Hyung Jin Nim at the Washington Area meeting about In Jin Moon's resignation

September 21, 2012

Hyung Jin Nim listened with utmost sincerity at his Washington Area appearance tonight. He listened with his body and soul. For five hours, ending exactly at midnight, he and Yeon Ah Nim digested every type of complaint, every type of anguish and hurt, every type of personality.

He made it clear that In Jin Nim had sinned. While acknowledging his love for her and his respect that she resigned all her positions at True Mother's request, he let it be known that the so-called "satellite blessing" had no spiritual basis and would not get any traction at all. This alleviated the concerns of many who could see people maneuvering in the background and on the internet to try to find a way for In Jin Nim to somehow get back in. Hyung Jin Nim closed that door firmly.

We left with a feeling that Hyung Jin Nim would usher in a new era of transparency and accountability for leadership. He said he would probably have a nationwide church service once a month and then local pastor-led sermons the rest of the time. We were overjoyed to hear this. When he said he would work out of East Garden, the feeling of that was enormously comforting. East Garden is the cradle of our faith, for most of us, and knowing that he and Yeon An Nim would be the new masters of that house made us feel deeply connected to a sense of continuity.

Every kind of person came to the microphone and spoke. It was supposed to last an hour, but he said he would stay until the entire line of people had been heard. People speaking were intellectual, emotional, angry. Some asked Hyung Jin Nim if we could trust his standard, having seen Father's principles betrayed by two True Children already. One woman delivered a fiery sermon that went on and on and on. It was actually quite righteous and inspiring. Hyung Jin Nim listened intently, comfortable to let her continue all night if she wished. He was moved by her passion and expressed his gratitude afterward. The final speaker was a young married second generation woman who just stood at the microphone and cried, thanking Hyung Jin Nim for coming and for being who he is.

I thought she was speaking for all of us.

Sun Myung Moon's Seonghwa Address

Hyung Jin Moon
September 15, 2012
International President of the Unification Church

Distinguished guests from home and abroad, and citizens of God's kingdom, Cheon Il Guk, who have filled this stadium and beyond! We are here today on this sacred occasion in attendance of God and True Parents to hold the Universal Seonghwa Ceremony for the True Father of Heaven, Earth and Humankind.

God sent our True Father to earth as the Savior, Messiah, returning Lord, True Parent and King of Kings in order to bring salvation to fallen humankind. This Seonghwa Ceremony is the solemn occasion throughout heaven and earth by which our True Father, who has led and guided God's providence of salvation throughout his life, will transition into the spirit world after concluding his life on earth.

True Father received God's heavenly call when he was fifteen. From then on, he readied himself to sacrifice his own safety and health and even face death in order to complete the great work necessary to release God from His bitter sorrow, liberate humanity and create a world of everlasting peace. True Father dedicated his life of ninety-three years to this. Toward the end of his time on earth, True Father declared that he had "accomplished everything" in relation to Heaven's will. This meant that he had successfully concluded, completed and perfected the work God had given him to do. I stand here today in order to offer gratitude and praise to True Father who laid and achieved an extraordinary foundation of victory.

Beloved guests from home and abroad and citizens of Cheon Il Guk!

God's desire was to raise one perfected man and woman.

Together with True Mother, True Father inherited God's true love, and they became the True Parents of humankind. God, True Father and True Mother fulfilled the substantial trinity and completed a true family through their children.

Transcending race, religion and nation, True Parents bestowed the grace of the Holy Blessing on numerous people throughout the world. Through establishing the tradition of blessed marriage, True Father laid the cornerstone to achieve the ideal of one family under God. No one else has been able to accomplish this in all of history.

Ultimately, True Father's course and his accomplishments were all for the purpose of creating an ideal world of freedom centering on a heavenly family, which God had envisioned in the Garden of Eden.

Distinguished guests, brothers and sisters! Gathered here today are current and former heads of state and other dignitaries who shared True Father's lifelong vision and worked with him to create a movement for world peace. True Father showed great interest not only in his religious activities but also in politics, economics, society, culture, the arts, the media, education, and welfare. Working in all these fields, he presented a comprehensive vision for world peace.

One of True Father's predictions, which I'm sure you all remember, is his prophetic declaration of the end of communism at the second Professors World Peace Academy International Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, in August 1985. True Father also proclaimed the Pacific-Rim era and later spoke of the challenges the island nations on the Pacific Rim would face. I am sure all of you will agree that his prediction accurately describes the situation that is unfolding in the island nations of the Pacific Rim region today.

These are just some notable examples. There are countless predictions and profound teachings on the subject of world peace and the well-being of humankind in the more than six- hundred published volumes of True Father's selected speeches. We who will open the way to the future must inherit True Father's teachings and tradition in their entirety, and fight for freedom and peace in the world. We should raise our voices for the sake of global stability and security. We who have inherited True Father's vision and legacy must cry out for an ideal world of freedom. In so doing, all people will come to realize how important freedom is and how precious is this gift that God has given us.

True Father's vision is encapsulated in his belief in the inauguration of the "Abel UN," in which all the world's religious leaders would stand in the vanguard, working for peace on earth. True Father led the effort to create the "Abel UN" and the "Abel Women UN" for the pursuit of freedom, peace, unity and happiness. These institutions will fight against and triumph over today's secular and materialistic ideologies that impede the realization of God's will and peace for all people.

Consequently, all people should take to heart the teachings and tradition that True Father has shown us as a model, based on which we will realize true peace on earth; we must take the path toward an ideal world of freedom.

Beloved brothers and sisters! Through the Coronation [Enthronement] for the Kingship of God, on January 13, 2001, True Father declared the day of God's liberation and complete freedom, and thereafter proclaimed the Nation of Cosmic Peace and Unity (Cheon Il Guk), a new nation centered on God. In that light, at the celebratory banquet on True Parents' birthday in 2010, he designated Foundation Day, the 13th day of the 1st heavenly calendar month in 2013, as the starting point of the Nation of Cosmic Peace and Unity.

True Father revealed that God's kingdom, Cheon II Guk, is a kingdom where "two become one" in true love, and that its starting point will be two people, each of whose mind and body are united. Cheon II Guk is True Parents' unique vision of a real community of humankind as God had envisioned at the very outset, in the Garden of Eden, when He created the first human beings. It is an ideal world of freedom centered on true love and characterized by true freedom, peace, unity and happiness.

True Father declared that Foundation Day will be a new day of eternal life, where a new heaven and new earth will be opened with God at the center and eternal liberation and complete freedom will be enjoyed.

The task that remains now on earth is ours to accomplish. That is, to become citizens of Cheon Il Guk. True Father has bequeathed all 615 volumes of his sermons and the eight great heavenly textbooks to be his final words to us. These teachings shall be our compass in guiding us to live a truly valuable life in this world. If you practice these teachings, a nation and culture that carries on the mission of Heaven's dispensation -- which we call Cheon II Guk -- will surely emerge.

From True Parents we have inherited great teachings and truth, plus their vision for Cheon Il Guk. True Father's indomitable spirit is absolutely crucial to overcoming all the oppression and hatred that remain in the world. It is now time to put all of our strength into substantiating Cheon II Guk.

Now with life-or-death resolve, we should invest ourselves completely and work for the building of Cheon II Guk based on the exemplary life of true love and the vision True Father has shown to all humankind.

On October 8, 2009, True Father proclaimed that based on the Association of the United Spiritual and Physical Worlds, the communities of the spiritual and physical worlds will become one. Father will guide us for eternity and will conclude the providence through True Mother, who has achieved complete and ultimate unity with him. Brothers and sisters of the Unification Family, we should unite centering on True Mother and firmly advance toward the completion of the substantial Cheon II Guk and the victory of Foundation Day, which is God's ultimate desire.

Beloved True Father! You have achieved everything God desired you to achieve on earth!

You were released from the hospital on August 12. The very next day you went around Cheon Jeong Gung and, while holding True Mother's hands, you offered a final, serious prayer. At that time, you reported to God that you had achieved everything. You entered the eternal world after bestowing on us the providential numbers "2012.9.3 01:54," which signify that you have fulfilled and completed everything.

In Matthew chapter 18 verse 18, Jesus said "Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." True Father loosed everything that had been bound on earth -- this was achieved for the first time since the Creation.

True Father had the task of opening the gates of heaven prior to Foundation Day for the myriads of people in the spirit world. Cheon Il Guk cannot be a kingdom only for those on earth. If Cheon II Guk is on earth, it must also exist in the heavenly world, and if Cheon Il Guk exists in the heavenly world it must also exist on earth. Consequently, with 172 days remaining until D-Day, Foundation Day, True Father went to the heavenly world while entrusting this final task on earth to True Mother and to all blessed family members.

On January 21, 2007, True Father stated: "Everything should be brought to an end by the 13th day of the 1st month in 2013. God's will for this is going to be fulfilled even if I am unable to live until then. I will go to the spirit world and have the people there institute a revolution." He said he would open the doors to the heavenly kingdom, which until today has had no owner, and take full command. Today these words ring in our hearts.

Therefore, on the 13th day of the 1st month of the heavenly calendar in 2013, True Mother on earth, and True Father in heaven shall simultaneously proclaim the Foundation Day of Cheon Il Guk. At the time of the celebration accompanying the proclamation of Foundation Day, the living works of the "God of Night" who resides in the heavenly world and the "God of Day" who resides on earth shall commence. God's new era will begin simultaneously both on earth and in heaven.

Beloved True Father! Before leaving this world, you repeatedly reminded us that the "God of Night" and the "God of Day" will work together in unison. It is only today that we realize the meaning of this. As you had asked us to do, we shall offer everything and completely invest ourselves with life-or-death resolve until Foundation Day, and we will surely obtain victory. We shall build a nation of the ideal world of freedom that God and True Parents envision for us on earth.

Today, all the world's people are sending you, True Father, off to the heavenly kingdom. We are resolved to follow your way of life and the teachings that you, True Father, have shown us throughout your life. We sincerely pray that you will guide us so that we unite with True Mother absolutely and take the lead in building Cheon II Guk, the ideal world of freedom.

True Father! You worked so very hard. We have no way to express our gratitude to you for bequeathing us your teachings and true love!

True Father! Brothers and sisters, let us shout together, "We love you" three times.

We love you. We love you! We love you!

Brothers and sisters, let us shout "Thank you for working so very hard," three times.

Thank you for working so very hard. Thank you for working so very hard! Thank you for working so very hard!

We shall attend you for eternity. We will love you forever. We shall eternally fulfill your will.

Thank you.

The Cross of True Father

Hyung Jin Moon
August 26, 2012
Korea

Hello, everyone. First, I'd like to express my gratitude to the many members throughout the world who have been offering Jeong Seong last week and this week. Those prayers have given Father a lot of energy and also have given a lot of power and energy to True Mother, who is protecting and being with True Father day after day. The True Children are with Father around the clock, 24 hours, taking turns; the staff members are with True Parents as well; and the CARP [Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles] students are also taking turns to be with Father at the hospital. We're very grateful for everyone's Jeong Seong.

Last week, as you know, Father had to struggle against many circumstances. This is not an easy fight. I will go into detail a little bit more a little later, but last week there was an infection in his blood, so we were concerned about that. Fortunately after the week was over, that was caught and resolved. We could eliminate that infection, so we're very grateful about that.

Also last week, as you have heard, the oxygen saturation level in Father's blood was similar to the previous week, and he's still attached to many machines. Right now he is fighting, investing himself fully in a struggle of life and death. This is not an easy thing, not a simple thing at all. Please understand that.

Spiritual and Physical Salvation

Let's begin with Father's words. Let's read these together, on page 685 of Cheon Seong Gyeong.

"The Messiah goes from the bottom of hell to the top of the most glorious place in the world of humankind. This means that there is no place that he would not go, even at the risk of his life, to save humankind."

Aju.

Now when I look at this, I'm reminded of John 3:16,

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Aju.

We've learned from the Principle that Jesus came to offer not only spiritual salvation but physical salvation as well. However, because of the insufficiencies of humanity, Jesus died earlier than he should have, and he was able to give only spiritual salvation to humanity. When God had to send Jesus the way of the cross, this was a very painful thing for God. Also, this was not the path that God originally desired for Jesus. If only humanity had received Jesus and accepted him as Messiah, he would not have gone that course!

Jesus went that way, however, in the end. Even though this was not God's first choice, God was able to use that course to give humanity spiritual salvation. In other words, the crucifixion and resurrection course of Jesus made it possible for humanity's mind to go to God, and humanity could receive salvation in the world of the heart and the mind.

When the Lord of the Second Advent comes, however, we have the opportunity to go to the world and to the place that God desires us to go. That is the mission of the returning Lord. So Father came, and True Parents came, to provide to humanity not only spiritual salvation but also physical salvation.

The Government as the Archangel

Father and Mother have gained victory through an incredible struggle. But still when we look at our world, we see that in humanity's history we've had tyrants and dictators, and until now we've been living in the realm of Satan. We see that the government, which is in the position of the archangel, has dominated human beings. That is the world we have lived in.

We know through the Principle that by taking advantage of Adam and Eve's freedom of choice the archangel took away Adam and Eve's position as lords of creation. Now we need to return to that position and to restore the three great blessings. In the past, no matter how much we may have tried, humanity was always in the position of slaves. The kingdoms that should have allowed humanity to go to God instead oppressed humanity. As we analyze any and all countries, we know that although government is necessary, the position of the government should be to assist humanity to develop and grow toward God. But not only in the modern age but also throughout history we see that all the nations that have existed have always pushed down humanity.

If we look at the current world as well -- as we saw in the news last week and as we see what's going on in the world -- we can see that the world we live in is very unstable. It's not just the weather. I know, the weather was poor last week. It seemed like heaven was crying. It's been raining in Korea for the past two weeks. But also we see instability in the countries around the world.

The Weakening of the United States

Father spent 33 years in the United States, investing himself in order to save America, but America has fallen a long way. It is becoming weaker and weaker. The government is growing larger, and as it does the freedom of its citizens is lessening. In the last four years the president of the United States has increased the debt about $5 trillion. There's an election going on now.

Father always challenged America. He challenged its president and always tried to meet the president of the United States. The United States needs to go on the correct course in order for the world to be able to go on the correct course. Now America and the world are going in the direction of socialism. The position that America occupied in the world is going down. You've all heard the Strong Korea lecture, so you see that another force is growing stronger. This is a force that does not pursue freedom. Instead it pursues strength and power -- not power that tries to give freedom to other countries, but power that has the character to try to take away the freedom of other countries and other peoples.

We see that the force of China is different from the force of the United States. China is not a country that will sacrifice itself in order to give freedom to other countries. If the 21st century were to be dominated by that kind of a force, then this will be a very dark century. It would be a world that is under an oppressive force, very different from the United States. Until now the United States has protected Korea and Japan. Father was always telling America that it had to fulfill that responsibility, and America did that.

In the current situation the United States is drowning in debt. The government is growing larger, and America itself is becoming smaller and weaker. It has a lot of debt and it is wasting a lot of money. As a result, America is becoming weaker, and as a result the world is becoming more and more dangerous.

The Growing Power of China

We saw last week already that what Father prophesied in 2005 is coming true: The island countries are now facing a problem in the Pacific. You remember Father's words of 2005, don't you, about the Pacific realm? He said that the island nations must be careful and must quickly come together, otherwise, large countries such as China and Russia may be able to take over such countries in just a day and make them their own. This is what Father prophesied in 2005. From 2005, Father was concerned about this kind of thing. We were not aware; we heard those words, and we couldn't understand what he was talking about.

If you saw the news last week, I'm sure you know what kind of thing is going on. We've prepared a number of slides. This one shows Chinese activists landing on the Senkaku Islands, saying, "Oh, this belongs to China." And Japanese activists have landed there saying, "This belongs to Japan." These are very small islands. This was last week. Because of these activities, the atmosphere within China is changing very much.

Let's go to the next slide. Now there are demonstrations going on in China as anti-Japanese feeling is growing. People are saying, "Let's fight Japan." They're turning Japanese cars upside down. This photo was taken in Guangdong last week. Something needs to be changed.

Religion Must Give Truth to Politicians

We are a religion, but we cannot just look at religion. This is what Father has always said. We don't just speak about spiritual things. In the ideal world, religion, politics, and economics must move together. Religion cannot just sit still. Religion is not just prayer and meditation. That is not all religion does in the ideal world. If politics goes bad, then in the ideal world religion in the Abel position needs to take care of that. If the world goes too much in the wrong direction, then religion must stand up and oppose that. That has not been done by religion until now because religion was under the government or was under a certain dictator. But in the ideal world it cannot be like that.

That is why Father has always told religious leaders that religion must challenge political leaders to say the right things, to give truth to the political leaders. This is how the world must go.

Last week we saw problems in the Middle East. You're aware of this, aren't you? Peace is not coming to the Middle East. Last week Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu said that by September 25th the United States must make a decision; otherwise, because Iran is developing nuclear weapons and Israel is worried about this, there's a high possibility that Israel may attack Iran.

What kind of world are we living in? Are the citizens of Korea thinking about this, or are they just living comfortably? In the Middle East, there is a high possibility of war. It's not just fooling around. And if there's war in the Middle East, the United States will have to become involved. If the U.S. becomes involved, then probably Russia also will become involved because it has a lot of interest in the Middle East. If the United States becomes involved, other countries will not be able to stay still.

The First World War began with a very small conflict, and it developed into a world war. Why is it that modern people think erroneously that war cannot occur in our generation? We are going into a very dangerous and fearful time. It is not fooling around.

In the Principle, there is the prediction, the prophecy, that the third world war must come. It may be an ideological war, or it may be a hot war. But the direction that the world is going now is not the direction of an ideological war. This is a situation that is deteriorating very quickly.

Some religion, some faith has to stand up and fight for the freedom of the world. It has to shout out for the safety and security of the world. Some religion must stand up -- not simply standstill, but stand up -- and shout out for the ideal world of freedom. It must let people know how precious freedom is, how precious is the gift that God has given us. Until now humanity has lived like slaves under tyrants and dictators and we must not repeat that kind of history.

Father Is on the Cross

In this ominous age Father suddenly became ill. I was with Father for a year and a half, as you know. He would have colds and he would become ill, but I saw that he would recover very quickly. For maybe a few days, he might feel some difficulty, but a few days later he would come back to Hoon Dok Hae and be as strong as ever. I saw that continuously.

Whether he's in Las Vegas or wherever he might be, I often heard him say, "I'm going to live until 117," and I believe that. But why, suddenly, is Father suffering this excruciating pain now? As I said last week, 10 years ago in the United States Father had a serious operation, and the day he went into the hospital was the day on which the Iraq war began.

Who is the Lord of the Second Advent? He's the most precious existence to God. He's more precious than the entire cosmos put together. Now, when the world is going into an immensely dangerous time, why is it that Father again must take up the cross? This week, Father's pulse and oxygen saturation rate were stabilized, and we're grateful to God for this. People say, "Oh, I heard Father's improved a lot," but Father is still fighting.

The doctor said it this way. He said generally people might recover at a speed of 55 kilometers an hour, for example. Comparatively, Father might improve a little bit but the speed of his improvement is like five kilometers an hour compared with a normal person's recovery. So, Father is fighting day in and day out.

When the world is standing on the cliff and appears about to head into war, Father is experiencing this kind of pain. This week as we watched Father -- and if you've seen older people in the hospital, maybe you can understand -- in order to help Father's oxygen saturation and his breathing, a tube must go through his mouth. If that remains in the throat for too long, then it causes problems, so the tube had to be changed this week. Otherwise bacteria might get in.

In the past when we would go to see Father, we would see the tube in Father's mouth and there was a plastic part that covered the mouth. We had to change that, and it was extremely uncomfortable for Father. It was so painful for him that he bit down on the tube so hard that one of his teeth fell out. We took out that plastic part. It was very difficult for us to go to Father.

We've always seen Father being so strong, but now he is lying down, and the part covering his mouth is not there, so he has to keep his mouth open. Of course, he must be kept in a state of sleep because his situation is so painful.

This week the doctor will make a decision whether to keep the tube in Father's throat or to open a passage into his throat. Think about it. Throughout Father's life, he has given us God's word; he's always been active, always moving around. For almost two weeks now, he's been restrained because there are so many tubes in him. To keep them from coming out, his arms have to be restrained. Also, he cannot express himself in words. This is more difficult than the cross, greater suffering.

This past week as I have seen Father, I really feel that Father is on the cross. It is as if he's been nailed to a cross. Even Jesus was in that situation only for a few hours. But Father is in this situation day after day. This is not just our father. This is your father. He's the father of the world. You offered a lot of Jeong Seong last week, and I'm very grateful to those who did that. Members around the world are offering a lot of Jeong Seong. I'm receiving e-mails and other messages.

Really, we don't know what is going to happen. We need to offer Jeong Seong with greater effort. What's most painful for me is that I'm not able to do anything for Father. I'm not able to bring him water; I'm not able to talk with him in a relaxed way. I cannot talk with him about anything. There's nothing I can do for him, and that for me is the most difficult.

Jesus' disciples, as they saw him on the cross, felt helpless because they couldn't do anything for him. They wanted to do something for him, but they couldn't. In that situation the disciples denied Jesus. If Jesus had been on the cross for a long time, then the disciples may have said, "It's difficult for me; I'm in difficulty; why do I have to continue to withstand this situation?" But I'm sure the members of the Unification Church are not that kind of sons and daughters.

Yesterday, for example, we were able to see a photograph of Father's lungs. The right lung was not recovering, so we were concerned. But when we compared the photograph with one taken two days before that, the doctor showed us that the right lung had not been recovering, but yesterday there was some oxygen getting in through the right lung. But he's still in the ICU, and it's still very painful for him.

Truly we must give more power and strength to Father. We must offer Jeong Seong together for that.

Lovin' Life Sunday Sermon Notes for August 19, 2012

Sun Myung Moon, Hak Ja Han and Hyung Jin Moon

1. Hyung Jin recognized all the True Children and the members of their families who were present; Ye Jin Nim, In Jin Nim, Jeung Jin Nim, Yeon Jin Nim, Sun Jin Nim, Kwon Jin Nim. He also mentioned that the daughters in laws were at the hospital with True Mother.

2. All across the world – thanks to all of our brothers and sisters. Many many brothers and sisters from many countries, and from all countries, whether it's Brazil or …. They are offering Jeon Sung and prayers, an incredible amount of prayers for True Parents.

3. Today, my words are not just addressed to the local members, but to all members around the world. So let's give a round of applause to all the members around the world.

4. We need to remember Father is not just a normal person. Father's body is not just a normal body. About 10 years ago in America Father went through a very difficult situation with his health. I think many members already know about this, but at that time Father had to have heart surgery, because water kept flowing in. So 10 years ago he had to have an operation.

5. On the day that he went into the hospital the Iraq war began. My older brother is telling me to take deep breaths (Hyung Jin Nim is on the verge of tears). True Parents' mind and body are always connected to the Providence. If we look at the world today there are many dangerous situations. In 2005 Father predicted, he predicted the pan Pacific age, specifically that the island nations were in danger. Russia and China may use their overwhelming strength to take over the island countries – he said that that kind of a time might come. Already seven years ago he predicted this. Now we are witnessing that reality. The Senkaku Island, we see the Chinese citizens landed there and the Japanese police took them into custody. We see that that is a situation where there is a great possibility for conflict. You have seen the statistics that Kook Jin Nim gives in his lecture on strong Korea. Even now Korea and Japan are having conflict because of various content, whether it is territorial issues or other issues. Actually the free countries need to unite as one so they can stand up against the countries of communist dictatorship. They need to defend themselves against this challenge and this is a very important period in that sense. But instead we are fighting over a small island and that is what the world is witnessing.

6. The United States – economically now (declining) and so it is just standing by quietly. In the Divine Principle words, we see in part two, where there is the prophecy about the Third World war. And depending on human portion of responsibility, that war may be an actual war or it may be a conflict of ideologies. But, the Divine principle says that the Third World war must come, one way or the other. So this is an incredibly important time. Father who is responsible to save the world pushed himself way beyond his limits.

7. He went back and forth between Korea and the United States and as soon as he would arrive he would have assemblies where he would speak for three hours, four hours, and then he would have Hoon Dok Hae for 13 hours, 14 hours, 15 hours, 17 hours. I've been attending True Parents for the past year and a half, and this is how it's been continuously.

Sun Myung Moon, Hak Ja Han and Hyung Jin Moon

8. In the heavily calendar, or in the – I will use the solar calendar so it won't be confusing – on July 16 Father returned from Las Vegas to Korea. As soon as he arrived in Korea, while he was still in the plane he contacted Korea and told all members to gather in the Chungshim World Center. I am sure you remember and you all attended there. At that event he sweated as he spoke for three hours, four hours, and gave us words. The next morning at Hoon Dok Hae, the workshop for the Original Divine Principle was going on at that time and so he received the participants of that workshop.

9. From that time things became a little bit strange. His health seemed to be a little bit strange. As I was attending Father, when Father would catch cold or when he would have a slight fever or when he would be feeling bad, I saw them recover many many times, tens of times. When it was difficult he would take a rest – after that the next day he would come out again to Hoon Dok Hae and be very active and animated. I saw that many times.

10. But this time Father continued to cough – coughing a lot. We did not think that it was such a serious thing. Who could have predicted that would become like this, he was just coughing a little bit. But he continued to push himself – 10 hours Hoon Dok Hae, meeting the IW's for 13 hours, then Geomundo Island, he would push himself beyond his limits again. He would continuously – he was so active it was difficult for a young person to keep up with him.

11. As he went on like that, the coughs became more serious and gradually the people around him started to become concerned. On August 2 of the solar calendar he was at the Osan School. Do you know the Osan School? In our history, this is a middle school – high school that is mentioned in our history. He suddenly said he had to come to Seoul and visit the Osan School. The Osan School is located near Hanamdong. That was an off day, a weekend, so there was no staff or teachers there. He sat in the lobby there and called all the leaders of our church and told us to speak about the history of the Osan School – he had the leaders report on that. That day his cough was very serious. When he would start speaking, every time he started speaking he would cough. He couldn't speak without also beginning to cough. People were saying, "I think this cough is becoming very serious." People were very concerned on that day.

12. Continuously Father went to the Cheon Jeong Goon and he continued to cough. And Mother said, "This is too serious. Let's go to the hospital." But you know about him, you know how his personality is – what an incredible personality he has. He doesn't listen to anyone. And Mother was continuously saying, "Please please, Father you need to go to the hospital."

13. On August 3, without anyone knowing, Father was admitted to the Holy Mother Hospital in Seoul. No one knew about this, just the people who immediately attend Father. Their hope was that he would recover from his cough very quickly. Anyway, he was admitted to the hospital on that day.

14. The doctor did a number of tests. What was found in one part of the body, was that Father's lungs are different from a normal person's lungs – coal miner's lungs. And so the doctor said, "How is it that so many particles have entered into his lungs?" When Father was in Hungnam prison and he breathed in the ammonia. He was moving the materials there. When we told them about the Hungnam prison experience, he said, yes it is possible he was affected by that.

15. The lungs function is to provide oxygen to our bodies, and if there are a lot of particles there – what do you think? Can the oxygen go into the body easily or would it be difficult for the oxygen to go into the body. It would be more difficult than for a normal person for the oxygen to be absorbed, wouldn't it? So in that situation, the weakened lungs function, there was pneumonia and it made it difficult for Father.

16. When he first was admitted, three or four times a day he would breathe through an oxygen mask. The nurses would apply the mask to him so that he could breathe in better oxygen. And of course he was taking medicine as well and he was on an IV at that time. He was also being given nutrients and medicine through the IVs. At that time when he was in the hospital, this was when the Olympics were going on. We saw Father watching the Olympics, and he seemed to be weaker than usual. When he took our hands or when he walked it was more difficult for him to walk at that point.

17. In any case, he was there for 10 days. And you know how urgent he is. All our members know about Father, his character, he is always very urgent, he wants to go someplace. He gets angry if he wants to go someplace and he can't. In any case, he said it was like being in a prison. "I feel like I'm in a prison." He was scolding people around him. He needed to stay there until he was completely cured. But his character which is so incredible, even the doctor finally approved, and after 10 days Father returned to the Cheon Jeong Goon. He returned there after being in the hospital for 10 days.

18. But he made a promise to Mother that he would rest. He made that promise. He promised he would not go back and forth. And Mother made sure he promised that before she took him to Cheon Jeong Goon. And I remember that day. But as soon as he got into the car, he still had an IV in the car, but as soon as he got into the car he said, "Where is the helicopter? I want to go to Geomundo, As soon as he got into the car – and we said, "Father you can't take the helicopter now, you need to rest!"

19. And so he returned to the Cheon Jeong Goon. August 12 he returned. He rested for a while and then at 10 PM that evening he started coughing. He got up out of bed and he received a lot of revelations at that point. He did a special ceremony at that point. He did a ceremony covering north south east and west. He gave lots of words. It was important that he not speak because his lung function was very weak. And so he needed to stop talking but he kept speaking through the night. He rested a while longer and then got up in the morning.

20. It was difficult for him to walk normally so he was in the wheelchair, still connected to the IVs. He said go that way, go over there. And the people who were treating him, together with True Mother, took him into all the corners of the Cheon Jeong Goon, East, West, South, and North. He went outside and went to all the major points of Cheon Jeong Goon.

21. Not only is he 93 but he was in a very weakened state. He pushed himself far beyond his limits. Because he feels the urgent responsibility to save the world. And so he pushed himself way beyond his limits.

22. That day, I remember, even when he was lying down he was not comfortable, because it became more and more difficult for him to breathe when he was lying down. And so he could not lie down, he had to sit, because when he would lie down it put pressure on his lungs, and so he had to sit and breathe that way. But it was very uncomfortable for him. You could see that he was uncomfortable. That night Father could not sleep. And he continued, every 30 minutes, every hour, he would get up and try to change the way that he was lying down. Mother was seeing that. She told them "Father I don't think your body is very healthy." The next day Mother convinced him to go to the Cheong Shim hospital. Very quickly, very suddenly he went to the Cheong Shim hospital.

23. Our room is [close], but he went out even before we could join him. He went out very quickly to the Cheong Shim hospital. At that time he needed to breathe through the oxygen mask. When we got there the hospital and the nurses and doctors did their best to help him. But it became, we felt it was, becoming more and more difficult. The doctors felt it was becoming more and more difficult for them to care for him. And so that day when Kook Jin Nim returned from the United States we had a meeting at the Cheong Shim hospital. They were giving him oxygen saturation – this is a test to see whether oxygen, enough oxygen is getting into the blood. The doctors confirmed that the body was not absorbing oxygen as much as it should. Many people felt that Father would be comfortable at Cheong Shim hospital, but Mother said no we need to go to the Holy Mother hospital. They have an intensive care unit and so he needs to go there. She said, "if this gets any worse… We need to move him to Seoul." Mother made that decision.

24. In that situation, at that time Father was eating rice gruel, a very soft rice soup. But, because his lung function was weak and he could not breathe normally, the doctors were trying to feed him the rice gruel in order to give him more energy. But on the way to Seoul the gruel that he had eaten went down the wrong pipe. It went into the trachea. Because he had pneumonia and something went into his body quickly – this was a very dangerous situation. As soon as he arrived at the intensive care unit they immediately gave him artificial respiration with their hands.

25. Mother said, okay you should all go to Hanamdong. But as soon as we got there we got a call to quickly come back. When we arrived at the IC unit, Mother was waiting, and we waited for about an hour there. And the doctors said if Mother had made the decision to come to Seoul even a half-hour later – Father would have gone to spirit world that day, if that decision to come to Seoul had been made even a half-hour later. That's how serious it was.

26. But heaven protected him. And just at the right time he was moved to Seoul. We had a small opportunity then to stabilize Father's situation. The oxygen was not being absorbed as it should and so an oxygen tank was placed next to his bed. He was given an oxygen mask, but even that was not enough. He had less than 80% saturation of oxygen in his blood. In other words, more than 20% of his body was not able to absorb. And so it was a very dangerous situation. And if the oxygen mask was not enough they had to go to the next stage. The next stage was to pump his lungs with a machine – so as to move the lungs to the maximum extent. This is an artificial respirator.

27. Father used that artificial respirator – and so the oxygen saturation began to rise to a stable level. We were very encouraged by that. We were a little bit more encouraged. As you know our church, our older (elders) you have experienced something like this. When you go to the hospital and you are connected to a respirator, a tube is placed in, and something is put in to keep the mouth from closing. And so from the first day Father had a tube in his mouth and he could not speak. He was receiving medicine by IV. We feel a gagging instinct. When you have a tube in there think how uncomfortable it is. It is difficult for old people to endure this, and they are connected to a machine and breathing is not natural. The machine is forcing the breathing and so the neck and throat is very painful. And so the first day Father was allowed to sleep. He was given a medicine that put him to sleep so he would not feel the pain.

28. I saw how Father overcame all difficulties, whether it is a cold or anything else or any difficulties in our church. I felt that he would probably get out of bed in two days and call everyone together, "let's have Hoon Dok Hae!" That is what I expected. But people who are old, their health can deteriorate very quickly, very suddenly. As he was breathing through the respirator, through the machine, the doctor called True Mother and called us to the conference room and said to us, "he has now been on the machine for a day or two, and now the pneumonia bacteria is now in the bloodstream and went into the kidneys and now the kidneys are not able to function normally. Father is not able to create urine." In that situation the blood becomes acidic and it itself becomes a poison. And so they needed to have dialysis, put on a dialysis machine. I'm sure you know that when we do dialysis – a large tube has to be placed into the body. This is an operation which places it in the body. It takes out the urine so that other organs can recover.

29. So the approval was given for that. The signature was given and the doctor was told to do that. After doing that I went down to see Father after that. Now Father had a tube in his throat and his IVs for nutrients and for protein. He could not eat and so he was being given proteins through the IV, and food as well. Then they had to cut into his body again to place the dialysis tubes. And so, when we saw Father we were very concerned. For an older person even one dialysis operation is difficult.

30. The next day the machine had to force Father to breathe so the oxygen would get into his body. But the doctor told us, right now the machine is on maximum force and yet, even though the machine is working at maximum, still Father's saturation rate is falling. And so now there is only the final stage remaining. Modern medicine has only one more stage – and that would be to go into an artery in the leg and to take blood from there and then to put oxygen into the blood and then put the blood back into his body after it had been saturated with blood outside the body. And so they needed to put tubes in 2 arteries, to take the blood out of the body and to then saturate it with oxygen and then put the blood back into the body. And so there were more and more machines placed around Father. He could not move. Sometimes the patient tries to take off the tubes and so he was placed in a deep sleep and made so his body could not move.

31. And so the situation was getting worse. It was deteriorating very quickly. It was very shocking to us to see how quickly he was deteriorating. In any case, in that situation – now all members around the world are offering Jeon Sung and sweating and offering prayers for Father's quick recovery. 32. What I am very grateful for is that in this situation, Father, of all members around the world, everyone is concerned. Mother made a very wise decision to put out official statements, asking everyone to offer Jeon Sung and that Father is in the ICU. Let's all pray. Let's all offer Jeon Sung. That was the content of her statement.

33. Even when that memo was not going out, already the True Children were coming from all over the world to Korea. And Mother met them.

34. She would take [True Father] by the hand and she would also massage Father's feet and she would say to Father, "Father I love you. Father I love you. Please be strong. Please get up and slap me on the cheek! Get up fighting. Please get up. Please rise up!" Every day Mother would go down to the ICU. She went so often that the doctors said you need to let him alone. If Father becomes too excited, for a person of that age to be put in that situation, to become excited, it will become more difficult. If his heart rate rises – and so Mother's visits were reduced to twice a day by the doctors order.

35. But, what I was very grateful for – that the members acted very quickly to offer Jeon Sung, giving Chambumonim Eok Mansei. Many tweets and e-mails from members around the world. He is still in grave dangerous situation. He is still in ICU. He needs to remain there. The next week is really important. He needs to be there for at least a week.

36. Some people say, "Oh, he got up and ate some gruel." But they don't know what's going on. Father needs to remain in his sleep. He has tubes in his arteries. He has so many tubes in him that they can't put any more in. He is in that situation.

37. Two days ago Father was able to have a bowel movement. And then, now he is lying down and so his bowels need to move. Something is being put in through his nose. Two days ago the respirator was at the maximum and the machine to oxidative his blood. Now it is down to 50% and Father's oxidation rate is at 97, 98%. It means at that point he was receiving enough oxygen.

38. From the moment that people started offering Jeon Sung we saw that Father's infection was going down. We saw that the oxygen machine, the respirator could be reduced to 40% of maximum and he is still received enough oxygen at that level. Yesterday the True Family visited Father in the morning and again in the evening. But I'm really grateful to heaven, to see the work of heaven and to see that Father has improved a lot by the prayers being offered. We visited him last night. The respirator was reduced to 30% and Father was able to receive enough oxygen even at that level.

39. This morning we visited him with Mother and the situation is the same as last evening. Father continues to sleep. But there are still many machines attached to him, 13 various machines and lines attached to him. Still it is very serious. Of course if we see him improve a little but we feel hope. But a person at this age, the situation can change in a single moment. A little bit of bacteria goes in – and things can deteriorate very quickly. At least the next week is extremely important. That is the situation that Father is in now.

40. It is important for us to offer Jeon Sung. We should offer Jeon Sung shouldn't we?

I would like to give thanks to all of our brothers and sisters across the world. Many, many brothers and sisters from all countries, whether it's Brazil or Russia or any other country, are offering Jeong Seong and prayers -- an incredible amount of prayers for the sake of True Parents. And so today my words are not just addressed to the Cheon Bok Gung but to all members around the world. So let's give a round of applause to all members around the world.

Bodies Connected to the Providence

We need to remember that Father is not just a normal person. Father's body is not just a normal body. About 10 years ago in America, Father went through a very difficult situation with his health. I think many members already know about this, but at that time Father had to have heart surgery because water [blood] kept coming in. On the day that he went into the hospital, the Iraq war began. [Rev. Moon probably had heart valve surgery.]

[Hyung Jin Moon's emotion overcomes him.]

My older brother is telling me to take deep breaths.

True Parents' minds and bodies are always connected to the providence. If we look at the world today, there are many dangerous situations. In 2005, Father predicted the pan-Pacific age, and he said that particularly the island nations are in danger. He said that Russia and China may use their overwhelming strength to take over the island countries, that this kind of a time may come. Seven years ago he predicted this. And now we are witnessing that reality. We see that Chinese citizens landed on Senkaku Island, and the Japanese police took them into custody. That is a situation where there's a great possibility for conflict.

You have seen the statistics that Kook Jin Moon gives in his lecture "Strong Korea." Even now Korea and Japan are having conflict because of various issues, whether it's the Dokdo [Island] issue or other issues. Actually these free countries need to unite as one to stand up against the countries of communist dictatorships: They need to defend themselves against this challenge. This is a very important period in that sense. But instead we are fighting over a small island, and that's what the world is witnessing. The United States, economically now, is just standing by quietly.

In the Divine Principle words we see in Part II the prophecy about the third world war. Depending on the human portion of responsibility that war may be an actual war, or it may be a conflict of ideologies. But the Divine Principle says that a third world war must come, one way or another.

In this incredibly important time, Father, who is responsible to save the world, pushed himself way beyond his limits. He went back and forth between Korea and the United States. And as soon as he would arrive, he would have assemblies, and he would speak for three hours, four hours, and he would have Hoon Dok Hae for 13 hours, 14 hours, 15 hours. I've been attending True Parents for the last year and a half, and this is how it has been continuously.

Sun Myung Moon, Hak Ja Han, and Hyung Jin Moon – July 10, 2012

Sun Myung Moon, Hak Ja Han, and Hyung Jin Moon – July 10, 2012

It may be confusing, so I will make references according to the solar calendar. On July 16th, Father returned from Las Vegas to Korea. When he was still in the plane, he contacted Korea and told all the members to gather in the Cheongshim World Center. I'm sure you remember, and you all attended there. Then at that event he sweated as he spoke for three or four hours, giving us his words. And then the next morning he spoke again at Hoon Dok Hae. The workshop for the Original Divine Principle was going on at that time, so he received the participants in that workshop.

Lungs of a Coal Miner

Then from that time his health seemed to be a little bit strange. As I was attending Father for a year and a half, when Father would catch cold, or when he would have a slight fever, or when he would be feeling bad, I would see him recover many times, dozens of times. When it was difficult, then he would take a rest; after that, the next day, he would come to Hoon Dok Hae again and would be very active and animated. I saw that many times.

But this time Father continued to cough. He was coughing a lot. We did not think that it was such a serious thing. Who could have predicted it would have become like this? He was just coughing a little bit. But he continued to push himself, 10 hours' Hoon Dok Hae, meeting the Itinerary Workers for 13 hours and then at Geomundo Island. He would push himself beyond his limits constantly. He was so active that it was difficult for even a young person to keep up with him.

As he went on like that, the cough became more serious, and gradually the people around him started to become concerned. On August 2nd of the solar calendar, he visited the Osan School. Do you know the Osan School? In our history this is a middle- and a high school. He suddenly said he had to come to Seoul and visit the Osan School, which is located hear Hannamdong. That was a weekend, so there was no staff or teachers there. But he just sat there in the lobby, called all the leaders of our church, and told us to speak about the history of the Osan School. He had the leaders of our church report on that.

On that day, the cough was very serious. Every time he started speaking, he would start to cough and he couldn't begin speaking without also beginning to cough. People were saying, "Mother, I think that cough is becoming very serious." People were very concerned on that day. Then Father went to the Cheon Jeong Gung, and he continued to cough. And Mother said, "This is too serious. Let's go to the hospital." She said to Father, "Let's go to the hospital."

But you know about him! You know how his personality is, what an incredible personality he has. He doesn't listen to anyone. Mother continuously was saying, "Please, please, Father, let's go to the hospital; you need to go to the hospital." In any case on August 3rd, without anyone knowing, Father was admitted to the Holy Mother Hospital [Gangnam] in Seoul. No one knew about this, just the people who immediately attend Father. The hope was that he would be cured of his cough very quickly. [Soon Ae Hong – Dae Mo Nim – was treated at Holy Mother Hospital in September 1979.]

He was admitted to the hospital on that day, and the doctor did a number of tests. What was found in one part of the body was that Father's lungs are different from a normal person's lungs. Coal miner's lungs [Emphysema]. The doctor asked, "How is it that so many particles have entered into his lungs?" The explanation was that when Father was in Hungnam Prison, he breathed in ammonia as he was moving the materials [burlap bags of ammonium sulfate fertilizer] there. When we told the doctor about the Hungnam Prison experience, the doctor said, yes, that's possible that he was affected by that.

But as you know, the lungs' function is to provide oxygen to our bodies. If there are a lot of particles in the lungs, then what do you think? Can oxygen go to the body easily, or would it be difficult for oxygen to get into the body? It would be more difficult than a normal person for the oxygen to be absorbed. So in that situation, when the lungs' function was weakened, there was pneumonia, which made it difficult for Father.

When he first was admitted, three or four times a day he would breathe through an oxygen mask. The nurses would apply the mask to him so that he could breathe in better oxygen. Of course, he was taking medicine as well, and he was on an IV at that time; he was also being given nutrients and medicine through the IV.

At that time when he was in the hospital, the Olympics were going on. We watched Father and saw him watching the Olympics, and we thought he seemed weaker than usual. When he would take our hands and walk, it was more difficult for him to walk at that point.

In any case, he was there for 10 days. You know how urgent he is: All our members know about Father. His character is always very urgent. He wants to go someplace. He gets angry if he wants to go someplace and he can't. In any case, he said, "It's like being in a prison here. I feel like I'm in a prison." He was scolding people around him, "I feel like I'm in a prison." He needed to stay there until he was completely cured, but his character is so incredible. Even the doctor finally approved, and after 10 days Father returned to the Cheon Jeong Gung.

Pushing Beyond Physical Limits

But he promised Mother that he would rest. He made that promise, that he would not go back and forth, and Mother made sure that he promised that before she took him to the Cheon Jeong Gung. I remember that day. But as soon as he got into the car -- he was still connected to his IVs -- he said, "Where's the helicopter? I want to go to Geomundo." The moment that he got into the car!

We said to him, "Father, you can't take the helicopter now. You need to rest." So he returned to the Cheon Jeong Gung on August 12th and he rested for a while. Then at 10:00 p.m. that evening, he started coughing. He got out of bed and received a lot of revelations at that point. He did a special ceremony then, covering North, South, East, and West. He spoke a lot of words. It was important that he not speak because his lung function was very weak, so he needed to stop talking, but he kept speaking through the night.

He rested a little while, and then he got up in the morning. It was difficult for him to walk normally, so he was in a wheelchair, still connected to the IVs. He said, "Go over there." The people attending him together with True Mother took him to all the corners of the Cheon Jeong Gung, to the east, west, south, and north. He went outside the Cheon Jeong Gung, to all the major points of the Cheon Jeong Gung. Not only a person who is 93 but also a person in a very weakened state, he did this for hours and hours; he pushed himself far beyond his limits. He feels the urgent responsibility to save the world.

A Man Protected by Heaven

I remember that day that even when he was lying down, he was not comfortable because it became more and more difficult for him to breathe. He could not lie down normally. He had to sit because when he would lie down, it would put pressure on his lungs. So he would prefer to sit, to breathe that way. But it was very uncomfortable for him. You could see that he was uncomfortable.

Cheongshim Hospital

Cheongshim Hospital

That night Father could not sleep. Every 30 minutes or hour, he would get up and try to change the way he was lying down. Mother would see that, and she said, "Father, I don't think your body is very healthy." In any case, we did our best, and Mother convinced him to go to the Cheongshim Hospital. Very suddenly he went to the Cheongshim Hospital. He went out even before we could join him.

At that time there was an oxygen tank, and he needed to breathe through the oxygen mask. When we got there, the doctors and nurses were doing their best to help him, but it was becoming more and more difficult. The doctors felt that it was more and more difficult for them to care for him. So that day when Kook Jin Moon returned from the United States, we had a meeting at the Cheongshim Hospital. They were giving him an oxygen saturation test to see whether enough oxygen is getting into the blood. The doctors confirmed that the body was not absorbing oxygen as much as it should.

Many people felt that Father would be comfortable at Cheongshim, but Mother said "No, we need to go to the Holy Mother Hospital. They have an intensive care unit, so he needs to go there. If this gets any worse, then we need to move him to Seoul." Mother made that decision. In that situation Father was very weakened, and at that time he was eating rice gruel, very soft rice soup. Because his lung function was weak and he could not breathe normally, doctors were trying to feed him the rice gruel in order to give him more energy. But on the way to Seoul the gruel that he had eaten went down the wrong pipe, and it went into the trachea. Because he had pneumonia, this was a very dangerous situation. As soon as he arrived at the intensive care unit, they immediately gave him artificial respiration with their hands.

Then Mother said, "You should all go to Hannamdong because Father is going to be here." But as soon as we arrived at Hannamdong, we got a call saying, "Quickly come back." So we returned to the hospital very quickly from Hannamdong. We arrived in the ICU; Mother was waiting, and we waited for about an hour there. Then the doctors said that if Mother had made that decision to come to Seoul even half an hour later, then Father would have gone to spirit world that day. That is how serious it was. But Heaven protected him, and just at the right time he was moved to Seoul.

Stabilizing Oxygen Saturation

We had a small opportunity then to stabilize Father's situation. Oxygen was not being absorbed as it should, so an oxygen tank was placed next to his bed, and he was given an oxygen mask. But even that was not enough. He had less than 80 percent saturation of oxygen in his blood. In other words, more than 20 percent of oxygen was not being absorbed by the body, so it was a very dangerous situation. The oxygen mask was not enough, so they had to go to the next stage.

The next stage was to pump Father's lungs with a machine to move the lungs to their maximum extent. This is an artificial respirator. So Father used an artificial respirator, and the oxygen saturation began to rise to a stable level. So we were a little bit encouraged by that. [Father had to be intubated to use the resperator – a tube was put in his mouth and down his throat to get air into his lungs. The intubation tube makes it impossible to talk.]

I'm sure our older members have experienced something like this: When you go to the hospital and you are connected to a respirator, you know that a tube is inserted and a device is placed to keep the mouth from closing. That is what Father needed from the first day. He had a tube in his mouth, and he could not speak because he needed to recover. Of course he was receiving medicine by IV.

We feel a gagging reflex when something goes down our throat, so when you have a tube in there, think how uncomfortable it is. It's difficult for old people to endure this. When they are connected to a machine, the breathing is not natural because the machine is forcing the breathing. The throat is very painful. So from the first day Father was given medicine [anesthesia] to put him to sleep so he would not feel the pain.

Undergoing Additional Operations

I have seen how Father has overcome all difficulties, whether it's a cold or anything in our church, so I felt that he would probably get out of bed in two days and say, "Everyone, gather together and have Hoon Dok Hae." This is what I expected. But for people who are old, I could see that their health can deteriorate very suddenly. As Father went to the second stage and was breathing through the respirator, the doctor called True Mother and us to the conference room and said to us, "He's been on the machine for a day or two. Now the pneumonia bacteria is in the bloodstream and has gotten into the kidneys. Now the kidneys are not able to function normally [renal failure]. He is not able to create urine, so in that situation the blood itself becomes acidic and itself becomes a poison." So Father needed to be put on a dialysis machine.

I'm sure you know that when dialysis is done, a large tube has to be placed into the body, which requires an operation, and then it takes out the urine so that other organs can recover. Approval and a signature were given for that, and the doctor was told to quickly do that. We went to see Father after that. Now Father had a tube in his throat, and he had IVs in his body for nutrients. He could not eat, so he was being given nutrition and fluid through the IV. Then they had to cut into his body again to place the dialysis tubes. So when we saw Father, we were very concerned. For an older person, even one dialysis operation is difficult.

The respirator had to force Father to breathe so enough oxygen would get into his body. But the next day, the doctor then told us that even though the machine was using maximum force, Father's oxygen saturation rate was still falling. He said that there was a final stage remaining. Modern medicine only allows for one more stage, and that would be to go into an artery in the leg, take blood from there, put oxygen into the blood, and then put the blood back into the body. Tubes needed to be placed in two arteries, one to take blood out of the body and saturate it with oxygen outside the body, and then another to put the blood back into the body. So more and more machines were placed around Father. He could not move. Sometimes the patient tries to take out the tubes, so he was placed in a deep sleep, and his body was made so it would not move. The situation kept getting worse like this, and he was deteriorating very quickly. It was shocking to us to see how quickly he was deteriorating.

Receiving Jeong Seong from Members Worldwide

In any case, in that situation by now all members around the world were offering Jeong Seong and offering prayers for Father's quick recovery. What I'm very grateful for is that in this situation all members around the world are concerned. Mother made a very wise decision to put out official statements so everyone could offer Jeong Seong when Father was in the ICU: "Let's all pray and offer Jeong Seong." This was the content of the first statement.

Even when that memo was going out, already the True Children were coming to Korea from around the world. Mother met them, and, of course, she would take them by the hand.

She would also massage Father's feet and say to Father, "Father, I love you. Father, I love you. Please be strong. Please get up and slap me on the cheek. Please get up fighting. Please rise up." Every day Mother would go down to the ICU. She went so often that the doctor said, "Now you need to let him alone. If he becomes too excited, then for a person of that age in that situation to become excited, it would be more difficult if his heart rate rises." Mother's visits were reduced to twice a day by the doctor's order.

What I was very grateful for is that the members acted very quickly to offer Jeong Seong and gave the "Chambumonim, eog mansei." We received many tweets and e-mails from members around the world.

Of course, still Father is in a very dangerous situation. He's still in the ICU. He needs to remain there. The next week is really very important. He needs to be there for at least a week. Some people say, "Oh, he got up and ate some gruel," but they don't know what's going on. Father needs to remain in his sleep. He has tubes in his arteries; really, he has so many tubes in him that you cannot put any more into him. He's in that kind of situation.

Two days ago Father was able to have a bowel movement. Now he's lying down, and so his bowels need to move.

Something is being put in through his nose. Just two days ago the respirator was at the maximum, of course, as well as the machine to oxygenate the blood before putting it back in, and now it is down to 50 percent. Now Father's oxygenation rate is at 97, 98 percent. That means that he is receiving enough oxygen.

From the moment that people started offering Jeong Seong, we were very encouraged. We saw that Father's infection was going down, that the swelling was going down. We saw that the respirator could be reduced to 40 percent of maximum, and he could still receive enough oxygen, even at that level.

Yesterday the True Family visited Father in the morning and again in the evening. We're really very grateful to see the work of Heaven, to see that Father has really improved a lot from the prayers being offered. We visited him last evening. The respirator was reduced to 30 percent, and Father was able to receive enough oxygen even at that level.

Now this morning Yeon Ah Moon and others visited him with Mother, and the situation is the same this morning as last evening. Father continues to sleep. There are still about 13 various machines attached to him. It's still very serious. Of course if we see him improve a little bit, we feel hope, but for a person of this age, the situation can change in a single moment. If a little bacteria goes in, things can deteriorate very quickly.

At least the next week is extremely important. That is the situation Father is in now. It is important for us to offer Jeong Seong. We should offer Jeong Seong, shouldn't we?

Grappling With Reality

Excerpts
Chung Pyung Heaven and Earth Training Center

Excerpts from an almost four-hour speech that was given to participants of the ten-day special education for blessed families worldwide, held at True Father's request and in support of the inauguration of the Abel Women UN.

I was talking to one of my coaches the other day. He's not a member; he's a UFC fighter. After practice, He asked me, "So, what does the Unification Church actually believe?" I explained to him, "We believe Rev. Moon is the Messiah. He's the Lord at the Second Advent. He's brought a teaching that is radically different." I told him, "In the Unification Church, we are fighters for freedom and fighters for change.... My Father is a fighter. He fought against the Japanese when they were colonizing Korea. He risked his life...."

I told him, "Father Moon's vision for peace is not idealistic. He's never said, "Good people, be weak!" Good people have to be strong, so that if evil people want to harm other people, those good people can step in. We seemed to want to brush aside how strong Father is, how much of a fighter he is. I realize that I did that too.

On Training for Real Situations

Once when I did a demonstration, Father said, "All the young people should learn MMA, too." So, actually, in Korea, our CARP kids and in Brazil, our CARP kids are already learning jujitsu; they are already training in MMA. In Korea, in this year's program, they will begin training in jujitsu -- in real martial arts that you can use against bigger opponents.

You can defend yourself when you're witnessing. If you're a woman, you can defend yourself against a man. What if nobody comes to your aid? It can actually be a tool that saves a person's life, right? Mentally it makes you aware of the reality that some people may want to hurt you and you may have to defend yourself. If you always avoid this reality, you are not prepared if something happens.

You know, I love flowers, and I did practice flower arranging, and the tea ceremony and meditation -- all that. I love those arts, but I also love real hard fight training. When I was doing ministry, I wouldn't tell people that I was studying this or why I love it. I wouldn't tell my ministers, "Hey, moksa nims we are going to watch fighting today." [Laughter] I was privately watching the UFC. I was worried about how society would look upon it. "You know Rev Moon's son -- he is also a reverend -- he likes cage fighting! We thought he liked flower arranging." Yes, I do like gardening. But I also do love cage fighting. I realized that I was somehow ashamed of that and trying to hide it.

Picking up this kind of training is so taxing in your thirties. This is something you do in your teens. I recommend having your kids study MMA when they are five years old. Start them young. They should learn martial arts young -- very young. Girls, too, absolutely, should learn martial arts. Study young -- the younger the better -- because there is so much to learn.

The difference between this type of martial art and other types of traditional martial arts is that many traditional martial arts have become very theoretical. Once I started training again in the mixed martial arts, I also found myself becoming less interested in the theoretical arts and rediscovering a kind of realism which is very real in MMA. You are only going to use what is effective. It has to be useful in real combat.

I realized that the timing is so interesting, too. Because Father said to me, just recently, "You know, you are now thirty- three." I'm turning thirty-three by American age. He said, "Jesus died on the cross when he was your age. You have to be ready to be crucified." I realized... "Yes, Father." I have to be ready for serious training....

The returning messiah brings the sword of judgment. What would my Harvard professor think if he saw this sermon, with me talking about MMA and cage fighting?

"Oh Mr. Moon, you've certainly digressed." [Laughter] There is this kind of fear over what my teachers would think, what my peers would think.

I realized I had been very interested in pleasing the social norm. I realized... Am I trying to shape my life to please these people? What purpose does that have in eternity? Zero. It means nothing. If we believe True Parents are the Lord at the Second Advent, and the Messiah, you have to have a different priority, right?

I realized, on some level, that I had been ashamed of True Father. Because he is so opposite of what these people want a religious leader to be. He is so opposite. They want a soft-spoken, behave nicely, finish speaking within twenty minutes... [Laughter] They want something that they can accept. "Yes, give me a Messiah that fits my needs!"

Being with Father for a year and a half, I realized very quickly. No, he is not like that. He is not like the Dalai Lama. I've met the Dalai Lama. And of course as someone who meditates and who has tremendous insight into human psychology and how the mind works, I respect him. When I met him, it was a great joy for me. I was studying Buddhism at the time, comparing it with Christianity and meditative traditions.

It was a huge honor for me. You know, I lived with Tibetan monks for a year and a half or so. Yes, the Dalai Lama is wonderful, so soft spoken.

But being with Father, you very quickly realize, Father's not the Dalai Lama. I realized I had actually been ashamed of how eccentric and strong Father is. In my own mind, because it was much more digestible, I almost wanted to think that Father was like the Dalai Lama. And, you know, that would be much easier to present to the world. But I quickly realized that no, the Messiah is not the Dalai Lama. The Messiah is totally different.

When Christ, even in the Christian tradition, is to return, he doesn't return with the same love ethic that Jesus taught when he was here the first time. We all know the scriptures that say, when somebody strikes you, turn the other cheek. Jesus taught this kind of radical love ethic.

In the Christian tradition, Christ is to return; and the vision of his return is in the Book of Revelation. When he does return, he is not a nice guy. When Christ returns, he is not coming to be struck and to turn the other cheek. When Christ returns, he comes as the judge. He comes hard. He comes strong. He descends from heaven and he judges. This is within the Christian tradition. Most Christians don't want to pay attention to that. Right? But, actually, it was prophesied within the Christian tradition. When Christ returns, he is not the painted image of Christ -- floating along, always gentle, practicing Tai Chi. [Laughter] He's going to send you to hell -- that's judgment. That's prophesied within the Christian tradition. This is a very different Christ, right?

However, even if we are from the Christian tradition and we became members -- when we see Father, what happens? We end up judging him by the love ethic of the time of Jesus.

"Why is he yelling? Why is he so hard on True Mother today?" We will ask this even in our own hearts, but we have to remember this is the Lord. He is not here to make us feel good. He is here to bring the sword, to bring the scathing truth. This was very hard for me to digest.

On July 17, Father visited the workshop participants and held Hoon Dok Hae at the Chung Pyung training center; thereafter, True Parents invited small groups from among the 1,168 participants to attend Hoon Dok Hae at Cheon Jeong Gung each morning.

Standing Up and Fighting Against Evil

Most religions say, "We have to practice turning the other cheek and we have to practice disarmament." I know, for example, the Dalai Lama advocates the disarmament of nations. But if you promote disarmament, who's going to listen to that? The good nations, right? Democratic nations maybe will do it. But will the dictatorships listen to you about disarmament? Are they going to keep their promises? No. So what happens? The Abel-type nations, which are democratic countries, disarm. And then what happens? The Cain-type countries that don't listen to you have more weapons and greater means to conquer other countries. Then, what will happen?

This is why Father's Abel UN is different from the "Cain UN," because the Cain UN strongly promotes, as you know and may have experienced, disarmament.... The UN also promotes gay marriage, and alternative families. The UN has Family Day, and they teach different types of families. Of course, we know this is directly contradicting the four-position foundation, right? So what about the Abel UN?... How is that different? Is that just meant to be a copy of the Cain UN? Or is it actually totally different? Is it saying that Abel nations must be strong? Good, democratic nations and good people must be strong, because if they are bad, Cain-type people come, and they want to kill a lot of people. It's the Abel realm that has to stand up and fight.

[In response to an interjection from a woman in the audience:] In Wolli Wonbon Father talks about the Jesus ethic. Jesus says, if your enemy strikes you, give him your other cheek. Right? Maybe, as a woman, you feel that's good. But you know then you are actually against Father's teaching.

Father says in Wolli Wonbon, that when Jesus taught to turn the other cheek, it was the time when God was sowing the seeds of love. But when the Lord returns at his second coming, he will harvest the fruit. So, the ethic of turning the other cheek does not apply when the Lord returns.

Father wrote Wolli Wonbon in his own hand. He says, When the Cain realm strikes you, you have to strike back, and bring them into the dominion of God.

That is totally different. So, let's say, for example, we apply that to World War II. Let's say America used the ethic maybe you were unknowingly supporting, and said, "Okay, let's just be motherly. We don't want our children to die. We shouldn't use violence. Maybe we can have dialogue with Hitler." If [on that basis] America had not gone to fight, you would have a different world, and you would not have the foundation for the Messiah to begin his ministry.

[In response to the woman:] No, no, you're not taking time. What you are asking is very good. Let's give her a round of applause, everybody. [Applause] But do you see what I mean? You see, my whole point is, Father is radically different from what we think or what we want him to be....

I had been brainwashed by liberal media and also I went to super-liberal schools. I realized that. But when we were young, the True Family was always training with guns. We were training. You know, our brothers all did gun training. They all did all this kind of thing, and somehow, when I was going to school, I began thinking that this was crazy. You know, we're a religion, and we're out here shooting with these guns, right? And probably some of you members thought, "Man, those True Kids are crazy, they love those guns." But when I went to liberal institutions, they frowned upon it -- Guns are the problem. And of course, in the media you hear that all the time, all the time. We've been told that information by the Archangel. It's not actually true.

Do you understand how important it is that as a church we have this discussion? We could never even talk about these issues, any of these political issues; we were either left or right, but we could never look at them from the viewpoint of the Principle. Now, from a Principle-perspective, if you allow people to have freedom, to protect themselves, and they're able to do that, what is the result in society? Then, you look at the evidence, and you see that it prevents bullies from attacking....

Jeong-ok Yu's Original Substance of Divine Principle series and WFWP international president Mrs. Lan-young Moon's explanation of founding of the Abel Women UN.

Analyzing Society from the Standpoint of the Principle

It should not be, "Oh, no, I've always been told weapons are bad," or "I've always been told defense is bad." You have to watch out for the emotional reaction. You have to analyze with the intellect.... This is the first time in our movement that we can actually look at these issues through the lens of the Principle. [To the same audience member:] This is why I find it so exciting, Sister. I find it so exciting, because for the first time we can actually look at reality with our teaching and see how it that works. How would that work with free market economics? How would that work with political, with geopolitical situations, which include defense, right? How would that work with social issues?...

Kook Jin hyung is making a larger analysis of the world. Basically he is showing how free societies, democracies, collapse into tyrannies. You can see how close to freedom they are or how close they are to tyranny based on the relationship between government and its citizens -- the relationship of the Archangel to Adam and Eve. We can actually finally use the Principle to analyze issues socially. We can use the Principle to see political situations; what kind of policies would be enacted. Is it better to say we can't trust people and create all kinds of rules and regulations? What kind of society does that create? What are the consequences of that? So there are, for example, writers that he suggests people read, such as John Stossel, Friedrich von Hayek and Milton Friedman -- people who have been thinking along totally different lines from most others.

People Can Take Responsibility to Manage Society

I was having a discussion with Tom Walsh, the international president of UPF just yesterday. He asked Kook Jin nim, "What about the vices of the community, Kook Jin nim? What would happen if people were given freedom? Let's take drugs for example. Or prostitution? Surely that should be outlawed?"

Kook Jin nim answered very simply. He said, "Do what God did. Teach them that it is evil. Teach them that prostitution is degrading. Teach them the reality about the issue. In the end, God let [Adam and Eve] be responsible for their actions."

For example, America has been waging war on drugs for thirty years. They are investing billions to fight the war on drugs. The idea is to get the professional drug dealers. No more drugs. And we will reduce crime. John Stossel did an excellent program on this. It shows that actually the opposite happens. Tons of money is being invested into fighting drugs, but there is no reduction in drug abuse and drug crimes have skyrocketed.

What happens in a social system when you forbid something? For example, America banned drinking and punished people, putting them into prison. What happened when America banned drinking? Al Capone appeared. What happens socially? You outlaw the vice. CVS' can't sell wine. So, nobody can sell it, but Al Capone can produce it and sell it to you for $1,000. He gets rich. The criminals get rich and have to protect their money so they create their own mafia. That is what happens. Prohibition creates a black market.

The government limits your freedom of choice but this creates a black market. This gives back your choice at a hugely inflated price and criminals become rich. When they become rich that attracts kids and then there is violence. This is the result of prohibition.

When they decriminalize alcohol in America, CVS then sells wine for about $20 a bottle, whereas Al Capone is selling it for $1,000. Who are you going to buy it from? From CVS, right? That puts Al Capone out of business, doesn't it?

Take the example of war on drugs. John Stossel has an excellent program on this that shows that you create a black market. Experts appear, claiming that if drugs are legalized, teenage drug usage will just skyrocket; that you will have social anarchy and all kinds of addicts on the street.

But Portugal has decriminalized drugs. Stossel took his team of reporters to Portugal and spoke to the police department. You can see the interviews where they explain that they have legalized drugs like heroin and cocaine. They have stores similar to CVS where you can buy heroin and cocaine. Drug abuse should have skyrocketed because it is now legal, right? But it didn't increase at all. Those who were addicted before are still addicted, but you know, people don't want to die. Drug abuse didn't increase. What about drug related crime? The Police Department claims that it doesn't exist. Just as with Al Capone, it is gone. It is out of business. I'm not making this up. You can watch his program....

God's Gift of Free Will and Responsibility

Do you know what God gave Adam and Eve? He gave them free will. But he gave them the freedom to choose to live or to die and they would have to live with the consequences. Do you know what that means? Responsibility. Freedom and responsibility. God gave freedom and responsibility to Adam and Eve. I know we say that true love is the most important thing, but what do we know about true love? Can true love exist if God's object partner doesn't freely choose to love God back? Can love exist, from a Principle perspective? Can love exist? It can't exist. Even free love cannot exist without the prerequisite of freedom. Free choice and responsibility are so important to God.

One sister told me that she was hoping for the world as the kingdom of heaven, with all the blessed families having repopulated the world as a world with no sin. [Laughter] You should be laughing. You should be laughing, because even we have sin, now. Right? She said to me, I was kind of hoping that that would be the kingdom. I mean, isn't there going to be a world without sin? I said, Sister, in the Principle, what did God give to Adam and Eve? He gave them free will. There's a danger with free will, if you want to say it that way. On the one hand, Adam and Eve can choose to love God. On the one hand, they can create free love. With free will, you actually have the possibility that true love can exist. The downside -- let's say the risk of giving Adam and Eve free will, is that they might sin. They might choose death over life. There is that risk.

God could have played it safe. He could have made Adam and Eve without free will. He could have had little creatures, wagging their tails with puppy dog eyes and everything. But God didn't choose that. He chose to give them freedom. He took the risk. Did He trust, did He believe in human beings, or did He not believe in human beings?

He actually believed in Adam and Eve. He had his heart broken, that's true. But He actually believed in Adam and Eve....

God Would Rather Suffer than Take Away Our Free Will

It's amazing that we had not grasped this, but the Principle is fundamentally showing us a God who is not only a God of love, but a God that chooses to suffer and be tortured rather than take away human freedom. Throughout all of providential history God could have said, "I'm going to take away their freedom. They're messing it all up, and I don't trust them anymore. They're going to be robots from now on." God fought for your freedom. God fought throughout providential history to preserve the free will of human beings. Did you ever see the Principle in that light? If you actually think about it, it is true. He chose to suffer rather than take away our free will, because He knows that if He did that, we would never be able to freely choose to love Him.

The Unification Church Would Create the Freedom Society

I heard many leaders talking about theocracy, interpreting Father's words, implying we would make a theocracy. Well, the Taliban is a theocracy. Look at some of the examples of theocracies in history. Is that something inspiring? Not to me. Do I want to be part of building that? I don't know; I don't think so. Theocracies have always been oppressive, dominating their citizens....

If you understand the implications of what Kook Jin hyung is talking about in his talks on the Freedom Society and Strong Abel, what you will quickly realize is that if the Unification Church ever had national sovereignty, we would not create a theocracy. We would not create a dictatorship. We would create a free society that is also pursuing responsibility....

Protecting Freedom, Changing the World

The True Children have to live for the glory of True Parents. When that happens, when that four-position foundation happens, and those relationships are working and they are moving, and that is rotating, God can be present. He can inspire a totally new vision for the world, a vision where we don't create tyranny, a vision where the Unification Church protects freedom for all the generations to come. [Applause]....

That is why there is only one king of kings, the True Parents of Heaven and Earth. [Applause] Only one king! And that king reveals to us God's gift to humanity -- free will and responsibility. He gave us freedom. We have to protect it. We can't let tyrants take it away. We can't let anybody take that responsibility and freedom away. If we protect that, we can protect nations from falling into tyranny. Seriously, you have to think about the implications of this. We can protect generations from falling into the hands of tyrants, which is the pattern of history. And which movement, which religion is doing that? Only one -- it's the Unification Church. [Applause]

Father was writing in Wolli Won Bon in 1951 about the free and ideal world. In 1951! He truly is the parent of the free world. He was dreaming this, that the whole world could experience the freedom -- not just the freedom to do what you want -- but the freedom and the responsibility that comes with that. It's with freedom that we can actually search for God.

I am so excited about this, because finally I can see a social and political vision that can change the world in seven years, and Godspeed, we can bring the kingdom of heaven before True Father is one hundred years old! [Applause] The free and ideal world -- not dictatorships, not tyrannies, not monarchies but the free and ideal world. We can show that True Parents' teachings reveal to the world that God has protected our freedom, and that we also must protect our children's and grandchildren's freedom. That it is in the spirit of God, to trust one another, to believe in family, to believe in faith, to believe that we can change the world.

I believe it. Praise God! Thank you, everybody for this time. [Applause] I'm ready. Are you ready? Ready to change the world!
