As you know, today is the day of celebration for victory which was set up last year. The word has great significance, you must know. In God's ideal for the creation of the universe there was no such thing as evil, and the co-existence of evil and good should not have come about. God's ideal world was to begin with goodness and end in goodness, and nothing like evil should exist in between.

In the Principle we know that evil came about because of Satan's will, and that Satan was not the creation of God. Evil came about because man acted in accordance with the will of Satan, which is against God's will. The source of evil is Satan. Satan came into being when the archangel rebelled against God. The archangel was originally in a position of obedience to God. We must realize how adamant an enemy Satan is.

Satan is the one who stopped God from carrying out His will. God was in a position above Adam and Eve, whom He created. Adam and Eve were originally created as temples of God in whom God would abide forever, and they could have been the true ancestor to later generations. It was through Adam and Eve that God's ideal could have been realized for they were in the position of God's children. They were the incarnation of God's ideal. Through Adam and Eve alone the Kingdom of God on earth could have been erected.

If the Principle of Creation had been realized, God would have been our source through Adam and Eve. He would have been the starting point of human goodness. Then men could have been born in God's lineage. If there had been no human Fall, God would have been our internal ancestor, while Adam and Eve would have been our external ancestors; that is, the one on the horizontal base and the other on the vertical base. Then all mankind could have known God and realized His existence; man wouldn't have to "believe in" God, but would have lived with Him. We could have been in a relationship of give and take, as Father and son, and we would realize God's existence and His presence in us, and we could rejoice forever in dancing and singing and in everything joyful.

If your mind is not happy, your body cannot respond to it. On the other hand, if your physical body is not happy, your mind cannot respond to it. Had there been no human fall, God would have been the source of everything good, everything virtuous, everything joyful and everything happy. So you as His object could have responded to Him, and your joy would have been great and varied. Then, as a man, you could rejoice in nature, as God would. Without being taught, you would know how to live, how to act, and how to think. And, above all else, you could have realized the existence of the spiritual world. But now, due to the human Fall, the door is closed to spirit world, and we don't know why and in what manner the spiritual world exists.

Any individual does not just exist as an individual but he exists in the position of an object to the whole universe. Adam represented all male beings, so he could represent all males, and Eve played the role of the female as the representative of all females. Adam could have even intuited the feelings of later generations. He would have known that he was in the position of object to God, and he could even have sensed what was to come in the future, so he would never have complained about what happened to him.

God is transcendent of time and space, so He can feel everything. He is omnipresent and omniscient. If Adam had been in the position of object to that kind of God, he would have been in the position of external God, feeling the same as God. Because God created Adam and Eve as the external God and intended to live in them, He could never have been separated from them. The result should be an ideal kingdom of heaven on earth. Fulfillment of this ideal was barred by Satan.

Any electric mechanism does not work unless it is connected to an electric source. If no electricity came to it, it would never work. Because God is in the position of the generating station, we must be connected with God in order to act right. Because of Satan, our connecting line to God is cut off and we cannot operate properly. Because of this, we must realize how adamant and fierce an enemy Satan is to us. He is the enemy who deprived us of God's love. He is the enemy who has cut off God's love from us. He is the enemy who destroyed God's ideal of creation.

The core of the Christian ideology that we teach is forgiveness. Then why can God not forgive Satan? God is teaching us to forgive people seven times seventy. Because Satan only committed a mistake once, why does God not forgive him? God cannot forgive Satan himself, but only men. Men are struggling hard to separate themselves from Satan. God feels pity for man in his struggle and would forgive men seven times seventy. Because Satan himself was the source of evil, God could not forgive him. Why? It is because he is the enemy of God's love. He deprived God's family of divine love, so God cannot forgive him now. But after all men are restored, and they feel like forgiving Satan, then God might in the future have to forgive Satan.

Because Satan came into being through Adam, it is only through Adam or man that God can separate him, deny him, and at last forgive him. Due to the human fall, Satan is abiding in us, in place of God. Therefore, we are the incarnation of Satan. And you are in the lineage of Satan, instead of God. This is against God's law of creation. This is why in the religious world there have been many martyrs. Even in our primitive religions men were sometimes killed as offerings or sacrifices before God. That was a symbol of shedding the satanic blood.

In order to change our satanic lineage into God's lineage, we must live an ascetic life, a life which presents difficulties and hardships. In order for men to be restored, we must go through this course. This is how God restores us. In God's eyes, we are not men of His creation. We are not human beings; we are just satanic beings in the position of His enemies. We are the children of Satan, who is God's enemy. That is the result of the human fall.

God is restoring us to our original state, and every moment of our life we must fight against satanic power. You can imagine how difficult a job it is to restore us to the position of man before the fall. In human life too, if you adopt a child from your friend, you cannot love him as your own children who are your own blood and flesh. How much more it would be with God when He is going to restore men. We are at best in the position of adopted sons and daughters to Him. And we are from satanic lineage, from the lineage of His enemy. How could God love us right away as His own children, as Adam and Eve before the fall?

In the course of restoration, God would try hard to love this man of the fall, He would place him in the position of His object, imagining that he is immaculate, and that he is going to become like Adam or Eve before the fall. Since we are the children of Satan, who is God's enemy, God naturally feels a sense of resentment towards us at first. Would it not be natural for Him? And in order for us to ease God's heart, we must receive any hardships and difficulties coming from Him. If you are found to be utterly obedient to God's will. He will feel like forgiving you. We must win the sympathy of God by going through difficulty as though it were natural to us. When we bear it, God's compassion for us will well up in His heart.

God must put us as the offering and see if we obey Him, and then we can become an acceptable offering and win sympathy from God, He can then love us. All mankind without exception is born out of Satan's lineage, so however many hardships and difficulties you have, you must go through them. Only by going through them and getting over them alone can you win the heart of God. So in the Bible we read that those who persevere to the last will win the love of God.

In human history there have been many rises and falls, with good and evil woven into this process. Through this our sins have been indemnified or cleared away, and human history has been one of restoration. However strong a faith you may have had, if at the end you fail to believe in God, you are destined to go to hell. However hard you may struggle to restore yourself, you cannot do it all by yourself, because your blood is stained by satanic lineage. Only by putting yourself in the position of a sacrifice, a living sacrifice, on the altar of God, can you be saved and restored.

Just imagine, we have our physical body, which externally shows no sign of sin, but through our limbs and every part of our body runs satanic blood. Our eyes have been more accustomed to seeing evil things. How can we restore our eyes to recognize things which are virtuous and good? How are we going to restore our five senses? And how are we going to restore our limbs and every part of our body for the purpose of goodness? Therefore, we must first deny ourselves and love God more than we do anybody else.

In God's sight, your family and your way of life must be denied before God can have His object as pure as before the fall. Therefore you cannot marry in God's sight. If you are married and have your own children, then your family and your surroundings are all elements God would grieve over. From God's point of view, they are not acceptable, and it's against the will of God.

A true religion must teach you to deny yourself and to sacrifice yourself, to drain the satanic blood out of you. Then in utter obedience on the altar of God, you utterly deny yourself and are re-created by God's hands. You may feel that you have cut the satanic bondage and separated yourself from Satan and come back to God, but the next moment you can deny God and rebel against Him. So God, will put you back to the satanic world and test you many times.

You must overcome all these things and show no sign of the fall before you will be restored and recognized by Him. Even though God may chase you away into the satanic world again, you must come back to Him in tears and in repentance. He may clear away His resentments by ill-treating you and sometimes by putting you through more hardships, and you must just cling to God without leaving Him.

You must be like a lamb. When we talk about Jesus we symbolize him as a lamb. This is because he is the representative of the whole of mankind. We are also symbolized by a lamb; we should be obedient to God. The lamb is an animal which is obedient to the call of its master, which even at the moment of death will obey him.

When God had to allow Jesus to be crucified, then at that moment God was teaching mankind how to be obedient to Him even at the moment of death. Can you understand that? Faith is important, and your actions count, but even more virtuous is your heart towards God, pure love of God. You must understand God's heart first of all. Are you in the position where you can be loved by God, and you can be relied on by God? Can God be happy with you? Can He really love you? You must understand that if God is going to love you at all, He has to go through difficulties. It is difficult for God to love you naturally.

Since we are sons and daughters of a rebellious nature we must try hard to win His heart and turn it towards us. We must clearly understand what caused Him grief, and we must reverse what we have done and restore the original state within ourselves. Isn't that true?

Our goal in the course of restoration is to work ourselves into a position better than Adam and Eve before the fall. We are in the position to have to liberate God's heart, which has been very grieving over the fall of man. Due to the human fall, His happiness has been under bondage, so we have to liberate Him and release Him from grief, relieve Him. Without knowing this fact, all the Christians or men of any other religion have been always asking God to liberate them and do this and that for them without having the notion of our having to liberate God instead.

The Unification Church was created on this earth with that mission, to liberate God's heart. The most important question or problem is how to relieve His heart by restoring ourselves on the individual level, family level, nationwide level, and worldwide level. What God wants is not the world as it is, not Christianity as it is. He wants the world and Christianity and His people to liberate His heart, knowing the fact that His heart is bound in grief, or by sorrow. How many Christians have there been who thought of that? Has there ever been such a nation of God's choice where people have been thinking of liberating God's heart from sorrow?

There must be a religion where they teach the grief of God and whose people feel such grief, and then teach others how to liberate God's heart. That kind of religion is needed. First of all, one man must be restored to the position of Adam before the fall, without sin, and through him a family without the fall must be erected, and a tribe, nation, and then the whole world. That is what God wants, and without that single man, no other thing will be usable in God's hands in the restoration course.

A son may become rebellious, leave home, but later return and bring billions to his Father but in order for God to be consoled, the son must come back to Him with more piety and obedience, and unless His son does that, His resentment cannot be cleared away.

In a family, too, if a wife loses the love from her husband, she is such a miserable being however many carats are in her diamond ring. If her husband's love is away from her, she cannot restore the love by money, by wealth. But what is more important than the diamond is love.

The Messiah's mission is to restore God's love. Jesus had this mission, and the Lord of the Second Advent will carry out this same mission. The mission of the Unification Church is to restore our love towards God, then restore God's love for us. In our movement we are not advocating liberating ourselves first, but liberating God's heart and winning His love. When you join the movement, at the very beginning, God's sentiment or sense toward you must be like that towards Satan. You are not different from Satan at the beginning. God would want out of you the love which would be more than your love for anyone else, so that His resentment can be cleared away.

We can draw the conclusion that even our Master has been put into a difficult position by God, and he sometimes was rejected by God and put into a more difficult position, but he would go back to God's bosom and just cling to Him in prayer and in love, and then He would accept him. But a little while later He would send him back to satanic hands to go through more tribulations and hardships, and getting over those things he would go back to God. And so many times he has had such things happen to him.

It is good for us to win more membership and have our movement known throughout the nation and throughout the world, and we will be happy, of course, to win the whole world, but more than anything else and before those things, what I have in mind is how to clear away the resentment and grief of God's heart, and then alone we can rejoice with Him. My motto has been, "I must be in the position of the most miserable being in the whole world in place of the whole mankind, so that God's grief and resentment may be cleared away through me." My standard is to become the most miserable person in the world in order to liberate God's heart from grief, and in that situation I must grieve over all things that are evil. That's the only way to win the love of God.

Then what our attitude is before death is always the question. You must prepare yourself to die hundreds and thousands of times for Him, for God. If you are ready to die thousands of times for the sake of God, and you never complain, and you are grateful to become the living sacrifice for Him, or even dying being the sacrifice for Him, then God's heart will be liberated.

I was in the position to have to be grateful to God even though I was denied by my nation and ill-treated by several other nations, and I must go through three satanic regimes to win the heart of the government people and restore them, at least three nations. In that sense, I am the most miserable person and pitiable person in the whole world.

In the face of tribulation I turned off my five senses. I have eyes to see, but I would pretend not to see. I have all the sensations, more than anyone else, but I would just shut off all those senses, never feeling bitterness for what I am going through. So the restoration of your heart towards God is the first problem. Without your restoring your heart towards God, God does not come into a close relationship with you. Only after doing this can you be accepted by God and recognized by Him.

I am the person who has gone through untold difficulties in my spiritual fight and I defeated Satan in that final battle. You don't know all the facts. After winning over myriads of devils, then they would come to their knees under me, and in unity with them I could win the hearts of the sages and saints, all the predecessors who had lived on this earth; and by going through martyrdom and difficulties

I did a portion of God's course. In that way I could win the heart of God. In that sense, I can well claim victory for the Unification Church. In a sense God has not made the Unification Church, but I did. It is because when I had to fight against the myriads of devils in the spirit world, God did not come to rescue me, and He did not help me at all. He would leave me in satanic hands, and after my victory over them alone, then God came to me and blessed me. Can you understand it?

In the beginning Adam rebelled against God on his own, so in the course of restoration a man in the position of Adam must restore himself alone, without help from God. Before my doing this, God was so cold and almost cruel to me, leaving me in satanic hands, never helping me out. From time to time I could go to God with the spoils I had obtained in the battle against Satan, and then alone He would be bless me, praise me and love me.

I am sure there are many here today who don't now what I have gone through. God would promise me a certain thing -- very desirable, and then He would drive me into satanic hands, and then after I overcame Satan alone God would bless me and never in the course has He once helped me. He would put me once on the pinnacle of the thing where there is a happy promise and would just drop me into the valley of death.

In coming before God, if you feel that you deserve God's praise and deserve God's love, you are a failure. After unifying the spirit world by fighting against Satan, then in this world too I would come into the valley of death and win stage by stage and win the first prize and then, going back into a deeper valley, win a higher position. That's what I have been going through. Sometimes God would have one nation representing the whole world beat against me or smite me. Individuals would rebel against me, and organizations, groups, churches, and any society. There have been many such things always coming against me. But I always feel challenged against the rebuffs coming to me because I know that the chastisement is coming from God and that the test is either coming from God or Satan, and by my going over those things alone I can identify myself before God.

If any individual would come to smite me, and I, instead of being smitten, would defeat them and I am left sane and intact, I win. If any family would come against my family and try to injure me, we would just remain intact, and then I would have won that goal, that level of things. And if any church, any tribe, any nation would come against me, I would keep myself intact and defeat them, and then alone I could win that level of victory.

Then God would tell me, "You are qualified to have a family under you, to have this under you, or that under you. So you are qualified to have the nation under you, to have the whole world under you." Can you understand?

Around the personage of Master, who has gone through these difficulties, our movement has developed, and we find ourselves to be a world renowned group. But at first I had to win Korea as a nation, and after a fierce battle and tribulations and persecution in Korea, and after our getting over those things (even in the Christian churches their hearts turned in favor of us, and even the government came to the realization that they cannot go on without our group), then alone I could come over to the United States, and in 1971 to develop our project here. This is how we came up to the year 1972.

What I have done in Korea could clear away the resentment of God, both God and Jesus, and in that way I won the goal which God would have had Jesus win in his lifetime. Having done that much; I could come over to the United States to open the gate to the world here in the leading nation of the world.

Due to the failure of John the Baptist and Jesus I had to redo many things, but my mission was primarily to start on the worldwide level. If Jesus had accomplished his mission at that time… Internally, God has been preparing His people, and externally He prepared the democratic world, and both in the democratic world and even in the Christian world, not to speak of the Communist world, corruption came about, so they are doomed to decline while we are destined to rise. That's God's preparation for us. God has done this. For whom has God done this? (For us)

Since Jesus all Christians have gone through so many difficulties to widen and evangelize the people of the world, so why does God allow the Christians to be corrupted? This is the reason: God has done it in preparation for us.

Even in democracy, even in the world of Christianity, the way that they have been doing things will not do in God's providence, so they are doomed to decay, and then our way will be easier. As soon as I arrived in the United States in the year 1972 I started my move towards the outside world. That means I made my public appearance and spoke to the people. In my speeches I was in a mood to attack Christianity as a whole. When they were helpless without being able to counter-attack, we set up the standard of victory there. Those who are disillusioned by the established churches have been looking for something and they would have their eyes opened and might think that our group and Reverend Moon is the one.

By this day last year, I had done a certain number of things to be able to set up the day of celebration of victory. Why could I set up this kind of day last year? It is because there came into being the focus point where I had to concentrate my efforts, and then it was done. With that much done I was entitled to set up the day, by relieving God's heart and clearing away His resentment to a certain extent.

My belief and declaration is, since I have cleared away the resentment of God to a certain extent, that a certain degree of external victory should be claimed; and that's why I set up the day of victory, the day of celebration of the victory. After the day of victory last year up to the present moment, I was able to pave another way broader and smoother, and I at last won the heart of the President of the United States, so that we now have a good relationship.

Christianity in the United States represents all Christians in the world, so when we work here to win the hearts of the Christian people in this country, it means we are coping with Christians all over the world. This is true for whatever level we are on. For instance, we go over things on the individual level and win the heart of God; after my having done this, the heart of God is there abiding on that level. And after winning the family level, I, at the same time, win the heart of God on that level. I have gone through the national level, and I'm now working on the worldwide level.

We are transcendent of national boundaries; and we are cosmopolitan in our composition, forming another nation, another tribe under God. We don't have a foothold geographically, but we are a different species of men forming another tribe, a new tribe under God.

On this continent, when the nation was formed and founded, people gathered here from all corners of the earth; they lived together as a nation transcending national boundaries, and they have formed the Christian world. But now that the Christian world is being corrupted, we are the new pioneers of the new world being formed under God's love, and if we can clear away the resentment of God and win the heart of God and plant His heart among ourselves and form a nation, a spiritual nation, then we can win the ultimate victory.

More than the Christian world in this United States, we win the heart of God, and we have Him abiding in us. Then we aroused the attention of the Christian people in this nation, and through the years 1973 and 1974 the established Christian churches have come against us. But God would charge us to dash forward onto the battlefield to defeat them. God would have us overcome those people, and this is the first time in human history that this kind of thing has ever happened. We are advancing forward with the battle cry from God; at the time of Jesus, if Judaism would have been in accordance with God's will, Jesus could not have failed. And if the chosen nation of Israel were cooperating with Jesus, they could not have failed. But since they all failed, it is our job to do what they left unaccomplished.

Korea and the United States are in the position of Israel and Egypt in Jesus' day. Christianity is in the position of the Judaism of 2,000 years ago, and the democratic world is in the position of the chose nation of Jesus' time. Our situation is like Jesus'. The Christian situation is like Judaism's. Do you understand me? We are in the position of Jesus, while the Christian world is in the position of Judaism at the time of Jesus.

What has never happened in human history is happening here. A man, Mr. Moon, born in Korea, will accomplish his mission of restoring the whole world, and he is now in the United States and counter-attacking the Christian world, which God has supported until this moment. Out of their corruption, a new life is springing. People will soon realize that Reverend Moon's being here and working here will change the history of America and of the whole world. It is the first time in America's history that a foreigner is working to change this nation and the rest of the world.

I have set up the record of having received so many proclamations from the governors and mayors of the United States. It is a historical event. And it has been done in God's will, and that's what made me famous. From now on, we work from the top level. You can imagine what will become of us after five years, if we go on like this. Untold changes will take effect.

Internally, we will solidify ourselves and then win the Christian world, and then the whole nation will understand our ideology. When I made a brief visit back to Korea in May and April, in Korea on the first of May -- I set up the Day Of Victory Over Resentment on May 1st. Up to the present moment, due to the human fall, human history had to go in a reverse way, but we are now at the crossroad, and our way is destined to rise, while the other way, the satanic way, is doomed to fall.

On the internal level, we won the heart of God abiding in us, and on the external level we are winning the hearts of the people of the United States, which signifies our winning the hearts of the people of the democratic world. Before long great changes will come about; and we will clear away God's resentment. We expect many people will come into our movement very soon. I know that. Even without my being here, working here, that will be done. And if I leave this country, how you handle these people is your chief concern.

You must be so trained as to be able to handle them, so I am going to put you through very hard training. Can you endure such hard training? (Yes)

I know you have been well trained, seeing that you can even sit on the floor like this, while you are more accustomed to sitting on chairs. You must practice crawling and standing upside down, and all sorts of things. If I tell you to look up at the sky and walk, you must obey me. You must make yourself different from other people. The United States is the only place where we can train people from all over the world like this. This place is the best suited. It took God 6,000 years to provide for us the democratic world, where we can work more easily. But the democratic world will pass away. It will not last long.

The problems surrounding Nixon's administration are one of the signs. When the world is being corrupted and decaying, in the sea of the world we will cast our anchor. Then God will get hold of one end of the rope and will lead us somewhere. After some tribulation in the United States when the clear weather comes, God will drive us to goals in the mild wind. As the current or tide goes, we will ride on the tide to the final goal.

The people of the United States may get hurt by what I am saying, but what I am saying will be realized. However great are the people working in the Senate and the House of Representatives, they will need me sooner or later.

To ordinary eyes it must be very strange that even American boys and girls applaud me when I say this. You applauded because you are confident that I can carry out the job. You know you can recognize what I have done in three years. And what I've done in three years in the United States is an unbelievable record. It has not been quite three years, but barely one year and eight months. Seeing what I have done in these few months, you can well imagine what I can do in the future.

In Korea the government at first rejected me and then was fearful of me, and then accepted me. In Japan the same thing happened. At first in the United States the government did not like me. They rebelled against me. But they are in fear of me more or less now. It is because we are doing extraordinary things, and they will in the future accept us and recognize us. It is of great significance that we set up the day of celebration for victory this day last year, and again set up the day of victory over resentment in Korea. It can be adopted by our movement here too.

When I set up the day of victory over resentment in Korea I brought it back here and granted it to you. By setting up those days, we have been elevated to a certain level in spiritual significance. But in the outside world they will never realize that, and even in our movement you people cannot quite understand what it really means. But now that I have explained it, you must know and accept and realize all those things and be rejoicing with me. I am quite a success in the United States, too. Isn't that right?

But this has not been done by me alone; God did it for me, or God did it in cooperation with me. We have won the hearts of the people of the United States, but we must win the hearts of the government officials, so the heart of the whole country must be with us. After your winning 500 members in each state, you will see what I am going to do. Then without a doubt, I can move the Senate and the House of Representatives and all the people of the United States. Thank you.

You must be desperate in keeping pace with me. When I make big strides, can you walk that way? (Yes) If because of the high-heeled shoes you wear you cannot walk in big strides, you must take them off and walk or run barefooted. Americans would like to take off their clothing and the streakers -- you know what the streakers do. But in a way, we must become heavenly streakers... (laughter, applause) whenever needed.

We must go beyond person to person witnessing and go to groups. We must witness by groups. I am buying many boats for certain purposes. I bought two yachts. Whenever I begin to do a new thing, you don't understand what I'm going to do with those things, but I will do this and that and then you will see my putting all those together to work for a certain purpose. Do you realize that I am versatile, gifted in many ways? (Yes)

If I am in the business world, I could have been a millionaire. I have a special measure to recognize things. I have foreknowledge of whether I'm going to win or not, to be a success or failure. By merely looking at you, I know what you are thinking of and what kind of dispositions you have, each one of you. I can look at America as a whole and the destiny of the nation. Can you believe it? (Yes) If you cannot believe it, try to believe me. Sooner or later it will be too late for you to believe me.

Without your even knowing me that deeply, just look at the fact that in Korea and Japan, by believing in me, they had attained the goal to a certain level, and you can follow their example. The fact of our having set up the day of celebration for the victory, and the day of the victory over resentment is of great significance in the history of the providence of God, and we must put the ideal behind them into practice.

From now on, what you struggle to attain will be yours, not for indemnity. Do you understand me? (Yes) The terminology we are using here cannot be understood by outside people. Newcomers won't understand what we are saying. So we cannot succeed in this movement without the knowledge of the Divine Principle.

With the victory we have so far won, we have to dash forward with even more zeal and energy, and then we can pave a broader and smoother way from this point on. Are you confident to do that? If you are really confident, will you please hold up your hands and pledge before God? Thank you. Shall we pray? (Master's prays)

The way has various meanings -- the road we tread on in actuality, and the road we tread on in a spiritual sense, or the way of life, the way of so many things. There are many actual ways on which you tread, and when you think of the way you think of the way to go back home, the way to the school, or the way to your office. But most of all, you must be thinking of the way of life.

We search for ways of higher dimension, and more than anything else, we are looking for the way of a teacher, whose example we want to follow. If you are looking for someone to follow, you must have the way to meet him. In our everyday circumstances, we must have ways to be connected with other people. The way we speak of in the abstract sense means the way we tread upon in our life.

I must again say that there are ways through which we can be connected with each other. There is the way of filial piety, way of loyalty, and the way of following any person above you. This kind of way is the path through which we approach someone. Also, we cannot but think about the way of the United States towards the end of the world. There is the way for all mankind to tread upon. So, we have the starting point and the goal, and the way is in between. There are circular ways, too. For instance, when the heavenly bodies move, they move in their orbits.

There are many such ways, but roughly divided, there are true ways and false ways. We must be able to choose true ways, and without going through those ways, we cannot go anywhere. Within the religious world there are many ways -- Christian ways, Buddhist ways, and Moslem ways, all of which are different from each other. Then what must be the true way of life? On the way we must use our five senses in their truest way. There are many such ways of using our senses. Our way of life does not last only during our lifetime, but through all eternity.

If there are many ways, would you choose the short cuts, or the longer ways? In the abstract sense, when you choose to go the way of life, you want to find the shortest possible way. But in a nation -- you can call a nation rich if it has its long ways paved. We can call that nation a powerful nation. When you have your way of life ahead of you, would you want to have your life short? (No) If you must go an actual distance, you want to find the shortest way possible, but if there are richness and abundance in the way of life, you sometimes prefer to go the roundabout way to enjoy yourself.

What I want to teach you, the Unification members, is to choose the right way out of the many possible ways. In our movement we advocate our going along the way headed for the goal, which is a long way away from us. We must go through the individual level of things, family level of things, national level of things, and worldwide level of things in order to reach God. So we have a long way to go until we reach the cosmic level of things, and then we reach God. Then if you are going to meet God, would your way end there? No, from then on you must probe into the heart of God.

When you go to meet God, you want to go the shortest possible way, in order to meet Him in the nearest possible future. But after having met God, if there is any way you should tread together with Him, you would choose a long way. When you are headed for some goal or when you are going to meet a certain person at some point, you want to find the shortest possible way, but when you have met him, then you want to live the longest possible number of days with him.

When you want to go a certain way, would you prefer to have your goal something bad, or something good? There is no question to that. You are looking for something good as your goal. There are evil ways and good ways. When you tread on a certain pathway, if there is a promise that you can meet God earlier, you can define it to be a good way. Otherwise, it's a bad way.

As I said before, if your goal is fixed and you want to meet a certain person there, the shortest possible way is the best way. Before you joined this movement, the ways you had been treading were different from each other. Some have gone through the way which is short, and some have trodden longer ways, in which you had to run or dash along the way when time was up. For instance, in order to come to this meeting today, some of you woke up early in the morning at dawn, began to prepare your mind at that time, and then you came here in time for the meeting. But some others, even though they also came in time for the meeting, got up late so that they had to rush to the meeting. Those who woke up late and just had to rush here are not really prepared for the meeting. Which of the two would you prefer to become?

When you are prepared for a longer period of time than other people, it means you have already been with the goal. Even though these two kinds of people came to the meeting on time, those who have long been preparing for the meeting have already been with Father. So, those people have been with Father, even before coming to the meeting, which is very important. But those who had to rush to the meeting without any preparation are the ones who have been with him for less time than the others. In covering a certain distance, it is your attitude of mind which will define whether it is a good or bad way. Your attitude, or your spiritual posture, is what counts.

If you have something good ahead of you, if you have some person whom you respect or admire somewhere ahead of you, your mind rushes ahead and you want to dash to him or to that place. If you come here reluctantly, your harvest, or what you gain here, will be less than that of those whose minds were already prepared and who came with willingness. If you are reluctant to go the way, even though you take a short cut, after reaching the goal you feel that you have trodden a long, long way. But if your mind is prepared and you are anxious to see the person, reach goal, then you feel as though you have gone the shortest possible way. Isn't that true? (Yes)

Our goal in the Unification movement is to go to the Heavenly Kingdom. Those who are going the way willingly, however long the distance be, feel as though it is just nothing. But to others it looks as though it were thousands of miles. If you were in the position of the way, what type of people would you prefer to have treaded on you -- reluctant people or willing people? If you hate to go on the way, the way or the road itself wouldn't like you, would hate you. But even though the road is bumpy, if when you tread on it, you feel stimulated or challenged, singing along the way, and even feeling like consoling the way itself, then the way will welcome you and will love you.

Anything or any persons love those who love them. If you hate them and are unwilling to have them, they will feel the same towards you. Then we can safely draw the conclusion that if you tread upon a way willingly, it turns out to be a good way, but if you are reluctant to go the way, however good a way it might have been, it turns out to be an evil way. So your attitude and posture of mind are what matter.

If you are a student who just hates to go to school, hates to leave home in the morning, and complains all the way to school, then the school itself, if it had a spirit, would hate you. You will be repelled by the school and you will flunk. But suppose there is a student who early in the morning when he wakes up thinks of school, and when he has his breakfast he is so eager to finish it and dash off to school. He eagerly prepares his lessons for that day, and is just so anxious to go to school. Then even the school itself will welcome him.

Both male members and female members are present. There is also the way of matrimony, and if you are looking for your mate, would you do that reluctantly, or willingly? Suppose you go most willingly on the way to look for your mate, but after you are married if you just mistreat each other and neglect each other, then would that do? (No) In their married life, if a couple is happy together, loving each other in harmony and unity, then their garden, the creation around them, and all their surroundings would rejoice with them. That is the very place which we call the Kingdom of God. But suppose there is a couple who fights every morning, frowns at each other, nags at each other, then however beautiful a garden they have, all the creation and their surroundings will frown upon them.

Then what must be the best way of life, one which will be eternally happy? That is the way headed for the Kingdom of God. What must the way to the Kingdom of Heaven look like-long or short, wide or narrow, rough or smooth? It is long, narrow, rough, and steep. In describing the way to the Kingdom of Heaven, we can apply every adjective possible which can describe bad or disagreeable things. That's why the Bible verse says that the way to the Kingdom is narrow: "...the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many...," but "...the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few."

I must also say that those who are going the way of death go on the way smilingly, while those who are headed for the Kingdom of Heaven, finding the way to be narrow and bumpy, frown and complain. But I would prefer to have you go the way smilingly, too. My description is that the way to death begins as a wide and well paved road, and you go along gaily, rejoicing as you go. But it becomes progressively narrower, steeper and bumpier. On the other hand, the road to heaven, when you start, seems bumpy and narrow, but it becomes wider and more smoothly paved towards the end. Do you understand the way of the Kingdom of Heaven?

If you have the clear picture of what the way towards the Kingdom of God is like, all should be settled in your mind. If you find the way which is rough and bumpy, it is safe for you to choose that way, and you can be reassured that as you go along the way will become wider and more paved. The promise is there, and we cannot but believe that the way will be wider and smoother. So if you choose the rough way or the narrow way, you are a wise person.

If you choose the narrow, bumpy way, you will want to get over the bumpiness as soon as possible. Then you can dash along the way, taking the rebuffs as a challenge. On the way to destruction, you go along the way lazily, singing as you go, but as you get to the goal, it becomes bumpy, and you can neither give it up nor turn away from it. Certain difficulties will inevitably come to you, so why not overcome them at the soonest possible date? So you must be prepared to welcome the difficulties and hardships.

When we look for a religion to follow, we must search the entire religious world to find the most difficult way. Every religion, in fact, teaches you to go a narrow way. Out of all the scriptures of the various religions, the Christian Bible points to the narrowest way, I think, because it teaches you to deny yourself, to be prepared to lose your life. If that most difficult religion also teaches you to unite the whole world, then that makes it an even more difficult way.

You are members of the Unification Church. Out of all Christian churches, we are not a denomination, but are advocating that all denominations should come into oneness -- unity. Therefore, you can define our movement to be the most difficult way. Then would you think this is the best way, or the worst one? (Best) But is our way smooth or bumpy? (Bumpy) Here you have no time to sleep, no time to rest, no time to relax, no time even to eat, no time to play. Knowing this, will you go along the way unwillingly, crying on the way? (No) If you are going at all, why not go smilingly? If you go reluctantly, complaining along the way, then the way itself, however high a dimension it is in, will hate you and frown upon you. I suppose there are many here who just go the way complaining, saying to yourself, "Oh, what have I done in joining this movement? Since I found that it is the best way or the ultimate way, I cannot give it up, but the way is so difficult. I could have joined later on when the way is more paved."

If you can dodge past the way, avoid the way, or escape from it, so much the better. But in the long run you must come back. This is the ultimate way upon which everyone must tread. Once again, it is your attitude which matters. You are branded as Unification members. On your foreheads I see the signs of your membership. Your attitude in going the way is the question. Would you prefer to sing along the way or just go crying and complaining? (Singing) I want you to be good workers on the path.

This is a historical moment, and you must go beyond your predecessors, go beyond those saints and sages who have trod the same difficult ways. You can fancy yourself being more than those saints and feel proud of yourself. For instance, if you are faced with difficulties, in your imagination you can say, "What must have Confucius done at this point? He must have failed, but I can go on and overcome these difficulties." You can compare yourself with Jesus Christ, and feel you can be greater than Jesus himself. You can even compare yourself with your Father in heaven, God, and you can be like Him, at least. When you think of how God would go over an obstacle, you must be ready to follow Him in your imagination, and in actuality you can carry it out.

For the early morning pledge service, even my smallest son must get up. This morning after the ceremony, the children went to bed again and I had to wake up Hyo-Jin. He just complained and frowned and finally crawled out of bed reluctantly. Then I whispered in his ear, "Are you proud of being my son, or not?" He frowned and laughed at the same time. It is because he's far too immature to realize what this means.

What about you? If you complain that the meeting is too early -- "Oh, well, it could be seven o'clock," thinking the next moment, "Oh, it would be better to have the meeting at eight. On Sundays, we could have it at nine. Why not ten? Why not eleven? Well, on Sundays we could have all morning free. Why not have it at twelve o'clock?'' And in that way, you would just idle away the time.

With complaint, you cannot digest all the difficulties; you cannot embrace them. There are many ways of thinking, and if you think of things the other way around, you can say, "Oh, if we have the meeting at six o'clock, then we can save more hours, making a longer day." If you expect to have the meeting at six o'clock and you are told to come at seven o'clock instead, you feel relaxed and joyful. When you are told to come at eight o'clock, so much the better; nine o'clock-you are happier; ten o'clock-you are still happier; and eleven o'clock-you will rejoice happily.

I know that each one of you is destined to be here. Your destiny can either be a good one or a bad one. But by now you know you have chosen the best way. Isn't that true? (Yes) Without your being aware of the fact, you have been looking for the way, seeking the way, and you have now reached the goal to meet our Father. Now that you have met him, if you are reluctant to go the way and live the way with him, what would God think of you? After meeting him, would you just sit around idly with folded hands, without doing anything? (No) Real happiness begins when you go the way with him, instructed by him, following him.

As I said before, your goal is to meet God, and after meeting God you are apt to think that that's the end of the road. But to live with Him, to follow His instructions, to go the way of His providence, are things of higher dimension and of greater difficulty. If you abide in Him and He in you, whenever you are faced with difficulties you are consoled by Him. You can go along the way consoling His heart, too, and by encouraging each other you can happily go the way and live with Him.

You are connected with God through Master, and with God, Master, and yourself, united into one you can easily go along the way, being encouraged by him. You can be zealous and full of energy, and on the way you can be consoled. If you see anything bad happening to him, you will feel some pain in your heart and you will dash to him. And from his part, being in the parent's position, if you are in difficulties, would he not dash to help you and come to your rescue? If you are really in the relationship of parents and children with him and his family, when they are in difficulties or when his heart is in sorrow, would you be hilarious and gay? Or when he is happy, would you prefer to be sunk in grief and depression? You must feel the same way as he does. You must have a common feeling with him.

When our church has problems or difficulties and you look just at it like bystanders, then you are in the position of neighbors or onlookers, but not in the position of a member. Our way must be trod in the collective way, however difficult and bumpy the road be. Unless you are like that, you cannot call yourselves members, or brothers and sisters.

Nowadays, couples want to live all by themselves, without their parents or other members of the family. But our ideology is different. If you are really a harmonized, loving couple, and if you want to be in the central point with bearings in all directions, you must have your parents, relatives, and friends, neighbors all around you, as the fence protecting you. But it's complicated, and I think the women members wouldn't like the idea, and would want simpler ways. Which would you prefer simpler ways, or a more complicated way, like what Father described? Wouldn't the women folks choose to have a simple home with their husband alone, without any relatives around? (No) But before joining the movement, haven't you been that way? (Yes) Then I'm sure the Unification Church has changed your attitude.

Then if your husband, for instance, would just drag you this way and that way because it is God's providence, and drive you hard, would you still like it? (Yes) I wonder what Mother's answer to that question would be? I am always having her do this and that. She has no time to rest. When you think that male members are in the subjective position, and especially after you have married your husbands are in the subjective position and I will have them to push you hard, would you like that idea? (Yes)

The women members must be prepared to follow your husbands in that way, and the male members, whatever sweet things your wife want you to do for her, you must be able to drag her along the way. Very often on the way of the providence your husbands even seem cruel to you to demand so many difficult things of you. In that case, I will be sympathetic with you, so be courageous and go along the way. In a way, you will be pitiful and miserable, but your descendants will tread on the way which has been paved by you.

Strangely enough, whenever we expect a new baby, I can almost see his face and describe his character and disposition, I fancy this baby to be better than the ones I already have. It proves to be true, and after his birth I find every characteristic of that kind in the baby. It happens that way when I not only pray for that, but accept anything difficult for the providence of God in place of the blessedness coming to me. Then without doubt that blessedness comes. So in proportion to what you go through, and in proportion to the difficulties you overcome, the blessedness coming to you will be greater.

In trying to become one with each other, if you keep putting more stress on yourselves, can unity come about? No cooperation will be there; no harmony and unity will be there. But you must first of all deny yourselves and compromise, and then come into oneness. You must dissolve yourself away, and you must melt into one. You must become like water in order to really become one. In this movement, if you draw a line in which to confine yourself, then you cannot open the door of your heart to reach other people, to associate with them, and to become one with them. In order to become one with others, you must first of all be dissolved into watery form.

In Christianity, we advocate repentance. To repent means to dissolve yourself. You must not keep yourself solid. When you are dissolved into water, there must be nothing which will characterize you from others. Even though you are as hard as steel when you are melted away in the melting pot you must be dissolved into watery form, liquid form. Unless you do that, God cannot forge you into a new shape. If you are like water, if you are like liquid, then you are not confined to a certain form characteristic of your old self, and you can be newly created.

Water can permeate, can infiltrate, and can adhere to you easily. We have members from many nations, from many races, from many cultural and family backgrounds. But unless you become like water, how can we become one? Can a certain pool of water say, "I don't want the other water," or say, "I don't want black people," "I don't want white people, yellow ones" -- can you say that if you are in the position of the water? (No) So first of all, I want you to dissolve yourself into the form of water. Then you must leave yourself in God's hands and in the hands of the True Parents, and they will reshape or remodel you.

If you are melted steel, for instance, could you ask to have a certain form? When the pattern is set, would you want the forger to press hard, or just at random? (Hard) He must hammer upon you, like a blacksmith would. What makes the Japanese sword famous is that the manufacturer will beat upon it so many times, even for many years. He will put it back into the fire to make it fiery red, put it into cold water and beat upon it, then put it back into the fire again, and thus the same procedure is repeated many times. So in proportion to how many times the sword is beaten upon, its quality is enhanced.

You are to become a flaming sword, so would you want to become an inferior sword or a good one which is sharp and cuts well? (Sharp) It sounds simple, but it is not as simple as it sound, and the procedure is more complicated than you would imagine. I am the blacksmith who will beat you as hard as possible and as many times as possible. No one else can do the job but me. Do you understand me? (Yes) Would you want it that way? (Yes)

If you really want it, I will do it to you. I am only the blacksmith who is doing that for you, and you will profit from my toil. The same thing is true with God. When He wants to make you into new persons, He will forge you, beat upon you, and make you strong enough so that no Satan can invade you or deform you. You must first of all melt down into liquid form, and as it is cooled and the blacksmith beats upon you, you must not repel Him. You must be soft enough to be beaten and to be formed into whatever shape He would want to have you.

God owns a treasure of untold value, for which He has labored and toiled. But He wants someone to inherit it, and that someone must work harder than He has. Unless you feel that you must work harder, He is not ready to give it to you. Suppose you have done almost everything possible and just one thing is left, but you say," Well, that is the only thing I can't afford to do," and you give it up. Then God will never give you His treasure. People are apt to give up right at the threshold of being given the treasure.

What about you? Can you do just anything and everything without leaving any one thing which you cannot tackle? (Yes) Suppose one of the girls is told to remain an old maid, never marrying but just going on the way of providence. What would you do? (Go) But when your eyes see other people being blessed and leading happy married lives, would you still not complain? (Yes) If you are left all by yourself, prepared to remain single all through your life, even though all other people are married and not a single one is there beside you, God's creative power can even create a husband for you, an ideal one. If you are far above other people in following God's way, then even by going beyond the principle of creation, God can create a new husband for you. It's possible. If your faith in God is that strong, there's nothing impossible for Him to do for you.

There are many tests ahead of you, and the tests are difficult, without exception. I have gone through a lot of suffering and tribulation in my life to build this tradition, and if I am going to will it to you, I am looking for someone who is like me. If you were in my position, would you not choose one who is ready to go through difficulties? I would like to choose one who would love the providence, love the will of God more than I have. Can you understand me? (Yes) When we will have won vast membership, I even imagine, or plan in my mind to choose ten out of each nation and have them go through a difficulty contest. I will put them together and give them difficult tests, through which I at last will choose three. Then I will finally choose one out of the three by testing them with problems of utmost difficulty. Wouldn't I do that in order to choose the best one out of so many?

If there is anyone at all in our movement who I can love through eternity, that one must be the person who is ready to deny himself and even be willing to be killed for the sake of God's will. Then would you object to God, saying, "Oh, no, your will cannot be killing people. I don't want to die." -- Can you say that? (No) Put yourself in the position of Isaac. If his father, Abraham, saw disobedience in the child, would he have been able to offer him as an acceptable sacrifice? If he had complained and said, "Oh, no, father, you cannot kill me; I hate you,'' then could he have been acceptable, a good sacrifice? (No) In the face of the crucifixion, if Jesus had complained, saying, "You cannot leave me like this. I don't want to die," and if he had fought against the situation in disobedience, then could God have given him the way of spiritual salvation? (No)

I have explained this in order for you to realize the situation we are in, and on what road we are traveling. If our way is bumpy, with many ups and downs, what kind of a way must it be? It is the way to the kingdom of heaven, which I must again tell you, is the most difficult way. Did Jesus go to the heavenly kingdom? No, he is waiting in paradise for the heavenly kingdom to open. He is in the waiting lounge. With His only son living in paradise, or the waiting lounge, do you think God is living in the Kingdom of Heaven? (No) Then it means there has never been one who really entered the Kingdom of Heaven. The road to the kingdom of heaven was not traveled until now, and has remained a bumpy, difficult way. You have stepped out onto the road, and are now somewhere on the way.

Which is easier, the way to become the President of the United States, or the way to the kingdom of heaven? (President) There are many ways for you to become the President of the United States. It's not so difficult compared to the way to the kingdom of heaven. You must have the clear picture of how difficult the way to the kingdom of heaven is. Then it is safe for you to choose that way. It is the most difficult way, and the longest one. Are you confident to attain the goal? (Yes) Then go ahead.

You must go beyond the level of the individual, family, tribe, and nation. You must go beyond your nation of the United States, go through the world, and then reach God, the last point. You must even go through the spirit world to reach God. Are you confident to win over myriad of spirit men, and evil power in the spirit world? (Yes) How can you do that without knowing what they are like? Without understanding spiritual phenomena you cannot go there.

This is the most difficult way, yet you have no other way to choose. If you don't travel on this way now, the way will still be left before you even in the spirit world. It's a great problem for you, and even for God. In order to make the way straight, God has been sending His prophets, and in order to make the way shorter or to pave the way, He sends the Messiah. Those passed-away sages and saints have trodden the way, filling up the valleys in order to make the way easier for you. Human history has seen the rise and fall of sovereignties, and the righteous people who have come into the world repeatedly have been martyred. They have trodden difficult ways, and by doing that they have been burying the bumpy road in order to smooth it out.

In the Korean language "pyong dong" means equality, and "pyong hwa" means peace. "Pyong" by itself means level ground, or a certain horizontal surface. So we must straighten out the way and make it smooth and level. Then who can do that? Only with God and man in cooperation with each other can such a thing be accomplished. Satan can never do that.

Behind human history God's power has been working, and nothing has been accomplished outside of His will. Sometimes, as civilizations developed, He has had to cut out some portion and discard it, or to tear down some pinnacle in order to make level ground. There has also been the rise and fall of nations. That is the way human history has been woven, and it has all been done under God's will. Through this process, the way to the Kingdom of Heaven was being paved, and then we must go on to open the gate to the Kingdom. Let us finish paving the highway to the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. Who will make the blueprint for building the highway, and who will actually work on the building of the highway? God will make the blueprint, and the Messiah will bring it into reality, building the road by finding people with whom to work. In doing this job, we must realize that we are paving the way for the whole world.

In this world we can find mountains, plains, valleys, rivers, and lakes. But as we are building the highway to the Kingdom of Heaven together with the Messiah, he will sometimes ask us to tear down mountains, bury valleys, and things like that. When those things take place, we must not complain, but just leave everything in his hands. For example, if Master will say that our house must be torn down, we must agree to that. Also, suppose there is a beautiful lake which you have been treasuring. If Master comes and wants to bury it, you must again be willing to obey him.

Suppose this highway is to be built through the United States. If the people of the United States obey him and cooperate with him and the project is carried to completion, then the other nations will be touched by this example and will concede to let him do the same thing in their countries, building the way to the kingdom of heaven. It is a difficult job to build this highway, but once it is built, then our way will be smooth and we can dash along the way by car. Most of us must play the role of the car, and we will dash along, letting people ride in us. God or the Messiah will be the driver. Are you ready to play this role? If you are in the position of a car, can you say, "I cannot go," when you are driven by the driver? If the driver steps on the accelerator, can you not but go?

The Kingdom of Heaven is the place you enter together with God and the Messiah. You play the role of the cars, and the Messiah, in place of God, will come and drive you, so that other people can ride in you. But before doing that we must pave the way. What are we doing now? We are building the highway right at this moment. In paving the road, we must bury the deep places and valleys. If there is no soil to bury these places, we must sacrifice ourselves in place of the soil. By doing that we are paving the way in this nation, and other people will come and join us, because they want to go on the smooth, paved way.

Just as you pay the toll whenever you pass a turnpike's toll gate, later on, we can collect a toll from other people. But until then, our way is a most difficult one. Are you ready to go that way? (Yes) You must realize that we are not the persons who are going to walk on the way, but we are the persons who are building the way. The road will be smoother and stronger in proportion to the energy we put into it. Our hope is that in our lifetime we can finish our job of building the way and dashing on the way with other people riding in us, and attaining the goal of the Kingdom of God on earth.

Before anyone else, the heroes, or the first inhabitants of that Kingdom of Heaven will be our Parents. Then will come their children. Only by our completing all these jobs can we really call them our True Parents. Just as Adam and Eve, without having fallen in the Garden of Eden could have called God their parent, only when we will have perfected our personality by building the way in ourselves and on every level of things, and even by reaching the end of the world, are we qualified enough to call them our True Parents. So you must again realize that the Parents are not in the position to be called the True Parents in the real sense as it now stands. Our utmost desire is to have them be called the True Parents in the truest sense, and we must exalt their dignity and their position, and have them accomplish their mission by our accomplishing our own responsibility.

At the time Adam and Eve were created, there was no such thing as an evil power or an enemy of mankind. If it had not been for the human fall, Adam and Eve could have been acceptable, wholesome human ancestors, and they could have become the True Parents to their own children. After creating a family, theirs could have been the true family to other families, their tribe to other tribes, their nation to other nations, and the whole world would have been theirs. With their names exalted, they could stand in a central position on any level -- as chief of the tribe, king of the nation, or savior of the world. But was such a thing ever realized?

We are in the vanguard of all other people, paving this way, and we are pioneering a new world with our own hands. So you must have the dignity and pride of being workers under God. After we have finished our work, paving the way for other people, then all together we can enter the Kingdom of Heaven and bring about the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.

You must realize that we are building and paving the highway towards the kingdom of heaven on earth, and we can expect many difficulties, sufferings, and tribulations on the way. If you are ready to get over those things with gratefulness and with a sense of mission, then the glory will be for you and for your descendants, and all the people in human history will remember you and praise you. I want you to have this kind of awareness in fulfilling your mission. In order for us to build the way, we sometimes have to bury lakes, tear down mountains and even build canals through the mountains. We need technology and engineering skill -- all those things are needed, so we must have people who are gifted, talented, and skilled in many ways, in many fields.

I have heard that in America people think that one must do things one at a time, and that when you are concentrating on one thing you cannot do other things. But we are so pressed for time and are such busy people that we must sometimes do two, three, or more things at a time. I have done things in that way. This is not an easy way of doing things, but in order for us to create level ground, you must do that. When you think of accomplishing things beyond what you are going through, then you must expect that some sacrifice will be needed. If you are only prepared to receive good things, then can you accomplish the goal? (No) It is safe for you to choose more difficult things which other people will abhor. We cannot expect the people in the outside world to do the job, because they don't know the way to reach the goal. Would you hate to choose the more difficult things, or can you go the way with gratefulness?

If you have that attitude, we will surely be able to build the way, which will go in every direction and cover the whole world. We must build the way so that it crosses through every nation around the world, so that people situated in every corner of the earth will be able to reach the highway and go the way to the Kingdom of Heaven. After highways are built, would you still prefer to use the narrower, bumpier roads? Then even though those smaller, narrower, bumpier roads still exist, they wouldn't be utilized, but will be discarded. In those days, even though we will warn people not to come to the highway, or even though you try to stop them from coming to our way, they will still do so. But before that ever happens, there must be pioneers who will go through the difficulties to build the highway. Do you feel that would be true? (Yes)

There have been many ways tried by other people. For example, in the Communist world they have tried their best to build a good world in which to live. In the democratic world too, and especially in the Christian nations they have gone through many ways to build a better world to live in. But they have failed to do so, and who can do the job except us? There is no other way possible, and this way is fool-proof on the individual level, family level, tribal level, national level, and worldwide level. This is the only way, the ultimate way for us to go.

Then how much work in building the road do you think we have accomplished? Where are we situated now, and how much ground have we covered? We have only covered a certain amount of territory, and have not quite placed ourselves in the central position in which to turn the axis of the world. When we will have restored a whole nation, then our way towards the world will be paved. If one nation is restored, then through the government we can reach out to other nations by sending our ambassadors. We are given the mission from heaven to restore a nation as God's nation. With so great a mission, can any one church do the job? (No)

If any one nation would receive our movement, welcome our movement, and be restored, then they are entitled to possess the whole world, and even God will come under their possession. This is how God prepared His chosen nation. This is how He has prepared the Christian world as the second Israel, but even within Christendom corruption came about. Since God can no longer place His hope in the Christian world, there must spring out a movement which will be able to carry out His will. That is the mission of the Unification Church, and as I have explained, the only way for our members to go is to pave the way to the Kingdom of God on earth.

We must build our beautiful nation which is more beautiful than the United States, more beautiful, of course, than any Communist nation. This will truly be God's nation, which can exalt God and carry out His will. Then that nation will lead other nations through the power of God's love, all other nations will willingly follow the example of that nation. For this purpose, we are now concentrating our efforts on restoring the nation of America.

Until the year 1981 we must wage an all-out battle against the evil power in this nation in order to build this nation into a God-loving and restored nation. At that time, if this nation will not receive us, then our mission must shift to another nation. You must realize the fact that this time in history will not always be with us. Therefore, you must do your very best, concentrating your efforts on building the road to the Kingdom of God on earth.

This morning my topic was "the way". We are the builders of the way, and we must expect many obstacles and difficulties on the way. We must smooth out the way by filling up the valleys, tearing down the high mountains, and paving the way in such a manner that other people can tread upon the way and reach the Kingdom of Heaven. We must do the job, and we must be doing it with gratitude. Every moment of my life I feel responsible for this mission and I want you to feel the same.

Many times, without your even knowing the fact, I am preparing things far ahead of you, planning even for a ten-year period of time. So I sometimes order you to do things all of a sudden, unexpectedly, and without your understanding the meaning behind it. But I want you to follow my instructions, and I can safely lead you to the goal. The Kingdom of Heaven is the place where we will meet God after having gone through and overcome all the difficulties and hardships. We will have paved the way for all mankind to return to God and to unite with Him in love. I want you to be resolved to dash forward on the way until this goal is accomplished. Shall we pray?

World Day actually means the Day of All Things. As you know, this is the 12th World Day we are celebrating. In the world there are days to be celebrated by individuals, by organizations, and by nations. They celebrate those days for their own sake in the worldly sense. But this is an extraordinary day which we celebrate exclusively in our own Family. There are many days to celebrate for the sake of mankind or for the sake of some nation, but there are few people-only ourselves, I think-who celebrate a day or days centered on God.

We celebrate other days, for instance, Parents' Day, Children's Day, God's Day, etc., which other people don't know about. I think we have many here who are celebrating this kind of day for the first time.

It is simple to say "World Day" or "Day of All of Things. " It sounds simple, but the story of how he has set up this day is very significant, and it is no coincidence to have this day. We celebrate Parents' Day, Children's Day, and God's Day. Were it not for the human fall, we could celebrate just one day for the whole universe. But because of man's fall, we have had to set up these several days to celebrate. When we say "days to celebrate," it means we have happy events on those dates.

There are many anniversaries to be remembered. Some are in memory of some sad event. But most of the celebration days in human society are days on which we are very happy. In the world of creation, there is no day on which we can really be happy, before God is able to be happy. And we cannot imagine all things of creation being happy before man is happy for them. If it had not been for the human fall, every day must be one in which God, man, and all things can take delight.

If Adam and Eve had not fallen but had reached maturity in God's dispensation, all things, men, and God could have taken delight in all things together, both on the horizontal and vertical levels. Had it not been for the human fall, this day could have been the day on which God, men, and all things are happiest. If Adam and Eve had not fallen, but had reached maturity, and been blessed in holy matrimony by God, that could have been the day on which God, man, and all things could have been happy, on the physical and spiritual levels, and on the horizontal and vertical levels. On that day, God could have smiled a broad beaming smile, and Adam and Eve could have smiled a big smile, and all things could have enjoyed the day. When you are happy, it doesn't end in just being happy; you will sing and dance. And we could imagine that in the Garden of Eden, the same thing could have happened. Then can you imagine what the first verse could have been in their song? They could have sung praises of God, God as the center of the universe, God as the master of all the creation, and God as our Father.

Then whose praises could Adam or Eve have? For Adam, it would have been the praise of his mate, Eve; and for Eve, in praise of Adam, her mate. The next thing they would have praised would have been all things. They could have sung the praise of all things having been created for them, the praise of the beauty and wonder of all things.

If Adam and Eve could have praised God and all things in gratitude to God, then on God's part, what things could He have praised? When Adam and Eve would have been happy like that, could God just sit still without beaming in laughter and smiles? I imagine God also would have sung songs. Then what could have been the verse of the song God could have sung? Would He have sung in praise of Himself? He would have sung in praise of His children, Adam and Eve --their beauty and maturity, and all the things that He created for His children. He could have praised those things. God could have hoped that Adam and Eve could enjoy the nature He created for them, and use and entertain all those things.

May I ask you a question? When you are happy, does it show up on your face alone, or would your whole body move about when you are happy? (Your whole body.) Then are the strands of your hair happy also? (Yes.) How do you know? Did you ask them? How do you imagine the cells are? Are they also happy? (Yes.) We have not seen them taking joy, and we have not asked them or heard them, but we know that they are happy. In God's eyes all things are like the hair on our skin is in our eyes. The hair on our skin is like all things to God.

When God and men are happy, we can well imagine that the whole world, all things are happy. They cannot just groan. Is this understandable? (Yes.) When God is happy and when men are happy, all things are happy. So when all things are happy, in what would they take delight? Whose praises could they have sung? All things as well could have been well harmonized in the joy of God and men. When we are happy, we laugh, we sing, and what else? We dance about when we are happy. Have you ever seen unfallen Adam and Eve dancing? Can you imagine how they would have danced? Have you ever learned that kind of dance in your university days? Have you heard of such a story? Then what have we seen and what have we heard? We have heard and imagined that due to Adam's and Eve's fall, men have trodden the way of sorrow and grief.

In human history there have been days on which men have been joyful, and days on which men have been sorrowful; these two kinds of days are long remembered. The fall of Adam and Eve is the most miserable day to remember, and we must be resolved not to repeat it. When we repeat the same things, the day will remain a sorrowful day; we must reverse it to a joyful day.

On the day of Adam's and Eve's fall, God was sorrowful, and all things were groaning too. Adam and Eve were sad too. So how do you imagine the whole creation was? Happy? (No.) It is natural that they were very unhappy and miserable. That's why we read in Romans 8:22, that all things have been groaning in travail together. If Master would beat you, you are sure that he does that in his affections towards you, you wouldn't feel sore; you wouldn't get hurt or feel the pain. Maybe you will look painful and say, "Ouch," but your facial expression will be the happiest.

At the time of the fall of Adam and Eve, if God had just slapped them on their cheeks, they could have felt a little relieved in their hearts; but God turned His face away and never said anything, He never did anything to them. If their sin could have been indemnified on the very spot by God beating them, it could have been much easier for men to return to God; but God could not do that. God, men, and all things had to be in utter sorrow and grief.

We have been taught by the Principle that at the moment of the human fall, men were chased out of the Garden of Eden. They ceased to be God's son and daughter; God was no longer their Father; and all things were not under their domination. They too had come into travail and were groaning over the fact that they were being dominated by the evil power, Satan, in place of God. Can you imagine that? Can you believe that was the truth?

God was omnipotent, but there was a reason for His not being able to save man at the right moment, at the very moment of man's fall. So for God, there must be an ardent desire for mankind. And what must that be? God could have assured all things and men, Here I am, still alive. So there will be a day when you can come back to me. Therefore, wait until that moment comes. " He would have said that to men and all things. God created men and all things according to the Principle of Creation, so sooner or later He would restore His children according to the Principle of Creation. The principle of re-creation must excel and not be less than the Principle of Creation.

Then who fell? It was men who fell, namely, Adam and Eve. The target of God's re-creation or restoration was also men-not all things or anything else. God's purpose was to re-create men and restore to their position before the fall. It was the goal for God and for men and for all things. Since it was men who fell, men were responsible to restore themselves and clear away resentment of both God and all things. This was the goal God had to reach, in spite of His untold sacrifice. Whatever the sacrifice they have to pay, men have to restore themselves, too. And all things are waiting for the day on which men are restored, however long it may take.

If God would ask all things, "Would you want to remain in the fallen world, under the domination of the evil power, and make some sacrifice in order to have the men restored to exercise their rightful domination over you?", they would have answered with a loud "Yes." Both men and all things are ready to sacrifice themselves in order to restore the sovereignty of God and reject or repel the satanic power ruling over them. Do you feel the same? When you are asked the same question by God, are you ready to answer, "Yes, we are ready to sacrifice ourselves in order for the day to come in which all the sovereignty is recovered by God?" If you are asked, "Are you ready to sacrifice yourself, your family, your children, your parents, and your nation for the sake of the coming day of glory on which all things are restored together with man?", what must be your answer? (Yes.) There is no doubt about that. On His part, God would say , "Yes, I am glad you are ready for that; I am going to sacrifice you and all things for the sake of the day to come in which all things are restored together with man."

Then we have the view safely implanted in us that we have to sacrifice ourselves in order to restore ourselves. God has set up religions for this plan. Every religion teaches God's love and mercy, but when you closely examine their doctrines, there are contradictions. It is a contradiction to sacrifice ourselves for glory and to shed our blood in order to be restored. In Jewish religion people offered heifers as sacrifices. Priests were responsible for killing the heifers or sheep.

In order for God to restore things of greater value, He had to have man offer something of less value than what was going to be restored. On the basis of that condition alone He could restore the thing of greater value. We know that all things are created for the sake of men, so they are less important or less valuable than man. Therefore, for man's restoration, God demanded him to offer sacrifices out of the rest of the creation. Were it not for the human fall, all things would not have had to be sacrificed like that, and they would not have wanted that to happen. But they are compelled to be offerings and sacrifices due to the human fall.

What comes next? Which men will sacrifice themselves for the restoration of mankind? All sages and saints and righteous men are conscious of their mission of restoring man for the sake of God. They were the ones who were martyred and sacrificed for the restoration of all of mankind. Especially in Christianity, many martyrs have had to shed their blood for the restoration of men. Before their martyrdom, they did not hesitate to die for the sake of the whole; this is recorded in history. But by treading on the sacrifices they made, we must go beyond their level and be saved. Without knowledge of all this, we are apt to think that God takes delight in bloodshed. If that is true, is God a God of love? But there is reason for God to have those people be sacrificed because of the human fall. God cannot but have men do that. In God's sight, who must be responsible to make the sacrifice? Can people in the satanic world be responsible for that? They cannot be an acceptable sacrifice.

God had to call His righteous men or chosen men, and when they were ready to sacrifice themselves for the sake of all of mankind, He had to see the bloodshed and martyrdom they underwent. God's Heart was grieved, but still He had to do that. It was not because God was powerless to do anything else, but there was a reason for His having to sacrifice His own people, the righteous ones, for the sake of the restoration of the rest of the mankind.

The closer we are to God, the more sacrifice we have to pay; God has to have us be sacrificed. Can you understand me? That is why we have seen righteous men being sacrificed and martyred all throughout human history. If that is the goal set before us by God, what are you going to do? Do you agree with God" Then He will tell you to shed your blood for the sake of mankind and for the goal. Are you ready to do that?

We read in the Bible that Jesus said, "Whoever seeks to gain his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will preserve it," (Luke 17:33) He said that because by your losing your life for the sake of all of mankind, you are not dead. You will be long remembered, and you are still alive among the people who are restored. That is why Jesus said this.

You answered me that you are going to be the sacrifice on the altar of God. For whom? (For God.) Next? (For the creation.) Well answered. So if you have any human feeling at all, you must feel responsible for the fall of man and be ready to sacrifice yourself to restore mankind. Have you declared you are going to do that? (Yes.)

There are still three kinds of people among you; those who will declare they will be ready to do it; those who are sacrificing themselves; and those who have already sacrificed themselves. To which category do you belong? You are supposed to choose one out of the three. If you are all three at one time, it means you are going back and forth from the past to future. If you say, "God, I have done that," it means you are still doing that. Those who have done it, I am sure you are doing it now and will continue to do that. To which category do you belong? The only one who is entitled to answer "I have done it" is God alone. That's why we must cling to God, in the past, present, and future, too. It is something like being a fly on the very tail of a galloping horse; the fly will be carried to the goal. So you must believe in God and cling to Him and be carried by Him. You say you are ready to sacrifice yourselves, but that's your own will. Can you do it all by yourselves? If you are in the position of the offering, you cannot claim that you are an acceptable offering and want to be the offering on the altar of God. There must be someone who will accept you as the offering, put you on the altar, and finally accept you.

In the Jewish religion, the priest had the qualification to kill the offering, put it on the altar, and ask God to accept the offering. There must be someone like that. However evil you may consider yourself, to be, as the offering, you cannot be accepted. There must be someone who must grab you, cut you into two, and after the bloodshed put you on the altar; then you can be accepted by God. The priest of all priests was Jesus Christ. He was supposed to put the whole nation of Israel, the chosen nation, in the position of the sacrifice. He had to sacrifice the whole nation; and the nation should not have complained, being in the position of the offering. But they did, and their disbelief caused Jesus to die in their place as the offering. God is not a person who wants to see bloodshed. But in order to save fallen men, God had to do that. Because man shed his blood, God had a reasonable condition to restore men. That's why He was forced to do that.

In our church, we are ready to sacrifice ourselves for the sake of God, all things, and men; and by being sacrificed, we can reach out to the end of the world to restore all men. So that's why we are ready for the sacrifice. Do you really understand that? You must have a clear notion of our having to sacrifice ourselves and pay the hardest indemnity that all history has ever seen. Are you ready for that? Do you really mean it? If you really mean it, please hold up your hands.

Then what are we going to restore by our being sacrificed? What is the purpose of our being sacrificed? What is the restored man like? Before he can be the father, he must be Adam and Eve before the fall. The messianic hope was God's promise to send someone who has nothing to do with sin-Adam without the fall, one with the original status of man before the fall. All throughout human history, God's endeavor was to send such a man or re-create such a man. Do you really miss the original Adam, the Adam without the fall? How much do you want to meet Adam? How much do you want to meet such a person, an Adam without the fall? If you have a choice to make, and your parents are dying, but you must go out to meet the Adam without the fall, somewhere right at that moment, would you leave your dying father and mother? Even though your parents would cling to you and say, "Don't leave me," you must go. Instead, it is very desirable for the dying parents to say, "Leave me alone. I am dying anyway, but you must go and meet that person. " That kind of parents are wonderful parents. If there is some loved one of yours who is almost dying, would you be ready to leave him or her to go and meet that person?

Suppose your own nation, the United States, is faced with peril, and it's going to perish right at this moment. Would you rather leave this nation and go in search of that man of perfection in order to meet him" Then American history would say you are a betrayer. If the nation of the United States would not let you go and cling to you, telling you to serve the nation without serving that man, then the United States as a nation would be committing sin against the whole of mankind. Isn't that true?

Even though the whole world is faced with peril, you have to leave the whole world and go meet this person; and in that case, are you a betrayer of the world? The perfected Adam, or the Adam without the fall, has a value greater than the whole world. There is no doubting the fact that even though you sacrifice yourself, your family, your nation, and the whole world, if you go and meet and receive the perfected person coming in Adam's place, God will have him save the whole world, including your nation and yourselves. Do you have a clear notion of what it is like? Can you do these things all by yourselves?

The Messiah is the person whom you must miss more than you would your lover, your family, your nation, or the whole world. You must serve him more. That's why Jesus said, "He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me." (Matt. 10:37, Luke 14:26) Can you do that? You must be more like that than was Jesus himself. Can you do that?

It took God 6,000 biblical years to locate a man like the Messiah, or send the Messiah to the human world. So we must miss him all the more and sacrifice for him, because he is the only goal of God, men, and all things. Then what is the Messiah going to do? He is a man of perfection, a male person. What is he going to do first? Can he set up his family right away, with only himself and his nation? What was lost in the Garden of Eden must be restored around the person of the Messiah; with him must be his bride; the lost Eve must be restored. What was lost in the original world must be restored, so Adam and Eve must be restored as the core of restoration, that is the very central idea of the Bible. That's what makes the Bible the holiest book among all the scriptures of other religions. With this knowledge we know that God exists.

Then when will God's Day, Parents' Day, Children's Day, and All Things Day be perfected? Those days will be perfected at the time of man's perfection. In the original world of creation, the day Adam and Eve were blessed in holy matrimony was the day of God, all things, and all parents and children, would celebrate. But in the Garden of Eden,

Adam and Eve fell at the last level of the growth period, leaving the perfection stage unfulfilled. The whole world is now situated below the level of the final stage of the growth period, even at the best.

Even the Lord of the Second Advent cannot reach the last level of the perfection stage by leaps and bounds. He must tread his way up. In the Bible we read that seven years of tribulation will come to all humanity; but the central figure, the Messiah, has to go through seven years of tribulation. It can be prolonged to 21 years, or three seven-year courses. If Christianity had not rejected our movement, the whole ideology of restoration could have been perfected or fulfilled during seven years' time. But because of their rejection, we must go through three seven-year courses, which is 21 years.

In the real sense, God's Day, Parents' Day, Children's Day, and Day of All Things must be set up when men have reached the perfection stage. But due to the human fall, we have at least seven years ahead of us before reaching a certain stage where we can set up those days.

Then out of those days to be celebrated, which day must be set first? God's Day is supposed to come first. But due to the human fall and due to the fact that we still have seven years left, which day did we set up first? Parents' Day. Because of Adam's and Eve's fall, we lost our human ancestors, and all mankind is beneath the level of the growth stage. So we have to restore the parents first and have them tread the seven years ahead of us. Therefore, we set up Parents' Day first. If you don't know this, in the future when we give you examinations on this you will fail.

When you go out witnessing, when people ask questions, how will you answer them? As a member of the Unification Church, you must be able to answer the questions in the right way. You can't read any of this in the Divine Principle book. In later days, we have to print another edition dealing with this kind of thing. So I want you to listen to me attentively. Without knowing this, you cannot pass through the spirit world. You will be asked questions in the spirit world when you enter that realm. Have you known this fact? Have you believed it and put it into practice?

It was in the year 1960 when we set up Parents' Day; the Parents had to start right on the last level of the growth period. In that situation, the Parents were not ones of glory and honor, but from that day on they had to be in the position of the priests who have to shed blood among the members. That is, they were going to sacrifice you for the sake of the whole world. Why is it so? It is because the Christian world has rejected our movement.

The Christian population was in the position of adopted sons of God. If they cooperated with our movement, they could have played the role of the sacrifice; but since they failed to do so, we had to choose people out of the fallen, non-Christian world, and then place them in the position of the sacrifice. That was the reason for the Unification members having to be sacrificed until now.

For what are we sacrificing ourselves? And why? If the Christian world came into cooperation with us, winning the whole world could have been no problem at all. If the Jewish people had cooperated with Jesus, this could have been realized in Jesus' time. But due to the failure of the chosen nation of Israel, God's preparation was nullified. So now the Christian world is rejecting us, and we have to take responsibility for what they should have done. Therefore, we have to go through a seven-year course, or if it is prolonged, three seven-year courses. By going through three seven-year courses, we are going to indemnify the 2,000 years since Jesus Christ. So within these 20 years' time, the world situation will radically change.

In the secular world, things are declining very rapidly; prosperity will come to our movement, and we will rise, while they fall. Hope is with us, and we are confident of winning our goal; you must be confident too, every one of you. We have to culminate our efforts, which we have so far been mobilizing, and we have to win the goal at all events. So we are in the final battle, the fiercest battle.

To us, the United States is in the position of Rome in the days of Jesus, so we are now working in this nation on the worldwide level. We must know the blessedness of having to work in this nation as the Rome. This nation is a democratic and Christian nation, which makes it easier for us to work. In the United States, people are stalemated, at a dead end, and they are destined to call for help from us.

During the first seven-year course, our project was to restore the Parents and Cain and Abel; this means the restoration of the family. The first seven year course was when Father had to pay the indemnity price to erect his own family. For him, that was the first seven-year course. In Adam's family, the first seven-year course was left unaccomplished because he could not erect his family, his perfected family. So after going through the seven-year course, Father could set up God's Day. During the first seven-year course, after setting up Parents' Day, he could set up Children's Day because after the restoration of the True Parents, he could restore the day of the True Children. By going through the perfected Cain and Abel level, he could set up his own family, by having those who are in the position of Cain obey those who are in the position of Abel.

By having the true children restored to the True Parents, he could set up the foundation of the restored family, and then on that foundation alone he could set up the Day of All Things. After restoring the True Parents, and after restoring Cain and Abel as his children, he could set up the foundation of the true family, and then, as he said before, he could set up the Day of All Things. This was May 1, 1963, according to the lunar calendar. We celebrate all those days according to the lunar calendar.

Since he set up his own family in the position of the family without the fall, and all the blessed families achieved more than the standard of worldly families, then we restored all things and properties and positions of our families and have the properties belong to the church.

In 1965 he could set up 120 Holy Grounds in 48 countries, claiming it to be God's foothold on earth. By setting up Parents' Day, Children's Day, and Day of All Things, those three together, he could reach the level of victory. Because the Christian world rejected our movement, we have done this much only on the spiritual level. We are celebrating those days within our Family, not with the rest of the world.

With these days set up in reverse, finally in the year 1968 he set up God's Day. It may sound very simple, but behind the story there have been many complicated things.

Due to the fall of Adam and Eve, the first human ancestors, the True Parents in their position had to do these things without consulting any other people about the matter. After going through the first seven-year course, he was ready to come to the United States. The last three years of his second seven year course he has been here; 1974 is his third year in the United States. After having brought the level of our movement here to a certain point, when he made a brief visit back home several weeks ago, he could set up the Day of Victory Over Resentment.

Without your being aware of the fact, on the spiritual level the whole world is under the claim of Satan. For instance, you have the claim over your own house and over your own property. But all things were under the claim or domination of Satan.

Then who can expel Satan and restore the ownership? We can expel or chase away Satan in the name of our True Parents, as their children, and the True Parents themselves can do that. They are entitled to do that. If you order them to leave the ownership to you in the name of the True Parents, in the name of the True Family, in the name of our movement, and in the name of the nation under our movement, they will be chased away. You believe it, and you can exercise the power. Can you believe it? (Yes.)

If you claim a certain land as your land and as God's, in an absolute faith, that land is already claimed. But there is one condition. Would you want to know it? (Yes.) The only condition is that, "I can never change before God. " If you are really resolved to be the son or daughter of God, and you will never leave that position, and if you are sure of that, you can exercise the power. If you vacillate and are not sure of not being changed, and if you exercise that power without having the deep faith, then you will be counter-attacked by Satan.

For instance, if 400 members of ours are in strong unity in oneness and harmony, and then go exercising the power in utter faith, then that faith will be like a rock, never vacillating, and then you can chase away Satan and claim the ownership. Are you sure you will never change? (Yes.) Yes? (Yes.) It is easy to answer with affirmation, but acting this way is very difficult. It is not so easy as it may sound.

I have seen many of you being exhausted or frustrated, and you miss the days you were enjoying in the worldly sense, and you say to yourself, "Oh, I am a university graduate. What am I doing here? I look so miserable, while my friends are successful in the outside world. " And you think of the old days and you miss your old selves. "So many of my friends, so and so, such and such people are all successful, and they have quite a well-off position, but I am here selling flowers and candles like this. How miserable I look. " Isn't that what you have been saying to yourselves? (No.) You are answering with your lips. Well, honestly, you have been quite a bit like that.

You must have strong faith, like a rock. The name Peter meant "rock." You must have the faith as of a rock, and then if Satan will come trying to invade you, he will be counter-attacked, and he will get hurt and not you. You sometimes are proud of yourselves being this and that. What are the points you can be proud of in yourselves? God has every reason to be proud of Himself. But He is only grieving now. He says, "Mr. Moon is qualified for every kind of thing. " He is not important just as a person of ability. He isn't an incapable person. There have been many saints and sages in past history, but have they been persons who were foolish and incapable of doing something other than what they have done?

God has gone through difficulties. Jesus has gone through martyrdom. And I am here going through many difficulties. Is it not natural for you to have to go through the same? (Yes.) Before you go through it, I have been analyzing the situation. I have been comparing the work I am doing with other work and I would meditate or contemplate over this and that, and I finally chose this mission. What you are going to do is just to follow me, so you must be grateful for that.

Without some of you, especially the new members, knowing it, we have gone through the first seven-year course successfully; and we are now in the three years towards the end of the second seven-year course. If we are successful in the eight-city speaking tour, we will successfully conclude the second seven-year course; then we are going to enter the third seven-year course. From then on we are going to work on the worldwide level. Upon entering the third seven-year course, we will see the world being changed, and we are going to conclude the project of restoring the rest of the world.

Now let us come to the conclusion. Seen from this viewpoint, whose God is God? (Ours.) He is our God, the God of our parents, and my God. And whose is mankind? (God's) God's children-if they are God's children, they are our brothers and sisters, because we are God's children. The people in the satanic world are in the position of adopted sons to you, as true children of God; and when they want to be saved, they must go through a formality to become the true children of God through you, who are that already.

It is desirable to educate the whole of mankind, the whole population of the world at one time, but since we cannot reach out to the people in that way, we must get in touch with every person and witness to people on an individual basis. Before restoring one whole nation under God, we cannot save people in national units. When we have restored a nation as a whole, we can have the government carry out the project; we can build our schools, where we can educate people under our ideology; and we can build our schools, schools that history has never seen before. And we can organize an army which human history has never seen before.

Then how strong will that nation be, under God's ideology? (The strongest.) God is anxious to have one nation restored like that; God can rely only on our movement, our people, to do the job for Him. We are not fighting against the world, or against a nation, with weapons. Faith, knowledge, truth, personality, and love are our only weapons. We must have more love, more truth, and more personality than worldly people. With these people put together, we are going to restore the whole world back to God's bosom, after going through the stages of family, nation, and world.

We must be proud of the God's Days which we have set up. We must be proud of the Parents' Day we have set up. We must be proud of our having Children's Day here. Especially, we must be proud of the fact that we have the Day of All Things.

By putting God, men, and all things, together and connecting them, we will accomplish the will of God. Then we want to be men who can really smile and laugh before God. We must become people who can really smile and laugh among mankind. When we smile and when we laugh, we must laugh the laughter and smile the smile which is more valuable, the ones which people have never smiled and laughed. What kind of laughter and smiles must those be? (The best.) You can really smile and laugh that kind of laughter and smile only after sacrificing yourself.

Jesus could bless his enemy even on the cross when he was put to death, and that's what makes him great, greater than any other saint. You must be greater than Jesus himself. I want you to be happy, even though you are going through difficulties. Can you do that? (Yes.) We must sing throughout our whole life. You must sing in praise of God, in praise of humanity, in praise of all things; and if you sing in that way, you are the great things. The greatest of all songs is the song by a person who is dying. Even though you are dying, if you can sing at that moment, that's the greatest song. If you are faced with death, and in case of death you can still dance, you are the greatest person of all humanity.

There have been many martyrs who were happy when they were killed, but if they calculated in their minds, "By my dying this death I can be entitled to heaven," then that death is meaningless. At the moment of your death, at the moment of your being killed, if you have the sense of dying for the sake of God, for the sake of the whole of mankind, for the sake of all things, then your death will be significant and remembered by God, and you will live by dying.

Can you understand me? (Yes.)

Some of you may think, "Whenever Master speaks to us, he always commands us to die. Oh, what a Master he is. " Sooner or later, we will die; and if you are going to die at all, what kind of death must be more significant and will be greater? When a man dies on the way to do research, would that be more significant? For instance, an athletic champion dies on the way to wrestle, or something like that; is that a greater death? Or if he dies for the sake of his own family, or himself, would that be a great death? If you are going to die at all, those kinds of deaths are something to be avoided. You must be ready to die for the sake of God, for the sake of mankind, for the sake of the whole world, all the things of God's creation. If you really die that kind of death, on that day God will console your spirit, and the whole of mankind will console you, together with all the things of creation.

If you were in God's position, would you not console that man's spirit and say, "If you remained on the earth you could have done this and that; I wanted you to enjoy all those things"? He will console the heart of that man, and all the people around him will console his spirit by saying, "You wanted to do this and that, and I want to accomplish what was left unaccomplished by you." All the world together will console his heart and long remember him.

What kind of death would you choose, if there were three kinds I will name? You just want to have a seemingly peaceful life and reach the end of your life; and on the sick bed you will die-not quite a natural death, but that kind of death. Or, you are so ambitious as to fight for the sake of yourself, your fame, your position, and things like that; then in the course of that

fight you will be killed and have an earlier death. Or, would you choose rather to die for the sake of the whole world, and God, and all things? (The whole world.) You know what you are going to do? (Yes.)

Just superficially speaking, a young man, Jesus, came into the world, and he was sacrificed on the cross. He died young, and he passed away. But what happened after his death? He could change the whole world on the spiritual level, and many millions of people are following him. And on the physical level, things were left unaccomplished, but this time Master came, and in place of God and Jesus, he is going through untold difficulties. His aim is only to change the whole world back to God's bosom. And would you not follow him? (Yes.) If you are ready to follow him all throughout your life, hold up your hands in pledge before God. Thank you.

The Price Of The Dispensation

In our life, when we have a special purpose ahead of us, we always have to pay a certain price. If a nation has a special purpose ahead of it, it also must pay some price for that. When the world as a whole is headed for a special goal, it has to pay the price for that. Even for God, we can safely conclude that He too has to pay the price for His own goal.

But had it not been for the human fall, God would not have to pay, and our way towards the goal would not have been so rough. Without the human fall, our way could have been well paved, so that we could dash on our way. Then we only had to adapt to the situation and we would be destined to go to the goal. Man would apparently go to the goal just as a tree would sprout and grow into a big tree with branches and leaves and finally bear fruit. According to natural law, men could have gone to the goal in their lifetime.

Due to the human fall, our growth has been something like this: the seed sprouts out right, but because of a bad environment and Satanic beings, our growth is barred, and a scar is formed. The branches have not grown wholesomely, and the fruits have not ripened well. The trees have blossomed, but the flowers have not been according to God's Will, and the fruits have also not been what God wanted.

Like branches, fallen men must be engrafted to the true tree, and we must grow wholesomely by sipping the sap from the new tree, the true one. Then how do we engraft ourselves to the true tree? We as branches must try hard to be entirely one with the true tree. In order for us to be a part of the true tree, we must pay a certain price.

But we as trees have grown in different environments: and your ancestral tree is different, and your endowed nature and dispositions are different. So, each of us is going to be engrafted to the true tree in different ways. Outwardly, there is no difference, but we must know that for us to be engrafted to the true tree, we must have something in common -- the sap, the growth element.

In human beings, our sap -- by that we mean some inner nature -- must be transformed into another. The sap coming from the root of the tree must pass through the trunk and reach the branches. Then the external things, the branches, must become one with the true tree.

From that viewpoint, we must become a part of the true tree. But when we don't have things in common with God's Will, we cannot very well be a part of the tree. On the worldwide base, we must be able to engraft ourselves on the individual base to the true olive tree. God's Will originally was to have all men engrafted onto that one man.

But Satanic power has spread all over the world, and God could not succeed in having just one man do the job; but all through human history, He has had many men fulfilling the same mission. God has had to have individuals engrafted onto that one man, families engrafted onto him, nations, and the whole world engrafted onto him. But these human branches have their own wills, so God had to train these people to be acceptable to the grafting process.

God's Will has a mainstream, so God has had to train a person as an individual, a family, and a nation for that purpose. According to that mainstream of His will, God has prepared a nation -- the chosen nation of Israel. Until the days of Jesus, the Israelites were the chosen nation, but they failed to be engrafted to the true olive tree. So after the death of Jesus, God has been preparing the whole Christian population, the second Israel -- for that purpose.

At the time of Jesus, it was God's will for the Israelites to be engrafted to Jesus, or Jesus to be engrafted to the whole of the Israelite nation. You know the engrafting process. The Israelites must be a wholesome tree, not undermined by insects and things like that. Then the branches of the true trees must be engrafted to each tree. So God has been preparing the evil trees to receive what was going to come from the true tree. So the long-prepared wild olive orchards were not sane and sound; that is, the individuals in that nation were not so prepared as to receive Jesus. So he had to undo the job and redo it.

After Jesus, God has been preparing the Christian population to fulfill the purpose of the second Israel. This is the last days. But is there any nation or any individual to whom the true tree of the Lord can be engrafted? As it now stands, the whole of Christianity has been corrupted. If the Lord of the Second Coming is coming at all, does he have any individual, any nation, or any world population to whom he can be engrafted?

Let us look at the world from the viewpoint of God. Does He have any single person to whom He can have His son be engrafted? Do we have any single such man with whom God is so pleased that He will have His son be engrafted to him? It is very difficult for God to have the true tree be engrafted to the wild trees. The engrafting process is contrary to what we imagine.

We don't engraft the wild tree to the true tree, but the true tree to the wild tree. If you were in the position of God, would He not have been disappointed by the way the world is? In the Christian world, every individual is thinking of his own salvation; he would not think of the salvation of the whole world. Everybody is eager to be saved and to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

But the Lord of the Second Advent will think of the salvation of the whole world, and if that true tree is engrafted to that tree who has the thought of only his or her own salvation, would that tree grow wholesomely? The process of engrafting is not that you cut off your branches and engraft them to the true tree, but that the true tree must have its branches cut off and engrafted to the wild tree. If you want to have the branches of the true olive tree to be engrafted to you, you must be prepared for that. You must deny yourself and prepare to receive that new branch from the true tree.

First of all, you must deny yourselves. That is, you must cut off your own branches, leaving just the one which you think is the most wholesome one, and then be prepared to receive the branch from the true tree. Have you ever stopped to think of that? Have you ever thought that if you want to have a branch of the true tree engrafted to you, you must cut off all the bad branches from your own tree?

It is only too natural for the Biblical verses to teach us that we must humble ourselves in order to be elevated; we must be ready to lose our lives in order to gain our lives. Have you ever stopped to think that for you to be a wholesome tree in God's sight you must have all the rest of your limbs cut off. You must be prepared for that. In human society, the things that have been going on work like this; a true branch is engrafted to you, but you do not cut your own branches.

As I said before, you must have something in common between yourself and the new branch, for instance the sap going back and forth. But human beings have failed to do so, so our position is far from the will of God. In the world, there are a vast number of people with varied dispositions and ancestral lineages. We can classify people into many layers from external to internal; some people play the role of the poles.

Seen from your viewpoint as an individual, for instance, putting yourself in the center, there are many layers or classes of people, around you, but all those people are connected to you and have at least something to do with you.

What is the most precious thing to you in the whole world? You yourselves are the most precious thing in the world. Every individual has to think of the world centered on himself or herself. With you in the center, the whole population of the world is around you, like satellites. Every one of you, I imagine, thinks of becoming the center of the whole cosmos, the most important person in the whole world. Isn't that true?

Be honest. It is human nature to think of one's self before thinking of others. Without the human fall, it would not be a wrong way of thinking, because inside every one of you God would abide. So, what would God have you think? But do you have God abiding in you now? Instead, who is dwelling in your temple? (Satan.) Have you ever seen Satan? Have you even seen your own mind? Without seeing our minds, we know whether our minds are good or bad. Before knowing that, we know our mind exists.

Objectively, too, we can look at a man and define the man as good or evil. And if that man has the mind of righteousness and goodness, and his thought never vacillates, we think of that person as good. If that person is trying hard to be utilized by good hands, or be adapted to the source of goodness, then we can define him as good.

Roughly, we can define as evil one who is always vacillating. This wavering is always against truth or goodness or beauty. It always has critical eyes, never praising anything. Evil came from the fall. We know that in the Garden of Eden, the first human ancestors did not look at God and adapt to Him; instead, they wanted to criticize God and deny Him, wanting to be like God himself.

Look into your own selves: have you been steadfast in following goodness? Or have you been wavering all the way, being critical of other people? Do you follow one mainstream of thought, without criticizing others? Which disposition predominates? (Wavering.) And criticism of others. When you are like that, you are the temple of Satan instead of God.

But one is neither entirely for Satan nor entirely for God. On the one hand some are 100% for God, and on the other, there are many, many classes of people who have a percentage of Satan. The ideal is to have 100% of God, and zero percent of Satan. To some, the situation is the reverse; they have 100% of Satanic will, and zero percent of God's Will.

That is God's side, while this is the satanic side. We are under that situation. The zero point is the borderline between God and Satan. But can you exactly grasp where the zero point is? Where is the boundary between God and Satan? Can you define it? (No.) You are in danger of having your zero point here, while God's zero point is situated there. There is a vast difference between the viewpoint of God and yourself.

At least we are headed for that goal, starting from the zero point. Where are you situated? Some of you think that your zero point safely starts from here, and are reassured that you are on God's side. Without a doubt, you are situated somewhere here, and fancy that you are already on God's side. So you must clearly grasp the picture where you are situated.

With you in the center, you must perfect your individuality, family, tribe, nation, and the whole cosmos, including God and the spirit world. You must be perfected so as to include all those things. But where are you situated? You imagine that you are on God's side and you are broadening your scope from the individual level of things, to the family, tribal, national, and worldwide levels.

You are making your own net there, but it is very dangerous. As I see it you are situated somewhere on the satanic side as yet, although you are fancying that you are right in the center of the universe. So if that is true, you are far from the will of God. So it is safe for you to deny yourself completely, and not make your own world right there: rather, try to lose yourself, deny yourself. Then you will find the true central point and be situated there.

If you deny yourself, and cut off the ties to the worldly manner of life, then you will naturally come to the zero point. If you rely on your own way of thinking, then in your mind, the center point, vacillates. Sometimes your center point is here, there, everywhere.

From God's point of view, He can see only one man right here in the center; those close to him are better, but others who are farther and farther away belong more to the satanic world. If you were in God's position, would you have chosen one somewhere out there to be the central figure? God cannot conduct His providence centering on such a man.

There are many conscientious people in the world, who are contented with themselves, saying, "I am a conscientious person. I am destined for heaven. I don't have to believe in someone.'' But is that a safe way of thinking? God would not chose that kind of person to be the center, and however close he may be to the center, if he is not connected with him, he has nothing to do with salvation.

The entire population of the world is descended from evil ancestry -- fallen, satanic ancestry. So God cannot choose one out of them to play the role of the central figure, but only one coming from His lineage. That central figure is the Messiah. The Messianic ideology comes from that. From God's point of view, the Messiah is no one other than the one who has God living in him -- in other words, one who thinks as God would have him think, speaks and acts out things in the way in which God would have him do. That person must be the one loved by God. God must have confidence that he will always live with God. Must that person be a male or female? He must be male, because according to the Principle of Creation, the male is in the subject position.

Americans are more used to thinking of women first, so women may not be satisfied with this ideology. Who is in the subject position? (Male) Well, I expected the answers from the women, and you are first to answer, "Yes." But in the satanic, fallen world, it does not apply. Men are not necessarily in the subject position.

In a sense, men are of a more fallen nature. Statistics show that men have committed more crimes. Isn't that true? But there have been exceptions. You women don't have a moustache. Well, that's something men have over you; and if someone has more than you, then he is richer than you.

When God created man and woman, God was more sympathetic with women, I think. Although women may be weaker, when they fight men, women can hold onto the beard. When you are weaker, you can win over the man like that. But when you are married, don't ever try that. You cannot do that, because your husband will not have a beard. Well, let's go back to the mainstream of thought.

It has been so difficult for God to find that perfect man. This man must be 100% in accordance with God's will, and also qualified enough to have his family, nation, and the whole world be like him. He is qualified enough to make the whole world come in accordance with God's will. Now it is clear that God wants that kind of person.

Then what kind of person would the Messiah want to have? He wants to have the same types of people God would want to have. If there are none like that in the whole world, what would he do? He must raise that kind of person. In order for the Messiah to raise or foster that kind of person, he must deny himself, and in selflessness and sacrifice adopt those people and raise them to be wholesome.

God would want to have that kind of group in existence in the world, and God would have the Messiah raise that kind of group. If there is a prepared group where people love each other and love mankind in brotherly love, and therefore be prepared to receive the Messiah, God will send him to that group.

The Messiah comes for the rest of the world, not for himself. So those who are qualified to receive the Messiah must have the same way of thinking. You must deny yourself, thinking only of the salvation of the whole world. There are a vast number of religions in the world, and many philosophies and ideologies, but is there any such group in the world?

What is the Unification Church? What are we going to do? First of all, our ideology is to unite the religions of the world, not only Christian denominations. Then after that, what are we going to do, after being able to unite the world religions. Our purpose is to have the world population receive the Messiah and live in the Kingdom.

In order for them to receive the Messiah, what should they do? Prepare to receive him, and then meet God through the Messiah. Then people will find the same quality in God as in the Messiah. God will be in the center of the individual, family, tribe, nation, and the whole world.

If you are in God's sphere as individuals, families, and nations, can you think of nothing else but the salvation of the world? In this sense, when we say, "our nation," it means one nation under God, the whole mankind as one nation. When you say "our nation," it must not mean America, Japan, or Korea. If you entertain that kind of thought, it's wrong. You must find out the difference between your concept of a nation and God's and the Messiah's -- how they differ from yours. There is a vast difference between yours and theirs.

So the way of life you have been following is not the way God would have you go. Do you think your way of life and God's are the same? You must first of all understand that there is a vast difference between your way of thinking and God's. Your ways of thinking, living, and acting have been so vastly different from God's and the Messiah's.

You must imagine the Messiah's way of thinking is so vastly different from yours -- almost opposite to yours -- so you can expect that when the Messiah comes, those who have been sitting on the chairs will be told to come down, and those who have been sitting on the floor must be told to sit on the chairs; those who are walking must be told to sit still, and those who have been sitting still must be told to move about. He will hate to look at people doing things they have been used to, so he will tell you to do the opposite.

If you were in his position, would you have your beloved people do things in obedience to your enemy? (No) What we read in the Bible sometimes sounds paradoxical. It is because God did not like the worldly way, the Satanic way. The people closer to the Messiah are more or less good. And as you go farther and farther from him, you are more evil. The Messiah will have to raise his own group, and if it is expanded to a certain number, however small the group may look, if the weight of this group in God's eyes is heavier than the rest of the world, it is entitled to save the world.

This small group must be so strong that it will win over the rest of the world, however strong they may attack that group. The Messiah must start from that point. If the whole of Christianity had been one with him, things would have been different and much easier. But even though they are against this movement, he must make this group stronger than the whole of Christianity.

If you are called into this group by him, you must go through the same process in order to reach out to the rest of the world, to the end of the world. You must imagine hardships and trials there. You are destined to have to go through all these processes of persecution and tribulation; only then can you come back here. Just imagine, after we have established such a world, the way of our descendants will be well paved; and they can go freely back and forth without Satanic obstacles.

In this group, the Messiah is the center; the whole group is in the center of the rest of the world, which is external. There must be a wholesome give and take and intermingling between what is internal and what is external, forming the whole. Even though you are situated here, you have something to do with the outside world.

But with what kind of person or society are you associated in the outside world? Wouldn't you want to have someone or some group closer to the center? In associating with those persons or groups, you must absorb them, and by continuing the same with others who are still external to you, you must come back to the center.

By doing that, the group will include a bigger and bigger circle, and then this part must play the internal role, as the core world, while the rest of the world is in the position of the external world. Finally, we must include the whole world or cosmos. What is internal and what has been external must become one, in harmony and unity. That's something like the unity between our body and mind. They are still two elements, but the spiritual side and physical side must become one.

That is the formula for perfecting our individuality and our personality. That is the pattern of perfected personality. This is also a world without any evil elements, so you can freely go back and forth, unhindered by Satan or satanic elements. Let me put it in another way. There are two worlds: the physical world and the spirit world. What I just described applies to the spirit world.

God is in the center, and there are many types of spirit men: those who are closer to Him, then the more evil, and more evil. In the physical world, too, with the Messiah as the center, the more conscientious or more righteous people are closer to him, and those farther and farther away are more and more evil. Spirit world is the internal world, while this is the external world. That world is something like our mind, while this one is something like our physical body.

But due to the human fall, there was a barrier or a cloud between the internal world and the external world. The dense cloud bars the way; we cannot distinguish which is which. Although you don't realize it, there is a vast distance between your spiritual side and flesh side. The difference is like the difference between the spirit world and the physical world.

God's 6,000 years of restoration providence has been to bring your mind and body into oneness. If you as an individual can unite your mind and body, you will have no barrier between your mind and body. And finally, the spirit world and the physical world can become one in harmony and unity. Man is groping in darkness in search of God; God is coming down in search of us, and we meet and become one. That's something like the spirit world and the physical world becoming one.

Our own selves are the base for God's restoration of man, and when we perfect our individuality in ourselves, God's Will will be realized through us. As such individuals increase, the whole world will be restored. When those individuals are multiplied, the whole of God's providence will be done. In fact, God's dispensation and providence of restoration is to make one man perfect. That means to make the whole world like one man. Because of this one man, the whole spirit world will be liberated and the whole physical world will be liberated.

When Jesus prayed he said, "Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." That means the Lord must come after he wins over all the spirit men in the spirit world. Even though he has won the battle over Satanic power in the spirit world, if he is rejected and persecuted and is defeated by the Satanic world here, his mission is not done.

On the vertical base, suppose the chosen nation was prepared, and the whole national base was ready for the Messiah to land on and work his providence, but the whole nation rejected him. He had only this much left to do, if the chosen nation had been one with him. But the national base was nullified due to the disbelief of the Israelites.

So he had to start over again. He started from the individual foundation, being destined to go through all these stages. But he died with only the spiritual foundation, able to accomplish only this much. On the physical foundation there are many things left to do, on the physical side of salvation. In providential history, there are many such details.

We are going to accomplish things that were left unaccomplished by our predecessors. The missions all of the holy men were to save the whole world. Those holy men have been long remembered in human history because their will was according to God's will. In their sight, there was nothing other than the whole world; when they looked into themselves, they looked in terms of the whole world. They looked into their family, tribe, and nation, in terms of the whole world. That's the definition of a holy man.

What we are going to do in our Unification movement is to accomplish what has been left unaccomplished by those holy men. We must think that to perfect our own self as an individual is the starting point of perfecting the whole world, or restoring the whole world. What God has been doing towards mankind has been the same thing. God has had to sacrifice His holy men. But that was for the sake of the whole world; they sacrificed for the whole world. Where do we find the price? We must restore the price they have paid for this world.

To be able to restore the price they have paid, we must save the whole world and erect the kingdom of God on earth; they will be rewarded in that way alone. That is the end of the world. The last days means the days in which we will restore the price paid by the predecessors, reaping what was sown. Now, is the time of harvest. Then who will reap what was sown in the last days? The Lord of the Second Advent and the group who is in harmony and unity with him will do it.

In the time of Jesus, in order for God to reap what was sown through the chosen nation of Israel, the Messiah had to come and the people had to become one with him. Now for national restoration, the nation of the United States is in the hands of the American people, while the Japanese people will be responsible for Japan, and so on. You must return what you have reaped to the Messiah.

When the Messiah comes, both God and the Messiah will tell you Americans to reap what was sown in this country and elsewhere. The nation itself, the people themselves will reap what was sown in their respective nations, and you will return the crops to the Messiah and God. And when all those nations are restored back into the bosom of God and the Messiah, then the whole world will be one nation under God, one human family under God. Then there will be no wars, no fighting between men. There will be no national boundaries, so we cannot expect any war between nations.

Until that happens, the Christians are more responsible than others. But Christianity is failing its task, so our group must take it up. I have invited many members here, from all over the world, in order to train those people in this arena of the United States and send them back to their own countries to reap what was sown in their respective countries.

I have brought you here, but the United States as a nation has not invited you here. You have gone through difficulties to get visas to enter this country. But we are for that great cause, and we are working hard for that. But if the whole world becomes one, would you need a visa ton enter any section of the world? This is our world, this is God's garden, and His children are entitled to go about from place to place without a visa.

Until we can realize that world, we must witness to the people and make the people as we are. By our bringing the whole of mankind into oneness, we can reap the price paid by our predecessors. Can we just sit still with folded hands to reap that price? (No!) Our predecessors paid the price of their lives. They paid 100%; can we reap by paying less than that? (No!)

Can you pay just 50% and reap the 100% sown by those people? (No!) Then what is the way? (100%!) When we pay less than 100%, it means we have come down. When we pay more than 100%, we can go beyond the level of what has been done before. When we pay 50%, we are in the middle, and we reap only so much. If you as individuals reap this much alone and have your family and nation do the same, do you expect this whole thing to reach the top? Then what shall we do? (100%!) It's easy to say that.

You sow the seeds, raise the crops, and then reap the harvest. To reap sometimes requires more labor, but people can do that with happiness. Those who sow and raise the plants have gone through more difficulties; it takes such a long time, so many months, to sow and grow the crops; but we can reap it once. At harvest time, we cannot leave the crops in the field too long. When fall and storms come, it makes it harder for us to reap. So at the harvest time we are so pressed for time and we are so busy reaping the men.

When we look at the history of mankind, we are at the harvest time, the reaping of men. The laborers are we ourselves. Who else can do the job? You cannot be just the by-standers, watching someone else reap, but you must become the reapers yourselves. We have no time to lose.

If you were a Korean man, would you do the harvest in Korea alone, or would you rather do it on the world stage? (World.) We know that at length we have to harvest the whole of mankind, so you must choose the right place to do the reaping -- work better and sooner, and then move about from place to place. It took God so many years of history to sow and raise and crops, but when the Messiah comes to reap them, it will take a short interval of time.

Knowing this fact, Jesus was busy reaping men when he came, but their disbelief made him fail. When mankind with the Messiah pays this great a price and goes beyond the level of 100%, starting from here the Kingdom of God, heaven, begins. There have been many miseries, difficulties, and hardships in human history, but these were only to enable God to build the Kingdom on Earth, build His Kingdom on Earth through men. God is transcending time and space, so for Him, the 6,000 years of human history have been just nothing. The 6,000 years of human history are in His will, in His sight. God knows how great a price He has had to pay through His men.

In feeling and emotion, what God feels is more intense, so His heart is so agonized to see the failures of His holy men. God's mind can accommodate the whole world; his mind is so complex. So many things are stored in His mind; so many things are entangled. And when can we disentangle all those agonies stored in His mind and heart? So great a price has been paid, so many individuals have been sacrificed, so many nations have been sacrificed, and the whole world is still in the hands of Satan. So much agony is entangled in God's Heart. God's agony was the sacrifice of His men. These human sacrifices must be repaid.

On that base, what we are going to do is to make each of you a perfect man, after being triumphant over the whole world. Conversely, you must think that the whole world is evil because of you, yourselves. You must know that when the Messiah comes, he comes for you and the whole world, which is the accumulation of all individuals.

God has paid the toll of sacrifice, and the Messiah has paid a certain price, and all mankind has paid a price. And what we are going to reap is the totality of all the prices. Then we must be eager to restore ourselves into perfection, in which state we can dominate the whole world. Do I mean only Unification members? No. The population of the whole world must be saved; individually they know their importance, and in God's sight they are important too.

You must invest your whole beings, and I must invest the whole membership of the Unification Church to reap the prices paid by our predecessors. You must think that so many hundreds of thousands of people have sacrificed their lives for the sake of your own selves. When you think of that, when you really realize that, can you idle away your time without doing anything in God's will?

What we are going through here in the Unification Church is paying the price for them. Well, for whom are we doing this? For yourselves? (No.) For the whole world, for the whole of mankind. We are not working for the salvation of ourselves as individuals, but for the salvation of the whole world, because only after doing that will your salvation come.

What we are doing here is just like what the spirit men are doing in the spirit world. They are eager and are working hard to save the whole world. In cooperation with them, and by keeping pace with them, we on this earth are going to save the whole world on the physical level. So many thousands of years men have been paying the price for the salvation of all mankind. But what they have done is still down here, so we must lift them up beyond the level of 100%. God's wish is to have you shorten the period of 6,000 year history into 60 years or less.

From Adam to Abraham spanned 2,000 years, and from Abraham to Jesus spanned 2,000 years of history. The providence of restoration actually started from Abraham, and during the 4,000 years since then, the restoration providence should have been accomplished. But God's desire is to have us shorten the period of 4,000 into 40 years, and 6,000 years into 60 years.

The year 1960 was the 40th year of Father's mission, and 1980 is going to be the 60th year. Starting from the year 1960 up to 1980 will be 20 years' time. After that we are entering the 21st year, having completed three seven-year courses. God's final Will is to have us reap all that has been sown by our predecessors during the 21 years' time. The three seven year courses each represent one stage -- formation, growth, and perfection; in 20 full years, and entering the 21st year, we have to do that.

Our first seven-year course represents formation; the second seven-year course, growth; and the third seven-year course, perfection. So, one seven-year course corresponds to 2,000 years of providential history because we are contracting 6,000 years into 21.

We are now situated in the final stage or perfection stage of the growth period. That's something like the point where Jesus would have gone beyond the level of the nation. We are entering the third seven-year course, which will be fulfilled on the worldwide base. The Messiah is now going to accomplish his worldwide mission on the foundation of the national base. During the past three years, we have been doing that. I came here in the year 1972, and by going through these three years, we will go beyond the last stage of the growth period and enter the final seven-year course.

The culmination will come in 1977. Our providence under God, of course, cannot be a failure then; that will be the sixth year after my arrival in this country. Then we will dash on the paved way towards the end of the world. You must remember that from next year on, we will be in our final seven-year course, our third seven-year course.

As God's providence through our group will be ascending like that, in the outside world -- even in Christianity -- corruption will rage, and it will become worse and worse; thus our way will be easier. When we look at the whole world, we can roughly divide them into three blocks: Communist, democratic, and religious. There is corruption even in the religious block, also in the democratic block. The Communist block will collapse too. No one can save any of the three, except us, and God has prepared our group for that purpose.

We must be desperate in saving this nation; if we can move this nation, we can move the whole world. Then we can reap the rest of the world in no time. As for reaping individuals, I mean that you must be a perfected individual in order to reap other individuals; reap other organizations and families, we must perfect our family in God's sight; if we are going to reap nations, we must make our nation perfect; the whole world will be restored in that way.

Among all the religions of the world, there has never been any religion in which the central figure has taught that the heavenly Kingdom of God can be entered only by the family unit. If that kind of ideology can win a nation as a whole, on that national base, it can go towards the end of the world very easily. If we restore a whole nation, then our next restoration will come on the national base; we won't have to try to save individuals, but an entire nation at once. Then we can reap the rest of the world by reaping 120 providential nations.

There are three to four main nations in God's sight. In the Second World War England, the United States, and France were allies. Now the great powers of the United States, Red China, and Soviet Russia are talking peace. If we can influence seven nations at least, then we can get hold of the whole world: the United States, England, France, Germany, Soviet Russia, and maybe Korea and Japan.

On God's side, Korea, Japan, America, England, France, Germany, and Italy, are the nations I count on in order to gain the whole world. If you look closely at the world, they are being prepared for our work. But God is preparing the outside world like that, so we must prepare ourselves to be qualified enough to absorb the world.

While you are witnessing to other people, you must cultivate the qualifications in yourselves. And more than that, after saving the whole world, we have to reign over the world. Do we have any time, any moment, to lose when we think of that?

"The Price of the Divine Will" is my topic this morning -- we are now in the harvest time, the human harvest, and we must pay a greater price than that paid by our predecessors and bring our world above the level of 100%. We must be resolved to do that. We must struggle hard, and by 1980 we have to lift the world above that level.

If we fail to do that by 1980, it will make it harder for us to finish the job. We must feel that we are always on the verge of life or death, so we must dash forward breathtakingly, without losing a moment. The alternative of life or death lies before us. We must go across, stage by stage, going through at least seven nations.

The most formidable enemy is Communism. God is working to have them be corrupted with infighting among themselves; but our job is to win them over with our ideology, which is stronger than theirs. It is our life or death problem, how to make the defense line against Communism in those seven nations. By being able to do this in this nation alone, we can hope to do that in the rest of the nations.

Being a strong Christian nation, God has blessed this nation for that purpose, so if we fail to do this here, we have no hope of restoring the rest of the world. We have to succeed in our mission here, in the United States. But as we now see, the Christians in this country are rejecting us; so what our predecessors and the Christian martyrs have paid before must now be paid by us alone. We must expect more difficulties, and we have to pay a greater price than expected.

We can see that among those seven nations, Communism is the most formidable enemy of God's Will. In Korea, the Communists cause the most headaches. In Japan, also, as well as in England, Germany, Italy, France, and even the United States, the Communist problem is the most formidable one. What I am praying for is that God will bar the way, stop the Communists from infiltrating.

In France, President Pompidou has died, and his place, the new president is more on God's side; it is under God's will that all this happened. In Germany, too, because of Communist espionage agents, Prime Minister Brandt has resigned and a new president has been designated. All those things are happening under God's will. In the providence of God, Korea and Japan are becoming one with our ideology. The final target of Communism wants to cause the United States to collapse by undermining it, bringing it to its knees before their ideology.

As I said before, the year 1977 (or very possibly 1978) will be crucial years. If by that time we fail to lay the foundation in this nation on which to fight against the Satanic power of Communism, things will be very difficult. Knowing that providential significance, I am so agonized and so desperate to over come Communism within that period of time. You must join me in this all-out effort.

During these 21 years, many historical events are apt to happen. Great changes will come about, even in the democratic world, the Communist world, and in the religious world, too. Communism will prosper up to its 60th year. The democratic world, too, is allowed to prosper to its 60th year. In the Christian world, too, the same thing applies.

But some 14 years ago the Christian world began to decline, and before the 60th year in the Communist world it will decline and in the democratic world, the same thing will come to pass. Only the Unification Church will grow and grow. It is only too natural that in the providence of God our group has grown so big, and in two or less years, my name has been known throughout this nation. We are now in 1974, but in the coming six years, we must work hard to cross over 1980. Then by that time we must be known throughout the world.

Can we do that by just sitting idle? (No.) We must be resolved to pay the price our predecessors have paid by our all-out efforts during these six to seven years. If we work desperately hard, then we can win the goal by 1980. If we fail to do so within that period of time, it may have to be prolonged. Then during that period, we will have to pay a greater price and sacrifice more.

In Christianity, we have paid with many martyrs. In our movement we will likewise have to pay that great a price if we cannot win the goal by that time. Maybe Communism will take over the sovereignty of the world. Then we are going to be the first martyrs in their hands. We must realize that. Untold miseries will come about in this world. So we must be ready to invest our whole beings into this project, in this interval of time; that is the price we are going to pay for the Divine Will.

If we, the Unification Church, have restored a whole nation as a base, then the whole nation can play this role and pay this price; it will be easier to restore the rest of the world because we can reap by nations, not individuals. Now we are on the stage of paying the price as a church. But we must go beyond the level of the church as a group and lay the foundation as a nation.

Our next seven-year course will be the contracted form of the 6,000 years of providential history, so we must be resolved to pay the entire sacrifice that we can afford to pay during that interval of time. By doing that, we can build our own personalities in such a way that we will be qualified enough to cover the whole world and restore it back to God's bosom. We must be resolved and be prepared for that. Do you understand?

If we go the usual way, we cannot let our name be known; so let our name be known to the world. That's why I had the speaking tour; but when we go across the year 1974, within that year, I have to have the biggest project of the Madison Square Garden speaking campaign, and it is for me to influence the whole of the nation of the United States, so that it influences the whole world. And in so doing, I can make your work easier to reach out to the rest of the world. Therefore, we must put out our whole energy, our whole beings into the Madison Square Garden campaign this fall.

You know that the first speech was given last year, but the second speech, and the prolonged speaking tour to 32 cities has been carried out in this year. The Madison Square Garden speech will be given in this year, too; the year 1974 is very significant. We have to let the people know Our Master's name.

Is his presence felt in every corner of the United States by now? No, we still have a long way to go. The rumor has been spreading, but you must reach out to every individual. Now that I have organized ten international mobile units, and one mobile unit in every state, and under them so many centers in every state, we are now beginning to make our name known to every corner.

And on the other hand, the Sun Myung Moon Christian Crusade is doing a fine job. It is because we are responsible to have the people know about our movement. During the coming three years, up through 1977, your responsibility is to let people know of our movement: the three ones motto. That is our responsibility.

If and when the nation does not receive God's will, after we have carried out our responsibility, that's not our responsibility. Then we will never perish in that way, but we have other ways to go. I will focus on and concentrate the work on this base of the United States up to 1977. If the United States will not respond to my call and lay a certain foundation by that time, I will shift my mission to another nation. They will be awakened to the fact later on.

God has been preparing this nation for 200 years. Before long they will celebrate their bicentennial. By that time we have to awaken this nation under God's will. So we must concentrate our whole effort in this nation on this project in the shortest possible three years. Therefore, you must feel the pressure and the flurry of our mission.

I sometimes feel bad and have sympathy with your having to labor so much and struggle so hard in this nation. But you must realize that you are not here to do the job for this nation alone, but for the whole of mankind and for the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. What you will have done here will be claimed by you alone, and you will be long remembered in human history for doing this. There are many, many things I have to do through you within this period of time.

In doing our job here, we make a connection with the Asian world, too. Although you don't know it, even though I am here in the United States, I am working on the project with the Japanese members. I have our PR members get in touch with the presidents of so many Japanese companies here. I am aiming at a cubic effect, a vertical effect.

Next year we are going to hold the Unified Science Conference here in New York; we are going to make it a historical event. And then through scholars, Master's name will be known to the end of the world. It was I who initiated all those things, and I can do it without your cooperation. But you must join me in the effort for your own sake.

The significance of my having brought the members from other nations is to have them work for this nation, so this nation's attention will be aroused. It is for me to lay the foundation in this nation and awaken people by showing the example of the members from other nations working for this nation.

I can say to them," Look at those members from other nations. They are working so hard for your nation. And can you sit still without doing anything for your own nation?" Here, too, I must perhaps train the American members more severely and harshly than the members from other nations; so you cannot complain. The American Unification members can never complain.

Up to the present, you have been enjoying material wealth and abundance in many ways; I may have to reverse your way and have you go through more difficulties. You American members must know how to criticize and analyze the declining, decadent things taking place in the world, especially in the realm of the youth of this country.

You must not be homesick for that way of life. If you go on like that, the white race is doomed to perish; and the black and yellow races must not follow their example. When they streak on the university campuses, they are sort of digging their own graveyard. We must not follow the example.

I feel it is fortunate that the black race has not yet followed the example of the white race; the yellow and black races must not follow the example. Then where are they headed for? We must not leave them alone, but have them return to the original track of life. The white race has a lot of things to correct.

God has been blessing the white race, because there is providential significance to that, but if you go on like that, being decadent and being corrupted, God will not leave you alone. You need Reverend Moon here in order to stop this from prevailing -- all sorts of corruption can be corrected by our movement here.

The gigantic nation of the United States will be declining very rapidly. I have to stop it from going downward and lift this huge nation upward. Nobody else can do that but our group and I. Do you really feel the responsibility? There are college students overflowing in this country, but if they concentrate on the material side of things and satisfy their animal instincts, they cannot but perish.

We are here to correct the mistakes being made by youth in this country, and lift them up to the original position that God intended for them. We will try our very best and then if that project is not done, we will leave everything else in God's hands; and He will help us out. But first of all we will do our best. We have got to do that.

We have quite a few black members here. You must realize that up to the present, you have been the enemy of the white race. But our black members must not be critical of the white race. When Jesus was going up to Calvary bearing the cross, the person who bore the cross in place of Jesus was a black man. What do you call his name? Simon of Cyrene.

If the black man bears the cross to the end, he will be blessed in place of the white man. The time will come. If you complain and fight against the white race and are critical of everything being done by the white people, you don't deserve that prize. You must realize that you are bearing the cross in place of Jesus, or in place of the white race, and if you go on, never complaining, bearing the cross to the end, then blessed things will be yours. God will help you out, and human rights will be equal between black and white. You are in the stage of bearing the cross; but your time will come before long. Do you understand, you black members?

In that way alone, by bearing the most difficult cross, when you win the goal you are going to be lifted up, and God will come down to meet you and reward you. It is in God's providence that in this great nation of Christianity, the Negro people are treated that way. There is some association with a Negro man bearing the cross in place of Jesus.

You were brought to this continent and are bearing the cross for the white race. I know that it has been done in the providence of God, having the black race go through difficulties for the sake of the white race, and your time will not be too long. If the white race is not grateful for that, they are doomed to perish. If you go hand in hand with each other with balance of power and equal human rights, then both of you will be blessed.

I want you black members to bear the cross a little longer until you have born it enough. You must not be critical of the white race, but go back to their position and lift them up, help them out, and bring them to the original position of God's intention.

If the white race goes on rejecting us and fighting against our movement and myself, then the whole of the black race will come to my aid; I am sure of that. That's most logical, and that will take place. So I want you black members to be really one with the Divine Will. By the year 1977, I am going to make a black church, and concentrate on the black race.

So the white race must be awakened to the fact, and the black race must be unified into one. Before long, the Unification Church will be the hope of the black race. And the black race -- the yellow race too, will be easily united with the blacks. It is easy for the yellow race to reconcile black and white. That's why I mobilized PR members from the yellow race to go about from place to place, getting in touch with the firms and companies here in New York.

Everything taking place in our movement is for the sake of restoration through indemnity, like the case of the black race, bearing the cross for Jesus and the white race. So I want you black members not to complain a word against anything happening to you. If the white race goes on rejecting our movement, then before long the day will come in which the black race will be strongly united with our movement, take the lead over the white race.

So in our movement, both the white race and the black must do their best for the will of God. The time may come when I may have to order the white members to bear the cross in place of the black members. If the white race rejects our movement, that day will come. If you come to your knees before Communism, things more horrible will come about.

We are at the stage where we must pay the price for the Will of God, and we must feel the urgency of time. We are half way through the year; we are now in the second week of June, and we must feel the imminence of time and the urgency of time. We must be ready to pay whatever price is demanded of us for the will of God, and we must feel that we cannot afford to lose any moment of time, for the sake of the whole nation and the world.

In providential history, the yellow race is in the position of the eldest son in Noah's family. Shem was the source of the yellow race. Ham was the source of the black race, and Japheth was the source of the white race. History shows that the white race, ever since the Vikings (pirates), has been blessed, because there is a providential significance. The third son was blessed. We are now in the age in which the three races must be united into one.

The white race as a whole is the third son, in the position of the third son, while the black race is in the position of the second son, and the yellow race is in the position of the eldest son. Population-wise, too, the white race is the smallest in number, because it was born the latest. The second and third brothers are fighting with each other, and the eldest son must come reconciling the two.

It has been because God blessed the white race that they have hitherto enjoyed material wealth; but they exploited the black race and the yellow race. Without God's blessing, you could not have flourished like that, so you must be grateful to God; you must find out the significance of God's having blessed you. You have a mission to accomplish, and without God's help, you have nothing to be proud of. You have not been prosperous with your own power, but because of the blessing of God. You must not forget.

If you are too proud of yourselves, you, the white race will be in peril of being doomed. Here we are, black and yellow together, and we are striving hard to become one in harmony. Now we are in the age in which the people of the Western world must listen carefully to what the Easterners have to say. You must be directed by Orientals to the spiritual civilization.

There is no such thing as an accident or coincidence. Everything taking place is done under God's Will. God's Will is working behind human sins, so we must come back to God's Will and do it over again, beginning on the individual, family, national, and worldwide level. For this we are striving hard. And to win the goal we have to pay the price.

Back in ancient times, there had been strata or classes in human society; in some countries this has continued up until the present moment. But we have to demolish and annihilate all those classes and strata in human society. We must enjoy equal human rights. Suppose the black race pays a greater price for the Will of God. They will be more blessed by God. Suppose the yellow race does the same, and they will obtain more glory and blessing. You, the white race, must strive hard for that goal.

In the Second World War, the United States won over Germany and Japan; that, too, was done in God's providence. So you must lift up God's Will from that point on, never coming down. It just happened to be that we have mobilized more members from Germany and Japan. Male and female members together, the Americans must work harder than the Japanese members and German members here.

How many American members do we have? Hold up your hands, please. You must be determined to work harder than those people coming from other countries. Otherwise, you cannot keep your dignity. You will hurt the dignity even of God, because He has been blessing this nation for a special purpose.

After three years, I will leave everything in the hands of the American members; you must be prepared for that. Can you do that? (Yes.) Don't ever be beaten by the Japanese members and German members. You said "Yes," and I will trust you; and I have to make you be that way. And what you have to do is not to complain.

With the youth you see in the outside world, you cannot save this nation and the world. With the families you have now, you cannot save this nation and the world; with the nation as a whole as you see it, you cannot save the world. So our hands must be extended to them, to reach out to every individual, every family, every society, the nation as a whole, and the whole world. Do you understand me?

So you American members are destined to pay so many times greater a price than other people would pay. If the white Americans cannot do the job, I will raise the black members, and shame you white members. We must be able to have the American people discard their old ways of life and not to be so self-content; not to enjoy material abundance for themselves only but for the sake of the whole world.

Otherwise, this nation is doomed to perish. We must stop it from happening. With this knowledge, you American members, especially you white members, must strive harder than the rest of the Americans: I want you to be resolved to carry out the job, and I hope you have really understood what I meant.

You American members must separate yourself, or cut yourself from the old ties to the world, the old way of thinking, and old way of living, and be responsible for the salvation of this nation by stopping the outside world from going the same old way. Do you understand what I mean? We all must be ready to pay the price for the Will of God.

For the sake of this nation and for the sake of the whole world, we must cross over the point where Jesus prayed at Gethsemane: "Nevertheless, not my will, but thy will be done." We must pay whatever price is demanded of us by God for the Divine Will. I want you to be really resolved for that.

Anyone living on this earth thinks of himself or herself the most, and as most important. It is a human trait that one thinks of the family, and world centered on himself, and even thinks of God centered on himself. It is human nature to think of oneself in relation to others.

Then what is the source of one's self? Every man started his existence in God. We know that human history has existed for hundreds of thousands of years, but everything starts from one's self, myself, and everything has existed to bring about myself. There have been generations and generations in your ancestry.

If you can visualize your ancestral tree, you will see many types of people -- a tall grandfather, a short grandfather, a tall grandmother, a grandmother of small stature -- every kind. There were handsome and beautiful men and women, and some were crippled and disabled. So your ancestry, when it is visualized, is an encapsulation of humanity.

Seen from the viewpoint of God, the discrimination is that some of your ancestors were good and some were evil. We can imagine many types of ancestors. Some were thieves. Some were murderers. We cannot but think of our ancestry in those terms too. Those kinds of people are mingled into our bloodstream, and you are the product of that lineage. Therefore, if we think of our ancestry in terms of our vast past, we are not pure. We are not so clean; we are not so decent.

God knows everything -- your background, and your ancestral tree. In His eyes, more of your ancestors have been evil than good. Everyone here imagines that his or her ancestry has been good, or fairly good at least. But that is not the way it is. Again, I must say that you are the fruit of stained lineage, every one of you.

When we think of fruit, it is the result of one year's toil, and in one fruit there is every element -- the nutriments absorbed, and the sun, and the elements coming from the environment. You don't know the past story of the fruit, but if you have a small scar on the surface of an apple, for instance, there is a long story behind this.

It is human nature to think of things in terms of oneself alone, but this is not the right way. You think of things centered on yourself and say, "This is bad; this is good. This is bad because I don't like it. This is good because I do like it." But this is not the way we should think of things.

It is possible that your ancestry in general has been good, but in your generation, you yourself are committing many sins, and it makes your ancestry lower, or stains your ancestral lineage. Generation after generation your ancestors have been making graphic ups and downs. You are either situated on the peak of graphic ups and downs, or in the very low bottom. And when you are situated at a low point and you think of yourself being lofty and high, what would happen to your ancestry?

We have four seasons in a year, revolving around, one after another. Well, let's put this graph of ups and downs in circular form. Some are situated up here; some are down here. Some are towards the east; some are towards the west. The circle or sphere revolves as human history revolves. Compared to the seasons, we can say that our mornings correspond to spring, summer, corresponds to noontime, evening corresponds to the night. Centered on the point of noon, starting from early morning, we ascend or go up, but from the noontime, we begin to descend or come down.

You have so many ancestors. Some belonged to what we will call spring, some to summer, still others to fall, and the rest to the winter. That's in terms of the past; but on the horizontal level, in the present day, what we see around us can be classified like that too. Among you, there are some the type of spring, some the type of summer, some representing fall, and the rest representing winter, in terms of your dispositions, or in-born nature.

Those who belong to spring would take delight in making friends who belong to fall and those who belong to winter are more or less for those belonging to summer. When we find our mates, when we are blessed, we must think of people in those terms, too.

Our life itself can be compared to seasons, too. Our childhood belongs to spring, the adolescent period is a transition to summer, youth represents summer, middle-age represents fall, and the aged represent winter. Our human life is the total of spring, summer, fall, and winter. We pass from childhood, through youth, middle-age, and old-age. So we cannot like our childhood alone and feel like omitting some parts of our life belonging to summer, winter, or fall. The total experience of each age is our life.

What is the definition of a good man? A good man is the type of person whom children, youth, middle-aged, and the aged can like and vice versa, someone who can like children, youth, middle-aged, and the aged. If you are really entitled to the position of subject towards nature, you must be able to love spring, summer, fall, and winter alike. God likes children, youth, middle aged, and the aged alike.

We have many colors here -- white, black, yellow, blue, and red. God never likes just one of the races, but everyone. He likes and loves white people, black people, yellow people, and red people. With all those included, we can call this humanity. Human history has been woven with those people. The development of human culture has been too. In Western civilization too, there have been periods corresponding to human childhood, youth, adulthood, and agedness. Then where is Western civilization situated right now at this point?

Human history has had ups and downs. It went up like this, but came down again. But is this the end of human history? No. If it ends here, this can be called the close of the age. Coming down, you are prepared to go up again. If you go down, at the spur of the bump you can jump up again. We can say that Western civilization is going down, but is Western civilization prepared to go up again? Or is it at a dead end?

One most important thing is that we must never be arrogant in thinking of ourselves. You may be prosperous now, but there is no guarantee that you can keep that position. On the contrary, it is advisable that when you are up, you must be prepared to go down. When you are up, you must be doing something for those less well situated. Even though you are high up, if you are not supported by the people below you, you cannot really keep such a position. If you fail to do so, that's the end of it. Everything moves, not in a straight line, but making waves. This is inevitable.

You must realize that Western civilization is declining. So, if people of the West think of their nation alone and their prosperity alone, they are doomed to decline or perish. But at this point, if you think of the people of the world, the whole of humanity, there is hope for your civilization to soar up again. For instance, white people are enjoying the top, and the black people are here.

If the white people are doing things centered on themselves alone, the situation will be reversed. The same principle can be applied between the East and West. The world is not for the Orientals alone, or for the Occidentals alone. Because of the development of science, East and West came much closer, like relatives -- not neighbors, but relatives. With those two combined, we can picture the wholeness of the world. East and West will come together, but history will still move in waves, or ups and downs.

If those two are united and either one of them does things centered on itself, the harmony and unity cannot last long. We must ride on the tide of human history. When the white people go down, you cannot tread down upon the black race and go up, but you must push them ahead of you and go up. So the law of human history is to work for others and live for others, to help each other.

From this point of view, we can determine that those who are living for other people are destined to rise, and those who are living self-centered lives are doomed to decline. If you are receptive to other people and welcome other people, it means you want to be beneath them, uplifting those people.

On the spur of that power, you can go up again. If you are willing to welcome a person with yourself below him, then you are supported by that person and many others, and you are going to be lifted up. So the manner in which you welcome people is like this: you concede and give your seat to others. That's the way you welcome other people, and from that point on you can be lifted up.

If you are going to make your day a whole and sound day, your morning must concede or give way to the noon, noon must give way to the evening, and evening must concede to night. Morning cannot be so arrogant as to say, "I will cling to the morning, and I will make the whole day morning."

It cannot say that. However hard you may struggle, can you sustain childhood all through your life? You must respect the other age levels too. Rather, you must think that childhood is for youth to come, youth is for the adulthood to come, and the adulthood is for the aged period to come. Isn't it true? (Yes.)

This being the law of God and this being the law of nature, God is teaching us. God would want us to live for other people, sacrificing ourselves. Then in proportion to how much you live for others, you can be supported by others. You can become the nuclear or central figure, with all those people around you supporting you.

Then let's come back to ourselves. Would you want to live for yourself alone? (No.) Would you want to have other people live for your family? (No.) Wouldn't it be wonderful to have the whole world live for your nation? Well, if you are that greedy, your nation may prosper for a period of time. Then that is the end of it. At the height of prosperity, that nation can perish, and disappear from the human scene. But on the way of declining, if you are very careful to make another leap, the history of that nation can go on.

In human history, those who sacrificed themselves for the sake of other people survive, and then become part of the mainstream of human history to last generation after generation. If you are a patriot, if you are a person who has done at least something for the nation, your existence will remain as part of the history of the United States.

You will be remembered by other people, your name and deeds recorded in the history of America. If one sacrifices himself for the sake of the whole world, for the sake of all humanity, we can call him or her a sacred or holy person. From that viewpoint, we can call Jesus Christ the most holy man.

Then why is it that Western civilization, founded upon Christian ideology, is declining? This is strange. It is puzzling to me that a Christian nation like the United States is losing ground, the people becoming individualistic, while they have been taught to be sacrificial for other people. One sign that the Americans are becoming self-centered is that Christianity is declining in this country.

If there is a streak of hope in this nation, it is to revitalize the Christian spirit and have the people live sacrificial lives for the sake of others. Self-centered ideology is against God's will, and against the law of God, so it is natural for those who practice it to perish and decline. If we are going to rise up again, we must discard the old way.

The fundamental spirit of Christianity is to live for other people. Christianity is for the sake of the nation, something bigger than Christianity itself. If Christianity centers on itself and works for the prosperity of its own self, then it is doomed to decline. God sees Christianity as existing for the future generation and for the whole.

God does not take Christianity as the most important thing, but by using Christianity as the sacrifice, He wants to save the whole world. To God, the purpose of Christianity is most important. His purpose will be realized by using Christianity as the instrument. God set up Christianity in order to save all humanity. But Christians have been living self-centered lives, and this is the sign of the decline of Christianity.

Think of the chosen nation of the Israelites. God had prepared the nation of Israel, not for the sake of itself, but for the salvation of all humanity. They forgot their mission. This is the truth. Then, when we see things from the viewpoint of the whole and myself, if you put more emphasis on "myself," you are doomed to decline or perish. Is that clear to you? (Yes.)

Then let us stop to think of ourselves alone. Then for whom am I? In a word, I am for the whole. This kind of person is liked and loved by the whole, so we define him to be good, a good person. An evil person is disliked or hated by others, and that alone can define the evil man.

Centered on yourself, you have your ancestral past. In that light, who you are for? You are for the past ancestral people too. On the horizontal level, you have all humanity living on this earth. You are related to those people through your family, or relatives. On the horizontal level, you are for your family, your relatives, tribe, nation, and the whole world. Vertically, you are for your ancestors and for the future generations, your descendants.

If you live for the whole, you are situated in the central point; so among all of your ancestors, you are the most important person, if you have lived solely for others, for the whole. Your past ancestors would wish that you do things for the sake of other people more than they have done. On the horizontal level, in the present day, your relatives, your family, and your associates, would want you to live your life for the sake of other people. And your descendants, if they had will, would want their ancestors, yourself, to work for the sake of the whole. Then they can be proud of you. You must be the person who works for the sake of other people more than any of your ancestors have. Do you understand me? (Yes.)

You who are assembled here are Unification Church members. But I can see many differences in light of the service you have done for humanity, or for the whole. In general, we can think that in the Unification Church, all must enjoy equal rights; all are equal. But as I said before, we have some members who belong to spring, some others belonging to summer, still others belonging to fall, and the rest belonging to winter.

Four seasons put together -- we call it a year. The whole year consists of four seasons. Likewise, the Unification Church is like a body, and some play the role of the eyes, some of the ears, the nose, mouth, the limbs, or legs. But they have one thing in common. The eyes are not for the eyes themselves, but for the whole. The nose is not for the nose itself, but for the whole. You must realize that.

You must always have the notion of seeing everything through "Unification eyes," hearing everything through "Unification ears," smelling and talking through the "Unification nose and mouth." If you are in unity with each other, in harmony with each other in that way, we are going to be the strongest group, and what we are going to do is in the will of God.

You are not going in different directions as individuals, but all together you are going a certain way, directed by God. The whole body is moving, not just the eyes or the nose. We are moving towards the goal of saving the whole world. If you are willing to go that way through eternity, then we of the Unification Church will prosper through eternity, never perishing.

We must again realize that the Unification Church as a whole exists for the sake of the whole world, and not for itself alone. That is, Unification members should not live for the sake of themselves, but for the sake of all humanity. Are you that way? If each member of ours is really like that, our church can never perish.

In a way, we can think that we are losing: "If I am totally for someone else, and for the whole, where am I? What am I?" But in that case, if you deny yourself, and invest your whole being for the sake of the whole, then the whole in return will support you, and will live for you. As I always say, those who live for the sake of other people become the central figures. If you say that person is the central figure, without exception, that person is a sacrificial person, living solely for the benefit of others.

Every man, every group, and every organization would support that person to become the president of the nation. Then the definition of the central figure, or central personage, is the person who lives for the sake of other people. God is like that. It would take hours to go into detail, so I will leave it here and go back to the main point.

Where am I from and where can I locate myself? What is my position? Where am I situated? Don't ever try to find yourself in you, but in the whole world. If you live for others and reap what you have done, everything comes back to you and you become the central figure. You must never forget that you are the representative of the whole ancestral past.

You represent your past ancestors. And you represent your family, your relatives, your neighbors, the nation, and all humanity on the horizontal level. That's for the present. For the future generations, you must represent them, being the good start or seed from which to be multiplied.

Then what is the representative person? The person who is representative of all the rest is the person who has lived a life of total sacrifice for others. Is it true? (Yes.) The true central figure, or true representative of humanity, I must define again, is the person who has not only lived for the past, present, and future generations, but for the God of the past, the God of the present, and the God of the future. Would you like to be like this? (Yes.) If you are in that position, God would want to be proud of you before the ancestors of the past, before all humanity living in the present, and before the people of the future. Do you understand what I mean? (Yes.)

You are born out of your parents. You have been a part of your parents; so if all of your ancestors each claimed a part of you, you would have nothing left for yourself. So you must know that you do not belong to yourself. The conception of yourself can come about only when you relate yourself to other people around you.

You can think yourself important only on the basis of your being a product of your past ancestry, and your belonging to and representing the whole. Only then can you find yourself and place value on yourself. This is the only way you can locate or find out your value. Only in this way can you think of yourself as a central figure.

You are in the center of the cosmos with all the rest of the people around you. That's all right as the basis of the idea. If you exist for the sake of other people, and then come back to yourself and say that you are the central figure, naturally they will support you. But if you begin by wanting other people to serve you and be sacrificial towards you, then you will have nothing coming from those people, and you will have lost the whole world.

In order for you to claim yourself, you must put yourself in the central position, being sacrificial and doing things for the sake of other people. Then alone you can claim yourself. If you forget about everyone else and think of yourself alone, then you come to nowhere. And you will have lost everything.

Before the human fall, man was created to live for others; so the world of harmony and unity could have come about. But due to the human fall, man began to live for the sake of himself alone, doing all things in a self-centered way. That's the primary sign of the human fall. God is the center of the cosmos, and has been investing His whole self for the sake of the cosmos. So He can claim Himself as the center, or nucleus.

You too, after having served other people, can come back to yourself, locate yourself, put yourself in the central position, and think of yourself as important. Do you clearly understand? (Yes.) Then where are you bound? (The center.) In order for you to become the central point, what must you be doing? (Sacrificing.) Then where can we start? Among ourselves as the Unification members.

You live together as brothers and sisters. For instance, you are at the breakfast table, and your hands almost unconsciously reach for good, rich food first. Is that the way you should be? (No.) You want to wear better clothing than other brothers and sisters. That's not the way it should be. If there are good things, convenient to use, you want them available to yourself. That's not the way it should be.

Now that you have clearly understood what it means when you say you are the central figure, I want you to put it into practice. Every one of you likes to give orders to other people, or have others do something for you; but you don't want to do something for others. Isn't that true? (Yes.) I want you to go the reverse way, to do the things opposite to what you have been doing.

If you receive orders coming from other people, in utter humbleness, and do as you are told, then you can have dominion over all those people, and over their minds. At length, you can dominate the heart of God, because God is constantly giving orders to us to sacrifice ourselves for the sake of all humanity. If you are living up to that standard, then you can dominate God's heart too.

Now you have said you understood all I had to say, and you promised me that you will live this way of life. So I am going to push you hard from now on and have you work all through the 24-hour day; and you cannot object or complain. Is that true? Common sense says that you require eight hours of sleep, three meals a day, and should be limited to eight hours of work.

But our teacher, master, won't let us sleep, won't let us eat properly, and pushes us hard. In that case, will you be grateful, or will you complain? (Grateful.) If you become like that, God cannot but come to visit you all the time and live with you. He will dance about for joy.

You must remember this -- I must repeatedly say that you must be living for the past ancestors and present humanity and future generations; not only that, but also for the God of the past, the God of the present, and the God of the future. Then you will be living through eternity with God as your Father. God is looking for one like that. Human history of the past, present, and the future is looking for the person like that.

Wouldn't you want to meet such a person? (Yes.) Why, and for what are you going to meet that person? Yes, with him as the example, you want to become like him. If you want to really become like him, you must be taught by him. That person will surely educate you to become a sacrificial person, living for the past ancestors, present humanity, and future descendants, and for the God of the past, the God of the present, and God of the future. Would you still want to be educated by him? (Yes.)

Then, to make a long story short, this person will teach you to die, to deny yourself, for the past ancestors, present humanity, and future generations; to die for God of the past, the God of the present, and the God of the future. This Chinese character (using the blackboard) is "death, death, death, death." Would you like the idea? (Yes.)

From this viewpoint, we can take Jesus' teaching as the teaching of highest dimension. He said, "Those who want to gain their lives will die, and those who are ready to lose their lives will gain them." Is it a good teaching? (Yes.) Do you welcome that idea? (Yes.) Then go ahead and die. I want to see you die. You said you understand and you promised me that you will go the way, the way of death. You answered with your own lips. (Yes.)

If someone dies for the nation, the nation is under his domination, and if one dies for the sake of the whole world, he can dominate the whole world. If he can die for God, then God belongs to him. I don't think there is any other group where they are educated with this ideology. Unificationists alone are being taught this. You must be ready to die for the past generations, for present humanity, and for the future descendants: to die for the God of the past, the God of the present, and the God of the future. Isn't it a wonderful idea? (Yes.)

Then I want you really to be in the wonderful competition to live and die for the past, present, and future generations, more than anyone else in the whole world. And then you can gain the whole world. What you have done, your deed, is what you alone can claim; and with what you have done, you will live through eternity.

If you realize this in the real sense, you cannot say you are exhausted after having fought for several months, or several years in the local states. How many years could you live this way of life? How many years? One year? Only the present time? Forever? (Yes.) Then you can never complain. You can never dream of saying you are tired. Is that right? (Yes.) Are you that way? (No.) Not yet.

In the past, moral standards or religious teachings have been teaching something like this in smaller dimension. We exist for mutual benefit. Parents live for children; children live for parents. But the family as a whole lives for the relatives and the tribe. The tribe should live for the nation, the nation for the world, and the world for the whole cosmos, including the spirit world.

The whole world, or cosmos, should live for God. In that way we can erect the Kingdom of Heaven in the spirit world. The whole world, or cosmos, should live for God. In that way we can erect the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. Would you want to live in the Kingdom of Heaven on earth or in the kingdom where people live for the sake of themselves? (Kingdom of Heaven.)

Then we can safely define that those who live self-centered lives are doomed to hell; and those who live unselfish lives, for the sake of other people, are destined for the Kingdom of Heaven. You have nothing which belongs to you in the real sense. Are your eyes your own? (No.) They are created for the sake of other things and other people. They were inherited by you from your ancestors.

So first of all, you must never complain. Learn how not to complain and how not to be discouraged at the time of difficulties, how not to be exhausted after a long day of hard work. God can find out what kind of character you have only in times of difficulty. God will take out His notebook, and grade you at that moment, when you are in difficulty, when people are apt to grumble and complain. When you are in the situation where people are apt to be angry, indignant, or complain, and you smile and go through the difficult situation, in that manner, you will feel victorious. You are victorious.

In God's view, beauty is something different from what you think. Suppose that there is a beautiful girl and for a few days she been working out in the sun so many hours a day, that she became suntanned. She does not have make-up, and she looks rather ugly, outwardly. But that's the utmost beauty that God esteems in you.

If you have worked like that for the sake of your own self, there is no merit; but if you worked for the sake of other people, or the whole, then there is value in it. For instance, you are selling flowers or peanuts on the street, and sometimes you are rejected by the people. You have been called names, and things like this, and you almost cry out. But in that case, the tears are something of beauty. If you are grateful to God and almost happy in your heart because you are doing this for His sake and the sake of humanity, then the merit is yours and God will be proud of you. In later days mankind will have to be grateful to you.

Doing the same thing, if your attitude is like this, that's heaven, and if your attitude is the other way around, that's hell. So even though you are crying, don't cry for yourself, but cry for the whole, cry for God. Don't complain for the sake of yourself, but you can complain for the sake of God. For instance, "This evil world, what shall I do with this evil world?' I have to destroy evil from this world.'' That kind of complaint is acceptable. Every moment, you must be careful not to be accused of something by Satan.

I hope I made myself understood. If you go on living your lives for the sake of the whole, you can be proud of yourself. In our movement, we are doing that. We are going to put it into practice. And we will live for the sake of all humanity. I want you to be proud of what you are doing, and proud of the Unification Church. And we will live for the sake of all humanity.

I want you to be proud of what you are doing, and proud of the Unification Church. And we will have succeeded in our mission and build the Kingdom of Heaven on earth with our own hands. That's what makes it important that we are here, and makes us the most important group in the whole world. If we live this way, we can be proud of ourselves. Do you understand? (Yes.) Let's pray.

The Day Of Victory Over Resentment (May 1, 1974)

Those who are seeing me for the first time, will you please hold up your hands? Sixty-five.

As you all know, I started my speaking tour on the 15th of February, and I visited practically all the states of America, including Hawaii. I stopped in Japan and made a short visit back to Korea. Beginning in 1972, throughout 1973, and until 1974, I have continually said that these are our most crucial years; in the spiritual sense, these are the years of restoration of the world.

Restoration always comes through indemnity. In the beginning, due to the human fall, the satanic world came about. If the men had been obedient to God, the kingdom of God would have been established, centering on individuals, families, tribes, nations, and the world. But due to the fall of man, those levels were established centering on Satan, against the will of God.

We have seen the establishment of this and are now inhabitants of the satanic world. If God left this world alone, there would be no way for man to rid himself of satanic sovereignty, and God knows that Satan wouldn't let us go. Therefore, God has begun the project of restoration of man to His side. My topic is "The Day of Victory Over Resentment."

As you know, human life began centering on Satan, beginning from the individual level to the family level, tribal level, national level, worldwide level, and cosmic level. The original world of God's intention was a world centering on God on every level. Centering on all levels of things, God should have been up there, while Satan should be down here. But due to the human fall, the reverse happened, and now Satan is situated above God.

In another analogy, we can say that the spiritual world is up there, and the physical world is down here, separated from each other, out of harmony with each other. In an individual, too, there are always two powers at war with each other -- our spiritual side and our physical side. The same thing applies centering on the family level, tribal level, national level, and worldwide level. There is disharmony between the spiritual side and the physical side.

Thus, there are always two powers at war with each other in an individual. But we have to erect the world without war in an individual. A man who is perfected is a man without those two powers warring against each other. Has there ever been such an individual in the world? Without such an individual in the world, no ideal family can come about; and no restoration of the tribal level, national level, and worldwide level can begin.

So the fall of one man, Adam, caused the fall and corruption of the whole world. From one man's disobedience to God, came fallen men, the fallen family, the fallen tribe, the fallen nation, and the whole fallen world. So this whole world is under the dominion of Satan. In John 12:31 we read that the sovereign or king of the world is Satan. It goes on to say that Satan has gained the sovereignty of the air, too.

In order for God to restore this kind of world, He has had to work in the reverse order. He has to locate or send a person who can represent the harmonious world uniting the spiritual side and the physical side -- unified cosmos, world, nation, tribe, family, and individual. This man of perfection is the core of all levels of things; and if you get grasp of this one person, you can perfect your individual level, the family level; then the tribal level, national level, and worldwide level. All will all be realized under God's will. This central figure is the Messiah.

Then who is the Messiah? What is he?

Our first human ancestor fell, causing a world under satanic sovereignty. Therefore, from a man of God's will (a perfected man with harmony between the spiritual side and physical side) will come the world of unity on every level between the spiritual side and physical side. This man must come as the new human ancestor.

In the course of restoration, God must have this man of perfection, and restore individuals, families, tribes, nations, and the whole world according to the model of this man. This course is the act of religion. The chosen nation of the Israelites was the representative of this project of God.

In Christianity God wanted to restore one man in a proper relationship and harmony with God, and then centered on him, one family, one tribe, one nation, and the whole world.

To give you an analogy, this world is the world of wild olives under the dominion of God, and the world of wild olives under the dominion of Satan. The entire human race is in the position of wild olives, but the wild olives in the world of religion or Christianity, are in the position to be grafted to God. These people are willing to be cut off and engrafted to God, and they are at the disposal of God's act of restoration.

God first prepared the chosen nation of Israel, an orchard of wild olives, and then sent to them the central figure, the Messiah, to be engrafted to him. The Messiah is the individual of perfection as the true olive tree, and every individual must be engrafted to him in order to perfect themselves. All scopes and levels will be broadened like that. God has to realize this world on at least the level of the nation.

In utter obedience to this one man of perfection, all the rest of the world will be engrafted to him and be perfected as he is. To be in complete unity with him means to be in unity between your thought and his, between your words, and his, and between your actions and his. That means you must think the way he thinks, say things the way he would, and act out things the way he would. In this way the whole world will be restored, level by level.

But in human history has there ever been a man who was really in unity with this Messiah? Surrounding Jesus there was no single disciple who was completely united with him. Even including Jesus, there has never been a man who was in unity with God, centering on his family. There must be a family with the husband and wife being in complete unity with each other, centering on God. But this has never been fulfilled surrounding Jesus either. Without this kind of family fulfilled on this earth, we cannot expect that kind of thing on the tribal level, national level, and worldwide level.

A man of perfection, Jesus, came as the Messiah, but he could not form his family with a perfect unity between husband and wife. In that way, he failed to engraft all the rest of the world to him on each level. By the crucifixion, Jesus lost the prepared nation of the Israelites. He fulfilled his mission only on the spiritual level. But God's original intention was to have him fulfill the world of unity, both on the spiritual and physical levels, so he has to come back to establish what was left unaccomplished in his day -- the physical level.

He has to come back to establish the world of unity both on the spiritual and physical levels, even while both levels of the world are under the dominion of Satan. So he gets hold of people on both sides.

Today's Christianity believes in the crucifixion of Jesus. But that's not the way it should be. Nothing like salvation can come from the cross, only by the resurrection. By the crucifixion, everything was denied and lost. The nation, the church, John the Baptist, the disciples were all lost. He lost everything. Even the thief on Jesus' right hand, who was crucified with Him, he was not left alive. He died too. So the beginning of Christianity cannot come from the cross.

Christianity started when Jesus gathered the remnant of his disciples after his resurrection within the course of 40 days. So you must clearly realize that Christianity did not start with the crucifixion, but started from the resurrected Jesus. But this restoration is also not perfect restoration. When we say we are restored in Jesus, it means we are restored or saved on the spiritual level alone.

Centering on Christianity, everything starts from the beginning, to restore a man of perfection on the spiritual level, family of perfection, a tribe of perfection, a nation of perfection, and the whole world of perfection -- but only on the spiritual level. That's why in order to believe in Christianity, people have had to shed their blood, and many people have gone through martyrdom. So just as Jesus did, anyone who wants to be saved must go through the course of denying himself, bearing the cross, and pass through suffering and difficulties and martyrdom.

This is how divine mathematics has been: by sacrificing one man, God's side restores three men in his place. In order for a man -- the Messiah, for instance -- to be perfect, he must go through three stages -- formation, growth, and perfection. So, at the sacrifice of this one person, God could restore at least three persons. One person fought a fierce battle against Satan and defeated him; then, centering on him, a victorious family, tribe, nation, and world should have been realized. This world has been realized on the spiritual level, but not on both the spiritual and physical levels.

In this ideal world, the kingdom of God, any individual, family, tribe, or nation, and the world, can only be fulfilled after winning the victory both on the spiritual and physical levels. But in this world only the spiritual battle against Satan was fought and won. That's why the Lord has to come again.

Then why does he come again? Doe he come to dominate the spiritual world alone, or both the spiritual and physical worlds? (BOTH!) So the Second Advent of Christ must be realized not on the spiritual level, but both on the spiritual and physical levels. He must come as a man in the flesh.

The whole of Christianity is expecting to see him come and restore the world of perfection just like that: the nation, tribe, family, and every individual. So the whole world, on all levels, is expecting the Lord of the Second Advent to come and save them, because they know that they cannot be saved unless he comes to the world. Surrounding him individuals can be saved, families, tribes, nations, and the whole world. But, very ironically, the Christian world believes in the coming of the Lord of the Second Advent on the clouds, in a spiritual manner.

Christianity has spread all over the world, but this has been done only on the spiritual level. So in the real sense, the foundation is less than in the time of Jesus. Then a nation was restored or prepared both on the spiritual and physical levels.

As you know, before the time of Jesus the prophecy of the coming of Elijah was given. But Elijah did not show up in the way they expected, for, as Jesus pointed out, he came in the person of John the Baptist. So Elijah, too, came as a person in the flesh. However, at that time the prepared people, the Israelites, could not believe in Jesus Christ; they simply could not believe in him because they knew that Elijah had not come in the spiritual manner they expected -- on the clouds. The Divine Principle has taught you all these things, so I will omit most of this part.

So with the coming of the Lord of the Second Advent, the whole restoration must be redone, both on the spiritual and physical levels. Complete restoration must be accomplished. The Christian population of the world, like the chosen nation of the Israelites in Jesus' days, must be in complete unity with this Lord of the Second Advent.

In that case, individuals can be restored in unity with him, and families, tribes, nations, and the whole world can be restored surrounding this person. This Lord of the Second Advent must fight and win the basis of restoration on the spiritual level, beginning from the world and nation, in a reverse order. He must be able to fight against myriads of satans and win sovereignty over the whole world on the spiritual level, letting God dominate the whole world, encompassing all levels. Do you understand what I mean?

In order for him to stand here, he must first go through all these stages and overcome the whole satanic world. He must also restore the rest of the world on the physical level. He must develop the work of restoration on the physical level, stage by stage, reaching out even to the end of the world. He must liquidate the battle between God and Satan. God alone has not been able to do that. This time the Lord of the Second Advent in flesh will establish all those things in place of God.

This man must be equipped with the qualification of having won the battle against Satan on all those levels on the spiritual side. When the spiritual victory is won by this man, then anyone engrafted to him, anyone in unity with him can be perfected both on the spiritual and physical levels. Every other level will be established or realized in like manner.

The man of perfection has the unity of the spiritual side and physical side. In him spiritual restoration corresponds to the restoration of the angelic world, and the physical restoration corresponds to the restoration of the physical world, Adam's world. This is because according to the Principle, God created man's physical body first... the angelic world was created first, the spiritual world was first -- the angelic world first, and Adam's world next.

The Lord of the Second Advent… when we say that he will have restored the whole world on the spiritual level, this means for him to have restored the angelic world. Then after having realized the restoration of the angelic world, or the spiritual world alone, he can locate a man both on the spiritual and physical levels. Then this man is without the accusation from Satan; because the satanic world is in the position of the fallen angelic world... Is everything clear to you? (YES.) You must know this at least.

The Lord of the Second Advent must accomplish what was left unaccomplished by Jesus, and from that point on he has to restore every level of things on the physical level. Do you understand? (YES.) If the Christian world unites with the Lord of the Second Advent, the whole world can be restored in seven years' time. I am talking about things never written in the Divine Principle book, so you must be attentive to what I am saying. You don't know the timetable of God in our age. You must know that.

But the whole Christian world cannot unite with him right away because they have been believing in the Lord of the Second Advent coming in the clouds of heaven. That's the problem. So why did God tell His people that there was the possibility of Jesus' returning on the clouds? Because the whole world was not under God's dominion, rather it was under Satan's; this being the satanic world, if God is too frank with His utterance, the people would not leave the Lord alone, but would deny him and kill him. Even before Jesus, God had sent many righteous men to the world; all of them without exception played the role of a secret agent of God, in the satanic world.

So when God communicated with these righteous men, He could not straightforwardly tell them what to do and what would happen; He told them only in coded messages, because they were in the enemy world. Important things, without exception, were written in parables and symbols in the Bible, so only God's people can interpret them. Through revelation, the people of God's choice could understand and interpret them.

For instance, if America is going to send spies or secret agents into Soviet Russia, or any nation that is potential enemy to the United States, would she send the message in plain language or in code? (Coded message) Only the top CIA personnel and the one to receive the message know the code and can interpret it. Nobody else can. Today's Christians don't understand this secret of God, and they try to interpret the Bible verses literally.

We see many examples. For instance, the book of Malachi predicted that Elijah should come before the Lord. Elijah was expected to come on the clouds of heaven in a mysterious, supernatural manner. God's intention was for John the Baptist to explain all those things, because he was a man of God and should be able to interpret them. The same thing could happen in these days, in our age.

Most of the things written in symbols and parables in the Bible must be interpreted by a man of God. Just one person is capable of doing this -- not the theologian, not the church ministers. No such persons can. In the Divine Principle we bring everything to light.

As I said before, if the whole Christian world unites with this man, the restoration of the whole world will be easy, and in the shortest possible future the whole world will be restored into the kingdom of God. But if Christendom is against this Lord of the Second Advent, what would happen? All these things will be lost again.

The Lord of the Second Advent, before his appearance on the human stage, should have already won the battle against Satan on the spiritual level. So he cannot fail this time. With himself as the core, he can restore the whole world on the physical level too. This is because he has already won the battle with Satan on the spiritual level.

Do you understand? So surrounding the Lord of the Second Advent the physical restoration will be accomplished, because he has inherited what was accomplished by Jesus on the spiritual level. And what he has left to do is to restore the world on the physical level. Do you know this clearly?

The Unification Church is standing exactly in that position. We have lost the bases accomplished by Jesus Christ because practically the whole Christian world has been against our movement. So starting right from the beginning, we have to establish the individuals, families, tribes, nations, and the whole world, both on the spiritual and physical levels.

We are in place of the whole Christian world, having restored the things on the spiritual level, and we are now going to restore the whole world on the physical level. So we will go on restoring the world, both on the spiritual and physical levels. The full scope of the restoration will take place surrounding us.

Before Father was erected as the central personage, he won the battle against Satan. So he has been standing on the basis of having won over the spiritual world. This means he has inherited what the whole of Christianity has been able to accomplish on the spiritual level. After restoring the angelic or spiritual world, he is now going to restore the world on the physical level.

And he is always one step ahead of the rest of the world, and the rest of the world is destined to follow him. Do you understand what I mean? He has to re-create individuals into his likeness, and the families into the likeness of his family; tribes, nations, and the whole world will be restored in this manner.

The problem is that Jesus was crucified, sacrificed on the level of the nation. The nation was restored, but he was sacrificed on that level. All the churches were against him. The whole nation, including Judaism and all religions, were against him, which drove him to death. When we say "restoration through indemnity," it means for our central figure to restore what Jesus had gone through, by going through the same stages.

Centering on him, Korea is in the position of the chosen nation of the Israelites at Jesus' time. Korean Christians were in the position of Judaism in Jesus' day. If the Korean Christians, the Korean government, and the nation as a whole had been one with him, then the world restoration could have been but a matter of time.

But they both went against our movement, and I had to start all over again. So my work has had to be that of restoration of individuals, families, nations, and the world, both on the spiritual and physical levels -- spiritual things first. I have gone through untold battles and difficulties and hardships, going through all those bitter persecutions. And now we are at the stage of having restored the nation of Korea, because the government is in favor of us; they began to recognize our movement.

We have now gone beyond the level of what Jesus accomplished, because he was rejected by the nation, and I won the favor of the nation. Do you understand? That's why I could come to the United States, which is the leading nation of the free world or the Christian world. If the nation is on my side, sooner or later, then I can forgive the Christian world who killed Jesus and denied me. In that sense, too, this is the project of the Second Coming. It is the Second Coming into the world of Christianity.

What I am doing during these three crucial years in the United States corresponds to what I have already said. Is everything clear to you? Even though Korea has not quite received him as the Lord, if the United States is receptive to our movement and then recognizes him for who he is, then the whole world can be forgiven and saved under the Divine Will. Without your being conscious of the fact, the White House, the whole government, and the whole religious world are disputing about our movement. This is exactly what happened in Korea a few years ago.

In these three years, I must become at least the controversial figure in the United States, and even the kindergarten children should know my name by the end of three years. I have become famous. During seven concentrated months I have become a noted figure in this world. If this nation receives the message through me, this nation will be saved. But if this nation goes against our movement, this nation is doomed to fall.

It is interesting for me to notice that during my speaking tour, even though Christians have been more or less against our movement and speaking tour, the government, starting from the White House through the local government officials, governors and mayors, gave me bundles of proclamations, thanking me for what I am doing. So the United States has set up the condition of not being corrupt, or being doomed to fall, even though the Christian sphere in this nation will fail. Do you understand?

Even though the Christians of the United States are against our movement, we must go beyond the level and go hand in hand with the government. If that can be done, we can restore this nation by 1977, or at the latest, 1978. The two or three years prior to that will be crucial years on the worldwide level, with Communism rampant.

The three-year course on the worldwide level will be 1976, 1977, and 1978. In these three crucial years, if the United States has failed to remain in the position of the leading nation of the world, she is doomed to perish. This is not a man-made calculation; this is the formula coming from the divine will. God's will is always working behind human scenes. Nothing can just come casually, without the will of God. There has always been a battle between God and Satan. Do you understand?

You must know the significance of why I had to go through all those 50 states in my speaking tour this year. You must know why I didn't concentrate my work in a big city like New York, and why I didn't bring all the members here to this great city. If I concentrate only on the project in New York, all the spiritual men who lived in the various states and passed away will complain against me: "Why do you leave my children alone without leaving a footprint of yours directly in my state?"

Even Satan will accuse me of being not fair, if I concentrate on the city of New York, putting more stress in one place. Salvation or restoration is not for New York alone, but for every state and the whole nation, and the whole world. That's why I have visited every state this time, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Several years ago in Korea the whole Christian world came against me. Now we are in the position of attacking them. Individuals, even including the laymen of the churches, are more convinced by our theory than by the theories they have been taught by the established churches. Do you understand? We have theories appealing to human reason, so however hard they may struggle, the Christian world cannot win over us. Isn't it true?

I visited every one of the 50 states. The spiritual bases created by the Christian world could not do anything against me. So I am just sweeping the whole nation.

The United States, as you well know, is the central nation of the Christian world. God has prepared this nation to be receptive to the Lord of the Second Advent. This nation is in the position of the prepared wild olive trees, on the side of God. You have been enjoying in this nation freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

Those are the assets which would enable you to receive the Lord of the Second Advent. That's the way God prepared you people, the people of the United States. Now I am reaping the fortune and accomplishments of the Christian world. The Christian world has been coming against our movement, so the fall of the Christian world started from the year 1960, and it is declining up to the present moment. Conversely, our Unification movement is going up.

What I have accomplished on the spiritual and physical levels in Korea is now brought here. All that was won on the spiritual level in the Christian world and now in the United States will be engrafted to us and inherited by us. By being successful in the United States, we will go beyond the level of the nation to that of the world, both on the spiritual and physical levels. We will reach out to the last man of the whole population of the world. Do you know what I mean? Unless we inherit what was accomplished in the Christian world on the spiritual level, the whole world has no hope to be saved.

We inherit what was accomplished by Jesus on the spiritual level during the second seven-year course. We start from there towards the end of the world, both on the spiritual and physical levels. When our movement was on the national level, even though the Christian world came against our movement, we went beyond them and they had to decline.

We won the favor of the nation through the government, and thus established the foundation of having won both on the physical and the spiritual levels. So we are now doing the same thing on the worldwide scale in the United States, both on the spiritual and physical levels.

If this nation of the United States opposes our movement to the last and the divine plan of God is shifted to another nation, what we have reaped here will not be lost. If the United States should fail to receive us, we will go to England; if England will not accept our movement, we will shift to Germany. It is much easier for us to restore the nation of England, because the Christian world there is declining so fast, and therefore everything is well prepared in that sense for them to receive us.

If you want to make our project in the United States a success, you must dash forward on the road of restoration during these three to four crucial years -- 1975, 1976, 1977, and at the latest, 1978. By that time, if the nation rejects us, our plan will be shifted to another nation. I have gone through my course of three years already, and from now on it is going to be your course of three more years to restore the nation. I urge the American members to do your dead best, your deadly best in these three years. If you are united with each other and if you can unite the people of the United States with our movement, both on the physical and spiritual levels, our battle will be victorious.

What I have gone through in these three years is the internal base, and what you are going to do will be the external base. You must restore this nation within those three to four years. I have done what I could on the spiritual level; I have restored the angelic world in this nation. Your job is to restore the physical world. That's your job to do, your mission. Don't forget those three crucial coming years. Do you really understand?

Up until 1977 and 1978, we must restore this nation. We must defend this nation from satanic invasion. But we see corruption coming about in individuals, in families, and in the whole nation. Families have been broken down. The whole nation is being shattered. The nation has broken down, and the families broken down, and the individuals broken down.

You are on the verge of life or death. Just as Adam and Eve fell by illicit love, in the Garden of Eden, the same thing occurs in this nation. People are not taking seriously the chastity of individuals; the view of the family and view of the nation is declining, and becoming corrupted. He means that you apply free sex and such things in this nation, and abandon virtuous things.

Are there any individuals or any families in this nation who are ready to sacrifice themselves for this nation? Everyone is individualistic in this nation. They are not ready to sacrifice themselves for the cause of the whole nation. They are extremely individualistic. So you are at the dead end.

The nation cannot be defended unless there is an individual in this nation ready to sacrifice himself for his family, for the whole nation. Are you determined to do the job? If you are really determined to carry out the mission, hold up your hands in pledge before God.

Let me tell you some serious things. Up to the present moment, those who are in Abel's position have been sacrificed by those in Cain's position. Abel is on the side of God, while Cain is on the side of Satan. In order to save the people in the satanic world, righteous men on God's side have hitherto been sacrificed.

Now it must the other way around. In the Garden of Eden when man fell, Adam was dominated by the archangel; the reverse should have happened. In the family the same thing came about, also in the tribe, nation, and the whole world. Those in the position of Abel have been sacrificed or shattered by those in the position of Cain. The evil side won the sovereignty over the righteous side. But this must be turned the other way around. I myself have said so.

Those who are in Abel's position have sacrificed both on the individual level, family, tribal, national, and worldwide level until the present moment. Satan has been fighting against God's people on all those levels. He attacked first, and those who are in Abel's position have been in the defensive posture, not attacking Satan.

Before being able to restore the world, and in order to protect ourselves, we must fight against the satanic power. Under Satan's persecution, we have had to defend ourselves up to the present moment. But now we must attack them. (Mrs. Choi: He thinks I have said what he was going to say.)

Even though an individual has perfected himself, if he cannot establish his family, it is as if he is without defense. He is the core on the internal base, so it is as if he does not have external protection. In every religion, this is the core principle. When you are really protected and safe, you must establish external things as a fence to protect you.

In any religion, if the core figure is to win, he has had to overcome Satan to set up himself as the center, by denying himself. Through prayers he must restore himself on the physical level. That corresponds to God's creating the angelic world first, and later the physical world. In prayers, he must fight against the fallen archangel. When you pray intense prayers, the spirit side will come and attack you, and you must fight against them and overcome them.

I must again say that God created the angelic world first, so we must restore our perfection on the spiritual level first, and then we must deny our fleshly side. That means Abel is in the position of being attacked by the archangels, being sacrificed. That's the course of restoration in us as individuals.

When we are struggling hard to perfect ourselves on the spiritual level, we must deny our physical side. We will find ourselves being attacked by myriads on the spirit side. But after winning that battle, the spirit side will cooperate with us. They will be obedient to us, helping us to restore ourselves on the physical level too. So harmony can come about between our physical side and our spirit side.

This is the reason why, in Christianity, we have been denying our fleshly side, living an ascetic life. In our movement, too, the same thing must be applied. I am driving you hard, making you go through difficulties first on the physical level. That's exactly what I have gone through myself. Without going through these stages, we cannot restore ourselves.

It's from this principle that we are doing that. The same principle must be applied on the individual level, family, tribal, national, and worldwide levels. The same kind of battle must be fought and won, but the scope becomes larger and larger. You must be ready and willing to sacrifice yourself for the cause of the family, tribe, and nation. If you are not willing to do that, there is no hope for the whole nation and the world to be saved. Do you clearly understand the formula?

If you or any individuals are going to restore yourself in perfection and harmony, you must first of all deny your physical side and have your physical side go through difficulties and hardships by restoring yourself on the spiritual level. And then your spiritual side will come into harmony and cooperate with what you are going to restore, which is your the physical side.

The spiritual world is the angelic world. The whole physical world must be restored after the angelic world which is the spiritual world, is restored. The physical world is Adam's world. The angelic world is the spiritual world. This is the original situation.

Who is going to do this? All by yourself you cannot carry it out. On the national, tribal and family levels, the same thing must be accomplished centering on your central person. So without someone one step ahead of you, whose example you can follow, you cannot dream of realizing this restored world. Our Father is in the position of being one step ahead of you.

Adam and Eve were the first human ancestors, but due to their fall, they became false ancestors of mankind. True Parents and true ancestors must come in their place. What we are doing now, centering on the True Parents, is the restoration of the world, centered on this nation of America. We are now in the stage of restoring the United States as a nation, representing the whole world, within these three years.

Up to the present moment, Satan's side has been attacking us, the men of the Godly side. In other words, those in the position of Abel have been attacked by those in the position of Cain. But from now on the reverse will come true, and those who are in Abel's position can attack those who are in Cain's position. And if any sacrifice is going to be paid at all, those in the Cain position will do that. Do you understand?

From now on, what you do you yourself will reap. You can claim what you have done on the individual level, family level and national level, and the whole world will be restored in this manner. This is the time when things reverse; this is going to happen, and is now happening. Those who are in Abel's position will attack the other side.

Without the human fall, God would have been in the dominant position, while Satan would have been trodden upon below. The reverse happened, due to the human fall. So mankind has to climb up the hill in the course of restoration, while Satan will decline. The transitional period can come about. The crossroads is here.

Up to this point, Godly people have gone through the course of indemnity; but from now on, the satanic side has to pay the toll of indemnity. Our own portion of indemnity will be lessened and lessened. Our portion of indemnity will be lessened into nothing as the scope of this change grows bigger and bigger; and the indemnity on the Satanic side will grow bigger and bigger. Midnight is over, and our new day will dawn. May the first, 1974 is the crossing point. I called that day "The Day of Victory Over Resentment."

After finishing my speaking tour in Hawaii, I made a brief visit back to Korea, and I declared that day on May 1, 1974. Our movement was officially established in 1954. We are now entering our 21st year. Somehow the urge came into my mind, and I set up the day on May the first, but I just didn't realize it was the day of the founding of our church. I just forgot the fact. Then I found that the urge came from heaven on the very day of the official founding of the church. I thought, God is a God of science, a God of mathematics.

So you must realize that we are beyond the crossing point now. From now on, I want you to be full of confidence to do any work. As an individual, if you attack others, they will be shattered. You must have that confidence. As a family, if you attack other families, they will be shattered, they will be sacrificed, not yours. From now on our movement will be prosperous, winning many members and sympathizers. As time goes by, we are going to increase, not decrease; go up, not down.

Due to the human fall, Adam lost both what is spiritual and physical, but we are now going to regain or restore the spiritual and physical realms lost at the time of Adam. You need faith in God and confidence in yourself. You must attack the satanic side. And you can mobilize the angelic world to aid you. The spiritual world is like the angelic world. Our place is the unfallen Adam's world. We are in the position to command the satanic world. The spirit world is in the restored archangel's position, so they've got to come and help us.

Spirit men, including your ancestors, can be mobilized and used by us, and they have to help us. Those who are against our movement and persecute us will be punished by the spirit side, because the whole spirit world will be mobilized to aid us. Many such things will happen. When we have won the nationwide level of things, then you will find that the leaders in the Communist world will be demolished and die away.

If President Nixon comes in full cooperation with our movement, then however hard the Senate and the House of Representatives wants to impeach him, he cannot be impeached. It can never work out. We must set up in this nation the base for the individuals and the nation as a whole. Are you confident to do the job? But as I said before, all by yourselves, you cannot carry it out. You need me. You must have absolute faith in me, myself and in what I am telling you.

You cannot go by leaps and bounds; you must go through all those things step by step. When you solve mathematical problems, you have step by step goals. Even great mathematicians, even your ancestors, when they had to solve problems, they had to go step by step. Until we have won the national level of things, you must go step by step, and everyone must go through the same stages.

There is no freedom in this whatever. If you want to enjoy freedom and go about the other way around, you will never get anywhere. God has provided Americans freedom to choose their own religion in this nation; it must be applied only one time, for one purpose. Even though there is no freedom, and you have to go step by step, are you ready to go that way?

You must be in utter obedience to what I am saying, because in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve fell because they disobeyed God's commandment. Due to their disbelief in God, they lost freedom. So in the course of our restoring true freedom, we must be obedient to God. God is calling you to obedience through me. We must have utter faith, absolute faith in God.

Adam and Eve fell because they did not believe in. obey, and love God. So in the course of restoration, we must obey and believe in God's commandment, and we must love God. If we really love God, then we can keep His commandments. We must believe in God, and we must restore the love of God.

Then we can become free men and live as the inhabitants in the kingdom of God, after erecting it ourselves. For freedom in the last days we must first of all believe in God and love Him, restoring love and faith. That's the restoration through indemnity. Even though you may not be able to enjoy freedom here, you must go through these stages in order to gain freedom.

You are the fruit of the disbelief of our ancestors, and you have lost Godly love, so in restoring Godly love and faith, you must go through all these difficulties. Without your doing this, you cannot dream of being restored. If you only want freedom in this world, you will go on and on being the children of Satan. If you are given freedom, you will be dragged away by the fleshly side. So I must drive you to go the other way, even though you are not going to enjoy freedom now. You must deny the fleshly side and respond to the call from heaven. Isn't that true?

If I let America go on like this, she is doomed to perish. The people are going the way of animals. A true, internal view of life, individuals, and everything must be established. You cannot enjoy both the freedom on the external base (or fleshly side) and the spiritual side. Either one of these must be denied. You must take the spirit side.

Now that I have paved the way for you, you must have confidence in God, and in His love, and then you must represent all the individuals, the whole young population of the world. In confidence you must fight on until you win all things on the individual level, family level, national level and worldwide level.

We have to create life, family, and parents. We must create the tribe; the tribe has to pave the way of the nation. With the individual level established, we have to create the next level of the family, and then the tribal level, and national level, and worldwide level. We have to create the next level centering on the previous one, because in the creation, Adam was created first, and then from Adam came Eve and their family, and they multiplied to become the whole world.

You must have that absolute faith that you can overcome Satan. You have nothing to do with Satan. Being God's children, you can defeat Satan on the individual level, family level, tribal level, and national level, and then on the worldwide level too. You must have confidence. You must know that you have inherited what I have established, and you are engrafted to what I have done, engrafted to me, myself.

For instance, there is a big tree, and there are many branches. What kind of branches would you want to become; the big boughs or smaller branches? Centering on you as an individual, you will be multiplied into more branches, your family, tribe, and nation. You must be able to influence your family, tribe, nation, and the whole world. Can you do that? I cannot trust you. I need confidence from you and in you.

If you pour out your whole effort, whole being within these three years, the world will change. "Have your belt on tight." That's a Korean way of expression. And strive hard. Now we have crossed over the junction. Our fate is set. So if I am going to die right at this moment, our will -- God's will through us -- will be prosperous and successful.

We are ascending, non on the way of decline. With this knowledge, and with the confidence coming from this knowledge, you must fight on until we annihilate the satan, who has been accusing God and accusing mankind. That's why I set up The Day of Victory Over Resentment, and from this day on, we are destined to rise up, as I said before. We are destined to rise, while Satan is doomed to decline.

The Standard Bearer of Tradition

In a family, the one who inherits the tradition of the family is not an old man but a young man. Those who inherit the tradition of the country are also young people. This was true in the past, and it is true today as well, that those who inherit tradition are young people. For example, in the country of Japan, if no one inherits the Japanese tradition correctly, then Japan's prosperity will be undermined in the future, and Japan will naturally head in a more difficult direction.

Who should assume responsibility for the world and for the establishment of the ideal world? From the viewpoint of God's dispensation, it is God's earnest desire that young people should take responsibility to establish the tradition of God for the new world.

When we look back to the Old Testament Age, such old men as Noah, Abraham or Moses were setting the tradition. Jacob was an exception. When the era changed to the New Testament Age, we find the central figures were young people, like Jesus and John the Baptist. They were the ones who desired to inherit the tradition of heaven. They tried to substantiate this tradition in the world during their 20s and 30s. If the ideal tradition of God's nation centering upon John the Baptist had been established, then the tradition centering upon Jesus could have become the standard tradition for the coming world.

Young people are not influenced that much by society once they choose their own direction. If they decide something in their minds and hearts, they do it without hesitation. They tend to put my teachings into practice immediately. Young students especially have a strong desire to establish themselves as God centered people.

Certainly, God's hope must rest with young people rather than old people. Therefore, it is the principled point of view that the Completed Testament Age begins centered upon young people.

The Purpose of Tradition

We must understand clearly the purpose toward which the tradition is aiming. Before we save our country, we must save our own relatives. Before we save our own family, we must save ourselves. So, first of all, our goal must be individual perfection. If God's hope is with young people in the Completed Testament Age of Unificationism, it is no mistake to say that you were chosen as the center of God's hope to fulfill His main mission for today, and set the central standard of tradition. This is true not only in Japan. Most of the overseas members of the Unification movement are young people. In America, the average age is between 23 and 25. If these young people offer their lives for this purpose, and if they live their daily lives with total commitment, the new tradition will certainly be built by following this kind of life.

Japan can have a new hope for the future if she has this kind of young people. At this time, of course, Japan desires prosperity for herself. But if she has a burning resolution to create a better world tomorrow; and if she goes beyond the nation, hand in hand with young people of Asia, with one international heart; and if her policy remains internationally oriented over a long period of time; then she will not decline but prosper among the Asian nations and will naturally emerge as a central nation on the worldwide level. You have a mission to inherit such a tradition, and you must also build up the tradition when you inherit it.

From this point of view, we of the Unification Church need to have an educational system that can direct the education and ideals of young people toward an international outlook.

Those of you gathered here are all young people. You are still pure and have hearts that have not been corrupted by this world. You should have a new resolution in your heart. If your minds and bodies are united with new resolution and confidence, and if you become perfect men and women who are loved perfectly by God, how greatly can God rejoice! The highest and greatest desire of God, who created Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, is to find a perfected man and woman, a son and daughter who can realize God's purpose of creation, and who are qualified to be loved by God eternally. God must have centered all of His hope in His son and daughter in the garden, and dreamed about the future development of their world. But all of His hopes and dreams were destroyed by the fall. After that, in the course of the dispensation of salvation, God lived through the history of the old generation age, through the adult generation age, and came to welcome today's age of the generation of youth. How much hope did God have for Adam and Eve before their fall? When we think about this point, we can realize that today's generation of youth is precisely what we would expect for the Completed Testament Age.

The Tradition of Loving and Being Loved

It is natural and principled for you to love God in the same way that He loves you. So when you long for God as the vertical center of your life, and when you are loved as His son or daughter, then a tradition of love can begin. You cannot make a start toward individual perfection unless you establish this tradition. The family is composed of individuals, so first of all you must be loved by God as an individual. But not only that, you should welcome God as your Parent, and return with filial piety the love that you received from Him. You have not even reached the starting point of individual perfection until the reciprocal love of parent and child is established on the vertical position.

You speak about it often, but what is individual perfection? It is to establish the absolute vertical parent and child relationship through faith. You as a child will also come to love God in the same way as God loves you. God and child are inseparable since love is established in such a reciprocal relationship.

You should not cry for yourself, cry for God. You should do things in order to establish the harmonious subject-object relationship and a unified sphere. You enlarge the sphere of your activities in order to strengthen this subject-object relationship. By doing so, God's dominion is expanded into a larger sphere of His dominion.

When you come face to face with your husband or your wife, you enlarge your sphere of dominion to the level of the family. A man for a woman, a woman for a man -- this relationship of a man and a woman is not simply a relationship for their own selves. The family is the central sphere of heart where the members are horizontally strongly connected, centered upon God. In the relationship of husband and wife, a wife can love her husband, whom God loves, the same as God loves him. A husband can love his wife, whom God loves, the same as God loves her. When they can fully embrace this relationship of loving and being loved centered upon God, they become one.

God is not lonely when Adam and Eve love each other. He feels the power of His own love. The relationship of absolute love and oneness of Adam and Eve is the substantial realization of elements within God's inner mind. Therefore, when He looks at them, they do not repel Him, but together they form the attraction of positive and negative elements.

Absence of the Tradition of True Love

The tradition of genuine happiness centered upon this kind of family was never established on earth because of the fall of the first human ancestors. We know this very well. It is an undeniable fact that we are born as the descendants of the fall. So, when we think in this way, we cannot say that our parents are parents of goodness. If this concept is enlarged, the race also has not inherited the standard of goodness. Being descendants of the fall, we are in a realm whose origins were not from God, but from Satan. It must be the desire of all fallen people to change from this realm of death.

We cannot easily solve this problem by our own efforts. Even if we wish for liberation, we, who are dominated by Satan, do not have wisdom superior to that of the archangel. It is absolutely impossible for us, who have less power than Satan, to overcome this situation. The natural conclusion would be that the human race must remain in the eternal realm of death. So, if there is anyone who can change this situation, it must be none other than the good God who is the enemy of Satan. The numerous saints were God's hands of salvation reaching down to this miserable human race. When this foundation of saints sent by God is enlarged, the families, societies and nations of this satanic world will be displaced. Therefore, it is natural for Satan to give his utmost effort to try to destroy God's saints, sages and prophets. We are very familiar with the history of the prophets, saints and righteous people who came to this world, were persecuted, and in some cases killed. From that foundation of death and sacrifice, God has been carrying out His providence, enlarging His sphere from the individual to the spheres of the new family, clan, tribe and world. For that purpose, God established religion.

Christianity As God's Foothold

In modern times, religious spheres have created cultural spheres on the world level, and God's desire is to unite them together into one. It is God's dispensation to mobilize a movement that unites this world of religious and cultural spheres into one, and brings them back to God's ideal world of goodness. The one who is sent to complete this plan is the Messiah. Conversely, this plan is messianic thought. But when the Messiah comes, he cannot accomplish these things alone. Since the Messiah is coming, the interracial foundation corresponding to this messianic ideal must be created. Christianity is a unique religion in that it developed its cultural sphere throughout the world. Why could Christianity become a world religion? Why not other religions? Theoretically speaking, it is because Christianity is the religion that best represents God's will and internal heart. Christianity has penetrated to the core of God's will and heart, and preserved this until the present time. God loves Christianity, and since God is a world level God, it is natural for Christianity to develop throughout the world. God desires love. According to Jesus, God is not the Lord of Judgment of the people in heaven and earth, but the Father of Love. There is no religion other than Christianity which understands God in this way.

"Oh God! I am the only son of God, who is omnipotent, omniscient, eternal, unique, absolute and infinite." By these words, "only son," you would be qualified to become a messiah for all humanity. What kind of' position would you have if you said you were the only son of God? Because God has a heart of love, you would be the only son of God when you gain that love first. Isn't that so? Suppose there is someone who can touch the core of love which is deep within the Father's mind, and can move God. Who would be that person? [The only son!] From this point of view, Jesus was the one person who was qualified to occupy God's heart completely. Because all people desire God's heart, one cannot teach them the world of God's love unless he has the experience of occupying God's internal heart. Therefore, this is the qualification of the Messiah.

Experience God's Love First

Jesus is God's only son. Furthermore, when we are saved, even though the circumstances are different, we also can become God's children. When a branch is grafted onto a sweet persimmon tree, that branch can become the sweet persimmon tree. After you are saved by Jesus, he does not remain as your Savior, but becomes your brother. Jesus becomes the bridegroom, and you become the bride. This tradition of Jesus started from brotherly love. This is a cosmic declaration. This is not the tradition of brotherhood we have seen in the fallen realm so far, but a new tradition. You are the very people who are doing this. So at this point, we need to implant the new heavenly tradition of brotherhood. This is not merely a theory; we are advancing this historically You must build the new tradition of brotherhood and also the new tradition of husband and wife. By doing so, the tradition of brotherhood is born, and the tradition of bride and bridegroom is born. Then when a couple is able to inherit the tradition of love from God, their children will be entirely loved by God. Since these children are not born within the realm of the fall, but are born within the unfallen realm of God's love, they are not in the position to be claimed by Satan. Therefore, they are sinless. Through this birth of sinless children, Christianity was to have determined the tradition of parent-child relationship.

The time during which this promise was made was the time of the New Testament. The promise of the Old Testament was not fulfilled, therefore, a new promise was given in the New Testament. This was a promise that we shall become true children of God by becoming true brothers and sisters and inheriting true love. And that promise will absolutely be accomplished at the time of the Second Coming. What does Unification theology call this age? It is called the Completed Testament Age.

God does not just make promises. He has advanced the Completed Testament Age in order to fulfill this wonderful promise. So, many children like Jesus should be born, and many brides and grooms who are like Jesus should be born. Many families must emerge with ideal spouses such as Jesus would have been--who can raise perfect children. God's ideal world begins here. But from what point does all of this start? It begins from the individual.

Adam and Eve fell before they reached perfection, being motivated by their hearts to sin. They took a step away from God's direction and His commandment by following the dictates of their hearts while their hearts were still immature. Young people of the Complete Testament Age are not influenced by their surroundings no matter how much it is corrupted by Satan. If they are influenced, then Satan, who is the final master of the corrupted love, will corrupt the heart of all humanity in the world to come. For that purpose, Satan uses his final wisdom.

The communists say, "Sing, dance and enjoy love!" Then, what happens? Destruction. Satan is trying to destroy man by creating this kind of environment.

Therefore, the organization that the communists hate the most is the Unification Church. They tempt people through their propaganda--"sing songs, dance and make love!" But those who do not give in, no matter what they say, are the young people of the Unification Church.

To See God Directly With Your Eyes

You must first of all stand face to face with God and inherit His vertical love. Since God is the God of dual characteristics, He created man because He cannot receive stimulation by being alone. Joy is produced only through reciprocal relationships; therefore, stimulation from outside of God's being is necessary. He needs the stimulating sphere of His objects. And one can receive love from God, who is the highest being, only when he stands in the position to reciprocate. If he does so, he can become a substantiation of God's internal character. When God feels sorrow, man must also feel sorrow. In this way, man and God will be inseparable. These are unchangeable facts, no matter how much you may doubt them. You have been created to be inseparable from God. Therefore, the perfection of the individual means the establishment of the absolute vertical relationship between you and God.

God is invisible. This invisible God created Adam and Eve in order to bring about His substantial image. God exists within the minds of Adam and Eve, and when Adam and Eve become perfect and fully receive God's love, God becomes the internal father and Adam becomes the external father. The external form reflects the internal form. God sees His own form in man. Then God, as the father of humanity, takes the form of Adam. And Eve becomes the mother of humanity. Adam and Eve are God's substantial forms in the universe, and they become parents of humanity and of the created world, which resembles them. Thus, through the form of Adam and Eve, God let people know His existence throughout history. Then there can be no doubt about the existence of God. He is always visible. If the fall had not taken place, God would immediately appear if man called him. If man reaches this level, who could say that God doesn't exist? [No one!] If you show your utmost sincerity, the same sincerity is returned. This is a universal principle. So, who has to prove that your parents are your parents?

Then what God is desiring to do is to substantiate His form in this last stage of the Last Days. He is trying to show Himself again as a perfect man who is completely restored heartistically and vertically. This man we know as the Messiah. In the Completed Testament Age, God manifests Himself to all people in the form of the True Parents, who come in the place of the perfected Adam and perfected Eve.

Therefore, the Unification Church has a power that is greater than any secular power. Through the Unification Church, our members can see the living God directly with their eyes, and experience Him with their senses. Do you understand? How many of you believed in and saw Jesus in the past? A very small percentage. Unless you had faith for 20 or 40 years, you could not see the crucified Jesus. In the Unification Church, however, you can see him if you listen to the Principle with sincerity for one week. What a great difference this is! A cosmic revolution has begun. We could not find a way to see Christ throughout thousands of years of history. But through the Principle, we have discovered a way to experience him within a week. This is truly the great miracle of the Unification movement.

Behind this miracle, there is a 6,000 year period in which God has been advancing human culture. All of the indemnity and sacrifice of 6,000 years is concentrated on this point in time. This fruit of this victorious course is the relationship of the love between parents and child.

Look At the World with the Same Sorrow as God

If you are anxious to see God or to see True Parents in a dream, the only way is to work for God with your whole heart. You must have the type of God-like heart that is willing to shed blood for the sake of all people. You must have such a heart that you would even forget sleeping, and cry with me. This is the closest path to reach God. The teaching of the Unification Church is that we should sacrifice smaller things for God, for humanity and for the greater purpose. God wants to restore the cosmos to His dominion. This is done by the principle of always serving the greatest purpose. Accordingly, the individual lives for the sake of the family, the family for the clan, the clan for the race, the race for the nation, the nation for the world, the world for the cosmos and the cosmos for God. You cannot become a child of God unless you fight for God with the goal of victory for God on the cosmic level by achieving all these standards. You cannot become a child of God unless you have the confidence and desire to work for the sake of God and for the sake of the cosmos. You understand this, don't you? [Yes!] It is not a trivial matter.

Each of you can become a person who has such vertical experiences. In the present situation, when God has not yet established His nation, if you can call upon God and feel the same sorrow He has, and if you can look at Japan and the world with such Godly sorrow, keeping your mission and your commitment to Him, then you are truly a son or daughter of God, even if you are alone.

You should keep your mind occupied with the absolute desire and determination to fulfill God's will. If the providence is prolonged for years, decades, centuries, we cannot imagine how great God's agony would be. We must maintain a course toward victory. If you remain a joyous child, doing your best while sacrificing for God, you can save Japan and dominate this country's spiritual future. You may not get much attention in this world, but when you go to the spiritual world, you will be the one revered by all people as the representative of God. God is expecting you to become this kind of young person. You must set the tradition for the future. God desires that we become such people who can substantiate His ideal in this world. Such people must be the young people of the Unification Church.

Jesus Walked the Way of the Cross with Dignity

In the tradition of the Old Testament Age and the New Testament Age, we must become children who can shed blood, and even die, to console God's heart: In the history of God's providence, who set the tradition to open this path in the world? It was Jesus. At Gethsemane, the reason why he prayed with such agony as to shed blood was to leave God's true tradition on earth. Jesus was the very person who pioneered this path and set this tradition for the first time. Religion is the way by which we inherit the tradition of Jesus correctly and expand it to the public world. Christianity was formed by inheriting the tradition of goodness and by passing on this tradition to future followers.

Christianity teaches a realm of heart, which is also a realm of hope heading toward one goal. In order to enter this one realm, we must go back to God. So we as Unification Church members must just go back to God. We can never understand the realm of Jesus' heart unless we go back to the realm of God's heart. That is also the only way we can ever understand the tradition of Jesus or Christianity, or inherit the tradition of hope for the future. The path that the Unification Church has been walking until now has been to go back to God and to rekindle the spirit of the churches with a new understanding of the reality of God and His providence. Do you understand? [Yes!] First of all, we must establish this vertical relationship and become an ideal man through receiving guidance from God.

Mankind lost three things at the fall. Adam was to be God's son and Eve to be God's daughter. But they lost their childlike heart toward God. And they lost the love they had as brother and sister centered upon God. Eve killed Adam spiritually. Despite the fact that he was her elder brother, Adam was attracted to Eve and could not resist her. They became people of evil, not a brother and sister of goodness. The husband and wife of goodness became the husband and wife of evil through the fall. They lost the realm of God's heart and love in one instant. How can they restore this lost heart? For a man to take responsibility to restore this, he must have the heart of an elder brother. Thus, he must enter into the world of the heart.

In the realm of heart, then, you are children to me. It is through the fall that man lost the three hearts, namely, the heart of brother and sister, the heart of parents, and the heart of children. Accordingly, perfect restoration is impossible unless we heartistically experience these three things and resurrect them.

Saints Should Shed Tears for God

The horizontal restoration of God's heart begins through indemnity. The Unification Church, which was founded for that purpose, can never be understood by merely studying it. People cannot understand why the Unification Church was founded, why we go in crazy directions, and why you members work with one heart. Do you work in accordance with my heart? [Yes!]

Men are in the position of archangels. Therefore, the courageous men of the Unification Church must be able to miss me with tears. Otherwise, they are not the saints of the Unification Church. You must be like a child with tears in your eyes. I ask this not for my sake, but for the sake of God.

I love you, centered upon God's love. You love God, you love me, and you love each other. With this foundation of love, you can love all people of the world.

You should love other members as you love me. My desire is that you love others more than I do. If you do so, you can love each other as brothers and sisters more than your parents love you as their children. If this tradition is spread throughout Japan, this country will never perish, even if God wanted it. Don't be a person whose achievements are on the theoretical level, but rather a person who puts his heart into his work. As a group, you should love each other like brothers, like sisters, like parents. If you are that type of person, even if you tell your friends not to come see you, they will be so eager to see you that they would come anyway. I am like that. My close friends and classmates were all drawn to me. Why did they come? They had no one else from whom they could seek advice. You must inherit the realm of God's heart. You have the theory, and when you practice it, you can become one with God. You must establish such a tradition.

Those brave Unification soldiers who wish to work toward this purpose once again with resolution and who wish to revive this tradition of God among all people, please raise your hands. I believe you.

We are in a hurry. We cannot allow any time for discussion of strategy. We cannot have this luxury. We must go on. I feel the urgency of the heavenly time schedule, and we must meet every phase of this schedule, without failing. Indeed we must declare an hour of emergency.

Since October first of last year, when we launched the Day of Hope tour in New York, seven months have passed. During this seven-month period how much work have we done? How much impact have we created, nationally and internationally? You are the witnesses. If we go on at this pace for three years, what will happen?

The problem is not persecution or external attack. The problem is internal. How strong is our dedication? How strong is our unity? Even though our conviction is strong and we are truly united, if we have no power or strength to fight, we cannot move onto victory. It is my problem and my task to elevate the standard of leadership in each state, so that they will have the strength to generate power and influence throughout their state.

During this tour, I have seen the working conditions, and the accomplishments of the seven IOWC teams. I can recognize those leaders who demonstrate conviction, dedication, and ability to lead the troops successfully.

In July, last year, I assigned leadership to every state, with a certain number of OWC members. But even though we assigned an OWC commander and some members to each state, our original goal has not been accomplished. It has been difficult for you to organize in the way I originally envisioned.

Because of the 21-city Day of Hope tour of 1973, and the 32-city tour of 1974, I know you have many reasons why you could not keep up with your pledges. However, I also see, as I travel to each state, that the commander and the members have not yet reached the point of ultimate, crystal-clear dedication to the goal one bringing of one member per month. That standard has not been a clear goal. You have not even believed that it is a feasible goal.

We need an increased commitment, a realistic vision and a positive attitude in working toward this goal. First of all, your mental attitude is most important. A negative attitude leads you to make up your mind that the goal is impossible before you try. That attitude must be changed. We must think that we are a powerful force who can make the impossible possible.

Then, if we do our best, God will understand and help us. God cannot help us unconditionally, because man disobeyed Him at the very beginning, causing the fall. If God could help unconditionally, that same God would have helped Adam and Eve out of the mud by interfering with their lives.

From the very beginning, the principle of creation was clear. Man has a portion of responsibility, and God cannot interfere with that right. God wants us to emerge as victors by fulfilling our responsibility and freeing ourselves from Satan's accusation.

Many times I perceive a discouraged attitude: "The Principle is the will of God. It is a universal fundamental truth. Why are things so difficult? Why can't people understand, and why doesn't the membership grow faster?" All leaders feel this way at times. Why? Because we have not fulfilled our responsibility as human beings; we have not left the realm of Satan to come to the realm where God can assist us unconditionally. We must secure that standard. Then things will start happening.

God's plan is to bring us into the original ideal of creation, beyond the realm of the fall. We are pioneering a new realm which humanity has never experienced. We are still in the realm of the fall of man. Therefore, the archangel and Adam are still in the same realm or category. The old relationship still exists.

The bondage of sin still exists. So in this realm, unless we rid ourselves of sin and our relationship with the archangel -- unless we leave this realm -- God cannot come to us unconditionally. The archangel subjugated Adam, so through the process of restitution, God is using angels to help Adam (to help us) before He comes to us directly.

We are going to be assisted by the spiritual world first, because it is parallel to the angelic world. However, in order to get this assistance, we must be in a position to separate ourselves from the accusation of Satan. The key lies in how quickly and how absolutely we can separate ourselves from our bond with the satanic world. In order to separate yourself from the bondage of sin, you have to make a condition of indemnity to fulfill your responsibility.

You are not an isolated individual. You are the fruit of the ancestral tree of your thousand-year-old tradition. You are the champion, the fruit of your lineage. You are not only representing yourself, but all of your ancestors. You are the balance sheet of good and evil in you ancestral tree, and unless evil has been extinguished, good cannot come in, even though you, yourself, are very good. We have to get rid of evil by making an indemnity condition. We must separate ourselves from the bondage of our ties to the archangel and the sinful world. There is no other way. Good words are not enough. We must be in a position to sacrifice ourselves. That is the quickest way.

And for what object, what subject, what purpose are you sacrificing? That purpose will determine the magnitude of your indemnity. Even though you do the same actions, the results of these same actions can be magnified, depending on the purpose.

There is a condition of indemnity -- on the individual level, family level, tribal level, national level, and worldwide level. Then on which level are you paying the indemnity? For which level are you sacrificing? That is most important. The very best sacrifice you can pay is for the purpose of the universe, on the worldwide level, on the highest possible level. At that level, you are united with God; then you are truly pursuing the best and quickest way. You are coming out of the age of darkness.

From this principle, Christianity emphasizes being one with Jesus Christ, saying: "Love Jesus Christ more than anybody else. By doing so, you can get rid of all the indemnity at once, because Jesus already set the condition for the universe, for heaven and earth, and for spiritual salvation. Therefore, by uniting with him, you can quickly reach the goal."

In the past, Christianity was emphasizing how you can become one in heart with Jesus Christ. That was the central faith and belief. Your life should be completely parallel with that of Jesus; that would be the secret, to even share the sorrow of Jesus Christ. When he is joyful, you can be joyful; when he is sorrowful, you can share that sorrow. When he is working hard, and when tribulation and suffering come to him, you bear that suffering with him. This type of oneness is the Christian ideal.

Our era is not the New Testament era. This is the Completed Testament era. We must realize what Father's position is. Father has already set the condition for paying the price on the individual level, family level, tribal level, national level, and worldwide level. This particular period is an extraordinary period in the dispensational history. I have now come to America, and am operating on a worldwide level, speaking to the American public.

Our Divine Principle shows clearly the heart of the Father throughout the dispensational history of restoration. Starting from the fall of man, from Adam, we are the only ones who know the dispensational history of God, God's timetable. My job is to comfort the Father's heart, which has been sorrowful throughout history.

I am the one to remedy God's broken heart. And I am the one who proclaims to the world the heart of the Father, which has not been a joyful one, but a suffering one. In order to comfort the Father I must set a better standard than any human being in history, starting from Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, and all the prophets, and including Jesus Christ.

I have paid the price for the past. I have paid the debt of history, in order to bring history up to par with the present. This is what I did first. I have paid the price for the sorrow and heartbreak of the Father. By doing so, I set the condition for the victory of the entire spiritual heaven, so that already victory on that level has been proclaimed. Now, I am dealing with the present time, because the past is all paid. Now I have to deal with the present.

And I see the danger. If this movement falters against the stone wall opposition of the Christian churches of today, if we cannot make headway, then we are very likely to duplicate the same sacrifice that Jesus Christ had paid 2,000 years ago. Throughout my life, the present Christianity has done everything, every cruel thing, against me. Just liquidating the sin, or paying the price through one dramatic act, like being crucified, would be easy; but step by step, bearing the crucifixion every day of one's life -- by surviving and doing it -- is not easy.

So God has to allow the Christian churches and the present world to come with power against us, because 2,000 years ago the condition of physical redemption was not set. So, the physical realm is the satanic realm. They have the power; God cannot take this power away without setting a condition.

It has been my agony, it has been my strategy, and it has been my foremost attention to understand how I must deal with this present world. If the Christian churches only are united and turning against us, then it is a simple problem. But, the problem is not that simple. The deeper problem is that Satan can mobilize the Christian churches, and they can mobilize the government.

Holding the national sovereignty, they can turn the government against us. In Korea, the Christian churches, since their power by themselves is not strong enough, have used cunning to win the hearts of the government and turn the government against us. That has been their tactic. Therefore, I have been very wise in dealing with the Christian churches and the government separately, apart from each other.

On the other side, the Christian churches are in the position of Abel; the government is in a position of Cain. If Cain and Abel are united in a satanic way together, and become one, then they become a formidable alliance and there is no way to break that alliance. So my effort has been to separate the two, and prevent the unity between the satanic Abel and the satanic Cain, that is the Christian churches and the government.

However, in Korea, the battle was an uphill battle all the way. Our church's past history in Korea, step by step, was really bloodshed, hard battle, and continuous persecution. However, in a way, we have been successful in isolating the two. Instead of making them into one combined enemy, we have separated them.

First of all, through our own power we draw the young, conscientious people to our own side. Then, by mobilizing them, we serve the purpose of the government. For example, in Korea we have not only the Christian churches as a threat, but even more formidable is the Communist threat to the nation.

We are playing the major role in resisting this threat by educating the Korean people against Communism, more than any other movement in history. Our movement is sort of like a caretaker of the government. The government was in positions that without us they would become helpless, having no alternatives but to deal with the Communist threat themselves.

We, however, do have a positive solution and the government needed that solution. However, the Christian churches have banded together and protested to the government, saying: "Why are you government people siding so closely with the Unification Church? Why only help them?" The government answer was, "We didn't help them, they helped us and we need them." That was the answer. The government officials knew how hard working and dedicated we are and they saw how cunning and rather unrighteous the Christian churches' protests were.

Even though we received so much persecution and difficulties in Korea and each step was such an uphill battle against a stone wall, we pioneered courageously. In time we laid a spiritual foundation so that we could move out of Korea into the worldwide dispensation.

So Korea was the restoration history for Jesus overcoming opposition. You know, Jesus somewhat failed 2,000 years ago because of the faithlessness of the chosen people of Israel. That particular price, that particular re-enactment or indemnity had to be paid in Korea, and we have done it.

Yes, Jesus Christ went to the cross, and bore the cross on a national level. His own people persecuted him. His own people crucified him and in return, in the Second Coming, the whole nation of Korea was trying to persecute me and trying to nail me down on the cross. In a way they were physically trying to destroy me.

However, I survived that battle -- successfully paying the indemnity; and that particular foundation -- laid in Korea -- laid the foundation for the rest of the world. This is not only for the sake of Korea, but the worldwide dispensation. No matter what American churches are doing against us, I tell you this -- the American churches can never duplicate the persecution that the Korean churches have hurled against me.

I do not have any uncomfortable feelings with the surge of opposition from American churches because I went through every city and already I have won. And I almost feel that in this country I am triumphant in having some opposition finally come. I welcome it in a way, because it will expedite our step forward.

God and the Unification Church, centered upon the True Parents, will become one because of this opposition. In other words, God is in more of a position to help us. In Korea the only ally I had were my ancestors in the spiritual world -- all the physical world was up against us, in those days.

The satanic power is mobilizing the Christian churches to come against us; however, the more we set a condition, the more the spiritual world will come down and help us. The entire spiritual world is on our side. During this 32-city tour I realistically felt so many good spiritual conditions and so much spiritual help coming down.

For example, many people come to Day of Hope lectures only because they see me in visions; they see me in some fantastic vision and spiritually they are guided. We always comforted the Father's heart by winning the victory in Korea, setting the condition, paying the price for the failure of the first Israel. That price was paid. We now go beyond that level, expanding our level of foundation to the worldwide scale.

So, overall in God's dispensation, God is allowing us to move into the second most vital state -- to come out of Korea upon the victorious foundation of paying indemnity for the first Israel's failure -- now we are coming to the second Israel. The battle is now being waged in America. America, American churches, and the American people are in the position of the second Israel, even though it is spiritual.

By fighting this battle and winning we are uniting the separation between the spirit and flesh. In other words, the physical world and spiritual world will be united by setting the victory here in America. In other words, in America, the first Israel which was the physical Israel and the second Israel which was only the spiritual Israel will be united by our victory here in America.

Upon that unity, the victory of unity, God will set the foundation for the new beginning of the glorious third Israel, perfected Israel. So, we are in a new state of comforting the Father's heart. In other words, we are moving into a new era of our movement, by which we are relieving another burden from the heart of the Father.

We have to fight this second most important battle ruthlessly. Upon the victorious foundation of this battle, God can initiate a third Israel which is truly the heaven -- spiritual and physical -- where we can really enjoy our life in true God-initiated happiness, having a true home, true family, true tribe and true nation.

No matter what happens, no matter how difficult this might be, we must win this second most important phase and move up to the third phase. Also, this is the third year. This is the second leg of the most important Day of Hope tour and I knew from the beginning that when I went through this 32-state tour, some opposition would be mounting, even on a national level.

Having started at Portland, Maine, today is the 30th city in two months. I am feeling every moment of the day that this is my cross, my own cross that I am bearing physically. This is the road of the cross. Yes, I witness so much opposition outside and in each city it is intensifying. Actually, I want this, I do want that opposition, and among those ranks of opposition I want to have every nationality represented; the Germans, French, Japanese and all the Italians.

All the nationalities must be represented -- I want it to be that way. By doing so, I am making this opposition a worldwide opposition so that we can make worldwide unity. Then we can win by overcoming this oppositional unity. This oppositional unity is of the world, while we have a dispensational unity of heaven and so we must be superior. If they ruthlessly attack us, we can even further commit ourselves to further victory -- we commit ourselves even double and triple and quadruple. Our battle is not the knife battle or the gun battle or the fist battle. Our battle is that of love. Love is our weapon.

So, when I pass by those people who are up against me, picketing against me and cursing and yelling at me, I smile and I wave to them as though they were a welcoming party, as though their sign was a welcoming sign; not because I like them, but because I am standing on the principle of the battle of love. Now we come to Portland, and this city will consummate the continental United States part of that battle.

On this tour, I felt a danger around me all the time. There are many fanatics, there are many crazy people out there, as you know very well. They could harm me any time they wanted to; I know the possibility but I never fear it and I march through. The more opposition I see the more my heart is truly concentrated upon the will of the Father -- I am so busy comforting him.

I pray to Father, "Father, give me a little more time, give me more time, give me more protection, not because I want to live but because I have a little more of my job to do, for You." Yes, this is a serious road I have walked during the 32-city tour. Outwardly I was so peaceful, to people I appeared to be a very happy man, but inwardly you know how serious I was.

Twenty-four hours, there was no moment without thinking of the will of the Father; even in sleep I have been thinking about Him, thinking about His will, thinking about His work. I saw many visions of things that would happen in the days ahead of us. Many nights in prayer I saw the faces of many people coming to listen to lectures and when I went up to the podium, I saw the same faces coming toward me. I concentrated my heart, pouring out my heart upon them, and that night indeed always turned out to be a great victory; even though there were many rude people who stood up in the audience.

Yes, this is the time I truly experienced the heart of the Father, more deeply than ever. I am truly thankful for this opportunity, to serve and fight His battle in this fashion. But actually, Christianity is not our final enemy. Our ultimate enemy is going to be the ungodly ideology of Communism. I am already over 50 years of age, but I am not worried about the outcome.

I do have a serious problem, though. I spent all 50 years of my life in Korea, dealing with the worst problems in my life; but even a greater magnitude of problems are ahead of me, on the international level. These are the worldwide situations of persecution and the threats of Communism. Coming to America, I do know what the attitude of the Christian churches will be; they will be threatened, they are not sure, they will be insecure.

So, indeed they are going to band together to come up against me. I knew, therefore, that as in Korea, I must isolate in America the satanic Abel from the satanic Cain. So, I am separately establishing good relationships with people on the government level. That is my effort and that is why I do it.

Even though the Christian churches of America have come against us, I have been successful in establishing rapport with people on the governmental level in the United States. As you know, we have been successfully dealing with many Senators and Congressmen and throughout the tour we have received literally hundreds of proclamations from the local leaders. This is very meaningful because this shows we have been successful in keeping the negative churches from influencing the government.

Also, we held Day of Hope banquets everywhere. The reason was to invite the influential people, the civic leaders -- all the influential leaders of the city and states -- so that they will see me in person, so that they will get the impression that Reverend Moon is really leading a dedicated movement. I want to leave that impression.

So, we need time, we must gain time. In the meantime we have to divide the opposition of the negative churches. We must be solidly developing our own power, a power that is good enough to woo any politician in the land. Why did I support President Nixon? This is the reason; we need him for three years. Have faith, because God has a grand strategy. There is a reason that there is so much talk about impeachment and so forth. We want him to win, we want him to remain.

We must gain time. The three years will be good enough for us. In three years we will be an invincible power, so that we can deal with any type of President, any type of Congressman, any type of governor. We need three years. In the meantime we must prepare our ranks. I already declared in the 1972 tour that America's most extraordinary crises would come in 1977 and 1978, because the Communist strategy and Communist infiltration will be rampant then. At that time, they will go all the way, to sweep the land. Before that time, we must prepare our side.

In 1969, when I visited Europe, I made a statement that within three years the European situation would be very, very pessimistic and Communist infiltration would be rampant. Therefore, even our members had to be considering some kind of plan for evacuation, so that we could evacuate a country and still continue to fight. And, at that time, many leaders didn't believe me.

But, you know what happened. In three years, the European situation has become really pessimistic; it is really a dying continent. They are being subjugated day to day by Communism. I have seen many young people, the Jesus freaks, who are coming up against me all the time. Their way of doing things, their methods, their operation is just absolutely similar to the way of Communism. I think we have to know their real essence; there must be some underlying essence we must look into and get into deeper. In other words, we are not fighting for opposition's sake. We are doing our job, proclaiming the truth. Let them oppose us; we must go on our way.

You know, in Japan, many, many seminaries closed their doors. Furthermore, 80 percent of the churches -- Japanese churches -- are controlled in one way or another by the influence of the Communists.

So, for the next three years, unless we develop strong, substantial ranks and strength of our own, America will truly suffer, and the world, as a consequence, will suffer. No matter what, the Communist strategy is ultimately centered upon America, to get America, to bury America. They know that if America is buried, if this one nation is subjugated, then the whole world is theirs. The more I think about it, more than anybody else I think the Communists studied me. Even my own article appeared in Pravda, in Moscow.

In Japan, at the 52nd annual convention of the Communist Party in Japan, their headache was the Federation for Victory over Communism which is our organization. That was their headache, their first headache. So they invited theorists, and Communist scholars from 12 different nations, and organized a committee to deal with or counter our anti-Communist ideology. They came to the conclusion that they could not do it.

And the Communists know that Reverend Moon has already successfully laid the foundation in Korea, and in Japan; now he has moved into America. It is going to be a greater threat to the Communist ranks. So they are thinking of all kinds of strategies of their own to stop Reverend Moon here in America.

American Communists are now not so conspicuous in the front, in public, or anything like that. But they are a moving undercurrent; they are underground. However, our strategy is open strategy. We go all the way in the forefront, openly. And no matter how far advanced the Communists, and their organization, and their strength is, we must be in a position to surpass them.

The life or death battle here in America is how we can bring in more members, so that we can become a substantial organization. This is going to be our life or death struggle. Also, we must realize, since the Communists think of us as their worst enemy, whenever they subjugate a nation they think of the Unification Church as their first target. So it is our determination, our purpose here today, to decide how we can start these three years, in which we can truly demonstrate extraordinary commitment and extraordinary strategy and extraordinary results truly creating our winning ranks and winning formation.

Also, we must strengthen this Federation for Victory Over Communism. The battle against Communist strategy has to be strengthened all over the nation. We must have a dual organization; one is the church organization and the other is the Victory Over Communism organization. In the future, the American leadership has to look up to us for advice. They need us. Sooner or later, they will need our service in this country. So if we truly prepare ourselves to assist the government and help the nation, then we are going to have a tailwind; they will push us all the way.

You can well imagine how much importance I have placed on America, and how much thought I have put into developing our strategy here. One proof: I called all the international leaders to America. They were busy with their own countries, but I asked them to abandon their nations and come to America. In other words, I am sacrificing all other nations for the purpose of victory in America.

American members, when you know my deep, serious feelings, you must doubly move forward to become the forefront of the entire movement. But now there is shame in our movement: in the last several months we have been having difficulty in Upper Marlboro, with dissension and a lack of unity in the American membership. We do not fear this dissension but this is one disgraceful spot in the American movement. I am not going to be influenced by those actions. You know me better. However, it is a shame for the American movement.

Nobody truly knows me in depth. Nobody truly knows my background, my depth. This little surface you can see with your eyes and with your ears, you can hear; but this doesn't even scratch the surface of me, my true self. I will predict what will happen. Those people who were the victims of Upper Marlboro will later protest to their own leader, saying, "Because of you, my heaven was stopped. Because of you, my life was ruined. You evildoers!" The time will come when they will fight among themselves, even killing each other.

So I want you to know, we are in a sacred mission that will liberate the heart of the Father, the grief of the Father. We are the liberation army. Liberating whom? We are liberating God, His heart, His burdened sorrowful heart-the historical God, and the God of the present.

This next three years will be D-Day, like the Normandy landing operation. God has been preparing for 6,000 years, waiting for this one showdown, and we are making this one showdown, so D-Day is at hand. One hour is the equivalent of a thousand years of history. We must land that frontline soldier in this most divine battle of all.

While we are succeeding, the Communist Party, even though it has grown into a mammoth figure, subjugating even one third of the world population, is internally divided. They will have their own troubles, inside. Isn't it ironic that the two most formidable Communist nations are declaring war on each other?

Soviet Russia fears Red China most and Red China fears Soviet Russia most; they are mobilizing their divisions and armies on the Asian front and not on the European side. The American policy of detente with the Communist nations -- Soviet Russia and Red China -- is okay. However, it is only okay as long as we have something solid inside. If we don't have a solid inside then just going out and waving a white flag, calling it detente, is really just waving the white flag in surrender.

The Communists, as I said, have their own trouble. Whenever this division between China and Soviet Russia gets more severe, then they will have more and more trouble within themselves. By the same token, here in the free world, Cain and Abel must be united. If we fail to unite, we also will be divided.

Once before, the entire good land of America was subjected to waves of violence, and burnings and killings; those ages were lawless times. Before we come again to that time, we must be ready. I do know public opinion and people are moving away from the President of the United States and the people don't respect the President any more.

But if the President of the United States gets real tough, then there might well be some very grave problem in this country. It is ironic; America is not fighting against her evils, but Reverend Moon comes from outside the country, and mobilizes many young people from other parts of the world in order to help this country. Isn't it ironic? Therefore, we are so strong, so powerful; in other words, every politician in America has to think twice about Reverend Moon.

Right now our foremost problem is the difficulty with the Immigration Department. Unless we can successfully obtain legitimate residency for our foreign members, our movement will suffer a setback. We cannot fail to do this. If we do fail, my entire strategy will be totally altered, because all the foreign members here will have to leave.

In the meantime, the enemy ranks, the existing negative churches, will take that opportunity to counter-attack us. Therefore, by all means, at any cost, we must win the immigration battle. Indeed, we can make this a great battle for us. We can say, "We came to love America, to help the American people. Americans themselves are fighting, in trouble. It is beyond the hands of American solution. Now, America isn't even giving us room to stay." Yes, by all means, we must win this battle.

So you know the urgency; I am sure you know. For the next three years, I want each of you to become a great leader-great, dedicated, loyal, capable leader--so that we shall be ready for the great battle that is coming. That is the showdown against the ungodly ideology, Communism. Upon the successful victory here in America we will branch our divine battle, carrying it over to Europe.

I am even planning to receive some governmental officials when we send thousands of our people overseas. This will make it feasible to truly restore the world. I would like to have three major international mobile teams -- one for the continent of Asia, one for the continent of America, one for Europe. If they can move from one country to another, each team moving twelve times during the year, they can visit literally 36 nations in one year. When the mobile team visits one nation, we will completely set the foundation for that particular country.

Each member must find one new member every month - one new member per member per month. Do not think that this is an impossible task. Let's have a mental revolution: think it is possible -- think it is scientifically possible. I will move this movement forward until we realize that goal. In seven years, each member must make 84 new members. In other words, you must set the foundation for Jesus' disciples, winning 12 people each year for seven years.

I am going to strengthen our training program in Belvedere. The training program in Belvedere will be strengthened, more scientifically organized, and truly then I will make a place where leaders can be created. There is a witnessing period in the New York church which is part of the training program. Each trainee must make three new members. There was an initial reaction that it is too difficult or even impossible. "Make it possible," I said.

So, all of you are the leaders who move America. Each one of you must elevate yourself beyond any satanic elements, so that you can be in a free position, upon which God can truly pour out His miracles. Make yourself a receiving base. In this one battle, you are making a victory for the past, present, and future. In one battle, you are winning all this with eternal consequences.

No matter how good you are, no matter how hard you try, with your own power it is impossible. Your setting the condition by yourself is never good enough to be victorious. You must draw God's power. With your power alone you can never make it. You must draw power by being grafted into the source of power, the source of life, so that you utilize that limitless power.

I want you to accomplish your mission. Don't rely on your own power. Unless you become one with the True Parents, divine power will not flow into you. So this is the one basic and fundamental condition: you must become one with me; in other words, you are a wild olive tree, and True Parents are the true olive tree. So you must be grafted into them, and then day in and day out you think together -- of sorrow, of joy, whatever.

Think together-- always one in heart, one in mind, and one in action. That is the only way you can be grafted into the True Parents. I will let you know when you are ready to go beyond the boundary of your satanic elements. When you are ready, then you can stay with me, day and night. You must almost become a crazy man, crazy woman, just wanting to see the True Parents.

Between the True Parents and each one of us, there is a barrier. So, unless you truly work hard to unite yourselves into the tree of the True Parents, you will never make it. Unless you pay the very minimum that I ask you to do, you cannot close this gap, you cannot go over this gap, and you cannot truly come with me.

In your dwelling, in your work, you have two additional members always with you; these are the True Parents. You must live with me spiritually all the time -- while you are eating, while you are sleeping, while you are in the bathroom, while you are taking a bath, taking a rest, even in dreams you can be sitting with me and discussing with me. The grafting process is such that your branches have to be taken off and connected to the root of the truth, the true root. That's the only way. This is the secret of our movement. Whoever has that basic, fundamental attitude and that spiritual power will perform miracles.

And when you are proclaiming the truth of the Divine Principle, you must proclaim the person of the True Parent as the historical warrior of God. The Divine Principle is that way. When you teach the Divine Principle, that is the hour of declaration. This is the final declaration under the sun, the declaration of the Kingdom of God, the coming of the True Parents.

You must become one, united in one knowledge, united in one energy, and ultimately united in one heart. Then you must become a totally selfless person, making yourself a living sacrifice. Then power, limitless power, will flow into you. You are no longer sagging without the power, sagging without the energy. You must truly feel that, "I am a living sacrifice; I am just totally nothing," and "There is no me, no myself."

When you have that frame of mind, then whatever you do, wherever you go, you will draw God's power. Having this, when you go up to the podium to preach the Principle, you will know what kind of spiritual condition you are going to get in that particular meeting. Are you experiencing that level? We are the priests. If we cannot fulfill the role of the priest, then the price and punishment is even greater. In ancient times, in Biblical history, when the consecrated priest unlawfully stepped into the temple, he was struck right there.

Wherever you go, you yourself are not going; rather, the ambassador of the True Parents, the representative of the True Parents, is going; so you are your body, but your mind is my mind. You must go everywhere representing me.

Each meeting I reiterated that you must be successful in gaining one member every month. I said this over and over. How many of you truly felt that this was a nail in your heart, and your heart was truly broken when you could not fulfill that goal? How much suffering can you feel in your heart? This entire world and universe is depending upon us. When you see that, this suffering you feel  is the very bare minimum that we can do.

Now today you learned the right mental attitude; the attitude is the most important thing; you know what frame of mind you should have and you must have in order to be successful in your mission. Do you understand? (Yes!) In three years we must have 30,000 young soldiers, 30,000 members who can literally defend this country of America.

We cannot be universally victorious unless we are successful in these three years, getting 30,000 members. If at the end of the three years, we can not fulfill this goal, we must be determined that, "I will literally sacrifice myself. I will just plunge into the Atlantic Ocean and end it." That is the kind of desperate attitude and commitment we need.

However, it is possible. Indeed, you can truly create the miracle and have the impossible miracle come to you as a reality. This Day of Hope tour of 1974 is a miracle. You know, we didn't start with a bunch of money in the bank. When outside people look at our Day of Hope tour, they must consider that at least $200,000 is needed in each city. They think,' 'Reverend Moon comes to each city. He is spending $200,000.''

In their terms, their calculations make sense. They figure, "These people cannot do this thing without having comfortable sleeping quarters and allowance money for their cocktails in the evening, and some tobacco, and some special expenses." They figure this way: "Those people must be paid at least $700 a month. Therefore, it takes about $50,000 just to pay 70 people.''' 'The living expenses, and meals, and lodging, and incidentals together with some drinking and beer, and so forth, must require $100,000 just for the manpower."

By our commander's estimate, it costs us $ 1.50 per person per day for housing. But outside people figure $35.00 per night for housing. But they said that even for $200,000 they cannot get people who can work like us. They just simply cannot get the manpower. When the press, the business, the social leaders and the civic leaders see the magnitude of our movement, the first thing they ask is,' 'Where is Reverend Moon's gold mine?"

This is extraordinary. Never in the history of America, probably never in the history of any nation, has any person or group moved in a whirlwind like this for seven months without ceasing. And, I am sure that I am absolutely setting a new record here in America. So this is one miracle you have created.

I talked to the international commanders, and said, "When you visit the state, you must not leave the burden behind." That was my absolute policy. If you set that tradition, then the American movement will be absolutely bless-able. And, this has been primarily organized by the outside foreign members, coming from all different nations, facing a strange land, without knowing the language, with a different cultural background, but they created such a tradition.

Then in the future when the American movement grows, each state will have a mobile team; and later we will go around to each county, doing the same thing, leaving no burden behind. In the meantime, that county is being blessed. When you bring this down to each cell of America, America will be restored in no time.

Before our enemy organizes their ranks, they take a little time. But we won't take any time. So this is the new beginning; we are marking a new beginning for the new campaign. Do you understand? (Yes!)

If I continue after even three years' time, when this time is over, then really something will happen. Now, all the opposition is coming, because Reverend Sun Myung Moon is in the forefront. Therefore, after three years, I will stay behind; I will let you be in the forefront. So if I don't show up, the picketers won't have too much interest in come picketing again.

So this is what I have done: I merely set the pattern. I am not going to finish the job; you are. I want you to do just like me, and even more. Those who can really constantly do that job like me, raise your hands.

You know, I analyzed many people; and the psychologists, the specialists, analyzed and reasoned why the existing churches are opposing us. It is a simple reason: they are threatened by us. They feel fear. And after the 32-city tour is over, then we have the greatest thing, the finale of 1974; the mammoth 8-city tour will be coming in September.

I would like to have this be a really fantastic, spectacular victory here in America, so that all the existing churches who are opposing us will be absolutely flabbergasted. Then, their bones will no longer have enough strength to sustain their body, and so they will collapse.

I heard that Billy Graham's association is spending about $20,000,000 a year. But during the year, how many crusades are they organizing? We must far exceed their record and the pattern set by those existing organizations.

I believe in the power of God. I believe in the formidable power of mass communication. Our strategy must be based on a solid, scientific, and very sound base. We will never fail that way. I don't worry about any other cities for this finale, the 8-city tour, but I will concentrate my effort in New York, on Madison Square Garden. So this is our time now to discuss how we can make this New York crusade a spectacular success.

Those who think that we must make that Madison Square Garden an absolute success, raise your hands. Those who are confident that we can do it, raise your hands. I wished that things were that easy -- just raising your hands. How many people should be mobilized for the New York campaign? I mobilized 380 to 400 members last year, October 1, for the Carnegie Hall crusade.

In three days, we got an average of 1,200 people per night. So, one member actually brought in about three persons every night. We must bring 25,000 to Madison Square Garden. Then how many people shall be mobilized? How many members could do that job? Going by the same ratio as last year, we will need 8,000 members in New York. Do we have that 8,000? Since we don't have 8,000 working members, shall we make up dummy members and let them sit on the chairs? We cannot do that. I will tell you why.

In my 50 years of battle for heaven, the Day of Hope tour from 1972 to 1974 is my first public appearance. The eight cities are my culmination. In the sight of heaven, we cannot allow this eight-city tour to have empty seats, because then we simply could not face God.

After the victory of this eight-city tour and the culmination of 1974, we are going to have one important monument. That monument will become a priceless monument. Even with the entire wealth of the United States, you could not buy that monument in the future.

When I went to Jerusalem, I went into a museum. The museum director told me that if we had one chopstick, or a fork -- whatever Jesus himself used -- one chopstick, one little bit of any thing, then if those items were available, even the entire wealth of the United States could not buy Jesus chopstick. Can you understand such a mentality? Just one chopstick, which Jesus Christ used, now has the priceless spiritual value and truly nothing can buy it.

So we are going to have a monument, but we will not have a monument unless we make this a great success. Are you still iron-faced enough to say, "Let's have a monument," even with empty seats all over? This time, therefore, it is a life or death struggle. We will truly put our entire selves into it, and we can do it.

Our monument will carry the history of how the campaign was consummated; and each one's record and each one's role shall be recorded in the monument. Later on, when your descendants, your sons and grandchildren from all over the world, come to America, they will visit the monument, and the first thing they will look for will be their grandfather's name or grandmother's name.

When they find it, they will say, "This is my grandfather; this is my grandmother." Then they will turn around and take a picture. Each mobile unit commander's contribution will be recorded. You don't want to be the very worst, do you? You want to be the top, don't you? Actually, in a way, we have too many people to make this thing a success.

We don't need this many people, if the persons who come to that work truly tighten their belts and are truly dedicated, 100 percent, to that goal. Then, I know it can be done. But, we need a large group, 8,000 people to do the job. Since we don't have 8,000 people, at a minimum we must mobilize 4,000 people.

The 4,000 can work doubly hard, so that 8,000 people's roles can be accomplished. We shall really become crazy people in order to make this job a success. As our slogan, let's really be crazy, crazy about this job. Let's really push ourselves to the utmost.

If we apply ourselves that far and still don't meet the goal, then still shouldn't be ashamed. In that case, do not be ashamed in the sight of God. You can still have your chin up in the sight of God: "Father, you know we have done the best." Then God will provide another opportunity. Truly He Himself will bring down the miracle, to show us He is in the position to comfort you then. Total concentration is required, including everything -- your ears and your organs, eyes, and your 24-hour thinking. Let us develop this total concentration. I want you to know why we must make this an absolute success.

I want you to know how privileged you are. In this particular time you were born, you were chosen so that you can sweat together with the True Parents, and so you can work and battle together. You are to become a core soldier of the True Parents. This particular position cannot be bought with money, in the past or in the future.

There is only one time in history that you can do this, and this is your time. Your whole body, every cell of your body, every movement, every facial motion, even every piece of hair, every ounce of energy, must be directed to this one point. Those who have developed that attitude, to live or die, must make it a victory. Let us once again raise hands. Thank you.

The current members in the states and the current IOWC members are not enough to meet that goal. We need a new posture, a new mobilization plan and a new scheme to meet that goal. We must take a hard look to determine which way we can move. New organization is necessary. Therefore, I am going to divide the United States, 50 states, into ten different regions.

I am going to get up the regional command. Do you understand? (Yes!) The commanders who are assigned to one particular region will be the representatives of the True Parents, and they are going to have total authority over the five or six states. Also, they are the sole responsible parties to the True Parents.

The channel of command must be absolutely strengthened and demonstrated; this is an inward posture. Then outwardly, we can truly show our physical accomplishment; in that way we shall prosper in the next few months, making our organization the most prosperous one.

At the end of the 8-city tour of 1974, outside people will evaluate: "I am sure Reverend Moon's people spent many millions of dollars in these eight cities. They poured the money like water." I am sure; let them say that. That is the measure of success. When we come up with the combined success of the eight cities, people will say, "Well, you just cannot touch that organization any more. Only a Billy Graham-type of association could have organized such a thing. But these people -- a year ago they were nothing. Now they are so strong, it is invincible. You simply just don't touch those people.''

Then we will find a very typical unrighteous person. We will mobilize our entire attack toward one goal, toward one particular vicious person -- either a religious leader, or a political leader, or whatever. And, we knock him out, expose what he stands for, and show the entire nation that we are for righteousness, and we could do it. I don't want anybody to take us lightly; let them take us seriously.

Yes, we can make ourselves really invincible people. But our people are for righteousness, and I want to have that righteous image spread. In order to do that, we must make this finale; the Day of Hope tour must be successful. Also, we are going to have a lot of spectators for our eight-city tour. We are active; they will watch. The White House will watch. Senators will watch. Congressmen will watch. All the clergymen, and Billy Graham, and all the evangelists will watch.

This eight-city tour is one Olympics which comes every 6,000 years. I seriously look at it that way. This is one battle God has been waiting for 6,000 years. Look at that. That victory is not only America's victory. That victory will bring power to Japan, power to Korea -- all over the world -- Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

In a little over one year, actually one year and one month's time, Reverend Moon, starting from scratch, has emerged as a formidable entity worldwide. But it is not for my sake. That's how we can bring the power of God down to this earth. Let them feel that they cannot take us lightly. So all leaders, when you go back to your centers, make a big sign, put it on all the four walls in your rooms, saying: "Father, let me be crazy, become a crazy man for Father's mission -- crazy." And it should also say "One new person for one month." "Crazy man for Father's mission" and "One person for one month." That is our slogan. It is possible.

This time, we are going to make our International One World Crusade teams into ten, increasing them to ten different teams with 700 members. We have only four months before September begins. One team with 70 members can bring in, if you go by this criterion, 280 members by September; that is, 70 members each month for four months, which is 280.

If the IOWCs can do this much, and we certainly can, the state leaders can do equally well. This is like a chain reaction, so that new people coming in are left to be trained in the states. Let us earnestly look at that possibility, and let us tackle it.

Each member will be assigned at least 120 homes, which he is to visit. Those who are fulfilling those particular instructions, please raise your hands. All other states, everybody now, when you go back, let's assign areas of responsibility to each member. Whatever I say, do it. Now, I have been saying that for a long, long time. So this tradition has to be strengthened. We must comply with instructions. Let us set the tradition, the really absolute tradition.

In Madison Square Garden the seating areas will be allocated to each 10WC and to each state. Each 10WC is responsible for 2,500 seats. Can you understand? Can you follow me? (Yes!) The first thing we will begin with is prayer; prayer is the beginning of our campaign. I want you to be in a position of welcoming being pushed.

Leaders are the pushers. State leaders are pushed by the 10WC, and you are willing to be pushed. Those who truly are pushing champions will be good leaders. For the sake of the goal, you have to do it. Do you welcome that? (Yes.) Those who welcome being pushed, raise your hands. I trust you.
