the self. These are all linking elements to make two beings one. In this understanding, when you desire to be a good singer, that desire to be good is a linking mechanism to make yourself and your object one. Therefore, to resolve the idea of making the self and the object one, I made a new concept of character, which is dependent on two beings.

We say that material is made of energy. This energy cannot be a vague energy. If the above is true, then by these themselves, everything can be solved. Then there should be two beings: subject and object. To make both of them good, there must be this condition. In the relationship between God and man, if God is above and man is below then this relationship cannot be a mutual relationship -- that is just a one-sided relationship. Therefore, to avoid this situation, God must also have a horizontal subject and object relationship. From this standpoint, we have to think of the dual characteristics of God.

When we say God is above, man is below, that is a vertical relationship; that cannot be a horizontal relationship. Thus, God also needs subject (Hyung-Sang) and object (Sung-Sang); and from this the dual characteristics of God come in. This means that within God Himself there must be Sung-Sang and Hyung-Sang. Within Himself, there must be truth, beauty and love. Also, God created man to have a vertical relationship; therefore, to have a perfect relationship with God, man must also have a subject-object relationship within himself. From this, give and take action comes into being. Therefore, dual characteristics and give and take action are necessary in the Divine Principle, or Unification philosophy.

In give and take action, the purpose is to become one. To become one you must go through three stages of growth. To become one, not only these two, but all beings, must be happy. From this view of life, the individual, family, clan, and nation comes. Unity between God and man is not the final goal. After establishing this, then we have to expand this relationship. This is the view of life; this is the most important element. We have to always think that beauty, truth and love are attributes of an abstract nature, and there must be one personality which has these natures. This ultimate being is God. God has such a nature; therefore, God thinks and God has an idea. God has the idea of truth. Also, He has the idea of beauty, the idea of goodness, the idea of love.

A personality perceives the existence of abstract ideas. Then, what is the purpose of love, truth and beauty? They are to become one. When the purpose is realized, then the being that realized it can become an eternal being. To become an eternal being, humankind must be united. All philosophies have the purpose of making subject and object one. Without subject and object, nothing can exist. To make these two one there is only one way. There can be many similar ways, but if they deviate from the straight line then that is not perfect unity. Therefore, there can be only one way for perfect unity.

If the relationship deviates from the straight line, then it cannot be true -- or absolute -- love, truth and beauty. We can say that love, truth and beauty are the elements that are necessary in the process to make subject and object one. Because of these natures, we can have stimulation. By having these natures, we can become one and continue to seek unity with a higher being -- then we become one with God. When we become one with God, then we can finish our purpose. Without subject and object, man cannot know truth. For ideal existence, we need subject and object. Also, power or force cannot come about alone. For force to exist, there must be action. To make action we also need two beings. Thus action and force also come through the relationship between subject and object.

In summary, first think that there is subject and object, and also the personality of subject and object. The personality of humankind is God and the personality of God is humankind. The reason why God created humankind and the universe was to have an object of stimulation. Also, for God to work, He must work in perfect oneness between subject and object. If this relationship deviates even a little bit, then God cannot work.

The base of Unification Thought is subject and object, for example, the union between God and man, husband and wife, parents and children, family and tribe, tribe and nation, and nation and world. When we come to have this concept of subject and object, the idea of ideal and purpose automatically comes about. Without subject and object there cannot be any existence. That is not just a vague concept, but that is personality. The perfect personality of man and perfect personality of woman must be united. By having these ideas we have to always think of subject and object relationships -- and also personality.

To take the position of an eternal, objective personality to an eternal, subjective personality -- this is our life's purpose. The most important thing is the concept of subject and object. Man's purpose is to seek his object. The reason why we explain the dual characteristics of God is to explain God's personality or character, which is subject and object. Personality cannot come in vertical relationships; there must always be horizontal relationships. A man of character means a man whose mind and body are united. By having this relationship, man can stand in the same position as God. All elements are made of subject and object, following the pattern of God. Therefore, they can be eternal beings. From God to the smallest elements of the universe, they are made of the same pattern.

Now you understand the capacity or personality of character. This is the reason why everything is made in a relative relationship. We can apply this idea to anything, to any being. Because of this, we can say that this is Unification Thought.

You have to ask why there are dual characteristics, give and take action, and three stages of growth. These are to explain this relationship. So, is it clear? This is God's idea. If everything is not met through this -- human's eyes and ears, etc. -- horizontal positions cannot be carried out. By the unification of these things, then humankind can become a humankind of character. Also, when man and woman unite, they can become the ideal couple. To make these two one, then we need ideology, beauty, love and goodness. Also, movement comes from this relationship. Why? Because of this relationship, one side wants to give out, and the other wants to receive. From this relationship there can be action.

Thus the basic idea of Unification Thought is very simple. Do you understand this? Yourself and your mind must be united, you and your work, you and your nation must be united -- everything must be united. Why is this? That is to make the eternal personality. This is logical. God is the same.
