Immediately following Reverend Moon's 21-city Day of Hope tour the International One World Crusade teams for the 32-city Day of Hope tour were launched. Seven teams of 70 each were given itineraries for four or five two-week campaigns in preparation for the Day of Hope programs. The opening banquet and speech in Portland, Maine established an excellent foundation for this new tour, with about 500 guests attending the speech.

Members of the Unification Church publications department attended the Day of Hope speech in Wilmington, Delaware. On arrival at the stately DuPont Hotel, we were greeted by members of the New Hope Singers and the mobile staff. Excitement filled the air. We talked to a radiant Charles Hart, whose stepson had previously joined the Unification Church. The week before, Mr. Hart had come to the Unification Church center and heard the lectures on the Divine Principle from Joe Stein, a member of Reiner Vincenz's IOWC team. He had been a born-again Christian for two years and then his wife and son began praying for him to be open to a new understanding of God and His will at this time. But until the previous week he had resisted.

"At the Day of Hope dinner last night I wanted to cry," he said. "I prayed, 'God, please give these people a clear mind that they may be open to what you have to say.' I felt Reverend Moon looking at me, and I thought, how can I explain something that I have longed for all my life and have now begun to experience? It's so wonderful."

"It has been tremendous to have the Day of Hope campaign here,'.' said Miss Nan Crist, who has been acting as state representative of the Unification Church in Delaware. She reported that the previous night the state Lieutenant Governor came to the Day of Hope dinner and read a message on the Governor's behalf. There were many distinguished guests and a writer who is psychically gifted had invited many of her friends from all over the East Coast to the dinner.

At the dinner, Reverend Moon recalled the story of Caesar Rodney, an 18th century Delaware patriot, who despite severe illness rode through the night to Philadelphia to be among the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Reverend Moon spoke for about 30 minutes at the dinner, on such subjects as subject/object relations, love, and the role of the family. Tony DiMarco of the Day of Hope mob· e staff noted that the results of the 32-city tour have been better than the previous one. "The response of the people is better," he said. "Now we are reaping the benefits of the hard work that has gone before."

From the point of view of the Delaware One World Crusade commander, the Day of Hope campaign "looked like a dream -- a very good dream." Mr. Guido Lombardi feels very responsible to all the people who came to the programs. "It is an incredible responsibility all at once. I helped in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. on the last tour. There I was the one who was to give; here I can receive. It is difficult to take the attitude of a loving parent to all the people. I wish I had enough experience to bring them all to the Heavenly Father."

According to Mr. Marc Lee, chief of the mobile staff, "the people who came to the banquet were extremely responsive people, and rather conservative. There was a good spiritual foundation laid by Mr. Vincenz and his IOWC team. All details of preparation were taken care of."

The Day of Hope singers opened with "Praise to the Lord the Almighty," a new arrangement by their director, Mr. Randy Remmel. In new long white gowns and tuxedos they lifted the spirits of the audience. They continued with the "Kyrie" from Schubert's Mass in D and an original arrangement of "Ezekiel Saw a Wheel."

Mr. Neil Salonen, President of the Unification Church of America, introduced the evening's program with a brief description of the life of Reverend Moon and read an announcement of Mr. Thomas C. Maloney, Mayor of Wilmington, proclaiming the week of February 25 through March 4 a week of hope and unification, urging the citizens to devote themselves to brotherhood. The audience was reminded of an observation of de Tocqueville, a French visitor to the United States a century ago: "America is great because it is good. When it ceases to be good, it will cease to be great."

Reverend Moon, speaking through his interpreter, Mr. Bo Hi Pak, began his speech: "God spoke to me in 1972 and told me to go to America and speak to America for three years. I told God I didn't even have the language to speak. He told me to go anyway."

We need a new message

A warm, embracing atmosphere pervaded Reverend Moon's speech, punctuated by his characteristic gestures. According to the unofficial notes from his speech, he said, in part: "Some of you may have come by train to Wilmington. You don't have to worry about anything until get here, but after you arrive, you have to find your own way home. Christianity is like this. It has now arrived at its destination, and we must find our own way from here. The old way of thinking that has been good enough for so long no longer suffices. It is my proclamation that the day of fulfillment is here. We need a new message from God.

"Why does Christ come? He comes for salvation. The fallen people of the world must be restored. Also, he comes to fulfill the will of God."

Reverend Moon described the will of God in terms of God's original ideal in creating the world and the effects of the fall of man, which created an evil world, with false parents, false children, and the dominion of evil instead of goodness. God's work since the fall has been the work of restoration. "God's will has been the realization of a world of goodness and perfection. God cannot change His will."

The Messiah comes not just for the Christians or for the churches, but for all mankind, Reverend Moon explained. "The Christians are the instruments of God. They are to unite with the Messiah and fulfill the will of God."

"Any blessing comes with a responsibility. To be a Christian is a blessing. But along with it is a responsibility to fulfill God's will-to bring the world back to God. God is our Father. There can be no room for fighting among Christians, who are His children."

A coded message

The Bible is the record of the communication of God to His chosen people, Reverend Moon added. But it is written in code. It may be compared to the intelligence activity of some country. The intelligence agency has a code which it uses to communicate with its agents, in order to protect the interests of the nation. Similarly, the Bible is written in symbols and parables. If God had spoken clearly, it could be used by the enemy against God's people. This is why we now see some 450 different denominations, each with different Bible interpretations.

Reverend Moon explained that before God sends the Messiah, He prepares a people to receive him, a "landing pad." "These people must be united in love with the Messiah so they can protect the Messiah, even at the cost of their lives. For that purpose God chose the nation of Israel. And now, for 2,000 years, Christianity has been pre· pared as that landing pad. "But how many Christians today can really protect and unite with the Messiah, even unto the point of their own death? Can they unite with the Messiah at the cost of their own nation, or at the cost of their own lives?"

Reverend Moon mentioned the widespread eagerness to know how the Lord will appear. Jesus said, "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only." (Matt. 24:36) So, to find out the manner of the Lord's return, we must either find it out from God (through communication with God) or by studying history. However, few people have direct communication with God. Therefore, Reverend Moon said he would use a study of history-Biblical his· tory-to communicate a new revelation from God.

"We can see parallel situations. Two thousand years ago, the Jews were anxiously awaiting the coming of the Messiah. Today, Christians are anxiously awaiting Christ's return. Two thousand years ago, the Jewish people's desire was much greater than that of today's Christians, for God had given them the promise of the Messiah 4,000 years before. Also, they were under tremendous bondage and deeply longed for God to send them a liberator.

"Two thousand years ago, God fulfilled His promise. He sent His Son. But nobody received him. He was rejected, and nailed to a cross. It is as if the Messiah that you are expecting to come in this age came and the Christian leaders banded together against him and put him in jail and killed him. That is the exact parallel in today's society.

"Therefore, we need to know exactly what happened in Jesus' time, and why such a tragedy occurred. You may say to me, 'You don't know anything; Jesus came to die.' But, I ask, if God wanted to send His Son to die, why did God wait for 4,000 years? Why did He call a chosen people? Why did He send prophets to them? In fact, God could have sent His Son to a barbarian nation, and he could have died much more quickly. Did God's only son have to be sent to earth merely to die?

"We know that God worked very hard to prepare His people to accept the Messiah. Then why didn't they accept him? Because they didn't know him.

Elijah's return prophesied

"The faithful Jews wanted to accept the Messiah, but their scriptures would not let them do it. The last book in the Old Testament is a prophecy of Malachi. It is similar to Revelation, the last book of the New Testament. In Malachi 4:5-6 we read: 'Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes. And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the land with a curse.'

"Here God promised to send Elijah before the coming of the Messiah. Elijah was a prophet who lived 900 years before Christ. He ascended to heaven in a chariot of fire. So the people expected Elijah to return, out of the blue sky, on a chariot of fire. (In the same way, Christians today are looking for Jesus to come out of the blue sky). The Jews expected Elijah to come on a chariot and say, 'That man is the son of God.' If Elijah comes and testifies to someone as the son of God, the Israeli people will accept him.

"But then one day a young man named Jesus appeared and said, 'Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.' The people who were loyal to the Old Testament could not accept Jesus' words as truth, because they thought the Messiah had not yet come. People asked, 'How could this man be the son of God?' Even today, according to the Jewish faith, Elijah has not yet come back. Therefore, for the Jews today, the Messiah has not yet come. Jesus was not the Messiah, but just a prophet.

"When Jesus' disciples went out to the streets to witness to the people that Jesus was the son of God, the people asked, 'how can your master be the Messiah? Elijah has not yet come.'

"In Matthew 17: 10, Jesus' disciples asked him, 'Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?' In other words, they were asking, 'Is John the Baptist Elijah?' John the Baptist did not come in a chariot like the one that took Elijah into heaven. John the Baptist was like everyone else-he was born of a woman. They were just like the people today who expect Jesus to come on the clouds of heaven. When a man comes in the flesh saying that he is the son of God, they can't believe it.

"Jesus was speaking to the people with power and authority proclaiming the Kingdom of God. The leaders had to do something about him. So they decided to send emissaries to John the Baptist to find out once and for all who he was. 'And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?" He confessed, he did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ." And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the prophet?" And he answered, "No."' (John 1: 19-21) "John the Baptist denied that he was Elijah. He denied the words of Jesus. He ~ prophet, who was supposed to know the will of God, made Jesus seem to be a liar. John the Baptist, who came to prepare a people to receive the Lord, was now doomed.

"Tonight the Bible has a new meaning. The faithful Jews read their Bible faithfully. However, they wanted to interpret the Bible literally. They did not know the secret message, the coded message. There is room for some sympathy for the faithful Jews. But John the Baptist, who was a prophet of God, came to show the will of God to the people. He had no excuse.

Blessed is he who takes no Offense

"In Matthew 11:2-3, we find John imprisoned for getting involved in a scandal with King Herod. He sent two disciples to Jesus and asked, 'Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?' At the Jordan River, when he baptized Jesus, John was filled with the Holy Spirit. He testified of Jesus saying, 'This is the Lamb of God.' Now he was saying, 'Is this the Messiah, or shall we go elsewhere?' If he had died proclaiming that Jesus was the son of God, he would have died as an honored martyr. But he didn't. When Jesus heard John's question, he refused to answer directly. He said, 'Blessed is he who takes no offense at me.'"

Reverend Moon continued with an exegesis of Jesus' comments concerning John in Matthew 11. Because he rejected Jesus, John became less than the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus said, "For all the law and the prophets prophesied until John.'' In other words, John the Baptist came to earth as the consummation of the Old Testament, and to bring the entire Old Testament tradition to Jesus, so Jesus could consummate his ministry. Yet John failed to follow Jesus, so Jesus chose his disciples from among the fishermen and the harlots.

"You may ask," Reverend Moon continued, "on what authority am I speaking? I met Jesus Christ. I met John the Baptist. I confirmed this truth by their words. Then I read the Bible again. The Bible has an entirely new light now. One day you will know the truth-because heaven will be yours, and heaven will be your home. But blessed is he who knows the· truth while on the face of the earth.

"The Jewish people were waiting for the coming of the son of man on the clouds of heaven. Why? Because they interpreted literally Daniel 7: 13: 'I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him.' People try to explain that this prophecy was intended for the second coming of Christ. But, as I explained before, all the Old Testament was culminated in John. It was to be fulfilled then.

"Jesus came from the home of Joseph and Mary. II John 7 reads, 'For many deceivers have gone out into the world, men who will not acknowledge the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh; such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist.' Some denied that Jesus was the son of God just because he came in the flesh. The writer of John says that these people are the antichrist. If the people of Israel had accepted Jesus as the Messiah, starting with John the Baptist, Jesus would not have had to die on the cross. Even Pilate wanted to free Jesus because he could find no fault in him.

"The apostle Paul has been regarded as the greatest champion of Christian history. His name before his conversion was Saul-he was an enemy of Jesus and ruthlessly persecuted every follower of Jesus. But when he was converted, he saw the truth. He wrote, 'None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.' (I Cor. 2: 8) Therefore, the crucifixion of Jesus was the result of the ignorance of the people.

Man has the ability to betray God

"Within the Old Testament are dual prophecies: a Lord of glory and a Lord of suffering. Why? Because man has the ability to betray God. He is unpredictable.

One day a man will profess faith in God and the next day will follow Satan. But even then, God must work with such men. Therefore He gave two kinds of prophecies: Isaiah 9, 11, and 60 and also Isaiah 53. Because the Jewish people did not demonstrate faith in Jesus, the second prophecy was fulfilled, and the prophecy for the Lord of glory was unfulfilled.

"When was Jesus' mission altered from its primary course to a secondary course? In Luke 9:30-31 we read: 'And behold, two men talked with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was to accomplish at Jerusalem.' This was the moment of decision to go to the cross. Jesus was to give up his body for the salvation of the spirit. If Jesus came with the sole mission of dying on the cross, he would not have prayed a prayer of weakness, 'Father let this cup pass from me.' Peter begged to be nailed to a cross upside down, and many courageous people have overcome fear of death. Why couldn't Jesus, if it was God's highest purpose for him? In addition, if the sole mission of Jesus was to die, then his betrayer Judas should have been a very important person. But Jesus did not honor Judas."

Reverend Moon continued with an explanation of the reason for Jesus' sorrow while praying in the Garden of Gethsemane before his death. He knew that his death on the cross was an alteration of his mission. He knew the consequences -- that the Jewish nation would suffer, that his followers would suffer. All this has happened. "If Jesus had fulfilled his mission, we today would be living in the kingdom of heaven. The evil world would have been demolished long ago. The many different Christian churches would have been unheard of. We would all be citizens of the kingdom of heaven and we would be living in the presence of God.

"But as a result of the crucifixion, Satan took Jesus' body, and physical salvation was not accomplished. Christians have only spiritual salvation. Jesus Christ is King of King only in a spiritual sense. "There is no nation where God can exercise His sovereignty on earth. The cross was the victory of Satan, not God. There was only one defender of Jesus-the criminal on his right side. Yet, he was also killed with Jesus.

"Spiritual salvation has come by the resurrection of Jesus. This is where Christianity was born. So we take our faith and our salvation from the resurrection of Christ. This was God's victory.

History repeats itself

"All this is the background of the first coming of Christ. You are interested in the second coming. It is commonly said that history repeats itself. Jesus Christ came to fulfill the total mission of the Messiah, but since the people did not give him the opportunity to do it, it remain unfulfilled.

"There was a dual prophecy for Jesus' coming. Likewise, in the New Testament there is also a dual prophecy for the second coming. This is a prophecy coded in symbols.

In Revelation 1:7 we read: 'Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him.' And in I Thessalonians 5:2 we read, '.For you yourselves know well that "The day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.' ''Will you accept only the clouds prophecy and deny that the Lord will come as a thief in the night? Who will decide which is true? Can you say, 'We will welcome the first and deny the second prophecy'?

"Tonight it is my recommendation that in this time we must be wise. In meekness let us accept both possibilities. The Lord can come with the clouds of heaven, but he can also come in the flesh, like a thief at night. If he comes with the clouds of heaven, the whole world will know him. But if you are humble enough to accept the son of man coming in the flesh, you are blessed."

Reverend Moon quoted Revelation 12:5, "She brought forth a male child, one who is to rule all nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne." Many Christians interpret the "she" as the church, because their minds are already set that the Lord is coming with the clouds of heaven. But Reverend Moon also read Luke I 7:20-22, in which Jesus said the son of man is not coming with signs to be observed, and Luke 17:25-26, in which it is predicted that the son of man must suffer, and that the day of his coming will toe like Noah's day. If he is coming on the clouds of heaven these prophecies could never happen. "If Christians fix their minds to look up to the clouds of heaven, the son of God will surely be rejected," Reverend Moon explained.

He also quoted Luke 18:8, in which Jesus wondered whether the son of man would find faith on earth when he returned, and Matthew 7:21-23, in which Jesus predicted that many people with great spiritual gifts would be rejected by the Lord when he returns, because they didn't do the will of the Father. Why is this?

"When the Lord appears in the world as a humble man of the flesh," Reverend Moon explained, "he will be persecuted. However, he will later be lifted up to the throne of God, from which he will judge the people. But then it will be too late, because those people have done evil. They will be cast away.

"God is love. He proclaims that before this day comes, He will announce the truth, by His servants the prophets. Therefore He is declaring by this person, Reverend Moon, what will happen."

Reverend Moon concluded his speech with a review of God's purpose for Adam and Eve and how they fell. "God must restore the perfect Adam, the Father of mankind. Then after the restoration of the perfect Adam, it was necessary for Him to restore a perfected bride for him, perfected Eve. Then they would become the heavenly ancestors for man. That was the purpose for the coming of the Messiah." He explained that Jesus came in the position of Adam (I Cor. 15:45), but that he was killed before he could restore a bride in the position of perfect Eve. Now, God is sending to this world the Messiah, as a perfected Adam, who will restore a perfected Eve. This is recorded in the book of Revelation as the marriage supper of the Lamb.

"Then, for the first time in history, God will have His foothold on earth. Then He can share His perfection with us. We expect the Messiah to come again. We must not reject him-we must accept him."

After the 1973 Day of Hope campaign, members of the Unification Church and One World Crusade met at the Sheraton-Lanham Hotel near Washington, D.C. for a conference. Reverend Moon selected seven new International One World Crusade units who will organize the Day of Hope campaigns in 32 cities, from February 15 to April 20, 1974. Reverend Moon will be speaking on "The New Future of Christianity."

In the early days of the Unification Church in Korea, I would take members to every mountain, field, creek, and river, in order to completely know the country; we would meet in the very tip of North Korea and walk to the very tip of South Korea. The purpose was to train the members. We sacrificed food and sleep for one goal- the salvation of the world.

Once in Japan, three of our members were assigned to make friends with the then Prime Minister Mr. Kishi. Every day, rain or shine, the three girls visited his office. When they knew his schedule in advance, they went ahead to prepare for him, smiling and waiting. As time went by, the initial hostility of Mr. Kishi and his staff began to melt. Such sacrificial service as these girls gave exists nowhere else. The first time one of the girls talked to him personally, she said, "Your staff treated me so badly. But I love you and have come to serve you. I ask God to forgive them. Our members are in the streets, witnessing and selling flowers to help save Japan from an ungodly ideology so we can bring heaven here. I have come to you to get your advice. You are a great leader. Can't you give us leadership?" He was struck; his conscience was hurt. He had never seen such patriotism. He began telling his friends, "There are some very strange, very different young people. Have you met them?" And everybody tried to figure out who he was talking about.

In America the youth are undisciplined. We need world citizens. People from other lands have come to America for the benefit of America. The nations of Germany and Japan used to be enemies of America. When international members come to America, I tell them, "Work for America more than you work for your own country." In three years we can create a heavenly tradition in America growing like a volcano.

I know that you sometimes feel lonely. You need that training. You need to sustain that loneliness and overcome misery. You must think, God called me to stand up as His champion. To you, everyone should appear as your own family member. If you leave your parents, brothers, sisters, and children, you must serve everybody as your parents, brothers, sisters, and children. I assure you that if you give this service in the name of God, someone will love you as mother, father, child, brother, and sister. If that does not happen, don't worry. God knows you.

Conviction is the most powerful force. There can be no negative thinking. In the Unification Church nothing is impossible. You can always do 100 times more than the impossible thing.

Always compare your faith with the greatest things. When you see a mountain, think, my faith is bigger than that mountain. When you see the ocean, think, my faith is deeper than that ocean. When you see the sky, always think, my faith is bigger than the sky. I know that God is a living reality. Many miracles have shown it to me. Don't be burdened by your work. Be bubbling and full of enthusiasm. Then all kinds of miracles will happen.

Safeguard the Unified Front

I wish you a happy new year. As I announced, the years 1972, 1973, and 1974 are the most crucial and most historical years in the providence of God. In 1972 and 1973, we mobilized only a handful of people, but we have done quite a lot of things in the significance of God's providence. Centered upon this land of America, we are going to develop the providence of God with our own efforts. God has been preparing this nation for that purpose. But we now see clearly that this nation is stagnated, with no opening to the everlasting future. The rest of the nations in the world are also stagnated, in a sense.

But can we find a breakthrough, or a nation where we can actualize the providence of God, other than the United States? We can safely say, "No." But within this nation, there doesn't seem to be any breakthrough; there doesn't seem to be anyone who can lead this nation through this dead end. We know too well that in the material sense, this nation is blessed. But otherwise, in spirit, there is nothing in this nation excelling others.

We can expect only religious groups to restore this nation. Among all religions, we expect Christianity to do the job. But in this nation, the Christian leaders lack the hope of doing the job, and we have to look for another. Christian society is now faced with corruption and decay. There is no denomination or religious sect that can carry out the job. There is no group that will save this nation, and eventually the whole world. In this reality, if there is any such group at all, it is going to be our group. We have already proclaimed that we are going to save this nation and the nations of the whole world, and not only this world, but the spirit world. We are going to liberate the whole cosmos from satanic bondage, and liberate God and have Him take His Sabbath.

Beginning from the year 1972, our motto for two years was the same: "Let us safeguard the Unified Front." When we said this, we did not mean ourselves as individuals, or as a nation, but the whole world. When we say, "Let us safeguard the Unified Front," it means we will protect ourselves, our nation as a whole, and the whole world from satanic invasion.

Safeguard by advancing forward

Seen from that viewpoint, you must realize how important and how vital we, the individuals in our family are. We are in the position to take the responsibility over the population of the whole world. We must again realize that God is relying upon us to carry out the mission of saving the whole world. Then would God want you to stop right where you are, or advance forward? Can we safeguard our unified front just stopping where we are? No. Only by advancing forward can we safeguard the unified front. We are the starting point of God's hope, the fruition of His hope, and the realization of His ideal. Whether or not you will bring failure to God's project or success to His providence will rest solely on you. We want to have God be happy and say, "You have done a good job."

I think God is looking at the United States right now. If our group was not here, God would be a disappointed God. But He has hope, and we must realize again how important our mission is. We must cling to this nation and not let go until we realize our mission here. We must make the whole world great in the project of God. If you are firmly re solved to make this nation the leading one of the democratic world, God will work ahead of us, paving the way for us to go. If we carry out the mission in this nation, God will rely on us and will pave the way for the rest of the nations too.

We must have God indebted to us

Up to now, religious sects have fought for only individual salvation. We cannot follow their example. Instead of being indebted to anyone, even to God, we must have God indebted to us. We must be newly resolved to save not only this nation, but the other nations of the whole world. And in doing that, we must advance forward. Day and night, asleep or awake, whatever you do or wherever you go, you must bear in mind that you are responsible for the salvation of this nation. If there is a God, wouldn't He want you to do that?

In safeguarding the Unified Front, what are you going to do? You must never even think that the United States exists solely for you, but that you exist for the United States. You cannot expect this nation to safeguard you, so you are going to safeguard this nation. We are pioneering this nation to save this nation. So we cannot expect others to help us, but we must be ready to help this nation.

We have mind and body. Our mind should be associated with God, but now it separated from God. So we must unite God and our mind. Without making it possible, we are not qualified enough to safeguard the Unified Front. Our minds must be one with God's will. God's will is to save the United States and the whole world. So our will also must be to save the whole world.

We must be attentive to follow God

God advances forward, going straight ahead, without vacillating. Then we must be attentive to follow God, going straight ahead on the front. My mind and God's mind must become one; and God's will and our will must become one in unity. So without any vacillation we must be strongly resolved to be one with God. With our mind united with God, our body must become one with that kind of mind. Our mind is plus in relation to our body, but our mind must be one with God. God's mind and our mind put together must play the role of plus, attracting our body in the position of minus. Then our body must be positioned with God. Our body has five senses. Its five physical senses must function in accordance with God's will. In our every action we must go steadily on towards the goal set before us by God. In that case, God will abide in us, directing us towards the goal.

The Unified Front begins right here. If there is disunity, between our mind and God's mind, in proportion to the rupture or disunion, our way to advance is blocked. If our mind is separated from God and our body separated from our mind, there are two gaps to be breached. Then it is difficult for us to fill up the gaps. Darkness is liable to infiltrate. Satan can encroach there. We must safeguard ourselves right there.

Unified Front: our mind unified with God

By Unified Front, we mean that our mind is unified with God. Unity between the three-God, our mind, and our body- is most important. If these three are in harmonious unity, give and take between the three will multiply, and the four positions will be established (God, mind, body, oneness). From this viewpoint, we can say that when we safeguard the Unified Front, first of all we must unify our mind with God and our body with our mind, making those three one.

If you are asked whether you have created that base, what will be your answer? Have those three elements become one in yourself? If you are still in disunity, God will be disappointed, and God will be a sad God. Then He must work hard to encourage us to do the job. You will find yourself not quite helping God, for God will still be helping you, trying hard to create within you a unity with Him. Then we conclude that we do not safeguard the Unified Front at all; rather God Himself does that and will do that for us.

When we think of that, we have no time to lose; we cannot afford to think of ourselves. We must be able to use our five senses at any moment for the will of God. When you analyze and criticize yourself, you know how qualified you are for the job, and you cannot relax. You know too well that God has been putting out His whole effort to locate persons like Jesus, or the Messiah, who will accomplish the unity between his mind and God's mind, and then bring his mind and body together. But in us He cannot find any such unity. So you must realize that you are making God a sad God. God who was disappointed all those thousands of years is relying on us. He finds the possibility of unity among ourselves and the salvation of the world through our efforts.

God's will demands sacrifice of us

Then are you qualified for that, and are you confident for the job? Are your eyes, nose, mouth, ears, functioning for the will of God alone? God's will demands sacrifice of us, and if you seek after the pleasure of your eyes, nose, and mouth- that's not the right way. When you think of that, you must always shrink back, saying you are not satisfactory in God's sight, you have to do more and more. Even though you cannot make your mind and body one with God, by your own efforts, you must pray to God to create that unity in you.

You must become a handful of clay out of which God can create another self. No other way is possible. If you go by your own will, God cannot re-create you. That's why Jesus truly said, "Whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it" (Matt. 16:25). Your eyes, nose, mouth, and all your five senses, including your body, have satanic elements. We must remove from ourselves the inherent satanic elements. We must leave everything in God's hands. If He pushes us, we will go forward; if He pulls us backward, we will go that way; and in every direction, we will be led by God. If you leave yourselves alone, you will be distracted and go astray.

God has been working hard for us

The most fearful thing in the whole world is you yourself, because you are the abode of Satan. You are easily dragged away by Satan; you have walked in accordance with satanic will. We have been proclaiming, "Let us safeguard the Unified Front." But we find that we have not been safeguarding the Unified Front; we have been safeguarded by someone above. We must realize that God has been working hard for us, and we are indebted to Him greatly. We must be strongly resolved that from this moment, when the year 1974 is dawning, we refuse to let God help us and safeguard us any longer. We will do the job by ourselves. We must do the job, and then, in the subjective position, save our brothers and sisters, save our nation, and save other nations around us.

Suppose there is a man whose mind is entirely one with God. With those two united, his body, which is in the objective position, will become one with them in harmonious unity. So he is a perfected man. He cannot stand all by himself however, he needs his mate. So there must be a woman in the same position, with her mind one with God and her body one with those two. In other words, after having realized the unity in yourself, then you must locate a spouse with whom to be united into one. If every individual accomplishes unity between these three elements, and if that kind of individual is multiplied, there will be no need for safeguarding the Unified Front, because the unity is already created there.

Well, what about the couples? Are you in perfect unity like that? If you have not realized that much, it means that you are not safeguarding the Unified Front, and God still has to safeguard you through toil and effort. In a couple, if either one has realized that unity, the other must be in utter obedience to him or her. In a family if the husband and wife are one with each other, then the husband (the subject) and the wife (the object) become one and play the role of plus towards their children, in the position of minus. If parents and children become one with each other, then the whole unit will become the plus, influencing other families.

Branches must cling to the trunk

If unity is not created in your family, you are not safeguarding the Unified Front in your family, but you are having God safeguarding your family. If so, it will create great trouble for the rest of the world. If any such family in harmonious unity is created, then that family must play the role of plus to the other families in its clan, and with all the families in its clan united in the role of plus, then other clans must be influenced and absorbed to that clan in the position of objects. There is only one trunk. If there are many branches, can the branches go in accordance with their own will? If they go astray, it means they are broken and lose their lives. They must cling from the trunk and get the nutrition from the root through the trunk.

We as individuals must stand on the base of three stages together. Everything comes in the number three: the division of your fingers; your two eyes, which must be focused on one point; the two nostrils, sensing one point; the upper lip and lower lip, fixed on one purpose, etc. Realization or perfection will be brought about after the number three. When you hold something, you put your two hands on the object-this becomes the number three. That is why the Divine Principle teaches us that everything created is based on the number three. We say we have our body and mind, but in our mind, there is the core part or seed, where God can abide. Those three must be one.

God must always be one with the leader

So suppose there is a leader of a state, a state representative; he must first of all become one with God. And then he with God, playing the role of plus, must be able to lead and absorb the group as his object. If that is created in your state, then your state will see prosperity. If God's will and the will of our members all over the world become one with God, then it is easy for us to carry out our mission. Because of the human fall, however, there is disunity and disharmony. But if our mind is firmly one with God, that strong plus or subjectivity can manipulate the rest of the body, and with the body can manipulate the rest of the people. Then, even if your body is willing to go astray, some force will pull you back to the right direction.

When there is unity between mind and body, then it equals God, and naturally is a perfect object to God as the ultimate subject. For at least three years, concentrate your efforts to make your mind and body into one, and you will experience God abiding in you, and working through you. The Bible teaches us, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God" (Matt. 5: 9). "Peacemaker" means to make the people united into one. Then the principle of safeguarding the Unified Front is here.

If a unified family can absorb other families in its clan in the objective position, and become one with them, then that clan can influence other clans. And in this way the whole nation will become one with each individual, and then God will abide there, and the nation will be the strongest nation in the whole world.

You cannot deceive yourself

By being dishonest and telling lies, you cannot realize God's will. You must know that; you cannot deceive yourself, for then you cannot put your mind and body into one. We must leave everything in God's hands; unless we do that, we cannot have God working through us. Wherever a leader is posted, the members under him must try to become one with him, and he in turn must become one with God.

If you hold a job, if you are harmonious with your boss and able to please him, and doing whatever you are told, you are apt to be elevated or promoted. If you serve your leader and are utterly obedient to him, if he cannot carry out his mission, he is doomed to be fired from the position. Then you may even be elevated to his position. If there is a leader who is not qualified enough for the job but is temporarily stationed there, you should be utterly obedient and work hard under him. That may go on one year, two years, or three years; at the end of three years at least, the boss will not be able to stand in that position and you will be promoted to his position.

So it is safer for you to be followers instead of being the leaders, so don't complain about the leaders. By being followers, you pave your own way and practice whatever things are coming to you. In practicing in that field, you can get more experience for the qualification as a future leader. If you are obedient even to a leader who is not qualified to be boss over you, the people around you will become more and more aware of the fact and will recognize your ability.

Don't complain while other people around you are complaining; don't retreat while other people are retreating. And if your boss, your leader is harsh on you, just don't be bitter, and just go ahead and be obedient to him. If he dies, you be resolved to decorate his tomb with flowers.

Are you with me?

The chosen nation of the Israelites was doomed to peril because they could not become one with Jesus the Messiah, the son of God. If Christianity does not become one with Jesus and one with their own leaders, they are doomed to ruin. Whether or not our Unification Church will prosper or fail will solely depend on whether or not we will become one with each other. Are you one with me? In turn, I must be one with God.

Then do we have a nation in the will of God? We must be able to restore a whole nation as a unit before God. Would you rather choose a small African country, because it is easier to restore the whole nation, or the United States, which has been leading in the democratic world up to the present moment? Why do we choose the United States?

It is because there are many Christians in the United States, many God-loving people. Also this nation is the melting pot of many nations and many races, and the nation has already set the example of unity, in a sense, to a certain extent. For instance, there are many Germans who can readily return to their own country to save the nation.

In order to save America, I have mobilized so many members from so many nationalities. If you work in your respective countries-for instance, if the British people take the responsibility over the salvation of Britain, it will take a lifetime or more to restore Britain-it is going to be an endless job. But if we mobilize all the powers from all the countries where we have our missionaries, and then save this nation, then we can restore other nations by mobilizing their people.

Think of how to save the people

So many millions of people are living in your state. Day and night, asleep or awake, if you think of how to reach out your hands to save those people, struggling hard, then God will be there working through. Your project will be a success. So don't try hard to get help from God, but ask Him to go ahead and prepare the minds of the people to receive you. And if you are strongly one with God, and advance forward without retreating, without stopping half the way, then it will be easier for you to carry out your mission.

We have learned through the Principle that where there is a perfect plus, a perfect minus is sure to be created. When I was imprisoned, without even speaking a word, I could witness to so many people. The God who has so far been helping me is ready to help you, and is helping you already. But if you are without faith in Him, He cannot do anything; and even though He may help, the fruition will not be brought about.

Let us come to the conclusion. To safeguard the Unified Front is for you to ask our Father, God, to reach out to the people, going beyond you, and preparing the soil of their hearts to receive you. And you take the initiative to become one with God. Wherever you go, you go with Him; whatever you speak, you speak with Him. When you sleep, when you work, when you eat, you must feel that you are doing those things with God. If you go on doing things that way, then you will feel the presence of God, and even feel the hearts of the people.

God will be present in you

If someone is a sad man, when I look at him, I immediately feel sad. In that way we are feeling the sentiment of God. Suppose you are visiting a village, and you will immediately know the exact nature of that village. If you visit a town, before entering the town you go up to the highest mountain and pray for the whole place. Someone there must be attracted to you, and you will find him coming up the hill to meet you. Where there is a perfect plus, perfect minus is sure to be created. I know you have experienced many such things. If you go on the street ready to witness to the people, your legs will lead you to the right person. If you have such experiences, you cannot deny the existence of God. That's the natural way. If you pray hard and are ready to receive God's guidance, God will be present in you and work through you.

In safeguarding the Unified Front in this last year of the three crucial years, you must invest your whole being and concentrate your efforts, and focus your attention on the job. And in doing that, don't rely on God; but let Him prepare your way, going ahead of you.

The Present And The Future

My topic this morning is, "The Present and the Future."

Seen from the viewpoint of God, we are situated at a most critical point. You have heard many times of our second seven-year course. By the end of this year it will be over, and we will be starting our mission in the third seven-year course. In the providence of God, we must go through the tollgate of indemnity in order to restore ourselves. But why is the third seven-year course necessary? You don't know too much about the history of the Unification movement.

The important history of the movement started in 1946, when I went to North Korea on a special mission for a year, then returned to South Korea. Although our first seven-year course began in 1960, when I was blessed in Holy Matrimony, before this we had to pass through two seven-year periods of difficulties and persecutions. Centered on myself on the individual level, I had to pass the most critical, most difficult time in my life. In providential history, this period of personal indemnity corresponds to the period which determined whether or not Jesus would have to be crucified. My mission was to overcome such difficulty and hardship. Whatever came, I had to win over it and be victorious.

After winning over all these things, the persecutions were almost over, and in 1960 I began to lay the foundation on the family level. During this course, my problem was how to raise Mother, and center her in the Providence. She had to go through many difficulties, and we could have failed had she disobeyed me, gone against our movement, or been unable to endure her suffering. She had to go through many difficulties for a woman. She had to overcome many things to be able to stand in the position of object to me, and she accomplished that.

During that course she did not go quite on her own, I helped her, and she started her mission on the foundation I had already laid. By being one with me, and utterly obedient to me alone, she passed the test. In other words, that was the period in which she had to bear the cross from the woman's viewpoint and be the object to me as the central figure.

Centering on Adam, or the Messiah who is in Adam's position, Adam has to restore himself by going through the indemnity course. Eve too, has to restore herself by restoring the position of perfect object to the subject because in the time of the Fall this was reversed, and Eve subjugated Adam. It was a period in which Mother had to recover the position of Eve, and to recreate Eve in herself, or restore the position of Eve before the Fall. Just as Eve was created from the rib taken out of Adam, she had to be recreated by me, that is becoming a part of me. She had to bring herself into a position where there could be no accusation from Satan.

During my second seven-year course I had many difficult problems, especially headaches because of women. That was a period in which I had to go through many heartbreaks because of women. As you well know, the Human Fall came about at the last stage of the growth period. Both Adam and Eve fell from that point without going through the perfection stage, by Eve's dominating Adam. But this time in the course of restoration, they must go up and through the last period of the growth stage, and then through the last and final stage of perfection, this time by Adam's being subject to Eve. At the time of the Fall, Adam and Eve fell by centering on Satan. But this time, in the course of restoration, they have to go up to the level of the love of God.

At the time of the Fall, all creation fell into a state of groaning and travail. So, both Father and Mother had to restore the world of creation. The children and all of the descendants also entered a fallen world because of the Fall of Adam and Eve. Thus, we had to restore a certain number of children to God's bosom. Only by having done that, could they come back to God. There's no one but me who knows the course of restoration in this detailed way. My mission is threefold: firstly, I am to be the central figure of the whole world; secondly, as Adam the son of God; and thirdly, as the husband and bridegroom. Due to the Fall, Adam could not carry out his responsibility as the husband, as the son, and as the lord over creation. In the course of restoration, on the internal level, I had to keep all those things in mind, and as each portion of the mission was accomplished, I set up World Day (Day of All Things), Children's Day, and then Parents' Day. After the first seven-year course, I was then qualified to set up God's Day.

When I speak of Adam and Eve I don't mean the two alone, but with them the whole of mankind. All mankind must be brought into restoration centered upon the father's family. In the course of time, children had to be given birth, and by their becoming one with the mother, they can be included in the course of restoration. During that period, much indemnity in my family had to be paid. I never had an easy heart at any moment, in raising the children. Almost unavoidably, during that period of time, there had been many sad things happening in my family.

By crossing over that period, I began to enter the second seven years. My mission of restoration started from this point, the point where Adam and Eve fell. This was the completion of the first seven-year course, and so I could set up God's Day. The Parents crossed over that period, placing themselves on the completed base of the first seven-year course, but not the children, as during this period of time I blessed many couples in holy matrimony, indicating a certain number out of the satanic world, but they have their toll of indemnity to pay as yet, and they've not quite reached my level. The blessed couples are in the position where they must pay the indemnity for all mankind. Upon entering the second seven-year course, I have to elevate those blessed couples to my standard.

In the year 1970, when I blessed 777 couples, indicating the family on the worldwide base, then I had to have them go through the period of indemnity on the family level. Just as my own family suffered persecution and things like that, it was their turn to suffer satanic persecution and they had to overcome it. Their wives had to separate from their husbands to go out to the field and they had to leave their children in the rear lines. Their mission was to save Korea as a nation by going through the indemnity for the nation.

By their doing that, they became one with the nation. They were in the position of Abel serving the satanic world in the position of Cain. It was natural for them to be persecuted, and they had to endure all those things to win over the satanic world. History has never written such a thing. After their service to the world, the people in the satanic world began to say that these are not like ordinary people, and without the help of the Unification movement we cannot save the nation or save the world. This kind of rumor was spreading in Korea as a result of their hard work. People admire the fact that the women even left their homes to work for the sake of the nation.

In that course of time I could not help the families financially, because it was the period in which they had to go through the indemnity course. So, you know what happened? The wives had to leave their homes and they had to leave their children, some in orphanages, some in the care of relatives, some of whom opposed our movement. Many miserable things happened during that time. Ordinarily the children would be inclined to go against their parents in such a miserable situation.

In the Western homes, for instance in America, when your parents are divorced you feel resentment in your heart and you become bitter toward your family and the whole society. But even though something similar happened in Korea by the will of God. these children were obedient to their parents and were proud of their mothers going out to work for the sake of God and mankind. They never objected to their parents' actions. In Western homes, the mother more or less dominates the father, but in our homes by going through more difficulties than their husband, just the reverse thing is happening. All the wives are obedient, absolutely obedient to their husbands. The course of restoration that we are undertaking and what is happening in our movement is to restore things to the original state before the Fall by our paying the toll of indemnity.

In a sense it is fortunate that all the children in the blessed families were under ten. They were so innocent and proud of their mothers working for the great cause, and they never complained, though they missed them, and longed to see their mothers. These innocent children born from the righteous families had to go through suffering for the sake of the children as yet under the bondage of the satanic world. This signified the restoration of the family through suffering for the families still in the satanic world.

During this period, we must know that some people are in the position of Cain, others in the position of Abel. Centering on Mother, there were difficulties based on a Cain and Abel problem centering on Sung-jin. He had to go through difficulties based on the Cain-Abel relationship. Son-jin was situated in the critical point where he was apt to deny this movement and leave it, because of his difficult situation. I have repeatedly said that I have to bear the cross on the individual level and the family level. That is, I had to carry the women's cross and the children's cross by myself. I'm the example to the husbands of the blessed families, so all the husbands in their own families must go through all those three stages: the stage of paying indemnity for himself, for his wife and for his children. Then wives must be obedient to their husbands, and the children must be obedient to their fathers. Can you follow me? (Yes!)

In other words, the course of restoration through indemnity is not smooth. It's a bumpy road with many difficulties obstructing the way. Those three most difficult years were ones where we had to go through many difficulties on the family base. Upon entering 1972, a new era of history was begun. So, after overcoming the persecution from their own families in the outside world, from there the mission of the Unification Church was to win the whole nation of Korea, and to win the favor of the government. The whole nation of Korea had to be divided into two camps: one in the position of Abel, and one in the position of Cain. Those in the position of Cain must be absorbed by those who are in the position of Abel. Then alone can Korea properly play the role of the nation of God's choice.

In the hierarchy of the Unification movement, the first circle is the True Parents becoming one with their children. With those two united, they play the role of Abel to the outside world. All the families in the outside world, including their parents and children are in the position of Cain. And our mission is to win over or absorb those people on the family level. Not only on the family level, but on the national level with Korea as the central nation. By doing that, the external substantial base of our movement has developed at the worldwide level by our winning the favor of Korea as a nation and by winning the government to our side. Now the whole nation has to follow the Unification movement.

However, it was not yet the end of September, winning the favor of the government and the nation, that we had to go over the boundary to the next stage of the worldwide movement. It is something like opening the gate to reach out to the world. Towards the end of 1972, I landed on this continent of America. America being the melting pot of all the nations of the world, my mission here for three years is the public mission to influence the whole world. This is something entirely new to you, and even Korean members have not heard this yet. After I make my visit to Korea, I'm going to tell my people about all these things, and then about the new dispensation which is fast approaching.

By the year 1972, while we were in the middle of the second seven-year course on the spiritual level, our influence was so great as to win the favor of the government. All the people of Korea were more or less aware of the fact that without our movement, they could not save Korea. The feeling was that if we are going to have any religion at all, the Unification movement was the one, and Unification Thought is a good philosophy to have. Up to that moment we had done many things to influence the Korean society and government. Through the Victory over Communism movement we have educated some 17 million people. Half the population of South Korea has gone through the seminar. It is public opinion that without the activity of Mr. Moon, there is no other group that can defeat Communism and win over the Communists. The same thing is happening in Japan and in Free China. In most of the Asian countries we are very influential. Without your knowing it, I have been influencing the Liberal Democratic Party in Japan. By doing that, I have influenced the whole politics of Japan. I've done this much in seven years' time, to open up the gates to reach out to the end of the world.

During my three-year mission in the United States I had to take the offense instead of being on the defense, as I had been in Korea, when there was so much persecution from the outside world. In Korea, Christianity represented the most severe persecution coming from the outside world. We had been attacked so many times and so severely by the satanic world, including Christianity in Korea; they did everything that they could. However, by crossing over that period, when I landed in America I knew I could take the offense , because Satan had done everything he could in Korea already.

So, as I arrived in America, towards the end of 1972, I initiated my seven-city speaking tour. I stirred up the whole nation, and the people were surprised that an unknown man from an Oriental country came to cry out to the people. Everybody must have thought, "This won't last long. This strange man coming to this nation without knowing what a wonderful nation this is... he is going to stir up the nation. But it is not going to last for long!" -- this was the feeling of the people. Everybody must have thought that I was going to decline from that point on. They had never dreamed that I was coming up and up like this, to stir up the whole nation. But deep in my heart I had the confidence to stir up the whole nation. Even our American Unification Church members did not dream of that. They thought, "Oh, Master! He doesn't know the language. How can he turn the nation upside down, even though he has so much confidence? We have tried our best, and it was a slow process. How can he do that in such a short period of time without knowing the language?"

Well, you have been skeptical. So, even when I left Korea with the president of the Korean movement, I had that plan in my mind, but I never revealed it even to him, the president. Then right after my arrival I planned to have my seven-city tour and then 21-city tour. After Lincoln Center, at the time of the Carnegie Hall campaign, all our members were skeptical, and cocked their heads like this: "How can it work? Carnegie Hall!" was their reaction. Then, our members were surprised, not to mention outsiders, at the result of our Carnegie Hall campaign. They were all surprised to know that we filled up Carnegie Hall.

Then my 32-city tour began. Visiting every state, people were surprised to know that we have so many young people, and we seemingly had so much money to fund this thing. At that time, of course, we had no money, nothing but our hands to work with. With our bare hands we had to create something great.

From the very bottom we worked diligently and constantly, and people noticed what we had done, and they began to be surprised. I know from the time when we initiated our speaking tour, when they saw that we were entering the 21-city tour, they were flabbergasted. And then, at Madison Square Garden, they reached the peak of being frightened and amazed. In the latter half of the 21-city tour, chief ministers and laymen began to be surprised and frightened to think that if indeed our movement goes on as it is, they could be swallowed up. They began to persecute us and oppose us. But that was nothing to us, and we just advanced forward.

So, we dashed on our road to the goal of Madison Square Garden. Nobody ever thought that it would be a success, that our movement would fill up the Madison Square Garden, but as you know, their expectation was shattered by our effort. Following Madison Square Garden, we went on to Philadelphia, Washington, Atlanta, Chicago, etc. Something interesting happened in San Francisco. We filled up the hall with a capacity of 3,500, but more people kept coming. So we guided them into another hall five blocks away. People were listening there through a loudspeaker. Some thousand more people were there. Through the speaker, they would hear the thunderous applause coming from the main hall, and they would join the applause. Well, I think in that sense, I have made a record in American history. Have you ever heard of such a thing happening? (No!) People have witnessed that I have done this much in one year and two months, and they began to wonder what will happen with our movement in three years' or seven years' time.

It's a funny thing, but very interesting and very stimulating and encouraging to us. There was a quiz show with a prize of up to $6,500. Whenever you give the right answer to the question, the prize goes up. Then the announcer said, "Who is the Korean evangelist who stirred up the whole world? Then, the girl said, "Reverend Sun Myung Moon." She won the prize of $6,500 by having the right answer.

So, by now, everyone knows the name of Reverend Sun Myung Moon, and they hear that he is a great youth leader, financial leader and he has great organizational power. The public opinion is that no one can excel Reverend Moon.

We kept on the offensive. During that period of time, we had to let the people of America know, not excluding anyone. I'm stirring up the White House, Senate and House of Representatives, the United Nations, and all the business leaders. If I have stirred up all those people, there might have been those who would want to attack me, and I would have fought them. But no one has appeared brave enough to fight me.

I visited London for the third International Conference on the Unity of Sciences. There I stirred up the noted scholars, professors and scientists from all over the world. They were so anxious to meet Reverend Moon face to face. Well, what do you think? I entered the stage at which I have become known throughout the world. Or, at least, throughout America, and people in very field, every walk of life know about me. Now, they are sure that this person will topple all other leaders of the world.

In San Francisco, when our people had an interview, they asked us, "What is the difference between Billy Graham and your leader Reverend Moon?" And our answer was, "Billy Graham is a famous evangelist, but the difference between Reverend Moon and him is the fact that Reverend Moon is a prophet, not an ordinary reverend, but a prophet." The job of the evangelist is to evangelize people based on what they already know. However, they cannot pioneer a new phase of life, nor can they revolutionize the Christian world. But in the Unification movement we are pioneers. We are going to reform and revolutionize the world. So, we are driving the whole world into turmoil. Some will come against us, some will be in favor of us and there's going to be great confusion in the world.

Have I not done a great work in America? (Yes!) But one thing you should know is that it is not I myself who did that. Without God's cooperation, I could not do this. The leaders in the Christian world, for instance the top man in the Presbyterian Church, or other such people, have all wanted to change the world, but they have not been able to do that. Why? First, they don't have the confidence that they can carry out the job. They are not confident that they can win the goal at all costs. But you must know that in light of the Divine Principle, we have the formula, the mathematical calculation of the time and elements of the providential history of mankind. We have the very core secret of the will of God.

I have not only worked on the continents, on land, but on the ocean too. Last summer, I fought a great deal on the ocean, in a boat out on the sea. Everywhere, even on the boat, I had to fight to reach the goal.

You aroused quite a violent reaction in this society and the world by selling flowers and peanuts. You have presented a great riddle to the people, who can't imagine that we do such great work by selling peanuts and flowers on the street. They can never imagine, they can never believe it. After we buy another building in the city of New York which we are going to buy, then we will have bought ten million dollars worth of land, buildings and property in a years' time. In buying those things we cut down the price to half of the asking price. Once I set my eyes on a building, or land, they can never sell it to other people. They will have more serious problems so that they have to sell it at the cheapest price. Back in Korea, the same thing happened. When I wanted to buy a certain piece of land and we didn't have enough money, then the owner of the land would die or get seriously ill so that they had to sell the land as soon as possible, and we could buy it at the cheapest possible price. In one year, I made contracts for lands almost once every three days. I have made a fortune in less than three years' time; one year and three months in America.

Do we need money? Yes! No! We are not in need of money, but this world is badly in need of God.

I have set up a historical record of receiving so many proclamations from so many VIPs. Nearly 250 last year alone. So, now it is almost 500. It is a surprising fact that we have done that much work. With that much work done, do you admire me, or don't you? (Yes!) Do you know the blessedness of having met me, even though so far you have gone through many difficulties. From now on, I have to drive you more harshly. Would you accept that? (Yes!) Why do I have to do that to you? Because we have the world problem left ahead of us; our one year must be used to restore thousands of years, in order to accelerate our project and not let it be prolonged.

Towards the years 1977 and 1978, which are the most critical years in world history, we have to mobilize for an all-out effort. We have already laid the foundation of victory on the spiritual level, but not yet on the physical level. So, we have to do it, at all costs, by the soonest possible date.

My topic this morning was "The Present and the Future.'' With only seven more days left until the last speech engagement in Los Angeles, we are crossing over to the worldwide level of our movement on the spiritual level. In the democratic world, the cultural sphere is Christendom, and Christianity having been opposed to our movement, we are in the stage where we have to restore it, through indemnity. We are at the most critical point to do that. In the Christian world, they have done whatever they could in opposing us, but now they are in the stage where they must begin to think that they should reconsider our ideology.

It is very timely that in Korea more than 100 university professors signed the declaration in favor of our movement. We are going to print it, and publicize it in almost all the main newspapers in America. You think highly of the opinion of even one professor. The professors in Korea who signed up to support our movement were from 37 universities. They included deans of colleges and presidents of universities. So far it is a world record to have some 48 professors signing up in support of the Park regime. Compared to that, for 100 professors to have signed this supporting statement for our movement is a great thing.

The basis of Christian civilization is on the spiritual level. Jesus' mission, actually, was to establish that foundation both on the spiritual and physical level, but having been crucified, only the spiritual level has been accomplished on the worldwide level, and that is Christianity today. What the Christian people have done so far must be reaped by me, and what they have established on the spiritual level will be connected to what we are going to do on the physical level, so what I will have done will be both on the spiritual and physical levels. It will correspond to Jesus' full mission, as if Jesus had marched toward the Roman Empire, won the hearts of the people there, and accomplished his mission both on the spiritual and physical levels.

The relationship between Korea and America corresponds to that between Israel and the Roman Empire in Jesus' day. America is the nation that can reach out to the rest of the world. The channel is open to reach out to all the nations of the world from the United States. It's something like the Roman Empire in Jesus' day; the Roman Empire was the hub of the world from which they could reach out to the whole world. That's what makes those two correspond to each other. New York is something like the capital city of Rome in the Roman Empire. So, you must work hard to win the people's hearts here in the city of New York. My having stirred up the whole nation of America in less than three years' time is something like Jesus having influenced the whole Roman Empire in his days. If he had done that, Jesus would have returned to Israel with a triumphant victory. Now having triumphed in my projects, I am returning to Korea with all the victory and glory. You must realize that it is a great event in the spirit world.

Having done all these great works, if I return to Korea at this point, would the American people think that, "Oh, he's a failure, going back to his country." Or would they think that I'm a victor, going back to his country after having gained all the spoils?" What would the rest of the people in America think? (Victor.) No one can deny the fact that as an Oriental man I've been a victor in this nation. Is there skepticism about that, or is it more than certain in everybody? (Sure!) Well, would you expect the same answers from other people in the outside world? (Yes!). Not only you, but the New York Times said that we had won a great victory and success in the Madison Square Garden campaign with an overflowing audience. What do you think? What would our members all over the world think? Would they be proud of me? (Yes!) And what do you think of the spirit world -- the myriads of saints and great men who have passed away from the physical world? (Yes!)

Any people in any nation, even in the spirit world, would naturally think that I was a success. Even those who have been opposed to our movement would think, "Oh! He's a great success! He has succeeded in his mission!"' Even the Communists are jealous of me. At this point, we can already say that we are victors.

In the biblical history when Jacob wrestled against the angel and defeated him, at the Ford of Jabbok, he was given the name of victor, Israel. But that is on the spiritual level. With what I have done in America as the hub of the world, and the gate having been opened to reach out to the rest of the world, including the spiritual world, God can give me the name of Israel too, both on the spiritual and physical levels, on the worldwide base. That is the point of time where we are situated. The present and future is like that.

In my life, this is the first time I have made a public appearance anywhere. But it was initiated in America. When I began my mission I was originally going to start on the worldwide base at the place just before which Jesus was crucified. My plan was to make my public appearance on the stage of America as the hub of the world. On the cross, Jesus left everything, even what he earned on the spiritual level. But in the course of restoration, I had to go through all those things, by experiencing a bit of everything on the individual level. I have won on the individual level, and national level, spiritually and physically at this point. Judaism was the first Israel, Christianity the second Israel. On the spiritual level I have already connected those two. We are well on the way to establish it solidly on the worldwide level from here. On the physical level, we are going to connect the Christian world to the democratic world: Judaism, Christianity, the democratic world, and the whole world. The central nation to carry out the task of linking all those groups will be Korea.

Jesus in his time could not quite cross over to the national base on the physical level, to win and accomplish his task. But in my case I had to make one nation of God's choice, Korea, stand out on the world scene on the physical base. From September until now in the U.N., Korea has been faced with a critical phase. Not only in Asia, but in the whole world, Korea has to be solid in its position. Our Madison Square Garden project came on the 18th of September, 1974. Around the 18th of September, for a period of 21 days' time, there was great strife in the U.N. At that time we were surrounded by the serious problem of Red China, Japan, and North Korea uniting into one to annihilate South Korea. With all those serious problems ahead, Premier Tanaka of Japan was visiting America. At that time we were planning to have a protest against him.

I was behind the scenes working for the whole thing. Without your knowledge, the Korean embassy wanted us to plan the demonstration against Mr. Tanaka, but the State Department begged us not to do that. At that time, we were very controversial. At the same time, the Korean government came to its knees before me, begging me to do certain things. The top men in the Korean embassy came to visit me, and paid tribute to me. The Korean government sent a secret envoy to meet me, to consult over a critical, serious matter. At Madison Square Garden we established the foundation of victory on the spiritual level, and at that point our victory on the physical level was connected to the nation of Korea. The secret envoy sent to me by the Korean Government attended the Madison Square Garden speech at that time.

That was our internal or spiritual battle, and we won our victory at least over the Asiatic part of the world, and now, around the campaign at the U.N., we will have established the victory on the worldwide level. In all the Communist world, the North Korean regime of Kim Il Sung is the most vicious. You don't know how malignant and vicious it is. They, the North Koreans, suggested the dismissal of the United Nations army stationed in Korea. Thirty-four nations were for that, with 21 nations for having the United Nations army in Korea. At that critical point, we worked to win more people on the side of South Korea, and we made it.

We started our campaign by raising the problem of freedom of travel for the Japanese wives of North Korean repatriates, and won some 50 supporting nations for that project. It was a historical event when 750 young people from all over the world gathered in front of the U.N. building, to fast for seven days. Our doing that was an attack on the North Korean regime. Our scheme made it impossible for them to make any breakthroughs. They had two votes in the U.N. on the issue. The proposal of South Korea won by a vote of 61 to 42. When they voted on the proposal from North Korea, the vote was 48 to 48. So, the South Korean proposal won the battle. Automatically, the victory won here helped bring about total victory.

The ambassadors from so many nations to the U.N. knew, and the North Koreans, of course, knew that the victory of South Korea was brought about by our effort. By doing this, we laid the foundation of indemnity both on the spiritual and physical levels, both on the national and worldwide levels. Do you understand? (Yes!)

We are barely in the process of linking what we have done on the spiritual level to the worldwide base, both on the physical and spiritual levels. After the completion of my speech tour in Los Angeles, when I will go back to Korea I'm going to declare the worldwide linkage of the providence of God, both on the spiritual and physical levels, when I start my third seven-year course. This will establish the condition of my having already achieved the nationwide foundation, both on the spiritual and physical levels. We have so far established the foundation on the spiritual level by linking the whole Christian world, but we have three more years left to link it on the physical level. Do you follow me? (Yes!)

Up to the year 1977 or -- at the latest until 1978 -- I will have laid the foundation on the worldwide level, on the physical and spiritual levels, centering on the nation of America. That means, in three more years' time, I must establish or pave the way for the whole world. I have to redo the providence on the physical level. So you can imagine how difficult a job it must be. After our completing this, we are going to push harder on the road reaching to the world.

On the spiritual level we already started from last year to dash on the way to the world, because I organized the International One World Crusade last year. But I'm going to shift the whole team to other countries. By the year 1977, after my speech in Washington D.C., my whole mission on the worldwide level will be completed. After that, in the democratic world, at least, there will be no persecution before us. We are now at a very critical and serious point: to go over the boundary and enter the worldwide mission. If we cannot accomplish our mission on the physical level in three more years, we will have to face more hardship. So let's be serious for that reason. By that time, the threat of Communism will overwhelm the world and even the United States. But the American government and its people do not know the facts and do not feel the threat, so we will take the responsibility to awaken the people and clear away the Communist ideology from the face of the earth by working here in the United States.

By April 1978. we will have to complete the mission. If we cannot accomplish it by April, it can be prolonged to August, but no later than that.

In the course of doing all those things, I have been very time-conscious. If we had not initiated the project centered on the Japanese wives, how at all could we have solved the U.N, problem? With all those anticipations. I initiated that campaign. So, by the same token. I am anticipating a rough time before the completion of our mission on the level I have already told you. so you must know that it's very serious. You are not alone on the battlefield. I'm always in the vanguard. Here we have white members, black members, yellow members. In the course of time, you can never complain -- that's the heart the thing, that's the core.

Now I have made unity in my own family. There's unity between me and Mother, between me and Mother and the children, and then between my family and the Unification Family. There must be unity created there. You come from all nationalities, all races. You must never complain, you must follow the tradition in Korea, when our movement was faced with many difficulties and persecution in the early days of our movement. At that time, even though there was only a handful of members, there was complete oneness. Now, on the worldwide base, so many members from so many nations must be united into one, without any disharmony. Then alone can we fight against the whole world, annihilating the evil power of Communism. We are situated at this critical point, and I warn you, you must never complain.

You American women, I want you to become one with the men, centered on them. Throw away the old concept. Your self-centeredness will be eradicated, you must become one centered on the men as the subject. You must follow the example of Mother becoming one with me, centered on me, being obedient to me. On the part of men, you must bear the cross, you must be responsible for all the persecutions, bearing the cross on your shoulders. When you are faced with death and difficulties, you must be in the vanguard of others, protecting the women in the rear.

When the men folk are ready to die for the sake of the women, that's what makes them the center, the subject. The women in their turn must be obedient to them, and be one with them. You must establish your new order in this corrupted nation of America. Our Unification members know this only too well, because that is in accordance with the Principle of Creation: men being the subject, women being the object. Do you follow me, you women? (Yes!) That's what the Divine Principle teaches you. So, we are a new breed of people. You are American boys, but different from ordinary American boys. You are American girls, but different from ordinary American girls.

When you are blessed in holy matrimony, both husbands and wives must have the notion that you can die for the sake of your children. In American homes, all things are centered on the parents, and their children are just ignored. But the contrary will be true in our families. We put more stress on the children, because they are our future-selves. Our life is prolonged through them. In American society, they think more of their families than the country. But the reverse will be true in our world. We must stress saving the whole nation, which will include our family.

In the true sense, which of the two would American people want -- the Unification way, or the old way they are applying now? (Unification way!) Even though they themselves cannot carry it out, they would want our way, and they would think that our way is the true way. They would see their only hope in our movement.

The other day, I instructed my American staff members. I let them know that I would separate the families from now on, for the serious work we have ahead of us. Since back in Korea, the wives separated from their families to work in the front lines for the salvation of the whole nation, the same thing must be done in this nation. The blessed couples in this nation are going to follow that example. Those who have gone through the three-year course of separation can now enjoy their family life while doing their work in the movement. But now it is your turn, the American couples, the couples in the Western world and in nations other than Korea, to do the same. In Japan they have done that. Isn't that true? (Yes!) In Japan, too, after the blessing in 1970, all the husbands and wives were separated from each other to work for their own mission. Centered upon the ideology of family life we have participated in that tradition, and you must feel the blessedness of our knowing the fact and putting it into practice. Do you follow me?(Yes!)

Then, now, let me tell you, what is the purpose of our being blessed in marriage? What is your answer? Well, in brief, we are going to be blessed in marriage to be qualified to enter Heaven. We cannot enter Heaven singly. Only after having established the four-position foundation, can we enter Heaven. When I say four-position base, I mean the base without accusation from Satan. When you live with accusation from Satan the four-position base has no value.

Due to the Human Fall, Adam and Eve not only were separated from God, but in that family, there was rupture, separation from each other, and disharmony. But in the course of restoration, we must bring about harmony in the family first, before being able to establish the Kingdom. Where can it be done? What is the first unit where we do the job? In the family. So, in our family, after the blessing, there must be harmony and oneness, although in form, they are separated from each other for the mission. On the physical level, they are separated from each other: The woman leaving the husband, and children leaving the parents, and the parents almost discarding the children. But, on the spiritual level, there is strong oneness. In this world there is complaint, rupture, dissatisfaction, and discontent. But in that separation, there was the sense of gratitude, the sense of pride, the sense of obligation and responsibility. By our going through all those things, in separation we will be grateful, and then alone we can repel Satan's accusation and be elevated to the standard where we can be accepted to the Heavenly Kingdom of God. Can you follow me? (Yes!) The reason I'm telling you this, is so that you may be ready to have three years of separation, even after the blessing.

You have already worked singly for three or four years, and after the blessing three more years or a little longer than that, and those seven years will be your public mission in our movement. Those seven years is the coefficient to the seven thousand years of biblical history, after which God will install the true family on the face of the earth. Then after your seven-year mission on the public level, you will establish your own family, bringing your family together. Before coming over that level, you cannot give birth to sinless children. You cannot elevate yourself to the position of sinless parent. You cannot put yourself in the position of the true husband or true wife.

During seven years' time, you must work on your own, without being helped by the Church, both on the physical level and on the spiritual level, financially, too. Up to the second seven-year period, I've not even helped the staff members of Korea financially, who had gone through so much financial difficulty. I began to help them only after I came to the United States, because they had already completed their mission of three years on their own. It is in the light of the Principle that when you join our movement and become conscious of your mission, then you have to go out to the satanic world to win people and with your spiritual children come back to God's bosom. Jesus had to do the same. After saving mankind alone could he have been a success. My mission was the same, and yours will be the same. You are given the qualifications to inherit what I have accomplished.

In proportion to what you have done in the outside world, you will be blessed. The more you win there, the more blessing you will be given in the spirit world and in the physical world. Well, lately I've heard that you are floating like this after hearing there's going to be a blessing. Thinking of the seriousness of our mission at this critical moment I have made it a rule to wed women above the age of 25 and men above the age of 27. After you give birth to children, you will have to go through more indemnity with the children. When we are in the battlefield, there's a great difference between having one, two, three, or four children.

Go out to the world, win the people, and come back with them as your spiritual children. And then alone are you accepted. The same thing applies to you. When you truly realize your mission in the movement, would you stay in the movement and just live your life here? Or would you go out to the evil world and win the people's heart and come back with your spiritual children to be accepted by God, by the True Parents? (Go out!) You are going to inherit what had been accomplished by the True Parents. But. before doing that, we must go out and experience a bit of what they have gone through, and win the people in the satanic world by yourself. Then you will realize that we are in the battlefield.

Even after the marriage, you have to accomplish your mission, and you have to pay more indemnity with the children. What I have gone through must be experienced by you, and what the Korean staff members have gone through will be an example to you. This is the formula. You cannot avoid it. Then what is your mission? Why do you have to witness to the people, and bring in your spiritual children? Are you doing that for God? No. Are you doing that for me? No. Not for mankind, but ultimately for yourself. Not for the Unification Church. God is mobilized for you people as individuals. The True Parents are mobilized, the Church itself, and all members in the early days of our movement have done their best and paved the way for you. Up to the present moment you have been saying that, "I have worked for God, I have worked for the True Parents, I have worked for the Unification Church." But I want you to reverse this idea. You have worked for yourself, ultimately, and you are going to work for yourself from now on. Don't you understand? (Yes!)

You must know it for sure. You must realize how hard God has been working for you, as individuals, how hard the True Parents have been working, what the whole Unification Church went through for you. You must be grateful, and you must set up the tradition for your descendants, too. In gratefulness and blessedness, and pride and respect, you must work for your mission to lay the foundation for yourself. Don't ever say that you have gone through difficulties for the Unification Church, for the True Parents. The reverse is true. You have worked for yourself. You must make it very clear.

So, if you realize that God has been mobilized for you, the True Parents have been working for you, and the Church has been going through difficulties for you, then you must be grateful, and try your best to accomplish your own mission, without complaining, without bitterness or any resentment. Are you sure of that? (Yes!) Is everything clear to you? (Yes!)

I must repeat that God has been working for you, and the True Parents have sacrificed themselves for your sake. So, you must be deeply grateful to them. Then alone can you work for the rest of mankind, in their place, following their example. And you must be grateful to your brothers and sisters in our movement all over the world. You must realize that they are paving the way for you to work. So, everything being done, everything taking place is being done for your sake.

From the year 1975, you must change your concept, you must set up the tradition on that base, and then try to accomplish your mission without complaint. Or else, we cannot accomplish our mission to gain the goal. So far, I have gone through indemnity for you, but from now on, you must go on your own, paying your own toll of indemnity.

We are entering a new era of our history. We are going beyond the boundary of the national level of our mission. You will lay the foundation for yourselves only by serving all mankind on the worldwide level. We are presently situated on the nationwide level, but from now on, we are going to accomplish the worldwide mission, and our past notion that we have been working for the Church, for the True Parents, for the family, must be reversed to thinking that God, the True Parents, the Church and everybody has been working for us, and that we in gratitude must work for the rest of mankind.

That's our present, and that is going to be our future. You are going to be your own Messiah, having saved yourself on the individual level: the Messiah of your family, to save the family, and the Messiah of your tribe, your nation, and the whole world. We are entering the worldwide level of things. That is the way you have walked up until the present moment. That's your mission at present, and that's going to be your mission for the future.

Honorable Chairman, distinguished scientists, eminent professors and scholars, I deeply welcome all of you who are attending the Third International Conference on the Unity of the Sciences sponsored by the International Cultural Foundation. As I am sure you are aware, two previous conferences have been held: the first in New York in November 1972, and the second in Tokyo in November 1973. As the founder of the International Cultural Foundation, I have desired and done my best to create and maintain, throughout these conferences, an atmosphere in which an open and unreserved exchange of opinions could take place. And I have been greatly pleased with the fruitful results of these conferences and the participants who have contributed so much to them.

At the present time, more and more serious problems continue to develop and confront mankind. The solutions to these challenging problems call for and indeed require not partial and local approaches and ideals, but rather a global approach and the wisdom and knowledge of the many distinguished scholars gathered here at this conference.

As a scientist myself, I have been observing with keen interest the development of science and technology. I know that science and technology and what we call the "scientific method" have had a far reaching impact on human life.

Through observation and study of the world of reality, science has extended and expanded this reality beyond what can be perceived by our physical senses. We are cognizant of bacteria, which we can detect only through a microscope. Some of us journey to the moon, directed by computers whose astronomical speed of calculation baffles the human mind, while others talk about making it an everyday possibility. To our naked eyes, the earth still appears flat, but science has compelled us to admit that it is round. A diamond appears to be solid but we were once amazed to know that in fact, it is a scattering of atoms whirling around in quite an empty space. On a more abstract level, the transition from reality to extended reality is described by the transition from classical to quantum mechanics and from the deterministic model to the probabilistic model, both of which are equally or more confusing to common minds.

Although the progress in science has provided us with a tremendous amount of information, we still suffer from our inability to internalize this information and our inability to fully comprehend its deeper implications. Yet in the past, development of science and technology has been aimed mainly at the conquest and exploitation of nature.

Today this very science compels us to set up a new ethical standard. The new ethic should concern itself with the problems of love for nature and a re-examination of human values and the need for cooperation among human beings. It should attempt to set a new view of value and a new ethical norm which can bring about an ideal world of harmonious co-existence among all creatures on the earth.

The development of science and technology has certainly raised issues that invite us to reflect seriously on what is essential for us to remain human and to preserve humanity in our lives. I strongly believe that all this can be made possible only when every field of scientific technology is mobilized for the benefit of mankind and when a cooperative spirit of human activity is available on the part of the men who handle the scientific technology.

I ardently desire and expect the answers to come from you. This will surely be realized by assembling the results of your respective researches with your opinion and wisdom. From the very bottom of my heart I beg you to play the role of the bridge that will connect and lead the present world to the world of higher dimension and absolute value. Founder's Address: 3rd International Conference on the Unity of the Sciences

Honorable Chairman, distinguished scientists, eminent professors and scholars, I deeply welcome all of you who are attending the third International Conference on the Unity of the Sciences sponsored by the International Cultural Foundation. As I am sure you are aware, two previous conferences have been held: the first in New York in November, 1972, and the second in Tokyo in November, 1973. As founder of the International Cultural Foundation, I have desired and done my best to create and maintain, throughout these conferences, an atmosphere in which an open and unreserved exchange of opinions could take place. And I have been greatly pleased with the fruitful results of these conferences and the participants who have contributed so much to them.

At the present time, more and more serious problems continue to develop and confront mankind. The solutions to these challenging problems call for and indeed require not partial and local approaches and ideals, but rather a global approach and the wisdom and knowledge of the many distinguished scholars gathered here at this conference.

As a scientist myself, I have been observing with keen interest the development of science and technology. I know that science and technology and what we call the "scientific method," have had a far reaching impact on human life.

Through observation and study of the world of reality, science has extended and expanded this reality beyond what can be perceived by our physical senses. We are cognizant of bacteria which we can detect only through a microscope. Some of us journey to the moon, directed by computers whose astronomical speed of calculation baffles the human mind, while others talk about making it an everyday possibility. To our naked eyes, the earth still appears flat, but science has compelled us to admit that its round. A diamond appears to be solid but we were once amazed to know that in fact, it is a scattering of atoms whirling around in quite an empty space. On a more abstract level, the transition from reality to extended reality is described by the transition from classical to quantum mechanics and from the deterministic model to the probabilistic model, both of which are equally or more confusing to common minds.

Although the progress in science has provided us with a tremendous amount of information, we still suffer from our inability to internalize this information and our inability to fully comprehend its deeper implications. This inability has led to much anxiety, confusion and uncertainty, which results from a loss of a firm basis and standard of reflection. The World Age And Our Mission

As you well know the world in which we are living is not the world of peace or unity. This world is the result not of God's will but of human will. Due to the human fall we know that we are not living up to the standard set by God. Adam and Eve, who were originally created as children of God who deviated and became separated from Him. Due to the fall of man, husband was separated from wife and wife was separated from husband. This created disharmony in the family. Centered on the fallen parents the children deviated too. Separation occurred between brothers and sisters. If we leave this human world alone, all people will be separated and the world will finally be shattered into pieces.

For fallen men it is something like fighting a battle to become united with each other. To plant into human hearts the idea and goal set by God was a difficult job and only by doing that could we establish human culture and civilization. Men are in search of some lofty goal coming from God. That has been apparent on the human scene. Even in our imagination we have had to fancy that God has set before us a lofty goal and an ideal for us to realize.

If God exists at all, He is unique, absolute, eternal and unchanging; and if we are united with Him in complete oneness, we can achieve the goal. Without finding Him we can never achieve it. Then how can we go back to the lofty ideal of God? We must set the standard for that. We cannot go back to God without separating ourselves from the environment which is separated from Him. The first thing we fallen human beings must do is separate ourselves from the present world order, deny the old world, and encourage ourselves to return to God.

Human beings have endeavored to go back to the standard God set for us at the time of creation and that has determined human history. In world religions, self-denial has been a principle in our path to God. For us to return to God we must sacrifice ourselves for other people. Only by doing that can we find the value of life and the way back to God. Human history is woven from this kind of struggle. We are destined to broaden the scope of our struggle from the individual to the tribal to the worldwide level. In human history the factor which has played the most important role is religion. Through religion alone we can deny the existing order and set up a new standard. Yet in several thousands of years we have not attained the goal.

Roughly, there are two ideologies in the world: democracy and Communism. Presently they are at a stalemate. They have, at the best, enhanced the material world; but when we think of unifying the world under materialism there is a dark side. In material life, one becomes greedier and still greedier to possess more wealth. This is true of people of the past, present and future. Isn't that true of you?

If you go on desiring material wealth on the individual level, the world will be fragmented. Any unity in this world must be forced by some sovereignty or reigning power. Therefore, in this Satanic world true unity is impossible. Spirituality is abstract and vague; we cannot grasp what it is. Then what is the center of spirituality or mentality? Human mentality or spirituality has played the role of mediator to connect man to God, but it has not brought us to full unity with God. Spirituality has been centered on the individual and on the human side.

In human society people have different cultural backgrounds and religious backgrounds. So, people have not been able to look at things from the standpoint of the whole to find out the cause, God. For instance, people in Japan have pursued their own goal -- nationalism. They have not been able to grasp the picture of God's goal. Our problem is to find the original goal set by God. For instance, if Japanese people want to find that kind of standard, they are compelled to search within the scope of their own religion. They cannot transcend it.

From the standpoint of God, we should not set a religious standard within the scope of our own nation's cultural background. There have been many religions which have been established within the scope of national culture, but not many which could transcend the national scope. As you know, there are four great world religions: Christianity, Buddhism, Confucianism and Islam. They began in the hothouse of their own national culture. Therefore there must come a dead end to those religions. If those religions cannot transcend national scope and culture, they cannot unify the whole world. If God exists, and if He desires this world to be unified, then what would God want to see as our religion?

God's will must be to establish a Godly standard and tradition to create a godly world. When we see that God has not been able to establish such a world, then we must think that God has not been within human society but outside the scope of human endeavor. For mankind to return to the ideal of God, we must deny ourselves and separate ourselves from the established order and culture. If God exists, and if human history is nearing the latter days, there will be chaos and confusion in our environment. This will compel us to go in search of something.

If a nation is a leading nation in the world, it is apt to be in more chaos and confusion than others. When we closely examine the situation in America, we see that America has been built on both a material and spiritual foundation. Up to the present what has it's growth been centered on? Our nation's ideal has been Christianity, and its people have struggled hard towards its goals. People from all European nations were gathered here on this continent to found a new nation. They have somehow been able to be united, but unity between black, white and yellow is still not accomplished.

People refuse to be unified race with race and that creates a great problem. Then what could enable you to overcome this problem. You have been able to be united into one as the Europeans or Westerners, but if you cannot unite black, white and yellow races as one people, then there is no way for mankind to be unified. A material factor cannot play the role of unifying black and white. If a spiritual factor, in this nation, Christianity, cannot realize the goal, there is no other way. If the possibility does not exist in the spirituality of the people of the United States, matters have come to a dead end.

Even though America is on the summit of material accomplishment, if she cannot play the role of uniting the whole world through religion, America's role in God's will has not been fulfilled. Even materially, the United States cannot grow any further. As it stands, America cannot play the role. Though Americans have placed value on the spiritual side, material and spiritual development have come to a dead end. American youth are nonchalant and indifferent about religion. They think religions belong to the older generations and not to them. But they have also been disillusioned in material things and are now even denying materialism.

They are in the situation where they have to abandon both the spiritual side and material side of things. Then what will become of America? For young people there is no standard -- on the individual, family, national or worldwide level. They have no bearing, no place to stand. Their way of thinking is "Come what may," and "I don't care." I'm sorry to have to say this but they are below the standard even of animals. In terms of children and parents, even in the animal world, the parental animals take care of their young, but in human society even that kind of emotion is lacking. In materialism children are the product of nature and parents don't take responsibility for them. Drug addicts live ephemeral lives, moment to moment. They have no future, and they have no hope in the future.

Then who can give these people the ideal and goal for which they will struggle hard? They have to have some kind of spiritual goal rather than a material one. All other philosophies and "isms" have been tested; something new, some religion of higher dimension must emerge. There is no other way possible for us to save America and humanity than to have God return to human society. There must rise a group or movement where God's power is poured out in a new way. We are now in the age where we must abandon all the past things. If God exists, He would want us to abandon everything in an absolute way.

In the past husbands and wives somehow managed to live together in considerable unity, but family life is now disintegrating. Then who can create unity in the family in America? Man cannot do the job. For instance, a trend among American youth is men for men and women for women. They don't want to live with the opposite sex. They even deny marriage saying that marriage is a living hell where you are forced to be united with each other. That's human bondage. They are even afraid of the idea of being married. Then who can solve the problem? If they continue like this, there may be in the future a war between male and female. That is possible, because of growing animosity between the sexes.

If children discard their parents, then parents will discard their children. A husband will discard his wife and the wife will discard her husband. In this state of disunity, you as an individual will be left alone. When you are separated from each other, you will be left alone, creating the world of disunity. Hippies, when they deny the existing order, never think that they could be responsible for the world. Then what is their desire? They only know that this world can't go anywhere. Their minds are drifting, and their ardent desire is to make a great leap to reach their goal.

Those who have had the experience of being hippies raise up your hands. I know that there are many. You have denied reality, but in fact even vaguely you have been desiring something. Isn't that true? Even in disillusionment you hoped for something. With that hope inherent in you there can be revolution or struggle for something higher. If you abandoned and denied everything without hope and then were given new hope and new light, you can rid yourselves of misery and be overjoyed. The wider the gap between your old self and your new self, the greater power you will have. With those who have lost all and are given back everything, and more, there can be great power of revolution. If there is an ideology in which we can be united, finding a new value of life on the individual, family, national and worldwide level, and if we can even be united with God, how wonderful it must be. If that is possible then we will enter into worldwide revolution. This is the age of worldwide revolution, the world age.

We have a mission to accomplish to create a unified world. In doing that we will create a new epoch of human history. If there is any such group with such a purpose, what kind of group must it be? If there is any such group whose ideal is that lofty, it will be more than possible to unite individuals, families, nations and east and west. There can be unity between occidentals and Orientals. White people can become one with the black and yellow. Black can be united with white and yellow. Yellow can be united with black and white. They can do that not unwillingly or reluctantly, but with great willingness. When there is no possibility among individuals to be united we cannot dream of uniting the whole world. I wonder if it is possible in the unification movement. Everybody answer me. (Yes.) If you really know the greatness of this ideology, you will not think of marrying a spouse from your own nationality. You will want your marriage to help bring the world into oneness. Then it will be monotonous for a white to marry a white, and wonderful for a white to marry a yellow or black. Interracial marriage will make you people of higher dimension and wider understanding. In that way, the world will sooner become one.

My topic this morning is the world age and our mission. There may be many levels in our mission of the unification of individuals, nations and the world. But without our being able to have interracial marriage, without our being able to put that as the first item, we cannot really accomplish any level of our mission. How can you be happy even though you are wed to another race? White brothers have you ever stopped to think that you were born for a black sister and that you may marry someone from the black race? You do not answer. If you cannot answer that in the affirmative it means that you are not qualified or competent to accomplish the will of God in yourself.

There is only one in love. If the absolute God is to have love that love must be absolute and one. That absolute God, if asked the question, will not answer you that He is the God only of the white race. If in any religion people cannot transcend the racial boundary, that religion cannot become the world religion. If even in Christianity people cannot think highly of races other than the white race, it is doomed to decline. Isn't it true? Christianity is already on the way to decline. If God exists, such a religion is compelled to decline. You must think deeply. If you, hearing me this morning, are resolved that you can marry transcending racial boundaries, then from this moment we can create the heavenly kingdom on earth. Are you that way? (Yes!) If you are resolved, raise your hands.

Two-thirds of the number here are Japanese -- mostly women. The American government is on the verge of exporting them back to their country. The American members in the Unification Church could not say that they would be happy if the Japanese brothers and sisters were gone. What I have in mind is that there is nothing impossible within our movement, however harsh the government may be. I can turn things upside down in a moment. I can solve the problem in three days; because if you marry each other the issue will be closed. If the Japanese brothers and sisters marry Americans the problem will be solved. Suppose they decided to deport the Japanese within three days and on the second day we hold a marriage. Everything will be solved. Then the American newspapers will carry the news that the Unification Church's immigration problem is solved in this way. Isn't that possible? If you think it is impossible, raise your hands. I am not being humorous; we must be serious about this problem.

If we are resolved, any kind of revolution is possible. We can change the world in an instant. If we are strong enough to be resolved in that way, when our group becomes larger and larger what will happen to the world? If such people are multiplied from individual to family, family to nation and nation to the world, then unity of the world can come about quickly, without difficulty. If we fulfill this in our lifetime, what we have done will be long remembered by our descendants, and they will call us great. Then those who will look up to us and minister to us will make themselves great by doing that.

Even though we are without material wealth, if we have a spiritually abundant way of life it is going to be easy for us to create oneness in any unity of society and finally the whole world. Our eyes would long to see that kind of world; our mouths would long to speak among the people of that world, and every other sense would want to be used among people of that world. If all the five senses desire this, even though you are placed in a remote corner of the world, and are ordered not to move from there, would you still be compelled to move about from place to place throughout the universe. If you are this kind of person, all the problems have already been solved. If you have that kind of philosophy and I sent you to the southern tip of Africa as a seed to be planted there, it would take time for you to grow, but you would be an ancestor of the world in God's will. Then it is no problem to unify the whole world.

There are 138 nations in the U.N. But if we created 138 persons resolved to die in the soil of a certain country, and you are planted as a seed there, then your life will spring up to multiply generation after generation. We have too many here, more than 138. Don't you see in me the example? I am just an individual, a single person, yet I am a big issue in the U.S. People are almost afraid to think of me, Reverend Moon. There is almost no one who has not heard my name. I have made this possible -- I initiated my speech in Carnegie Hall on October 1st of 1973. Since then, one year and one month have elapsed. When you think of that, to unify the whole world will be of no problem. If you are as determined, powerful, and qualified as I am, then when you are placed in one of those nations, you can revolutionize it and turn the whole world upside down. Even for the women members it will be possible. Are you confident of that? You Japanese small girls, are you confident? (Yes!) Then the American girls of bigger stature, what about you! (Yes!) I expect a bigger and louder yes from you. What about the American men? (Yes!!)

Among the new members there must be people who complain and say, "There's too much to do here and it is too hard. I cannot go on." It is only too natural that things are difficult. What we are going to do is like fighting a battle because we are going to accomplish such great things. We must become the second creators of the world. Without confidence that you can overcome, you cannot create a new world. You must think it is natural that our battle is going to be severe, and that by overcoming alone you can create the new world. The subjectivity can be created in you.

Upon coming to the United States my determination was to create a new world on this continent. I can solve all the difficult problems existing in the United States and I will create a new nation. Leave the youth in my hands and I will do this. Your problem is Communism. Let me have the Communists and I will create them as new people. Leave Christianity in my hands and I will resurrect it and make it new. Now the Communists are against me and even the existing churches are against me. In spite of them I must advance forward, not retreat. Would you want me to retreat? What are you doing? Advancing or retreating? If you are penniless you must create money. If you have no garment you must create one. If you don't have people you must produce manpower. If you are really determined to buy a whole town, if you cannot carry it out in a certain period of time, you will buy it in your lifetime; if you cannot buy it in your lifetime your descendants can do it. When we say we are going to it, we will do it.

We are not concerned about America alone. Our work must cover the whole world. We must do things on the worldwide level. Are you confident to do that? Then I don't need to talk any longer. In the topic of the world age and our mission we have placed interracial marriage as the item of first priority. If we solve that problem and are resolved, then other problems will be of no consequence. The whole world will be our garden, where we can move about freely from place to place. After several generations your descendants will have black, white and yellow as their ancestors. If there is a mixed ancestral tree, you can give birth to a black, white or yellow child. Then you have 3 blood lineages in your family. God, being the lover of all humanity, will not love only one of those children, but all of them. Whenever I look at you I always wonder, if I wed that white man to that black girl, what kind of children will be born? I am speculating about that. Would you want me to speculate about it or not? If you want to have a black, white and yellow baby in your family does that mean that you would want your children to entertain the same idea? Can you do the same when you are back in Japan? It is only possible in America.

I have been studying quite a bit and I have found that American men would like to marry Japanese women because they are serving, gracious and sacrificial. If, then, all those families were ideal and wonderful, then relatives of the men of those families may envy them, wanting their sons to marry Japanese women also. Then we can invite many Japanese women to live in the United States permanently. If we do this then what will happen to the American girls? They will protest, but nobody in the world will be sympathetic with you. You will have lost your men because you have not been as serving, sacrificial and graceful as the Japanese girls. So, the way for you to fight is to become more that way. If you are robbed of all the men in the U.S. what will you do? You can go to Japan to marry their men.

Anything can happen in a revolution. Japanese men of small stature will marry tall American girls. But American girls cannot complain because they are the only men available. You will be forced to marry Japanese men. Then however big in physical structure you may be, American women must become smaller than the Japanese men, being humble before them. In proportion there are fewer American girls wanting to marry Japanese men than there are Japanese women wanting to marry American boys. I am thinking of wedding you people by the end of next year. So, what I have in mind is to wed the Japanese girls to American men and Japanese men to American girls. What do you think about that? There is nothing to laugh about. I mean what I say. You must be well aware that you are in a transitional period and we are going to create a new epoch of human history.

You must realize the blessedness and greatness in participating in this work. If the immigration bureau does not chase us out, we may not do it, but if they do we will do it. If you are summoned to the immigration bureau to be deported, then I will come and wed you right there. If we do that, the whole world will be appalled and say, "We must surrender before these people. We cannot defeat them. No one but Reverend Moon has done this in the whole of human history!" This will be something ever-shining in human history, so that we won't need to fight. Then your wedding pictures will be the decoration of human history. Aren't you very eager for that? If you are really eager, raise your hands. Those who did not raise your hands now hold them up. If you are unwilling to do that you can have nothing to do with me. Go your way. Other people cannot do this. Those who want me to be the mediator when you marry, raise your hands.

The third seven-year course which we are entering, is the period of the world age. With what are we going to initiate this age? We must initiate the age with the most valuable thing. What is that? To youth, marriage is the most precious thing. If a white girl married to a black man gives birth to a black child and really loves the baby, then she loves the whole black race. If you failed in this, everything you have said and done until now will be only lip service. If a black woman gives birth to a white child and can really love him, then the racial boundary will be erased. There is no other way it can possibly be done. If any of the religions of the world cannot do this, then world unity cannot come about. If we do this there will be more people opposing our movement, mostly from the white race. Then I will unite yellow power and black power and fight against them.

Reverend Moon is famous in the Asiatic part of the world. The black people have not known me so far, but when they know our ideology, they will turn to our side at an instant. What proportion of white people live on the earth? God would not allow the white race, about one-fifth of the world population, to tread down upon the other people. If the white race goes on discriminating against the colored races, and the yellow and black join forces against them, the world will be changed. If that happens great misery will come about in human society. That is why God chose me and had me come to the continent of America to change the hearts of people.

Let me ask you a question. If I am allowed to recreate or give rebirth to Christianity, can I change the whole world? (Yes!) Would you think it possible that I can turn the United States upside down if the Communists of this nation are left in my hands? Do you think I can carry out the project of intermarriage between the races? (Yes!) Then it will become a world issue. You have been seeing me, following me and analyzing me, but have you ever thought that I am the man who can do the most difficult job in the world? For the women members, have you ever felt the blessedness of having met such a man? Your only regret may be that you cannot marry me. But don't worry; I am going to teach you how to raise your own men to be as great or even greater than I am. That's not impossible. Why?

It is because my power and your power added to mine will work for that. Then you can create a person greater than I am. Even though you may be 0.8 our two powers added up will be 1.8, and your future husband will be qualified as 1.8 -- while I am just 1. Be confident; only believe in me and I will make it possible. I still have a long way to go to save the last of the world's population. My life will be spent in that way, but you and your husbands will live in a world which will already have been erected as the kingdom of God. Your husband then can be greater than I am. You will say that Father brought up a weighty topic this morning, but the conclusion is that we have to have interracial marriage. It is the most difficult and the greatest problem of all.

Through this strategy all things will be liberated. Resembling God you are going to create everything -- the ideal husband, ideal wife and ideal self. In that case there will be happiness everywhere. You are going to be the persons to create the ideal. If the most beautiful girl is wedded to a man of bad humor and she goes on leading an ideal life, then that is the ideal. Where we can live an ideal life while other people cannot under the same circumstances, then that is the ideal. The ideal world is the place where there is no discrimination between high and low. Everybody can love one another. You must have thought of the ideal mate as someone higher than you. In that case you will have known something higher but not necessarily deeper. A person who is high may be conspicuous and always in the light, but if you want something deep you must travel into the darkness deeper and deeper.

If you go through the dungeon of life and come into the light again, you create the ideal. Before meeting Mother I had thought of many such things. I had fancied marrying an American girl so plump as to need four chairs to sit on. If by my doing that alone I could unify the world, I would have done that. I thought of marrying a black woman. If a black woman the size of a fat horse said she loved me, what should I do? If she is perfectly healthy I could find beauty in her, but if she were crippled, one eyed and her limbs were not functioning, what could I do? With all those disadvantages she would complain against me every moment of her life. But I would honestly say, "Yes I would marry her if that is really God's will and if that way alone I could accomplish God's will." If it were God's idea for me to marry a harlot I would do that. I did not answer God with empty words. Restoration might have to start from the very dungeon of life -- from the prostitutes. I imagined that I had to go through great persecutions from women. I was confident to serve such a woman in a way that she would be compelled to be touched.

I was determined not to marry a woman of high education. I pictured an innocent girl perhaps without a full education -- pure, innocent, honest and sincere. After my sincere answers to the tests coming from God I was allowed to have a wonderful wife such as she is. Because of that, the ugliest woman in the spirit world cannot object saying that your standard of love is only for beautiful woman. They cannot say that because I have gone through all the tests and passed them. By my doing that, people even in the spirit world cannot complain against me. That is why God allowed me to have a more beautiful woman than I expected. Some of you may say that Mother is not the most beautiful woman in the world, but I have decided that she is.

I said these things because I have something in mind for you and I must let you know that without your passing the tests from God, you cannot be situated where you ought to be. By the end of next year you must put yourself in better order so that you can enter into the new seven-year course prepared. The Japanese brothers and sisters here to work for this nation must love this nation more than the American brothers and sisters do, because this is the land of your future husbands and wives. If you are not going to love this nation more than the Americans do, you cannot create an ideal world here. Japanese members, have you loved America more than the Americans? If you are confident of that, you are wonderful. If that is true and if the Americans would ill-treat you, then America is doomed to peril and before long you will have control over this nation.

If your family life is ideal with God abiding in your family, then the tribe, nation and world will be similar, because they are expansions of the family. Then we can conclude that the whole world will be ours. Isn't it true? Let us show to the world the most wonderful families. People will see wonderful churches in our group which they can never find elsewhere. Let us form a tribe or nation to which there will be no equal in the world. With that kind of tribe we will form the nation which people will see. People must delight in this and copy or imitate what is good. This is natural. Up to the present, Japanese people are thought to be the best in imitating others. That is recognized worldwide. In that way you are prepared to be really receptive and to imitate me in the best way possible in our movement. Starting with imitating others, if you Japanese members will end up imitating my way of life in the Divine Principle movement, then you will be masters of all. If you can imitate God and put His way of life into practice, then at the end you are going to be the masters of the world. It is for this reason that God has chosen Japan for the Eve nation. She will be the example for the rest of the nations.

If a woman is married to a man, she is supposed to imitate the man, that is, live his family's way of life. That is the way for a woman to go. But things have been different with American women. No two masters are allowed in a family. If the husband and wife are equally strong or hard, disharmony and separation will come. If the man is ahead of the woman, the woman must be behind him. That is what the principle of creation teaches us. Human history has been woven by men. They fought the wars and created the traditions. There is no principle for a woman to become the messiah. I once heard a woman proclaiming that the messiah must be a woman, but if a woman is a messiah, what will you do? The messiah must be a male being. Even God relies more on men.

We must put things in their original order. Male is in the subject position as spirituality is in the subject position to materialism. God is in the subject position while man is in the object position. Finally, men of religion must through government reign over the people. But separation between religion and politics came about. The Renaissance between the 14th and 16th centuries created humanism, and out of humanism came materialism. Humanistic materialism then took the subject position. We must reverse the order. In our movement we have the mission of creating the new order in which God is the subject and man is the object, and in which spirituality is the subject and materialism is the object. By doing that we will have a spiritual renaissance. The renaissance must take place on the individual, family, national and worldwide level. That is our mission. We are entering upon the age of the world in which I must think of international and interracial marriages. We are going to create new religion, new politics, new culture, new economics and new everything. I am preparing for that. I have many things to do which you are not aware of. As time goes by I will put them into practice, and at a certain point we can move the whole nation. It will come at any moment.

In a way we have attacked the United Nations through our fast and demonstration. We have attacked America herself. We have attacked Communism. We have even come into collision with Christianity. We are now pioneering into the academic world with professors and students on the college campuses. We are going to attack the youth of the world. In our unified front there will be many fierce battles but we are destined not to retreat. In Korea our members have planned to have the Olympics for religious people. We will have gatherings of artistic religious people. We already have the Korean Folk Ballet and New Hope Singers International. But more and different kinds of groups will be established. Before long I am going to create a basketball team and football team stronger than any other. What we need now is a place to train those people at the earliest possible time. What must that place be? It will be the university we establish. What I am contemplating is how to establish a university which can develop the highest standard in the shortest possible time. I am thinking of bringing as many as several thousand students initially so that I can make the university strong from the beginning. IOWC's should begin CARP on every university campus in every state. When the time comes I will command every CARP leader to send students. We can receive 10,000 students at one time. We can call our CARP members from all over the world. In our university we will train our students to be the best in every field.

In order to create the university in the shortest possible time we must find world renowned educators in every possible field. I thought of America as the best place to begin the university. In America, New York state is the best place. That is why I am buying more land in this vicinity. I will create many champions to build a new civilization. With our people we can finish a full four years' course in two years time. If we are determined to do that, our university will be the strongest and the most wonderful one in the world. We will be champions both in intellect and physical strength. Would that be possible for us or not? Even in the athletic fields I am going to be the coach. Once I try something I will make the best of it. So in gymnastics I will drive you hard to do the job. If others train people to be the champions in 24 hours, I will do it in one-third of that time. If we established that kind of university we can sweep the world in every field.

Why are you eager to establish such a university in the soonest possible future? Because you will be students there. Plan on that! Should we begin in a year, 2 years, 5 years, 10 years? Which would you choose? Then shall we begin today? (Yes.) We have many problems. We have no site, no money, and no manpower. We can begin after solving all those problems. The short cut would be having our girls marry the heirs of the General Motors company. I am thinking of marrying our women to the most renowned presidents of universities. Then the problems will be solved right away. Then we can make money right away, and restore men right away. Then there will be no difficulty in establishing such a school. If those two ideas are impossible, though, what shall we do?

Some will say we can wait until God does something. That's a wonderful idea and I would like to do the same. If you wait with folded arms, until God does something what will happen? If God alone could do such things He would have done them long ago. God, rather, waits until men do something. But there has been no one who even attempted to do such things. Our group is the only such group and God will rely on us. But what shall we do with only a handful of people?

The answer is apparent. There is no other way possible than for me to command you to go out to bring in money and capable men. Don't rob people of money. Don't force people to give you donations, but let them be moved and willing to give. It is very difficult, but in proportion to the difficulty it is valuable and worth doing. Can you do it? (Yes.) Some of you frowned. Are you really confident? If you have a small piece of something to eat, to make it go around to many people you must cut it into tiny portions. If I am going to do such a vast project with such a small number of people, I have to allocate enough work for 100 people to one person. Don't you think so? (Yes!) When you say yes I can see that some of you have confidence. But some of you laugh and are without confidence. What about you Japanese members. Do you have confidence?

I say to myself that it is wonderful that we have so many youth in our movement. I have gone through torture in the prison camps, I have been severely hungry. But through those experiences I learned that people under the age of 30 can restore their health quickly. After two weeks recuperation you can become healthy again. However ragged the clothing you have been clad in, if I buy wonderful clothes for you, you will be handsome gentlemen. So I rely on those under the age of 30. You are like the flour dough molded by being beaten upon. I want to try to pull it apart and still if it were cut in two, it would expand. Would you want to be dough which is expanded and so elastic as to become longer and longer, never being cut, or would you be cut right away? In making the dough we must apply pressure. If I put you in a small bowl and push you hard, wherever there is a crack you will try to escape; but when I lift the dough up you will have to cling to the lump. Then what am I going to do with that dough? I will make money using it. I will make manpower using it. What am I going to do with the money and manpower? I am going to establish the university where I can educate people. Education is a great thing.

I have bought 574 acres of land within barely more than one year. If I have been able to buy that much land starting from a penniless situation, then from now on we have to buy five times as much land as that in a year's time. You will say, "Oh he is going to drive us five times as hard." Then if you feel like escaping why don't you leave now? Are you going to remain here?(Yes.) From now on I will trust you. I am going to put the pressure on you. From the year 1975, a fiercer battle is ahead of us. At the end of the second seven-year course we must think that 6,000 biblical years have passed. But however hard we may have struggled we have not been able to enter a worldwide scope. From the beginning of the third seven-year course we must make our movement a worldwide one. Which will be stronger -- the power of pressure I'm going to apply to you or your power to lift that pressure up? We have to make it possible. I am confident of that. If you are going to be educated in our university and become great leaders of the world, it will be easy for us to change the world. You are the age of university students. How wonderful it will be if you are determined to establish your own university and invite your own professors, studying under them to become great leaders. Upon your graduation from the university, you will be proud of the diplomas you receive. You will be sent to many nations to become the leaders there, not sent to small jobs. If we can create leaders and send them out to the rest of the world there is nothing greater.

As you know we have prepared solid ground for many professors to be invited to our university. Through the Unified Science Conference, many Nobel Prize winners and many other famous professors will be connected with us. At the London Conference this year some 24 Nobel Prize winners and 120 professors are invited to the conference. Our goal for next year will be somewhere between 70 to 100 Nobel Prize winners and 360 professors. Meanwhile, the fame of Reverend Moon is spreading to every corner of the earth. Reverend Moon has been an obscure figure until now but I will soon be on the world scene. A famous rumor about me is that I am a billionaire or multi-millionaire. I don't have a penny in my pocket but I have the ability to create money. By next year I am going to mobilize 1,000 members and the following year 10,000 members for fund raising. If one person can make $3,000 per month, after a year we will have 360 million. So we can buy everything, including the Empire state building. It is not impossible. Then we can create the best university. We can establish a national and international world bank with branches in every nation. Then we will send out our own members to each of the branches. We will have the strongest bankers' organization and higher deposit rates than any other bank in the world.

Next year we are going to send our missionaries to at least 120 nations. Three will be sent to each nation -- one Japanese, one American and one German. Later I will send a Korean. Why will the Koreans come later? Because we have to make a solid financial foundation first. We can have money sent to a country from Japan, America and Germany. Then our money can be concentrated in one place if it is needed. A few years later I will hold the hegemony of the financial world. How? Because we will have the strongest market organization in the whole world. If the Unification members are ordered to buy only cars from Ford Motor Company, then we will have a contract with the president of the company. I can control the Ford Company and then we can buy cars at the lowest cost. If we shift from Ford to another company, they will more than welcome us. There will be a fight between the companies over us. We are going to start this from our fund raising campaigns. I have a clear vision of what the world economy will be like. I know clearly which product will have a broad market. If I tell you, you won't believe it, but wait and see. Seven years from now these things will come true.

Some of you may fall away because it is too difficult to carry out your mission in this movement. You may go away and try your best at a job above the level of most people but some years later when you look at us you will find that your success cannot compete with ours. You want to be successful in your worldly career too. Isn't that true? (Yes!) If success is what you want you must cling to me and not let me go. You have witnesses that when I say things I will carry them out. What I said in Korea was accomplished -- everything! The eldest members of our movement are made or being made the presidents of companies. I have bought houses for them and I will buy more for more people. Those who fell away and now see how successful we have been are envious. Who knows? Some among you will fall away and later find yourselves in the same situation as those who have fallen away in the past.

I am thinking of making money, creating wealth to be used for God's purpose. You may think it is luxurious for me to ride in the Lincoln limousine, but before long I can easily make Fords for you at the lowest cost. I am not saying unfounded things. I am saying things on a firm foundation. I am going to choose the strongest members among you. If I choose the strongest members to be used at a later date for a special purpose, will the test be easy? Your eyeballs will fall out, your mouths will be distorted and your noses will be blown away. It will be difficult to be selected. I have a keen perception of people and my evaluation of you is more than accurate. In seven years' time I have made Mr. Kuboki the most famous person among the Japanese youth. Do you believe in my ability? Do you know this in your heart? Then I am reassured.

If you want to be successful, I will make you into successful persons. But my way of making such persons is unique. If you are going to win the highest place, you must go down to the bottom and start from there. If you are not situated low enough, then you must dig a hole to go to the very dungeon and soar up to touch heaven. Then everything in between will belong to you. If you really want that kind of success, don't complain. You must be as obedient as a prisoner in jail. Would you choose to do that? We think this way because we want to shorten the time. Since the year 1972 we have had so many speaking tours that I have had little opportunity to command you to do such things. Since the City of New York is the representative city of the United States, those who are working there must represent all United States members. Therefore I rely on you to accomplish what we want. We have precisely 366 members in New York. By using those 366 members how can we serve the whole city of New York in an even more ardent way than we did in the Madison Square Garden Project? I have already ordered you to bring at least 3,000 members within a few months. I called all the Japanese members to New York City to concentrate on our work here. Are you confident?

You will remember that in the past the Japanese regime oppressed the Korean people and tortured them. Some Korean patriots were martyred. I am clearing away the resentment of a nation by using you Japanese members. If you are only willing to receive and accomplish the mission then you have done something more than great. Therefore I am going to be a harsh and even cruel person to you. Will that be all right? I will be relentless. Is that all right? I am sometimes sympathetic towards Mr. Kamiyama but I have a reason to give orders to him. When I ask him to make a certain amount of money, from a point of pennilessness, he answers "Yes!" In order for me to be able to ask that I cannot be too sympathetic with him. I must seem cruel to him, pushing him harder and harder. In that case he must be willing to receive orders from me. From that point you will be successful.

Don't you feel sick when you are told such difficult things? But it cannot be helped! I am forced to do this because within a certain interval of time, in the timetable of God, we have to accomplish a certain amount of work. If we do not, all we have done will be nullified. What we have accomplished will collapse. I want you to test me. You can say to yourself, "If Father really needs that much money let's make the money, pour it out to him. Then we can see what he does with it. If he needs manpower let us give it to him and see if he uses it in the right way." You can compete with me and even test me. Now is the time to begin.

You may say, "What a harsh man he is and how miserable for us to have met him." I was invited to America but I have not been able to sightsee or tour the country. I have pushed myself harder and harder. There seems to be no end to it. I don't have the freedom even to die, because I know that if I die at this point I am destined for Hell. This is the truth! If there were any place for me to escape, I would have done so long ago. But I am being pushed harder and harder by the power above. I am the person with the heavy burden of the restoration of the whole world. I have no teacher as you do. I have no friends as you do. I have no one to consult with. I am not supposed to do that.

Without the understanding of others, I have to carry out the mission of living up to the standard of God's will. There is a timetable or schedule set by God and I have to meet His standard. Have you ever had a sense of such responsibility? Have you ever established God's standard on the individual, family or national level? You can never imagine what difficulties I am going through. I have to meet the standard in a certain interval of time. I have to decide what is good, what is bad and whom to use or not to use, when to do and when not to do things. It is the most difficult position a man can imagine. There have been many world leaders in the past, but of all of them, I am shouldering the most difficult job. In that sense I am the loneliest person in the world. But knowing that God is in a more difficult situation than I am, I can bear it.

Compared to what I am going through you are in a happier position. You don't have to go through the same difficulties. You can imagine how much zeal I would give to the master if I were placed in a members' situation, if I am able to work this much as the leader. I often think if I were a member I would minister to the master, follow him, and accomplish my mission. You have only to follow me. You have to dash on one road headed for the goal. But my strategy is three-sided. I must control the spiritual world and connect the physical world to it. It is no simple thing. If I am not able to bring those two into complete oneness, I cannot restore the whole world. There is still more. I have to connect the Unified Family [Unification Church] with my family, the nation to our church and the world to our restored nation.

Very possibly you are tempted to go your own way . Even my children are in surroundings where people long for individual freedom. They are apt to be misled. I am anticipating problems in educating my own children -- more problems than if I had not brought them here. But as for you, you have just to follow me as the example and follow the example of my family. The most piteous person is no one else but myself. And in a way the most piteous family is no other than my own. Compared to the world, people of the Unification family are more pitiful than they. But it cannot be helped, because God is more pitiful than I. We must go through miserable conditions as long as God is miserable. Until the day comes when we can liberate God we must go through difficulties. If possible, we will shorten the period by working more through more difficulties.

At the threshold of the new age, the age of the world, our mission is great. We must realize that we are the only group who can accomplish the job. Unless we succeed, God will be miserable, the past saints and martyrs will remain in misery and our future descendants will be living in Hell. So we must feel the urgency of carrying out our mission. Whether or not I will be able to lift our movement to the world standard in three years will determine whether or not our plan will be successful. The champions we have in this period are you. So I want you to really accomplish the mission in that set time. Members may fall away in that period, but I am going to push you harder and harder. You must be resolved and prepared for that. You may fall away, be frustrated and collapse. But I cannot do that. I must go on.

We can imagine that when members fall away, they fall away during the most difficult part of our work. So you must be determined and prepared not to fall away. Imagine that you are always in a difficult position. You must visualize how to fight during the time of worst difficulty. In that way alone you can carry out your job. In the providential history under the will of God, 1972 through 1977 or 1978, the seven most crucial years, you must try your best to accomplish your mission. If during that period you are not able to establish the standard or tradition, I will no longer stay in the United States. I will shift the work to another place and the providence of God will go in a different direction.

Then the missions of the nations playing the important roles now -- the Adam and Eve roles -- will be shifted. In Jesus' days, when the Jewish peoples failed to minister to him, the direction of his mission shifted to other people. The same thing can happen today. I have already ordered some people to prepare the way in case we have to shift the national roles. You must realize that we are now in the final battle. Whether or not Korea, Japan and America really accomplish will determine whether or not the heavenly providence will be shifted to other countries. In the history of the Unification Movement those crucial years may be the hardest ones, and I may keep getting angry with you. I am really serious, because if I fail to accomplish with those nations having most significant missions, human history will be changed for the worse. The tradition of human history under God's providence will collapse. The present world will perish.

But I see you are not as serious as I am. If you wait and see what happens it will be too late. So even if I have to beat you, I must push you on the way. The better thing is for you to succeed before having to be beaten. The women must be ready to act as men, and the men must be ready to act like tanks on the battlefield. If you are resolved to do that and if you think you can do even more than that, then you can never complain. If you complain at all, complain at my not giving you more to do. I must say repeatedly that we are entering the age of the world -- the age of the cosmos.

We must be grateful that we have life in this period and that we are given the mission to work with the True Parents and God. You must live with that idea. I do not want to prolong the period but shorten it. I am determined to shorten the period and so are you. Therefore you must expect more hardships to come. However hard your work may be in the future, you must be ready to accomplish it. Women may not have time to dress themselves with good clothing and make up. But even though you may look like men from the labor camp, you must go on, because there is not always time. Do you understand?

Today is November 3rd. By April of next year we are going to cross over the greatest peak. April was the month in which the holy matrimony was held, beginning a new epoch. By April we must make 8,000 members or more. By the year 1977 or 1978 we must have 30,000 members. It should be no problem. With 600 strong members we can cause Senators of our choice to be elected. Then we can guide America. Does it sound possible? If you bring those Senators into the movement you can marry them. I would always have my goal set, knowing that if you idle away your time, you cannot attain the goal. We must have 8,000 people by the end of April. If on the East Coast you can bring 8,000 members the same can be done by the members on the West coast. Then from east and west we will apply pressure in the middle of America.

When I have finished my eight city tour I will fly to Korea from the West coast. I promised Mr. Kamiyama and the mobile team commanders who have done well that they will be taken to Korea also. But before they go to Korea with me they have to meet a certain standard. When I go back to Korea I will declare the beginning of the third seven-year course. So we are now in the critical period. I want Mr. Kamiyama to meet the goal within two months' time.

We are slowly stirring up the world like ripples in the water. The ripples are destined to expand. Soon we can turn the world. You must be stronger than I am. I want you to become really strong. Have you already become strong? (Yes!) If that is true then from now on will you be able to accomplish the worldwide mission. I want Mr. Kamiyama to be really hard on the New York members, never letting them sleep or eat good food, never letting them rest. But dash on the way; and if you can accomplish your mission, God will help you and he will never leave you alone. He has to help you. Therefore, win the goal in the soonest possible time, bringing victory to God.
