Those who just have arrived from the different parts of the country, who have not seen me before, would you kindly raise your hands? Thank you.

Before you came to New York, I'm sure you had been looking forward to seeing me in New York, and that very person you have been looking forward to seeing, that's me, right here. I'm sure you have had various kinds of thoughts in coming to New York. When I first visited Japan, a great many members of our family were certainly looking forward to seeing me, and they thought our Father was superhuman; therefore, he did not need breakfast, and he didn't need stairs to go up to the second floor.

But God created man according to His natural law, and there is truly no superhuman in His creation; all have to obey the natural process of law. However, this body, these five senses, these limbs, these arms and legs, these particular shapes are indeed masterpieces of God's creation. God created man as the fulfillment of His ideal. It is for that ideal that God created man, to be a subject of His joy and to return glory, so that we shall become the fulfillment of God's creation. Therefore, in His work of restoration of the universe and man, God does not use a supernatural law. He works through the natural process, step by step. Through man God is going to ultimately fulfill His perfection.

There are good people as well as evil people in this world. The good man belongs to God, and the evil man belongs to Satan. What is a good man? A good man, in the sight of God, follows His law and His heart; that's a good man. Let's say you have the most wonderful parents in this world. What's the definition of wonderful parents? Those parents are so close to your heart, and relate to you so closely, so that you are in the very core of the parents' heart, and

the parents also remain in your heart. It is a heart to heart relation and a good teacher and pupil relationship is the same. Also good friends, good society, good nation, and good world-all these are related in heart; that's the good relationship.

Goodness is oneness. So goodness between God and man is determined by the closeness between God and man, goodness between the parents and children, and nations and people, the government and people. All relationships are determined by the closeness of the two. So good and good tradition has one central rallying point, whether it's on a small scale or large scale. That central principle which we rally around for goodness, from the family level to the higher level of the universe, would always be the same. Goodness never changes. Goodness never quits. Goodness is always the same; it is the beginning and the end of a perfect heart to heart relationship.

When a good couple, man and woman get married, that same principle should be existing from the start. At the end of life and all throughout life, that principle must remain, in order that they remain a good couple. This is also true for the relationship between good brothers, and for the existence of a good society and a good nation; in each case the principle is the same.

Then why are we here? Why do we assemble in this auditorium today? You did not come for me. You came for God. The subject of goodness is God, who is unchanging, eternal, and unique. He is the cause of goodness, and He remains with the result. Yes, I am leading the Unification Church movement. However, I myself am not the cause, but the cause is up there -- God. I am the result of that cause. Also, God has a clear goal to which we are moving today. That objective must be achieved by the individual, by the family, by the tribe, by the nation, by the world, by the universe, and even by the spiritual world. But here on earth, so many people have no idea about this universe, about that objective. They have no purpose for living. They do not have the answer to why they are here. Their goal of life is hazy. They do not have a clear-cut goal as to the objective of their lives.

Many Christians or religious people might say, "Well, I'm living for Christ. " Buddhists might say, "I am living for Buddha. " But those who are assembled in this congregation must answer, "We are living for God, for the over-all purpose of God's objective. " And more specifically, what? God has a central goal, and surrounding an external goal, too. What is the core of that central goal? Not the nation, not the family, not the tribe, not the society, not the world, but the central point of God's goal is the individual, one perfect individual. And you, as an individual, are the ultimate goal God wants to reach.

If God started in a certain point then where do we meet, where do I have to start? Shall we start in the middle, or somewhere in between the goal and you? You must start at the same point where God has started, the same point, from the same position. You must meet God at this starting point. On the route to your ultimate goal you are not alone, you are moving and going together with God. In your every move, from your starting point to your ultimate goal, no matter how many times you go back and forth, you are not alone. You always make your move with God.

Have you ever thought such a person is living upon the face of this earth? Do you have that confidence that you are with God? Let us seriously think about it. Yes, the human mind does vary, and is changing so many times, even during one day. That's the typical human mind. Therefore, on this earth, there are so many people who are just living a wandering life, without a clear objective, without any companion, without God. Where are they wandering about? They started with a hazy purpose, without a clear-cut goal. Therefore, the process is very hazy. Their ultimate goal is very hazy. So they just have a wandering life.

Christianity predicted there will be an end of the world, not only the Christian religion, but all other religions of the world are predicting a certain end of the world. However, even though they say it, they do not know the clear definition of the end of the world. Everyone makes his various definition of the end of the world according to the founder of his religion. They are moving toward the end of the world according to their own definition. But who really represents the position of the entire mankind, and is his definition equal to God's definition? Is there such a religion which represents God's central way.

There are not many religions which could constantly answer, "Yes, I represent God's definition. " There are not many religions and not many individuals truly living in accordance with God's definition of His will and the end of the world.

Then what is the real and ultimate definition of the end of the world in which we as individuals, society, nation, and world can consummate our purpose? The goal of the individual and the goal of the family cannot be different ones. Because God's way is one way unchanging and unique and eternal. Then where God can take joy, is where the individual can take joy, the family can take joy, and the tribe and the nation can take joy.

Who represents God's joy? Who represents God's way? Who could say confidently that, "I, my family, my tribe, my nation, and my world are truly moving towards God's ultimate goal"? Is there such a man, such a champion in this world who could say, "God, in order to achieve His ultimate purpose and goal and joy, needs me; He needs my family, He needs my tribe, He needs my nation"? Do you think there is such a representative? You said, "Yes," but you may not be thinking the same thing I am thinking.

The end of the world is truly where God wants to consummate His ultimate purpose, There is so much confusion and chaos in this world that God wants to reorganize it. That one juncture of human history is the end of the world. Yes, if there were a group, or an individual who could truly say that they or he were the representative of God, then this would have been a great fortune for humanity and for human history. But that was not found.

This morning you met me here. Was it decided that you and I should meet? When did we receive this mandate and this appointment? We are all destined to meet one man. That man is the guide, who can really bring us to that new point from which we can begin our journey with God to the ultimate goal. The one who can lead us and shed this light upon us, is the man we need to meet. If we find such a man, such guide, such light, such a life companion, then that man is worth more than the value of our family, and our society, and the nation and the world. He is the most precious one under the sun. For that precious man, there is nothing we cannot give up, nothing we cannot sacrifice. We can go beyond ourselves, our family and the nation and the world.

Because that particular man, who can really guide from the beginning to the end, is a companion of God, he is the answer to my life, the answer to my family, the answer to society, the answer to the world. Therefore, first of all, what I need is that particular man, not the rest of society. That man is the eternal way, not one who just exists temporarily and then disappears, but the way to lead to eternity with God. That is the goal, and that is the man whom God is relying upon. God sent such a man as a mediator or guide to humanity, to shed light so that all men through him can see the light.

Through that man we meet God. Through that man we see God's joy. Through that man we unite with God, and through that man God remains eternally with us. Yes, we have one ambition. We want to become true sons and daughters of God. And once you are given that title, a son of God or a daughter of God, then you don't want to be restricted. As much as God and our Father have freedom, you want to enjoy the same freedom. You want to go everywhere where Father is. And when God is absolutely good, I know we all want to be of the same absolute goodness.

So the conclusion is, therefore, that humanity, and this world needs such a man. How wonderful that in this world we can find such a man. Just as a thought, just as a glimpse of thought, it always makes us excited. But in reality, if you ever find such a man in your life, then you really pinch yourself in order to realize your true joy. In other words, that impossible joy becomes reality. Do you agree? If such a person exists, do you want to see him? From what position -- the last or the first? Yes, we all want to be the first to meet that man. There are all kinds of competitions in our world, but nobody wants to win any other game more seriously. If you know such a person, you really want to be the first champion to meet him.

Then what is he bringing to us? If he is bringing a gift, that should be the most precious gift to the sons and daughters. That person is also bringing the most precious to our family and our home. That man is bringing that something that God would really like to see in our tribe, in our home, in our individual lives, and in our nation.

Then let's ask ourselves, what would we like to have? Money? Knowledge? Power? Well, these are good. I wouldn't mind having all those. But they are secondary. The most important thing is your own pride and joy that you have a certain value within yourself. You want to have a certain pride that no matter how almighty and great God is, you move in one direction, then even God must follow you and come with you. That almighty God needs me, I am indispensable in His sight-you can have this kind of confidence and value and pride. If you achieve that value, that confidence in yourself, no joy can surpass it. Think of it. God will come and hold you and say, "Don't go away. I need you. " How wonderful if God comes to you and says, "I need you. Don't go away!" In other words, think of yourself in the position of a lover of God. God loves you and says, "Just stay with me. Please love me, and then I will give you everything I have. The rest of the world is yours." Doesn't it feel good? Yes, indeed, we are very greedy, aren't we?

Then if there is a way to become such a lover in the sight of God, and if you become such a person achieving that position, what comes next? What would you do after that? What do men really desire and what do women dream of? First, we want to possess God. Once you have God, then as a man you want to have a woman. The women wants to have a man. What else? That is really all; nothing else. Have you ever thought, "I want to have such a woman, I want to have such a man?" Nothing can exceed the value of such a valued woman and valued man. It is most logical, of course. If somebody asked me that question, I would answer that way. How about you? The same?

Then suppose you find such a wonderful, ideal, and most precious mate. Then would you want to be united without God, or with God? Then would you consult with God, or would you make your own decision by yourself". When you go out to the shops, to buy some suit, or whatever, would you like to make up your mind all by yourself, or do you want to have some companion to discuss with and share the joy of shopping together? If you find something very precious, a very lovely item, then you want to have somebody whom you trust and love to ask, "How do you like this? I like it very much. " The greatest shopping project you have is, for man to shop for one woman, and a woman for one man. You cannot make up your mind by yourself. Why don't you all go to God, and ask, "God, how do you like her? Do you want me to have her?" Or, "How do like that man? Is it all right with you?"

If God said to you, "Well, yes, that woman is very ideal for you, " and God said to the woman, "Oh, that man is really handsome and really a hero. Go after him," then you feel that's good. Knowing that God approves of him or her, you will not unite in a very miserable way. You will really express your joy and confidence and happiness when you meet under those circumstances. Will your eyes be like a rabbit's eyes, frightened? You wouldn't have that kind of expression, do you? You will really smile, and broaden your expression of joy and happiness; your whole body will be really dancing for joy-you will feel that kind of mood.

Even in this world we see the happiness and joy of lovers meeting. When soldiers who went to Vietnam came back to their home country, on their arrival at the pier, the men and women united into one and they just held each other. They had no way to contain their Joy. They just didn't know what to do with their joy. But suppose you know that those lovers are approved in the sight of God, and God is really smiling at them and blessing them, how much more joy can you enjoy? Whatever you do, what ever type of expression you make to express your joy, God will be with you. God's smile is with you.

In creating man and during human history, God wanted to see such a moment; He wanted to have such a joyful moment in the sight of God; but we know that the fall of man destroyed all this opportunity. So man lost the true joy. This is the tragedy of all tragedies.

This is the misery of all miseries. Yes, the more you think of it, the more you realize in what tragedy, in what darkness man has been living. So we come to the natural conclusion: the work of God has been the work of restoration. Therefore, the ultimate destination of the restoration of God is such a place of joy.

All the religions are tools to get there. Religious people are those who are striving towards that goal. And all human history is facing toward that one ultimate moment of achievement and fulfillment, that place of joy.

So this is the most obvious proof that Judeo-Christianity has been playing the central role to achieve that ultimate goal of joy. Christianity set the goal to have a bride and bridegroom. This is Christianity. So Christianity is one religion God must be centered upon. This one God loves. Since God is setting His goal in that particular place of joy, all men have to reach it and meet it. And this consummation of joy will be expressed in what the Bible describes "Marriage supper of the Lamb." So all these basic truths of how God moves through Christianity are one undeniable proof that the living God exists.

It is our goal to meet such a person, to go to such a place. Then our lives are fulfilled. Now then, such a man found God, found a mate-man for woman, and woman for man-what comes next? (Children.) I see here in the Western world that people do not want to have children. This is one of the saddest most ridiculous situations.

When you really come to the moment when you have your own children, would you truly love them? If you really have such parents who truly love from the bottom of their hearts, then whatever you are whether a hippie, yippee, or whatever-you are a happy person. What is the most feared thing to those children? Actually, separation from the loving parents is the most fearful thing.

So truly, what we need before we all become parents, are loving parents above us. We need parents to whom we can return our love beyond our life, because the source of our life is there. It is the ultimate and principled way of life for children to live up to the loving parents' expectations, to be pious. Even in the fallen world all the parents want children that way; even in the fallen world such a relationship is a beautiful one. How much more so in the perfected world! Even in this fallen world a trace of the original truth, a trace of the original kingdom still remains. Therefore, the same virtue is beautified and given value in our fallen society. So once you reach the perfected society, that is the ultimate beauty.

Then where does the love of God come from? The love of God starts from perfected man and perfected woman. And this comes through husband and wife. Then where will that love that comes through husband and wife go? Does it go away and disappear? Where will the love of God go? It goes through your children. Then where will that love go? Will its blossoms waste? Where will that love go after reaching the children? Do you want to have only one son and one daughter, or more than one? (More.) We are a traitor to the trend of world society; they are crying, "Population explosion. " They just don't want to have children. You don't mind going against that rule, do you?

And where will that parents' love go? It goes to the children and then it will spread. The love of God comes down through the parents love to the children. Then when there is more than one brother and more

than one sister, it will turn into love among the brothers and sisters. That's the way God's love works. Then will the love of God stop right there or sill go on? Where will it go? That love will go on from the brothers and sisters to the tribe, from the tribe to the nation and the nation to the world. That love will not stop even at the world. It will come back to God. In other words, that love initiated by God will go all the way and make a grand circle, a world tour, a tour of the universe and then come back to God with the result of beauty. That will bring back beauty and joy to God.

So what will make God most pleased? What will make God joyful? Money? (No.) Power? (No.) Yes, no matter how almighty God is, he is thirsty for one thing, thirsty for one thing-love. Love is what God needs. So what God really needs is love. What man really needs is also what? (Love.) So we resemble whom? (God.) So actually, God and man are the same. Then all folks are seeking love, and those two entities will have give and take with each other and fulfill their love. While we are fulfilling the ultimate love, all the other human needs are met.

Now then, at this point, I can ask you, what is God's desired starting point, His desired way of life, His desired ultimate goal. Now all of you can answer that question. (Love.)

Now then, for what purpose were we born? For what purpose do we live? All can be solved through love. Love is the fulfillment of life. That's the purpose for which we were born, the purpose for which we live. So since that is the goal of God and the goal of man, God must send someone who can guide mankind toward that goal. So whoever claims this goal, this ultimate purpose in the life of God and the life of man, must be the greatest of all saints. And if God sends the Messiah, the Messiah must bring that goal, nothing else. So there can be no deviation. We know clearly that there must be a starting point with God, a clear way, and a clear goal. We know what God likes most. And also, we know what the most precious gift to God is.

Then we come to the conclusion: we must find such a goal. If we have not been able to find it, then we must not stop searching for such a goal, even once we are mobilized in such a most dramatic movement? Well, you say, "Wait a minute, I have to go to college, and finish my four years." Or, "Wait a minute, I first want to become a Ph.D." Is that your answer? (No.)

Yes, this is the goal, no matter how great a sacrifice and cost it may be, this is where we are going. If somebody pulls your arm or even cuts your arm, you will still go-this is that kind of goal. Even if the whole nation goes against you, then you will kick the nation and still go on. This kind of preciousness, this kind of goal, this kind of purpose, and this kind of value is a competition you have never seen in all human history.

Your two eyes cannot be divided in seeing. You have no time to look around to the left or right. You know it has to be straight all the way. But, you have been wandering around, taking a rest here and there, just wandering all over the place. You are going but surely you will know what I mean by saying that this is such a goal. Single-mindedly you must go by your whole heart, mind, and soul; we must go the shortest possible cut, no beating around the bush. A jumbo jet would be no problem; you could even hire a rocket. That is the kind of goal -- don't you agree? And do you really feel like it? You say yes, but do you really feel like it? Does that come out of your mouth, or come out of your heart? (Heart.) Then that's all; that's all we need.

Let's say we are really going wholeheartedly in that direction, but unfortunately, I die on the way. I couldn't get to the goal. But your life will not falter. Your life was not ended. You shall become the champion and really the flag bearer for that cause. You shall make history. Such a family dedicated toward that goal shall set the tradition of the heavenly kingdom. Those tribes, those nations, and those peoples shall remain the flag-bearers of the nation of love and become the tradition of love. Don't you think this is the kind of cause we should follow, even unto death? As a man, you could not find any better cause to give your life to or invest your life in.

There are all kinds of philosophies and theories. This philosophy ends and this theory will end. But this is not a philosophy; this is a way of life, and the one way of life God approves. If somebody asked me, "Reverend Moon, what are you heading for?" then I will undoubtedly say clearly, "This is my goal, for which I give my life and my death." It is a very dramatic, romantic life.

Now, once again, why are we here? (For love.) Fine, but the word is easier than the deed. That love can be made very cheap, or it can be made so precious as you can. There is a depth of understanding in this one word: "l-o-v-e. " God, in order to achieve that goal, has spared nothing. He already gave such a great sacrifice in order to achieve that goal. Even today God is giving up the entire achievement of Christianity as a sacrifice, just to reach that goal. Jesus Christ was given as a sacrifice for no other purpose than to achieve that one goal.

So ultimately, we come to this task under a great responsibility. We shall become that man of perfection or that woman of perfection, to be able to receive that love of God, because God's love begins from you. And how, without being fulfilled, without being perfected, can you become that channel of God? We live in so many adverse situations. We must ward them off and create our own environment in which we can really succeed in this goal. Therefore, this is not just a mediocre job; this is not an easy job. Yes, you have to risk your life.

Let's create heavenly forces, so that no ungodly power can infiltrate, and so we can truly enjoy and love God, as God loves us. Let's create this kind of society, starting from the very beginning point from one man and one woman, one family, one tribe, and one nation. We can expand our kingdom from the very beginning point gradually and slowly, but surely into the whole world.

For that purpose, God created the chosen people of Israel. The people of Israel were such a people and such a nation that God would ward off all ungodly power of the outside, creating a protective wall and barrier for them. Thus, this one nation and one people that God had chosen, really prepared themselves to fulfill His ultimate goal. Today, Christianity is in the same position.

The Messiah is coming as the model, formula, and pattern, from the very beginning point of the individual, to the family, the tribe, and the nation. He is slowly but surely expanding this model into the world. That is the purpose of the Messiah. So we, the Unification Church, have that central goal and purpose, which is so precious that the rest of the religious society and regular world would not even dream of it. We have something unique; we have something very new, very special.

So to make a long story short, we are looking for true parents. This is a new word, a new terminology. You couldn't find such a terminology in any other church or religious group. This is our terminology alone, because we are based on a new, very special purpose and mission here. "True Parents" means God-centered parents. We have this startling thing.

Then what comes next after True Parents? True sons and daughters, children of God. Then what else? True brotherhood among sisters and brothers. This word family takes on a new meaning in the Unification Church. When we say "family", it represents something else in our church. The family is the cornerstone of the kingdom. The assemblage of the family created a heavenly society; the cornerstone of the one family is so important. Then, as I said, God's love is expanded, after the family, to the tribe; and after the tribe to the people. Then eventually God is seeking one nation - There could not be a multitude of nations in the sight of God. He can think of only one nation under Him. Inheriting God's kingdom can be only done by those in God's nation. This is so logical; God cannot think of any other nation to give His inheritance to. Only God's nation can inherit the love of God.

We have so many different nationalities in this room. The nation of America is very symbolic of the heavenly kingdom (I am talking about it only in the external way.) God prepared this one nation of America to be known as "melting pot." All the different nationalities from all over the world came and are becoming one homogeneous, unifying nation. God blessed that nation. It is very significant.

Then what is our purpose? To become true men We will create the true husband and wife, and become true parents to give birth to children who experience love among themselves and form a loving brotherhood. And those children and parents together create one heavenly family. That family will expand into a true society; that true society will expand into a true nation. So I'm sure now your thinking is all well organized and lined up.

Where, then, does the love of God start? As I said, the love of God starts from an individual, from one person, and then one man and woman. But again, though God begins His work from the individual level, yet His ultimate goal is the entire world. If the world of Christianity today united with the coming Messiah, then the process of forming the kingdom of heaven will be quick, because the Messiah will show that pattern of individual perfection, family perfection, tribal perfection, and national perfection so quickly, so that the rest of the world can be reached and restored very quickly.

After all, the Christians of the world are the prepared tool, the instrument of God to be used by the Messiah. That was God's purpose. So we participate in the cause of God, giving ourselves as an investment of the ultimate kingdom of heaven on a worldwide scale. So God is now erecting that kingdom. The more you invest of yourself for His work, the more you shall be remembered, because it is most natural. You participated; your deeds are greater than any body else in that kingdom.

So God is looking down; He has launched His crusade and is looking for the champion, the one who is giving more, participating more, the one who has the larger stock, not only as an individual, but also demonstrating he can give his family, his entire resources. This is what God can remember. God is looking for such an individual, such a family, such a tribe, and such a nation, to wholeheartedly give itself for the ultimate fulfillment of God's world restoration; then God cannot forget that person.

I am sure many people come from different nations of the world. If I asked you, "What kind of country would you like to have your country become?", you will say, "I want to have my country to be that champion nation in the sight of God, to be remembered as having most stock in the kingdom of heaven." Then that means you have to sacrifice. There is no other way to purchase stock in the kingdom of heaven. You have to give yourself; your nation and your people shall have to give more sacrifices to achieve that ultimate goal.

You are all most brilliant youth. In your pride, what kind of country would you like to make? What kind of nation would you like to make your nation? I know you would like to have your own country be unexcelled by others. Now, therefore, this is the time when even on the national level, all the nations are in competition -- a heavenly race. This is the time when you can really be closer to the bosom of God.

America is that battle ground, that testing ground. This is the race track right here in America. America is a United States; literally, it is a "united states. " All the fifty states are united into one federal state; without the backbone of the Christian spirit, this goal would have never been possible, because the Christian ideology alone can go beyond the color of nations, the color of skin, and the different ideologies.

So America, was truly founded on a sort of universal scale. It's not particularly directed toward one race or one people but for all races and all people. They truly set the motto, "One nation under God." So America is the harbinger or forerunner of that ultimate shape of the kingdom of heaven. This is why God put so much energy into this country. This is why God blessed America. All the property, assets, riches, and resources of this nation are for the purpose of the building of the ultimate kingdom of God.

The American people, consciously or unconsciously, knew such a mission. They even put the words, "In God We Trust," on every dollar bill. By this they said, "This money does not belong to ourselves. However, today's America is not in a position to inherit that ultimate kingdom. America is running away from God's dispensation, from God's will. And I hear that American youth love adventure. Is that true? What kind of adventure? Do they love a righteous adventure, the bold courage for righteousness, for the cause of God. Then that is respected not only by the American nation, but by the rest of the world.

If there are any adventurous young people who can truly rally around the righteousness of God, even God will praise them. Let's suppose that in America there is one house. In light of the overall analogy, it is like a house in flames. So we need a fire fighter. Among the old people and young people, who shall become the fire fighter? Of course, the young people. But are there such young people in this country? Most young people negate responsibility. They don't want to get involved in anything-they want more degradation and more ungodly movements. America is watching the emergence of such people and such movements, while the world is looking desperately for such champions. Without them, this fire will bum too fast. This one house of the nation shall be burned down to the ground. This is the time when American youth, who have been traditionally known to love the adventure, must prove themselves. This is the critical time in which we live, when these young champions must be born and assembled. Where can I find such young people? Shall I go to existing churches? To the colleges? American colleges don't have such people. I saw the practice of streaking. They are just laughing and enjoying their way of life that way. Do you think that's the end of it? Will those involved in movements such as free sex find ultimate satisfaction for their goal of life? No, this is farther from the truth. You are the fire fighters. You are the youth that can turn this world upside down and right side up.

So we must have a specific course and plan of action. If you start, pushing, you move quickly. For how long?-until the end. There is no stop before the end. Even if you falter; even if you die in between, you are not really dying. You are really living for eternity. At any cost, we must win. This is the kind of cause you have gotten involved in.

I, as you know, am not an American citizen. So why does the Reverend Moon have to come to America, to speak to you this way? Why do I have to leave my country of Korea behind? I am not treated so kindly, there are many unkind remarks. In Korea there are so many people and so many resources within men's hearts and souls. Really, there is a burning zeal, and a sacrificial spirit living there.

But I received a mandate from God that we must save America in order to save Korea, and the rest of the world. This is the one universal religion. Christianity is not talking about one people or nation, but about the world; and the hub of the world is here in America. That's why I am here. So, even though you have come from all the different countries and love them as much as I love my own country of Korea, you must love this country of America. This is where the heart of God lies today.

I went through great difficulty and many tribulations in Korea, and now I'm going through more difficulty here in America. You must be my comrades in arms. If you are truly adventurous men and women, then this is the time to prove it. We hive gotten together for one cause that is greater than ourselves. We can truly give ourselves and invest our entire being into this movement. We will become invincible forces. Nothing shall stop us. I know all of you came here, looking forward to seeing me. But in an ultimate sense, you did not come to meet me. You came to inherit God's kingdom. God's salvation is for the world. Therefore, God said, "Go. " You are now given the mandate to reach out for that goal; reach out for it for God.

Now then, where shall we turn? Let's turn to America. This is where God's heart, concern, and love lie. So let's become God's representatives here in this country. Let's go out, go forward to restore this nation back to God. And September 18,1974, shall be the culmination point in the showdown, the heavenly battle here in New York. This is the plan of action; we have this precise plan; and this is where the adventuresome young people, men and women, shall prove themselves worthy of the title: adventurous men and women for the righteousness of God.

American young men and women, raise your hands, please. So we met here-in a way, a coincidence. We met here, but this is not our destination. On the way to the Madison Square Garden and on the way to America we met here. So shall we come here and meet for a celebration'? Is this the place where we must sit down and relax? Already it is nearly nine o'clock, but you must not think the precious hours this morning were sort of wasted. I don't think you think that way.

I am sure before you came here this morning to hear me you thought, "Well, I know what he will say -He will say, 'Go out to the streets and work harder.' I know what he is going to say. " Do you like to hear me, or don't you want to hear me 9. We are going beyond America and all the way to God. This is really a fantastic, golden opportunity. You will never see such a great, exciting life anywhere else in the world. This is really a wonderful place. Since you are summoned to be the pioneers for the kingdom of God, let's say you are the ultimate fulfillment of the perfection of the individual, family, tribe, nation, and everything. Do not worry. Your reward, your glory in heaven shall. be greater than anybody else, because you are the pioneers.

I know you have your personal difficulties. Your immediate family, your brothers and your parents, may not approve of your doing this. But think of it; look at the future. Some day history will record what you have done today. Your action today is the page of history of tomorrow. Future posterity will know you -If you die, your tomb shall be the monument of God. Then let God make that tomb shine throughout history. And 1, myself, am Just precisely moving and directing this movement with that particular determination. I really gave up my life for that purpose. I may die; I my falter; but I want to live with an undying spirit, an undying determination, for the undying cause of posterity. I want to be remembered in your hearts; nothing can extinguish this fire of love. I want to bring this movement regardless of whether I am here or not, toward the ultimate day of fulfillment, the victorious day of God.

Go out; fear nothing; be more controversial; make more problems; make more things happen. Then with each of those happenings, God will bring more victory, more reward to you. We are moving toward the stage of America. Who is holding the handle? Who is turning the steering wheel? America's steering wheel must not be in the hand of Satan, because Satan will lead it to hell. But America's handle or steering wheel must be in the hand of God. And that handle or steering wheel of America is right here in New York. Right now, this handle is in the hands of Satan. We are the ones to chop off Satan's hands and bring the steering wheel back to God. So this is why we set our spiritual revolution, or fire revolution, right here in the city of New York. Would you like to turn the steering wheel to the fight? Yes, that's the job to do.

America was victorious in World War I and World War 11, and America has to do so much good for the rest of the world. But right now that very America is aflame. America did not recognize the most fierce battle, more fierce than World War 1, World War 11, now being waged right in the heart of America. We are summoned from all over the world to win that battle right here in America, the severest battle that history can think of. This is where we are summoned. So shall we bring victory or failure at Madison Square Garden? (Victory.) Let's do it!

America has enjoyed 200 years of history. You are now approaching the bicentennial in 1976. This is the crisis of America. This shall be the line and the moment of history in which we can determine whether or not America remains for God or for Satan. But who can make the showdown a victorious one? We must become one, become united, as the prime force which will turn the handle of America to God. The greater the battle you are engaged in, the severest battle to which you are summoned, the greater the chapter of history you are writing. So do not ask for an easy job. Ask for the severest battle.

Those who are determined to give yourselves for the victory of God and victory of New York-no matter what happens to you, whether the entire world comes against you-and still have that determination to go, raise your hands. Then let's set the record. Let's really set the record-not just the world record, but the heavenly record.

Once you have participated in this race, do not do a mediocre job. We will truly conquer New York in the name of God. Your eyes and your senses, your arms and your whole self, every tissue of your whole body-shall be directed toward one single-minded purpose. This is the one cause. Once you give your total self nothing can stop you, literally, nothing can stop those who are determined to go unto our life and death.

I have instructed all the national level movements not to come to New York, because in New York this battle of Madison Square Garden is a test case. I want to have all the American youth participate in this test battle. Would you like to exceed my expectations? (Yes.) I trust you.

I want you to be a courageous champion, not a courageous soldier, but a courageous general, who can inherit the tradition of America, who can really harvest the true fruit of America and truly set the new tradition for the future. Your history shall be written along with my own history. Whoever writes my history will treat the handling of America's campaign as the greatest chapter. This is the focal point of the emphasis of my life, because even in Korea I never appeared in public to speak to the public; I have never done it. Therefore, what I have done here in America shall be the major portion of my history, and New York shall be the prime chapter of that particular chapter.

If somebody becomes a sacrifice during this campaign, he shall be the first and most glorious martyr for our movement and for heaven. In the history of the Unification Church, the history of God's restoration, that person shall remain as the true champion and hero. So set your own record. Set your record straight. This now is something like Jesus Christ, who would have gone to Rome and declared his kingdom as the Roman Empire. This in the 20th century is very similar. And the center of the Roman Empire today is New York. You are in the very position of the apostles and disciples of Jesus, who marched towards Rome bare-handed. They looked miserable, yet they carried on with a strong determination, an undeviating spirit and an undying spirit.

So do not think you are just doing this for the New York campaign. This is not the New York campaign. What you are doing is a universal campaign, because New York is where we are making a showdown on the universal level. You are chosen as a flag-bearer of this particular movement. What you do here in New York will determine not only your own life, but will determine the blessing of your posterity, your children, your great-great-grandchildren, and your own people and nation. Set the record. Lead the world record.

So my title, or my message today is "Let's set the record. " Those who truly want to set the heavenly record, let's once again raise both hands in determination.

New York, as you know, is the beginning point of our 1974 eight-city tour. After New York, we go on to Philadelphia and the remaining seven cities. Since we are concentrating in New York, Philadelphia did not have much chance to prepare. So I have assigned them a special task force.

Let Us Turn This Historical Moment Into Great Victory

Today is holy Sunday morning. We gather together for service. But as you see, that ground is wet and the surroundings are not that comfortable. But indeed, when I think of the rainy weather yesterday, we must feel this morning is a blessing. It's a beautiful morning, even with some last-minute moonlight up in the sky.

My topic this morning is to defend the one historical moment. You are living a most important part of your life, the age of 20 to 30. Life, starting from birth: childhood comes, then adolescence and young adulthood, finally adulthood and old age. This is the sequence of life. But all stages are continuations of one life. Each period is a segment of an important part of your life. By the same token, the work of God or the history of restoration is something like the life of one man. It consists of different parts, of segments. However, all these segments are joined into oneness. Therefore we have the Old Testament era, and that was succeeded by the New Testament era. Now we are living in a new era, the Completed Testament. History has three parts: past, present, and future. But each segment is very important, because it is fulfilling a vital role for that particular age in order to move into the future.

Therefore, when we consider the Old Testament era, there was a specific role for that particular period. That must be fulfilled during that era, and therefore that age has its character. The New Testament era also centers around one dramatic moment of fulfillment, one important point of movement-and the fulfillment is the center of the New Testament era.

And the Unification Church Movement is not any exception. We do have our dramatic moment of fulfillment. When I speak of American history, this is another case, without exception. American history is running a certain course, and during this course of history there is a certain moment of fulfillment. And no nation in the world is an exception. Their histories also run the course, and their course has certain moments of vital fulfillment, and upon that particular moment is hinged the life or death of that particular nation. History is something like a geographical terrain. There is rugged terrain, and in some places we have a plains area, then we have rugged mountains, then we have a valley. History runs a similar pattern. Certain persons like the plains area, certain people like rugged mountains, and certain people like the valley. Each person in a different part of history is destined to fulfill a different and specific mission. Certain persons run around the plains, another person is running around the valley and another is suited to the mountains.

All history, whether that of the individual, the nation, the society, or the world, including the history of God, is taking the same pattern, the same formula. But all of history has a goal, and the goal of history doesn't exist on the plain ground, but on the top of the mountain. Therefore all people who desire to achieve this goal have to run up the hill. So when you climb up toward the hill, it is different from your movement in the plain ground. You need an additional kick, additional power to climb up a mountain. Those who are wandering in the valley have to find a new direction to reach that goal on the top of the mountain.

Then when we look upon the present situation of the history of the world, we must come to understand what the timetable is and in what time of God's providence we are living today. We must know first that history, this particular period of world history, is not running on the plain field. Then is that history running up toward the top of the mountains? No, not quite that far. No, world history is now running down the hill toward the valley.

Then how deep is that valley? How far down will we go? Nobody knows. When history is going down to the valley, then how far they will go nobody knows.

Since 1960, in the last 15 years, history has been really rapidly falling down into the valley. First of all, one sin of that crumbling history is that religion, particularly Christianity, which has been enjoying a golden age of civilization, is now crumbling and the decline of the church is very obvious. Christianity has climbed the hill for the last 2,000 years. However, in the most recent 15 years Christianity is really sad, crumbling down into the valley. Under adverse conditions and under the persecution of the Roman Empire, Christians were really climbing up high in pride, in the spirit of sacrifice. Today, the Christianity of the world is enjoying more freedom than at any other time in history. However, Christianity itself is crumbling. Why?

Also, the last 15 years, decline is obvious in the case of democracy. Communism is not an exception, either. Communism also has had many troubles in the last 15 years. Then what is the difference between democracy and Communism and all the other ways of life of the world? Today we are living in a time of confusion. It is very difficult to distinguish right from wrong. Every day we witness more darkness coming into the lives of people, and we are truly living in a chaotic, age. We do know that this world is in trouble. The world is crumbling down into the valley. Can any individual stop the crumbling world today? Does the great nation of America have the power to turn back world history? Can Communism, that formidable power, do that? No, they are not capable. Even Communism is in trouble. They have within themselves so much division, more than they can bear. Today we must sense the time of history.

Then let us ask, is that the will of God, to see our world crumble and civilization decline and all the people in despair? Is that the will of God? The answer is no. Therefore, there must be some supernatural power that will either stop the course of history or turn around, or set it moving toward another goal. Then there must be somebody who will become the instrument of God. No movement will be successful that originates or centers upon man. Man is incapable of doing anything with this world, and only the power of God is our hope. So the answer, the solution, must come from heaven. That is the only solution in which we can have hope. God alone can stop this world and turn it back. So God must bring down to this world a huge crane to pull the world into opposite directions. And God must also push the pedal or the brake to stop this running car. And who shall become that brake? Who shall become that cable of God's crane? That has to be man. Man must take up that role. God Himself has no arms, no legs. He must employ his arm in man. God is running human history. Therefore the central axis is man and woman. Therefore, God would use them as instruments.

So God must be seeking his instruments either by nation, by individual, by movement or by organization. And God's instruments have to be religious organizations or religious movements. They will be different from the crumbling Christianity. They will come up with a new philosophy or ideology that is different from the crumbling democracy, that shall overcome the Communist ideology, because it has to be stronger than Communism. And there will be in that group the strongest conviction in history, compared to any other religion that has existed in history. And so that that formidable conviction can serve as the brake of God and stop the crumbling world. In other words, the power of this particular movement will be stronger than the rest of the world. Otherwise that power cannot stop the world. And who will do that?

I tell you this morning, you are summoned. You are the champions. You are called for that job. Our goal is unification. Unification cannot be done without having this tremendous conviction in God and in humanity. Are you ready to become the crane cable and brake for this running and crumbling automobile? (Yes!)

Then there is hope, for the first time this world can recognize some hope for the future. That is truly the only beacon for mankind. This is a very fast moving and really dynamic movement. Then there is always some confusion, there is always some reaction to that. In New York the last several weeks you have been engaged in battle. In a way this is a heavenly spiritual battle. A spiritual tug of war is going on in New York. Our weapon is not firearms, not rifles, but we have weapons of truth and the spirit of God. And when you are the brake to stop this crumbling world, then you have a certain resistance or a certain contact. You must make contact. When your crane, your heavenly crane, is cranked up, then you determine whether things are lifted up or lose power and momentum, are falling down. And if we push all New York away, then there must be a rebirth, a new New York.

Thank you. New York has been cranked up and God is turning the crank handle. You have been the cable, and New York is the weight that has been lifted up. Are you in that role, in that mission, in that position? (Yes)

This is truly the heavenly battle in a test case. This heavenly force can move New York. Then certainly we can move America. We can move the rest of the world. If we can plant this hope for New York, then we surely can plant hope in America and hope for the world. So we are at the truly crucial moment of the history of the world and the history of God. Then shall we be joining the crumbling forces of the world, or shall we be bringing the world back into the other direction? (Back.) Up or down? (Up.)

I know from the men and women, all who are young, the answer is the same: we must go up.

Anybody in this universe who does not desire success, who does not desire great accomplishment, there's no such person. There's no one who wants to decline, who wants to be destroyed. Not a single one. Throughout history everyone has desired success, climbing up to the top. Yet very few achieve that goal. It is not enough only to desire success; we must win that success. Then in order to win that victory we must be different from ordinary people. When you go up there is some exertion, some attrition of energy. So we must preserve enough energy to climb all the way up. Also we must invest not only energy but time. Energy and time are not the only investments. We must invest our soul. So you must realize today we are living the most critical, the most historical and vital moment of our lives, of the history of this nation, of this history of the world. Energy, time, and your heart and soul. This is what we need to invest.

This is not my own personal idea. No, this is the one mandate coming from heaven. What we accomplish today will remain an important part of the history of the world.

Between the persons who are victorious and those who are defeated, there we have a million miles of death. Once we are defeated then no excuse will work, no rationalization will be justified. That misery could not be compared with any other sadness. So all of our power must be mobilized before the showdown so that we can win the victory, because once our result turns out to be defeat, then it will be too late. Instead of being defeated, then destroyed in misery, it would rather be wise of us to commit our lives before the showdown, before the investment toward victory.

It can be compared to one big boxing match. You know, at Madison Square Garden, sometimes they have world championship fights. Cassius Clay, for example, and Floyd Patterson, were matched for the world championship. Though they both really fought to their utmost degree, one had to be defeated. No matter how good a fight you put up, if you cannot reach the final victory, then no matter what good work you have invested, that will go down the drain. No matter how miserable your fight might be, if the end result is victory, then all the suffering and miseries, all the shame and anything else you went through, that will be rewarded. So it is a matter of becoming the heavenly Cassius Clay or following the heavenly pattern,

I know you will be winners not defeated. In order for Patterson to win, he had to do more, make more extraordinary efforts than Cassius Clay.

Can you do it? (Yes)

What would you do if the entire city of New York now stood up and came against you? They kick you and they throw you into the ditch, really do all kinds of unkind things to you. Then what would you do? Would you retreat? (No) Since we have conviction, we do this for the name of God and for the hope of America. We have nothing to be ashamed of. We must go forward.

When you suffer, particularly when you are treated unkindly by people, you must remember Heavenly Father is looking down upon you. He is your guarantee, your guarantor. God could not find young people like you anywhere who can truly go forward single mindedly only for the purpose of God. God needs you. Yes, you left your home, left your family, and sacrificed your personal interest, sacrificed your own glory, and even went beyond the interest of your own nation. We are here for the interest of God and His kingdom. We did not come to earn our daily food. We did not come to work to just earn our clothes. We are not working only for the honor of America. We are here to commit our life and our soul and heart to win America. By doing so we can truly bring God's kingdom here on earth.

Yes, we have been somewhat unkindly treated by this nation. We have many things to say. I myself, Reverend Moon, have been mistreated by all kinds of people, in all kinds of ways, and in sometimes unbearable ways. My own country persecuted me. Asia persecuted me. But I never retreat, and I know God is on our side. The worst situations have come to me. But that even spurred me on to have even greater courage and commitment. It's getting to be even a pleasure to go against opposition and still win the victory for Father. I always felt I was walking out like a prisoner to be executed. That kind of spirit, that feeling, prevails in my life.

So without even a moment's relaxation, each moment I faced a spiritual battle, and I won-I won and won again. That has been the succession of victories of my life. And I always felt as though I were the only one that God depended on at this particular moment, that He depended upon me and my role, that my fulfillment was so vital for His own fulfillment. If we cannot keep and win this moment of history, then the Unification Church will be washed away in the future. The challenge is greater, and greater, therefore our determination must be to parallel that challenge.

One time I was out on the boat on the Hudson River. I saw a big fish, a huge, giant dead fish helplessly floating down into the sea. Then I felt how miserable the destiny of that particular fish was, even though it was a giant fish. We must not become just fish in our life. That huge fish, if he were alive in the Hudson, you know, the tide would be no problem. That particular fish would be swimming all the way up the Hudson River, as far as he wished. Even little fish barely spawned can swim against the tide, against the flow of the water.

Jesus Christ gave a truly historical mandate to his disciple, Peter, "You shall become fishermen of men. " And Jesus Christ compared humanity to fish. Do you think he wanted to catch only the dead fish, helpless and floating away? Actually, Jesus is saying even those dead fish have to be given life. So in order to give, you have to become a fisherman of man and give life-resurrection-to dead men. You shall become another dead fish to give life to the fish. In order to have dead fish resurrected, live again, you have to share your life force with that dead fish, so you have to become powerful. Then you must revive the life of the dead fish. That fish will be another comrade and go the other direction, the direction of life.

So let us all compare ourselves; we are fish. So there are many fish in this world that need to be touched by you, because they're either helpless or dead. So we have to revive those helpless and dead fish. We must give them a revival of life; then instead of dying, we shall prosper together with them. Together.

For that purpose we must have great energy, not just your own; but really what we need is super, super energy. So in the morning you're really energetic fish, but you must be energetic fish at noon and energetic fish in the evening, too.

Many people have been thinking, "Well, we're going to New York. " You've been very excited, and that excitement vanished away within two days or three days. Ten days. How many days? Two days? One week? Why is September the 18th so far away? The moment when September 18th finally comes to you, would you become really dull, you know, just helpless fish? Or would you want to be an energetic one? (Yes.) We must prove this in deed, not by words. If you become that kind of man, that kind of champion of God, do you know what? You are the hope of America, the only hope of America, and the only champion that God can count on. Then you'll become victorious, and do you think Heavenly Father will say, "Well, you have won this victory, then you go ahead and relax and have a vacation"? I want you to know this is just a beginning, the beginning of our heavenly battle. So we have three choices: either we march forward or we stand still or we retreat. Is it true? Which do you choose? (Forward.) Well, you are really greedy young people. I commend your greed, even this greed, because it's unselfish greed, and that will create Father's ideal on earth. That will bring the new history.

What shall we do next year? We cannot stop. We must march forward, to a much greater battle. If you are alive, you must continue to march forward. Those who are alive must grow each year. The Unification Church, whether it is dead or alive, we can prove that only one way, by growth. That is really the honest truth. So, I want you to have a reserve of energy knowing this is merely the preparation for the greater year of 1975. When you have a future, new hope, new plan of action, you can never become a man of despair. Maybe your weight is going down. Your face may become pale. But your eyes are shining like a light bulb. You may not wear the best clothes in New York, but your manner of walking or dealing with people, your facial expression will represent God's. Each step you take in New York must have meaning, meaning not for yourself but for Father. This is the decisive step you are taking for Father. You are not just passing by. You are determined to really make a showdown right there. So in this respect, who are truly the hosts and hostesses of New York? The millionaires of New York? No. Those who can control the soul of New York, those who can make hope for the new future of New York, those are the masters of New York-those who love New York most.

So are you becoming the soul of New York? (Yes.) Are you becoming the hope of New York? (Yes.) Yes, indeed, you are the hope of New York. You are the soul of this great city. Yes, the Empire State Building looks quite small, doesn't it? Lincoln Center is nothing in the standard now dreamed. Yes, you are the hope of New York; the future that we are putting into New York is going to be truly a glorious one, nothing that the physical appearance of New York today can represent.

I know each one of you hopes that day of dreams is realized. So then this moment, this critical moment is important. You must catch this opportunity. Yes, you are putting a stake in the ground. Then put your stake firmly in, anchored in the ground. Do not let other people touch your stake. This is the time. God has been waiting for so long to see His people do His job here in the city of New York. And this moment, this hour, therefore is important and critical. And this is very important for the Unification Church.

This morning we must renew our commitment to create a new beginning for the ultimate victory in New York, by putting out our utmost energy, time, and heart and soul. And we are not just ordinary Christians. We are a different breed, a different kind of people. We are different from the ordinary citizens of the free world. We are even far different and far stronger than those who are believing in the ideology of Communism. We deserve God's praise. God must feel joy and satisfaction in you. Let us defend the historical moment and bring this moment into glorious victory, and so that we shall truly make our endeavor in New York a historical one and a proud one in the history of America and the history of God.

Yes, what we are dealing with here is tremendous, extraordinary, but to lead into that great success the very core principle is rather simple. There are many beautiful young ladies and young men. You are meeting every day probably, possible future husbands and future wives in the city of New York. Who knows? The young man you talked to today may become a great leader of America in the future, such as a future President of the United States. You never know what kind of people you will meet today. You never know what kind of potential they have. Furthermore, these people you meet may be lifeless, hopeless today, but because of you they will be resurrected and given new hope, and will become great leaders of this world and of this nation. That's the point. So do not look just at the appearance of the people you meet today. Do not disregard anyone because his appearance is poor, he looks so hungry or looks very, very miserable. Do not treat anyone evil only because that person cannot speak English. Do not mistreat anyone because that person happens to be black. Each person is your showdown, your possible victorious moment; and toward each person you must be serious.

This morning we have special guests from CBS and you are working very hard at this early hour in the morning. But really, what's the significance of this day? Why has CBS come here to watch you work? Something is clicking. Something important is brewing. The world may not know now, but some day they will know. And you are making history. You are the chosen champions of God. We are the main actors and actresses for God's work. So somebody may spit at you, maybe someone will hit you, but you must smile at them and bless them. Be patient. Be patient and meek, love life, your entire life up to this hour. That is God's way.

Do you know, you are my pride? You young people gathered from all over the world who have come to me and are really listening. Every instruction I issue, just carry it out 1,000 percent. Each one has conviction and is trusting me, and anything I say, you're willing to fulfill. What an honor! What a joy! What a great privilege! Is it true? (Yes) Thank you.

Yes, maybe I'm not the tallest person, but I do have energy. Yes, a few years ago in Korea and Japan, they were very scornful to me and our movement. But today they're looking up to me and saying, "You are the hope of turning the tide in the situations of Korea and Japan. " The persons, those enemies who persecuted me to the worst degree, come to me today saying, "Reverend Moon, you are the hope of our nation, hope of this world. We wish you great success. " Is that because I am that important and I am that glorious? No. It is because the ideal, the person I represent, He is great. His time and hour has come, and representation of His mission, that makes us great.

I was in a labor camp, the worst labor camp you could think of. I was in a Communist prison, for many years in an unbearable situation, and I was in hunger. I was in poverty, but I had the same conviction that you have, and through all the difficult days of my life, I persevered and was patient. That brought today's glory. I forgot misery. I forgot my suffering. I forgot my difficulty because I was so busy comforting the Heavenly Father, knowing one day Father's will, His ideal, must prevail for the sake of the world. And as a result you are here today. I've been looking forward to that one moment of victory, that one crucial moment. Now it is your turn, today is your opportunity; your crucial moment has arrived. Whether you make use of this great moment in history, that will determine your life in victory or in failure.

No matter what the rest of the world says, I will go on for the sake of the Father. I am destined to live this according to His will. You just make up your mind firmly. Don't be shaken. That's the key to success.

Then in order to do that, become a public person. Do not harbor personal ambition. Let us be greedy for the ideal, for the sake of everybody; be unselfish, that's the key. Let us be humble, and let us be meek. We must not be boastful. We must be humble and meek in front of everyone. When you walk this path there are many times you come to a moment when it is very difficult to judge which way is the right one. Sometimes confusion prevails. Then what is the solution to finding the right way? In that particular moment of confusion be humble and have an unselfish mind. If from that point of view you look at the situation, then your course of action is very clear, obviously you put yourself on a horizontal level. Worry about your objective, not yourself, and pray to God.

If you become an unselfish person, then in this universe just like the great magnet of the north pole and south pole, there's a magnet of God. That greatest power of the universe will pull you when you make yourself unselfish. Then you'll be pulled by that magnet and will be directed into right direction. And the Bible says we must pray secretly. Why should we pray secretly? That's the moment when you put yourself in horizontal position and are very humble; then the power of God, the great magnet of the universe, will attract you toward the right direction. Think of it. In walking this far, from the first founding of our movement up to now, how much difficulty I have encountered. And there were many, many occasions where, if I had made one wrong choice, that one wrong decision would have wiped out our movement in no time. Knowing the seriousness of our movement, I also have been serious. I have been deadly serious in dealing with each critical decision. And I have a clear objective. There is no deviation from our goal. Therefore my prayer was serious. Therefore always the universal magnet, the force of God, attracted me into the right direction and the right decision.

So once again, now is your chance; your opportunity has arrived. You must depend on this historical moment and turn this moment into a glorious, victorious time for you, for this nation, for God. You are not just individuals, not just a single person. There are hundreds of thousands of people working together. Therefore the result is going to be phenomenal. I have received many letters. I have received numerous letters, hundreds and hundreds of letters from Korea, Japan and all of the world, and they are all saying they are praying day in and day out for the success and victory of Madison Square Garden. That's the target of their prayer. You are the front-line soldiers for that great victory. You will be responsible if we fail, if we cannot make Madison Square Garden successful. Then how can we reply to those people who prayed for this opportunity? What would you do with your hard work and blood and sweat, your long hours put into this effort? Think of your God who commanded you to go and win this battle. Therefore when I consider all this, bearing the cross to Calvary is rather easier than the task we face today. It's something like we are going through the dark tunnel toward the hope of dawn on the other side.

Yes, it is true that I want to have September 18th pass away as history, but we cannot welcome September 18th as just another day. We must make that day the day of light, day of glory. I'm determined to see this day victorious so that I can reward the prayers that are coming from overseas. I want to reward your hard work, and I want to glorify the name of Heavenly Father. I want to have everybody happy. Then I want to see you. Then I shall be happy.

So I am standing each moment most seriously, without any relaxation. So I want you to know leaders are truly the sacrifice of our movement. To be a leader is not a glorious position. The leader is the most suffering one.

This is the final segment of our glorious three years' battle started together in 1972. This is the finale of our movement for the three-year course. Now I want you to know, therefore, that this is to me very important; to you, so important; for Heavenly Father, so vital. And therefore this morning I deliver the message, "Let Us Depend On the Historical Moment and Turn It Into Great Victory, " and I urge you all to join with me for the assault to final victory.

Those who determine to give yourselves, pledge yourselves for victory for this cause of September 18th, let's raise both hands as a sign. Thank you.

The Person Who Worries About God's Nation

At this moment, even though God has in mind the ideal world, the ideal nation is not yet realized. Through our Principle we know that if we have a nation, the center of that nation should be God Himself. If His ideal is established on earth, he is the center of the world, and the nation and the realization of His ideal would be established here on earth. If this had been realized centering on Adam and Eve in the beginning, they would have had the ideal world on earth. Also if this had been realized at that time, the nation and the world would have fit His original ideal as He planned. Whatever is happening centering on this nation should be reflected directly to heaven and vice versa. All things happening in this nation on earth would belong to God and His ideal. Then by this time we would have had the one directional civilization, one culture. One culture would have appeared. The language pattern, cultural pattern would have been unified a long time ago if His ideal had been realized. The one goal of this ideal is to unite everything into one; the whole universe will be united into one, centering on God. The model would have been all the citizens of the kingdom always centering on God, everything in oneness, united into one. That pattern should have been realized.

There would be no division. If division happened-it would never happen in that situation it would be reflected directly to heaven and bring corruption, chaos, disaster, tragedy to heaven and God. All individuals, families, tribes, all nations would be centering on one direction, centering on the one God. Everything would bring unity. The foundation would be based on individual people. Division destroys God, destroys the nation, the world, the family, the tribe and the individual, so there cannot be division in the ideal world. The intensity or the degree of our unity, would be the barometer in this world, in the ideal setting. The unchanging, everlasting sovereignty of God would have been established if man hadn't fallen. God's nation would have been ruled and governed under the direction of God Himself. In that nation old traditions cannot exist. This kind of a nation or ideal world, resembles the human body. The brain controls the human body. Likewise, God controls the whole ideal world. If God is pleased, automatically the body or mankind, the children of God, will be pleased. If mankind is pleased, then automatically God will be pleased too.

In the solar system, the sun shines. Suns are centers around which everything operates; likewise in the ideal world, centering on God, everything would operate orderly and peacefully. If this ideal had appeared, we would have seen ideal individuals, ideal families, ideal tribes, nations and whole world; and you would have even seen how we are going to live together in the spirit world, in heaven. Even spirit world is separated from us now, but if this ideal world is realized, the physical world and the spirit world would be united in one. In this kind of united world, how can we imagine war? We could not even think of war. Only peace. There would be no confusion of languages. The language barrier is a great tragedy in this modern age. Because of the fall we have not seen the realization of the ideal kingdom of God on earth. Because of the fall, division started. And men are divided, mind and body are divided. Then Adam and Eve's sons, Cain and Abel, brought about the first murder in humankind. From there up to the present, division came into being.

When you look at the present world, the individual, family, tribe, nation, and world are divided into two, separated. Who is responsible for making this division? This is Satan. What is the origin of Satan? This person should have been loyal to God in the beginning. The existence of Satan brought all chaos in this universe, destroyed God's ideal, destroyed the heavenly family, nation, whole world. So God cannot forgive Satan. All the division, chaos, corruption, and all the tragedy we are facing on the individual, family, tribal, national, and worldwide levels has been caused by Satan, not the people on earth. Satan has taken away God's kingdom, God's sovereignty of goodness. He stole God's sovereignty. He's the enemy.

In world history, Satan has been the enemy of God because he has unmercifully destroyed God's children, His chosen people, servants, and providence, up to the present. Because this world belongs to Satan's kingdom, in order to restore this world to God, God chose the prophets and his saints and sages, and through them created all kinds of religions to attack Satan's system, sacrificing the valuable lives of His children. Satan is the one who destroyed the friend you would like to have, our heavenly friend. Satan is the one who destroyed the person you would like to love. Satan is the one. He destroyed the family and nation that God wanted to establish. The source of all this is the enemy. He is the one who destroyed God's ideal. As long as Satan's sovereignty exists, the war-heavenly war-between God and Satan will endure. In the Satanic world, even under the sovereignty of evil man, evil never gives up, even though time is running out. That is the nature of evil.

A world struggle between the old sovereignty and the new sovereignty shall occur. The war between Satan's and God's side is very, very serious because with God's children, God cannot use the same weapon or strategy that evil Satan uses. So He has to go the other way, use another method; He uses the power of love instead of weapons or physical attack. Why is this? Because God is a God of principle. God has to restore His people based on the love supposed to be existing before the fall, even after the fall; He has to restore this world on the basis of this principle of love. God's position is this: even in the fallen world He cannot use fallen methods. He must use principled love, in order to restore. That is His delicate position, His delicate position throughout history. That's why it will take us so long to restore God's children from the Satanic sovereignty. Speaking according to the Principle, even though God has suffered so much because of the existence of Satan, if you talk directly to God, asking how much He has suffered, He cannot tell you frankly, "I did suffer so much." He cannot tell you. Because Heavenly Father's heart is like that, Jesus Christ, son of God, followed this idea. Even on the cross he loved his enemy, because he had a feeling of heart, of love, from Heavenly Father. Even in a situation like that, God's children have to copy the feeling of the Heavenly Father. Even though God's children suffer so much, they cannot complain. They have to persevere in the experience because the Heavenly Father's feeling is just like that.

The fall took place from God's point of view involving those in direct relationship to the fallen act. The problem is in man, not God. Man is a created being who is able to control Satan, the spirit-being Satan. In every aspect, perfected man should be able to surpass the very essence of the angel or Satan.

If a person is qualified to exercise such control he is the man from God. If this man is perfected, he is able to receive the legal sovereignty from God to control Satan and this world. The man has already learned how to deal with, how to judge Satan. This is the man of God, the restored man, perfected man in the creation.

Satan must be the servant of mankind. If perfected man had controlled this hierarchy, the ideal world would have appeared. Man alone has the responsibility to control this universe, even control and rule the existence of Satan.

In one sense, from God's point of view, Satan is the one who destroyed God's ideal world. But since man is involved, he has to take responsibility too. God is a God of justice. If He chastises or punishes the criminals, He cannot only chastise Satan, but He also has to chastise man. Because of the heavy responsibility given to us because of the fall, we have to struggle and work hard until the nation of God is realized. Until that time we have to struggle very hard. Therefore, God's individual, God's family, God's tribe, God's nation should be surpassing Satan's system in this world. Let's take for example your individual faith. Satan is right there at the individual level to prevent you from coming to God. When you come to the family and national levels, all Satan's system is mobilized to attack you on the family level, attack you on the national level, on the world level, always. Always Satan's system is ready to totally attack you, to destroy you.

Since the fall, in the course of restoration, God's children have been on the defensive all the time, not attacking--defensive position. We have to imagine the Heavenly Father's heart looking down at mankind, His children. But man hasn't known the origin of evil, or even who the enemy is.

God has been leading us up to the present to bring this nation, this whole world back to His sovereignty. How sad our Heavenly Father is. When Satan looks at the world and sees family against family, individual against family, nations, and tribes fighting, he is very glad: He is very glad, while Heavenly Father is very sad to see this.

In order to get out of this situation, God's children-some of them in the mainstream of religion-should take this responsibility, alleviate this situation and eliminate the existing chaos and confusion of the evil sovereignty.

Religion is for God's side, to fulfill His will. Naturally the direction of religions and all faith movements should be narrowed down to be gradually united into one. This is a natural, logical conclusion. Religion from God in the time to come should be united into one, unification of religions. This kind of religion, new religion, must have surpassed the national boundary and the world boundary. Otherwise it cannot have this kind of important mission from God. The Unification Church, in unifying all religions, has a heavenly, universal mission to accomplish. We have to have a clear idea of God's original plan for the ideal nation on earth centering on Him. God's children should be for the whole world. God is seeking to unite the whole world under Him, the Father.

The new religion should go beyond politics, beyond the nation and the world. It should have the power to surpass other religions, nations and the whole world. It should have the power to transform cultures, politics, all kinds of civilization, all religions, even all kinds of evil power. Ultimately there will be no Asia, nor any Western civilization. There will be no satanic elements of bias and prejudice for all discrimination shall vanish in that system of religion. The only goal is to achieve one nation for God, and there will be only one sovereignty and one people in that kingdom. Centering on God, the eternal, permanent sovereignty of God's kingdom shall appear. Then God's children will receive commandments directly from God, and God's kingdom on earth and in heaven will continue forever. In that kingdom of God, the Communist system and the democratic system will no longer exist. Once this kingdom is established it will be an eternal kingdom, never changing. Everybody will envy this kind of a kingdom and will regret, "I was not a citizen of that kind of a kingdom. " We have to deplore the fact that we are not living in that kingdom. We have to regret that we don't have that kind of a nation at the moment. We have to regret, most of all, that we don't have a sovereignty of God in this nation.

Since the creation of man, human history has had one direction, God's direction. Many, many nations have risen and fallen, many people have died in wars-all these tragedies of human history have appeared. Why? They have been leading to the glorious day of God's sovereignty.

All the nations, all people who were sacrificed during the course of God's dispensation, are waiting for the time to come of God's sovereignty on earth. All that God has desired, all the things of God's eternal desire-one nation, one God, one people, one sovereignty-are our desire to accomplish also. Who will be responsible to realize this kind of a nation under God's sovereignty? Will God be responsible, or will mankind be responsible? Not God, but man should assume the heavenly responsibility to build God's kingdom. God cannot say anything because man has the authority and the power to rule Satan and the servants of man; so God cannot interfere. At this time, we can understand God's heart. Man should be responsible.

Now, the topic Father's talking about: who should worry about God's nation? Who are the persons responsible for God's nation? Not the dead. Not the onlookers or the fence-sitters, no. It is not necessarily those who have only knowledge of this dispensation. That's not enough, to know; also to see is not enough. When you have those two factors, then you have to start from there. You have to have heavenly indignation and be ready to fight. That kind of a person is the one who must worry about God's nation. But even people like this should repent. A twenty four hours effort is not enough for Father; they must be ready to fight and die for this cause. That kind of a person is the one to worry about God's nation.

To save the nation, to save the whole world, this person who worries about God's nation is the practitioner, the realizer, not the dreamer. The person of this category should not be able to stand seeing what's going on, even at the state and local level, the evil sovereignty. He is the person who stands out ready to fight. You have to fight.

You are working, fighting in the city of New York right now. New York City is one of the top cultural centers of the world. At the same time, one of the worst of Satan's dwellings is in the city of New York. We have to be indignant to see something evil going on, day and night in New York City. We have to be ready to fight. When you look at the immoral things going on, drinking, drug addicts-all this immorality going on-you have to be indignant. How are we going to save the people? How are we going to conquer evil? We have to work harder than they do. If they do this kind of thing twenty-four hours, we have to put in more hours to save them. When thieves are planning some kind of a robbery, they spend a certain amount of hours. We have to spend more hours than these evil men do to save this city, this nation.

The Communist underground and surface movement is working hard more than 24 hours. We have to surpass that Communist activity-with more zeal, more challenging spirit than the Communists. We have to be very, very serious persons more than the Devil is serious, more than the Devil's children are serious. Evil people are multiplying toward destruction, while you are going to serve them, reverse them, transfer them to salvation. When you cannot do that right now, transform the present situation, you have to be determined that next time you will bring victory over these evil forces.

This is the first time in human history that the Unification Church Family has attacked New York City to save this nation, to transform evil into good and save mankind and the whole world. This is the first time Unification Church members have existed since human history began. America is the leading nation based on the Judeo-Christian concept, but she is being diverted. We have the stamina. We will do more hard work to bring America to a higher level based on God's will and dispensation.

We are now nearly 1,000 Family members strong in New York City. This means that against the population of ten million people, we have 1,000-one to 10,000 ratio. One person fighting against 10,000 people. Common sense tells us it is impossible for one person to fight I 0,000 individuals; but it is only impossible in a worldly sense. It appears to be impossible, one to 10,000 people, but we have conviction and a deep faith that we shall even surpass this number.

Imagine what would happen if we mobilized half of the population of New York City. If we were able to mobilize half the population for this movement, to direct them according to our plan, the situation would change tremendously and would influence the whole world. The place for the final battle is well-chosen. In one sense we are the heavenly soldiers and we are going to attack Satan's headquarters right here. We have to build up greater ground for a sudden attack on headquarters. In the past we have gone through individual level, tribal level, family level, national level, this time reversely, making indemnity and restoration. We have to attack, in one sudden surprise, their headquarters. Fortunately many, many nationalities are living in New York City.

Two categories of people exist: those who will risk their lives for this cause, or will give up: either one of those two attitudes will come up. We can suppose that roughly half of the people think one way while the rest think the other way.

Then what is the criterion to be the persons who worry about God's nation? Number one, there will be no division among the Family. The person who belongs to this category will feel, "I will not be exhausted and give up because I have to fulfill this job. " The person will feel, "I will risk my life, I will even die for this cause." The person who worries about God's nation will think, "Until perfect restoration of this world, I will not be happy. I shall continue to fight to bring the victory. " That kind of a person can be labeled, "heavenly person who worries about God's nation." The person is the kind who says, I will be the person through whom you will see God's kingdom come. " You have to know what kind of people are qualified to be those who worry about God's nation.

We have to realize that Jesus Christ for 2,000 years has stood on this very ground, taking this very position. Jesus Christ saw his disciples but he saw differently. He had to see God's kingdom come through the disciples. Even though he taught the disciples many things, acted with them, he went further. He looked further. Even though Jesus Christ did work hard, he was discouraged when he looked at the vast difference between his situation and the realization of the ideal world. We have to understand the heart of Jesus Christ at that time when on the cross he had to look toward the future and even pitifully he had to say, "I will have to come again. " We have to sense his feeling and deep, deep pitiful heart. We have to come back to Jesus Christ on the cross. Even though temporarily failing, he had hope. We have to realize this heart and feeling.

If there is a Family member in the audience who has felt this crusade is too serious, too hard for him -if you have felt that way you have to repent. You have to repent of it immediately. Some may complain, "We pushed our best from 7:00 o'clock, but by 1 1:30, even 12:30, there had come no good result." If you think that way you are not qualified to be a heavenly soldier. You are not qualified to be the person to worry about God's nation. Even if you work hard 24 hours, sometimes nothing may be accomplished, nothing may be produced to be proud of. We know that. Even if you work hard in 24 hours, it is not the time or place for laughing or for being pleased. This is a suffering period. This is the road through which you are going to be happy. This is the road of destiny. That's why we have to suffer. We are not supposed to even think or rest here. The eternal resting place is coming. We are in the middle of the road going to the eternal resting place.

Suppose a king lost his land and that land was a world power. Another man had come and illegally taken over his kingdom and now the king looked at his people whom an enemy had taken over. The king would not only be sorrowful to look at his people, but even his direct family, for all are held hostage, in the prison of the enemy. We have to realize the king's feeling. Can that king sleep nights in safety? Can he even eat properly? Impossible. In this situation the people of the ex-king should do something about it. There will be hope if even one member of the imprisoned royal family, this king's wife, somebody thinks about this king's heart. We should realize this kind of a feeling applies to your present work in this campaign.

Satan is the evil source, killing God's children. Satan will be testing God's children to see if they will obey him, be loyal to him. This is the nature of Satan. He will ask the royal family, "Will you openly deny the royal family of your kingdom?" This is the nature of evil. If the royal family of the ex-king do this kind of thing, where can the people of the ex-kingdom go who are supposed to save the king? There would be no hope to recover this kingdom. This stolen nation will be restored only if the people of the kingdom are determined to never surrender. "We have hope, we'll continue to fight to restore our kingdom." This is important. Otherwise there is no hope.

If we ask God, "What is your desire? What is your wish?" Father in Heaven will say, "To make a nation and one people," one sovereignty centering on Him, realizing the ideal of His original creation. What is Jesus' desire? Same thing. What is the hope of Christianity? Same thing; the establishment of God's kingdom.

It is pitiful to see that no religion, not even Christianity, has a clear concept. Other religions never even approach this kind of a concept. This is the tragedy in the religious world. Only the Unification Church is presenting this idea, this concept, this principle. The Unification Church has been receiving persecutions from the established churches, from the religious leaders, from the political leaders. But we have been struggling and we'll continue to struggle. We are not going to attack them, but we'll give Principled love, so we will be marching on to restore even them to God. Instead of retaliating, challenging or avenging, we have been praying for them to turn to God through our divine love.

Religion in one sense is a pitiful institution. Religion cannot compete with evil, cannot fight back, cannot even take revenge on Satan's forces. That's a pitiful existence, because according to the Principle, religion represents God.

Even our Father is a person who feels indignation, but he perseveres. He has patience with divine love. He's not supposed to allow injustice, unrighteousness. He has to go by this Principle. Therefore, considering the kind of persecution he has received, if he adopted the satanic method, he would have destroyed everything; but he did not do that, because he has to lead the people to the nation of God. He is in the position of God, so even though he received all that mistreatment he has to have patience. He cannot challenge back. Even when he received persecution, he felt he should act as if it never happened. When he received persecution, he pretended not to, because Heavenly Father feels that same way.

Heavenly Father and heaven are very sorrowful, pitiful. You have to realize we look like we are defeating ourselves, but actually it is a glorious thing. Before your eyes you are seeing the realization of the kingdom. Your sweat, your work is building God's nation. Even though you have a hard time on the street, you meet opposition and persecution, you have to look forward, knowing that the realization of God's nation will come because of you. You will be glorified when the time comes. Satan's world sovereignty will vanish, but God's sovereignty will flourish forever. You have to look forward to that.

Once Father felt, "I am standing on the cliff on the end of the world." Once he felt, "I have no freedom, while Satan's kingdom has the most freedom." Satan's children are more prosperous, have more accumulated material blessing than our Father and his family. Even under persecution, when hardship was unavoidable, in unbearable situations, he looked forward to the future of God's kingdom. He had seen that reality, so he persevered. He overcame very beautifully. Father felt that even in the dungeon of the prison, he did not want to leave a bad tradition. He had to be far better than any other prisoner among God's children. He worried about that part. He never thought about himself. Quietly he shed his tears, for he felt this way: "I must not be inferior to any other of God's children who were in prison." Sometimes he was physically tortured by the Devil's children; he felt almost like cursing them, but he held his tongue. He had patience; he overcame it.

In that time Father said, "You, Heavenly Father, are pitiful, very sorrowful. I know because I have experienced this in myself. " Father felt that the Almighty God, even though He's able to avenge and destroy the enemy, has to have patience, because He has to go by the Principle of love. Father felt even the Heavenly Father must change His face when He looked at the miserable situation of our Father in prison. Even the Heavenly Father, though he is able to perform mighty works, has to have patience. This kind of attitude is the first requirement to be a person who worries about God's nation.

I imagine sometimes after hard work you might have a chance to look at your face, your body in front of a mirror. Maybe some of those beautiful girls might say, "Before coming to the Unification Church I looked very good, sometimes attracting many of the opposite sex but now since I am here I certainly find no physical improvement. I work harder and I look miserable." You might think that. There is even no time to comb your hair properly, no cosmetics allowed, and even no time to eat. You are eating on the run. "So what is going on?" you might think, comparing your old days before you came to the Unification Church. But there is a wonderful thing underlying there. Because physically you are undesirable, you seem to be miserable; but God is right there among you. That's the great value right there: God exists among you. God's looking for the man and woman of this description: you are intoxicated in your mission. You have one goal. You think you wear shoes, but you did not wear them because you had no time. This kind of mix-up happens, but the spirit of God is right there. People say you are crazy people, but to God's eve you are wonderful. Amen? (Yes.) You have to know the value, the heavenly value found there. Even if we die with pale faces, we have to die face to face with death, smiling a heavenly 'le of thanksgiving and appreciation. This will be the wonderful man and woman you are dying to become, you are suffering to become, because you are God's righteous nation. You are working to establish God's nation on earth, so you have to be proud of yourself.

You will be the heavenly patriots. That's your value. You are even in the position to command Moses, call him; you are even in a superior position to John the Baptist, all the disciples, or any other saints in the Bible history. You will be commanding them. You are far better than them. So you will be God's people, greater than the people who failed 2,000 years ago when Jesus appeared. You are the place where they will be educated and trained. So you are in the position to educate and train the Christians.

If there is God, just like Father said, then God must love the kind of people on earth who worry about His will and His nation to come.

It has been about ten days since the International One World Crusade Mobile Team worked in the city of New York. The month of August has vanished, and this is the first day of September. You must be curious about what is going to happen on September 18th. As the day goes by, you have to intensify your effort to bring the successful result. You have to realize that centering on the Madison Square Garden crusade His Will will be established, His Will will be done. All mankind will have hope because of that crusade. This will be the jumping off place through which God's dispensation will advance. You have to think of this very seriously. This is an unprecedented historical event in all of human history. God will be very glad to see that the youth of many nations, worked together in one direction, toward one goal, centering on His will, without any repercussions. You will work hard, and He will be very glad. Even though New York City is the city most full of evil, God will have hope because of you.

You have to keep in mind when brothers and sisters have arguments you have to repent right there before Satan's attack. We have to advance His one goal to bring the victory. We have to determine this morning to be heavenly patriots. You must be the person to worry about God's nation. The heavenly patriot is to risk his life for the nation. Even risking your lives, you are going to liberate the people of the nation. "Even though I die, I have to restore the kingdom so that the King can be enthroned again." The heavenly patriot has to sacrifice the individual, his family, even be ready to sacrifice the Unification Church to do God's will. That is the heavenly patriot who is worrying about God's nation.

This kind of person should be marching toward one goal, sacrificing everything if necessary. You have to be ready for this. When we are on the front line of the battle, we cannot stop. We cannot delay. We have to fight continuously. If the final war means more sacrifice, is more challenging, we should be more serious, because that will decide the victory.

This kind of a soldier will bring the victory. Those who disqualify themselves will bring the curse, will bring the destruction of God's dispensation.

You are physically concentrating on the Madison Square crusade while Father has his own position. Father is able to give the message of life to the audience. Whether the message Father is going to give suits you or not, Heavenly Father has been wanting to talk to the people. Then Father must prepare as all the past saints and sages in spirit world did who wanted to speak to the people. He must concentrate on the content. So he's thinking, how can I excite the people? It must be a more exciting more challenging message, than Heavenly Father and the saints could give if they were allowed to talk. In order to bring the ultimate success, he is depending upon you to fill up that auditorium.

If Father gave a message of life, even if in the spirit world billions of spirits were mobilized, if there is nobody in Madison Square Garden, what kind of a result would there be? Even if we prayed so hard, if there are only empty seats listening to Father, where will the prayer go? We cannot pray at all with that condition.

You have to know the daily report from the field, from New York. Father is seriously thinking, preparing his mind. Depending upon the reports, Father prays to God constantly. Do you understand so far what he is trying to tell you?

If we are all serious, the spirit world will be serious, everybody will be serious, our True Parents will be serious, you will be serious. Then all combined together we can easily pass over that difficulty. It's up to you. Then all the audience attending will be melted away with this kind of a power. It is not the problem of preparation of the message he is giving. It is the environmental factor, how to control their minds and spirit. So this will be successful when you concentrate on your endeavor. Your prayer, your activity will be amalgamated into one. Then it's possible.

Spiritually, mobile unit commanders and all mobile teams should realize that if we have success that's fine. If we fall, because this is an unprecedented historical event, we will be in great trouble in God's dispensation. You people should realize this fact. We have to bring the victory by all means. Even if you are driven just like slaves, we have to win the victory this time, by all means, at any cost, at any expense.

Then by accomplishing this thing, you international mobile unit teams are allowed to go back to your countries. You have to clearly understand that this is the crucial point, the junction of evil and good. You have to be serious, to march forward as heavenly patriots, the people who worry about God's nation at all costs, sacrificing everything, even our lives. By living in this way, we will liberate our Heavenly Father. We will liberate all mankind now under Satan. Then we will bring the realization of His original ideal, the kingdom on earth.

The time shall come when Satan will voluntarily surrender, to us. We have to bring about this thing; so you will be the historic people. Who will do this? You are the very persons who are able to do this. You are the only persons on earth, in the universe, in heaven and earth, who can do that. Even though the satanic world and you people are breathing the same air, eating the same food, and drinking the same water, you are entirely different categories of people. Others are Satan's children; you are God's children.

You have to keep these things in mind. You have to keep the heavenly dignity, because heaven and God are with you. Father wants you to be a heavenly patriot. You are the person to worry about God's nation. So you have to make up your mind this morning who is the heavenly patriot. If you determine to be the heavenly patriot, the person to worry about God's nation, raise your hand. Thank you.

You have to have heavenly pride in being trainees at Belvedere. In order to form a perfect personality, or become a perfect man, you've got to prepare many, many areas in yourself. You should consider the external area and the internal area. You have to be ready. You have to realize that the goal of Belvedere training is to form a really exemplary personality in every way.

In order to influence the environment and restore it, you have to have power superior to the ordinary environment. You are preparing that power from above. Individual ability is necessary to influence and control the external environment. Not only in the physical sense but in the spiritual sense, you have to be standing on higher ground, in a spiritual sense, than the world.

The criterion of a great leader is that he or she should possess some superior element. The goal of the individual is clear: he needs systematic action, the ability to analyze and observe the environment, and at same time, supervise and control that environment. That is a leader.

You should understand that training at Belvedere has a dual purpose. You will be a leader of the Unification Church International. At the same time, you will be arousing the world, wherever you go. As you probably know, wherever one goes is the world-wide level.

Take Christianity-they have their own world-wide level system. Democracy came from this Judeo-Christian foundation. Christianity now has a population of 700,000,000 around the globe. But, this planet has not only the Christian realm, but also the Communist realm, which we are going to overthrow! Communism is a world threat. Their teachings are not based on ethics and morality, and they use any method to reach their goal. They will seek their goal at any expense.

Now our Unification Church has come to synthesize and control these two systems through the Unification Thought, to reach a higher philosophy for the whole world. Since human history started, the Unification Church is the only one who even dares to consider or tries to unite both systems of thought.

In order to accomplish this kind of gigantic task, we should stand firm on the crystal-clear ideology, faith, and ideal. Success or failure will be determined by balance of power. If you are above balance, you will win. If you have less power, you will be defeated. We have a firm conviction that we will control even this Christendom, we will make it part of us. That kind of a condition is very important for you to realize this ideal of uniting Christendom. In the religious aspect, no organization can even compete with the International Unification Church. This spirit of never-changing, unyielding determination is very important. In our relationship to God and other religions, we have to convince ourselves that we are the most powerful, most excellent, and most efficient organization. Even our Holy Father God needs us very badly. God needs our power; man needs our power. Wherever you go, whatever you do, God shall trust you. That is the kind of leadership material you must be.

So even when you confront the Communists you should have the same determination: "Until I die, I will fight and bring the victory. " We are more powerful than the Communists. So we are able to have more dedication and more concentration than the Communists. This area you have to claim yourself. This is the kind of heavenly personality. You give the new direction for both ideologies, Communism and Democracy. That's our task. Both systems of thought cannot even dare to criticize us, but we are criticizing them both, even bringing the counterproposal.

We have the obligation to influence the most intellectual people in this world, because we can easily analyze and swallow both systems, giving them something superior to what they have. You should have heavenly pride that you were born in this blessed age and that you have a wonderful weapon to control even all this contemporary thought and ideology. When you develop such a perfect personality as a leader, that will please God, who needs one of you.

God knows very well that with the existing leaders and existing system, the world will not be united into one. So God wants to control all of world Christianity. But Christianity has no system of thought to influence contemporary man. The Communist ideology cannot control the whole world because it has no moral standard. Communism has a weak point in giving democracy equality of opportunity. Under the same circumstances, Communism has no power. If some existing philosophical thought cannot even control or influence the two other systems of thought unity would be impossible. Neither one can unite all people.

But the Unification Church is able to unite these areas with our ideology. So you have a Heavenly mission; you are the present leader to influence, observe, and control others, so you should have heavenly pride in yourself. You are influencing the whole world, through the academic and intellectual area. You have to be proud of yourself. All power comes from the most determined faith and conviction. Without conviction no power is generated. This kind of ideal, coming from a systematic thought system, will produce this kind of a power. A logical, theoretical system of thought is absolutely invincible. When you look this way at your position, your being here is tremendous.

Thinking, talking, preaching, are not enough! How are you going to bring the actualization of this wonderful ideology? You cannot actualize your ideology unless you can externally influence something. So we are obligated to train ourselves for this. An ordinary church or organization cannot even dare to plan something like this, and some of the things even the Communists cannot plan. We have to do it. We have to surpass the past and the present philosophers. In one sense, all existing churches are afraid of us, the Unification Church. If one of our girls goes to some Christian community, even as one person she can make a great sensation and stir everything up. They are afraid of you. When you go to even a Communist cell, they are stirred up, because the Communists are afraid of you. When you go to the philosophy professors or other intellectuals, you know more than they do, and they are scared of you.

All this action shows that you are standing on the world-wide level. You have a full foundation on which to actualize all this ideology. The International Communists are afraid of us. In their higher echelons they are talking about one of the dreadful threats to Communism. He is standing here in front of you, our True Parent, Reverend Moon.

Even Christian circles have a lead on some kind of information that Reverend Moon will control the whole United States on a higher level. Other Christian leaders are thinking, "What if he is the One!" Reverend Moon is a big issue on their higher levels. Foreign! He brings a problem everywhere he goes. Everything is sensational. He is proclaiming and making history, so he's a threat to them.

If he develops beyond Madison Square Garden, where many accidents happened because people could not get in, then he can advance to Yankee Stadium, and then half a million people will go to the Washington Monument. Then what would happen? Do they already think of it? So all Christians who have wide-open eyes ask, "What's going on? Where is Jesus?"

"But what is different about Reverend Moon and his disciples? He doesn't have three eyes; there are only two eyes and only one mouth." They know you have something which they don't have. Amen? (Amen!!) This is not a coincidence; this has been prepared for a long time. They haven't the knowledge! You have the Father, you have the knowledge. And now they have become prejudiced. All the news media in the United States and throughout the whole world are very sensitive. They are going to pay attention to what is going on centered on Reverend Moon. Communism cannot even compete with us.

So even if you have a lot of Ph.D.'s, and a lot of Masters degrees-what does it mean to heaven and to the world? That is a small portion of accomplishment. You have to feel the greatness of Belvedere training, because with it you are standing out among the whole world as a new leader in every aspect. You are being trained at Belvedere. We have a worldwide system in the Unification Church. We have the International Federation for Victory Over Communism. In universities and colleges throughout the world we have CARP and a world-wide professors' association. We also have Unified Science Conferences attended by world-renowned scientists from all over the world.

Even in England, for example, among the 120 participants at the Third Science Conference were Nobel Prize winners. They are sympathetic to us. They are coming to us. These world-renowned scholars are very wise, investigating everything. They have found that their association with us will be beneficial for them. That's why they are coming to us. If we concentrate more on the CARP system throughout the U.S. university and college campuses, we can very easily mobilize the professors to our side.

Very soon we will climb up the world educational level in many areas. In academic and cultural areas, the Little Angels and the Korean Folk Ballet will work. Already, we have all kinds of front-line international One World Crusade mobile units, the Society of a United World, and the Association for the Peace and Unity. These organizations are working on the worldwide level for the unity of religions, and they are all coming to the surface to meet this crisis.

So, to be a leader in that kind of a front-line organization you have got to be trained and prepared! That's why you are here. So you will be trained on the internal level; you've got to be training yourself in external areas.

When we think of mankind, we think of both men and women. Our ordinary common sense brings the idea that man is a man, and a woman is a woman. Women should do their own work, while man should do their masculine work. But in our system a man sometimes does a woman's work, and vice versa -women should sometimes do men's work. There is no demarcation. Without this area, we cannot win our enemy.

Sometimes the women should be trained to be more powerful than men. Sometimes they will be trained in karate, some kind of spiritual karate. You may be trained in a new school. So, even though women should accept that they cannot be a man physically or biologically, they must be convinced they are able to do something men cannot even do. You have to have your own pride: even though biologically you are physically weaker than men. You have to surpass them in some other area, thinking, etc. You have to convince yourself you are better than men. Are you that way, so far, or are you determined that you'll be that way? The same thing with men. You have to study many, many things.

Men should study women's work, and women study men's work. With this combined study, you will develop yourself as a better leader, better than anyone else. If all Unification Family members are trained this way, you will be the ones who will run the whole show in this world. So the time may come when you have to dig trenches in the field. To train yourself, everyone in the family is obligated to do a seven-day fast. Which would you prefer? Doing a seven-day fast or accomplishing the hardest work in one day? Which one would you choose if you were given some assignment: a seven day fast, or work hard one day and finish it? That's easier.

If you are determined to overcome one day of hard work, then very easily you can extend it to three days, seven days, or even three months. The very hard work will become more narrow and easier, so that you will be able to overcome and do a greater job than you expected. If you train in this area, you will be on the spot under any circumstances.

You will become expert in analyzing or comprehending the situation. You can even appraise and evaluate everything. So you will be the good yardstick, measuring the person, even evaluating a person spiritually and physically on the spot. That yardstick will expand from the original unit of inches to feet. The original unit cannot be changed-others are duplicates. You have to have one unit.

You yourself are the minimum unit; even God cannot change that. Each individual has a different personality, different backgrounds, but Father wants you to be an individual, unique, and unchanging unit. He wants to make you unique! With yourself as the unit, you can measure everything. Then with this measure you can expand to the wider and bigger levels.

Then if you put in more time, and more hard work, you will bring success. To become an unchanging unit, you need to be polished. Your legs should go in one direction, but sometimes your legs go in another direction. So you have to put them back. Whenever a spiritual formula is needed, we have to go by that. If you are trained in this area, wherever you go, whatever assignment you will have, you will survive. Also you will be victorious over that circumstance.

So when will this kind of training be enforced? Originally, you should have this strict, harsh training as soon as you became a member of the Unification Church. But because of that lack, Belvedere training was initiated, so new people would come.

In the future, all men and women members will be trained how to farm-not Western-style farming, but Oriental-style farming. That's harder. You have to surpass others. You must do a more extraordinary job than ordinary people do. Sometimes you will need to be trained in the ocean. Also sometimes in the air. You will be a pioneer. You had better have a big hope for the future. So, don't think, "Another training coming." You have to be ready for a new challenge, new excitement.

In one sense, Father is very talented in many areas. He has been trained that way. He sees the heavenly formula to fit every circumstance, every time. Even though he never learned how to play the piano, and is not an expert performer, he thinks the beauty of playing the piano is a finger's distance from him. His own theory is that the emphasis or strength of each touch, plus distance will make the variety of the beauty of playing the piano. Whether you touch the top, middle, or end of the key, it will make a different tone, a different sound! He is thinking how to make a uniform performing action among these ten fingers, how to have uniformity in pressing the finger on the key, how to put in the power in the proper area. That is interesting. So he thinks pianists should be trained in this area. They should repeat the same note one thousand times until this equal distribution of the strength comes up. So, he thinks if they train in this area, mastering this one area, then they will be superior to any famous pianist or performer. His first son, Hyo Jin, is taking piano lessons, so he should take the heavenly violin lesson, too. He is thinking that any music should fit the Principle, if it's true. So, he gave a lesson based on the Principle.

He is so talented there; he trained himself that way! So when he looks at something suddenly the intuition comes right there-whether first priority, second priority, or third priority. He is an orderly man, so he will take care of it!

So if he picks a garden enterprise, he can look at a tree and figure out what future this kind of tree has for a good enterprise. So what he does is think through all the causes, effects, and the reasons behind that tree. So he is really in the Principle!

The Principle has a vast, gigantic scope. But you can find the main stream of the structure right here. He trained himself so that you have a vast structure right there in the Principle. Science develops through formulas. We have the same thing in our thinking. In our living, we should have a practical formula. When Father picks somebody, he has an original plan for a certain person to be used for a certain purpose. But he gives him an opposite course, and puts an unnecessary task between him and the goal. Even to him the remote goal is achieved by directing someone in the opposite way. He encompasses the extremes, the North pole and the South pole. Why does he work this way? Because if this person accepts this situation, he can experience the extreme poles-North and South-and can easily overcome the entire circle. He can digest the entire environment.

By common sense in the Western world, religion and politics should be separated. They cannot be united. But what if God doesn't want to separate them? God set up both, and He will not welcome the separation of religion and politics. The origin of the separation of religion and politics began when religious leaders misused political power. In the medieval feudal system, this kind of an after-effect came, so through the Humanist movement, God let them be separated as a prevention of greater disaster.

We must influence politics, so this means we have a lot of things to do. So, maybe our activity in the political area should be enhanced. So you should know, in order to be a qualified leader, you absolutely need more training. You have to know how to speak out, to persuade others, be an excellent talker, and debater. In the Freeport Long Island area, the ordinary grass-roots people think that Reverend Moon is always coming, he's a fisherman. Even though the "S. S. New Hope, New York" is a very luxurious boat, to their eyes it becomes a fishing boat. Every day now he goes fishing. Oh, they think, "Reverend Moon is a world renowned preacher. Why, he must not have any connection with boat fishing-forget it!" That cannot be the idea! But now he makes a lot of friends there, and appears with these people, laughing, giggling, sometimes joking. But later they'll find out when they are invited to the Madison Square Garden banquet with a total of 2,000 people there. Their eyes will be turned upside-down! What in the world is this man ... ?" So eventually, who will be the leader?

Because he is superior to those people in Long Island, they think they have their own ideas. They realize he has a religious background and young people throughout the world; he's a rich man, and they sense something from him.

So he sees that in order to be a leader, you've got to be trained. Do you prefer to be trained just like Father trained himself? So he even wished for you people to be in prison for three years. He wants to see that. There are lots of things to be learned in the prison walls, under walls. You will be wonderful when you are imprisoned because of goodness, not for yourself. When you are labeled as imprisoned without sin, you will feel wonderful in that dark room.

Father's training of himself came straight from the prison cell. From the dungeon of hell, he trained himself to survive. Everybody should die. Everybody should be broken to death there. But he survived it! That extreme discipline went with a place where he could train himself. Because he trained in the dungeon of hell, other worldly troubles or any other circumstances in the world are far easier for him, because he got to train in the dungeon of the hell. He survived it. He overcame it. He controlled the situation. So other things became very easy for him! He became a strong person in that cell of hell. Do you understand what I'm trying to say? Are you with him?

I am even thinking whether the Belvedere trainees should make a tunnel from here to East Garden without any tools. An underground tunnel straight to East Garden. But I don't think anybody would survive that. Even just like in war-time, you should make a tunnel for your survival-one year, two years. We wish you to be trained that way. Then if he should train you that way, your training program is just too easy?

Now, we have three stages of training. Number one, you will first be trained in an American setting; then you will go to a little harder training in Japan; then hardest training will be in Korea. You will be trained in three areas. Then after that what are you going to be? World leaders. Keep calm. Keep cool. You have to go to the deepest place. So you should even think in your conception that you are travelling the deepest ocean to be the leader. You are going to the top of the highest mountain of the Heavenly Father! You have to unite the extreme good and the extreme bad.

You may know about ammonium sulfate fertilizer. Father had to carry it all the time with his naked hands. So his skin was worn out, his bones came out. That stuff is poison, very harmful to the skin. So with this skin, he still survived! This kind of a chemical will even tear up strong cloth, the uniforms. So after six months, all prisoners were affected by this chemical, all their skin became watery. Their skin cells were all broken! So even under that situation, he praised God. He survived that. He said to himself, "I shall overcome this. Not only this, but other hardships."

And so why can somebody say. "Why do I have to go through all this hardship! Why isn't our training easy-going?" This training is necessary. At any time our strong enemy might be here. We have to be ready! If you were drills, you would have to become the sharpest. Such a strong and sharp drill could never be broken, but just persevere. Unification Church members should be tough, unbreakable, sharp. A diamond has such a quality. Gold has a quality, but not better than diamond. So, if you become the sharpest person, you will be persevering, like a strong drill; you will be more than diamond and gold. So then God will choose that kind of personality as a potential leader.

Even though you feel yourself unable to do all this now, you feel that you would like to be that kind of a person. You would want to train your heirs, or your successors to be that kind of person. Even though America is a gigantic nation, if leaders with this personality come out, they will inherit this country. So in a sense, you have everything under your feet. Time will tell if that kind of a potential leader exists in this world. So, you must feel you have that kind of value.

You cannot be changed for others. You are such valuable leaders in the contemporary world. You are not only leaders in this country, but I want you to be leaders in Japan and even in African nations. Americans should not think that they do not fit into African black countries. We have to make a connection with these people.

Belvedere is the place where we train qualified world leaders to have this kind of gigantic conception of a new ideology. Very soon the time shall come when we will have to protect ourselves; we will even train you not to use weapons. We train not necessarily to kill somebody, but we have to defend ourselves and protect ourselves. Look at New York City with its daily crimes and murders-we have to protect ourselves.

So we have to bring ourselves into the public mind; they must think, this Unification group, when united, is able to do anything in this world! Suppose ten thousand events are mobilized with ten or eleven people. Certainly, New York City, with its ten million population, will be paralyzed in the greatest confusion of the whole world. So even if he instructs us, "Let's have a seven-day fast," it will be certain to be fulfilled. Then what would happen? Ten thousand events with ten people each! Even a special broadcast from the White House, in Washington, D.C., would have no effect at all, unless Reverend Moon releases the order.

Then, he will appear before the public for all of mankind, giving them the directions where to go, what to do. So, this kind of thinking will come very soon. Before Communists do their thing and take over this country, the Unification movement should step in-the earlier the better. You have to train yourself, on the street, how to teach, how to preach, how to debate, how to even block the road and talk to people. This kind of training is very important. Wouldn't you like to be engaged in this kind of new project? Sometimes, you know, you will feel weak, while others are feeling good.

It is wonderful to see how one person from Asia can come here, and within less than two years start to influence all public opinion and social circles. That's how amazing he is. So, when you look at him this way, Father is a very extraordinary person, isn't he? Ordinary people wouldn't dare to believe or plan such adventures. But everybody here, including you, thinks he will do more adventurous and more extraordinary things. Do you believe it?

All this did not come to his mind spontaneously. When he was your age, he was already contemplating and planning for this. In one sense the history of America must be longer than we think. Suppose the churches or the American public did not oppose his idea and direction-what would happen from now on? I can see only three alternatives: Come to the Unification Church as a member; run away eternally somewhere; or thirdly, die. So, American people should make one of these three choices. Until they reach that stage, Father will continue to work with you. No other American can even compete with us. We will do more than any American or any other world leader can do. So naturally this means that if the enemy comes in, we will get rid of him.

After our success at Madison Square Garden, the news media will have to be either for or against Reverend Moon's movement. We will tell them, "Say what's wrong with Reverend Moon? Even though he's an Asian, you cannot do more than he does. What's wrong with him?" They are even going to begin to defend him one hundred percent.

This morning he was very glad to see a Long Island paper print an article with Father speaking to a thousand people in Barrytown, plus a picture. The writer says, "Why do you misunderstand these young people?" They defend him totally and make even more propaganda than we do!

So, in a situation like this, the problem is solved this way: they completely oppose us; this is fantastic. From the beginning they didn't like us at all. At the beginning, they said "everything is wrong, everything is bad about Reverend Moon. " Then they gave all the unnecessary things, all the bad things they could name. For three years they broadcast propaganda against us, but Unification Church and Reverend Moon continued where they were going. So they had to come back and defend him. That was the only way left. They faced a heavenly strategy, but they are very clever people: after three years of attacking, there was nothing left to attack. This time, for their own benefit, they are going to come to us.

When opposition comes, you have to have hope. Suddenly, spontaneously, supporters will appear. Even though we may make mistakes later, after they support us, they cannot say anything, because they had earlier spread unfounded rumors and accusations. So we are safe both ways. Even though we have to expect opposition, we have to fight. So we have nothing to worry about. Let them oppose us.

In the Orient, we have lots of dogs outside the house, watch-dogs. Whenever a stranger comes, the dog's job is to bark, and continue to bark at the strangers! So, this is their position in relation to the Unification Church. Sometimes after the dog barks a long time the stranger becomes a good friend. Sometimes the barking dog may be against the master for the house, who knows? But his job is to bark! If they oppose us, that's fine! Maybe the excitement is natural. We expect that kind of a trouble. We have nothing to be fearful of, nothing to be worried about.

The same thing happened in other countries. I cannot explain how. The same thing happened in Korea. Now they are looking for the Unification Church and for Reverend Moon. Same thing happened in Japan. Now the Japanese government can survive only with the Victory over Communism Federation. Even Free China is totally supporting our family. The same thing will apply to America. The same formula. Same formula.

So you will lose nothing if you are trained by him in a very harsh way, in a very strict way. You will lose nothing. So in the long run, you will have to be a great leader. So his idea is to let you be that kind of highly trained leader for the future. Do you think that kind of training will be good for you, or should he just leave you alone? If you have your mind conditioned in such a way that you ask, "Why don't you train me more than you do?" then you will be far above the others. I want you to be that kind of a material. Then if you are ahead of me, I will be very glad to beg you,' 'Why don't you let me follow you?"

So I don't want anybody to think that they can come out here to escape. We don't want the kind of person who says, "I don't want to be involved." I want to kick them out. David Kim is not harsh enough to kick you out, so he is not a good Executive Director of the trainees. Once in a while, this kind of harsh training is better for you. So you have to realize this kind of harsh training. The most disciplined way of training is absolutely necessary. Would you like to pledge in front of him or would you like to undergo the best training, in the hardest, most disciplined way? Would you really want that?

In order to be that kind of material, you have to change your conception. You have to change your reasoning, so you have to think, "What am I going to do from now on, if I am given some new assignment? I have to do something new. " So you have to think of doing something other than what you are now doing. Train yourself in thinking and in reasoning. Even when you are relaxing, that should be training in relaxing. Even when you are walking, you are training yourself how to walk.

What is training for? Training is preparation for the future. Belvedere trainees should be willing to undergo any kind of training, even tomorrow or any time. Then you will be progressing. Have you ever thought about this kind of thing? Some might think, "All the New York family and all the IOWC teams are mobilized to make Madison Square Garden successful. So why are we training ourselves by studying here? What are we doing here?" Have you ever thought like that? You would like to participate even during your training in going out, distributing tickets to bring the people to Madison Square Garden.

Some may complain that this is an important dispensation, the end of the second seven-year course, so why aren't trainees allowed to participate in this crusade? Have some of you ever thought about that? One week before September 18, all the Unification family from throughout the United States, even including Europe will come and participate with them. Would you like to participate in this crusade immediately, or seven days before the 18th, when all the Family comes from all the states and all over the world? You would like to participate before the ordinary Family members come. We don't want you to be onlookers, just because you have the heavenly prestige of being Belvedere trainees. Would you like to be a follower of a certain program already set-up, or would you like to be an initiator in a new area, and explore it? Are you confident?

From today, three weeks are left. All trainees, including David Kim, will be mobilized to participate in this Madison Square Garden Crusade. Once a week, you may be coming back from New York City to maintain this beautiful place. That schedule is set, you should keep that kind of heavenly pride. All your eyes and ears and your senses should concentrate in the Madison Square Garden Crusade. This is a practical training situation. Would you like to participate? Would you like to be above or beneath all the IOWC commanders and mobile units and the New York Church? There are 55 to 60 of you, aren't there? This is equal to an International One World Crusade mobile unit. So your average daily result of accomplishment should be far superior to the other groups.

If you do not accomplish that, Father's pride or prestige will diminish, because you are his direct Belvedere trainees. With this kind of dignity, you should show yourself to the whole group and the whole city. You are different from others. You ate Belvedere food, you breathed Belvedere air, you slept here, and you received the heavenly message and the heavenly sunshine. So you must be different from other groups. So, for three weeks the Belvedere trainees should break the record. So even if your legs are sleepy, awake them and make them go on. And even if your stomach is empty, hungry, tell it to be patient and go on. Even if you have perspiration continuously, continue to go on. With your hands you will grab wonderful people. Invite them to come to Madison Square Garden. Even if you have not experienced this kind of a thing, you have to be creative. You have to plan. This will be the great chance for world propaganda.

Belvedere has all different nationalities, more than twelve nations. So when all ten mobile unit commanders see Belvedere trainees of their own nationality, they will have to look up to you, because you must do the good job. How many hours would you like to work on it, if you go to New York? (20 hours.) If the New York people and our mobile unit commanders decide on a 21 -hour day, you will already be defeated right there! How can you do it? (24 hours.) Even if you are determined to work for 72 hours, if somebody says 73 hours-whether it's possible or impossible I don't know-you will be defeated. You have to be a little tougher. If any other contestant sets a record-breaking figure, you will already be behind him.

So this will be a crucial dividing point. Anybody who can surpass your working hours is the winner. You will be the loser. So you must be determined that you will continue even without food. You are ready to fight, ready to witness. That will be the key point. If you work even risking your life. You will definitely be the winner. Even if a person dies with this kind of ideal, he's the victor. So this kind of conception is very important.

Those family members who are not American, raise your hand. Then within our trainees, who is superior to the others? This is constructive competition. As trainees, you will compete with other groups, but among the trainees, your teams will compete with each other. Then, through this a representative nation will come out. Which nation will be the farthest? I want you to be active in this area. So some might say," I have a Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree, and I may not fit this kind of work, this practical battle." Sometimes you will be opposed, but once in a while they will respond to you! I want you to have this kind of experience. Father started from the bottom.

The Unification Church does not accept the idea that everybody has some kind of talent! We don't accept that. If you prove during your Belvedere training that you have become far superior to any one of the ten IOWC units, Father may give you the chance to go overseas next year to Japan, for international work. Who knows? It's up to you how you perform. Already he's working to mobilize one thousand mobile-unit members to go to Japan. He is even planning for them to visit Korea and establish overseas missions in six nations: France, England, Germany, and Holland. We are going to make preparations right now. Do you have that kind of ambition to participate in an international project? Several teams will be formed to tour around the world. In the meantime, new trainees will be trained. So he's instructing me how the new mobile units will perform. According to your ability, some kind of priority should be given.

He has instructed me to make a tabulation of who are the older members here. In chronological age, who is the oldest member? Even though you are above forty, fifty, or whatever, Father asks you to feel as though you were just born right now. Feel young. If you feel your assignment belongs to a fifteen-year-old, then you will become young and fresh. Act just like a teenagers like a beautiful girl, but never beyond your chronological age. Please practice it! If your mind is young, your physical appearance will become young. Even though you may not reach this state, you can smell young, wear young perfume. So he doesn't want you old-timers to be behind the younger ones. At least in one area, he wants you to be ahead of them. Those who are getting older, sleep less, so you have more time than young people. Father is very curious to see how the old timers are doing, so you had better have great hope for the future.

Father is 55 years old. You are younger than him. So Father thinks, even though he is 55, he never feels old. He never wants to be behind the young people. So I want you to compete with me, not behind me. So you will beat me on the field right now.

Your area will be schools and churches. Your assignment is to contact church groups and school groups. Up to the present we have been contacting just on the individual level. This area is wide open, so he assigned you people to contact schools, communities, and churches, where masses of people can be mobilized. Father is even thinking of making an exchange and going to high-school principals or assistant principals and saying, "Why don't you mobilize three thousand young people to come to Madison Square Garden? We can even give you some contribution later. We will pledge them something if they come. For instance, if three thousand people from your high school go, we will do something for your students. Whatever they need, then we will give it to them, something as a donation or subsidy, if they really send three thousand to Madison Square Garden. You can approach church members, high schools, even colleges and universities.

Then $90,000 will be needed to fill Madison Square Garden, if you spend $3.00 per head. Then to fill 30,000 seats we can give $90,000 as a donation. At the moment an enormous amount of money is being spent to bring one person to fill a seat-$50 per head to fill the seats right now. So, if we expand this new strategy, going to schools, colleges or churches with $90,000-three dollars per head-we will easily fill the Garden. That is the formula. This is not necessarily bribing, we will help them later! We can easily mobilize these people by giving an incentive. Then later, if they don't send people, we won't give them anything.

If we are successful in bringing and influencing church members and pastors, they will automatically become our friends and neighbors. If we give money earlier, that's bribing. But if we say, "If you send these people, then we will give something to your church, your school, or whatever. We will arrive at a figure later. " We will see how many tickets are from each school with a special mark on them. Then later, according to the quantity, we will give them a gift of appreciation. If you give money, that's illegal. So, in order to get his church members to come to the crusade, the minister will have to tell his group things about Reverend Moon. Than they will have to say, if they send people they will receive a gift from us. Later this will be very effective.

When they come to the Madison Square Garden Crusade, and hear him speak and enjoy it, they will want to come again!

Then why is this plan necessary? It is necessary for future mobilization of the manpower. Once we make this kind of channel, later for Yankee Stadium, we can just send a letter saying, "Please come," and suddenly they will be mobilized. Masses of people will come and that will be a great sensation. If we are successful with this kind of system without any big advertisement, automatically all people will appear at Madison Square Garden or whatever place we designate. That will be a great accomplishment.

After successful results in Madison Square Garden, we will make a contract for Yankee Stadium. Then later half a million people, will appear in Washington. Even later, ten thousand buses can be chartered, and right there 500,000 people may be easily mobilized. By that time, you will be a leader in this new kind of project.

This will be an experimental case. And based on this kind of occasion, more scientific research will follow. So the future mass mobilization plan will be based on our work. Do you understand? We are not bribing though. We give them the promise, "We'll give you this kind of gift." We don't necessarily say Reverend Moon. So all you PR people will go to the higher levels, deans, pastors, and work it out. We will silently give this kind of pledge.

This kind of a system should be well organized, with very experienced people. Leaders should be approached very decently. If you do it in the wrong way, then some bad rumors will spread. You have to think, because at the moment, some seat costs $50.00, so, if I bring 100 people, I am saving $47.00 per ticket. This campaign is very costly. That's why we hired Dentsu, a news media company.

So your mission is to contact schools, universities, and colleges and give out mass tickets. If a bad rumor spreads that the Unification Church bought people, this is unnecessary. This promise will be fulfilled after they send the people with tickets. If the church or school says, "We don't need your help," that's fine. But, from our point of view, because they are mobilizing we have to give them something as a gift. Do not give the impression that we are buying people to come. No, this is an entirely different concept. If this rumor spreads in the news media, we are in trouble.

You have to negotiate several times, and then when the atmosphere is right and they have promised to come, then we will give the promise. Ask the minister how many he can send. If he says 38 people, ask," Why don't you send 90 people? Why don't you send 110? Then, after it is over, we can give a donation to your church. " That kind of thing can be talked over, but not on the first day. Then you go to the minister of a congregation with 1,000 members, "How many can you send? 300? Why not more? if you send more, later, we will donate."

He is giving the guideline right now. You just contact them gradually, then you will give even 1,000 tickets to one church! That kind of contact should be privately and confidentially approached. First survey and investigate, so we have got to have an organizational chart. It will be good for both sides, for us because they come to our Crusade, and for them because we give them something. Say, "If we send a thousand tickets can you do it?" Then the minister will tell the congregation very easily! Then very soon you have a foundation. We can say, "Why don't you come over and we can have a workshop here at Belvedere. "

This is the only door open for the total salvation of America. When the door is open, Christianity will be saved, the campuses will be saved. Then all opposition from the Christian churches will be cut off. So on all high school and college campuses you can do this. In later years, then all the young people on campus will support him, all the young people in the church will support him and not necessarily their own church.

You have to think prayerfully and wisely work out the details. Through this project, all college campuses and ministers of the established churches will be touched by you. That's why Father has given you this special task.

Now, at the moment, we have ten mobile unit commanders and the New York Family. You can either investigate churches by yourself, or get information from the New York family and Mr. Kamiyama or Paul Werner's team. You will begin this very soon. There are ten territories within the city limits, and ten suburban areas, so there are lots of churches and lots of schools. Some churches will say, "OK, we'll accept you."

Make categories, "A," "B," "C," and systematically tabulate the percentage of opposition or support, and how many Catholics, Baptists, Presbyterians, liberals or conservatives. That kind of thing will be automatically tabulated. Then statistics will come out for future plans. This will be very helpful for national projects.

So you have to think you will visit that church building, whatever. So, because of your effort you can visit them any time, even after the Madison Square Garden crusade. We will have this kind of gigantic influence. Understand? (Yes!) After lunch, you will consult Mr. Kamiyama and Paul Werner. So even this afternoon form the teams, for example if you have 60 people, make one unit of five people. Sometimes put a man and a woman together. That means you have ten teams. Then the men and women will be mixed. Some of the PR staff will be on the teams. You have to approach higher levels. So this afternoon even though you may not know where to proceed, you have to organize it; even though you are not sure where to go, you have to spend the time prayerfully in New York. So every normal function is stopped right now. From tomorrow on, you will be really actively involved. This is an emergency situation. Tonight you planned to have an exam, didn't you? Everything is cancelled. All vans should be ready, except the special task force. And we have to form teams this afternoon after lunch. Does everybody have a sleeping bag?

May our God and Father's mercy and grace be upon you. Let us pray.

The Path That We Tread

It may be the first time for you to be gathered in such a large place. I think there are many such churches in New York City.

When you think of God's will in connection with the churches, many things come to mind. As we know, the providence of God is going to be finalized in our group. In the time of Jesus there was a Jewish tradition laid by other people, but around the man of Jesus there was a different group being bred, and the Jewish religion became different and separated from Jesus. And the social system around the Jewish religion and that around Jesus became different from each other. By the same token, there has come to be a vast difference between the existing churches and our group, and our group must be able to make a new system and new environment different from that of the others. We must see the difference between the tradition and historical background of other churches, the established churches, and what is going to be created by us.

We can well see in the course of history that if a group is moving with the tide of time and in conformity with the existing system, there's no such thing as contradiction or persecution coming from others. But when a group appears to create a new system and new role, pave a new path, there are always difficulties. In that light I'm going to talk about that role, the path that we must tread.

First of all, we must know that the road we are going to tread is different from other ways. It is because we are going to create a new road that it is different from others, naturally. But we are sure that the road we are going to pave is under God's will and in the mainstream of God's will. We know too well that God Himself is leading us on a different way from others. We know that in the established churches people are stalemated, at a dead end. So we see that people are on the verge of life or death in the life of faith; they must determine themselves whether they are going up or declining. There is no person in the world who wants to decline. God has been leading the people in faith, and in that sense we know that God has not been aiming at people's decline. It is true that God wants His people to ascend on the road, to come to Him. But why are people doomed to decline? When we go on the ascending road there must be God's will and people's efforts combined. If what people are doing goes in conformity with God's will everything will be okay, but when people are going the opposite way to God's will there are apt to be two roads, differing from each other.

In the Christian world as it nears the latter days there must come a transitional period. Though Christianity started on a straight path in its earlier days, as it went along somehow the roads became crooked and different from the origin. So the place we are going to be settled in the latter days must be different from that of those who started in the origin. In the early days of the Christian movement it started from Jesus, but in the latter days people have established their own systems. When true religion appears, its road must be different from the established ones, we can imagine.

But in what way must they be different from each other? We see many religious groups around us but in their origin they have different aims in mind. At the best, in Christianity people believe in their own salvation and work for their own salvation. Even in the time of Jesus Christ people around him thought that Jesus was their teacher and Jesus was for them alone. People of those days did not think of Jesus in terms of the teacher of the world, but they claimed him, only thinking of their own salvation from or through him. The Jewish people thought that Jesus Christ was coming for the salvation of their own people, the chosen nation of the Israelites. They did not think, or hated to think, that Jesus came for the world -- not for them alone, not for the chosen people alone, but the whole population of the world was going to be saved through the chosen nation as the instrument. So people's thought was fixed on their own salvation, but Jesus was thinking of something else, broader than that. Something different and something more vast was going to happen through the person of Jesus Christ, and that's what God was planning for him and around him.

Of course Jesus was going to work out his providence -- which was God's, of course -- around the chosen nation of the Israelites, but the people of Israel and Judaism were fixing their thoughts and concentrating on their own salvation. That created the difference between the two.

Then what would have happened if and when the Israelites came into conformity with God's will around Jesus Christ and headed for the things of higher and broader dimension? Then there has to come into existence a new tradition aiming at the salvation of the whole world. Then by people's adopting the new system, Christian thought of higher dimension could have been created. Then something entirely different from the tradition of Christianity -- not Christianity but Judaism -- could have been produced at that time. Just as in the time of Jesus Christ, now we, being again in the latter days, must create a new road to tread. We must not be settled down where we are or become stalemated here, but make a new opening to go through to involved the whole world.

We can well imagine that when the Lord of the Second Advent comes, things of a new dimension will be opened. up before us; so the people of the latter days must be prepared for this, to receive the things of higher dimension so they can go in conformity with God's will in the last days.

But if and when in the Christian world people cling to the old tradition, can they go with the Lord of the Second Advent to the world of new dimension? Up to the present moment people have been safe in believing in Christ -- just in belief, they are settled in belief. But when Jesus Christ appears again they must not only believe in him but follow him. If you receive

Jesus Christ, would he want you just to accept him as the Christ and believe in him, or know him, understand him and follow him? He would want us to know him and understand him, his heart. And he would even want you to act in place of him, doing what he would have you do.

When you receive the Lord of the Second Advent do you have to go through the gate of the cross? Then we must think that the cross must be removed from our minds. Up to the present moment we have been believing in the cross, but from the moment that we meet Jesus of the Second Advent -- Lord of the Second Advent -- we must erase the thought of the cross.

Up to now, people thought of Christianity in terms of their own group, their own nation, but from now on our scope must become larger than that, encompassing the whole world. The scope of our thought around the man of Jesus, Lord of Second Advent, must be broadened so as to get the whole world involved. In the Christian churches we must deal with problems of the world transcending national boundaries in order to receive things of new dimension. We must even create a new dimension of cultural things, and then we must have the people follow that. The Lord of the Second Advent must come for the whole world, for the salvation of the whole world. Then those who follow him must receive his idea and think of things in terms of the world, not of the individual. If Jesus were here, when he saw that a vast number of denominations had been created,. would he be glad of the fact? Christianity started from his teaching, which was one, not many. Then when he finds many Christian denominations in disharmony among themselves, God will not be happy over that and Jesus Christ is not happy over that. God did not send Jesus Christ to create so many denominations. Then when Jesus sees that there are so many denominations created after him, he must feel responsibility for that fact.

And if there appears a group of people who will think of the salvation of the whole world and work for that goal, Jesus will be happy about that fact and will come to aid them and God will also come to aid that group. People may not know the particulars and details of the group, but since there is God's will working in it, both God and the Lord of the Second Advent will work through the group, in the group.

In the group there is no doubt that the world of unification would come first, because there have been so many denominations. And by unifying the people in the group and in the established churches and in the secular world the Lord of the Second Advent will unite the whole world. In the light of that concept, we are confident that the name of the Unification Church is welcomed by both God and Jesus Christ.

We are here not to follow the tradition laid by the Christians of the world at the present moment, but we are going to pave the road of higher dimension, and we believe that that is the desire of both God and Christ.

Our group is of higher dimension than the established churches and naturally there must come vast difference between what we are and what the Christian people are. From the very beginning we must be different from others. While people of the established churches think of their own salvation, we are thinking of the salvation of the whole world at the sacrifice of ourselves. At the sacrifice of individuals we want to have the salvation of the families worked out, and at the sacrifice of families we must establish the salvation of the nation, and at the sacrifice of the nation we must work out the salvation of the whole world. And between those two ways of thought there's a vast difference. Which group would God take delight in?

In the days of Jesus Christ, he wanted to save mankind at the sacrifice of himself, and even on the cross he blessed the sinners. And compared to that, the Christians after him would think of their own salvation on the individual level, never thinking of the salvation of the whole world. There are not many people who are thinking of the salvation of the whole world, and it saddens the heart of Jesus Christ. That we know too well. Even at the moment of death Jesus blessed the sinners and he blessed his enemies who pierced him and despised him. And compared to that, people in the Christian world think of their own salvation. Not many of them are thinking of the salvation of the world. And that is not God's will, we know.

There were many enemies around Jesus but he would not reject them or deny them. He would be anxious to include all of those and would want to move their hearts and unify them.

We have something to be analyzed. When we think of the opposing power coming from certain other sources, are the people more horrible, or Satan, who is working behind people or in the people? Satan is the thing to be hated, but not the people in whom Satan is working. So Jesus did not hate the people. He would feel compassion for the people and would want to drive Satan from the people. But there are not so many people in the present world who resemble Jesus, working the same way.

Then in what point would our group be different from other groups, other churches? As in the example of Jesus Christ, we must not hate our enemies, hate the power coming from the opposition group, but we must hate the Satan working in the group and we must be compassionate toward the people and try to get them involved in our project, and by moving their hearts have them become our members. That's our goal. For instance, the established church members would protest against us and even persecute us, but we must not try to repel their power or deny them but be compassionate to them and try to win their hearts, and finally unify them into our group to reach out to the end of the world. That's what we should be doing, and when we are the other way around we will be hated by people, and that's not God's will. So we must strive on to go ahead, drawing the people into our group with compassionate hearts and love.

The Christianity which God has been fostering for 6,000 years is doomed. Up to the present God has been with Christianity. But in Christianity things are stalemated. People don't know where to go, or they are satisfied with their old things. Then what would God have people do? He would want a new group to appear and work transcending the denominational boundaries and national boundaries, working for the salvation of the whole world. Without this group God's tollgate cannot be opened towards the world.

Even in that point our Unification Church must be different from the established churches. The points of difference are complete, not just vague. First of all, we have different goals. The view of our purpose is different. On the road what we are doing is different. In Christianity and other ideologies or "isms" or philosophies, their views of life, views of the salvation of the world or betterment of the world are different and vague. We can express it in one word, at least, that they think of the thing in terms of their own benefits. Everything comes in terms of themselves, those individuals, and even after salvation they think of the salvation of themselves. But what do we have different from this? We believe in God for the salvation of the whole world. And we work for that goal.

In order for us to inherit what our predecessors have so far accomplished, to go to the final goal, we must inherit stage by stage from what they have done and have it developed to larger or higher dimension, so that we can attain the goal. In Jesus' day the scope of concepts which the Jewish people entertained was vastly different from what Jesus was going to do, so we must in opening the things of new dimension be reminded of the fact.

Then we must go through all the levels of things. We must start working from the things of individual level, and then through the things of family level, national level, reaching to the things of worldwide level. Whatever difficulties there may come, we must welcome them and digest them. For instance, we must receive and digest persecution coming to us when we work for the providence on the individual level, and at the sacrifice of ourselves we must save our family, and at the sacrifice of the family we must be able to save our clan and nation, and at the sacrifice of the nation we must be able to save the whole world.

And when we have that attitude of welcoming whatever persecution comes to us and by getting over the difficulties, we can proceed to the next stage and still the next.

God and Christ of course will love the person if he or she is going to sacrifice himself or herself for the sake of his family or hers, but there must come the broader concept of things next, always broadening the scope of salvation. That's the way God would have us work. The broader our scope, the more help is coming from above, from God. So in that case we are sure that God is working with us and through us, and our project will be realized for sure.

Have you ever stopped to ask when there is going to be Sabbath for Father? Can God be relaxed and enjoy His Sabbath seeing only the individual salvation? If the vast population of the world are left unsaved, His heart will not be eased. We can arrive at a safe conclusion, that God can rest only after the salvation of the whole world. Then when God cannot enjoy Sabbath, can Jesus Christ enjoy a rest? Can the Holy Ghost enjoy a relaxed atmosphere?

This is the great sacred formula, and we must repeatedly emphasize our having to sacrifice ourselves on the individual level to save our family, and we must readily sacrifice our family for the salvation of our clan and nation, and we must readily sacrifice our nation for the salvation of the whole world. And then alone we can have God enjoy Sabbath, and Jesus Christ also.

It is going to be a grand human march. You, as individuals, when you are ready to sacrifice yourselves for the salvation of your family, then your families will be ready to sacrifice themselves for the salvation of broader things, tribal salvation and clan, and those will be sacrificed for the salvation of the nation, and the nations will be sacrificed for the salvation of the whole world. And that grand march will be in accordance with God's cry on the battlefield.

We have a new view of life here in our group. In the Christian world when they are blessed in marriage, they think of their own salvation or own happiness, and struggle hard to win everything for their happiness. But here in our group when we are blessed in holy marriage we are ready to sacrifice ourselves or our family for the salvation of broader things, and that's why God will work with us.

Seemingly, in appearance, we are miserable people, sacrificing all that we have. But in God's sight and in the view of Jesus Christ and the passed away saints and sages, we are the only group with whom God will work, and for whose aid God will mobilize the whole world.

In the secular world people would do just anything, and they would try to sacrifice anything for their own good and own benefits, but on the contrary, in our group we are ready to sacrifice ourselves and sacrifice anything we have for the sake of the whole world and all mankind.

In your families you are dearly in love with each other, but you must let your husband or wife go for the salvation of the whole world, and if necessary, you are separated and work in different comers of the earth, never, never wanting your partner back at the time of trial and difficulty.

There are many tragic things occurring in our family lives in the worldly sense, and when you go out witnessing in the front line your children may cling to you and want you to stay at home. But you must kick them away and with determined and almost cruel mind go out to the battlefield.

In the early days of our movement back in Korea the history was woven with many such things. When you wanted to go out to the frontline to do witnessing your children would cling to you, never wanting to let you go. And then the parents would entice the children and take them to a place where there was an orphanage though they were not fatherless or motherless, and the parent would just leave them in the orphanage and go to the front line to fight. You must not forget that parental love is the thing most resembling God's love, and you know how it would be for parents to leave their children in orphanages. But when there are two things ahead of you, and when you know that the one thing is more important than the other and that that thing is more for the eternal dimension, then you will leave your children and work for that goal. I know too well what it is to be persecuted by the people because I myself have gone through all those things. God will remember you and knows that you are now going through difficulties and persecution, but the thing you are going to enjoy will be greater than the difficulties you are going through. And God is in that case cruel to you and Just turns His face away and sounds the battle cry to drive you out on the rough road.

Our Master experienced many bitter experiences. His members would love him, would want to cling to him and would want to hear him teach them, but he would just drive them out. He would tell them, "Instead of loving me, you must love the people of the world. Instead of doing things for me, you must do things for other, miserable people. " And he would be harsh on them and without mercy drive them on the rough road of life, and then he had to weep in his mind and pray for them. And at that moment he would

think, "If I am not doing this for the sake of the will of God I'm the greatest of all sinners. " That has always been his feeling. He is doing this with regret and sorrow in his heart, and he remembers the difficulties still in the faces of his early members. And now he's here assembling the members from many nations and he's going to drive you on the difficult road, and his heart just aches and breaks.

With the whole salvation of mankind in my mind, when I assemble you from many nationalities it means by having you work for all mankind we can reach out to every comer of the earth and cover the earth with salvation under the will of God. And by my doing this alone, we can reach out to the people. I have long waited for this day to come, and I have spent my whole life in persecution to meet you people and work with you. And when we realize that God is working behind the scenes and what we are doing is connected with God's will, we must know that God has been waiting for the day to come in which He will assemble people from all over the world -- especially the young people -- and have them work for His will.

Just imagine: God has been working the difficult history of 6,000 years concentrating on His people, and in driving them out onto the field of sacrifice to save the world, He has been feeling an aching heart and a broken heart, but His task is not yet finished. In worldwide terms He is working for the salvation of the whole world at the cost of those assembled here from so many nationalities. And while His sorrow continues, we must work on; until we will have established His kingdom He will not take Sabbath.

Then when I know and understand and feel God's heart, what would I do? I love you, of course, but would I just embrace you and rejoice with you in praise of God here, or would I have to drive you out on the harsh road of salvation of the world'? I have to drive you on the harsh road because there are things to be accomplished, still left unaccomplished. So until the day comes I cannot have you rest. You must understand my heart. In that point we are entirely different from the people in the Christian world today.

In the worldwide Unification Church, people are sacrificing themselves for the established churches and for the people of the democratic world, including all the population of the world. What we are doing now is not for the benefit of the Unification Church. We are working for the benefit and salvation of the United States and the world. You have discarded everything. You have left your homes and left everything you used to think was a blessing for you, and you are working for the sake of all mankind. You have left your beloved ones, your family, your friends, your nation, and you are here assembled before me and you are waiting for instructions coming from me. I know there are resentments in your families, among your friends, and they would at best be anxious about you and sometimes persecute you, even curse you, and you are here bravely as a warrior for the will of God.

But I am so happy that God has chosen the best members of the families existing in the world. You are more on God's side than the families and friends you left, and it is natural for Satan to attack you and attack you through those who have once been beloved by you.

In Joining this Family, what you found here was greater than what you left or lost. But as soon as you gain something here, you will be ready to sacrifice it and then you will win more things, more things of higher value, and you then will be ready to sacrifice those towards things of higher value and higher dimension.

I know that your families, your friends whom you have left, will entertain the bitter feeling of having been left out, but let them wait, and the day will come that they will share the joy of what you will have gained for them. You must not curse those who persecute you. Even Christians would hate you. And your society, your nation and the whole world will hate you. But never mind, let them wait and they will know what it is that we are doing here, and we will bring them back at last. We must be sympathetic with them because they are ignorant of what we are doing. Those who have knowledge are more responsible for God's will than other people.

You are persecuted on the individual level even by your loved ones, and it is because they are ignorant of what we are doing. And when you think of that you must be sympathetic with them and get over the difficulties. And then when our scope is broadened to the level of the family and nation, the persecution coming will be more severe. You must expect that. But by that time you are more immunized and you are going to be more courageous to get over those difficulties. Then if you are successful in realizing the will of God, what are we going to do? What are you going to do? When we say we reach out to the end of the world, what do we mean? Whom are we going to meet there?

After winning the goal by leaping over the obstacles, you must come back in for the salvation of our own family, which you lost, and your own nation and your own society and nation. That's something like Jesus coming again. And you must come again to save your family and friends whom you had lost. And that's something like paving the road again. At first we dash on the bumpy road, but when the time is ripe we must come back and pave the way, level it out. Then at that time you will be welcomed by your friends, by your family, your clan, tribe and the nation, and in paving the road you will win back cooperation from all the people around you. In that case you are paving the road for the later generations, individuals, families and nations of the future.

Then what is our purpose of being assembled here? In a word, we are going to establish something good, something new in connection with God's will. That is how we are different from the established churches, from what they have in the established churches. And what we win, step by step, will be connected with the salvation of the whole world. God has been expecting the Christian world to do that and the democratic world to do that, but since they are failing, we are going to inherit from them what they have already accomplished, and from here on, we are going to work out God's providence.

As you well know, without Christian ideology in the United States the people from so many nations could not have been living in such harmony. In the old world of Europe your forefathers were persecuted in their religion, in their belief. That's why they came over to this continent to establish a new nation.

In your political system, it's something like two nations were combined: the federal government and the state governments. At first the thirteen colonies came to exist, and then it developed into fifty states under the federal government. The law they observed in the colonial days was adopted when the new system came. Without Christian ideology disharmony was apt to be there and conflict could have come.

Then what will naturally happen is that if the Christian ideology is corrupted, conflict will come about in the political system, too. Since your homes are established under the Christian ideology and every social system is established under the Christian ideology, if the Christian ideology declines there will come about disunity and disharmony in your families, in any group or organization.

Then there's a great danger coming in America. You are more or less mixed, of course, but if in later days people of German origin and people of British descent -- if all those people become disharmonized, they will even fight against each other on the political base, and great conflict will come about and this nation will be shattered into pieces.

What is more threatening is the fact that there is Communist power undermining behind the scenes. Suppose one whole state is predominantly under the control of the Communist power, and then the whole state will come against the federal government and deny the federal government, and will not observe the law. Then great trouble will be created.

Not only the Communistic power but, as I said before, a group of a certain origin -- German origin or British origin, for instance -- would work that way. Then what would happen?

We are now at the point of life or death, in the Christian world, of course, and unless new ideology comes into being and seizes the leadership, then the decline in Christian ideology and the decline in the political system will come. We see now that Christian churches are almost empty. There is disharmony coming about in families. Among the young people there are many, many drug addicts. These are three of the gravest problems occurring in this nation, and who can stop them from developing further? Who can annihilate them? Can your government do it? Can the established churches do it? Can the educational system do it? We arrive at the conclusion that they can never do it.

Then that will have us draw another conclusion, that the United States is doomed; there's no way to survive. There will only remain the carcass of individualism. In people's eyes there will be no Godism, no concept of society, nation and the world. Then they are compelled to die away.

God blessed this nation not for the nation to be destroyed like this. Your forefathers made the ideology of the country a Christian ideology, a God-loving ideology. God's purpose of having blessed this nation was to have this nation work for the salvation of the whole world.

Then why is the Christianity in this nation declining like this? It is because the Christian people have not been able to accomplish their mission. If God is going to punish people at all, those who do not carry out their mission while assigned to that mission are the ones to be punished first.

There are many God-loving people in the democratic world, and Christianity is more responsible for that, but in less than twenty years' time Christianity is faced with decline. If there are deep thinkers, they will know that this nation -- this great nation is on the verge of life or death, and they would at least wish a group to come out to save this nation. And God would wish the same thing. But is there any such group in the Christian world now which can eliminate the defects in Christianity and set up a new tradition to save the world? No other group but our group, the Unification Church, can do the job, I strongly believe.

First of all, we must revolutionize and change the individualism deeply rooted in the people of the United States. Can we do the job? (Yes!) Secondly, we must be able to revolutionize our family life, and we must be able to change the families into the concept of new dimension. Is it possible? (Yes!) Can you save the drug addicts, and shift them into new personality and motivate them to work with us and save the world? Can we do that? (Yes!) Can we study, criticize, analyze and make an alternate plan for the political system and for the system working in every level of group and make the world out of the old? Yes, we can. But this cannot be done while we are willing to tread an easy way, but if we are ready to sacrifice ourselves and deny ourselves for the sake of God's will, we are able to do this.

However great atomic power may be and however great atomic power a nation may have, with that they cannot revolutionize the age. However strong a political system you may have, with that alone you cannot save the world. However strong economic power you have in this nation, with that alone this nation cannot save the world. You have the great power of sending rockets to reach the moon, but with that alone America cannot save the world.

We have the great enemy Satan, and with only these qualities you must come to your knees before Satan. We know too well that Satan is encroaching upon, almost seizing, hegemony over this nation. The dark flood of decadence and ruin is coming, and with what can we block the way, stop it from coming? Our project of Madison Square Garden is for that, to stop that from coming to occupy this nation. We must show the people of the United States and show the satanic power of Communism that we are here for the sake of God's will, and we will never be defeated by their power. We must let the people know that we are different individuals, our group is different from other churches, and transcending national boundaries we are here and we represent the whole world.

When we say we are different, we mean that we are 180 degrees different from the others, not only 90 percent or 90 degrees different from them, but we must be the whole 180 degrees different.

What makes us different 180 degrees from them? Before joining the Unification Church you had been individualistic, I know. Isn't that true? (Yes!) But how do you find yourselves now? You are living with the concept of the salvation of all mankind. There's a vast difference from what you used to be. What about those who have been drug addicts, or at least hippie people? I can well name that kind of life to be the graveyard of living people. Everyone who has once at least used drugs, put up your hands. On the occasion when I asked American members alone, the majority of them had been drug users. When I assembled the 600 people who fasted and had prayer vigil in front of the Capitol here, if they had been asked if they had used drugs, almost all of them would have raised their hands. They are coming from disharmonious families. None of them were from other than Christian backgrounds. Almost all of them were from Christian backgrounds. But they entirely forgot about God and they didn't know the existence of God.

Here in the Unification Church we not only know the existence of God, but we understand His heart, God's heart. We are talking about God's heart. Can you see your heart? But you feel the heartbeat. You know the existence of your heart or mind. Well, by the same token you can feel and know the existence of God.

The heart is the life source of your whole body, so since we know the heart of God, we have the great power of changing the world, revolutionizing and making the world into a perfect one, the original intention of God. We are warriors in the battlefield fighting for the cause of God, and you must be awakened to the fact. So we are a different brood of people.

It is natural for us to work not for ourselves but for the people of the world. But is the environment prepared for us? In a sense, yes, because there is corruption coming about in every society, in every group or community, and it is sort of a prepared way for us to tread. Unlike the old days, at the worst we are being persecuted, but we don't have to be martyred in this world. Then we must be thankful for that. People will stare at you, but your whole body will repulse that. And you feel that God is helping you, and in that moment you will feel that you are already a victor. If you are soldiers on the battlefield and know the clear picture of your future success and victory, would you as the soldiers prefer to retreat? (No.) Then what would you do? Dash ahead and if you once there begin to push something you must push until it moves.

Compared to the vast project we are going to deal with, the island of Manhattan is small. The United States can be likened to the Roman Empire in Jesus' days. The city of New York is the city of Rome. But while in those days people, especially the Christian people, were martyred for the will of God, we don't have to be martyred. We must be grateful for that.

If you are awakened to that great mission and if you know the possibility of your being victorious, you must dash ahead on the road.

In the providence of God, what period will be the period in which God can concentrate on helping? Up to the present moment God's people have been in defensive positions, not offensive. History has never seen such a group as ours, and we are ready to dash onto the battlefield in the offensive position. We are greater than our predecessors, even greater than Jesus. We are going to do greater things than Jesus did, in his age. We are going to be mobilized in an all-out effort to win the goal at all costs, and we will bring about the last day when we enjoy the victory for God.

If in the Madison Square Garden campaign, we are able to bring more people than the capacity, then our victory will be great. Madison Square Garden will be the first step to the worldwide goal, and if we can make it a success, then the next step -- which will be the growth stage after the formation stage -- in the third and final stage, if we are successful, then the worldwide level of things will be started. If the seating capacity of Madison Square Garden is 20,000 people, would God have you serve the whole with even one person less than the capacity or even one person more than the capacity? (More!) That one person, that single person will either determine your failure or your success. Then every moment you meet one person, you must think that this person can make our project either a success or a failure. If you feel that urgency when you meet a single person, thinking that you can determine whether or not our project will be successful, then you are sure to win the heart of that man and bring him into the hall. So every single person is that important.

Of course God will have you win even a single person more than the capacity, but God is greedy enough to have you not win just one more but a much greater number of people than the capacity.

When you have seen other groups assemble so many people, a vast audience, we must surpass them, bringing a greater number of people than those groups. If God is on our side, wouldn't God be cheering us on to meet that goal? Win one more man is our first target. Again, you must feel the urgency of bringing one more person, every time. Would you want to have Madison Square Garden just full of people and have a good atmosphere for Father to speak

before them, or would you rather have the people overflowing -- that there are so many people who have to go home or linger around the place? The people will be such anxiety to come into the hall that the walls would be torn down and people's glasses would be broken. Would you want to have that happen? (Yes!)

What if that crowd of people just would fight to come into the hall and some hundred people were killed in that accident, trampled and killed -- then would the media be against us and defame us? (No!) Then would God punish me, saying, "You killed 100 people in Madison Square Garden and I must punish you for that"? Would God say that? (No!) Well, if those two things are the alternative choice for you, would you rather have so many people killed and in that way grant that success be yours, or just have fewer people in a calmer atmosphere? Which is your choice? (More!) Then would that mean you would like to have people killed? (Yes! No!) Then you are not good people.

In our concept, the definition of good and evil is different from ordinary ones.

Well, some of you may think I'm greater than Napoleon, who conquered the nations on the external base. On the spiritual level, what I have done has been to gain over satanic power for the victory. In the fight casualties are naturally coming, and God will praise me, as a victor not scold me or punish me for that. God would not have me rest a single moment. Then would you like to have me wanting you to rest, or just drive you hard on the road? (Hard!) The harder you work, the shorter the period will be and the greater the crops will be. If three times as many people as the capacity of Madison Square Garden would come this time, we would immediately plan on the next step of assembling in Yankee Stadium. That is going to be our second step on the worldwide base. And the third step is five times 20,000 people. You know, God is having the people repair the Yankee Stadium; now it is in the process of being repaired. That is being done for ourselves, for us. Our third step will be half a million audience somewhere. Billy Graham went to Korea, assembling half a million people, so we must do more than that. You must be resolved. He did that in Korea, and I am going to do this in the United States.

When you clap your hands, do you do this? Or this? And in clapping, you must clap the hands clasped like this, tight. Either horizontally or vertically, when you work side by side with the other members, when you work with Father like this, your fist must be made so strong as to be able, you know, to tear down the Empire State Building, the Pan American Building and all the skyscrapers. If all of you are united into one fist like this, I will be the one who will use the fist. I will either throw the fist or kick it out at the target. Then whatever thing the fist meets will be broken down. This is not a joke. I am really serious. And if only you are united, I have the means to do it. Would you prefer to do that? Or just sit still with folded hands enjoying what you have so far gained? Of course I know you want to be united and be a strong and do the job in the shortest possible time. In that case, whom do you resemble? You resemble God. Next you resemble me, maybe, and then you will have invincible power with untold energy. Then the United States will see she is being changed by our power, in the future.

You are already seeing the difference in our campaign, the difference between last year's campaign and this year's. And I stopped by the office in Manhattan yesterday and found that statistics show that a vast number of people everyday asking for more tickets, more tickets, by tens and hundreds.

The mode or fashion of the United States is prevailing -- spreading out to the whole country from New York in the whole world. And in that New York City the Unification Church has become a household word. If not yet, we are going to make it possible. What is taking place in New York City is known in every corner of the world, and if New York City knows our movement and what we are doing is conspicuous in that scene here we will be known to all corners of the world.

Sometimes you may say, "Well, God's will is important, but if we do this, it will be too much and maybe it will arouse some negative controversy rather than good. " But don't be afraid of it. If our project in Madison Square Garden is successful, even at the cost of the lives of the people, then the whole city of New York cannot deny our existence, and the whole country of the United States cannot but recognize our movement.

We have worked barely less than three years in New York. But has there ever been such a person who has become so well known in less than three years' time, having spoken first in Lincoln Center, then Carnegie Hall, and then all of a sudden in Madison Square Garden? Is there anyone like that? Then from now on people will associate the name of the Unification Church with Madison Square Garden. Then in the future when I send out more missionaries to more nations, when you arrive in those nations you will find people always knowing you when you say you are from the Unification Church. They will say," Oh, your Master had the speech in Madison Square Garden with great success." They will know, and it will make your work easier in that country.

We have established the highest record of having pasted 720 posters at one place. Even that will give people the impression of our Unification Church and they will remember the Unification Church, "Ah, that church whose people pasted 720 posters in one place." Then everything will be known through the media, and then you will have a whole scrapbook of what you have done, to go to other lands as missionaries. And through your embassy in that country you can work out the channel to reach the policymakers of the nation including the presidents of the nations. Then you can tell them that before long a troop of international mobile teams consisting of 1,000 young men will come that nation, and they will be delighted and will be ready to receive them. In that case, you are working as the secret ambassador of the heavenly will. And we are now paving the way here.

In name and reality, we are going to advance forward on the road of our third seven-year course, which is going to be worldwide level. When missionaries step into new lands, people will be skeptical about them, and if you show them your scrapbook of our activities, they will immediately recognize our movement. Can you buy that kind of thing with money? (No.) Only our effort can do it, and at all costs we must make our Madison Square Garden campaign a success and it will pave the way in many ways.

Each one of you must think that you are the person without whom the Madison Square Garden project cannot be a success. And I want you to write down in your diary what you have done in detail. In later days your descendants will read the diary and will be anxious to visit New York. They would visit every area in the street and in the back roads as described in your diary in order to tread the road you have gone. Suppose the diary says that in Times Square, you were rejected by so many people that in front of a certain building you embraced a certain electric pole and wept, sobbed, cried for help from God. And what would happen when your descendants read the diary? Then your descendants would come to that very place and pray before that electric pole.

It doesn't have to take a great, famous person to do the job. Suppose a small girl from Holland did that great thing, an unknown person from England or Italy or elsewhere, did the Job? It will become more sensational. And the more difficulties you go through, the more enthusiastic people will be who read about the stories.

So you must be ready to fight a fierce battle, and the fiercer the battle is, the better. If you are going out on the battlefield at all, would you start your day frowning and in reluctance, or would you dash out

with a smiling face? Your battle must be fierce one. Would you rather fight eating one meal or three meals? (One.) Would you rather fight sleeping many hours or less? (Less.) Would you fight running on the road, or just walking on the road? (Running.)

What I'm telling you to do is what all the American young people hate to do. Are you ready to like what all other people dislike doing? (Yes!) Then the problem is great. Then a great revolution will come and a great way is going to opened. The new way in the providence of God will be paved, by you, at this very moment. Then are you serious or not? (Yes!) You must run instead of walking, and you must visit every comer of the city. Those who think you can do it, hold up your hands. I want you to raise your hands at once, not doing this and that, this way. Hold up your hands if you are ready to do that.

The time we are in corresponds to Jesus' day, and but for our help and our doing this, nobody else can do that. So I want you to be serious and work hard for the campaign this time. By us and through us it will be possible to liberate the nation of the United States, liberate the democratic world, and liberate even God. We must mobilize our whole effort for this project and dash on for the goal.

The Providence Of God In Relation To The Human Viewpoint

First of all, I think I owe you an apology. This is sort of a vacation season when everybody goes to the mountains, and the lakes, for fishing and so forth. But you people came to this small room and squeezed yourself in, sweating for five days. This is in itself a great accomplishment. I'm sure most of you have a backache by now, because your way of life is not like our oriental way of life. You are not accustomed to sitting on a hall floor. I'm particularly sympathetic to our women, because I think men could sustain better, but I might have greater concern for some of our lady members than the men, because your patience may be running out. In your heart, you may ask yourself: "Is this the Unification Church way?"

I consider the most precious time in human life when you are still meditating and forming yourself within your mother's womb. While you are in the mother's womb that is the most critical and important period because that's the time you really create yourself: your limbs, your face, your beauty, and the whole formation of your body takes place in your mother's womb. And, as you know, a mother's womb is a very narrow place. Everyone is learning how to pray while in their mother's womb. You know while the baby stays in its mother's womb, it's in the prayer position: its hands in front, and bending a little forward. In this way its prayer position takes form in its mother's womb. So I want to consider this room in a universal sense as a mother's womb. The most important creation is taking place in this narrow, very hot, humid place. Yet, this is the place where the princes and the princesses of the New Age will be born: this is the mother's womb of the universe. Whatever harvest should come to you from this time on, I do not worry because you've been tested, you've been seasoned, and you've been hardened by the most critical and adverse conditions in the training period. Therefore, I'm confident that all of you will walk very proudly and independently in order to serve the purpose. So, do you have that same confidence? (Yes.) For that I am going to trust you.

The word "Hananim" means God. In the literal translation of Hananim -- "hana" means "one" and "nim" means a respectful term such as " sir. " What is the will of God? What is God's providence? Some years ago, I invited a famous theologian, a university professor, to come to our seminar in a training center, as I gave a lecture. After the lecture, the professor asked me a question, and one of our members asked him, "Do you know what the will of God is?" He mulled over the question and then shook his head and said, "Well, that question sounds very easy, but I find it very difficult to answer. " This man, a famous theologian, could not define the will of God.

Then how can Christianity be perfect under those circumstances? In ignorance there is no perfection. Then if that same question was directed to you young people of our church, what would you answer? [From audience: "God's will is to lay a foundation for the Kingdom of God here on Earth, the fulfillment of the three blessings bestowed on mankind in Genesis. When that's accomplished, both God and man will live. . ."I want the answer in one word-that's too long. In one word, what is the will of God? That is the realization of God's ideal. And what is the ideal of God? The perfection of man and woman so that they can realize the love of God-that is the will of God: the realization of God's love. The true realization of man's perfection in Adam and Eve and through them, from generation to generation -that is the will of God. That's 100 points in an examination. You can find no better word.

Was that will accomplished? That will was not accomplished. What must we do to realize God's will? God must re-create a new man and new woman. And is there such a person-a re-created man and a re-created woman? In a fallen generation, there is no such person in whom we can find perfection, because of the fall of man. It has been the work of God to restore this fallen generation step by step into the ultimate perfection of man. This has been the meaning of history.

You know very well from the study of the Divine Principle, that God started to bring the fallen generation into the servant level, then adopted son level, then true sons and daughters level-step by step. Then he is to become elevated into the True Parent position. This has been the process of history. This is the work of salvation and the providence of salvation and of restoration. It is more logical to know that God, from the moment of the fall of man, mobilized all the energy and resources that He could muster, in order to restore man from the position of enemy to servant, servant to adopted son, adopted son to true sons and daughters, and then up to the True Parent position. From the central position, you will expand step by step. This has been the way God has been working. And, as I said, all resources God could find were mobilized.

Many kinds of religions were mobilized. Some religions were equivalent to external religions and some played an internal role. So, there are external religions and internal religions. The central religion has to have an origin much deeper than external religion: in other words, the central one, which has to play the major role has to germinate before anything else. For example, the schoolteacher should be born before the students.

So there should be one central religion for all of God's work in order to originate the very movement that God intended for His work of restoration. To follow through the traditions in playing the role of central providence, there must be such a religion. In ancient days, indeed, Judaism played the major role when Israel was the central focus of God's providence. It originated in God and followed through to find God's Word and will, and further developed down into the modem-day religion. The central religion, since it is the central point of the universe, could not be shaky. Therefore, it has been tested and tried under adverse conditions, still preserving that old traditional sense of role. While all other religions come and go, that particular central religion must endure until the very last one of the accomplishments of the providence of God. That was the will of God.

When you evaluate value, what is real and what is fake? What are the differences between the false and true? The chosen people of Israel have been shown that particular central role of God's providence. They have been tested and tried, but their origin was so true! They've been preserving the tradition. And therefore, the chosen people cannot be changed. I mean that day and night, they must be the same. It must keep the same quality, whether in joy or in sorrow. God wanted to preserve such people.

So when you look at Jewish history, it is the history of one misery after another. However, we can also see the evidence and witness that God has been working through the people constantly, and without ceasing. God is slowly but surely making this one people progress to establish the one sovereignty, one nation, that He can occupy and control.

The chosen people of Israel were in a position to represent the entire universe. They were to represent every man on the face of the earth, including the baby in the mother's womb, and all people outside. They should be representative of all universal qualities. Then, what would God want to do next? When finally the moment of truth comes, when the Messiah was born in that particular nation and to that particular people, then the Messiah must find people of a corresponding level. When he was in his childhood, he must find people of his own age or level. When he was grown up, he should find the corresponding grown-ups that he could walk with, and so forth.

So actually the chosen people of Israel were then being trained in piety for preparation for the one day when one man, the Messiah would be born. When the Messiah was born every component of the chosen nation of Israel was fulfilling their particular mission, in a different role. So eventually what will God desire to do? God was seeking one unchanged, perfected sovereignty that would last forevermore. That kind of sovereignty or nation centered around the Messiah was God's intention. If that became true, then that one nation centered around the Messiah would be an invincible force--even the Roman Empire could not do anything to stop this one rock foundation of God. Anything that hit and attacked this one solid foundation of God would be broken into pieces. But that was not done.

Why did a savior come? Because there was a gap between God's providence and human understanding or man's viewpoint. There was a wide gap. And the Israeli people were looking for the Messiah, in the form of a military conqueror. They wanted the Messiah to bring his own nation into world greatness, so they could enjoy power.

But they forgot one thing: the first job for the Messiah to do is to re-create and change that people, molding them into a new format. This the people did not understand. The people couldn't accept it; they revolted against the Messiah. The Messiah began to undertake the very first re-creation of man. In other words, all men, once they found out the appearance of the Messiah, must take the position of almost blind loyalty and obedience to the Messiah, and they all should accept the one will of the Messiah. This was a quality God was seeking among the chosen people, and they did not know it.

Now the Messiah did come to set the fire of revolution first, but the chosen people of Israel forgot the most important thing: the Messiah did come for revolution. The revolution, however, was not in the external sense, but in the internal sense: the revolution of man. But they could not accept the revolution. They only sought vain glory. Indeed, Jesus came for the revolution; he initiated the revolution. But that revolution could not kindle the hearts of the people. Therefore, the people who resisted and would not accept those revolutions were slaughtered and destroyed. Israel was no more and the historical tradition was gone.

Only the handful of people regarded at that time almost as outcasts followed Jesus Christ, to launch the war against Satan. These were the disciples of Jesus. Those early Christians who followed Jesus Christ after His resurrection, truly risked their lives and gave them up. And they never hesitated to make any sacrifice for the purpose of carrying on the torch that was kindled by Jesus. So Christianity took up the mission of bringing the internal revolution of Jesus into external translation-so it will translate into human life. That was the purpose of Christianity.

Therefore, indeed, Christianity has taken up the role of the central religion of all the religions of the world. And Christianity went through tremendous persecution, trials, tribulations, difficulties, and many deaths. Christianity had to follow Christ facing adverse conditions, animosity and enemies on the individual level, family level, society level, tribal level, national level, and even in the Roman Empire. But eventually the war against the Roman Empire succeeded. It collapsed in front of Jesus' army.

The reality of history, how Christianity itself has won out, is the most vivid evidence and witness to me that there is a living God. Why? Think of it! Jesus was crucified at the age of 33. He was almost unknown, uneducated, in the eyes of the people. And he was regarded as a traitor by his own people. Jesus' circumstances in his own lifetime were miserable. At the moment of his death, he had no friends. Even his own disciples betrayed him. His family members betrayed him and turned against him. So actually, he was really the most miserable, defeated person under the sun. Would you think he could come back to life and change history? At the moment of the miserable death of Jesus, would anybody think that that man by dying could turn the world upside down? Could you assume that even the Roman Empire would collapse in front of him?

Yes, among you, there are many people between the ages of 30 and 33. Think of it! Would your death turn this world upside down? You wouldn't think so. But when you see that God is clearly on your side, 100 percent, then that is very possible, because God is almighty, unchanging and everlasting. The history of Christianity is not the work of one man, Jesus, but is a work of God. God by His power alone, can raise Christianity from death and bring it out into the world. It's a miracle of miracles that one man age 33, who died miserably, left the greatest of all revolutions in succeeding generations up to this point. So this one thing alone is most vivid, eloquent evidence that God is a living God, and that He is alive.

Then, why? Why did the Almighty God develop Christianity up to this point? What's His purpose? Because He has His own will, He wants to fulfill His own will. He has His own mind. And what is accomplishing the will of God? The will of God is the realization of the ideal of God. Then, in order to fulfill His ideal, God must find one ideal man, a man of perfection. He must find one ideal woman. He must find such a man and such a woman in the universe. When you know this much-that the will of God is ideal -then it's most natural!

You will find in the book of Revelation, the most eloquent descriptions of the Second Coming, and the concept of the bride and bridegroom. God wanted to see the Marriage Supper of the Lamb fulfilled. God wanted to give out His love, but where would God want to give that love? As Christianity has generally thought, we just go up into Heaven in the mid-air or somewhere. But no, God wanted to pour that love right here, on earth, because this is the very earth upon which God intended the fulfillment of His ideal. Most world religions have a concept of a Second Coming, but vaguely, in many cases. But Christianity has this concept of the Second Coming crystal clear. It hits the point.

Then, just what else does man want? All men have a desire to be a very important, essential person in the universe. And when you say man, there are two different types, male and female. Then what does a woman want? A woman wants to became a perfect person. A man wants to become a perfect person. They both want to become a perfect person. And, a man wants a perfect woman, and a woman wants a perfect man. A perfect man wants to meet a perfect woman. No man wants another man! A man wants a woman; a woman wants a man, a perfect man, no question about it. Do you think that God did not know that? Automatically, God knows that perfect man cannot sustain himself alone.

In this universe, can we see any perfect man? The perfect become very ugly for us. What is the highest goal of man? To reach up to man? No, not quite! Alone, perfect man cannot sustain history and joy cannot follow. So God needs the reciprocal relationship. This is where the joy comes from. This is where love can be realized. So perfect man must be complemented by perfect woman.

Put yourself into God's position: I'm sure you must think that way. In our feeble human wisdom, we can think that far. To think of it, still, the perfect wisdom of God, can't we think that far? There's no other answer that God can come up with. This is the answer. The ideal of God can only be realized upon the perfection of men and women. This is the answer, this is the ultimate goal. Then when you read the Bible, the Bible corresponds to this ultimate goal. It's calling and bearing witness to that ultimate goal. So it must be the truth. So it will fit perfectly to the mind of God, and it fits perfectly to our human reasoning. So, don't you want to see men of perfection? Then, how about God? Yes, God wanted to see perfect man.

In the Garden of Eden, before Cain slew Abel, he had a mind and an ambition to kill his brother. If he could overcome that particular ambition, that crime would not have occurred. But he did not know the consequences of that particular crime. No, he did not even have the slightest idea. Noah's second son, Ham, when he discovered his father naked, drunk, and sleeping, and covered the body of his father, did not have even the slightest idea what kind of awful consequences he was inviting. When Abraham overlooked the birds, without cutting them, he did not realize what kind of consequences he was inviting. When Moses struck the rock twice, by his rod, he didn't even have the slightest idea what kind of consequences he was inviting. There is no doubt that John the Baptist, even after he bore witness to Jesus Christ as the son of God, did not know what kind of tragedy he was inviting for his own people and the world by not following him.

All these things looked trivial and small, but these things were determining factors in history. And today's Christian world does not know. Because they turn against the Unification Church, they are going into ruin, they are going down the drain into the ditch. They did not know. They might say, "Well, only Reverend Moon will say that. We aren't going to accept it." But you wait and see what will happen.

Now, by the same token, we are gathered in this room today. Without knowing the historical significance of the day, we might not feel too serious about this occasion. But you will see! History will tell you that this was a real historical moment, the turning point for the nation of America, and the many nations of the world.

It could be possible, if we bring the victory in our forthcoming endeavor, the New York Crusade, that we shall go on the victorious path towards the ultimate victory of God. However, if you bring failure this time we will never know what kind of misery we are inviting. World history will record this day and your subsequent work in New York City for the Madison Square Garden Crusade. Now, this is the time when we must turn New York upside down and fight side up! The destiny of three billion people of the world hinges upon our shoulders and on what you do in the next couple of weeks.

We do have determination and the world and the destiny of the people is on our shoulders. But you must know that the time has arrived! We must have determination. We must demonstrate that conviction in the forthcoming weeks. Can you understand the seriousness? Nobody can have the power to deny that this is the moment, the crossing-point of human history. So, when I see this reality, this is the most serious moment of truth. The showdown is coming, you know, inch by inch, so you can imagine how serious I am.

I am mobilizing every ounce of energy of the Unification Church that I can muster. Some of you do not even have a serious attitude, and even doubt me. But while you are doing that, there are the thousands and thousands of members in Japan and Korea fasting and really almost giving up their life to commit themselves to the limit of their life, in prayer for this crusade. You are the frontline soldiers. Then your job is to live up to their expectations, and do more!

So, do not become a person that says, "I did not know!" Now you know! It's a very mysterious moment, one that you never even dreamed of, never even thought of! That is-in a way-the "great and terrible day of the Lord" at your hands. There is no chance to "do over," only once. One word, every action, everything you do-there is no second chance. So you must attach yourself fully to your center, and you must turn.

Internally, we are in an ideological battle. In seven Western states, the Communist party is now organizing seven state rallies. We are rallying for a God-believing ideology on the East coast of the United States. When we put up our posters, the Communists take them off. Then I told our people, "Do not lag behind them. " In other words, be aggressive! If they rip off one poster, put up ten! The battle has been well-fought already by our young people, the members of the New York Church. Now, you're joining the rest as frontline soldiers. I do not want you to discourage them; but you must give them encouragement so that they can even be uplifted. They've been doing a good job.

You have the name: The International One World Crusade. In fact I have been proud of the One World Crusade and say so at every opportunity I can get! And, therefore, the New York members of our Church are trembling in a way. "Well, the Intentional One World Crusade is coming to our city? What can we do? We must not be behind them!" Now, have you the resolve to win over them? If they woke up at four o'clock in the morning, what would you do? (Get up at three!) If they got up at two o'clock in the morning, what would you do? (Get tip at one!) If they got up at 12 o'clock, what would you do? (Not go to bed!!!) If they don't sleep, what would you do? (We wouldn't want to sleep!!!)

Then I want to ask the New York members, would you be behind them? Would you be defeated? (No?) Now, International IOWC'S, "Will you win, or will you be defeated?" You outnumber them. You know, they are small in numbers and you have much bigger numbers. You already have that advantage. But you never know, not until the showdown is made. You know, it's like two legs, the New York family and the International One World Crusade. Which would you choose, right or left? (Right!) But New York already took the right side so there is only one left. So we will see which side will be stronger, which will be the cripple. What I really want is two strong men, so that we can really win the victory.

Now, finally, we come to the moment for setting the slogan or motto. The slogan is "I didn't know." In ancient times, our ancestors failed because they didn't know. Now, we're winning because we are so overwhelmed, for we didn't know that this was such a wonderful moment. We didn't know it. In other words, this particular slogan was an excuse for the failure of our ancestors. But we are making that very excuse a point of success in our time. So, all these people ahead of us used it as an excuse, and they were always saying, "We didn't know. " But, this time, we didn't know it was such a great mission. Because we didn't know, now we know we will win. So you are the subject. Each one of you is the champion, the forerunner in kindling this internal revolution of man.

So, what shall we do with New York? New York will become our dough, dough as in baking bread. We'll eat it up. New York will be our dough and we will mold it into beautiful biscuits and eat them one by one. So, everyone is determined, right? Raise your hand for determination. I said beautiful twice because one is for internal beauty, and one for external beauty.

Throughout history from man's viewpoint, the excuse always was, "We didn't know the providence of God!" Small, trivial things, bring such important consequences. "We didn't know!" they said. However, compared to those trivial things in which our ancestors in biblical history failed, Madison Square Garden is a gigantic occasion. So you can see, a small bird can bring such misery. Striking the rock twice brought such misery. Now, how much more so if we do not do God's job right at Madison Square Garden, it will have universal consequences.

Look at your palms. This hand now becomes God's hand. They can touch in His name and do things for His work. This eye will see His things. This body will be invested for His work. We are living in such great times. Let's make our resolution once again at this historical moment. The great time and hour has arrived. And our chance is here at hand. So, what you do and how much you fulfill your responsibility shall enter into the course of history and the destiny of mankind. Therefore, today, I spoke on, "The Providence of God in Relation to the Human Viewpoint. "

Have you eaten tuna fish? No? I bought two giant tuna fish, one for internal revolution and one for external revolution. I feel happy to see your smiling, glowing faces, and also your applause. It is such a powerful, energetic applause. Now that gives me assurance that you will fulfill your promise. So, I'm very happy, because you will make me happy. Thank you very much. Our Hope

Everyone has some kind of hope for the future. We want this hope to be fulfilled on the national and worldwide level. When you study as a young person, it is to fulfill your hope. Your hope is to distinguish yourself to the world. Everything you do is to fulfill your inner hope. Your hope is to climb up the ladder higher and higher until you reach a worldwide scale.

Suppose you could become president of a nation. You would plan the number of years you would have to work to become president. You would realize, in a democratic society like America, "I have to set up a foundation to win many votes from the public. " It is not so easy, is it? Many men may have ambition to be the president of a nation, and even some women may have the same ambition. However, very few women have become a president or head of state up to this point. In India and in Brazil, the prime ministers have been women; but they are among the very few. When you consider this, where do women fit in? Even though you women have been inferior in certain areas to men, your hope is not to be inferior, not to be behind men in accomplishment.

Imagine that you have become the president of a democratic nation. You will serve in the presidency only four years. In a democratic society like America, at the most you will serve eight years. During the eight years in office you would have a great voice; but after eight years you would suddenly become a citizen with no power to exercise. Once in a high position, nobody wants to come down, but this is a reality in this system. When you are on top, do you not want to stay there? After being president of a great nation, a man then has nothing to do but wait for his death. There is no value in that.

Suppose you are a great scholar in the world, having won several Nobel Prizes. What would it mean to you? What is lacking? After receiving the prize, what is left? You have to continue research in your field. Then, even if you win 100 Nobel Prizes, what does it mean? You are waiting for death. Even if you continue your work, teaching in a big, renowned university, what does it mean? Where is the value? You are breathing chalk dust and working hard, but what does it mean, really? What does it mean?

Then even when this kind of hope is realized, you have nothing, and no place to go. You are still not satisfied. At the most, the renowned Nobel Prize winner ends up as a teacher or professor at a university before his death. Even a great achiever in the academic circle does not necessarily have a happy family. Some surveys show that women do not necessarily want to marry great professors. They have no time to love their wives, but are slaves to their own study. Women would not like this. So what is the happiness there?

Also, another fact is that the majority of the sons and daughters of renowned professors do not measure up to the academic standing their parents have. Why is that? Many children don't like to repeat their parents' accomplishments. Sons of great people do not always recognize their parents' accomplishments. They don't follow them. This is an ironical situation. In that situation, no happiness can be found.

Then the question is, what is our true hope? Even if our hope in the secular world is realized, after that, we only decrease instead of increasing. Our Father thought this through at a young age. He is very smart, so that if he wanted to distinguish himself in academic circles he would have done quite well. He determined once to receive three doctorate degrees. Then he thought, "After that, what am I going to do? What am IT' Then he came to the conclusion, as he explained to you, the big degrees have no real meaning or value. Then what is the most valuable thing for man? That is the crucial point we have to discuss.

It is not the political power. It is not knowledge. What is it? (Love.) You answered very well. It is love. We have to admit this unanimously, absolutely. What is the origin of love? (God.) Yes, in one sense you are right, but that is a little vague or ambiguous. Is love to be given or is it to be received? (Both.) Which is the starting point, to give and or receive? (Give.) The starting point should be either one of them, but not both at the same time. Here we have a fundamental question to answer.

Is it love to give, or is it love to receive? You have to decide. Does love belong to me, or to others? If love belongs to you eternally, you don't have to strive to possess it. Then the question arises, to whom does love belong? Do you think love belongs to you individually? Then if it is not mine, why do I need this love? Even though it does not belong to me, why must I risk my life or even die for this love?

After risking your lives, if you found love, what are you going to do with it. (Give.) This is widely unknown. Most people do not understand. There is no clear direction on the concept of love. We can see no clear trunk, no branches, no leaves of the tree. Historically we have to find out the source of love. Is it from me? From others? The cause of love can not be me. Love must come from another source. When you narrow down this concept, doing research upon research, what conclusion do we reach? If we trace the cause of love back to its origin, we will end up at the time of creation, with our ancestors Adam and Eve.

We could ask our grandparents, even Adam and Eve, where does love come from? Adam and Eve will not say, "This love is from us. " They cannot say that. Love comes from somewhere other than from within Adam and Eve. Can this source be flexible, sometimes coming from the South, North, East or West? No, it should come from one direction. We don't want multi-directional love. We desire one directional love -- never changing, persistent, everlasting love. That should be the characteristic of love.

Now, what is the origin of love? When we experience love, we don't want that love to come from a source inferior to ourselves. No, everyone wants to receive love from a superior source. Is it true? Why? Even though a girl is not beautiful, she wants to have a husband far more handsome, far greater than herself. We want to develop our love on an increasingly higher level. Is it true? You would like your partner to be better than yourself. This would mean that the love you receive comes from a higher source than yourself.

Then the source of love for Adam and Eve should be superior, higher than those two beings. It should come from the highest source. How great the love must be-eternal, unchanging. Then we realize that there must be an absolute being, from which love originated. If we do not understand this absolute source of love, our love would always be changing, unstable, insecure.

So men have to reach the conclusion: even if there is no God, we have to set up an absolute being from which love originated. Otherwise, we cannot set up the theory. We cannot set up the direction. Even if there is no such a being, we must set up a hypothetical situation. Then we have to find the truth. Peace and security, assurance, all wonderful elements, will come from that absolute source. Even if we just assume God is wonderful but, if we found that there really is an absolute source of love, how much more wonderful it is. How amazing it would be if we actually found the source from which love comes.

If you have such conviction, what a wonderful thing. If you have found the origin of all love, then everything else will come to you. We will be the happiest person when we find such a being. You cannot even comprehend the value of finding such an invaluable being. We cannot trade this finding for the American continent. We cannot exchange it for the whole universe. If you see the sun, the sun becomes itself a source of love. Don't you think so? We have to think of the love from God, the absolute being. Have you ever thought about these things? You have not been serious.

You have been experiencing animalized love, not necessarily love from God. You have been looking for instinctive love, male and female. chasing each other to love. There is a vast difference between instinctive love, and love originating from God. Everybody wants the latter. This is human thinking and beyond. You searched for love from the absolute being. Then you concluded: this is it; this must be it. After you found it you might grow into higher and higher levels of love until you dwell in the highest realm. Would you like to marry with God's blessing in heavenly love? (Yes.) You have been engaging in instinctive, animal-like love up to the present, before the Unification Church. You never thought about God and His love.

Have you ever thought about that pure traditional love, unspoiled love from God? In this world impure instinctual love., and God's love are rather mixed up. When they consider the confusion and complexity of love, really good-thinking people want to escape this kind of love. They have to even stop thinking of this kind of love. Have you ever thought about this? So Father is saying that in this complex and confused situation, sometimes you must have fought to get away from love affairs.

The man or woman who ever thought, "I want to live a pure life and get away from this impure world," can be a great person. Saint Paul was one of these. He had logical ground on which he set up his attitude of celibacy. He is great in that sense. If he had no strong grounds for this concept, nobody could understand him.

The next thought we have is that, if Adam and Eve had shared ideal love from God and had become the ideal husband and wife, what would have happened? Suppose you yourself are within the scope of ideal love. Then to whom does this love belong? It neither belongs to me, nor to my partner. Then does that love belong to God? Even God cannot have love without an object. So without man, God cannot consummate His love. Even God, the cause of love, without man as His object, cannot possess love. Even God cannot claim that the love belongs to Him.

Love causes a subject and object to be united into one. That is the heavenly definition of love. Love is eternal and unchanging. Why? Because cause and effect can be united into one through love. The power of love make the two, subject and object, one so that love is even greater than God. Can you understand? The absolute God has to search for love. He has to come here. Absolutely, God with all His love, needs man on earth. Are you that kind of object to God's love? You will be.

When we realize this, we feel the happiness within ourselves. Without this understanding, happiness is impossible. Imagine, God is happy because of love. Adam and Eve are happy together; Adam and Eve with God are happy. This is the happiest occasion we could imagine when love operates. Then God and Adam and Eve in love would be dancing all day, eternally turning around. The ideal world is a world intoxicated with love, dancing, and singing-all joy. That's the ideal earth.

Now Father has explained the real meaning of love. You are happy to listen and you are responding, you are clapping now. Is it true? Love is the greatest thing in the universe. Love makes God weep sometimes, and lets Him laugh; love makes Adam and Eve weep or laugh together also. Love makes all kinds of things possible. It is the same with you. If you have love, you are happy. If love is gone, you are sad; you are miserable; you are sorrowful. Then heavenly joy is what we seek.

So many people say: "Please, love me, stay with me." Nobody says, "Love, get away, depart from me." Everybody knows the simple truth. All mankind wants love to stay eternally, continuously. God is the source of love, and He is eternal, unchanging. Therefore love which comes from God should be unchanging, eternal. We can think of love existing along two intersecting lines. There is vertical love and horizontal love. Similarly there are two kinds of people, in terms of personality: vertical and horizontal, two types.

In the family system, vertical love is represented by parents and children, horizontal love exists between the husband and wife, subject and object. Two kinds of love are necessary in the family. Why do we need, why do we desire children after marriage? Do you really want to have children after being blessed? Why? Because the source of the universe is composed of two loves, horizontal and vertical, so that you are instinctively looking for that. If you don't have offspring, you never experience vertical love. You have to feel this love. However, let's talk now about horizontal love.

Man needs woman; woman needs man. Why? It is a universal principle that we need to experience horizontal love. However, without a vertical element, horizontal love cannot be produced. Which is first, vertical or horizontal? We have to understand this. Vertical love is first love between parents and children. The second stage of love is horizontal. You have to clearly understand these two kinds love.

In America they say, "We don't need parents. We disregard parents. " Parents' have partial responsibility for this because they have failed in providing a true vertical relationship of love. That is why children deny their parents. If they had experienced real love (vertical love) within the family during the years before they married, American young people would not deny their parents. If they experienced true vertical love between parents and children, young people today would realize, "We cannot exchange the value of this love for anything."

Happiness of children cannot come without experiencing parental love. We cannot deny this fact, this principle. This is a fundamental principle in the family. So when you know this, you see that American society, the family system, should be revolutionized. Everyone talks about love on the horizontal plane. Since when has this been so in this country? Especially youth begin to deny their relationship with their parents when they reach the teen years, when they become aware of the opposite sex. Without experience of vertical love from the beginning, they are instinctively turning to horizontal love. But from the beginning there is a condition for the disconnection of one partner from the other because the source was wrong. Always horizontal means in the air, insecure, floating, vulnerable. Vertical is heaven and earth, quite stable.

From beginning to end, vertical love is straight. Parental love toward their children begins before the children were born. Which story of love is greater -horizontal or vertical? Before a baby is born, already love is involved. It has a longer history than any horizontal love. Which is greater? Which is more valuable? (Vertical.) Western civilization, including America, has not understood this concept. Horizontal love, without vertical love as its foundation cannot be maintained. The ideal situation cannot come about.

If we draw two lines, vertical and horizontal, a 90 degree angle will be set up. This creates a strong foundation. The vertical line is the key. Because Western civilization is based on the wrong foundation, it is at a dead end with no place to go. In that sense, Oriental concept and tradition has great value.

In Oriental tradition, even if you abandon your wife or husband, you cannot abandon parents. That is a strong concept. People of Western civilization, including America, say "My parents can die. I would rather have my wife, my husband, first. " That is the wrong idea. God, if He is there, is thinking as we do. He will want to see Western and Eastern tradition united into one. This is absolutely necessary.

Father experimented in Central Park, New York. Some senior citizens were together enjoying the sunshine. To him they looked sad, so he asked, "How do you feel about your children's going away and never even visiting?" they said, "Very sad.

Then he raised the question, "what do you think about the Oriental system in which parents are cared for and respected until their death?" They confessed that they would like to have that system. Even though you are young now, when your time comes you will be old too. Time does not stop for you. Do you want to become old and have no one visit you? To have your children reject you? Something is wrong in the family system in this world.

Misery came into this world, a deviation from God's original plan, at this point. That is why sadness, and unhappiness prevail. Relationships of love are distorted. If, like a spiritual doctor, we have found the cause of an illness we cannot abandon the patient. We have to cure him. Who is going to correct the situation? If we correct the situation, we must do it perfectly. If we do something wrong more trouble will result. From the beginning we have to plan our work closely.

Something has to be done based on the Principle, so that the whole world can be helped by this approach. It must be successful. That is why we need extensive research on the family system and societal system to correct the situation. Eventually we have to reform society anyway. This is one mission of the Unification Church. We must work to bring about reform based on logic, based on correct research.

We have said that love cannot exist without God, the Heavenly Father. Without God, we do not want love. Are you that way? Up to the present, you have not been. Since you came to the Unification Church, you have become this way. Does anyone object to. this? If we become intoxicated with divine love, what would happen? If you touched 250 volts of electricity, what would happen? You must almost be shocked to death. Then in terms of love what kind of voltage do you need-100 volts? a thousand? a million? How much do you need? One million, one billion volts more than strong power, we need love. The God of such great love is absolute and almighty, omniscient and omnipresent. Think of it, how wonderful He is. He is almighty. If we compare His power of love to electricity, billions of billions of volts of love will come from Him to us. If you touch this kind of love, comparable to such electrical power, you are more than dead.

The degree of happiness you feel when you receive this love, you cannot express in words. Do you understand? There is no death when you touch this kind of love. If this kind of love exists in the universe, don't you want to be a part of it? Then if you are, you are the happiest person in the universe. So man should live touched, intoxicated with love. Then you would be crazy about your job. Spiritually you would be intoxicated with your work, very much enthused. In this happy state, because you can experience such happiness, you would never use drugs or alcohol.

Think of it, two kinds of intoxication. One is the intoxication with eternity in the power of divine love. The other one is intoxication with wine and drugs. Which do you want? (Divine love.) Even taking heroin, opium, marijuana, all these things-you are intoxicated only temporally. After that, you have more problems. If you are drunken with the love of God, however, what would happen? With this JOY, filled with divine love, you would dance, even your eyes would dance, all your cells would dance, your whole body, everything. What is our hope? To receive divine love.

When you analyze more deeply, you understand that when we obtain God's love we are the happiest person in the universe. This is the ideal world, the ideal pattern God created in the beginning. If we share such a divine love when persecution comes, instead of being destroyed we will be more strongly united. In this way persecution makes unity more effective. In that light all problems will vanish.

If a wife sacrifices herself for her husband, then love will be deepened and strengthened and more joy results. Love will flourish when we love and serve others. That way the eternal maintenance of love is possible. Why? If you sacrifice yourself for others, you receive in turn more love. You are losing nothing. Do you understand?

It is true, that if we are going to create the ideal situation, we have to serve others. We have to sacrifice ourselves for the other person's sake. Love is for others, not for me. God exists for love of man; man exists for others, for God. So if you live this way, you are living according to God's principle. This is where love begins. Do you understand so far?

What is the Unification Church doing? Our church members are dashing into God's original realm. Where is God's love? This is the individual, family, nation, world and cosmos. God's vertical love will come down through all levels. So we should clearly understand what kind of love is God's vertical love. This love, vertical love, should appear on earth among men. It should be realized on the individual, family, tribal, state, national and world level.

By establishing this, the door is open, that four directions can meet in one central point. Four people from four directions can meet. When they meet what will happen? They will be united into one, with divine love, with love from God. When we are united through the divine love of God, nobody can separate us. When you reach that stage, you want it to continue. Right? Then if you are involved this way, you want to be involved more and more deeply.

Love, genuine love, is complete unity. Then when this exists, there will be no such thing as the fall. The fall of man took place before love, divine love, was fulfilled. When you reach the stage of divine love you are psychically and spiritually open. You don't need to receive any instruction. When this occurs, the love flows in four directions. When you are open spiritually, without going to the university, you know everything that is going on in the universe. You don't have to worry about gaining that knowledge.

What is the hope of the Unification Church for the individual? When we reach the stage of divine love we want to be united with the central point of that love. When you reach that point, God dwells with you. Our True Parents will be there. There, true brothers and sisters will be. There will exist a true family. The true tribes will exist. The true nation and the true world will exist at that point. That is the place where heaven and earth can be united. This can be called the ideal kingdom of heaven on earth. This is the hope of Unification Church members.

In the world, no such theory or principle was ever taught. Only the Unification Church has this truth. So even using common sense, when people ask the question, "What is love?" they don't know the definition of love. But you can study the principle and know 100 percent what love is. You have the power of love to lead even the Heavenly Father to come to you. Even the Heavenly Father, if you become His object, will come to you. God and everyone will come to you.

Then your ideal mate, your husband or wife-to-be, will automatically appear. So you don't have to worry about which one you would like to have. Automatically you will have him or her. You will see even in your dream or vision, the wife or husband God planned for you for your future family. This is the Principle. You will see this if you reach that stage. At the moment you are not that way. Is that true? You have a long way to go, because you are fallen; and you have fallen ancestors. You are the vessel, a container which should be perfect. But there is a crack in the vessel. Instead of pure water, there is foul, polluted water. First the crack must be patched, and then the water, the contents must be purified. Shall we gradually cleanse the dirt or suddenly? You have to work hard, push yourself with discipline to quickly purify the contents.

When you come to the Unification Church, it is sometimes hard to comprehend what is happening. We have a clear goal, a clear hope for the future. You now clearly understand what Father has said about this pyramid of love, based on four directions. Who will teach the real meaning of love to the whole world? Nobody except you can do that. Even though temporarily you are working very hard and not always happy, there is no other place except the Unification Church. You are in the right place. You are in the highest educational institution possible. You cannot trade what you have for Ph.D. degrees.

From his youth, Father knew this truth though he did not go through the processes of getting a Ph.D. He is scientific and logical. From his primary school days, Father raised all kinds of difficult questions to his teachers. So since the teacher could not answer satisfactorily, he had to explore the fundamental questions of the universe by himself. So he decided, I will be responsible. The most difficult problem in the universe, I will solve. I will realize the truth on earth. Then he felt, "If there is God He may need one who is thinking seriously of this kind of subject. " Therefore he appointed himself. You have to know this truth. The Unification Church began during his teenage years.

Wouldn't you like to be in the place where you meet God in divine love? That is the place where we would like to live eternally. It will become a reality if you persist. It is the place we are making right now. In this place fallen men have hope. We want to dwell in that place because the central figure is there, the Messiah.

In that place where the Messiah is living, all our ancestors, all the saints, and all mankind wanted to dwell, to live forever. After meeting him, what will we do? Eternally, we want to hold him and live with him forever. Why? We want to cling to the one from whom love comes.

In the place where you meet the Messiah, God will dance, intoxicated with love. You will meet everything you have wanted. Unification Church means to be united, and without unity we cannot exist. For this you will be trained. White, yellow, and black, Eastern, Western all together will be united into one human race. Is it easy to fulfill this kind of unification, unity among all people and races? It is very hard even for a husband and wife in this world to be united. Even parents and children are fighting one another. How can they be united in this world? A powerful force must be operating behind our attempt to make unification. Otherwise, we cannot accomplish it. Do you think it is possible without our True Parents?

When you have grown in divine love, you long for our True Parents, day and night. Where the central figure is, you want to live. That is the desire of individuals who are developing spiritually. Why? Because he is surrounded by the divine love of God. That is why you are attracted. When you are united in this love, no power can separate this love from us.

The happiest person is the person who has found divine love, even at the risk of death. That kind of a person can overcome death. He wants you to be crazy to reach divine love. This is our hope for the future. So the direction of the Unification Church is clear. You can sacrifice yourself, your family, your tribe, and your nation for divine love. You can sacrifice the whole world for divine love. Then you are the happiest person. Wherever you go, whatever you do, divine love follows. Representatives from 12 nations are here. We are fulfilling this hope right now.

You will be eventually blessed in holy marriage. Your children will be proud of you because of your pioneering work, based on divine love. You will be admired by your next generation. Beyond nationality we will establish a new tradition. We are the most happy people because we can know unchanging eternal love from God, centering on our True Parents.

Be determined to accomplish. For divine love, you would like to work hard, even to death. It is worthwhile for you to work hard to win divine love. This is the only way you can be connected to the eternal realm.

When we know this principle, there will be no room for complaint within ourselves. Knowing this, even when he was crawling in the cell of prison, Father never expressed or felt complaint toward heaven, because he felt divine love. This is a new tradition. He worried about the new tradition of divine love so he never complained. He felt, "My tears for mankind are more valuable than anything else. " He overcame the pain of his physical body through divine love.

Even up to the present, Heavenly Father had never met a person like him. In one sense, Heavenly Father must love him, our True Parent, more than anyone. This is the reason why he gives you this kind of training -- discipline and hard work. He wants you to be like him. So when you have difficulty, and hardships, you have to take them lightly, instead of complaining. If you overcome with great gratitude, you will grow. You can claim "I am centered on divine love. I am the master, the lord of divine love. " He wants you to be like the True Parents. This is our hope for the future.

This is an historical moment that we have waited for. All the members who have worked so hard in the regions are now gathered here in one place. About a year ago, you all gathered in Washington, D.C., and this is the first time since then. I hope and I believe that all anxieties and uneasiness have vanished away-the uneasiness and uncertainty you felt when you left your own countries a year and half ago.

I believe you have learned and experienced a lot since you left your nations. Some of you-I am afraid the majority of you-at first thought that it would be so difficult to work in this strange nation, and that you could have established more records in your own country. Didn't you feel that way at first? (No.) By saying no, you mean to please me, I think.

Whenever I think that I have driven you out on that kind of path, I sometimes feel that many people have been complaining against me behind my back. Isn't that true? Then I was wrong; I apologize. I am pleased to think that I was wrong. While experiencing so many things in your work here, the most important thing you have learned, I hope, is that this nation is the melting pot of all nations mingled together; so this is the place you can work for the divine mission.

There are so many other nations in this world, but it is almost strange that in this nation where people are transcending national boundaries, even though you may make quite a stir and you are almost turning the nation upside down, nobody objects against you, and no serious problems have so far happened. Could it have happened in Germany? (No.) If I placed you in France, what would have happened? If your stage was Italy, what can you imagine there? Can we stage you in England, in that sense? What about Japan -can you do the same? It sounds almost impossible elsewhere.

So I feel a kind of a sensational joy to have found a stage on the American continent to work; and I am proud of having brought you here for the work. I feel very brilliant for having brought the project here. You are responsible for the guidance of this nation, so you have been trained for that. By this time, you have the leadership, I hope, and you are continually going to be trained for that goal. You have been contacting many high-level people, many VIP's, and in doing that, you have trained yourself. You are now confident, I hope, to handle those people. Without your knowing, the leadership is solidly founded in yourselves.

On the worldwide base we have to lay the foundation and tradition of the Unification movement. So for the start, we have trained ourselves well in the United States. You know the blessing of the great training, you have had so far. That is, if you look at the members from France, you don't feel that they are Frenchmen, but you feel only that they are Unification members; and if you look at the Italians, you will say the same. They are not Italians, but Unification members. Isn't it so? You have done what the United Nations failed to do. If there is God at all, He must be proud of you, because in Him there is no national boundary.

God loves each one of you in that sense, and those whom God loves are all gathered here in this auditorium. This place is the focus of God's attention. Then what would you expect from God? God will concentrate on helping you, so these few days are going to be days of inspiration and renewed dedication. I have decided to have you go through training for five days, until the 22nd, without immediately going into the city of New York to work.

When you left your places, you didn't dream of having training. You fancied that upon your arrival here you would immediately go out into the city of New York and work hard, perspiring and shouting at the top of your voices. Up to this date you have been working on separate bases, so in order to get you unified, I have to mingle you together to learn from each other and go through the training from a different source. Do you feel the blessedness of having to go through the training here?

What is training after all? We are going through training in preparation for the days of campaigning to come, to study how to do the job. More than anything else, I have to train you under the Divine Principle, because although I know that your own commanders have been teaching you the Divine Principle, there could be a margin of difference. So I have to have all of you going through the same training in the same place. I am anxious to see the outcome and how much more advanced you will be after going through the session here. That means in order for me to know the outcome after five days of training, I will have you go through an examination. Your applause this time is not strong enough. Why is it so? Nobody likes examinations, I know. But you realize that the examination is necessary.

After training, each team will get an average grade, and there will be a citation for those who win the top level. The responsibilities of the commanders this time is to encourage you to study harder than other groups. Your responsibility is to study hard, while theirs is to encourage you to study hard. Then all the commanders will study hard on how to make you sleep less and work harder than other team members. Then you must say, "Oh, my commander has been pushing us so hard in the field! Now we are back here and he is pushing us hard. What is the matter with him?" You must not complain against him, because he is only anxious to have you win over others. Struggling, fighting -those things alone can make us attain the victory.

When you walk along the street, there are people who are just strolling and those who are making big strides or strutting on the way. We can see differences between those people. Every nation wants strong leadership. As leaders, you must not only be strong, but generous, kind, and capable. But when we are in the stage of construction or beginning, what we need is strong, dynamic leaders. So it may be a pity to you, but after having brought you here to this great arena, I am thinking of how to push you hard so that you can be trained in the shortest possible time. Then it means you are going to go through difficulty and hardship. But what you do here will be long remembered and recorded in your history and in the history of your own nation, because you are going to be leaders in your own nations when you go back there. Would you want to have nature just plain and monotonous, or would you prefer to have it have rises and a variety of contours? (Variety.) If you choose it to be monotonous, your songs will be just ah-ah-ah-ah. Would you like that kind of song?

When you are on the playground, too, you shouldn't prefer to just sit still and watch other people, but you must become champions in wrestling and fighting against the other team. So without complaining, you must feel challenge and excitement whenever you are pushed hard. Can you promise me? Then you promised not to complain against me, against your commander, or against your project here. So I am well pleased with you. Don't ever expect to be fed well, either. You may have expected to be fed with rich food here. I will feed you with meager food, because if I gave you rich food, your mind would be concentrated on the examination and you could not digest it well.

Well, let's go into the mainstream of my talk today, the title of which is "Central Value." There are many members gathered here, young and old, male and female. There is none, I think, who does not think he or she wants to become the central figure of the whole group. Just as in the case of the individual, any group may have to think the same way, to become the central group of all the rest of the groups. For a nation, too, the same thing applies. A certain nation must think that she wants to become the top-level nation of all the rest of the nations. Even evil people think the same way, and they want to become central figures. Even those committing crimes have reasons. They say, "The situation demands that I do this, but a little later I will work for the benefit of mankind. " If you don't agree, I have a story to tell you.

When I was in prison I lived in the same cell with other criminals, including murderers. I would ask them, "Why did you commit that kind of horrible crime?" and they would say, "I did nothing wrong. The evil society made me do that. " Everybody thought he was right in doing that. He may have killed a certain person, thinking, "If I were in his position...... Or if he committed a crime against the political leaders, he would say, "If I were in his position, I would have done this and that far better than he did."

The same thing applies to you, and you have reasons for doing good and bad things. Even children have reasons for what they do. When we scold them, they protest saying that they did it because of this and that, and they are strong in their protest. That is a human trait, coming from the notion that we are the right person and we are going to be the central person.

We cannot deny that there are two groups of people, roughly divided-those who are good and those who are bad. Then what are the differences between good and evil? We must make a clear distinction between these two. That which is good must be proven good by the past welcomed by the present, and assumed to be welcomed by the future generations. It must be welcomed by both young and old, male and female, high and low. Even evil people praise the good deed. Then you can safely define that you are doing good things. It means that by what you are doing, you gain friends, not enemies.

Then what is evil? What is badness? Contrary to what good is, evil cannot be welcomed by the past. Anyone at the present stage will shake heads against evil that is done, and we can well assume that the future generations too will never welcome that kind of deed. Both young and old, male and female, high or low will be horrified by what is done and will dislike it. That evil person does things for himself alone, and he confines himself to a small cell without having anything to do with the outside world. That is what evil is. And more than anything else, our conscience would not take delight in doing that kind of thing.

In other words, we can define evil as narrowing the scope of your being. You will drive yourself into solitude, and people will dislike you and hate you and won't want to be associated with you. So you are imprisoning yourself. Then our view of goodness and evil is that goodness comes into fruition when you do things for the sake of other people and as a result are welcomed by those people. On the contrary, when you do bad things, you are doing them for your own sake and you will be disliked and hated by other people. That's the dividing point between good and evil.

Then who is the most evil person? If you are doing things entirely for yourselves, without minding other people's benefit or goodness, then you can say that you are doing evil things. There is no concession, no forgiveness, no love there. That's the person who is the most evil. Can you understand?

Then what would be an evil family? If you think of your family alone, without thinking of the benefit of other families or other people, then your family is a bad one. You have seen so many families in the secular society who work only for their own benefit most of the time. And we can say that those have been bad families. They don't think of their neighbors, they don't think of their society, but they work only for the benefit of themselves.

Then when those families make a nation, they naturally make a bad one. The leader of the nation, including all the citizens, think of their own nation first and only. And they want to conquer other nations and drive them to their knees to obey their nation. Then can you comprehend what kind of a nation it must be? An evil nation. Hitler is a good example. The Germans wanted to conquer all other races and have the hegemony over other races and put others on their knees before them. Hitler was the kind of person we call a tyrant, a dictator.

Then what are good ideologies and bad ones? Communism for one says, "We must deny and conquer other ideologies. We cannot admit others." If anyone denies Communism he can be readily beheaded. Ideologically, the Communists are dictators. Since they are bad, they will not last long. When we closely study what is happening in the United States, we see that individualism prevails here. That is close to evil. It is a cousin to evil, although, not evil itself. There is no family here, no neighbor, no nation, but just more stress on the individual. Then that is animal instinct, and in some cases worse than Communism.

The Communists at least think of bringing the world under their ideology, but these individualists think of themselves alone.

If there is God and He is going to punish what is evil, He will punish the individualists after having punished Communists, the God-denying people. So we can draw the conclusion that if people of the United States go on like this, then they will be faced with peril. We have to do something with democracy here. Without our work here, there will be no way for the United States to survive.

Then to which category do you belong-the good side or bad side? (Good.) What makes you say that? [One voice: "You. " ] If you answer that way on the examination sheet, you will get no points. You must say, "Because we are on the extreme opposite side to evil, the absolutely contrary side. We are good. "

As I have said before, if you work not for yourself but for the sake of other people, and if you are acknowledged by the past generation, and working for the present generation and willing to work for the future generation, then you can define yourselves to be good. We have a clear notion in everything we say. We know that the people of the Jewish religion were wrong in the past. And we know how to become better than they. We believe our doctrine excels theirs, and in practicing that, we will right the wrong. We have come through the mess and have gone through the operation to cure sick Christianity; now we are going to heal the wounds. We are going to analyze and criticize what is wrong with Communism and even criticize democracy and set a lasting ideology for mankind.

Without doubt, through our group a worldwide doctrine or philosophy will be established that excels any of those in the past, present, or future. Then ours, instead of being criticized will be welcomed by the people of the past, of the present, and of the future. In that sense, we can define our group as being good. Is it right? Then you must test yourselves and prove it. If you cannot do it yourself, I will test you. Can you survive it? You must have courage.

You can call to the past saints and sages and say, "Come and wrestle with me." Yes, you must be confident to win over them. In the degree of goodness you will surpass them. Are you sure you can do that? It's simple to answer in the affirmative, but it may not be as easy as it sounds. Not only in competing with people of the past, but also in competing with the great leaders of the present age, you must excel. You must be able to tell them to follow your example, but you cannot force them.

Many people have fallen away from the movement, but after a while they have to come back. When they come back they have no face to lift up. Are you strong enough to influence other people who fell away to come back to you? No other power in the whole world, however strong it may be, can pull you away. And if you are pulled to their side, you will come back. If you are pulled a second time, three times, four times, you will come back five times. If you are going to be pulled on their side a hundred times, you will come back a hundred and one times. If you are pulled to their side a thousand times, you will come back a thousand and one times. Are you already that way, or are you going to be that way? I admire you.

Well, in that case you must be confident that you have the seal from heaven, the signature of God, the signature of the True Parents, and the signature of every other member; the passed-away saints and sages must recognize you. Did you receive that? If you have not been able to receive the signature of recognition from those people, you are far from being that. Then you will say, "We are going to be someone like that. " For some it may take a year; for still others it may take several years, ten years, a hundred years, a lifetime. It is not going to be easy.

Without being those kinds of people, you cannot move the world. Unless you leave a standard of goodness which the later generations can and must follow, you cannot call yourselves really good. Are you confident of that? Have you thought that you would do that, even though it would take you a lifetime? Even though you may get as old as seventy or eighty or until the time of your death you will still be doing that without ceasing? And on the deathbed you must say, "I have done my best to be the example to the past generations, and I have done this and that for the good of the present age. What I have done will be exemplary to future generations. " Are you sure you can say that before dying?

It must not be just lip service. You must create the contents of your own history. If people around your deathbed know that you are telling a lie, they will say, "Go to hell. " If you are the other way around, people will cling to you and pray for you not to die and want you to be with them forever. They will just love you. Can you be that kind of person? (Yes.) In that case, you can well say that you are a good person, which is not easy.

The first thing you need in defining yourself to be good is unwavering faith in what you are doing and the accumulation of your good deeds. All the people of the world will like or love that kind of person. We have young men and women here-in the future days would you not choose a spouse who is as good as what we have defined? (Yes.) Then would you say you are -going to be happy couples?

Then just fancy that you are married to just such a good person. Then your family is going to be run not for the sake of your family alone, but for the sake of the whole nation or the whole world. For instance, after having been blessed in holy marriage in our family, Father will call one of a certain couple to America while the other is working elsewhere. Maybe one will be working in the North Arctic, while the other is working in the South Pole. Then if it is going to be done for the benefit of mankind, you must welcome that. That's our way of living. You said yes, but I want you to hold up your hands if you really welcome that idea. You are doing that reluctantly. (No.)

Suppose one couple have lived separately for ten years, and another couple for thirty years. Which couple would you think is better? (The second.) You know well. Well, that's your standard of measuring goodness. If you are ignorant of the definition, it would be horrible. But since you know the definition, you can shorten the period. In the secular world, people think of themselves alone, all being individualists. That's just animal instinct, nothing else. So you must know that what is good does not belong to this generation alone. It belongs to other generations, too; and it is something that occurs when we work for the past, for the present, and for the future.

I am not a foolish person to do this, but I have thought and thought, prayed and prayed to create the Unification group. People may think I am unwise to have chosen such a difficult way. And what I have chosen is the most difficult way in the whole world. But have I done this for myself? (No.) What I want is for you to do something which we can leave for the past generation, present generation, and future generation. Since other people do not understand us, we are a lonely group of people. In our solitude we are doing things that other people don't understand. But as time goes by, people will know and understand what it means. They will say in the future days that what Reverend Moon has been teaching is right.

The same thing is true with the Watergate issue. Even President Nixon did not know what was coming in the future in God's plan. He will realize some day in the future that what I told him to do was right. As I have continuously mentioned, I am not pro-Nixon but pro-God, and he was in God's plan. That's why I was backing him. I knew he was wrong in many ways, but God is choosing someone better than the other. American leadership must be solid because America is in danger, but still America in God's sight is at least better than other nations, more for the good.

Why am I working in this nation, having brought so many young people from other nations? It is because while we work in this nation for this nation, we are working equally for other nations and for the whole of mankind. We believe that. There are good people, bad people; good families, bad families; good nations, bad nations; when we can analyze and criticize those things, we can see a clear difference between what is good and evil. What we are doing is headed for the clear goal under God's divine will. There is no further room for definition of what is good and evil.

The religion under Unification ideology must become the history-making one. Would you want that? Then even though we have a strong ideology, if we don't put it into practice, what will become of us? Would you put it into practice? Then from whom does it start? From where would it start? From every one of you. You cannot rely too much on God, or too much on someone else, but you must do it starting from yourself, In that sense, you can place yourself in the central position. By your applying that rule, putting everything in the ideology into practice, then you can really be happy, and you will feel the challenge and blessedness of what you are doing. Do you really understand what I mean?

Then let us analyze our development stage by stage. For the first stage, we must cultivate ourselves to become the central figure of ultimate value, and we must create our family on the base. If you have sacrificed yourself and are still sacrificing yourselves for the sake of the family, you are naturally placed in the central position. It is human nature that you like to have someone sacrifice his total life for your sake, being the leader for you and for your group.

There are many things that cause changes, but this is the ultimate truth and truth never changes. It is only too natural for someone to become the central figure in the family with others as his satellites or followers when he does things solely for the sake of the family, not for himself. If all the family members follow the example of the central figure, and the family as a whole plays the role of the central family, then this family can influence other families, including neighbors and relatives. That family will be the central family of its clan and tribe. I am sure you will not object to that.

If that kind of clan, tribe, or nation is multiplied, those nations can influence other nations until it brings the whole of mankind to goodness. It is only too natural for such a nation to influence the whole world and win the favor of mankind. It is because when you work for things of a broader scope, you can play the role of the central figure in that category.

Then for what does the Unification Church exist? We are in the age in which religions must take the leadership of the nation or people, and the world. First of all, our view is that the Unification Church should work for the nation and then the whole world. For instance, there are many religions in America, but if our movement works more for this nation and sacrifices itself for the benefit of this nation, that way we do more than any other religion. Then we can be the central religion of all other religions and of all other groups. That's what makes us different from others. We see a clear difference between our group and other groups. Most other groups work for the expansion of their own church or their own religious group, but in our group we work for the benefit of other people; in doing that we win members.

What have you been doing up to the present? We have not worked for the Unification Church; we have worked for the United States, for the people of the United States. We have worked for the democratic world. We have been working for the whole world so there will be no threat of Communism. As it now stands, we are in a losing game, always giving out things.

But what will come next? Behind the scenes there will be people who instead of complaining and calling us names, will praise us and admire us. When you visit people, they will just hate to see you leave them, wanting to work with you and use you in their own group. Most of the people in this nation would like to have you work longer in this nation, without leaving it, but working hard for it. That means they know that we are working not for the benefit of our own group, but for the sake of the whole nation. Then are we unhappy people, or happy people? We know what makes us happy. Why are you happy people?

Every moment we are seemingly losing things; we are not properly fed; we are not sleeping in comfortable beds; we cannot idle away our time in enjoying life. What makes us happy people? On the external base, in secular eyes, we are seemingly losing things; but on the spiritual level, we are gaining much. You must know that. What are we gaining on the invisible level? We will inherit what our predecessors have gained. Then what we are doing now will be fruitful, and will be admired in the future.

At the present stage, we don't belong only to a small group; rather, what belongs to the whole world will be ours. Things of a higher dimension will be associated with us, and the spiritual world is mobilized to help us out on that level. What makes our group different is that other groups in the world look for things belonging to the present, but we look for things involving the past and future, in addition to the present. The more you sacrifice yourselves, the more solid your stand as the central figure becomes. Without knowing it, you will change. The leadership will be recognized by God in that way.

This kind of group will develop into a wider and still wider scope, from things on the individual level to that on the family level, national level, and worldwide level. Every moment we are solemnly inheriting the central value of our predecessors, conveying the baton to our successors. In the short period of three years or less, I have become known to the American people. If, meanwhile, I have done those things for my own sake, making riches and putting them into my pocket to go back to my nation, my name will be defined as evil. But because I am doing this for this nation and its people, then the people will know well that I am doing this for the good of the nation, and they will remember my name. So far, have you worked for your own sake, or for this nation and its people and the world? (Nation.) Are you sure of that? If that is true you are already great people and you will remain great.

In the United States, if people in general hate to do things, perspiring all over, and you would choose to do those things, then what you will do will be greater than what they do. Since you are doing those things for the nation of America and for its people, the days will come when they will come to their knees before you in admiration. History will never die. History resurrects every moment. Every moment we live and everything we do will remain recorded in the history of America.

We are not at present too conspicuous on the pages of American history, but what we are sowing now will grow, and at least be harvested by the future generations, if not by our own hands. What we have sown will sprout and grow to be a big tree and bear fruit. People will know what our group means by our fruit. But those who already know the greatness of the tree will just water the tree and cultivate the tree, waiting anxiously for it to grow fast, instead of hindering it.

You are not very well dressed. The female members want to have cosmetics and manicures, to look nicer. But instead, you are all suntanned and you are working very hard, perspiring all over. Sometimes you look pale-even undernourished. But people will admire you because they know that what you are doing is for the nation and not for yourselves. For this kind of person there is no fear whatever. We are living by the law of the Constitution and the divine law, so there is nothing for us to fear in the whole world. We are not afraid of any individual. We are not afraid of the nation of America. We are not afraid of the FBI or the CIA. We are not even afraid of God. We are not afraid of hell.

Those who are not afraid of anything are the strongest persons in the whole world. We are not afraid of God or hell; instead, God will be afraid of us, and hell will be afraid of us, and people will be afraid of us. Then are you not proud of yourselves? Without being equipped with all those things, you cannot be responsible for the salvation of the whole world. If we personify the whole world, the world will want to have you as the leader. We must be proud of ourselves and be confident.

Even in human society, that kind of leadership is needed. Even though we may not be able to leave anything else, we must leave this to other generations as our doctrine or discipline. We may not be able to revive or revitalize the Christian world, making it resurrect into the divine will; but if we leave this ideology, people in later generations will take up the job and God's will will be realized. Now we see the clear picture of what we are doing and what we are going to do.

The past generations, the present generation, and the future generations will want that kind of leadership. That's what we know. I don't have to repeat that to you; even you would want that kind of person as your leader, placing him in the central position. Then those who have passed away, including your ancestors, will help you out and just pray for your victory during your life on earth. Would they not do that? It does not remain just logic, but it is true that myriads of saints and sages, including your ancestors, are praying for you and helping you in every way possible. All the good and righteous people on the earth are even unconsciously helping you, longing for your victory. It is because you are working for the sake of all. Those who are not conscious of, or who are ignorant of what we are doing, will later know that what we have done is for their sake, and they will admire us and pray for us. Our descendants will fear us, and look at us for an example to follow.

God would want a person resembling Him. That means a person who is loved and welcomed by the people of the past, people of the present, and by the people of future generations. This is the kind of person who does things for others, not for himself.

God is just like us and we are like God. He would like what people would like. He would like the person whom people would like. He is just the same as we are. He wants religious people to become that kind of people. He would not expect to find such persons anywhere other than in the religious world. This is because religious people must think of things in terms of God and His plan. So religious people are closer to God.

Then which religion of all other religions would do the job? If a religion wants to meet the standard of goodness which we have just defined, then the people under that religion are the closest to God. Where is that kind of religion? (Here.) But what about other people? That's why we must work hard and make other people recognize and accept us. We must prove it with our own deeds. People will compare our group with others. God does the same. God compares our church, our religion with other religions, by the way people of other religions do things, He will assess their religion. If there is a vast difference between those religions and ours and we excel the other religions by far, then alone can God say our religion is the best. God can compare not only the religions of the present age, but also the many religions in the past. After comparing all those things, if He finds our religion excels all others, then alone can God really praise us and call us good.

If I were in God's position, I would be anxious to meet that kind of group. God is not a God of favoritism. He would not say, "I would want a German group to have that kind of religion," or "I would want a French group to have that kind of religion, " or any other special group. There is no racial or national boundary in God's concept. He would look for a group which has gone through much difficulties and survived, one which is conspicuous in human scenes, and one which has done deeds for the good of the world.

Suppose we meet one person who has gone through all those things and survived and set the standard. What will God do if He found this kind of person? If he perfected himself on the individual level, but failed at the stage of making his family perfect under God's will, what would God do? Would God want that to happen? He would want his family to be the standard family, the perfect family; one which is exemplary to other families. He would have a nation with such families to be the standard nation and be exemplary to other nations of the world.

Suppose God had already found such a family. What would He do then'? God's intention and hope is to save the nation and the world; and if this kind of family could play the role of the central family in the whole nation, would God want to have this family do the job, or would He rather choose another family? (This family.) If any individual is really as perfect as God is, and if he plays the role of central figure in his family, his family is sure to play the central role to all other families. In this way he can widen his scope to reach out to the end of the world.

If he is only capable of making a nation under God's will, would God like that, or would God rather have this man enlighten and save the world, continually playing the role of the central figure of the whole world? Would God want him to save the whole world, or the rest of the cosmos? If the tradition he has laid is perfectly God-centered, the tradition will expand in scope until it includes the whole cosmos.

For the President of your nation, would you want to have just a policy-maker, running the nation for the time being, or would you want him to be an historical President? Would you not want to have his family be the model family, and he as an individual be as perfect as possible? Which President do you want, a prepared one or an unprepared one? Since God's goal is the whole of mankind, we are sure that He wants to find one who is perfect as an individual, whose family is perfect, and who is capable of making His nation perfect, and the whole world and the whole cosmos, including the spirit world, perfect? Wouldn't that be true?

That one man must be able to play the central role through all the levels-individual, family, tribe, nation, world, and cosmos. Until God meets that kind of person, He cannot be reassured; He cannot really say, "It is good, or he is good. " God being absolute, wants that person to be as perfect as Himself. In His providence of restoration, or providence of salvation, God has been seeking for one person like that to have him save the whole world in His place. Until the day He finds such a person, He cannot rest. Has He found such a person? Are you sure you can become as perfect as He is Himself? We can call this kind of person an ideal person, or a perfect person. Now that you know this, can you sell this person in exchange for the whole country of America? (No.) You cannot buy this person at the cost of the whole world. You may be able to buy this person at the cost of the whole world plus God.

You have every right to say, "I am such a person," but what comes next is how to prove it. By your deeds alone can you prove it. Then how wonderful it must be if you all can prove that! God wants people of that personality.

Let us examine whether or not God does things that way. Without the human fall, what would Adam and Eve have been like? In that case, Adam and Eve would have set up the absolute tradition of God's choice. Then they would have become as perfect as God, as His son and daughter. They would have formed an ideal family according to God's will. Then they and their family would have become the central family of all other families, playing the role of the chief of the tribe. Then after establishing the nation or kingdom, Adam would have been the king of the nation. That's what we mean when we call the Messiah the King of kings. Had it not been for the human fall, our first human ancestors, Adam and Eve, could have become the chief of the family, clan, nation, and the whole world, reigning over the world under God's will: This would have been the Kingdom of God on earth. All levels of things reaching to the world and the cosmos would be connected through that one man of central value. In that case, Adam would have lived not for himself, but for his family, clan, nation, and the whole world. There is no doubt about that. We can call this the ideal world.

Due to the human fall, the things contrary to what God would have us do, came into existence. But in the course of restoration, God has striven hard to re-create a person, or to find and cultivate or raise such a person to be a perfect one. Then failure came, and that search has been continued downward and downward through all human history. God would want to find a family like that, a tribe or a nation like that, and until the salvation of the whole world He will repeat the same thing. However hard your struggles to do good things may be, they only add up to a drop of water in the ocean of salvation or goodness. However hard you may struggle, what you will accumulate is only a tiny bit. The particles you have accumulated are nothing unless you find the Messiah, who will assemble all the particles into a whole. Through the personage of the Messiah, the whole family, nation, and whole world will be saved. He will play the role of the instrument of God's will, and God will directly work through him and with him. Can you understand?

What you have to do is just to cling to him and be a part of him. When he is a perfect man you will be a part of him; when he has a perfect family, you will be a part of his family; when he has erected a perfect nation under him, you will be a part of his nation; and when he has erected the whole world under God's will, you will be a part of the whole. For a fallen man, that is the ultimate wish, or should be the ultimate wish. You want to see such a thing be done by that kind of person in your lifetime. If your wish is to see that kind of person, and get to really work with that kind of person, how much happier you would be. You must be confident to play the role of central figure and the person of central value in place of, or even without the Messiah, after learning from him.

But the fact is that however hard you may struggle, you cannot win the goal without the help of the Messiah. It is made possible only by working with him and by being helped by him. That's what we mean by our being engrafted to him. In proportion to the degree you are one with him, you can draw the more or less sap or life energy from him and survive after being engrafted. Then you will become a part of him and you will grow with him through the same trunk and root. You are his branches, and after growing wholesomely, you will bear fruit. Then would you want to be engrafted to him? To what degree do you want it? (The greatest.) It is easy to answer yes, but if you really want it, I want you to be the utmost patriot of your nation first.

But what comes first? Would you want America, your nation, first-more than you would your Lord, Christ? Would you love your family more than you do the Messiah? Then are you ready to love him more than your own life? That's why Jesus said you must love him more than anyone else in the whole world, and you must deny yourself. On another occasion he said, "Whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. " This is so because when you want to be engrafted onto something you must cut yourself off and bring yourself to be engrafted onto the main tree. Cutting yourself off means to deny yourself, being ready to die. If the limb has its own will and just hates to be cut off, can it be engrafted to the main tree?

So the Unification members are here for what? To be cut off from the old tie and be engrafted onto the Messiah. That's why you left your family, your nation, and came here. Was it good that you have done it, or not? Then what would your nation say? What would your family say? What if your parents take me to be an enemy to them? They will call me a thief to have stolen their children. Then am I a thief? If someone is a thief, even the lifeless things that are being stolen will hate that person. Then would you as a person stolen by him hate him? (No.) Then I am not a thief.

Yes, you have left your nation, you have left your family, but what you do here must be greater than what you used to do before. Unless that is true, you cannot be called good. This you must be doing not only now, but in the future and all through eternity. You must never change; and you must be confident that what you are doing is right. Unless you are that way, you cannot say you are good. In that case, can you complain? You are here, and you came here willingly. And you dislike this Unification family which you once loved so much; then what is your destiny? If you want to leave, just go ahead and do that, and see if you can find any other group which is as dear to God as this group is. Your logic will say there is no other such group. What you have witnessed here will say that too, and you are destined to come back sooner or later.

If there is any such group other than this in the whole world, I would have left this group long ago in search of that one. I have so many high antennae reaching the spirit world, and I have reached and searched for any group or any doctrine higher than this; finally I settled here.

If asked such a question, everybody would say, "I want to be that kind of person. I want to be that kind of central figure. " And even though it is hard for them to become such a person, it is everybody's wish to become the central figure. Isn't that right? But when in the Unification Church there is already a person who has won the recognition by God, you have only to follow him. You must be proud that you are one of the Unification Church and a part of him. If you are sure of that, would you say you are a success or a failure? Then are we happy people, or unhappy people? How happy are we here? How long will you be happy? Forever-it is like forever.

You will live for this cause and die for this cause, and nothing you will do will be useless or valueless. If God would ask you, "Would you want to enjoy a long life?", your answer will no doubt be yes. But you must answer Him with this: "Yes, because I want to work for myself until I become perfect, and for my family until I make it perfect, and for my clan and nation and the whole world until I make it perfect and restored under your will. That's why I want to live long." And you will be endowed with longer life.

One of you will come to me and say, "I have a wish, Master, " and I will ask, "What is your wish?" You will say, "I want to do everything with you as the example, and I want to make myself happy, perfect my family and nation and the whole world in place of you. So you must push me harder and make me do that. " Then what would I do? Would you want to say that to me? What if I just wouldn't let you sleep and let you work 24 hours through without rest? What would you do? Would you tell me that you are going to do what is assigned to you? Would you say, I would rather have you do that in five years' time and enjoy the kingdom after five years? Then why do I urge you to do your part in five years, or three years instead of five, or five years instead of ten? Why? It is because I want you to live a happy life after having done all the tasks of establishing God's kingdom.

I want so badly to see you live and enjoy your life in the established kingdom of God. I don't want you to just work on and on all through your lifetime. Since I want you to live the life of happiness and ultimate goodness after having established the kingdom, that's why I urge you to do the things in the shortest possible time. This compels me to drive you harder. If I were in God's position, what would I have to do? God is even more anxious to have you finish the work, so He may want you to finish the work in one year, instead of three years,

We know what goodness means by now, and one thing we must remember is that while we delay our work, there are many people dying away, destined to hell every moment, without being saved. We must save the people. Compared to the vast population of the world, 3.6 billion, if one out of one hundred dies every day, then 36 million people are dying in one year. Then upon their physical death, if they are destined to hell, what would you do? In ten years' time, it means 300 million people are doomed to go to hell. Then you can well imagine how anxious God must be to save these people before their death.

In God's eyes, it is nothing to sacrifice several thousand people of the Unification Church for the salvation of the whole. Can you comprehend that? You must be willing to accept that. So there is no time to lose, no moment to lose. It is Master's thought and God's thought and the thought of the commanders here to shorten the period if possible. Instead of finishing the job in ten years, if possible we should shorten the period into five years or three years, or even one year.

Whenever I see you, and when you cry out in joy at seeing me, I cry and sob in my heart more than you do. I sometimes even feel guilty to have put you in difficulties. I would think, "Well, I have put them in such hardships and they still want to see me and are happy to see me; they are good people, and maybe in a sense better than myself." And in my mind I feel cross and cannot lift up my face. Then I renew my determination to at all costs erect the Kingdom on earth, not to rebel against it or betray you. If I fail at that moment, I would think I would nullify all you have done. So I have become so serious.

I would go out into the city of New York and see you people meeting the passersby and witnessing to them, and I would cry in my heart. I cannot lift up my face to look at you. At that moment I feel as though I am a sinner before you, and I would just keep dropping my head passing by. I would pray to God, "Oh, God, I would pass everything I have earned onto these people. " This comes in a flash, and when I am reassured that God would do that and bless you more than He has done me, then I become reassured and I lift up my face to look at you. For all these reasons, I can say that you are happy people.

Even though you are driven harshly on the way of difficulty, hardships, and persecutions, and all those things, your Master is remembering you and working with you at every moment of your hard work. I am confident that it is that kind of quality in me which makes you love me, instead of hating me. You can be sure that I am always ahead of you, working and paving the way to smooth it and make your work easier. Every moment of my life I am either in prayer or at work. That's what makes our tie strong and our group strong. No other power in the whole world will hinder our way, and we will establish the kingdom while on earth.

So however hard you may have to struggle, and how hard the persecution you may have to go through, I am sure you cannot hate me. God, too, instead of hating me, is always sympathetic with me. I know that. God is anxious to have me be successful and have our group be successful. You can believe that the moment when you are having more difficulties, God is more with you and working with you.

We are here this time for the campaign towards Madison Square Garden. We are awakened to the fact that we are in a serious position, where all the people of the world are looking at us, including the saints and sages of the past. The future generations will read about us. God is anxious to have us become a success instead of failure. All those things will decide whether or not we are going to be successful in the Madison Square Garden project. We now know that we are people of central value whose mission is to perfect ourselves and perfect our family, nation, and the whole world; and our ultimate purpose or goal is to liberate God from the bondage of grief and sorrow. How big and a wonderful thing it would be to liberate God from the bondage of sorrow!

In proportion to what we have gained and what we have done God will be liberated. So we must feel the authority of being a person of central value. Then God is relying on us at every moment, and we cannot be failures. We just simply cannot be failures in God's sight. Due to the human fall in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve could not use their five senses in the right way. We must see things as though God would see them. We must hear and say things as God would have us do. If you are really awakened to the fact that you are already the person of central value, what would you do? You must prove yourselves to be that before God. You must prove it to the world. You must prove it to me. Can you do that? It is a serious question.

Every moment of your life you must renew your dedication, saying, "I am willing to bear whatever cross that may come, and whatever persecution may come. " Then you will be strong enough to be able to bear the responsibility. You must put your whole efforts into becoming the central figure, not only for your own nation not only as a history-maker in the worldly sense-but you must become the person on whom God can rely to accomplish the mission He assigned. Are you confident of that? Then go ahead and do that.

What is the purpose of my having the campaign towards Madison Square Garden? This is my third year in the United States. I have the responsibility of breaking the record other people have already set in the history of America; not only that, but in every field of history of the whole world. My first public appearance was made in 1972, and before that year, I had not made any public appearance even in Korea.

I initiated my public appearance in the United States because this nation is the leading nation of the whole world. You can see that within the short period of time of less than three years, we have attained so much. When I was first going to talk at Lincoln Center, people almost scoffed at me. They thought that I would do that just once, and give up, never appearing again. The next year they found that Reverend Moon was going to speak in Carnegie Hall. They were sort of doubtful, saying, "Well, can these people fill up Carnegie Hall? Maybe half the hall will be filled." After that tour, which was kicked off at Carnegie Hall, I finished a 2 1 -city tour; then a 32-city tour including all states. People would imagine that without using vast amounts of money, these people could not do that.

So my plan is to make the whole world frightened or astonished by us. So far, our speaking tour was successful. There is an immigration problem still unsolved. After the successful completion of the tour, the immigration problem came to be more serious. Then, as you know, I shifted the fund-raising teams, and I am now using only American members for that. There are many members here from European nations and Japan, and I know you have struggled hard. Without your efforts here, the American movement could not have become so much elevated.

At the time of the latest Prayer and Fast I mobilized mostly American members-600 of them. I am now in the process of rearranging the situations to use mostly American members for important projects. How many American members do we have here? Sooner or later we will have to shift the mobile team members to Americans exclusively. As you know, this year is the final year of our second seven-year course, and then our third seven-year course will start from next year.

Our third seven-year course will be trodden on the worldwide level. We will go beyond the national level to the worldwide level. Then it means that our American members must play the central role. Because America is still in the leading position of the world, when American youth do things, the whole population of the world cannot but condone them. They cannot take it lightly. If we are going to mobilize ten international mobile team members to be shifted to other countries, we must lay the national foundation first.

Our focal point is to arouse the attention of the American people and have the nation of America back us up by recognizing us. If we are successful in the Madison Square Garden project, the whole nation of America cannot take us lightly. For our public relations aspect, we are using a company which is very successful in its line, and are spending almost 300,000 dollars for that. People know that in order to have that kind of vast project be successful, we should use even seven times as much money.

Billy Graham, too, at first had to use that much money; and he then aroused the attention of so many people so all the churches would mobilize their members to attend his speech. But in our church, Master is doing the job all by himself, without help coming from the established churches. But we have the strength of dedicated young people. If they are really thinkers, most people have been astonished by the fact that 600 young people were in the fast and prayer demonstration in front of Capitol Hill. They know that we are the strongest group in that sense, too.

If our Madison Square Garden project becomes a success, it will arouse the attention of all the people of the United States and the world. After the success, people will recognize that our group has a great number of young people. They know that we have a strong system working here. They will know that we have a vast amount of money. By using some 300,000 dollars we will do the work which other people cannot do even if they use three times as much money as that, or five times, or seven times as much money. And people cannot overlook it.

At first people will become scornful and say, "Oh, we will wait and see, but he will never be successful in filling up that vast auditorium." There are many big organizations in the city of New York, and most represent the whole world; they think that it is very probable that our project will be a failure. Then we will turn their notion upside down and they will be astounded.

Then ever after that, they will have to study our group. As it is already, many famous people who have already been contacted by us will be astonished again by what we do and will have to study us. In that case, would you at all costs make Madison Square Garden project a success? From our experience, last year we have studied that by selling tickets, only one fifth of the people came, even though they paid for it. So we prepared thirty times as many tickets as the capacity. Then how many tickets did we print? 500 thousand. Whenever we distribute them we will take down the people's addresses and telephone numbers so that we can get in touch with them later on.

We have so far already distributed some 100 thousand tickets. So in fact even without your participation in the campaign, New York members alone can do the job. With you people added in, we will let the New Yorkers know and stir up the whole city from comer to comer.

Even the citizens of New York who came to know the activities of our members, began to think that this group will be successful. It cannot fail. "They are so persevering," they say. "They are so stubborn and so persevering that they can never fail. " So when you look so stubborn, they don't like it at first; but when they go back to their homes they just admire you. Then they will tell the people in their organization or their children, "Young people must be like that."

For the making of history, you international mobile teams must compete with the New York members and never be defeated. When I find you with strong confidence, I am pleased, because I want to see you beat the New York family. If you have looked at Mr. Kamiyama, he is-how should I say it-frowning. Your goal is an audience of 25 thousand, but my goal is an audience of 50 thousand, and how to make the rumor spread that half the number had to go back home without being admitted.

This year being the final year of our second seven-year course, whether or not we will make it a success is a serious question; and if we conclude this final year of our second seven-year course with a more than full-capacity audience, then our third seven-year course will start from there. If we make our Madison Square Garden project a success in that scope, we will plan for Yankee Stadium soon. Then by that time we will be confident to fill up that place. If we are successful in the Yankee Stadium campaign, then we can plan for a speech with an audience of half a million.

When Reverend Billy Graham spoke in Korea, he had an audience of a half million. We have to have more than half a million, in America. We have no time. People of the world will say that Reverend Billy Graham had an audience of half a million in Korea, but this man, Reverend Sun Myung Moon, has an audience of more than half a million in America. If we don't say that kind of foundation here in America in several years' time, we cannot have the way to open the toll gate to reach out to the world.

Before long, we have to mobilize 3,000 young people as an international mobile team to land in other countries. Which of you will be chosen for that is the question. In that case you will have already paved the way on which you can meet the top government officials of those nations. I have to establish the record of having done that much in seven years' time starting from the year 1974 up to the year 1977, or at the latest 1978. What I am doing is always in accordance with God's will; we must do things in conformity with God's timetable. There is not always time under God's plan. Madison Square Garden will be the final project which, by our success, will open the toll gate to reach out to the world. By our doing this, we will have set up the condition to open mission fields in other countries, too. Then, in that case, the missionaries sent to new countries will not have to go through too much difficulty.

There are many millionaires and billionaires in this country, but the United States law makes it difficult for them to pass their money onto their descendants, so they choose rather to give it away, or make donations or contributions to organizations. Suppose there are ten thousand companies, and each of the ten thousand would donate to us ten thousand dollars. How much would that be? A hundred million. Then people will compete to donate money to us, and you won't have to sell peanuts and flowers and candles. At the moment, our PR members are working hard to contact these people, but they do that for Madison Square Garden. From time to time we have been offered a donation, but I would tell them not to receive it for the time being. I would have them tell those people, "We don't need ten thousand dollars," and things like that, "But if you are ready to give us a donation of more than 100 thousand dollars, we may. . . ." When they hear this from a small, cute female PR member, they are astonished and surprised. But they know that these people are serious and confident, because I am confident behind you.

Next year, I am going to send out 360 missionaries to 120 nations. This time we are going to send three young people from each nation-one European, one American, and one Japanese member. But until they are well settled in those countries, we will send money to support their activities there. If we send a thousand dollars a month to each nation, that means we have to have $360,000 a month. That's what I am planning now. Then we are going to organize three international teams, one for Japan, one for Europe, and one for America, each consisting of one thousand members. So we must fill up the quota of one person per month. There is no question of your being able to bring in one member in three months' time. But if you will fill the quota of one person per month, there will be a radical development in our movement.

So on the mobile teams you belong to, you are getting trained for that purpose, and capable people will be chosen. When you are sent to those countries as missionaries, you will have to lay the foundation at least in three years' time. Then after laying the foundation, then you will be given another job. If in three years' time you have laid the foundation, then you will be brought back here. We will educate you in the universities we will have established by that time. I want you to study hard in the university and earn the doctorate degree. By our doing that, we will train core members of the Unification Church to be world leaders.

Then during the third seven-year course, we will all be working for things on the worldwide level. All the national leaders will be brought back to be educated in the university; then later on more people will be recruited through the missionaries in those nations, and we will bring brilliant young people of those nations to be educated here. Before long we will make our university number one.

We initiated the International Leadership Seminar last year to bring students from Cambridge and Oxford Universities in England; but this year there are more people here from European nations and Japan; through those channels we can reach good, top-level professors in so many nations. Those who are working on campuses will study these people and know they are reliable people; once they are given responsibility, they will carry it out. In order for us to establish ties with professors of noted level, for instance, Nobel Prize winners will be invited to the Unified Science Conference, as we have already done. In November of this year we are going to have another Unified Science Conference in London, and out of the 120 who applied for that, 23 are Nobel Prize winners. That means 20 percent of the number are Nobel Prize winners. Compared to what we did last year, we have made vast strides. Through that channel, too, Reverend Moon is more widely known to the world.

If we establish the system greater than the Nobel Prize, we could invite those Nobel Prize winners, by paying some $50,000 a year, to our university. Now we are in the process of preparing for that. We know that scholars are the brain of world policy, and before long we are going to organize the board of directors, consisting of world famous professors from universities around the world. Through them and with them we are going to organize an award system far excelling the Nobel system, and then through these people we can establish top-level academic standards. What I have said, I will bring to pass.

This is the future university where we are going to educate the brilliant people for the leadership of the whole world, and the fact you are here for the training in this auditorium is very, very meaningful. In Tarrytown next to Belvedere I have bought 260 acres of land for that purpose. When you are here, how do you feel? Are you happy here? You have seen the changes brought about by Father. When you compare our movement two years ago and that at the present moment, you know the difference.

Just the other day I read an article about myself in a Korean newspaper in New York, which said, "It is unthinkable and it is almost strange and unbelievable that Reverend Moon, just an unknown person two years ago, came to the United States and established this much of a foundation. " You seemingly repeat the same thing all over every day, but behind the scenes, I am doing another thing to pave your way. You must realize that. My project is so complicated; I am doing so many things at a time.

Recently, I have been on the boat fishing all the time. I am thinking of opening a marine business. I am not only a great thinker, great speech maker, but a great businessman. Just imagine what will become of our group ten years from now. You can imagine. You can realize that what we plan will come into existence. Some of the things are being done even without your knowledge. Several decades ago, ten years ago perhaps, I began to plan those things, and one by one I came to realize those things. I was a successful man in Korea. I was a considerable success in Japan, too, And am I in the process of being successful in the United States or not? (Yes.) You say yes because you know that, you feel that.

I started my mission bare-handed, but when I strove hard to realize God's will, He blessed me with material wealth too. One very serious matter is what percentage of faith you have in me. If you believe in me 100 percent, nothing is impossible for us to do. We have already built the foundation, so that wherever you go in the United States, in each state, you have places to stay, brothers and sisters to welcome you. The same thing is true in the forty nations where we have missionaries. In the near future we will have 120 such nations, and through our missionaries the road will be so paved that you can meet ambassadors in those countries and the presidents and the policy makers. All those things are ready for you. Would you want that to happen? It's already being done.

We are here, and we have experienced that the young people can become one, transcending nationality. If you can really become one in harmonious oneness and love right here in the United States, even though I pass away to the spirit world, you will go on, making the world into oneness and harmony. Our building of the kingdom of God will never be a failure.

Suppose one of the twelve disciples of Jesus were still alive here; people will just want to follow him and learn from him what Jesus was like. All the people will gather around him. Wouldn't that be true? Then through that movement you can make Christianity into oneness. The Christian foundation has been laid and paved during the past 2,000 years, and we have inherited all of them to our side in twenty years' time or less. If you are alive when I pass away, as a disciple of mine, how much influence can you make or transmit to the whole world? Just the title of your having been disciple will mean a lot, and even though you are undereducated and underprivileged, even though you are crippled or lame, that wouldn't matter. People will just swarm around you to follow you. So each one of you must be confident that you are going to be great leaders in the future.

With equal confidence and renewed dedication, you have to make Madison Square Garden a success this time. Are you determined to do that? If you are determined to do that, will you please hold up your hands? Then how many can each one of you bring to the auditorium? If each one of you 700 can bring thirty persons, you can fill up the whole place. That means that each one of you must be responsible for thirty persons or more. It's not so easy. I trust you, and there will be no difficulty to bring 30 people each.

I want you to be determined to fill up the whole of Madison Square Garden without the New York members having to work. You must have that confidence. And the New York members will say, "We don't have to have your help. We can manage to do the job ourselves. " I will have to put you two parties in competition, good competition. Then Madison Square Garden will overflow, and as I look at you I am confident of that.

Let's come back to the mainstream of my topic today "Let us become the person of central value." This city of New York is the best arena for us to work for that purpose, and I want you to prove your capability here. In my sight, we have too many members here. We don't need this many for this project. I want you to really bring success to the project.

I have difficulty here. You must have heard the rumor of my having fed the members who were here after the fast and prayer with the fish I caught, and you would expect me to do the same. What if I don't catch so many fish this time. We are now in the season when not many fish are in the sea near America. I cannot chase them around, so you cannot expect me to feed you with fish this time? I was right to think that you have been expecting that of me. If you have expected me to give to you a rich dish of fish, hold up your hand. From the way you laugh, I can see that all of you expected it.

So far, I set up the record of catching 162 tuna fish or blue fish a day, but that was the size of 15 pounds each. These days that band of fish is gone, and we have to go so much farther into the Atlantic Ocean to catch a 700 to over one thousand-pound tuna fish. I weigh just over 200 pounds, so that means the tuna fish is going to be three times as heavy as myself. If I catch one fish of that size a day, I can feed you. But it is not easy; it is never easy. So I am anxious to catch a big fish to feed you once at least, so if I disappear by tomorrow, you know that I am out fishing. What I am planning is to go to the sea near Boston this time. Would you rather have me here every day, even though I may not catch fish? You would rather not have fish even though I may be here with you? You say no, but in your minds you are saying yes. If you know the significance of having eaten fish caught by Master, your answer will be different. Your descendants will in later days say, "Our grandfather, our grandmother ate the fish Master caught in their days. " Then each one of you can tell the story to your grandchildren that Father caught the fish for you.

Then by now you are ready to think, "It's okay if Father is not here with us, but I only hope that on the final day Father will appear with a big tuna fish. It will be good if he can come to us and speak before us while we are in New York. " Some day I will be before you to talk while you are still in New York, so don't be discouraged, even though I don't appear before you these few days. If I don't come back to you within a month, you can calculate that I have not caught fish, even though spending that much time. What I think is that if God loves you, the fish will be there, and I can catch it easily.

You say you don't have to eat the fish and want to have me here, but more than you yourselves and more than anything else, I want to catch the fish for you. That's what I want.

So from time to time I will kidnap one of your commanders and they will be gone. Don't be sorry for that. You people must be ready with one truck all the time, and if I phone you must dash here to the waterfront right away with the truck so that I can load that 700-or one thousand-pound tuna fish. If I am forced to be a failure, then I will at least buy one for you. So whether or not I catch the fish, you will be eating the fish anyway. One of the training programs this time is for you to eat raw fish, which Father likes very much. Once you taste it, you will like it more than I do, I am sure. Young people must be concerned about the sea. It is a broader stage for us to work.

I want you to choose among you those who are going to be responsible over the marine business in the later days. By doing these things these days, I am setting the tradition for you to work in the future. I have been spending so many days on the Atlantic Ocean. As I understand, the seamen are apt to lose their wives because once they are on the sea, they will never come back within half a year's time, so their wives would leave them. Girls don't like to marry seamen. So the number of seamen is decreasing every year. We have to inherit that business. If we take over the business, it means we have to have our male members stay on the sea working for many months. Then our Unification Church brides will not complain about that, I am sure. That's what I foresee, and that is why I am putting emphasis on marine business.

I know too well I that all the members and some of the female members too would want to go on the boat fishing with me on the Atlantic. But you cannot do that this time. Maybe some other day in the future. You are here for training. After the training, maybe I will choose ten of you who will have made the top grade in the examination, and take you on the boat. Then that is going to be a historical event. I will take pictures with you and share the fish on the boat, and we will share many meaningful things together. Then those ten will become famous among all the Unification Church members the world over, and there will be many candidates for your brides. This is my conclusion. I will stop here because you are all pleased to hear about marriage.
