Concluding Remarks at the Fourth Directors' Conference

Now, as you heard, you have come for a three day conference -- you are participating in conference training -- and you have heard what scores you made on the exam. Maybe this chance or opportunity will become an historical event for you -- maybe you came in last or first. Either way, it might be very meaningful to you. The "last" does not necessarily mean you have to stop it -- you have to continue, of course. From now on, he is not going to initiate any more for a period of time -- training sessions. He thinks better of it. Those of you who failed -- below 70 points -- will be given another chance to improve your score. But he will no longer enforce this kind of regular testing system. By now, through the constant emphasis or enforcement of this testing system, you have been shown what our True Parents, our Master, our church expect of you -- in which direction you should go. By now, you must know that. He has decided that, from now on you Mobile Unit Commanders, State Representatives and Center Directors should enforce the same system you have learned here, administer the tests to your members, and report to Belvedere -- describing, just as I have announced to you, the scores of your students and members. Seventy points or above will be the passing score. He wants many, many people to pass this test, with 70 or above -- his expectation is such. He will no longer. enforce a general test like this, but he will give special training to those who have passed with 70 or above, so that Belvedere will receive the best members -- best qualified, students, from now on. As of now, he has decided.

You do this -- enforce this -- all examinations, styles and ways of doing all this -- you have to report to Kim, Director of the International Training Program at Belvedere. You have to report to Belvedere three times the results of the test. There is no doubt -- if you have many students and members who have passed, with 70 or above, you are in good shape -- he will regard you as a good leader -- you are above average. We will keep statistics on a national level: which Commanders, which State Representatives have how many members with a passing grade of 70; it will count when you evaluate your people. This way we can manufacture or produce what he spoke of yesterday to the conference -- the nucleus -- our church leaders will be counted. So, by doing so, a uniform standard for this program will be enforced throughout the world. Through this means, we will evaluate the quality of our members; we will also horizontally influence society. You will become like a school principal to your members, to your family -- and the commander of your mobile units, of your churches.

If we enforce in every state things similar to what we are doing here in Belvedere -- this is what we are driving at: some kind of an educational institution -- elementary school, high school, even on a college level. Do you agree with him? [Yes!] So, with this kind of background, he will set up a worldwide level educational system in which even young people outside of our church can benefit. So, he has already located somebody to create a worldwide training/educational system; he has already given instructions about the administrative area. Naturally, we will influence the family system, the church system, the social system -- even on a national level. This is one of his strategies. So, by the time that happens, you will be more than any senator in your state. You don't have to be envious of any individual, no matter how high his social status. So, we are looking for very highly educated intellectuals -- we are going to achieve this -- we are going to educate.

This is a wonderful movement. Even though it looks like only a small stream of work here right now -- it will become a stream added to a river, a river added to an ocean, an ocean added to the whole five oceans and six continents. So, this is a great thing. Also, we know, we believe, it will happen. Do you? [Yes!] Shall we join together? [Yes!] So, you will learn how you scored, how you placed in the examination; also, how to score them, how to guide them, how to teach them. You have to learn it. Everybody should be above 70 points. So, everybody who participates will think, "We will have to pass -- 70 points or above." So, in all countries, even leaders on the suburban or county level -- Unification Church centers we don't have yet -- will study the Divine Principle textbook in order to pass. Everyone will want to eventually pass the Belvedere exam. So, suddenly the rumor spreads: the Unification Church young people are really studying hard, not only the Divine Principle -- but all means of survival. So, we shall have a hopeful desire. So, he wants you to study hard, to reach this stage; this, more than anything else, will make him happy. Can you do that? [Yes!] Chapter 1, Scene 1, the revelation is God's.

The next scene: He said, no more of this three day training -- and all the difficult questions, and then what you are going to do the next time you come up here? Now, we will enforce something for those who have obtained a very high grade -- we will be engaging in a Principle lecture contest for two days. More than lectures will be given. Standardized, uniform lectures -- the best lecturer will be picked up through this kind of training. Then these selected, best lecturers will be recognized by him as the official lecturers on the international level. So, you are teaching every day; your profession is teaching the Divine Principle anyway, morning and night, morning, afternoon and evening. So, whenever those who have obtained a score -- our Master will designate (you don't have to worry about it, he doesn't have to worry about how to lecture) -- whenever you are designated to come, come out here -- and you have to lecture. So, given any topic, any chapter, you have to know how to lecture it in front of us. Is this feeling good or bad? [Good!] Scared? [No!] You will be shaken out. So, we want you to be brave men, brave generals, to save this nation and all mankind. This must be the purpose behind, you. By doing so, those who pass this -- the man, or woman who pass that test, that contest -- will be regarded as having passed the grade, one of the three judgments of truth. In other words, he or she passed judgment of the Divine Principle. You will be labeled -- wherever you go, in heaven, and earth, you will be regarded as having passed the judgment.

This means you have to give a lecture just like what we are teaching here, up to the same standard. A united, standardized form of the lecture will be realized by doing so. So you have to study hard -- learn how to lecture on the international level. So, this means you have to study hard. Even if 50 commanders lecture -- the style of 50 commanders varies -- so you have to collect it, you have to learn it, you have to learn the benefits of their approaches -- their styles or their contents. This is a very blessed , chance for you, too, to. be trained in this way. What, a blessing you will receive by participating in this epoch making, historical event. So, this means you have to teach or lecture as many times as possible in your state, in your city, in your territory. That is why he said we have to teach so many times -- morning, noon, afternoon and evening. This category of people who have passed -- those are standardized from the next conference. So, when you listen to what he says, then you have another worry, another thing, coming out; you thought everything was finished, but after passing, you have another worry coming out. You should know that the spirit world goes beyond time and geographical barriers, beyond the boundary. But you have only so much limited territory; you cannot even hear or in any way observe what's going on in the state of Florida -- the Commander lectures, you don't know what they are doing; however, in spirit world there is no need to worry about it. At any time they can see -- just like you see between you and us. Even if you don't know who is the best one, well, the spirit world knows who is the best one, second best, third best -- the best lecturers. So, you will become very well known. So, some confusion might happen -- the spirit world knows everything, while you know nothing about it. So, some confusion between the two worlds might happen, because you are so ignorant of it.

The reason why he does this, he has a relative position -- subject-object -- even the spirit world knows -- you have to physically pick up these kinds of best ones, have to announce it. So, they coincide, the spirit world and here; so he wants to officially recognize the best lecturers, those who are passing this standard. So, this is why they are working for you people to be passing that contest -- because he has given you an equal opportunity, everybody. Anybody can pass it -- even if a girl is not so beautiful, or a boy so handsome, an ugly face doesn't matter -- you have an equal opportunity to be the best lecturer. Whether you succeed or not, that is your 5%. So, there will be no room for complaint in this system. Do you understand so far? [Yes!]

Because of this, many young people will practice in the forest, facing the trees -- lecture practice. They will go to the seaside and lecture to the moving waves of the ocean, and sometimes everywhere else. This shall happen, this wonderful scene shall appear. Nationally, this will happen. It will also happen internationally. Then, public opinion will be: "All Unification Church leaders are becoming wonderful, eloquent speakers, orators." Then, when election time comes, they will be looking for you people, because you speak so beautifully and dynamically. Do you understand, so far, why we have to do these kinds of things? You have to do that so that those who have spirituality will listen. So, you have to prepare yourselves -- for the time will come when you will be needed, needed very badly, needed very, very urgently; that is why he is giving you a preparation period. Do you understand him? [Yes!] So, second scene of revelation is passed.

Those who have passed this kind of Belvedere lecture training test will be the leaders. Also, he will be teaching -- day and night -- Victory Over Communism lectures. Now, the same thing applies, as on the Divine Principle level, to the Victory Over Communism ideology. The same thing will happen: you will be trained in the three day conference; you will have to pass an examination on the Victory Over Communism ideology, just as you did on the Principle. So, when that is completed, the same pattern -- a VOC lecture contest -- will be enforced. So, through a parallel revelation, the will is expressed. So, what will the fourth scene be?

Then, the same thing applies to the Unification Thought system -- to save the whole intellectual community -- the same thing applies. The time will come when those who have graduated from the Unification Thought course will get a chance to give a public speech to thousands and thousands of people. Then their names will be known not only on the national and international levels, but throughout all political fields in this country. So, as time goes by, they will eventually send a limousine to you: "Please help me, my election, my country -- so you will be invited by national and international celebrities. Would you like to be in that kind of a state and to be a person like that? [Yes!] This is more than a worldly university -- a top shelf, topnotch, super university, in a heavenly way. From then on, new libraries, new university facilities will appear; also new research projects. All sorts of new things will appear -- You have to be appreciative when you, think of this as a reality coming to you as an individual, as a good chance for, you, to distinguish yourself.

So, you know where you are heading now. Then, after that, what are we going to do? We are going to control or supervise a worldwide intellectual community, intellectual academics. In order to fulfill this, his wonderful project to bring up here Cambridge and Oxford intellectuals -- graduate students -- to hear lectures from world renowned university professors from the top universities in this country. This is not just talk, only in the initial stage -- he is in the process of accomplishing this program right now. Do you want to participate in this part of it? [Yes!] Anyone would participate if they knew the real meaning of what it is. Would you like to be a part of it? [Yes!] When you have to get our Master, our True Parents -- very interesting guy, isn't he? [Yes!]

So, he is still working on the expectation of the twenty years seed; he is preparing, he is doing something extraordinary which ordinary people don't know. He is preparing for the twenty years ahead of his plan. Then, by building -- we call it prefabricated building -- he is making all these partial plans -- prefabricated building, kingdom of heaven he is making, he is making part of it right now. Put it together system -- then suddenly, overnight, ideal houses appearing -- suddenly come up -- instead of groundwork done -- no need for that. Nobody knows or understands, except for the real designer -- the drawing designer or secret engineer only knows the business plan, nobody else. So, sometimes the main thing for you to do is to follow him blindly. There may be no reason for you to understand it. You think you want to go one way -- but he is going the other way -- so you just cannot understand him. That is why you have a problem with him. So, if we are ignorant, we should just leave everything to him. Just don't complain, don't even try to touch his area -- don't overstep him.

You have been with our Master -- the True Parents -- it must be about one year, or twelve months. Now, early in this movement, lots of Korean families -- intellectuals or super-intellectual men and women -- hung around him and complained about all kinds of things, measuring his own or her own complaint. But now, after twenty years, they are all completely surrendered, right now. So, he does not want you to repeat this same kind of mistake. You had better follow him blindly -- that is the best way. Ironically, he is saying -- you can't take it literally, very hard to translate -- he believes that American brains are far better than Oriental ones, so he thinks you will not make such a mistake. Why does he do this? Because there is a possibility that you will repeat the same junk. Are you pretty sure now where our Master, the True Parent, is driving you -- the destination of your life, your future? Then, the time will come when it will not be necessary for you to become the secretaries of senators -- they, the senators, will later become your secretaries.

So, without this kind of positive confidence, the idea that we are going to save this nation would be a fantasy -- but it is a reality. So, wait and see what happens. Do you believe it is possible? [Yes!] Well, in that sense, you are crazy people! [Laughter] If we go on in our talk like this -- for 30 days he could talk continuously. But he has no time, so he will quit here. So far as the Belvedere International Training Program is concerned, you know what it is and why he is doing it -- your participation and your situation.

Now, he has to decide who will be the actual members of the two special mobile units to be led by Commanders Joseph Sheftick and Perry Cordill. Those who are here from England -- ten people -- come out here. Ten people from England, recently arrived.

[Then Father selected the members for the International Mobile Units (1 and 2), to be headed by Joseph Sheftick and Perry Cordill.]

One more important thing he has to decide. In the past, Jesus and the disciples of Christianity received persecution, and their destiny was against God's will. Now, in this age of the Unification Church, we have to recover that relationship; so we are quickly going to win the Jewish people over to our movement. Those who are Jewish, carrying Jewish blood -- raise your hands, please. All come up, come forward. He said the dispensation is to have more Jewish families coming to our movement. Amen? [Amen!] Count off: [one, two, three .. seventeen]. Seventeen -- there are no more Jewish people? You should, all of you, understand this. We have to land on this side, we have to restore them to God. I will pick out one of the best members -- best quality, elite -- from here, to serve for an honorable purpose. Now, he is going to assign you people to the land of Israel -- centered on three leaders, twelve people are going to Israel. [Applause] By January, 1974, he is going to enforce this announcement. This means that these people, twelve people, will go to the land of Israel, to save their nation through the number twelve -- by the month of January, 1974. If you want to be selected for this mission, you have got to prove your ability while you are in this campaign. Whatever your responsibilities are, distinguish yourself -- then the privilege will go to the twelve best people. He will pick three leaders of our movement to restore the land of Israel; then some of them, some of the family, will be joining that troop. He is thinking of this general [Daniel Fefferman], one of the top leaders, Israelite general: you have to be the premier of the land of Israel, the chosen land.

So, those Jewish people within our movement should convert many, many people in the United States -- increase the troops and help in many ways -- try hard to convert your own people. So, he plans to have those who are now coming to this movement -- he will send them, on a continual basis, to the land of Israel. So, this is the end of his administrative, spiritual business with you.

He hopes you fulfill your promise, your pledge, before he comes back from the land of Korea. Forty-five days from now, we will see you again. He wants the Heavenly Father to bless you, and His grace be upon you, wherever you go, whatever you do.

The Significance Of July 1st, 1973 (My 21 Year Course)

As you know, today is July first, 1973. This is also a holy day, Sunday. Even though you do not understand the contents of my prayer, just offered, today is a most significant day for us as members of the Unification Church. This morning at 5:00 in the Main House there was an assembly of blessed couples and the leaders of our church in many nations and states were gathered there. We had a significant ceremony and a message was given to them. I would like to give you the same message today.

My subject concerns July first, 1973 in relation to the last three years in America. The years 1972, 1973 and 1974 are the last part of the second seven year course in our dispensation. It is not commonplace for me to come to America and take command of you so that we can work together here in America. This is very rare, very important and a vital opportunity for us. You and I first started this three year course together in America in 1972. In order to make this three year course possible, I already went through the first seven year course from 1961 to 1967, and I also passed through four prior years of the second seven year course, 1968 through 1971. From the Divine Principle we learn that history repeats itself in expanded versions. Because of the failure of the mission of Jesus 2,000 years ago, the pattern of history has to be repeated in our time, and we have to pay the indemnity for the failure at the time of Jesus. We are in a position to accomplish his mission. From the Divine Principle, we have already learned that the Messiah could not come through an independent nation, and he cannot come in a glorious way. Jesus came to accomplish the dispensation upon the foundation of Jewish faith, and upon the foundation of the nation of Israel. However, the people failed him and the nation did not accept him. Therefore, in order to restore this particular dispensation, we have to follow a similar pattern. Since they brought about the failure of Jesus' mission, the nation of Israel and the Jewish people were disintegrated, thus the mission of Jesus has had no base on which to operate. God has since prepared a similar foundation upon which the Messiah could come and restore the. mission of Jesus. God has been seeking a similar nation -- the nation of suffering -- for the base of the second coming of the Messiah.

For that position, Korea was chosen, and Korea had the necessary characteristics. Both the geography of Israel and Korea and the characteristics of the people are similar. Korean history has been repeating the pattern of the struggle between Cain and Abel in various forms. Korea has been attacked throughout history by foreign powers, but internally her struggle has not been diminished. She has struggled both internally and externally. Also Korea has had the fate of being annexed and subjugated by Japan for 36 years. This 36 years of tribulation undergone by the Korean people is the symbolic equivalent of the 400 years of Christian tribulation in Rome, and is also symbolically equivalent to the 400 years prior to the coming of Jesus where internal and external confusion were great. In order to compensate and pay indemnity for this period, Korea had to pass through 40 years of tribulation.

As you know, Japan was the nation which worshipped a female god. It is also very significant in the light of the dispensation that Japan has made such remarkable advancement in the last 120 years. Japan has moved up to the top of the world as a first class nation in 120 years time. However, while Japan is making external advancement to the top of the world, Korea is developing internally or spiritually. First, 80 years of Christian history, then 40 years of tribulation -- altogether going through a course of 120 years.

Ever since the struggle of Cain and Abel when Cain slew Abel, history has been dominated by Cain. In this pattern, Japan was in Cain's position and Korea in Abel's. Then Japan's subjugation of Korea for 40 years in light of Cain and Abel's position was fitting. Then, when a new history has begun in the light of the dispensation, the following 40 years was where Abel was to subjugate and control Cain in reverse. In 1960 the holy wedding marked the beginning of this 40 years. This 40 years was the period of our Leader's 40 years of age. God plans to make the twenty years between 1960 and 1980 a period of total advancement for the heavenly dispensation.

This twenty years between 1960 and 1980 is symbolically equivalent to the 2,000 years of history since Jesus. It can also be symbolically equivalent to the total of 6,000 years of fallen history. The history of God has been divided into three distinct parts. This is equivalent to formation, growth and perfection through three stages: 2,000 years pre-Old Testament, 2,000 years Old Testament, 2,000 years since Jesus. This is a total of 6,000 years. It is God's plan to have this vertical history of 6,000 years restored horizontally in twenty years by the payment of indemnity. Therefore, in this twenty years every phenomenon which occurred in the 6,000 years of history must reoccur either symbolically or directly. Therefore, this twenty years is a time of unprecedented confusion and chaos, and the situation will develop in a totally unexpected fashion.

We can divide history into three parts. In the time of the Old Testament, we offered sacrifices through animals. During the New Testament man (the son) became the sacrifice. Then in the last part of the history, the consummation, the True Parents have to be in the position to pay indemnity. The beginning point of the new history is the appearance of the True Parents. So, the entire vertical history is now enacted horizontally at one time to be indemnified and then restored. The history of the Unification Church began at that point. The first part of God's history stressed denying the material, because the material, the things of creation, were sacrificed then. Therefore, in the first part of our movement, we emphasized the denial of material things. In the second part, we emphasize the sacrifice of man and the son. Therefore, in the second stage of our church we emphasize denial of self. The final stage is the time for the Parents to pay the indemnity. Therefore, the True Parents are in a position to go through untold tribulation in that period. The history of restoration can be consummated only by having the True Parents pay the entire debt. So, Master has to be in a position to negate, to deny everything. When I am in the sight of God, I am in the position of positive or subject, and my family is in the position of minus, and in the objective position. So, my family has to suffer as the object to me. The object has to pay indemnity too.

The nation which receives the True Parents has to be in the position of object as well. That nation has to suffer. Therefore, the nation in which the Messianic mission began must be in the position of suffering and has to go through untold tribulation. Then, that nation must be in a position of despair -- the people are in despair, and their families and everyone else is despairing. Then the new hope of truth will appear to the people and the nation together. Then, the new acceptance of the truth will come, and there will be new hope, new life and a new history will have begun. This is the hope of the 1945 liberation of Korea, the hope that came to this suffering land. This is the year, as far as Japan is concerned, which was the day of doom. But, as far as Korea is concerned, this year marked a day of hope.

Therefore, it was my mission at that time to connect that new day of hope to the family, people and nation. Under these circumstances in which God can restore His people, His nation, His tribe and His family. This is the promising situation, in which Korea is placed in the position of the restored Israel, the nation where Jesus lost hope. Then the Lord of the Second Advent can come, gain hope and restore his nation to order. Jesus failed because the people did not have faith in him. The way we regain that lost status is through hope and faith. The failure of Jesus can be attributed to a lack of faith on the part of the Jewish people. Therefore, we are in a position to restore the Jewish faith. To do this, we must be in a position to accept the Lord of the Second Advent. For the Christian population to actually serve as a base on which to accept the Lord was very important. And every nation of big power was in a position to protect this little country of Korea. Therefore, at that time, I intended to start my public ministry by having good relations with the people in the highest positions of power. But in the most important groups in Korea at that time there were several Christian leaders. They violently persecuted us, and I was thus unable to carry out my initial plan.

I am giving you a message that was never given and will not be given again -- this is a unique message to you today. So, I would like to ask your fullest attention.

Then, those several Christian leaders in the highest level not only influenced other people in the highest level, but they also influenced the entire Christian population in all of Korea. That preparation was done in three years time -- 1965, 1966 and 1967. Until our independence in 1948, 1 was on the surface just one man, just an individual. But nobody in Korea knew of my vast historical significance. Since I knew the cause of Jesus' failure, I developed my tactic to perfection. I have such a wise tactic that I will not repeat the failure of Jesus. At the same time, God knew that my path was not going to be smooth, so He prepared in His own way many spiritual groups to be influenced by those who would testify to me. It was amazing to know how precisely God planned according to the Principle. No matter how much God prepared the path of ministry for the Lord of the Second Advent, there was a certain period in which man had to fulfill his condition of faith just as in the time of Jesus. The Christians and the government rejected me in disbelief -- thus, the same failure happened in Korea as did in the time of Jesus. Therefore, I could not go through the original course. I had to alter my direction.

At the time of Jesus, the people of the Jewish faith, and as well as the Israeli government, used their power to persecute Jesus and crucified him. When history was repeated in Korea, the Korean Christian population used their power to destroy my life. When this division occurred, the nation had to be divided, to face the persecution of the Christian population. Externally I had to go against the God denying power of communism. The communist invasion was inevitable. Therefore, God prepared Christianity to accept the coming Lord. When they failed to fulfill this mission, the Korean Christian churches were doomed.

During World War II, Hitler massacred many Jewish people. By the same token, when Korea repeated the pattern of history, her tribulation promised to be insurmountable. Just as in the time of Jesus, therefore, Christianity was in the position to be doomed. In order to carry out this purpose, communism became strong and aggressive and is sweeping into the Christian community. The communist march is becoming stronger and stronger -- not only against democracy, but to ultimately destroy the Christian churches and Christianity.

Meanwhile, as communism advances against Christianity, the Unification Church grows inwardly, and now is advancing rapidly. We are growing in strength parallel to the communist aggression. We are in a position to restore both the democratic ranks and the Christian churches. We have to organize sufficient strength to stand against communism. Fourteen years after I began my public ministry, in 1960, 1 performed the holy wedding -- the wedding of the Lamb, that the Bible predicted, in 1960. In 1960, therefore, the first heavenly family was established upon the earth. That was equivalent in significance to the very moment of the crucifixion of Jesus. Therefore, the Christian power and as well as the national power together tried to destroy us in 1960, and untold phenomena occurred. Until just before the day of my holy wedding, there was tremendous persecution. Particularly 12 members who were the satanic imitation of the 12 disciples of Jesus banded together and tried to destroy me, even at the very moment of our holy wedding. There were nothing but enemies in front of me at that time. There were many people who fell from the church and who became the enemy. Many Christian churches and the Korean government banded together to try to destroy me.

The high peak of this came at April, 1960. This was a life or death matter. This step was very critical. Under those very adverse conditions, I won the first and most important victory. I consummated the Heavenly plan. This was the most historical day in the history of God. This was the day that the Heavenly Son came to the earth, restored the base, and welcomed the first Bride of Heaven. Therefore, on this day God has had His first true base on the earth from which He could continue to expand-He had His one focal point.

Jesus died on the cross before he was able to restore his bride. Therefore, the base was not formed upon the earth -- this was restored in 1960 by having one Heavenly Bride restored on the earth. After the crucifixion, Jesus restored the spiritual foundation in 40 days, after his resurrection. However, in our movement, I am in the position to restore the spiritual as well as the physical. Therefore, the history of the Unification Church began at that time, and the twenty years was that period. From that day, the new ministry has begun and God is now having His true base on the earth. Now He can open up His heart and welcome the children to the heart of God.

The vertical history, the formal history, has to be restored in a horizontal way. Therefore, this is the new beginning of the entire restoration history, and is symbolically equivalent in importance to the day of Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve never had the opportunity to be blessed. But this is the time of the blessing of one blessed couple. Then the ministry has to go through the formation and growth stages. At the time of Jesus, God had restored up to the formation stage. By the New Testament Age, God has restored up to the growth stage. However, the perfection period is still in the domain of Satan. Therefore, we must expect difficulties which can be divided into three separate parts, each seven years in the 21 years consisting of hard struggle. These three seven year periods will end in 1981 -- 21 years. By this 21 years, we are restoring the entire fallen history in a horizontal way.

At the time of Moses, God directly intervened in human affairs. This is almost inconsistent with the Principle because at this time in Old Testament history, the formation period, God directly intervened. Why did God have to do this? Because He had to show His pattern to Moses, so that Jesus could follow the pattern of Moses. In turn, Jesus' pattern is the pattern we have to follow. Do you understand? So, this horizontal restoration -- the first seven years -- is equivalent to the first seven years of the formation era in which God directly intervened to show Himself. By the same token, the leader has to show his own example to his followers. This is the first seven year course. In this first seven years I do away with the satanic conditions, any condition that Satan could invade through. In other words, I eliminate all possibility of satanic persecution.

Of course you do not know the hidden history of the first family, the relationship of the father and the mother -- a symbolically significant and deep relationship of heart. Master is paying the indemnity for Jesus' followers -- he is setting the example so that all people of the world in his time can follow to be restored. Also, his ministry is on the world wide scale to make the link between all people and all nations. This was made through several processes of blessing. We go beyond the boundary of nation, race, and creed, and we are able to be purely united as children of God. By 1967 this base was formed and completely consummated. This blessing was conducted in several stages, and the last one was 777 in which all nations and races were included in the number 777, so we went beyond the national base and well into the worldwide scale. In other words, I laid the foundation for all races to be victorious by sending their representatives to participate in this holy wedding.

The second seven years is the course that the blessed family has to go. The second seven years is the age of the children. According to history, the first period is equivalent to Old Testament era and the second seven years is equivalent to the New Testament era. Jesus could not restore his people; therefore, this period is the period to restore your own people -- own family, own tribe, own nation. Jesus could not have his own people because he could not have his family. Therefore, he could not truly fulfill as a son. So, in our time we already have Heavenly couples all over the country, and these people are in the position that Jesus was never in. We are in the position . to restore our own family, people, and tribe. To set out on his public ministry, Jesus had to give up everything -- including his own family, mother and brothers.

In order to restore this family in the first seven years, Master also has to disregard his own people. So, I passed through this first seven year period with the same spirit as Jesus: "Those who are doing the will of God are my brothers and sisters". No blood relationship was considered important to me. Because I laid the foundation for the first seven years in this fashion, upon which you are blessed, so, you are in a most fortunate position where you can reach out to your own family members. You can preach the gospel to your family: mother, sisters, aunt, relatives. The eventual purpose of the restoration is to restore the Heavenly family. So, in order to go out and preach to strangers, it is far better to relate by preaching the gospel to the people nearest to you, which is the Heavenly family. I urge you to reach out to your own parents and own people.

However, in my time there was no such thing. I knew that the first seven years was the period of utmost tribulation. There was no family around me. I went into North Korea where there was severe persecution, and I had to work with only strangers. When I was fortunately released from the prison in North Korea, I was in the position to visit my parents who were within one hour's drive. However, I sought instead for strangers, and I permanently parted from my family. Since then my beloved mother, who loved me most, and my beloved elder brother became the victims of communism, and were never seen again. I denied them and sought strangers. You came, and therefore I came to meet you.

This is the history of the Unification Church. So, the first seven years is that part of the history of the Unification Church during which our Leader went through tremendous tribulation. During the first 5 years of the second seven year course in which we are now, I was doing my very best, before I came to America, to restore some form of national sovereignty in Korea. The Unification Church is in the Abel position, and the Christians are in the Cain position. In order to subjugate Cain in a wise way, I wanted to restore a certain position for our national influence in Korea. There are many existing churches in Korea, but compared to those, the only living church is the Unification Church. I am proud of this. During his time, Jesus was in the position of the enemy, and they nailed him down. But in my time in Korea, I welcomed persecution, I persuaded many and taught them the Principle. Many ministers came to our church. In other words, the Christian church is in a position to follow us. In Cain's position, the existing churches are in the position to be threatened by us in a good way. I also prepared a great movement, linking Korea, Japan and China all in one rank. Korea is in Adam's position. Therefore, unless Adam links together with his neighbors in a friendly manner, the worldwide dispensation cannot begin. So, especially until 1971, I have never neglected Japan or Free China, and I have done my very best to win them over and a beautiful bond was formed. Also, internally, spiritually, I linked all three nations together.

In other words, before I came here to America, I paid all my dues -- all indemnity that was due to me. I fulfilled my part completely for Korea, Japan and Free China. I have done my part. I gave tremendous advice to Free China. If they followed my advice consistently, then they would never have been expelled from the United Nations. I gave advice to Generallissimo Chaing Kai-Shek, and I used Mr. Kuboki as my messenger. Since I am in Adam's position, I cannot deal with this country directly. Free China is in the archangel's position; therefore, I had to use Eve -- Japan. Mr. Kuboki is the leader there. The Japanese are faithfully following my commands, and are ruthlessly attacking the enemy camp in tears and blood. I created this atmosphere by 1971 -- this was destined to be, and I have done it. Now, my chance has come to land in America, since I have done my part in Asia. Even though Free China did. not follow my advice and failed, I remained in a victorious position because it was not my responsibility to fulfill -- it was their responsibility to follow my advice.

So, I completed my responsibility in that part of the world, and I was ready to come to America. If Free China is in the position of archangel in the formation stage, America is in the position of archangel in the growth stage. So, the final battleground I have chosen is here in America. America is in the archangel position in the growth stage, and the battle between Heavenly archangel and Satanic archangel, which is communism, must be fought in this land and won on this ground, here in America. The Satanic archangel is strong and victorious in any areas, and the communists are proclaiming the ideal nation, their heavenly kingdom on earth. Therefore, in 1972 I came to America and now a new phase of the dispensation has begun since my arrival. I am now here and the showdown is imminent. I have to be here to prepare the Heavenly archangel to stand against the satanic archangel, and we are the ones who have to proclaim the Heavenly Kingdom -- not the satanic archangel, the communists. Jesus went through three years public ministry -- the confrontation was made in these three years. My public ministry in Korea was likewise a showdown and was completed in three years. Also here in America there is a showdown in three years --1972, 1973, and 1974. These three years are the most critical period of battle -- the second year was the most critical, and Jesus' failure came in the second part of Jesus' ministry. Whether we do it right or wrong in the second year of this ministry will decide the entire outcome.

When I sent out the missionaries to America, I divided the country into two parts. To the East I sent a man, and to the West I sent a woman. Then another man came to the Western part of America to assist. The person who came to the East at that time was Bo Hi Pak, who was in Adam's position, Miss Young Oon Kim was in Eve's position in the West, and Mr. David Kim was in the archangel's position in the West. So in order for the archangel to fulfill his position in America, Eve has to come first. She is the one who prepares and lays the carpet to unite all three parts of the mission in America. However, this unity was not made, and all three were divided. This is the most critical mistake they were making, and this was not the way this nation's ministry could be decisive in victory.

I have a master strategy to win America, and they did not know or truly understand my entire strategy. Therefore, when I as the commander and chief landed in America, there should have been troops to join and engage in the greatest battle ever. But that order was not there. So, in the entire year of 1972, instead of engaging in the outward battle, I had to reestablish our own ranks myself. According to the Principle, I determined to have this internal reorganization and strengthening our own ranks by the end of June, 1973. So, prior to this meeting, I instructed all the leaders in America to have a church established by the State Representative in every state -- maybe not substantially, but in form -- and a mobile team in every state, at least in form. This can represent the organization of the church to the whole nation. The state church was in the internal position, and the mobile unit was in the external position. So, the One World Crusade is the attacker, going out and doing rallies and spreading the message externally. It was very significant from the point of heavenly history that I came and did this, and that by the end of June, which was yesterday, we arrived at that point of fulfillment.

So, the destiny of America, upon which the destiny of the world is hinged, depends on you as a Mobile Unit Director and you as a State Representative -- if you two are able to completely become one. The State Representative is in a position to represent us to all the American churches in the religious community, and the One World Crusade unit commander is in the position to represent us to the power of government and the social community. Therefore, the State Representative is in a position of representing the Israeli religion at the time of Jesus, and the mobile unit in the position of the Israeli government at the time of Jesus. Jesus, the Jewish faith, and the Israeli people -- these three united into one was the fulfillment. At this time the same thing is true. The unity of Master, the Mobile Unit Commander, and the State Representative is the key to victory. So, just as in the time of Jesus, if these three became one, they would have Jesus as their commander and chief. Then, in his lifetime, these living forces could move courageously toward Rome, and Rome would have been collapsed by the Heavenly forces at that time. By the same token, Father, Mobile Unit Commander, and State Representative must become one, then we can march forward.

Once we have this rank and this unity and strength here in America, then the ultimate enemy is Soviet Russia. Then the "March to Moscow" is going to be our motto. That new command begins today. The determination of the disciples of Jesus, when they would march toward Rome, was such that they would give their lives. By this same token, our resolution today must be "We fight with our lives to achieve the final victory." If at the time of Jesus, with Jesus as a center, the Jewish church and the Israeli people were resolved to unite into one, they would never have died, they would all have become the victorious conquerors. At the time of Jesus that position was, not there. Each sought their own lives, so one by one they were systematically destroyed, instead of dying all together, all the people of the Jewish nation died individual. Jesus died, by himself, his disciples died separately. Because they did not unite with Jesus, they lost the, most fortunate moment to die for God -- which is the true way to live. So, the, Bible says that those who seek life will lose it, and those who lose life for his sake will find it. This tremendous promise was not fulfilled at that time.

So the State Representatives and the Mobile Unit Commanders must realize today that we are very fortunate that God has given us this glorious I moment in which we can die for the cause. Then, if we have that resolve, we will never die. So, the declaration of the first of July is this, "You must become absolutely one with our path." This is the essential key for our complete victory. There is such a battle to be fought. You must be resolved that "I am going to be the front line soldier, not our Father; let me do the fighting." If you do that, what you are doing is what the Israeli people failed to do 2,000 years ago. However, what you are doing now is for the worldwide scale. Do you understand me? [Yes!] It is a very serious moment. Whether the heavenly nation stands or falls depends upon this very significant moment. You are attending this very meeting of a new resolve. We have ten nations gathered in this room: Korea, Japan, China, England, Netherlands, France, Austria, Germany, Italy, and America -- the most important one last. We are, creating here a new epoch of history -- ten nations of people gathered together in one, room making one common resolve. This alone is very historical. Here we must build a firm conviction that all ten nationalities can die together for one cause. Therefore, this is a historical moment. Who will say, "I can do that?" If you think like this raise your hands -- only the ones who are absolutely sure. In order to complete the three year course -- the balance of the second seven year course, we have one year and a half to go. The invitation of the university people from England and Japan is merely part of the whole scheme -- the whole strategy. I also met the leaders of this country and many senators. and congressmen -- about 60-in the last year and a half. This also comes from this one course strategy and purpose in my mind. Last year I first organized the public speaking tour of seven cities in America, and this year 21 cities, and next year 50 cities. Through these three years, we are going to proclaim that all the people of America must know the Divine Principle and the coming of our Father. This is the course of the third restoration into Canaan.

So, we have to save this people and save this country, and lead them into Canaan together. Our ultimate goal is a march to Moscow. You must have that conviction. Communists are now pursuing their goal to take America. But this plan has to be reversed. Where will we meet this force of aggression? We will meet them in Asia -- in Korea. A strange situation developed in Asia which cannot be explained in any other way except through the Divine Principle. During these three years I have to win the influence of intellectual people in America. There again the existing Christian churches may be in a position to persecute us. But even so, once we win the intellectual people, we will not be defeated, we will be the victors again. So, I am making preparation to invite all the famous college professors from all the Ivy League schools to come to us and learn about us. As Abel, what we can give to them? We have to give the truth -- spiritual food -- internally. We also give external service. For this three years I am giving the spiritual food, truth, myself directly. Throughout my life, this is my first experience to speak publicly. The stage of the coming of the Messiah is not limited to one nation or any one geographical section. He has to come on a worldwide scale. So, his public ministry has to be on a worldwide scale. This precious three years must be fruitful. This moment is truly making the strongest impact in human history. In our work, in our public speaking crusade, all ten nationalities must work together as brothers. We must begin the prayer for the October crusade. Everyone must possess this conviction -- we are going to win, we must win. The entire spiritual world is with us; they are going to support us. Since we are the ones physically acting we are important to them. I also have a master plan to distribute our books to an entire intellectual community of America. College professors, ministers, priests, celebrities, VIP's in all walks of life. We are going to distribute the Divine Principle analysis of Communism and the Unification ideology. I plan to distribute these books freely. I assume that will be more than 400,000 copies. Suppose it costs $1 per person to give them one book. Then it will already cost $400,000. This is a historical thing. Inwardly, Father and State Representative and Mobile Unit Commander united make a core. Externally we are giving out this truth. This is the way we can pay sufficient indemnity for America. Also in three years internally Our Leader is directly giving spiritual food -- the message to all people. This is a tremendous thing, really. We must win the heart of America, the public opinion of America and then the whole world will come to us.

In the last seven months since my arrival here in America, many significant events have occurred. The Christian community is now falling down, democracy is falling down. But in the heavenly center, our church movement and our mobile unit crusade is now booming. In number we are small, compared to millions, but this group has the power to. support and stop the falling of the Christian community. Our real enemy is communism. However, the American government and the Christian community is not yet on our side -- we are still sort of isolated. Now, all sides are open, and in a way we are defenseless -- the government, the communists, even the Christian community can attack. But in strength, in the strength of our faith, though those powers seem to be incredible, they will not touch a finger upon you. This is equivalent to the battle of David against Goliath in the United States. I am like the shepherd in the desert to the American people. However, in this entire vast land of America, no one really dare says "I am going to take the responsibility to restore this country and stop communism." No one -- none dare bear that responsibility. Not even in the Christian community. So, the communist power is now growing daily and seems to be invincible. They say, "You, God fearing country of America, how much power do you have?" Communism is now approaching us as a formidable Goliath. America is now in the position to ask, "where is David?", where is the man who can stand up to communism? God, however, has things ready. David did not have any armament, he was dressed humbly and he stood up to Goliath. I am sure, from the position of communism, they are surely decided that the size of our Unification Church is so insignificant and our VOC is so small, that they are laughing at us.

However, God will persevere and wait until the very last moment when things look bad; He will persist until the very last moment. That's the way God makes his victory dramatic -- from extreme to extreme. There, America's David is you, the Unification Church -- we are summoned. David stands forward to Goliath -- now Goliath is laughing at David but David, however small, knows that God is with him. He has firm belief that God is with him and untiring faith that God's power is working within him. He never fears. With God with him, David became an invincible and fearless person. There, David is waiting for the final command from God. As soon as the command comes, he fought as with one stroke, and the decisive victory was done. How perfectly identical our position is to that of David. However, we should be better than David. At least David had his own nation -- Israel ---but we do not have our own nation; yet we emerge out of our wilderness -- we come to this power.

So, our battle could be more dramatic than the battle of David. Because we formed our power in the wilderness, and came against a giant more dramatic than Goliath. Our victory will be a victory for God. The command to march forward against Goliath is coming today, July first. I only hope you are ready -- in your spirit, in your faith, your determination, and your physical well being. We must realize at the end of this battle what kinds of situations are waiting for us. We are in a position to pay the indemnity for all the worldwide causes in the final day. Once we fail this battle, once we become a defeated David, then the untold tribulation is ahead of this country, the people of the world, this country and you. We have no way to pay, except by our blood and flesh. We came this far in the history of the Unification Church working progress for the twenty years of history since 1960. We come to this final three years and the key to victory is in your hands -- the Mobile Unit Commander and State Representative becoming one with our Father. Actually, I have been waiting for this battlefield, waiting for this moment and 6,000 years history -- the True Parents have been waiting for this final moment of battle. This movement must come in order for us to go over and go beyond. So, we have 18 months and only 18 months, and must do our utmost best.

We are in the position to die either way. We retreat, then death is waiting for us. We march forward, then death is waiting for us. What shall we do? [March!] You have to decide that point. Those who make that resolve raise your hands. This day whether we win hope for the world, or disaster for the world. This is a life or death matter, and your life or death will be decided by you on this very day. Don't worry about the surrounding. Don't worry about the outlook of our enemies -- these are not the factors to decide victory. The key of victory is within you, it is not external. All I fear is that you may disobey God. This is the one fear I have -- I have no other fear. I am so glad I am here to be able to make this proclamation, this declaration -- this is already a step toward victory, since in order to make this declaration, I had to make certain preparation. So, by making that preparation, we have made the declaration of it.

I am not speaking to you at random, but this is the absolute truth and the world will follow this pattern. There is no other way. The great crisis is it hand here in America. In the next seven years, up to 1978, the most catastrophic and chaotic situation will persist in America. Then, when we've fulfilled our three years, we can turn the history of the next seven years crisis in our favor. We can then promise new history, new hope to this land, America. In this particular period we are really restoring, we are doing a total restoration equivalent to the 200 years of American history. This 200 years of American history must conclude when these twenty years of our Father's life and the twenty years of the Unification Church make a most successful conclusion together. These three years, in a way, are the preparation for the final seven years which will be ended in 1981. In the Divine Principle you learn that all the great dispensations have been prepared for three years. These three years are critical, and preparation so important that this will in fact decide the final seven years history.

The final seven years is nothing but a straightforward pioneering path. In these three years, if America does not listen to us, follow us, then America is destined to a doomed fate thereafter. Our fate is no better. So, we have to combat this physical battle, and win this physical victory. When you look at the world situation today, don't you feel this urgency? [Yes!] If it is so apparent on the surface of the world, then you can well imagine how much hard work and labor God has been doing in order to have this opportunity ready for us. So, we are to fulfill for America, more than any other great saint that has come to America. We are doing the greatest for this country and for the world. Our heart is a historical heart in which 6,000 years of history has been dwelling; thus we have this feeling for history, God labored so hard for 6,000 years, but he wants to reap the final crop.

Whether you like it or not, God has given you this mission. It is now up to us to fulfill our task and win for God. If we fail, the first one to be punished is us. Love is a two edged sword, in case we fail in His love. As you know, in order to come to this particular mission, I certainly walked a more miserable path than any man ever walked. There is no second chance -- no redoing it. If we fail, there is no restoration beyond us. Then, how will the world be restored? God will throw out this world, because this world will be no good to God anymore. When God abandons our world, then this world will become a world of beasts in which there is no ideology, everyone just beating and fighting each other. This would continue eternally. The human race was not destined for that struggle. Truly, truly a serious moment.

Now You Must think of yourselves as a representative of God, as a champion of God, and willingly accept this responsibility. Let us fulfill our goals and return glory and joy to God, becoming true sons and daughters to God. This is the message of July first. In order to win the love of God, we Must become the victors.

So, my message was "Three Years and Today", stressing the importance of these three years and the significance of today. Shall we do it? [Yes!] Shall we pray.

The Starting Point Of Good And Evil

It is difficult for us to define exactly what is good and what is evil. As we have seen through human history, a thing was called good if it was in conformity with the idea of the philosophy of the age, else it was thought to be evil. More specifically, for example, if and when someone makes and breaks a promise or fails to carry out the promise, they are called bad or evil.

The individual calls something good when he gains or bad if he loses something. When we ask ourselves if it is really good when something gives us profit or bad when it causes us loss, then we are not sure because the standard of profit or loss varies according to the individual. When we compare the conditions in the Communist world with the conditions in the democratic world, religion is not admitted in the Communist world whereas it is admitted in the democratic world.

We can safely say that the standard of good and evil in the Communistic world is different from that in the democratic world. Roughly divided, there are two main ideological blocs in the world: the Communist world and the democratic world. But even in the democratic world the standard of good and evil can vary according to the nations and to the view of life of the people. Then, what is the origin of good and evil? It is fundamental to clarify at what point good and evil started.

The starting point of your life is your parents; the starting point of your parents is your grandparents, and so on. When we trace back our human history, the starting point for humanity is our first human ancestors -- Adam and Eve. The starting point of Adam and Eve had to be God, and therefore, God's standard of good and evil should be the absolute standard.

Therefore, the standard of good and evil after the human fall could not be a fundamental one -- even if we do find a better standard of good and evil in the democratic world, where people believe in God. You are not the starting point of good and evil; and neither am I. Then, what is the starting point of good and evil, and where is it?

The starting point of good and evil was Adam and Eve, the first human ancestors. Again, it has something to do with God. Originally the relationship between God and man is that between the Creator and the created, or the Master and servant, Father and son and, in general, that between subject and object. In no way is man the subject being in his relationship with God.

Man is the result of God's creation. Right from the beginning man was not born of his own accord. We were born from the motivation of another existence, which was God. Therefore, it is clear enough that we are not the subject, but are in the position of object to God. We were not born because we wanted to be born. Then, what could motivate our desire?

We cannot think of ourselves separately from God as the subject. We are nothing without Him. Only when we look for Him and find Him can we find the motivation of our life. We are destined to find God before finding the true meaning in life. We know that we have our own desires but we must know that these are secondary desires.

The original desire can be found only when we find the ultimate subject, God, and become one with Him in love and in goodness. In other words, the standard of goodness cannot be defined by us -- by man. The standard of goodness must be defined by the ultimate subject Being who is absolute and perfect -- whether we name Him God or something else.

Then, the question is what is it that God would have us do that is goodness? Would He not want us to attain the purpose and value of our lives by becoming one with Him and doing good things? Then, goodness will start from that point. If man is in the object position to God as the subject, God is compelled to show us the way of goodness. And He already showed it to Adam and Eve.

As I said before, the relationship between God and man is that between subject and object. The subject and object must finally become one through the action of give and take. Love alone can keep the perfection of give and take making any two into one. Centered on love, what kind of relationship would bring the two into the closest and strongest oneness?

It must be the kind of love which we first experience in our life as a child to our parents, which will last forever. That is the love between father and child. As I said before, the very beginning of our lives started with the love relationship between our parents and us. Only when there is perfect love between a husband and wife can they give birth to perfect children. The love between parents and children will last through eternity, while conjugal love can be broken.

So, again we must say that the love relationship between parents and children is the strongest. Even without trying, in their loving and serving their children, parents are examples for us to learn how to love and serve others. The first thing in our life we learn from our parents is how to love and serve others.

We cannot deny that our parents, in the position of God, have shown us the example of God, loving and serving His children. Then we come to the conclusion that if man learned from God in the beginning how to love and serve others, and put it into practice, a world of love and harmony would have come about. Loving and serving others is the example and tradition set before us by God. If Adam and Eve, following His example, loved and served each other, and they, in oneness, served and loved God, the world of goodness and unity would have come about.

If you serve others without love there, true unity cannot come about. If you calculate profit from others and for that purpose, serve others and exalt them, people cannot become one with you, because only love can make true unity. If you serve others at the sacrifice of yourself, centered on love, the love can be returned manifold; however hard you may serve others, if it is not centered on love it will cause nothing and you will have worked in vain.

If you really love someone, you can leave everything in his hands with assurance. It is because in love there is no "mine" or "yours," but everything belongs to both. Only love makes it possible. In this case, loving and serving that person will not cause any loss to you. If you leave things to someone you love, they are still yours, and what is his is also yours -- thus in love, you have twice the benefit.

As you love and serve the person, you can come to completely occupy his heart, thus coming into perfect unity and harmony with him. So, no power whatever can separate those who truly love each other. If you serve people with love, what you have given will be returned to you, with all he has added to it.

In the beginning God would have wanted all humankind to become one with each other in love. The expression of love should have been service and sacrifice for others. God, Himself, did the same for mankind. If Adam and Eve, after the example and tradition of God's love, had loved each other, and if they in oneness had loved and served God, their descendants would have done the same and the ideal world would have come about.

Only in this way could God have built the ideal world through man. In love you want to completely occupy your mate and you want to be completely occupied by him. Isn't that true? Yes, you want to be completely occupied by your mate, until there will be no "you." In that situation there can be no "you" and no "he," but in oneness both of you are elevated to a higher dimension of yourselves. In that kind of love there can be no complaint, no negative power can work there; even though you may be smashed and trodden upon, your love cannot be broken.

If, on the worldly level, your physical parents loved and served you by bestowing Godly love in their hearts, you then could have done the same following their example, while your children in turn would do the same for their descendants. This is how the kingdom of Godly love could have come about. The children who had received this kind of love from their parents would learn to love their parents in return. This is the first love the children learn and the first love they practice.

As I see, in this country of America, the parents are do not have such love. If the parents should love their children transcending individual interest, then their children, too, could have learned and practiced the love towards them. Then, the bond of love between the parents and children could be so strong that the parents would never divorce each other and leave their children in misery and unhappiness.

No child would want his parents to love him with self-centered love or half-heartedly, with their interests in something else. The same applies to brothers' love towards each other. Even in the relationship between the government and people of a nation, if they do not love and serve each other, their relationship will be broken.

Now we have come to the truth that the starting point of goodness is to love and serve others. This is the standard of goodness which started at the beginning of human history, and has lasted through the process of history and will endure through eternity. The same thing applies in the relationship between God and man, parents and children, husband and wife, brothers and sisters and between families, between tribes, between nations, thus making the whole world into one under God in love and goodness. We call this present world a world of evil because this world is not what it should be according to the standard of goodness we have set.

You are Western people, but suppose there is an Oriental man loving you more than any Westerner, including your brothers and friends, would love you. Would you not love this Oriental man more than you would love your own brothers? It is man's original tendency to respect and exalt the persons who love and serve others.

We cannot deny this fact. If goodness is to serve others centered on Godly love, then what must be evil? Evil is the contrary. What must it be to love and serve others for the sake of oneself? Is that good or not? Even though people seemingly love and serve others, if they love and do things centered on themselves, it is evil.

So, we can see that good and evil start at the same point but head in different directions. Service to others is good, but unless the service is centered on Godly love, we cannot call it good. So, we cannot deny that good and evil are headed for different directions according to the quality of love they are centered upon. Even in witnessing to people, if you evangelize in order to go to heaven, then what is this, good or bad?

You must rearrange your way of thinking and put things in order. You may say to yourself, "In this movement I must bring at least three or more members in three years' time in order to be blessed. I must work desperately hard." Is that good or bad? If, in that case, you think of the urgency of God's providence of restoration and are desperate to witness to the people from that viewpoint, then it is good. It is good because you are doing that not for your sake, but for the sake of God.

Every religion teaches us to pursue goodness and practice good, teaching how to love and serve people. But we must have the clear picture of how good and evil deviated at the original point, going to entirely different directions, according to the quality of love that things are centered on. We know that Adam and Eve fell somewhere in the beginning.

This means that evil came into existence at a certain point, where it could have been good. For a man who was born not out of his own will, to have wanted to do his own will was the beginning of the fall. In order for him to be good, he was supposed to do the things his subject, God, would take delight in. But apart from this, they wanted to do what they pleased and thus caused evil to come about. Evil having been brought about from this point... If anything starts at this point, we can define it as evil.

I am here as your leader, but if I always want you to do things for my sake, then you will fall away one after another as time goes by. If I keep doing this, there will be no one left here. All will escape from me. If I do things for a selfish and self-centered purpose, the outcome is only too clear. I could pretend to be good for awhile, but sooner or later your spirit would come to know that I am not, and although you pretended to obey me you would inwardly complain.

Finally everything will explode, it will rupture. Nothing like perfect unity is possible there. The more we struggle to be united into one, the quicker the rupture will come about. This is what has happened though human history -- everything being judged by the people as to whether it is good or evil.

In this light, we can judge that persons like Jesus led a wonderful and good life, according to the ultimate standard. From his childhood he did not think he was born for only his own family, his tribe, or his nation. He knew he was born to save the whole world; thus he called himself the son of God. He had the definite idea that God was his Father and he His son. He thought, "I am born for you, I live for you, and I am going to die for you."

Therefore, he was confident that God's love would abide in him forever. We know that was a great discovery. With this confidence he left a great example of divine love -- even asking forgiveness of his enemies who put him on the cross. With this great love he influenced and moved the hearts of the Roman people who had once oppressed and persecuted him; and from then on, the Roman Empire came into the sphere of Christian culture, playing an important role.

If the people of the United States and the people of the whole world really know this theory of divine love, the whole world will come to be a world of goodness with every possible scientific achievement used for the good of the world, and where every man knows he is born for others and for the sake of the whole.

That's why every man by nature wants to do things for the public benefit, thus leaving good accomplishments after his death. You want to be thought good by others, but before being proud of yourself, you must be able to be proud of your friends, your group and so on through larger units of society. Then the people around you will be proud of you.

If you are too proud of yourself, others will not like you. Always think that you see things, hear things, and experience things not for the sake of yourself, but for the sake of appreciation of the things you perceive. Do this in order to appreciate things you see and hear. In this way, your viewpoint is entirely different from that of ordinary people. The stories you will want to hear most are those which other people take delight in.

Your original mind tends to like things which all others like. Isn't that true? To do that we must tear down the walls in which we have been confining ourselves. We must take the initiative to tear down the walls to reach out to others instead of waiting for others to reach in to us. Suppose there is a highway newly paved. Everyone would want to drive on that highway instead of the narrow, bumpy road next to it. In this case you don't have to tell people to drive on the highway, they will do that automatically.

Now I am sure you know clearly what the starting point of good and evil really is. We know that if we serve others centered on divine love, it is always good. Everything you do for the sake of yourself is either bad or at least not good in God's sight. If I hold up my hand for a selfish purpose, is it good or bad?

But if I hold up my hand for your sake, the same act will arouse your attention and interest. Suppose there is a marathon runner on the Olympic track, racing desperately representing the nation; wouldn't the people themselves feel as if they are running the race and cheer him on? In that case the runner is doing a great things for the sake of his nation.

Is that bad or good? [GOOD!] When the runner wins first prize, it really doesn't belong to him alone. His name will remain with the history of that nation. Would you, too, want to become a famous and important person on the national level? Then, try to serve others centered on true love. Even if you were a candidate for president, would the people elect you if you are serving others for self-centered purposes?

Now the Watergate event is the focus of world attention. American people believe that Nixon and his colleagues did that for their own interests, but if the President did that with the belief that he was the only way this nation could be saved from its difficulties and that he therefore had to be re-elected, then he might be justified by God. Who knows? Then any disrespectful attitude from the people toward the President would not be right.

The kingdom of God is the ideal world where goodness alone dominates. That is to say, it is where people exalt and respect those who serve others. At the time of the human fall, the archangel dominated Eve and Eve dominated Adam, while the order should have been the other way around. Each wanted to utilize the other centered on their own interests; this was the beginning of evil. Thus, in the fallen world, fighting between individuals and wars between nations have continued. Wars have continued because the defeated nations or people always wanted to restore what they lost.

Have you ever stopped to think in what way should do things in the Unification Church? Members of the Unification Church believe that only we can save the world. We know clearly that our church will develop and expand to cover the whole world with love and goodness. Our motto, as you know, is "With the heart of the parents, in the shoes of the servant, let us shed tears for mankind, sweat for the earth and blood for heaven." Are those simple words? Have you ever tried hard to put that into practice? Would there be any "I" there, which is ego?

No ego is possible there. It means we have to be the incarnation of parental love towards mankind. If we practice parental love towards mankind, serving them as a servant would then we should never regret shedding tears, sweat and blood for the sake of mankind, giving out our whole being. If we do this, we will not have done it in vain, because there will be many people appreciating it and following the its' example. In studying or in witnessing to the people, if we do that with the concept that we are going to be famous or appreciated by people, then it is already bad.

In speaking of success would you want to be successful now or later? I would rather reserve success to the end, because if you succeed now, it will be a small success, while later it would grow to be a success of greater dimension. More than that, if you succeed now you are apt to be arrogant, and contented, you will never struggle on. Then your success will end as success centered on yourself. Should your success be self-centered, or centered on others?

In the history of mankind we have seen without exception that just as a nation enjoyed its prime, it would begin to fall and decline. America is not an exception. The United States is proud of being the leading nation of the world, but it cannot go for eternity. You must know that your nation is blessed by God not for the sake of yourselves but for the sake of the world.

If there is any way at all for your people to keep your blessing, it is for you to think that the success of your nation is not for yourselves but for the benefit of the world. You must not only think that way but you must act that way and do things for the benefit of other nations. Then your success will not remain where it is but will be multiplied until it will cover the whole world to save mankind.

You must think that today's success is the training and preparation for tomorrow's bigger success. For most people success is for self-benefit and so they cling to it, never sharing with others. They are apt to enjoy their success-- never working harder. This is a totally wrong idea, because they could not have had success without the aid of others; so it does not belong to them alone but to others too.

If you feel like being proud of yourself, you must first be proud of God and mankind who made your success possible. Then your success can be justified. When you are successful you must turn to God and say, "Oh Father, but for your help, I could not have been successful." And turning to mankind you must say, "I could not have done it by myself."

So your success belongs to God and to mankind. Then both God and people around you will be pleased and will have you enjoy it. They will think you are a wonderful person entitled to success. If you have this attitude, succeeding will not end there, but you will have still greater success in the coming days. But if you are boastful then success will end there.

When you think of yourselves, have you lived your lives with that attitude? If not, you must realize that you are not entitled to whatever you have attained. So, bear in mind that your success must always be returned to God and to mankind, always serving others with God-centered love without any complaint or regret, to the end. Then, you are going to be qualified for victory.

You must always put yourself in the position of object to God as the Subject, and to other people as another subject, and be ready to love and serve them. Then they in turn will love you and would be willing to let you enjoy successes and victories. Jesus, too, though he died on the cross for mankind, looked like a failure at that time, but history has proven that he was a success because his ideal and deeds remained alive in human hearts -- causing Christianity to develop as it has.

Therefore, if you sacrifice yourself for the sake of others, you are already successful even though it may seem that you are a failure. There is room for you to rise again for bigger success. If you may have to fail once, twice or even a hundred times, there is still room for you to succeed if and when you do things for God and for others. Such a person will be helped by heaven and earth until he attains victory. But those who struggle and do things for the sake of themselves, their accomplishment will be ephemeral and limited.

Which kind of success would you choose? You know too well. We must re-evaluate ourselves according to this standard. I know that among the Unification Church members there are some who would say, "I have been in the church so long, and what has become of me? If I am going to die like this, what will be left behind me? Don't I look more miserable than when I was in the world 10 years ago?"

Is this a good way of thinking or a bad way of thinking? Don't ever think that way. However hard a situation you are in and however miserable you may look, and even though you may be on the verge of death, your sacrifice will be justified by God and you must be sure you are doing this for God's will and for the sake of mankind.

When you are on the edge of defeat, without your realizing it, reinforcements are being sent by God to rescue you. On the spiritual level myriads of saints will come to save you, while even on the physical level, people's minds are on your side supporting you even without their being conscious of it.

In movies you have seen many such instances. Suppose there is a patriot who is captive in an enemy camp. After severe torture, he is at last about to be shot to death. Without his knowing it, reinforcements are coming to his rescue. His last chance to be saved was when he was asked to help the enemy against his own nation, to save his own life.

If he had been cowardly and said "yes," when the reinforcements came to save him, he would have been put to shame. But, if he should say, "I have lived for my country and I want to die for my country," then the reinforcements will praise him and the whole nation will exalt him and leave his name in the nation's history.

In a way you are fighting in this kind of battle for the will of God. Billions of spirit men are mobilized on our side. Have you ever thought of that? How wonderful it is to know that because of one individual like you, the whole spirit world is mobilized. Suppose that there is just one more peak to cross over, and then there will be a paved highway where you can reach out and gain the support of all mankind. If you are frustrated on the way, at the threshold of victory, how pitiful it will be in the end.

So, you must know that you are not fighting alone, but with companions on the spiritual level as well as on the physical level. Therefore, even though the battle looks unfavorable, the next moment it can turn out to be a victory. If you fight on with readiness to sacrifice yourself, so much help will come from above and around you. How wonderful our battle is!

Those who begin things with good motivation must never vacillate but carry it through to the end. How much more would it be so when the matter is centered on God's will! The beginning and end, alpha and omega, must meet. God will find the world through us and the world will find God through us. God and the world will meet through us. On the vertical level, God will connect with us, and on the horizontal level individuals will connect families, tribes, nations and finally the whole world.

Satan tends to take the offensive while heaven in on the defensive. The time for victory for the heavenly side comes at the end of the battle. It is too early and even dangerous for us to be boastful; and it is safe for us always to be humble and steadfast. At the end we can be proud of our victory, and it will be yours for eternity.

It is characteristic of the satanic world that people are always proud of themselves and boastful of what they have done. They always initiate battles, but in the end, the victory will be for the heavenly side, where people have always been attacked. In humbleness and with strenuous effort, we will finally defeat the enemy who is over-confident.

On the Godly side, people defeat the satanic side while serving others centered on divine love. If you are ready to give your lives for the great cause, you can win the minds of the people, which is real victory on the side of righteousness. This is the standard of goodness. If we go on like this, any opposition or persecution is nothing. We can be sure that before long, everyone will come to our side.

My words will prove to be true. Otherwise there is no God. As long as there is God, our will united with God's will can be realized. God's will is not for America alone, or for any one nation. We know it is for the whole world and for all mankind. That's why we are here, transcending racial, national, and religious boundaries. We are here for training -- in preparation for the coming battle -- to advance forward to the end of the world.

We must long for and love the kingdom of God more than we do our own nations. In the love of the kingdom of God and its people, we must serve the people by sacrificing ourselves. This alone can bring us victory and erect the Kingdom of God on Earth. We must restore the relationship of love between God and man.

In order to be loved by God, we must first love our brothers and having united with them, come back to God's bosom and be loved by Him. That is to say, by our winning over the Cains of this world and returning them to God, We will make God happy and can really enjoy a rest after a long struggle. This is the way we should live to be as filial sons of God. We must know that this is the true way of life.

If we are in a strong love relationship with God, no other power whatsoever can sever our relationship. By our doing this alone, can we build the Kingdom of God on Earth where peace, happiness and the ideal can prevail. There is no other way possible for us to build the kingdom. In the kingdom we are going to be the first citizens under God, our Lord and everlasting Father. Thus, good and evil starting at the same point will end in the victory of righteousness. Everything dark and negative will be eliminated, goodness alone dominating. Then the world of God's original intention will start right there.

God has never once been frustrated or exhausted in the long, long battle against Satan. He could fight the battle only through us. So we as His children must resemble Him by following his example, never getting frustrated or exhausted, fighting through to the end until we win the final victory. Now we are going to march forward to the battlefield of the whole world with the United States as our base. I want you to go through this training with a strong sense of mission, and perfectly prepare yourself for the coming battle.

I am sure everyone here wants to become an important person. An "important person" means the central person in a group, one whose standard is above the average. In order to be a person like this, one must be higher, deeper and wider in many aspects than other people. Before we can set up a standard for comparison, we must be able to distinguish between what is perfect and what is imperfect. Then we will determine specifically in what aspect one must be better than others in order to be an important person.

Man has five physical senses. To be an important person, one must be more sensitive in seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling and touching. He must be more sympathetic and understanding of other people than the average person. He must be better in his conduct than others. In what way can we become better than average in all these ways? This person must not look at things, listen to things, speak of things, or act on things carelessly.

He must be prudent in every action in order to excel. When he looks at things, he must be able to gain something positive from them. In reading books or in listening to music or in speaking, we must train ourselves in order to surpass others. For us to act naturally in accordance with the environment, we must have rich experiences. The same thing applies to the way we think about things. In order for us to train ourselves, we must be able to enrich our minds through meditation and prayer.

In order to become an important person, you must reach the standard of an expert in many fields by going through repeated training. That is, we cannot become such people unless we go beyond others in doing many things. After repeated practice, we become confident and capable. Practice alone can make us capable; then each one of us can become expert. In our everyday life we must always train ourselves to look at things, hear things, talk about things, and act on things in a constructive way.

Our life is, after all, an arena of training. Whether or not a man's life is full of things helpful to humanity in accordance with the purpose of life God has set before us will decide the position of this man in comparison to others. To help humanity takes practice and training. Therefore, we must be able to see things which ordinary people can't, hear things which ordinary people can't, act on things which ordinary people can't and think about things which never even enter the minds of ordinary people. Then, we are no doubt going to be important and wonderful persons.

How many such people one group contains will determine its importance above other groups. How many such people a nation has will determine whether or not it is a nation of more importance than any other nation in the world. I am contemplating how to make such important persons out of you in order for us, as a group, to influence the world. It is true that you want to become important persons, and our church wants to train you to be those very persons who will be the most capable of all.

For that I want you to go through multifaceted training, so that you will become versatile persons confident in everything. I want to train you to see things which others can't. I want to train you to hear things which others can't. I must train you to say things when others can't and I must train you to think of things which others can't. And, more than anything else, I want to train you to act on things in a way which nobody else can. If you cannot put into practice what you have been taught, you are going to be a failure.

I want to make you into people who will never retreat, even in face of difficulties, in any field of life. However well equipped you are after good training, once you retreat, you are going to be a failure. You must be able to digest and overcome every difficult problem, and ever advancing forward, you must prove your capability. When you take on an important responsibility in a group and successfully solve problems for other people, then the whole group will recognize you as the central figure.

You are here going through this training in a good environment where you can learn to see things, hear things, think of things, and say things in the new and best way. What we learn here is complicated. So, the way we think is complicated too. Is it bad to be so complicated? If complexity has well-organized consistency, it is precious.

When we look at all things, the more complicated their structures are the more beautiful or valuable we regard them to be. An important person must have the capability of manipulating complicated organizations and complicated personnel. In order for us to become important persons, we must be capable of digesting a complex environment and putting it into proper order.

Therefore I must train you in as many ways as possible by putting you in complicated environments. What we learn through the five senses becomes our knowledge. When we gain knowledge, we want to put it into practice. How big an influence you can have, how many-sided an influence you can have, how cubic or horizontal an influence you can have, will determine how important a person you will become.

We are now living in a civilized world, with the utmost in scientific achievements. When technology governs the manufacture of things, you use the division of labor, forgetting about the value of the work itself. This is the phenomenon occurring in the 20th century. We are apt to forget that every part exists for the purpose of the whole.

It is always a problem to connect the smaller parts to make the whole. If an individual cannot recognize that he belongs to the public and not to himself, he can never find a happy place where he can live in harmony with others. The general attitude of people living on earth now is so individualistic that they don't try to seek happiness with other people, and they entirely forget the whole.

There is a vast difference between the attitude of people who seek happiness for themselves and those who seek happiness for the sake of the whole. Most people have lived by sacrificing their environment for the sake of their own individual happiness. But we come to the conclusion that we must sacrifice ourselves -- instead of sacrificing the environment -- to make the whole of humanity, of which we are parts, happy.

Our way of thinking is entirely different from others'. Centering on our family, too, we must think of it as belonging to the world instead of to ourselves. You cannot be really happy if only your family is happy, and others are unhappy. In other words, you feel real happiness centered on your family when other families around you are made happy by yours. The same is true with a nation. A nation is doomed to fall if she thinks of her own interests without minding the interests of the other countries around her. If any nation is going to prosper she must be ready to share her prosperity with other nations. Any nation cannot exist ignoring the world.

As individuals we cannot think of the world of mind and the world of body separately. According to the Principle, we know that our mind and body correlate to each other. You must bring your mind and body into a harmonious oneness. The value of your personality will be determined by the number of people you can be harmonized with.

In order for you to become an important person, and for yours to become an important family, tribe and nation, you should strongly take the initiative in becoming harmonized with other such units -- even in complicated circumstances. If you are so selfish as not to think about other people and your environment, you will be left alone in the end.

There will be no one who cares about you. In that way you will draw yourself into despair and self-ruin. Therefore, individualism is very dangerous. In this age of science where people have become so analytical and put more stress on partial values, individualism has developed. We must think that we can live because our nation protects us.

We must think that we can live because our families are protecting us. You must think that you can live because your spouse is protecting you. In order to revolutionize this world we must be able to remove the concept of "I" as the principal being. Personality revolution starts from this point. The revolution must start right here-right now! If we strive on like this, great victory will be ours.

Our eyes have been seeing things in the wrong way, so we must deny all that we have seen and look at things from new and different angles. Our ears, too, have been hearing only things that will benefit us as individuals, so we must deny all those things and hear things from new and different angles. Our tongues have been saying things in defense of ourselves as individuals, so we must deny all those things and be able to speak for the benefit of other people as a whole.

We have been thinking of only ourselves as individuals, but we must revolutionize our way of thinking and think in terms of other people. Our way of acting for the benefit of ourselves alone must be corrected too. Only by revolutionizing all those things in ourselves can we become the central figures important to others. Why are we gathered here?

We must know that we are here to revolutionize ourselves before being able to revolutionize our nation and the world. We must put more value on other people than on ourselves, and be ready to sacrifice ourselves. This is exactly opposite to what mankind has been pursuing. However difficult it may be, we must pour out our desperate efforts to revolutionize ourselves like this. Otherwise, there can be no hope for the humanity which is now in despair and in darkness.

Jesus came to the earth for this purpose; and we are here for the same purpose. Isn't that true? We must give up ourselves -- that is, we must deny ourselves before being able to live as a central figure of utmost importance. The idea of individualism has caused corruption and ruin in human society, so only by going in the opposite direction can we find the true way of life.

This is exactly what Jesus meant when he said, "If you want to lose your life, you preserve your life; and if you want to gain your life, you will lose it." He wanted to revolutionize the world in which people were so self-centered as to think only of themselves without minding other people. Nobody likes self-centered, arrogant people. If one is so humble as to exalt others, he is liked by everybody. We are faced with the problem of how mankind, in these latter days, can remove the liability to judgment. There is only one way possible. That is, we must be able to revolutionize the idea of individualism into altruism. This is the most important thing.

Now I imagine you have learned the only way to erect the new ideal world. Could that be the self-centered way or is it the altruistic way? The altruistic way alone can reanimate and revitalize the world. Without this being done, we cannot build the new world. We must abandon the way of thinking, "I eat for the sake of myself, I sleep for the sake of myself, I learn for the sake of myself, and I do anything and everything for the sake of myself."

How can we remove the "I" concept? If you put the ultimate emphasis on yourself, you will always be faced with fighting and quarrelling. You must have the idea of, "I am for you, I am for all." You must think, "I am born for the sake of my parents, I am born for you and for the sake of all." If you want to become the central figure of ultimate importance, the short-cut is to shift your self-centered idea into an altruistic one.

Take the example of myself: If I were selfish and self-centered, what would I have to do with you? From my part, too, if I were self-centered, I wouldn't try so hard to push you like this. I have enough things for my livelihood. I can easily get what I want. But here I am going through hardships, having to bring in money in order to spend it for you.

Here we have members from many nations: Germany, France, England, Italy, Austria, Holland, and so on. What am I going to do with them here? I am going to utilize them for humanity and for the whole world. When you look at a German boy, you must not think that he has German eyes, a German nose, German ears, etc. You must not look at our members as being German, French, or Italian.

We must first of all look at them as being the loving children of God. In this relationship alone can we entertain the idea of true brotherhood under God as our Father and under the True Parents as His representatives. Then we can overcome the delicate and complicated situations that exist among nations and melt ourselves into oneness as brothers and sisters, thus developing our valuable human character.

Living with you here, I am often faced with an awkward situation. Sometimes I speak freely to attentive Korean members, for quite a while; but all of a sudden I find you people sitting there with blank expressions and blinking eyes not being able to understand me. That's why I am desperate in studying English. By studying your language I want to reduce your painstaking effort to understand what I say.

The language barrier is the greatest obstacle in unifying the whole world into one. The people of the world should one day assemble and decide upon which language all people should use. As to which language that should be, you here all know this. You would want to use the language of the nation of your most beloved ones, wouldn't you?

According to the Principle that language must be the language used by your True Parents and your true brothers and sisters. That language is going to be used in the Kingdom of Heaven for eternity. What language would God want you to speak? It must be the language which God had to use to make Himself understood by His most beloved one. That is, God would want to use the language of the True Parents who have nothing to do with the fall and sin.

Everything starts from love or by the persons who truly love each other -- namely, true couples, true brothers and sisters, a true family. In a world like that all mankind will enjoy a common way of life with a common culture and civilization entirely different from what we used to have. When a person is asked, "What would make you the happiest person in the world?" he would immediately answer, "To have a spouse whom I can really love, and who really loves me."

If you are with the person whom you love most, you feel like giving anything and everything you own to that person, and you would think and say that everything that is yours belongs to that person, too. Or you would even think of that person without thought for yourself, because before the person whom you love most you must absolutely and completely throw away self-centeredness. You must and you can do this.

Would anyone want the person he loves to say to him, "I love you, but no more than myself." Or, would you rather he said to you that he loves you more than he loves himself? Which of the two would you prefer? When you are in love with someone, would you want him to think of himself first or you first? The answer is too clear! You would like him not to think of himself. Do you want to receive perfect love? Then you must totally deny yourself in loving that person.

If you really believe in that kind of love and you really practice that kind of love between parents and children, brother and sister, husband and wife, without thinking of yourself or your possessions, your love will be perfect and lasting. You cannot deny that ideal love will start and will last for eternity when you think and do things for the sake of the other person and humanity as a whole. If you are sure that your mate feels true love for you, would you hesitate to deny yourself for his sake? You would not feel any reservations about it.

Now we have learned that to deny one's self and to sacrifice one's self is the primary way to receive love from others. What kinds of people are called patriots in your country? Those are the people who would abandon their lives for the love of their nation. The sons and daughters who sacrifice themselves for love of their parents are called children of filial piety. The parents who would sacrifice themselves for love of their children are called true parents. The brothers who sacrifice themselves for the sake of their brothers are called true brothers.

Those who sacrifice themselves for the sake of all humanity can be called true men. Jesus was the man who sacrificed himself for humanity. Jesus was the first one who was awakened to the fact that he had to die for the sake of God, God's nation and God's people. Therefore, people admire Jesus, and God loves him. Both God's love and true human love were revealed through Jesus. A new world made its start through Jesus.

Self-centeredness cannot bring about anything ideal. The ideal can be realized when people do good for the whole. If what we take delight in makes others feel grief, then we are not good. When you rejoice with others, your spirit will whirl around in every direction -- you will feel ecstasy. We have learned that in order for us to become important persons, we must not be self-centered but altruistic. When we do things for other people, we do things out of our love and not seeking our own knowledge, position or wealth. It is desirable that we use our knowledge, position and wealth out of our love of people.

As you see. Western people and Oriental people are different in many ways. Their complexions, the color of their hair and their eyes are all different. How can you expect an Oriental man like myself to love you more than his own people? Would you expect me to love the enemy more than my own country? When we know that Communists are our enemy, should we kill them or leave them?

The evil nature of Communism must be hated, but we must love the man, even though he is a Communist. In that way we must be more than what they are. We must surpass them in seeing, hearing, thinking and acting. In that way we must be able to inspire them and let them know what we are and what we have so that they will come to our side. We are responsible to teach them to compare and to choose the better way.

Unification Church members must be prepared even to marry the highest Communist staff members in the future. That is, we must be ready to marry even an enemy. Japan and Korea were enemy nations; Japan and the United States were the same. But I want to put these enemy nations into harmonious oneness.

Centered on our ideology, Korea, Japan and the United States are on the way to becoming one, transcending national boundaries. Suppose there are two Japanese, two Koreans and two Americans traveling and three of them had to die. Which three would the others choose to die? Don't you think they would all choose those whom they felt to be more of an enemy to them?

This is how it is with us. For example, I as an Oriental man would want to have Japanese members sacrifice themselves for the sake of American members. Centered on myself, Japanese members and Korean members have so far gone through more difficulties than you American members. My intention now is to bring Korean and Japanese members to America to have them go through more difficulties than you.

Suppose Japan and the United States declare war against each other? We must transcend nationalities. There are no differences of nationalities in our group. Even in the case of war you must love Japanese members, though others may call you traitor or pro-Japanese because of it. You are right in what you do and you must be proud of it.

Would you abandon the vast number of American people in the outside world for a small number of Japanese members of our movement, or the other way around? Though we may be small in number, if we are united against evil, the world will be revolutionized and the new history will begin, centered on us.

We are an international group. Are we simple or complicated? Do you think our group is so complicated that there is no possibility for unity? Even though our backgrounds are so different, we know we can be united in harmonious oneness. Isn't it worthwhile for us to try to do this?

Suppose there are an Englishman, a German and a Frenchman living in the same room and not able to understand each other's languages. Then, what will happen? They are compelled to become deaf and dumb. But they cannot go on for long like this; they must begin to communicate even if by gestures or motioning. Then they will be amused at each other and can smile and laugh; and their hearts can be melted into oneness.

Isn't that true? Suppose there are an Oriental and an Occidental living together -- the former eating rice and the latter, bread. Can they always prepare two kinds of food for every meal? Each must concede to the other, deciding to eat Oriental food one meal and Western food for another -- or possibly to have a third dish which they both like, or even to have a dish that is both Oriental and Occidental.

If you love each other and if you are concerned about things of higher dimension and more value then there will be no problem between you. Of the three men, who will be most loved? It is natural for the others to love the one who has done the most painstaking work. In doing this work this person must overcome the unfavorable circumstances without complaint, and be ready to help others by sacrificing himself.

Then this person cannot help but become the central figure and the most important of the three. The German members here must not love only Germans, but they must love America and American members more than their own people, transcending national boundaries. The same thing applies to the French, English, and members from elsewhere.

Through this handful of people working for this country, Americans will come to love Germany, France, England and all the rest. We are here for that purpose. But it is not a simple job. In our movement, we must not have complaints against each other. Digest your complaints with the warmth of love. Won't it be wonderful that, through our people, even national hostilities will be melted away!

You recall that in our last blessing I blessed an Englishman with a German girl, though they were ignorant of each other's languages. Even in speaking words of love, they need an interpreter. How interesting and how wonderful that must be! Each wanted to love the other more. They are an international couple and already a historical one.

However, they may not be a handsome couple. They are the bridge between the two nations, thus opening the gate to reach out to the end of the world. They are already a historically important and great couple. If the couple becomes happier than any other couple, they will be exemplary and their names will remain for later generations.

For this couple, their relationship as husband and wife must be very complicated. At times there must be moments of distress. They must have compared their life to that of other couples around them; to their grandparents and parents and couples among their neighbors and among their friends.

Looking in the mirror, the husband could have said, "I am a pretty handsome man, and I could have married a nice girl from my own nation." And the wife could have thought the same of herself. But they both tried their best to overcome their difficulties by finding the providential meaning of marriage. They have been successful in that. If it were you, could you do this?

I always thought I could marry any woman if by marrying her I could realize the will of God at the soonest possible date. Are you ready for that? [YES!] Are you willing to marry a Negro girl? [YES!] If it is the will of God, could you marry an old woman? I was ready to marry any woman for the sake of God's will, and then He gave me a pretty girl.

If I, from the beginning, had wanted to have a beautiful girl, God would have given me the ugliest one. Here, again, the Bible verse applies: "When you want to gain your life you will lose it; when you want to lose your life, you will preserve it." Those who think they are handsome or beautiful must be ready to have an ugly person as a mate, and be confident to make their family the happiest one.

If you were in the position of parents, would you love only handsome sons and beautiful daughters? Or, would you be more concerned with the ugly or disabled children you might have? It is natural for parents to love handicapped children more. How much more would this be true with God, just as the parents relate in this way to their children? God, too, will be more sympathetic and loving to underprivileged and handicapped children.

The higher position you are in, the greater depth you must have. That means you have to reach out to the lowliest ones too. This is not easy; you cannot do this overnight. What is an ideal family? Do you think a couple is ideal who lives by themselves rather than with their in-laws? You Americans don't seem to like to live with your in-laws. But in our Principle it is more ideal when three generations live together as a family.

Then, wouldn't you love to live with your in-laws? [YES!] Is it more ideal for a group to consist of people of many nationalities or of people of one nationality? You say it is good to live with people of many nationalities, but is this a simple or a complicated life? In order for you to get along well with members from six nations you must have the attitude of loving and doing things for the sake of six nations, at least.

In Jesus' day, even the twelve disciples of the same nationality could not become one. But my mission in the future is to make people from at least twelve nations into one -- or else the world will not have the foundation to be united into one. I am planning in the future to have twelve couples representing twelve nations live together centering on me. At that time, could I tell you I love you more because you are white and you less because you are black? There is no discrimination of color in God's sight, since all are His children.

Which would be more ideal, for twelve families to live together or 120 families to live together? Or, for 1,200 families to live together? The bigger and more complicated it becomes, the more ideal it can become when well organized. Then would the simple life be better than the complex life? Just imagine, is God leading a complicated life or a simple life?

God is leading the most complicated life in the whole universe. Then you must be ready to live the most complicated life in the whole world before being able to become God's children. God never has a moment of relaxation unless His children do their part in good order. If God were a self-centered Being, He would feel like escaping from His children.

However, God is giving away His whole Being for the sake of His children, without thinking or caring about Himself. He chooses a more complicated life for love of the whole. God is a God of love, and His love is infinite and limitless. God is, in a way, looking for misery because He is seeking His children who are living in misery.

We must resemble God as His children. God is for everyone and all people, and He moves with the ardor of love in every direction to reach out to the world. That's what makes Him the central Being. It is because He is the central Being that everyone longs for Him and loves Him.

How is it with our group? Do you love me? Can you say that with confidence? Even a small handkerchief, when it belongs to your loved one, has a great sentimental value. If you find any person who is in love with your handkerchief because it belongs to you, wouldn't you feel attached to that person? Would you call him mad and hate him? No!

If you really love me, you must find out what I love and whom I love. I love altruism; I love all humanity and the entire universe therein. More than anyone else, I love God. If you love me, you must do the same. If I have hatred at all, that is hatred toward Satan, and I want to conquer the satanic world. If you really love me you must do the same and hate Satan, and join in the effort to conquer the satanic world. That is how to love me and how to receive my love.

God created Adam and Eve in His own image and likeness. If you call me your True Parents, you must assume my image and likeness. If you are going to be central persons of importance, you must have God's love as the core of all things. Love does not seek reward. When you go out to the frontline and you calculate that you want to be the State Representative or Mobile Unit Commander after hard work, then you cannot be justified by God.

With that way of thinking, you can never gain the goal or become an important person, because it is a self-centered attitude beginning with yourself and ending with yourself. But by reaching out to many people in all directions, you will have a wider range with yourself as the figure of central importance. Self-centered people confine themselves in a limited area, but for those who live for the sake of other people, their world is limitless.

The more important and the more valuable a purpose you have in your life, the more complicated your life becomes -- with more width, breadth and depth. If you are going to be the central figure or the leader of a number of people, you must serve them rather than be served by them. You must train yourself to work hard and give the credit to other people before being able to have many people under you or around you.

I want you American people to go the opposite way to what you have gone up to today. If well on the way you find this to be the wrong path, what will you do? Retreat? Turn away? I want you to make sure that it is the right way before you begin. Are you sure it is the right way? [YES!] We know that America in on the decline, and we want to save this nation from ruin. By our doing this, we can defend this nation from the evil power.

America has many problems: juvenile delinquency, racial discrimination, and the threat of Communist infiltration, to name only a few. The problem of juvenile delinquency is serious because the corruption of the young people means destruction of the future of America. We are ready to take responsibility for the solution to this problem. In order to do this there will be many difficulties, but only by overcoming these can we pave the way and make it straight.

This is going to be a real battle. We must take less time to rest, less time to sleep and less time to enjoy ourselves than other people. Who else can carry out this mission but ourselves? No one but those who really love America and who are ready to love her for eternity can do the job. Right from the beginning, if you really mean to do things for the sake of other people and for the sake of the whole, you must be ready to take the heaviest responsibility on your shoulders and leave easier things to others. You must be persevering with this difficult task which lies ahead of you.

What if it should take us ten years? What if it should take us twenty years to carry out the mission? What if it should take us forty years to realize God's will? What if we have to hand the mission over to the next generation? You must be the true parents who can educate your children in preparation for such a mission. We will take up the work which other people hate to do, and which they can never do. In this way, as time goes by the world will turn the other way around. Those who are trampled underfoot will rise above the level of those who did the trampling.

We may be without knowledge; we may be without power; we many be without the wealth which is now governing the world. Then with what can we win the world? We can do it with love alone. Our love is not the kind enjoyed by the worldly people. Ours is a revolutionary love that is full of adventure. In the world where people hate to go through adventure, we will fight with the weapon of love.

What we gain as the spoils will be more than knowledge, more than position, more than wealth. People will witness this and it will make them want to come and join us. As the incarnation of God's love we can realize this, while America and her people cannot do it. We must stand in the vanguard of others for the ideal of love to be realized in the world. Love alone is our armament.

We are like David before Goliath. David was without knowledge, without position, without wealth, but he dared to seek adventure with faith in God and for love of people. Then God could not but help him to succeed in his mission. We are only a small group before the giant bloc of the Communist people, who occupy half of the whole population of the world. And this is a great challenge for us. In a way, we have declared war against the evil power in the democratic world too. How to realize God's love is the only question.

When our movement is known over the world, it will stir up the world. You must be able to play the role of a farmer when you are in the fields, laborer when you are in the factory and office worker in the office, so that you can really love any type of people in any walk of life. Centered on that love, we will love individuals, families, nations and the world.

For this, training is needed. The evil power is so deeply entrenched that we must do our best desperately to annihilate that power, risking anything. We must stop the flow of the sinful history which is carrying us to ruin. Will you march forward or retreat? In order for us to overcome the obstacles we must march forward even though we may die on the way.

We must forget ourselves and live only to love others and mind the environment. Without this attitude we cannot overcome our surroundings, where anything can happen at any moment. We must be ready to tackle anything of any description, without being particular about our likes and dislikes.

From the year 1972 when I began my project in this nation, I knew many difficulties were coming. I was ready even to be imprisoned. Whatever may happen, I cannot retreat. Have you ever thought this much for the sake of your country? If you want to avoid prison life, you must train yourself to live in a way that is more difficult than prison. Then you can be exempt from prison life.

I must help you get over the obstacles by pushing you harshly. Are you determined to go ahead, never retreating? Am I driving you hard for my own success or for the sake of America? If it is for my sake, you can stop doing it right now. If you really think I am doing this for the sake of the nation, you must humbly accept it and follow me. Therefore, no complaint is possible here.

I have never once complained in the course of restoration. I have had many good reasons to complain and say for example, "If God really loves me, how can He put me through such difficulties and torture in prison life?" But I knew that in that way God was going to give me more grace -- more love.

The more complicated and difficult it becomes on the way you go in search of love, the stronger and brighter the love becomes -- not weakened and faded. When the degree and scope of difficulties of what you are doing is expanded, your efforts to overcome them will be fruitful -- just as after the toil of summer months, the plants are fruitful in the fall.

Don't be discouraged when you go through great difficulties. Your success will be measured in proportion to the degree of difficulties which you go through. In the summer months, if you've toiled very hard, working on your crops, the harvest will be more bountiful. If you work with this kind of heart and attitude, you can never be exhausted.

I hear people saying that I am a man of iron. I have my secret and a knack of keeping going like this. A few days ago I went to Richmond -- which is a 13 hours drive from here. Do you know what I did? I prepared myself thinking that it would be three times as great a distance. Then when the destination was reached, I thought, "Oh, we've arrived already!"

In this way any distance is easy to overcome. One more thing is that I don't allow myself to doze off in the car. I take interest in looking at the scenery along the road. I imagine myself dashing along the road set by God. Then I immediately think, "I must work in this land where the people are so blind and unknowing. How much more God has to worry and help me!"

I feel suddenly deep sympathy for God. Then I can enjoy the drive even though I am tired. More grace comes, and I feel my spirit renewed with more spiritual power; and I want to go even farther when I am at the destination. I forget fatigue. If you are hungry, don't complain that you are hungry -- be ready to go through even more hunger.

Then you will not be hungry any more. When you are tortured in prison, you must get over it by imagining that more torture is to come, and think that by being tortured you can conquer the world. Only those who have overcome their circumstances with this kind of resolution can understand this.

It is past 8:00 and those who thought Master would speak only until 8:00 are beginning to feel restless. Those who expect to work ten hours and who have to work twenty hours will not be able to endure it when asked to work longer; but those who expect to work 24 hours and just have to work 20, will feel easy.

In North Korea under Soviet Communists, I went through a torture of being forced to stay awake for one week. I endured it by thinking, "Let's see who will be the winner -- my torturers or I." If an ordinary man were forced to stay awake for one week, he would fall asleep even while speaking. I can sleep with my eyes wide open. I trained myself to do that in my prison days. I often utilize that method when I am too sleepy.

When I experienced severe pain and became black and blue from torture in the prison, I would cure myself by a certain exercise, which I also use when I am very tired. Even now, I can keep going even with only one hour's sleep every day. If I were to try to train you all now in that way, you would all want to escape from me. I can speak twenty hours a day every day for a month in succession. From the beginning of a speech, I don't have a concept of a time limit on how long to speak.

Now you are meeting God, who has longed to meet you for 2,000 years. Can your conversation be limited to an hour? The message I receive from Him, I want to convey to you in my talk. I always think that I can spend day and night with God, and I am ready to spend any amount of time with Him, working together with Him.

Could you tell your loved one not to call during the night? I want to train you in such a way that you can be mobilized any time, day or night, whenever I call. I may not feed you properly or give you proper sleep. Even then, you cannot afford to complain. The amount of time you have spent with a person and worked with a person will decide how close he is to you.

You must know that in order to become important persons you must be able to inspire people with God's love, and help them to harmonize with each other with you as the bridge between them. Here again, you need training in many areas. In proportion to how much time and energy you put into it, you will be more or less well trained.

How many here have not gone through one week's fasting? All of you must do that. In order for you to carry out God's will, you may have to stay awake many nights in prayer. Yes, it's absolutely necessary! Everything goes step by step to reach the ideal standard. You European members are lucky that you have come to America to be trained. But what if I sent you to the southern tip of Africa for training? Are you willing to go there? [YES!]

In the army you are forced to go wherever you are stationed even though you are reluctant to go there. Here I don't force you to go, but you must be willing to go. Just imagine, would you be happier to meet me in Africa? What would make you happier: to meet me with many other people in America or to meet me in remote Africa after having been so far away from me, missing me all the time? If I should meet you in the jungle where only wild animals are roaming about, we would embrace each other in utmost joy.

Would you rather meet God when you are happy or when you are lonely? How wonderful it must be to meet God when you are in a difficult and lonely situation, where you are badly in need of Him! It is still better if you can say to Him, "Don't worry about me, I am all right and I can take care of myself and my problems without your help. Why don't you get some rest?"

If you pray to God for help to meet twenty people today, while you only met ten people yesterday, that kind of greed in prayer can be justified. Don't ever pray to God that you meet fewer people than the day before because you couldn't handle all those people. Prayers are only answered to those who try their best to fulfill what they prayed for.

Prayers will help strengthen you to prepare for the goal you want to attain. When a person who has fulfilled 20 percent of his goal prays to God to help him to fulfill 100%, God will be ready to help him and Satan cannot accuse him. You need prayer and God's cooperation when you want to pour out more energy, more effort and more sacrifices. Otherwise your prayer will not be justified by God and it will result in corruption and ruin.

I am a man of such disposition that once I start doing things I will never rest until I completely carry them out. For instance, even in my childhood, when I was curious to see what was behind the mountain, I would go there at all costs to see what was behind the mountain. God seems to like this kind of person. In the year 1965 when I made my first world tour, I wanted to cover 48 states of the United States and I did it in 40 days.

Then, I visited everywhere I wanted to visit. At that time I visited 40 countries in haste, blessing the holy grounds in 120 places. Now that you are here for training, you have a little leisure time for yourselves, but I will not allow you to have such time on the frontline. If you want to be a great and important person, you must not draw a line of limitation for yourselves -- a line that limits how much you carry out. You must do your best, never thinking there is a limit to your capabilities. You must cling to God at the risk of your life; and He has got to help you.

In order for me to come to this point, I have had to do many things at the risk of my life. It is natural that victory and success will not belong to those who do things without risking their lives. If you are drowsy, poke yourself with a needle. It is possible that in the moment you doze off, the tower you have built up will be torn down.

You must train yourself in such a way that you can resist seeing things that you badly want to see, hearing things when you really want to hear them, or sleeping when you are in need of sleep. You must train yourself to be a good listener, twelve hours, twenty hours or even a year. But then, you must have the confidence that as soon as a speaker stops speaking, he will be yours and you can occupy his mind.

As you see, I have small hands, but with these small hands I have done practically everything possible. When you are studying, I want you to study all through the night; but when you have the time to play do it thoroughly. Even though a person may love to play, I would play so enthusiastically with him and with such boundless energy that in the end he would give up and beg me to let him sleep.

It is a common practice for me to stay up the whole night doing things. I used to take even women members to the steep mountains for physical training by hunting wild boar. If they pressed me to go back, I would purposely stay another night -- meaning to train them. If they asked me to continue, then I am reassured of their conviction and would stop.

Everything I do to you is to train you. Do you like this idea? How do you like nine hours of lecture every day? You may complain and say that it is summer and you need air conditioning, but I am deaf to your pleas. If I were to be so generous as to install air conditioning for you, then how would you be able to endure life in southern Africa where there is no air conditioning despite the heat? Here is how to overcome the heat: It is hot now, but in only a few months it will become so cold that you will miss this warm weather. Imagine that you must be trained now to endure the heat, and after some months training you will be rewarded with cold weather.

If you endure the environment and digest hardships only as much as other people do, then how can you be greater than they? Because of my age, I know I cannot see as well as I used to. But sometimes I am compelled to read without my eyeglasses. And do you know what I do? For the first few minutes everything is blurry and I cannot see too well, but in the next moment my gaze is fixed and the letters become clear. Once my eyes are well focused, I can read without once blinking my eyes. I have trained myself to keep from blinking my eyes for even a hour.

You need training in many aspects and in many ways. You must train yourself to give up and forget the person you love, at the very moment that person betrays you. You must so train yourself that at the time of failure, you can immediately go back to the starting point again. Your once beloved one can betray you and become your enemy. In that case you must be able to part from him without shedding even a single tear.

Who can decide that what you have done is a success? There is always room for greater success, or a higher standard of accomplishment. Don't ever be satisfied with what you have gained. You must be everlasting ambitious. Until we crush the last Satan of the evil world, fight on with high morale, while always training ourselves as I have explained.

You must go through training with this attitude, with great concern for many aspects of many things. You must be grateful every moment -- all through the training course, gladly assuming your share of the responsibilities. Then you will become great and important person.

No matter who you are, you are not born from an act of your own will. From birth to a certain age you don't realize your purpose of life or your role in life. It is not until you reach your adolescent age that you begin to realize y-our purpose in life, think about what kind of life you are going to lead, and learn about the nature of human society as a whole. After going through the stage of adolescence, you enter the prime stage of youth, where your philosophy of life will become fully developed. However, only in old age will your view of life become fully ripened, and your understanding of what life really is become clear.

Any one individual cannot live all alone, centered on himself. In order for us to live,. we need our friends, our family and the neighbors and society around us. Broadening our scope, we can live life on the national level, and finally on the world-wide level. Each man struggles hard to become an important person, and at best a figure of historical importance. Only a few can attain this high goal, while, most others cannot reach this level. Most people pass into the spirit world after their physical death, without being able to attain this goal. This Is the common way of life for all men, and the destiny of humanity.

However, we see many types of people who walk on the path of life. Some go straight forward, some go sideways, some go backwards, while some others go in a zigzag line. The record you make by your life is like lines which are traced behind you. Though you are still young, when you look back to your past, there must have been happy days and unhappy days, easy days and difficult days, and days full of regret. From myself, meaning the viewpoint of your own interest, I'm sure that you have experienced more unhappy days than happy ones, because of the unfavorable environment which exists in the world today. Very likely you are not in the position to be proud of yourself even though you may have confidence in what you do. Nobody can tell what will happen in the next moment. That has been the nature of our destiny as human beings.

In other words, you may go to work in the morning with happy anticipation, but nobody can guarantee your safety throughout the day Even though your office may be nearby, you should not be too confident, because even a short distance from your doorstep, you may have a car accident. Nobody can tell, what our destiny holds in store for us. You can even meet seemingly agreeable people in seemingly agreeable places, but the result is not necessarily good -- it could even bring untold misery to you. Passing the examination may be the goal of people who study hard. But at the very moment that a person finds he has passed the exam, a tragedy could happen. Nobody can tell. Suppose there are a man and a woman who dearly love each other, and they are confident that they are going to live as the most ideal couple in the whole world. But right at the wedding ceremony, something unexpected comes about. From this we can gather that a man can't be too sure of having a bright future. There are many such instances in the world in which we are compelled to go the way opposite to the way we would want to go if we were left to our own choice. We may think that life belongs to us, but we find that we are not always free to run our lives as we wish. That's how it is with human life. After all, we are walking on the path of life without confidence, not knowing what our walk along the path of life may bring to us. We are groping in darkness every day of our lives, in search of a flickering hope which promises to provide something good.

But there are not too many things around us that hold such a promise for goodness. Things are usually the other way around; we find more tragedy than goodness. When is there a place where we can be relaxed and reassured? No one can be relaxed and reassured when he is all alone. You need someone who can at least defend and protect you. Who must that someone be? Your parents may be able to play this role on the external level, protecting you to a certain extent. But they cannot guarantee your life in the face of death. Your teachers cannot take this responsibility; neither can your friends nor your nation with all its power. Suppose the whole world is mobilized to help you, but they cannot take responsibility for your life. Then, who can take the responsibility? We must find someone who can do that. Otherwise we are sure to be insecure and unhappy, even though we want to be happy and relaxed.

As our subject indicates, we want someone to protect us on our way of destiny. Then, what must that someone be like? This one must transcend history; that is, the past, present and the future. He must transcend time and space. Unfortunately, man himself cannot transcend these no matter how great he is. Therefore, we are badly in need of one like that who can take responsibility for our life in faith. Even though we cannot find one like that in human society, we want to make one like that in our imagination and fancy that he will protect us. But if there is really such an entity, how happy we must bet How eager we must be to locate him. The more difficult the environment becomes, the more insecure we become and we ardently set off in search of him. In this situation, unless you endeavor to confirm his existence and enter into a good relationship with him, you can never be assured about your life.

Then what kind of relationship would you want to have between God and yourself? There may be watchers who are our seniors and who can protect us with their position, wealth and knowledge. But it is more desirable that we have someone who would protect us with the warmth of love. If we are going to be protected at all, we want to be protected not just for the time being, but for eternity. Then, who in the world could do that! This is our parents. We need our parents. Next, we need brothers and sisters, and we also need our spouse, then our children. With them, we enjoy the blessedness of our life. But no matter how bright a day may be with other people rejoicing in the blessedness of the environment, if someone we love is on the verge of death, we cannot enjoy all the rest. However happy we may otherwise be, if our loved one is in a tragic situations, we too become unhappy.

When we look at things from this viewpoint, we can enjoy utmost happiness when we are with our loved ones sharing with each other an ideal love to the utmost degree. We don't know where we are bound in our life, just walking on the way not knowing our destination. We are always insecure. Centered on our physical parents, happiness will be mortal. The same thing is true centered on our brothers and sisters, and centered on the married couples. Love with these people may change and even become ephemeral. Then we must look for and find that ideal love which will last for eternity. There seems to be no such love in the world, but we will never stop looking for it. We especially look for the one who will enable the love between parents, love between couples, and love between children to last for eternity, under His protection. That someone must be unchangeable, unique and eternal; that is, God.

Without God as the center point or starting point, we cannot make all these relationships unchangeable and eternal ones. There must be a person with a central mission as the agent of God's love, around whom all these relationships will be restored to their desired form. He must become the mediator between God and man to make that relationship a oneness between Father and son. The relationship must be restored between the parents and the children, between brothers and sisters, between husband and wife, to the original form which God intended at the time of creation. We are in pursuit of this relationship, and to fulfill this relationship is the ultimate destiny of our lives. An ideal relationship of true love cannot be an ephemeral one, but is unchanging, unique and eternal.

As I said before, any relationship of love must exist by the relativity between subject and object. You cannot enjoy love all by yourself. That is to say, everyone needs someone to love and protect them in an ideal environment provided by that person. Then alone can we be really relaxed in an environment which we trust will never change. However hard we may try, we will not find that stability inhuman society. Everything in human society is temporary and changeable. We need someone absolute and unchanging. He must be an omnipotent one. Therefore, throughout history, man has sought to find God through religious belief. In true religion, we should be able to restore, the true relationship between parents and children, brother, and sister, and husband and, wife. With this knowledge, would you want to reach God through the mediator, the one who is the perfect object to God, the perfect subject, or would you want to go straight to God? Which would you prefer? You are far below the standard at which you should be, and so you must go through the way, and the mediator is this way.

In a sense, a religion is the mediator, because every religion teaches about God. You know that God exists, but in what relationship to God would, you want to put yourself? The relationship which is primary and also the most desirable one is the parent child relationship. So, we want to serve God as a parent, with Him in the subject position, and with ourselves in the objective position. Sometimes we want to make God our friend; sometimes we just feel like having him as our brother. In an absolute love, He can be just anything to us. In that love, a father would not complain if his son would rule over him, although he is still in the position of the father. In the relationship of such love, a husband would never complain against his being dominated by his wife and vise versa. Love alone and nothing else makes it possible. Love is the highest law and the sacred bond binding any two or more beings into harmonious oneness. However high in authority or in knowledge or wealth one may be, everyone becomes tender and obedient like lambs when they feel such a love. There is no one in the whole world who would refuse this love or look down upon it.

Is there anyone who is not willing to be dominated by that kind of love? Even God is willing to be dominated by that love, not to speak of man. Love is great. God is the very core of love, which makes Him the greatest of all. Love is the power that motivated God to create man and love alone is what makes God absolute. Centered on love, even the absolute and supreme being is willing to be at the disposal of man who is the incarnation of His love. To such a man, God is the Father who is willing to become everything else for him. God is the Parent of all parents to man. He has the absolute love that would excel the love in any model parents, with which he could dominate all the parents of the world. In fact, God created man from His parental love, without which we become dead.

God is always ready to give us the type of love which is best suited to and most wanted by the person who would want to have a relationship with God. If we wanted parental love from God, He would be prepared with it; if we wanted brotherly love or conjugal love, or the love of a friend from Him, He is ready with these. He is also the symbol and reality of national love and universal love. In our church, we allow people to understand and feel God's love in such a dimension, Isn't it wonderful that the God of love is protecting us in every possible relationship? We, as the incarnation of His love, can in turn protect others and even ourselves along the way of fate, with this power of God's love.

When we pinch ourselves it hurts. But if we are assured manifold benefits after the pain, will we not gladly overcome it? With this confidence, we can dash forward on the path of misery and hardship. Everyone is uneasy and insecure on the way of fate, without knowing what our future has in store for us. If, in this dark situation, we find a light giving us the full and clear picture of where we are bound, how are we going to march forward to the goal where the new world of God centered love and harmony waits for us? Would we not abandon our old way of life and join the new one? Because of the evil entity, Satan we have to make the way smooth and straight by repelling the satanic power as we go along and by building the kingdom of God in our minds and sharing it with our, fellow men. God is the ultimate subjective being, and we as His objects want to work for His sake and ours, and finally locate Him and join Him in perfect oneness.

If we are confident of God's love, we can overcome any difficulty, however bumpy the road may be. The more difficult the road is, the stronger our conviction is that this is the shortcut through which we reach the goal at the earliest possible date. There we can meet God who is anxiously waiting for us, full of blessings to give those who dash forward with all their knowledge and understanding. Once we do this, misery and unhappiness cannot dominate our lives. Through our everyday experience, we know that without love we cannot overcome the miseries on our way of fate.

Let us suppose that a man died through misfortune on the way in his search for the ultimate subjective being. However his death does not mean the end, but the beginning of his life. Then, in the spirit world, this man would tell God that he died in order to live in the spirit world to more fully enjoy God's love. We must be ready to die, but to die with God's love in our hearts. If we imagine that we are going to die in the bosom of God's love, then we do not die a miserable death at all. In this case, a man's death could be of higher value than any other death, because he died with the best attitude. If your wife died long ago, and after you had died this kind of invaluable death you joined her in the spirit world, would she not respect and love you more than she did on earth? If you died for the sake of someone, and that person later comes to the spirit world, would he not love and serve you? Their love in the spirit world must be of higher dimension than their love on the earth.

In the Bible we read many paradoxical things. Jesus said, "If you love me, you must deny yourself and bear the cross and follow me." (Luke 17:33) He also says that "Those who want to gain their life will lose it." These words encourage us to win the love of highest dimension at the cost of everything else. If you love me so much as to die for me, and I meet you later in the spirit world, how happy we will be to see each other. If you truly love someone, you would always gladly die for him. Even though you may die, it will not mean the end, but it means new life. By this kind of sacrificial death, we pass through the toll gate to reach the world of love, which is eternal and of a higher dimension. Then, we are not afraid of love. Are you willing to die that kind of death? When we know what is coming after death, we are happy people, even though we may have to die.

We have all discovered great things. I have gone through untold difficulties, but I am sure I am the happiest man in the whole world -- am I not? I am a happy man because I know how to overcome unhappiness with love. I am the type of person who hates to be sympathized with, but love to sympathize with others, and I feel immense happiness in making others happy. When I want to sympathize with others out of my own accord, can I complain about what I have to do? In this way I can enjoy the real taste of love. When I am sympathized with, I can only taste passive love, which is not what I want.

Some may think that the Unification Church forces us or drives us on the painful way. But I hope most of you can overcome the pain by digesting it with the power of love, because happiness and love are promised at the end of hardships. As our subject indicates, we want someone to protect us on the way of fate. That someone must be God. But even God cannot protect or love us when we don't deserve it -- that is, when we don't set up the condition to receive that love. God is not in need of money, position or knowledge. What He needs is love. And we need that love too, because by true love we can enjoy the privilege of controlling him. If we can do that, we can control our own fate, because we can control God, who controls our fate. God would not leave those who truly love Him on the path of unhappiness and misery. God will help His people to overcome the miseries caused by Satan.

Those who are ardently in love with God can easily overcome unhappiness, because the way of unhappiness will lead them to happiness. When I was in prison in North Korea, I went through severe torture; the more severe the torture was, the stronger I would become. Every cell of mine was mobilized to fight against the pain. I would fancy that with every blow God's blessing would be multiplied. Because of this, I was not afraid of the torture, and I could easily endure it. If we have this attitude, we can make the crooked way straight and the bumpy road smooth. Even though our path of life may be an uneasy, insecure, ephemeral one, full of the misery which is more than death, we know that through God's love for us and our love of God, we can go through the path without difficulty. When we are ready to live and die in the love of God, we deserve God's protection. This is the way every human being has to go through. May God protect us on our way of destiny.

As you know, you are here today to celebrate World Day, or the Day of All Things. We must be proud of being able to celebrate this day even though the people of the world are unaware of this day and its meaning.

Originally, in the process of creation, God made the things of creation first, and then man. Everything had its origin in God. We know that God's intention of creating the universe was for Himself, man, and all the things of creation to have joy together in unity and harmony by forming relationships on a horizontal level. Figuratively speaking, heaven is above, earth below, and man in the middle. Through the Principle, we learn that man is the mediator between the spirit world and the physical world, between heaven and earth. When there is unity among the created things under the dominion of man, God can enter into unity with man and with all the things of creation on the horizontal level.

This was what God wanted, but due to the fall of the first human ancestors, His wish was left unrealized. After all, neither God nor all things alone haw the ability to unite the spirit world and the physical world -- only man can connect the two worlds. It is of primary importance to find a man for the mission of connecting the spirit world and the physical world, which had become separated due to the human fall. When this man is restored, then heaven and all things are restored through man. Without man, heaven and earth lose their meaning.

The Old Testament Age was the age in which man had to offer sacrifices to God. Only through the offering, could man lay the foundation for God, man, and all things to be connected in oneness. In the New Testament Age, our body serves as the offering, instead of the things of the creation. Through the offering, man would make his mind and body into one. Then God's love can come and abide in the person whose mind and body are perfectly one, centered on God. Before establishing World Day, the identity of this person who had reached perfection was a great question; centered on this person, the spirit world and the world of all things of the creation are connected. Man cannot meet this standard of perfection unless his mind and body become one, centered on God.

When we want to center our mind and body on God, we must be centered on God's love as the core. Due to the fall, disunity was brought about between man's mind and body, between man and man, between God and man, and between man and all things. Since the cause of the disunity was fallen love or false love, unity can be brought about only when true love is restored in man. In order to restore the world, we must have a man who has attained perfection by the unity between his mind and body centered on God's love. Then other men must become one with this man of perfection, centered on God's love. This central figure must become the incarnation and resurrection of God's heart and love before he is able to set up the standard of perfection for other men.

Our Unification Church proclaimed the day of the resurrection of heart to commemorate the emergence of this man. Without the resurrection of heart as the foundation, we can never expect to have the resurrection in substance. In order to obtain full resurrection, our mind must become one with God centered on His love, then our body on the horizontal level must become one with our mind which is already one with God. If our body is to become one with our mind which is in the sphere of resurrection, it must go beyond satanic accusation, which has persisted until now. Without our being resurrected in substance centered on God, we cannot connect God's loving heart with other people on the horizontal level. In the year 1960, I publicly proclaimed the resurrection of heart and resurrection in substance as the condition for the appearance of the perfected Adam and Eve. I guess to most of you the, terms, "resurrection of heart" and "resurrection of substance" are entirely new. I will tell you now, how I could set up Parent's Day in the year 1960.

Due to the fall, mankind lost their True Parents. The True Parents had to go through the process of, resurrection by becoming one with God before their, appearance as True Parents in the fallen, world where people are without True Parents. Centered on the True Parents, who were in unity with God's ideal were joined on the horizontal and vertical level in holy matrimony in 1960, after the marriage of the True Parents. For the first time in human history, the True Parents set the standard of true love centered on God. This standard is beyond the degraded standard of love in the fallen world, which was brought about by the fall of the first human ancestors. The immediate children of the True Parents and those who follow them as their spiritual children , have nothing to do with the people of the fallen world., The world is still under, the standard of satanic love, having nothing to do with God's love. Everybody, must have the relationship with God in divine love in order to gain the resurrection of heart.

Through the establishment of Children's Day, the foundation on which we, as the spiritual children, could have a relationship with the True Parents was established. They, in turn, have the special relationship with God in divine love. In order for us to be worthy of Children's Day, we must reach the standard where we can connect ourselves to God in divine love with families marriage in the blessing of holy matrimony. Unification members must be united with Master for them to have this unity, they must first, of all, be united with Master in love. By their doing this, they have to form the relationship with Masters immediate children as, true brothers and sisters, thus connecting themselves with the True Parents as their own. That is the standard which makes possible the establishment of Children's Day. In other words, Master has been able to put his mind and, body into one centered on God on the vertical level. Then his union with his bride centered on God's love, Parent's Day could come about. Then, centered on the True, Parents, the external members should become one with their immediate children on the, horizontal level, and thus be able to unite themselves with the True Parents on the vertical level, thus the establishment of Children's Day is made possible.

As we have learned in the Principle of Creation, the establishment of the foundation of four positions centered on God is an historic event. For the first time, there exists a true family centered on God's love. Centered on this family as the mediator, all things are restored to their original relationship with God, centered on the first human family, which was severed at the time of the fall. Without this restoration accomplished, the restoration of ourselves to the original position would be impossible. All things were created in the beginning for the first man and woman, since they are in the position of dominion; but due to their fall all things lost the ones who could have loved them and appreciated them. Now that there is a true family centered on God's love, all things have gained the ones who will love them. Because of this, we can celebrate World Day.

World Day was established in the fall of 1963. Thus, in the Unification Church we could enjoy Parent's Day, Children's Day and World Day, which history has never before witnessed. Centering in Master's family, the whole nation of God's choice must become one, and centering on this nation, all the nations of the world must become one. World Day was established on the foundation of God's heart, the True Parent's heart and the Children's heart. In order to expand this foundation on the worldwide level, I made my first world tour in the year 1965, visiting 40 countries where I blessed 120 holy grounds. When I laid the foundation of holy grounds in 40 countries like that, the whole world came to be connected on the external level with our blessed families and naturally with God's will, which is our will also. On this foundation, I could bless more families on the worldwide level, connecting them with Parent's Day, Children's Day, World Day and finally God's Day. On the first of January, 1968, 1 finally set up God's Day. Without the human fall, God's Day should have been established first with the other days following, because God is the creator, and should rejoice over all His creation. Next should come the establishment of Parent's Day, the Children's Day and finally World Day. All these days could have been established at the same time.

Why, then, was God's Day established last? It is because the parents, the children and all things still remain in the sphere of satanic accusation, and only by restoring them through indemnity can they be offered to God as acceptable sacrifices. That's why the order was reversed. If you really understand the great significance of God's Day, Parent's Day, Children's Day and World Day, then the whole world will be yours; because according to the Principle of Creation, all things are longing to be dominated by the people who love them. In the future, God will keep pace with our movement by bringing, radical changes in the world so that our movement can develop as quickly as possible.

When you are asked if you have the love of God, love of True Parents, the love of children and love of all things, and you can answer the questions in the affirmative, then you are qualified to hold all things under your dominion. If you can really love God and love the, True Parents who love God, and love the True Children who love the True Parents, and love all things which love the True Children of God, then you are indeed the incarnation of God's love and the True Parent's love. Only with this qualification are you entitled to have dominion over all things. Love alone can dominate the world. If you are with this heart of love, all things will be connected to you; that is, you will have to be blessed with material wealth. This is how the Principle goes. If this kind of person cannot be blessed with material, then there is something wrong with the Divine Principle.

All things would want to belong to persons who love them most, wouldn't they? Who can love them most? All things will desire to have those who are the incarnation of God's love, the True Parent's love and children's love to dominate them. If you have this attitude in carrying out your mission to realize God's will, then not only your internal, but also your external problems will be solved; that is, you will be blessed with happiness and material abundance.

Now we are working in the United States, which has been prepared by God as the foundation for God's will. The rich natural resources of this country, as I see it, do not belong to just any citizen in the United States, since most of the people of the United States do not possess the love of God, the love of True Parents and the love of True Children. Because the founding ideology of this nation is Christianity, and Christianity is the external foundation to inherit God's heart, God blessed this nation centering on the Christian people. It was not only for the people of the United States to enjoy this wealth that God blessed them, but it was for them to use it for the benefit of the people of the world so that all people would be united into one in God's love through exchanging the things as tokens of love. If this powerful nation should lose God's love, God's abundant material blessing will be taken away and given to the nation whose people are receiving God's love.

The year 1974 will be the saturation point, and we cannot allow America to lose its stand as a nation blessed with material wealth. That is why we are here -- to help this nation. In the early days of this nation, your Puritan fathers came to this continent for the freedom of worship. I know this nation is in the leading position in the world, internally by the Christian ideology and externally with the democratic ideology. Seen from this view point, we, the Unification Church members, are more important than the Puritan, settlers; we are going to establish a new America in the love of God. Do we love America more than the Puritan forefathers did? This is the question. We must have more pioneer spirit than all the Puritans who fought against the Indians to settle on the new continent. What is the purpose of our pioneering work? Our purpose is different from that of the Puritans who pioneered only to settle on this continent. We must become Puritans of a higher dimension in this nation, as a foothold, until we cover the whole world with God's love.

As I walk on the streets, I see many churches standing high as the symbols of God's love and Christianity. We must be determined to love this nation now more than any other Christian people have in the past, and to establish a world culture of a higher dimension than the Christian culture. If you love the churches, their buildings and their people and all things pertaining to them, more than the Christians, then they will all become yours. This is so because, as I said before, all things belong to those who love them most. We now see that the Christian churches are declining. We must revitalize the churches. This great ideology of democracy should be used for the whole world, but the United States is using it for the scope of Americans alone. We must motivate Americans to help the world to be a better place in which to live, encouraging them not to abandon the world as they are now doing. We must make America the world's foremost democratic nation. If we have enough members with such spirit and heart in every corner of this nation, we can move the Christian world as well as the people of this nation.

Again, if we have the spirit and heart to love the whole world more than anyone else, with the love of God, the love of True Parents and the love of True Children, then God is compelled to give the whole world to us. This is in accordance with the Principle. The reason why God blessed America was because the Puritans were united into one by the love of God, transcending national consciousness in fighting against the old powers. God blessed this nation because the people of this nation were united into one centered on the Christian ideology, again transcending national feelings. If America should go on practicing true democracy on the worldwide scale by loving the people of the world, she will continue to be in the leading position among the nations of the world, and continue to enjoy God's blessing. But now, she is on the verge of being deprived of the blessing.

The grave problem of this nation is that it is under the threat of communism, the common enemy of God loving people, and especially of the Unification Church. In the face of the threat of communism, all the freedom loving nations of the world must be united into one transcending national boundaries. We cannot allow the threat of communism to deter us; it should rather strengthen us, because we will take the rebuff as a challenge to become better than them, transcending national boundaries. We must love the world more than the communists love the world. The communist world has a type of unity brought about through force and violence. We, as God loving people, must be united into one in divine love, or we will be deprived of God's blessing. It is easy for people to be united with those who have the same interests, but wouldn't God want us to become one even with our enemies? Thus, divine love is our great weapon to conquer the satanic world.

Here we have members from Korea, Japan, America and elsewhere. In the providence of restoration, it is emphasized that Korea, Japan and America must become one. These three nations historically have had hostile feelings towards one another. First of all, Korea and Japan have been enemies. On the other hand, Japan and the United States are not on good terms. Also, America, in a way, is responsible for the division of Korea, because she participated in the Potsdam Conference where Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin decided on the division of Korea. America cannot avoid the responsibility, because she was the major power in the Second World War. Fortunately, the United States has been aiding Korea and created the condition to be forgiven. If these once hostile nations can be united into one, this will be an historical event. Centered on the will of God and Master, we are accomplishing this unity, and the people around us are a witness to it.

Of the three nations, Japan is the most responsible for the disharmony between them. At the time of the fall, Eve ruined the two male beings: Adam and the archangel. Likewise, Japan in the position of Eve has as her enemies Korea in the position of Adam, and the United States in the position of the archangel. Japan as the "Eve" nation is externally blessed with material wealth; but there is a good reason for that. Then, who can make these three nations into one? Eve alone cannot do it. Only Adam can do it. At the time of the fall the archangel seduced Eve and Eve seduced Adam. So, in the course of restoration, conversely, Adam must be united with Eve and then with the archangel. America cannot save the archangelic nation of the United States by herself; therefore, the members of the Eve nation and Adam nation are here to aid America.

You must know the great significance of my having brought Japanese members to work under me with America as the foundation for our world mission. Regarding the United States and Europe, the former is in the position of Abel, while the latter is in the position of Cain. If the European members become one with the American members, that represents the unity between Cain and Abel. When Master as Adam and the Japanese members as Eve together become one with Cain and Abel, unity in God's Will will be brought about. Master must love the United States more than he would love Korea; Japanese members must love this nation more than they would their own country, and the European members must also love America more than they would their own countries. Then America cannot perish. The American people in the position of Abel must be willing to sacrifice themselves before Cain. To Adam and Eve, the archangel is in the position of servant, so the United States must be exemplary in serving other nations. According to the Principle, American members have to go through more difficulty than the Korean or Japanese members. If you are not willing to do that, I will make you do that. If you carry out your mission, America will never perish. If the United States cannot carry out its mission as Abel, the mission will be shifted to Cain. This is true in light of the Divine Principle. By the year 1980, the three seven year courses will be over, and our strategy centered on America must be carried out to the full extent by that year.

Now you know why Master has to push you hard. This is not just a story I am fabricating; the Divine Principle teaches us this. In our movement, there are people from many nations once hostile to one another being united into one -- that's what makes our movement great. Once united, we are such a strong group that no. other power or "ism" can split us apart. In the future, we will set up the tradition of a, new culture which will be different from the democracy of the United States. It will be in the form of democracy, but it is not going to be a democracy in which individualism will prevail. It will be a democracy for the sake of the whole, that is, for the sake of the world, and for the sake of heaven and earth. So, purely individualistic thinking must be annihilated. Individualistic people would ignore their nation and the world, only thinking about themselves. We must love America more than any other nation. If we love America more than anyone else on the family level, national level, and worldwide level, then God's blessing. will fall upon us, and we can influence the whole nation. Who, except Satan, can object to us in that case? The opposing power will be either expelled by God, or removed by us. All the things of creation will be willing to belong to us.

Again I must say that all the things of creation belong to those who love them most. In America, I can see many who don't love their belongings at all. All things are entitled to the love coming from God, love coming from the True Parents, and love coming from the true children. For example, you must take good care of the car you are using, just as you take care of the clothes you wear. On the streets of New York City, there are many dirty cars which are dented and damaged. Beautiful women and smart looking men are often seen driving dirty cars. This is a great contradiction. You must take good care of your car, giving it due respect and love. We, as members of the Unification Church, should ourselves feel injured when our cars are dented and scarred. Americans are without love for all things, and, in fact, are not loving human beings in the truest sense. They seem not to love their own children; if they really did, they could not get divorced and leave them so easily.

I have had the experience of sinking into deep appreciation of an apple, of holding it in my hand, and gazing endlessly at it. This happened when I was in prison under the communist regime in North Korea [Hungnam Special Labor Camp]. Twice a year the prisoners are given one small apple each -- on January first and on May first. Some of the apples are rotten, while others are worm-eaten. When they distribute them, one never dreams of finding a good one. We had to pick out one, each at random. Everyone was very serious it was I something like drawing lots in order to decide our fate. But as soon as each prisoner had his apple, he would devour it right away. However, Master would first pause. to appreciate the beauty, the color, and the shape of the apple, thinking, "I should first savor the color, and then eat the apple." Then, I would not feel like biting, into the apple at all. I simply could not eat it because I wanted to further appreciate the color and smell of the apple. In a way I was in love with the apple, and I was proud of myself being in love with it. However, it was a regulation in the jail that no one could keep what was given to him longer than one day. So, finally I had to eat it, after giving thanks to God.

If, I could love even a. small apple like that, how much more should you love your car? Have you ever loved your car as your child? [No.] Then, will you be loving your car from now on? [Yes!] When you, really, love your car and become one with it, even at the point of danger, other cars cannot collide with yours, though you had been going at full speed. With faith in God and confidence, in doing things you will advance and grow.

God will never allow Satan to invade anyone who is, perfectly one with the Divine Principle, or anything which is completely one with that kind of person. God will, protect them and Satan cannot claim them. Isn't that true? Every day before leaving your home wouldn't

you comb your hair, dress yourself neatly, and look In the mirror to see if you look all right? Likewise, when you want to use your car, you must see if you have enough gas, if the brakes and other things are working well, if the engine sounds proper, etc. Are you doing this every day? If you are, not, you are apt to have, an, accident. If your car is damaged, it means that you will be injured. If you don't take good care of the car when you are using it all the time you are like a thief, because you, are not entitled to the car when you don't love, it. You, are using it as if it, is yours; so you are a thief. If you don't give your car loving care, when it demands it, you are like a thief. You are exploiting the car when you are not entitled to its service and it serves you right, when you have a car, accident. When you decorate a room like this hall is decorated, you want to do the best job. Then you are so attached to the decorations that you are unwilling to take them down; you want to leave. it even after the celebration. When you wear your clothes, you don't want to throw away the old ones; you are more attached to the old, clothes and want to take care of them by cleaning and laundering them. If you cannot connect yourself with material things in heart and love centering on the Principle, you can never connect yourself with God or be united in oneness with Him. If you clearly know this, then you, can automatically love the material things, and take good care of them loving them whether or not people tell you to do this.

You, blessed couples, do you love your spouse? You must love your wife dearly, but when you go to work you must love your work as you love your wife. You must put your work in the position of your external wife or in the position of your own children. When you leave your home for work, you must go with the feeling of great anticipation as though you miss your work. When you leave work for home, you must feel joyful anticipation and longing to see your wife and children. That is, in face of anything and everything, you must love your work as you would love people. That kind of person will never perish.

It was with this attitude that I made one trip every day to Su Taek Lee Factory. If you love the people and all things you will be loved by God and blessed with material abundance. I have a record of having made three trips to Su Taek Lee Factory in one day. No matter what that thing is, if you love it, you miss it, and if you miss it you want to go and see it. Our members at the factory would feel funny and strange when I would visit so often, and would whisper to each other, "Why does he have to come again and be here all the time?" In proportion to the ardor you hive for your work, you will be blessed with greater material wealth. That's the Principle. Unless you have this kind of heart and love toward all things, you are not entitled to celebrate World Day. With this type of person, though he is alone, he is not lonely, because even a pebble on the roadside becomes a friend with whom he can communicate. Then you can talk to the pebble saying, "When were you born? Maybe millions of years ago? Then you must have suffered a lot." Or to a blade of grass, "Where are your ancestors from? What is your story -- how did you come to live here." Anything and everything has its past history, its present situation and its future hope. Seen from this viewpoint, any plant, no matter how trivial it may look, and any animal, however insignificant it seems must be treated with love and heart as part of God's creation. For the person with this attitude of heart, every material thing will be his friend and will be ready to be used by him.

It's only natural that the material blessing is close at hand. Now you are going out flower selling and candle selling. Those who are with heavy boxes of candles may complaining: "Oh, how heavy these are! I never dreamed of having to sell candles when I joined the Unification Church. But I guess I have to do it. " Then, you will try to sell them, but no one will buy them. On the contrary, your attitude should be, "My dear candles, today I am more blessed since I have you." Then you should go out selling with a light and happy heart, as though you were distributing gifts of love with a smile radiating on your face, then more people will buy the candles. Those who will buy your candle will feel as though they have been given gifts. Some will buy more than expected without realizing what they are doing. Try to sell with that kind of heart and attitude, and if you don't sell a lot, then you can tell me that I am a liar. After the flower selling contest the other day, one of the girls testified that she felt like giving the flowers to the people as the gift of love. I felt then that it was exactly what I was going to tell you. This is the Principle. It has got to be like that. Miracles can be performed in this way.

What must be the desire of all things? Their desire must be to be used by the people who love them most, just as woman's desire would be to have the husband who would love her most. Without love, life will be meaningless. What is the purpose of our being here today? We are not here just to celebrate World Day, but to learn to love all things. Have you come with that in mind? We must know that all creation exists for the sake of love. Birds would sing and fly about from place to place for the sake of love. Even the magnets tend to unite, the plus with the minus; that is also due to the power of love. People want to meet each other and be united into oneness with each other; that also is because of love. Many greedy people want to cooperate together to gain wealth, position and power. But without God centered love, they will meet with rupture and division.

What is our purpose of life? In fact, you are not living for the sake of yourself alone. We live, we move about, and we do things for the sake of love. Some people, at least, do this for the sake of God's love, which is the ultimate source of human love. How wonderful is the fact you are not living for your own self, but for the sake of God, whose love enables you to undergo all the hardships and miseries without wavering. If we know that our purpose in life is as such, we must make it a rule to live our everyday life centered on God's love.

If you have this attitude and philosophy, you can turn these United States upside down, even though you are small in number. We are sure of that. It is a question of time. In the year 1965 when I made a tour of the United States covering the United States in 43 days, I meant to plant God's love everywhere. I am confident that I love America more than anyone else. So, it is natural that America is going to be turned upside down by me. At least God loving people must be inspired by our movement. Even though I cannot reach out to everyone, the spirit world will mobilize to move the hearts of the people before I arrive. This kind of phenomena is going to occur more frequently.

Everything starts from love. When you are at the table before your meal, if you love the food more than you did yesterday, then you can enjoy the food with more appetite. If you blessed couples know this, how can you fight each other at the breakfast table? With the ring, which is the symbol of love on your finger, how can you fight and beat each other? Whenever you look at your ring, you must think of your loving husband or wife. When you know that even the trees in your garden are waiting for the love coming from you blessed couples as their masters, then can you fight each other in their presence? If your family is centered on love, it will become an ideal family. And all things will sing in praise of your family. Even thieves would not dare to break into your house. If you respect me and like me, it is because I have something different from that which common people have, that is, the love and heart towards everyone and everything of God's creation. When you look at electric lamps of different voltages, wouldn't your eyes be attracted to the brightest one? We must have the idea that everything and everyone would exist and act for the sake of love as their purpose. Any one creation cannot live all by itself, but only in relation with other things of the creation.

Everything in God's creation is important. So, you must love all things as though they have a spirit. Even when you are moving a thing to another place you can talk to it and say, "Wouldn't it be better for you to move over here?" Then it will respond to your tenderness. You must always do things with this love. When I push you hard to go out to local towns to witness, then you must go there and act with deep love. When you think of the fact that you are there to inherit God's love to the people and introduce them to the great world of love, you will enjoy the work however hard it may be. Only after going through suffering, can we realize the purpose of love.

This is the way of hope, the way of love and the way of life. If you think you are doing this for the sake of Master, being utilized by him, would you be happy to do this? You are glad to do this because by doing this you can save America and the whole world. Your original mind knows this automatically, that's why you do not try to complain against me. If you do complain, I will have nothing to do with you in this life or in the spirit world. Then you will become stragglers. If we have loving hearts, then God will be with us; and if God is with us, we will enjoy constructive changes -- everything will result in success.

In proportion to your depth of understanding of the Principle you will enjoy parent's love, conjugal love and children's love, centered on God, who is the ultimate subject of love. Such a person who enjoys these things can realize the kingdom of God both on earth and in the spirit world. To him love is a thing of ultimate importance. So, even in the face of death, he knows that he is born for the love which can be attained only after going through death and misery. Those who think it is only natural to have to go through sacrifice and misery to attain success can dominate misery and even death, without allowing misery or death to dominate them. Jesus' resurrection could come with this foundation.

Just imagine, we are born to love each other. What do we have our eyes for? It is to see the things we love. What do we have our ears for? It is to hear words of love. What do we have our nose for? To smell things that we love. What do we have our mouth for? To eat things that we love and to speak the words of love. If you think like this, how happy you will be. Are you miserable people or happy people? Every element is in your possession when you have the right view of life. You must clearly understand the ideal world will start from you as an individual when you are with God's love, which you can put into practice in your daily life in human relationships. Love will start from you. reaching out to all things, as it originally started from God reaching out to you.

We come to the conclusion that we are entitled to enjoy all things only when we are in love with them. That's the attitude and manner in which we should celebrate God's Day, World Day or Day of All Things, Parent's Day and Children's Day. I want you to be entitled to these celebrations. Now that you have this understanding, if you are resolved to live like this, hold up your hands.

Jacob's Course And Our Life In Faith

Restoration through indemnity is the principle which guides our course in the life of faith. We have learned that we need an offering to make indemnity or restitution. The offering is a conditional object given to God in place of ourselves. In other words, the offering is an object external to ourselves, and we are the internal counterpart of the object. The offering and ourselves must be united into one for us to advance in our life of faith.

Due to the fall, we cannot immediately reach the stage of perfection in the course of restoration through indemnity. We have to go through the three stages of formation, growth, and perfection before going beyond the level of perfection. In order for us to reach the final level, we have to offer sacrifices as indemnity conditions representing the growth stage and the perfection stage. To do this we must learn in what manner Jacob went through the three stages of formation, growth and perfection in his mission This, is an immediate question in our life of faith. Jacob's course is the same as the course as Moses, and Moses' course is parallel to the course of Jesus. Therefore, Jacob's course shows us the formula, or pattern, for the entire course of the providence of restoration.

The providential history of restoration under God is made up of the Old Testament Age, the New Testament Age, and the Completed Testament Age. The Old Testament Age was the time in which people offered sacrifices by using the things of creation as objects, while in the New Testament Age, this was done through the children, with Jesus in the central position as the Son of, God, and in the Completed Testament this is done through the Parents. This means that first the things of creation, next the children, and finally the parents are put in the position of sacrifice in the providential history of restoration. Jacob's possessions, his children, and he together with his wife, were put in the position of sacrifice centering on Jacob.

In order for Jacob to become a central personage responsible for offering a sacrifice of providential significance, he had to go through a course of struggle to subjugate Esau. Esau was in the position representing the satanic world. Jacob represented God's side. Did Jacob as Abel become really one with Esau as his Cain, thus subjugating Satan completely? Not originally. Jacob should have won the blessing in his native home in total harmony with Esau and not have had to go to Haran. However, he had to escape from the danger brought about by Esau's intention to kill him. Thus, the condition of indemnity was not completed. Due to Esau's opposition, Jacob could not create the condition of harmony between Esau and himself before their parents. Therefore, he had to go to Haran and place his life on trial. At first, Jacob did not have anything to offer before God as sacrifice in Haran. His possessions, after all, were Laban's and not his own. Jacob escaped from Esau, but there was still Laban who was another Esau in a position more external than Esau's. Laban always acted as an obstacle to Jacob in the course of indemnity. Because Jacob had to go through these situations, his course is the model course which a man of faith must follow.

You are not in the position of having become one with your physical parents; you are now in the land of Haran, living in Laban's home. You can only hope to become really one with your parents when you have earned your own possessions to offer God. This is similar to Jacob's course of restoration. Since Jacob had nothing at all in his possession, he had to get things to offer to God from the satanic world; that is, from Laban. To do that Jacob had to get help from God.

Then, how can we get help from God? Before wanting to be loved by God, we must prepare an offering of sacrifice for Him; then God will help us according to the condition we make. You are now in the position of having come to Haran after leaving your own homes. You have to have cooperation from God. What is the purpose of having cooperation from God? We must not make it our purpose to receive God's love, but we must get conditional objects to offer God to receive His cooperation. We are exactly in the same position as Jacob, but the age in which we live is different from that in which Jacob lived. Jacob was the central figure who was blessed with the heavenly heritage and he did his very best in preparing an acceptable offering of sacrifice, with the hope that his mission on the national level would commence in accordance with God's will, centering on his family. In this age, we are situated not in the age of the family level providence. but in the national level.

Then, where and in what manner did Jacob have to set up a tradition of belief enabling him to receive God's blessing and protection? It may appear simple, but Jacob and the offering were not enough; there was something else needed. The offering was not for the sake of Jacob himself; he had to offer it for the sake of the Israelites and their nation which was the nation of God's choice. In other words, the sacrifice is something to be offered in order to make things of higher and wider dimension and more public nature, such as the family and the nation, reach God and connect with Him. Whether or not you are strong in this idea can determine whether or not you receive God's blessing and cooperation. The more opposition and persecution Jacob received from Laban, the more he thought of his native home where he had to bring back what he would get from Laban. He did not want to merely enjoy his life in Haran with the blessings God had allowed him to have, but he desired to share his blessing with his brothers and parents back in his native home. This desire to share with his own family was the basis or beginning of his idea to love his own people and then the nation.

Jacob's primary desire should have been to share all the blessings he had with his brothers and parents, and thus to become harmonized in oneness with them. Jacob led the lonely life of a shepherd, but all during this time his ultimate purpose was not to gain money or the material blessing. He missed his native home, for he was highly blessed by God, being born into the family of Isaac, in the lineage of Abraham. He felt sorry for what he had done to his elder brother. He thought it was understandable for Esau to want to kill him when he had taken away the birthright by cheating; and he was sympathetic with his brother. But what Jacob had that was acceptable as an offering to God was that the more difficult and lonely his situation became due to the aggravating persecution from Laban, the deeper attachment he felt towards his parents and brothers. This made him always wonder what he could do for their sake; this was the primary question. He thought that he could readily share with everybody at home what he had acquired by spending 21 long years of drudgery. If he felt the least bit self-centered, thinking that all the things he acquired belonged to him alone, Jacob ,could have ended his course in failure. This was the case because God blessed Jacob not for his own welfare and prosperity, but to have him lay the foundation on which all the Israelites could enjoy the blessing after he had organized the people by his own efforts. In other words, Jacob had to think in terms of public benefit in order to succeed. When he completed his 21 year course successfully, God blessed him with all the material wealth and all the other things necessary for his mission.

You know the details of the prolongation of his course from 7 years to 21 years. God blessed Jacob in his 21-year course to such an extent that even Laban became fearful of him, and wanted to prevent him from growing wealthier. As you well know, during his 3 day course Jacob stole all the things he needed. You know also that when Jacob was well on, his way, Laban caught up with him and quarreled with him over the idol which he had stolen. If Leah, in sympathy with her father, had told him the truth about the idol, Jacobs 21-year course would have come to nothing. But Leah deceived her father, Laban. What is interesting here is that Leah cheated her father, and Jacob also cheated his father. If Leah and Jacob had both deceived their fathers for their own benefit, it would have been wrong. However, they did this for God and His people, and we know that this is a necessary condition in the course of restoration. Leah was strictly on the side of Jacob. If Leah had cheated her own father, this would mean that she had become completely one with Jacob. In terms of becoming a God's side family, we can define Jacob's family as one which history had never before seen. Leah was one with Jacob without becoming one with her father, Laban, and this made it possible for Jacob to remain the owner of all his possessions.

In Adam's family, Adam and Eve deceived their Father, God, for an evil purpose; in Jacob's course of restoration, Jacob and Leah deceived their satanic-side father, which was right in God's sight. If Leah had become one with Laban against God's will, all could have been nullified. Not only his possessions, but also his children could have become questionable as whole offerings to God. If Jacob and his wife had been separated, where would the children have gone? Surely, there would have been division among the children, too, some wanting to follow their father while others, their mother. If so, could the restoration of Cain and Abel have been completed on the family level at that time? No! Their possessions also, being not solely on God's side, could not have been acceptable to God. Therefore, the fact that Jacob and Leah had become one with each other was an historical event in the providence of God. By their becoming one, parents, children, and all things naturally became one, all three in complete unity before God. At this point, Jacob was able to offer the three great offerings, all in unity and harmony, making them acceptable to God.

In Jacob's offering of the sacrifice, another condition was necessary; that is, he had to excel Cain many ways in order to offer an acceptable sacrifice to God. This is the fundamental principle in offering the sacrifice. In other words, Jacob had to offer the sacrifice in a way which would make it invulnerable to Satan's accusation. Satan is always accusing, so God can only accept the sacrifice of Abel if and when it excels that of Cain. Then, who is in the position of Cain? Esau was in the position of Cain to Jacob as Abel. Jacob and Esau are now struggling on the horizontal level, while God and Satan are doing the same on the vertical level. At this moment, Jacob's main thought should be so thorough as to think that he and his wife, his children, and all his possessions belonged to God and not to him. All these things are in the position of sacrifices for the realization of God's will. Jacob was on the way home, but the question was how to solve the problem with Esau. At this moment, God was on the side of Jacob, while Satan was on the side of Esau. God and Satan were both anxious to find whether or not Jacob, as the central figure, would stand firmly with the central view of the providence of restoration, centered strictly on God, that is to say, whether Jacob would stand firmly in the position of successful Abel, or become trapped under satanic conditions. Both God and Satan concentrated their attention on that.

In offering the sacrifice, Jacob had to excel Esau, not only on the physical level, but on the spiritual level also; in other words he had to subjugate Satan. On the way back home he would pray at the ford of Jabbok desperately that God should help Esau to welcome him without being hostile to him, because he knew that if Esau was going to kill him his mission would be a failure and dissipate. He knew that his way was not for himself as an individual, but for the restoration through indemnity for Adam's failure of being subjugated by the archangel. Therefore, Jacob had to first subjugate the archangel, who was in the position of Esau on the spiritual level, before being able to actually subjugate Esau on the physical level. Since Adam fell by being subjugated by the archangel, then the physical Esau was in the position of fallen Adam. In order to restore all the particulars through indemnity, Jacob had to restore on both levels, first subjugating the archangel. Therefore, he wrestled with the archangel at the ford of Jabbok all through the night for success on the spiritual level. In wrestling with the archangel, he had to risk all his possessions and his children, including himself and his wife.

What was the motivation and significance of the wrestling? If Jacob should be defeated in wrestling by the archangel, all his possessions, all his children, including himself and his wife, which should have all been unified in wholesome oneness, could have been taken away or torn into pieces by satanic hands. However, if he should win, all those things would belong to him and God. They fought all through the night until they were both exhausted, but the wrestling was not over yet. How do you think the match went? They were not evenly matched all the way. There were times when Jacob was almost defeated. What do you think? Was it Jacob who fell more times or the archangel? It is understandable that Jacob fell more times, but he would not give up even though he faced death; he fought desperately to win over the archangel. He would cling to the archangel again and again at the risk of his life. That's what made him fierce. That's exactly what happens in our course of life in faith. You are desperate to win over Satan, but Satan is so fierce that you stumble over and over again. No matter how many times you may be on the verge of defeat, you will attack him again and again. The archangel, too, was in a difficult situation. He may have beaten Jacob, but he could not kill him, since he would be liable to judgment if he did. So, the archangel too was in a most difficult situation.

In the meantime dawn was breaking and the archangel knew that he had to leave Jacob at daybreak because the archangel belonged to darkness. So, just before the dawn, he became desperate and he broke Jacob's thigh. How do you think the archangel broke Jacob's thigh? He must have done this in a moment when Jacob was weak. If, at that moment, Jacob was not being defeated, he could not have done that. Still, Jacob could not give up. Even though his thigh was broken, Jacob would not give up. At the thought of loss he became even more furious, and attacked the archangel again and again. He would rather lose his life in attacking than lose the battle.

At last the archangel had to give in. At last he could not but say to Jacob, "You have won the battle, you are the victor. " He had to bless Jacob with the name "Israel", which meant "victor." All, through human history, Jacob was the only one who wrestled with the archangel and was victorious over him. He well deserved the name of "the victor." That is how the word "Israel" - which means "victor" - came into being. You must know that in being victorious over the archangel, he battled at the risk of his life, and that you, too, in your life in faith, must fight against Satan at the risk of your lives. Jacob's subjugation of the angel on the spiritual level' signified Jacob's reversal of the situation that occurred in the Garden of Eden,, where our first human Ancestors were subjugated by the archangel. However, Esau still remained to be subjugated. Adam fell by being subjugated by the archangel in the Garden of Eden. He himself fell into the position of the archangel [Satan] in substance. Now Jacob had to subjugate Esau who was in this position of the archangel in substance. In the Garden of Eden Adam was in the position of having to think of God alone without a thought for himself. Jacob was in the position of Adam, and had to go beyond the level where Adam failed and fell. In what manner could Jacob carry this out? Jacob had to think only of God, His will, and His words, trusting that God, who had blessed him, would never betray him. Even though his brother, Esau, may have wanted to take revenge on a him, he would have to have such strong faith as to never be defeated so he could stop his brother from taking his revenge.

Now Jacob was on his way home to meet his brother, Esau. He could have gone somewhere else to enjoy his wealth if he did not think of God's will. He could have said, "Esau is Esau, and I am I; what have I to do with his life?" But his mind was so occupied by God's will that he wanted to meet his brother and reconcile the past and soothe his heart until his resentment vanished. What did he have to do in meeting his elder brother, Esau? First of all, he was ready to give up all his possessions, all his servants and his children, telling his brother that all these belonged to him. His attitude was: "All that I have is yours except God's will and God's blessing which is eternally mine." Adam, who ignored God's will, was self-centered, minding only himself, and lost his children and all things of God's blessing. On the contrary, Jacob was so God-centered that he would give away all things for the will of God. This is what made Jacob different from Esau. On the family level, Jacob would wrestle with Esau and risk all that he had in his possession. Jacob would think to himself, "Esau, you cannot have all this wealth if you don't excel me in exalting God's will." He would challenge and deal with his brother with this attitude. He thought, "As long as you take these possessions of mine, it means that you are one with me and exalting God's will."

After receiving Jacob's gifts, Esau's heart was melted. It was by receiving these gifts that the conditions were met and Esau as the archangel in substance was subjugated in the same way that the archangel was subjugated spiritually by Jacob. By Esau's welcoming Jacob, the conditions of indemnity under God's will were fulfilled on the spot. If Jacob had not fought with the archangel and won over him beforehand, and had to fight against both Esau and the archangel at the same time, what would have happened? If he had to fight with both Esau and the archangel at the same time, wouldn't his wife and children and his servants have joined in the battle? Then the battle would have been fought on a larger scale. It was a great advantage for Jacob to have fought the two battles separately.

Thus the two brothers who had hitherto felt resentment and hostility toward one another, embraced each other, shedding tears and blessing each other. A new era of Israeli history opened at this time in a higher dimension. There, Esau also shared in the blessing of being Israel, the victor. Jacob's course may look simple, but there is an historical meaning in it since all the things which had to be carried out under the providence of God were condensed in his course.

When we see Jacob's course and our course in the life of faith, there is a great similarity between the two. You are in the position of Jacob; you knew that God's blessing was yours and with faith in the Divine Principle movement, you left your own homes when you were faced with opposition and persecutions from your parents and brothers. Those of you here whose parents and brothers oppose our movement, please hold up your hands. Almost all. Where will you go now? In fact, you cannot directly come here. That is, you are not entitled to be in this place. Could Jacob come directly to Father, God, after leaving his home? No! He had to go to Haran. You have to go to your own "Haran", namely, the world where you must experience drudgery and restore people and possessions. In Haran, Jacob was in the position of slave or servant to Laban, wasn't he? Laban would awaken him even in the middle of the night to go on an errand for him. He would say "Come here!" and he had to come, or "Go there!" and he would have to go. Laban would call him names, kick him and do anything to him for the 21 years in which he was under such drudgery. Would Laban have let him sleep when he was drowsy? When he was awakened from sleep, could Jacob retort to Laban and say, "I am sleepy, how dare you wake me up!" That could never happen. Awake or asleep, he had to comply with whatever he wanted. As a servant he was not allowed to eat at the table, but he had to eat in the kitchen. At Laban's call, he would have to stop eating right in the middle of his meal.

We can well imagine what a difficult situation he was in during the 7 years of drudgery. But just think, it was prolonged, for one reason and then another, until it finally became 21 years. From this point the 2, 000 years of providential history after Jacob came about; that is, Jesus came 2, 000 years later, inheriting what was accomplished by Jacob. Two thousand years after the fall of Adam, Jacob came as the Second Adam. By this course through 21 years of drudgery, he could restore through indemnity the lost 2, 000 years of misery by lifting himself to the standard of Adam before the fall. Laban would promise to Jacob something good, but he would break his promise to him as often as 10 times. Laban's cheating Jacob 10 times has something to do with the significant number 10 which covers 3 levels each in the 3 stages of the formation, growth and perfection stages; and going beyond that, one more level to the number 10. The 3 major stages represent God's indirect dominion during which Satan can dominate, permitting Laban to cheat Jacob who was on God's side. If at that time Jacob had attacked Laban, he would not have paid indemnity to the end; he had to obey Laban despite all the hardships persevering to the end. If Jacob had done something to Laban in wrath, his whole mission would have been nullified. The more Laban persecuted Jacob, the more his fortune would be diminished, and the more Jacob would be blessed with abundance.

Jacob strongly believed that God was on his side, and that Laban could never win over him. His strong faith was his life, and the secret with which he persevered. That was his main thought which made it possible for him to go through the 21 years of drudgery with success. This statement shows the extent of Jacob's confidence: "However hard you may oppose me, you are doomed to surrender and I will be the victor". We, too, must have this kind of faith,, because God is on our side. By your joining the Divine Principle movement, this means that you have the promising blessing from God to possess the whole world under the condition of indemnity. That which belonged to Esau is now yours. The world is in the position of Esau to you as Jacob, because the world existed before you. You are blessed with the birthright by God. Then how would you obtain these things? Just as in the case of Jacob, the blessing is already yours. Since the things of the world belong to you, why don't you go and get them yourselves? Frankly, speaking, do you now possess material wealth and position? [No!] Do you have your brothers with you? [No!] You do not have these things because you left your home, and you are on, your way to Haran, or you are already in the land of Haran. Then, do you have your own parents? [No!] You are in the same shoes as Jacob.

Suppose you say, "I want to, go to God." But can you go directly to Him? You are empty-handed with nothing in your possession, That's, not the, way. The man with the responsibility of restoration should be with God, our Father. Everything in the world and is waiting there in grief for you to restore the world to Him. You, cannot go straight to Him empty handed. You can go only after having restored things. So, you are compelled to go into the satanic world and to fight against Satan to restore the people and material out of his hands to be returned to God., Without doing this you will have nothing to offer to God, will you? Again, where are you, destined to go? Yes, to the, satanic world, like Haran. Then, are you willing to go there? You are reluctant, I know, but you have to go! You are sort of forced, to go. Would you want to have material wealth? [Yes!] Then, go out! Would you want a wife -- or would you want a heavenly husband? Then go to Haran. Do you think you can find your spouse by going to God? No, you, must go to Haran to find your spouse. Before joining your spouse, without your parents, without your children, you have practically nothing.

If you follow your Master empty handed, would that do? You cannot do that. I will kick you back. [Laughter] It is out of my love that I do this. I cannot leave you alone, because I know that if I do, you are going, to. die, in the, spiritual sense. I must push you hard to make you go to Haran and get what is due to you, because only in the way are you going to have eternal life in God. It is the formula in the Unification Church that each and every member should go through the seven year course. When it is prolonged you are apt to have to fulfill a 21 year course. If our members cannot fulfill that, the providential history may have to be prolonged another 2, 000 years. If we cannot carry it out, it means that no one else can. do it, and then it can never be done. We who know this must be very serious.

There is one thing we must be really fearful of. What could this be? To be told not to witness to the people is the most horrible fate. Isn't, that true? [Yes!] Then are you willing to go out? [Yes!] You are going to Haran and it is the land of abundance, but in the beginning you will have to be servants to the people there. That's how restoration starts. In the course of restoration, you have to go through the stage of being a servant, the stage of adopted sonship, and then the stage of sonship to the True Parents. These are the 3 stages you must go through. Then you can put yourself in the position of the True Parents to your own descendants. Do you want to go through these stages step by step or do you want to go by leaps going over the 3 stages and into the 4th one all at once? [By leaps!] You are greedy! Then, you have to work four times as hard. Can you do that? [Yes!]

Jacob went to Haran where he went through drudgery and untold misery and persecution; and on the way home, he had to fight the archangel and then he had to fight against his brother, Esau, to be really entitled to the blessing. Under Laban he suffered in agony on the physical level, while at home he suffered in agony with Esau, on the spiritual level. In his battle at the ford of Jabbok with the archangel he suffered both spiritually and physically. If Jacob had not been so well trained in Haran under the drudgery of Laban, he could not have won over the archangel at the ford of Jabbok. He knew that the resentment he accumulated during his 21 years of bitter life in Haran would only be dissolved by his being victorious over the archangel. That's what made him so strong as to not give in before the archangel, and to finally win over him. Only after subjugating the archangel could he share his blessing with his parents. Now Jacob was in the position to be able to say to his parents, who are symbolically in the position of God, "Here are your Cain (Esau) and Abel (Jacob) completely restored. I have restored all the things lost by Cain and Abel in the beginning; here is the lost, family of Adam restored for you." Then God's resentment will be dissolved by the spoils brought by Jacob from the long struggles in Haran. He and his wife in the position of restored Adam and Eve could be dedicated to God.

This is exactly what we have to do in the course of restoration. This is what Moses had to go through as well as Jesus, after the pattern of Jacob. We say that Jacob's course is Moses' course, and Moses' course is Jesus' course. That means that Jesus' course is equal to Jacob's course. Now, do you have a clear picture of 'what your course is? When, you go out to the land of Haran, you will be faced with opposition: opposition from children and descents, from young people, the middle-aged, and from aged persons. In the five types of people there are male and female in each group signifying 10 types of opposition, which corresponds to Laban's 10 times of cheating Jacob. So, you must be ready to be persecuted and cheated at least 10 times by the people of Haran.

By how many people was Jesus opposed? The basic number was 12 his 12 disciples opposed him in the end. The number 12 corresponds to the number? 10 in the course of restoration, because in an event of providential significance, God and the Holy Spirit are always involved. In the song "Arirong", Korean people sing that in love there are twelve hills to cross over. "I will cross over the hills to meet my lover. " That's very symbolic; it's like a revelation. That means that in order to perfect our love, we have to go through at least 12 difficult situations. In order to complete your love in God, you must be able to placate 10 to 12 people opposing you. If this is our standard, we need people opposing us; and in this sense, Laban has done a good deed for Jacob. Even though it was out of jealousy that he persecuted Jacob, Laban's misconduct ultimately had the effect of helping Jacob to win the victory, even though Laban himself was unconscious of it. You must take rebuffs as a challenge, saying "Come what may, this will make me the victor." When the second trial comes, you should do the same until you overcome it, even 10 times or more. Your record will show 10 victories in the final analysis. Satan's opposition would result in helping God's will to be accomplished, if the opposition is overcome by God's people. For this reason, God allows Satan to oppose His people. We must know that when we closely examine the course of restoration, Satan, too, is being used by God in such a way that Satan will finally help God's man to be victorious by Satan's failure. Otherwise, God Himself has to give you a rebuff.

But according to the Principle, God cannot tempt you or put you into trial deliberately. To be tested is, in a way, a good thing. In school, the teacher would give you a test after teaching you certain material, wouldn't he? As I see it, the teachers play the role of both God and Satan. Is persecution good or bad? Success will be yours only when you know this exactly. Without knowing that, you cannot win over Satan in the trial. Then, would you rather have big trials or small ones? [Big!] In case there is no trial coming to you, what would you do? Then, you must arouse trials, that is, you must work so vigorously as to arouse persecution. For instance, you visit a village, it may be quiet, but once you go there, the whole village will be stirred up. Then, division is apt to be created in that village, with some coming to persecute you while some come to support you. When do you think the persecution will end? When you will have won over the last one.

Your Master is ready to go through persecution even now. Even though the whole of the United States may oppose me, they cannot kill me; I will survive all the trials, and the United States will be ours. It's something like Jacob fighting against the archangel at the risk of his life. If the United States should kill me, she is liable to judgment. So, we must have Jacob's steadfastness and perseverance. We must have the attitude of, "You cannot go without blessing me". We are exactly in the position of Jacob, aren't we? We have nothing to be afraid of. Since we are going to do things for the sake of God and the United States, we can do just about anything, and everything will come to us. Are you like that? These are not words fabricated by man; it is the word of God. I am conveying this to you since, I have put it into practice myself. After the Korean liberation from the Japanese regime, it took me twenty years to indemnify the 2, 000 years history from Adam to Jacob. If it had not been for the persecution from the Christian people, the same thing could have been done much earlier without having to go through three seven-year courses. My twenty year course is from 1960 to 1980. By the year 1980 we will have won the Christian world. Entering the year 2,000 it is going to be the Unification Church Age. That is, our movement will have to cover the whole world.

We must know that by the year 1980 we must win the whole Christian world and influence the democratic world. We are now in preparation for that. We have only 7 years left. By uniting the democratic world with our ideology we have to fight against the communist world in the final battle. By that time, the Abel on the world-wide level will have to conquer Cain on the world-wide level. Here, again our mission is exactly like Jacob's. Who is in the position of Cain to the Unification Church? The whole Christian world is Cain to us because it is in the position of the archangel on the spiritual level, while the communist world is in the position of the archangel or Satan, on the substantial level. When we win the Christian world, the problem of the communist world will be of no consequence.

We are now at the ford of Jabbok fighting against the archangel. We have to inherit the blessing of God from the Christian world. Those who are in the position of the archangel have got to bless us as the victors. The democratic world is based on the Christian cultural sphere. So, if we, by winning the victory in the Christian cultural sphere, should inherit the blessing from that, then we can start our mission to fight against the satanic world. If the Christian world will become entirely one with us, just as Esau came to a willing surrender before Jacob, then the communist world will be no problem at all. Master must be able to say before God, "I have restored the lost wife, the lost family, the lost nation, and I have restored the lost world." Only after having restored all these things can the kingdom of God be started. Isn't that true? It's exactly what should be done.

You, as my disciples must follow my way; that is, you too must follow the way of Jacob on the individual level, on the family level national level and the world-wide level. You are now going into the land of Haran in order to witness to the people and to do many other things. What are you going to get there? You must get your wife, your children and material wealth. Would you want to have all those things? [Yes!] If you are going to be frustrated in persecution, there will be nothing left. Would it be difficult for you to persevere for 7 years while Jacob persevered 21 years? What about 21 years? There should be no question about it. That's nothing compared to the difficulties I had to go through. If you don't survive these difficulties, you are going to be like dead people even though you are alive. If you have to die in the spiritual sense, then what will be left there? Nothing will be left.

Knowing all this, you must be desperate. You may think, "After three years in the Unification Church, I am going to be entitled to the blessing of marriage." Originally you are going to be restored only after restoring yourself, your children, and your nation with its material wealth. Only by Cain and Abel becoming one can you be in the position of the restored Adam and Eve, enabling both brothers and sisters to come before parents. God is in the position of parents. Due to the human fall, He lost all wealth, which was to have been under the children's dominion. Their relationship with their parents was cut off. Only when Cain and Abel become one, can they return to their parents and be blessed in marriage by them. That's the Principle.

Have you done that much? You have still a long way to go. But after joining the Unification Church, you set your eyes on each other looking for a mate, but that is not right. Only after having brought in three spiritual children can you be blessed. Only after having returned three times as many material possessions as you used to enjoy in the world, can you enjoy your possessions In the movement But as soon as you join the Unification Family you feel you are free to choose your mate and free to have food, clothing and shelter. That's the wrong idea; it is against the Principle. Isn't that true? When you live in the church, if you don't witness to the people, and restore the material for the church you are parasites; if you don't bring in spiritual children and want to get blessed in marriage, you are thieves. After you have returned all these things to God, God will, give them back to you, saying, "These are your children, this material belongs to you so enjoy it all. If you don't return these things to God, though He would want to give you everything, He would be empty handed. But if you have gained these things, then you, too, will have something to give your children. That is the Principle. Jesus should also have fulfilled this, since it was part of his mission.

After you restore three spiritual children and material wealth, God will bless you, and later your spiritual children will receive the blessing after you have raised them wholesomely to meet the standard. Your spiritual children, in turn, must fulfill their portion of the responsibility and bring 3 spiritual children, each having restored their material possessions. Have you done your part? If not, are you ready to fulfill your part? [Yes!] For whom are you going to fulfill your responsibility? [For you.] No, not for me; you are going to do that for your own sakes. You may say, "I am doing this because I am told to do it by Master; so I am doing this for him." Or you may say, "I am doing this because it is God's will; then, am I not doing this for God's sake?" Not at all. You are doing all this for your own sake. You are taking advantage of what I have accomplished and enjoy it as yours. You are working on the foundation I have laid with hard labor, and you are greatly indebted to me; so, can you say you are working for my sake?

You are indebted to God for His 6,000 years toil. Can you say you are doing things for the sake of God? Knowing this, your Master would pray before God even in untold difficulty "Father don't worry about me, I can take care of myself. I will carry out my mission." Then, can you complain to God for seemingly not helping you? Out in the front line, can you complain against me saying, "Oh Master, why have you sent me to such a remote place, where I have to meet with such difficulty?" Can you say that? What I have gained in 10 years battle in Korea is going to be inherited to you, just as a new branch is engrafted to the tree rooted in this soil of the United States. Can you still complain? Witnessing is, after all, for your own sake! It is your mission to restore the nation; it is your mission to restore the world. Because of the human fall, all humanity has to go through the same way. So, it is also your way.

You are supposed to go through the stages step by step, but you are now already standing on the level of the nation-wide foundation which I have laid for you. One more step and you will reach the world-wide level of restoration. Still, can you complain? The ten year old wholesome true olive tree is here in the American soil for you to be engrafted to as he branches. Can the branches grow without the trunk and root? My branches can have life because of the trunk and its roots. You are indebted to the wholesome tree; you must be grateful for that. When you go to the spirit world you will know everything clearly and you will be eternally grateful to God and your Master. Wouldn't that be true? This is not my fabricated words I am telling you, but it is the truth. Here in the United States, I want to give out my life power to you as the branches, so that you will grow wholesomely and thrive to cover the whole world. Are you willing to become branches of world-wide value or not? Then you must be positive in carrying out your mission. Isn't that true? Then, you must go through hardships more than any nations in the world in order to make our mission a success in the nearest possible future.

Now that you know this theory, I am sure that it is clear to you that our Principle and our course in the life of faith really conform with each other, although it may have been vague to you until now. We must clearly understand that Master has been treading on the road step by step. Do you know what I mean? Again, I must remind you of the fact that Jacob restored his family's material wealth in Haran, and on the way back home he wrestled the archangel and won over him; then back at home he could subjugate Esau. Seen from our viewpoint, Haran is the world whereas the archangel is Christianity and Esau the communist world. In subjugating all these things, we must restore the whole world back to God. Can you imagine how impatient and busy your Master must have been during the 21 year course? Now you must feel the same and do the same. We must be united into a strong oneness in the joint effort. If there is a division here, how sad our Heavenly Father will be.

Suppose your father is in Haran under persecution by the people around him; his children, too, are hated by the people. They must be strongly united into one in face of such difficulties. If the children are divided among each other, their power will be weakened. Isn't that true? You, children of God, must be one with each other; then you must become one with me. You must go through the hardships in Haran and, having subjugated Christianity on the spiritual level, you must be able to establish the earthly kingdom of God. What is left before us is the great world wide task of consistently connecting all the success you've gotten stage by stage with the course of 21 years. By that time, no power in the whole world will oppose us.

The world is now rapidly declining into ruin. It will so happen that we are going to rise, while the Christian world will fall, rapidly declining; ultimately, the communist world will collapse. By the year 1980 there will be radical changes in the whole world. Why? The changes have the significance of making the world go in accordance with God's will and ours.

This is something similar to the course of the Israelites for the restoration of Canaan. The existing Christian world is the firstborn, and is in the position of the first Israelites in the wilderness, while our group is the second born, and in the position of the second Israelites. We are in the position of Jacob's descendants entering the land of Canaan with all the blessings inherited from their fathers.

The more actively we work, the more swiftly the Christian world will collapse in corruption. What they have achieved, if anything, will be inherited to us., We have many young members in our church; the majority of them are under 30 years of age. Each of you is like Jesus or Jacob in resurrection; you are trying to fulfill what was left unfulfilled by them. You are in the position of Jesus before the age of 30, inheriting his mission at that point to make it a total success. That's why we must have many young members. Most of our members are under 30 -- in their twenties. In recent letters from Japan, we have learned that many teenagers are coming into our church; this is in accordance with the Principle. What's happening in our movement is totally opposite from that which is taking place in the established churches. We don't have many old people here, while in other churches the contrary is true, since the Christian people have not been able to carry out their mission in the providential history of restoration. Do you understand?

We are going to fulfill all these things, but we have the seven tribes of the Canaanites to fight against. These signify the Communist satellite nations. How many satellite nations are there? About twelve now aren't there? The number has multiplied. If the number of the satellite nations becomes more than 12, they are doomed to decline. The Communist leaders in Russia have been Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Malenkov, Bulganin, Kruschev, and Breshnev. They are now on the very highest peak; they cannot go beyond this level. From the eighth leader, or possibly up to the tenth, they are doomed to decline. However, since the number eight is the number of restart on God's side, our side will go upward, fighting a significant battle from 1960 to 1977. Beyond 1980 we will reach a certain peak. From this time, our road will be smooth. When it is examined closely, world history goes in accordance with God's will and the Principle. That is the proof that God exists, and that He loves humanity. Communism started in the year 1917. So, 1977 will be their 60th year. Since the number 60 signifies satanic fulfillment, from this year on, the satanic sovereignty over the world will be taken away. However, they will not fall away easily but will desperately fight in a last ditch attempt to keep their power. So, the year 1977 will be the most crucial year in the history of the United States, and we must be well prepared for that.

Now, let us come to the conclusion. Jacob's course has a historical significance which is connected to us and inherited by us on the world-wide level. We must be ready to pay the toll of indemnity for the restoration of the whole world. Then, our mission is greater than his or Jesus'. Jesus' course was 3 years of public ministry so, centered on this, in order for us to indemnify those years, each of us must have at least 3 years of service before being blessed. Jesus left unaccomplished the restoration of the family, the nation, and the world on the physical level, so we, as his heirs, must fulfill those things both on the physical and spiritual levels. Jacob's seven year course was the fundamental number of providential significance which Jesus would have gone through if he hadn't died. So, it is desirable for us to be ready to go through a seven year course, but if we have not fulfilled our mission within that time, we should be ready to go through a second or even a third seven years.

As for Master, during my first three years of public ministry, just as Jesus did, I had to go through severe hardships culminating in the torture of prison life, which was more for me than Jesus' cross. There in prison I was prepared for the seven year course, indemnifying Jacob's course. I experienced untold difficulties during those 10 years, but by going over the number 10, I entered my second seven year course and then the third, during which time I paved the way for you to go through. In other words, I have laid the foundation for you after having gone through both Jesus' and Jacob's courses, both on the spiritual and physical levels; otherwise, you can never go through the way by your efforts. Your way is going to be much easier and smoother than mine. By your becoming one with me, you can go through the way very easily.

We as the third Israelites are now on the nation wide foundation trying to go over to the next stage; the world wide level. With this mission ahead of us, we are now training ourselves to be strong warriors to win the victory in the frontline. Jacob met his parents and brother whom he had missed for so long, and enjoyed his blessing in peace and harmony only after going through drudgery in Haran. We, too, who are in search of the ideal world must go through the same course by restoring the Cains or Esaus in Haran with ourselves in the position of Abel or Jacob. Men we can meet our True Parents and God, entering life in the world wide level under God's sovereignty. Whether you are still in Haran or at the ford of Jabbok fighting against the archangel, or in the position of trying to subjugate Esau, you must actually experience the agony and pain Jacob had to go through. You must have fiery desire in order to go over the national level, to enter the final stage of the world wide level within 21 years time, or else it will be too late. Something deadly serious might happen.

I am desperate to make our mission a success in due time. Until recent years, the top level people in the Christian churches attacked me in every possible way, while the Communists did the same. But now I am going to counter attack them again. That's why from October I am going to make another public appearance, giving speeches in 21 major cities of the United States. When I wield the sword of words and meet with no counter attack from the satanic side, then victory will be ours. In my third public appearance, I will cover the fifty states. On that foundation you people are going to have public rallies continuously in each of the fifty states. Our Heavenly Father will give you power, and you are going to be more than Billy Graham.

From the year 1977 to 1978 we have got to plant the message of the Divine Principle deep in the hearts of the people all over the country, rooting it deeply into the American soil. Then, the leaders in the Christian world will become so serious as to have to make research on the Divine Principle and our movement, finally becoming one with us. With all Christian denominations united, we will march forward in a joint effort at the time of the end of the world. Then we will have restored the whole nation of the United States. In other words, we have to revitalize Christianity in a joint effort to defend the world from the threat of Communism. These two questions are, of immediate need and have crucial importance. This is Master's view, and I am quite sure that it is right. With this done by us in the United States, this nation will have to use us or put us in the vanguard to conquer the communist power; this is what I see in light of the Divine Principle. It was only after winning over the archangel, that Jacob could come to subjugate Esau. Likewise, for you too it will be only after you win the battle in the Christian democratic world, that you will be able to combat Communism on the world wide level. Let us advance, well armed with the Divine Principle and the Victory Over Communism ideology. Do you understand? [Yes!]

So, whatever opposition you may meet with in the Christian world, or however hard persecution may come from the Communist world, you must feel a great challenge and with a high morale, overcome and conquer the power without difficulty. We must put ourselves in the position of Jacob, thinking that God, who blessed us with the whole world, is now on our side, and we deserve, to enjoy the blessing when we have fulfilled our mission. That is, even though God blessed us, it is not until we complete the mission assigned to us that the blessing will be ours in the truest sense. When you are blessed and cannot fulfill the blessing, you must be fearful of the curse that might fall on you. It would be better for you to die on the way than to end your mission in failure. If you die on the way, still struggling hard to attain the goal, your mission with your blessing will be inherited to your descendants.

However, if your mission ends in failure, you will lose the blessing, with the possibility of a curse coming on you and your descendants. If you find it impossible to realize your mission, you had better die. Would you prefer that? [No!] If you prefer that, don't even think of dying after the failure -- why don't you die now? If you die struggling on the way, that much will be your victory, and your success will be enjoyed by your descendants on the earth plane, and by you in the spirit world. That is our way.

So, we have to make up our minds now! Fight through the satanic world! Are you ready to do that? [Yes!] Hold up your hands in pledge, before God.

[To the Europeans] Are you confident that you can replace the present leaders in your countries? Would you prefer to go back to your nations right after the training course; or would you want to visit the mobile teams in the States? The U. S. has 50 states, so if you spend three days in each state, that means that you would have to spend almost half a year. Why don't you think of visiting the New York center, helping the mobile teams there, instead of visiting 50 states?

Those who have already left for the front line missed opportunities for flower selling and witnessing, so I am thinking of bringing them back sometime in the future to have them go through those things. Everybody and anybody has to go through those things. The American members who came right in the beginning of this training session hold up your hands please. I count sixteen. Is that all?

Now for Alan Wilding, as I see, you have many good qualities and a good brain, but once you are involved in a thing you become too involved and are apt to lose your balance. I want you to hold yourself back sometimes so that you will be stable in going. If you are overwhelmed too much by what you are doing and forget about other people, then you lack the quality of leadership. You have keen observation and are keen in every other way, so sometimes try to be dumb. Am I describing you right? Yes. You are a handsome boy. If you are too concerned about yourself, that's not right. In order to become a qualified leader, you must be more concerned about the members under you than yourself. Take care of them as you would your own children. Right in the midst of temptation you must be like a rock. You must never waiver. You must be able to put things in order in the way you think, say things and act out things. Are your parents alive? Haven't you grown up in a family where there have been conflicts? You must try hard to be harmonized with other men. You have distinct likes and dislikes. Eradicate those things and try to like and love everybody. Canada needs a leader right away. You are the only one who has gone through the training course. But before your taking charge of all of Canada you must go through pioneering work. What other major cities are there besides Toronto? Would you like to go to Montreal and open a center there? [Yes.] Then I want you to work really hard to win more members than they have in the Toronto family.

The sixteen American members will have fulfilled your 40 days training -- the whole thing will be completed by the tenth of June. Those who will not have passed the examination will have to come back some other time. Try your best to pass the examination. You have heard the lectures many times. Master is sure you can study with the Study Guide, and before long the Divine Principle book will come out. The Divine Principle book will have some 600 pages or more. In the Japanese family we have many members who try to memorize the books. Some of them know exactly what is on each page. Among several members, they encourage each other and test each other and tell what is on what page and what portion of the page ("upper right corner, middle, " etc.) If you repeat reading the book, you must memorize the whole thing. If you keep reading the book, you will be touched by the story, and then you can give dynamic lectures to other people.

I like the way Mike Warder delivers his lectures. You must be able to grasp the nature of the lecture, so you must practice how to write on the blackboard, make charts and things like that. But try not to write too much, because it's time consuming. Sometimes you feel it is necessary for you to write things on the blackboard for the newcomers, but this is not necessarily so, because the newcomers are apt to be distracted when you write too much. It is better for you to look into the eyes of the people rather than write. You must know how to handle the atmosphere of the whole group. If you notice someone dozing off in that corner, you can walk to that side and people will feel strange that you are walking to that side. That person can feel your observation of him and come awake. In the public speech you can even pound on the table, but in using gestures you must try to do it naturally. There are many ways possible. You can employ jokes and sometimes even play pantomime in describing God. Let them figure out who or what you are describing. In that case you can hold the audience, and you must be keen in catching their response.

You must know that among the audience, there are people who would feel like objecting to what you are saying. Then, what would you do? Don't wait until that person raises questions and shouts and screams and goes against you. That will break the whole atmosphere. Before he does that, you must attack him by giving your own testimony or another's testimony, by saying "When I first came to this movement, I was skeptical of this point, that point, etc. I was really mad at the lecturer, but then the thought came into my mind that such and such thing really happened, and I was so moved to tears that I had a revelation," and so on. Then he will realize his situation. That can stop a person from questioning. You will see his eyes change. The spiritual war is won by the skill of the lecturer.

If you write too much, your own attention is focused on that, and you want to make sure you are spelling right. You cannot give a lecture heart to heart like that. Mike Warder was in such a hurry he would do this and concentrate on his board work. People will either think it's amusing, funny or strange. Then you would distract their attention. Why not make the chart simple, and don't try to write too much. Try to make everything appear normal, then people's attention will not be distracted. You can even make a quick line sometimes to make an arrow. In making circles too, you can do it quickly. But since you are writing you should write so that everybody can understand. When you deliver a speech or a lecture, some very interesting things are happening. In the spiritual sense, it's something like an electrical current going around through the lecturer. Everybody's response will be different. Ten people may listen, and there are ten ways of response -- like a broadcasting system.

One act of yours, one utterance of yours will be analyzed or criticized by others. You must know that. You must conduct yourself normally. Some wear their ties too short, so that their buttons show. Some wear their neckties too long - covering the belt. When you are here on this platform, if you look normal, tidy, they will forget about your appearance. But if your tie isn't tied right, then they will keep looking at you rather than listening to your words. Some lecturers are lax and powerless, but if some power does not go out from you, the people cannot respond with power or strength. Your lecture must be pointed and forceful, but more than anything else you must have the feeling welling up in your heart of the strenuous effort of our Master in finding the Principle and the agony of our Father's heart in trying to give the Principle to humanity. When you organize a good lecture, you feel Father's heart and the heart of our Master in finding the Divine Principle. If you deliver the lecture with warmth and zeal, they will long to see Master, and already they will feel God's heart.

The most important thing is for you to realize that you are the mediator between God and the audience. You must be able to relay what they are to God. You must let them know that the center of this truth is Master. The center of the truth and Master is, in turn, God. If you fail to do that, in a way, your lecture is a failure. You have to introduce God there; God is everything - there are so many materials for you to introduce God through when you talk about give and take action, three stages of growth, purpose of creation. Don't forget - you have to be the spokesman of God and you put yourself in the position of God and Master, and then put your heart and determination into your lecture. The knack of it is to express what the persons need most.

You have President Kim and Master with you, but are you more concerned with Master or with President Kim's test? [Master.] That's true, but why is it so? You spend more time with President Kim than with Master. It is because, Master, gives You words with heart, and he has love and life to give you. So, when, you give lectures, you must be like that. If, after giving the Principle of Creation, you notice that there is a good response from the audience, you can ask the question, "Are you touched to the heart by this Principle?" Then if you have an answer from them in the affirmative, you can go on, saying, "In this dark world there has come a light of truth: the first one who brought the light and the truth had to go through great difficulty" -- you can introduce Master right there. Some of them who are receptive to truth and who have been waiting will be able to sense the depth of this message. There have been people who have been longing to see the central figure, so they must feel cautious. in order to see if he is the person they have been longing for. You can introduce Master in many places in the lecture in such a way that will move their hearts to feel God for the first time.

You have to connect God to the audience. If they come into contact with God, then the spirit world can help them. Those who are sent to the field, when they fail in their position, it is because they forget that they are in the position of mediator to connect God and Master that they put themselves in the central position. Don't forget that you are the mediator between God and man, and the mediator must sometimes go to God and help Him, and sometimes go to man and help console him, and go back and forth. When a tree wants to grow wholesomely, the trunk must play the role of the mediator. With action it becomes wholesome and purposeful. The quicker the action is the more the tree is a tree of life.

Don't say to yourself that you have to be a good lecturer, not only that but you must say to yourself that you must be a good mediator between God and man. In hoping to be a good lecturer, you are already forgetting how to connect God and man, and you are apt to place yourself in the position of Satan. You want to become the master of the people, master of the lectures, and then you cannot be better. You are substituting Master, but you are not Master himself. Do you understand? (Yes. ) You should want to be a good lecturer, but more than that you must be trying to be a good mediator.

Whenever you have good things to eat good things to use, right at that very moment you must feel that it belongs to God and in your heart you must return it to God, and then you will receive it back from Him.

When you think of God, then think of your members before thinking of yourself. If you don't think of the members, their thoughts and love are not coming to you. If you are in the position of God, would you feel like helping the person who doesn't mind about you? If you are in the subjective position, you must give out. It's the core of the things and the formula. You must go through that and realize that. However hungry you may be, at one glance when you eat the dish, you must think of God and be thankful to Him. Say to yourself, "I am eating this for the sake of my members and my family", then God will be there helping you. You must think of the people who are starving to death and you must say to yourself "I must eat this because I need energy to save the people and reach out to the people." But you are apt to forget about these things. If you go somewhere, you say to yourself, "I am going there for the sake of God and for the sake of humanity."

Some doze off like this. Are you dozing off for the sake of someone? You are dozing for the sake of Satan, not for the sake of God! At this very moment there are many people dying and leaving this earth. You must be anxious to save them. Even after dozing off; you must think, "I am doing this for the sake of God and man, but the next moment when I wake up I will work harder." You want to rest, but for whom are you resting? You must not rest for the sake of yourself, but for the sake of God's will. You must train yourself like that, whatever you see, whatever you think and hear will be in accordance with God's will. Everything coming to you will be a goad stimulus, while bad things will be shut out.

In, giving gestures too, which of the two gestures would be more influential: to shout with force, or with much more force like this. When you say "let us all gather our strength [motioning], every utterance of yours and motion and gesture; everything will add up to make the strength of your speech. When you gesture, try to put 50% or more of your power in the gesture if you are going to use it at all. If you want to have that kind of gesture, you must feel that you can pierce through the hearts of the people. When karate people break bricks, it is from their spirit and mentality more than their physical strength, because they believe that they can do that. If you just say God's words, then it's too weak, but God's dramatic movements pierce through their hearts. So, you must practice haw to deliver God's speech and how to deliver the lecture. People will think it strange if you shout at the top of your voice if you don't know the contents.

I trained the late President Eu directly, and told him "Even though you have only two or three persons, or even one person, you must shout out as though you would to hundreds and thousands of people." He gave ten hours or more of lectures every day, without a day off for months. Sometimes he was so tired lie would rest and I would say to him, "Don't you realize that at this very moment many people are dying off? You are the only lecturer as I now have, so can you rest? You must be anxious to raise more lecturers." You must train yourself that well. Do you really feel that there is a God? Are you honest? [Yes!] In what way do you feel him? Do you have Him in your brain, or feeling in your heart? You must have both. At the moment you think of Him, you must be able to feel a power welling up in your heart. With that in your heart don't worry about what kind of lecture you are going to give; God will, help you. You have your antennae, your bridge to God, and if you tune up yourself with some of the channels, you can reach to God. In that case you are going to have a keen sense.

When you walk on the street, you are going to know that you will meet a certain person, but on the way you may feel like turning back because you sense some evil power is bothering you. You must overcome this with your will when you sense it happening. Then you can save the person. You either go there and fill some indemnity condition or turn back. There is a strict law of indemnity for you to have to go through, but you don't know that exactly.

Those who doze off are not with a sense of responsibility, because they have grown under a leader who doesn't have the sense of responsibility. (Pointing, to someone in the audience found dozing) Who is your leader? Were you raised in a family where you had brothers and sisters? Your parents were not strict enough? Either your, parents spoiled you with love or you were too strong not to be influenced by them. Dozing off means that you don't know how to be polite. By dozing off you can influence other people in bad ways. Sooner or later you are going to give the lecture, and if you stand on the platform and look at people and some are dozing off, would you like that? After dozing off, when you wake up you must at least feel ashamed, then you cannot doze off again. The law of indemnity would tell you that if you doze off when the lecturer is giving his lecture, then when you give the lecture, many people will doze off. How do you like that idea? When the water is muddy at upstream, the water downstream must be muddy too. So, if you as the leader would have that kind of laxness, your members will be influenced tike that.

Even now, as always, Master feels ashamed when he fails to keep time to attend any place. You had better not come to the lecture if you are not sure you will be wide awake through the lecture. Every misconduct of yours will defame your family, your leader, your friends, you neighbors. I saw you dozing off very often. When you doze off, remember that that's the channel for Satan to reach you. Do you understand? If you are on the platform you will see three or more dozing off, and it will be contagious. Then, you have to stop that condition. As a lecturer, you must wake them up before going any further. As a leader, you must be able to move the hearts of the people. So, if you are not alert, enthusiastic or with ardor in everything, you can never move the hearts of the people - that's what you must remember.

If you are supposed to become a good artist, you have to repeat painting pictures. There is no other way but practice. Repeat and practice the lectures so you can be a good lecturer, but knowing how to move the hearts of the people is more important. The more you shed tears in giving the lecture, the more you can move the hearts of the people. First you must shed tears for your own sake in repentance. Then for the sake of the members. Why is it so? It is because man fell and the central figures had to shed tears, and through the way of tears we reach back to the original status -- cleansing ourselves. Right after Adam and Eve had been driven out of the Garden of Eden, they began to cry. The tears came first after the fall, so in the course of restoration too, we must reach God in tearfulness and in repentance. Have you ever been so serious as to cry for, the sake of God, for the sake of yourself, and for the sake of your members? Have you ever wept for the sake of your nation -- for the world? You must know that God has been tearing all through history for the sake of His lost children. In the parable when the shepherd has lost one sheep out of one hundred, he feels loss and sorrow, and goes out in search of the lost one. If you give the lecture with tearful eyes, that's the only way you can reach out to the peoples' hearts.

The only two points which you must remember in order for you to be good lecturers are: listen to more lectures from more people, and practice so many times as to become good in delivering a powerful lecture. Then be a lecturer who can deliver with heart, sweat and tears. You, yourself, must shed tears right on the platform or else you cannot make people cry. For people joining this movement, cutting off their tie with the satanic world is a revolutionary thing. So, how can you influence the people to do that without tears and a throbbing heart? I think you have only a vague notion of what heaven is and what the kingdom of God entails. If you have a clear notion of what the boundary is between good and evil and hell and heaven, and if you really know that and know that people are at the verge of life and death, you cannot but be serious. In order for you to be a really good leader, you must try hard remembering these points.

I want to advise you in something, Michael Warder. You have a good brain and so you are going to be a good lecturer, but don't ever stop at that point. After that you must have heart. A man with a keen sense of observation and good brains is apt to be critical. You may lack sympathy, and you must also have warmth. Before criticizing or analyzing a person try to embrace him as a whole, embracing his advantages and disadvantages too, and then analyze or criticize him in such a way as to be able to correct his mistakes. When you give the lectures, it means you are giving the words to them, and in that case you must become the incarnation of the words. After the lecture you must have the person feeling like coming to you for consolation and advice. You are honest, and you must try to be equipped for those things. Intellectual people are apt to calculate and think in such a way as to expect a return from each action. But if you don't lose things first, and give out things to him, you cannot get it back or have more things returned to you. The quality of leadership is very simple: you want to give out unconditionally or at least give out more than the person will give you. Then he would feel like coming back to you with more things. Then, when other people don't mind about him and are sympathetic to him, then you look for the loneliest person and try to warm his heart. You would sit up the whole night forgetting to sleep and eat because of that person. Don't ever tell the persons who are in need of you that "This is my breakfast time and I am sorry that I have only five minutes to talk with you." Know how to grasp the time and think "for this person, this is the only moment I can give him life, or else he will die." You must feel that urgency. That's what you are lacking. So, I want you to bear that in mind.
