Honorable and beloved brethren and world members of the Unification Church from sixty countries: This May 16th Square is a historical place. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for attending the World Rally for Korean Freedom to begin a new history at this historic plaza today.

The significance of the World Rally for Korean Freedom

Today, June 7, 1975, is the day of a new historical declaration both for me and for God. Already, at this very plaza, you have sent up a great roar shaking heaven and earth, denouncing Kim Il Sung for taking advantage of the situation in Indochina and trying to invade the south. There have already been many rallies for total unity and national security. However, this World Rally for Korean Freedom is a most unique and historic rally in two senses.

First, today's rally is the only one that has denounced Kim Il Sung, not only in the name of the Korean people and all of humanity, but also in the name of God. Second, this rally is on a global scale, for the Korean people are not the only ones who have gathered here to resolve to defend Korean freedom. Our rally includes some one thousand representatives from sixty countries, people of different languages and cultures who have gathered here to protect freedom in Korea and around the world. This is a global rally to show the world the resolve of free people to protect the freedom of Korea.

The domestic purpose of this rally is to encourage unity among our people in the face of the national crisis brought about by the fall of Vietnam and Cambodia to communism. Its global purpose is to show the people of the world the direction and determination that are needed this time. This rally is significant in that it will warn Kim Il Sung against any rash action, miscalculation or provocation that would lead to war, as his actions on June 25 in 1950 led to the Korean War.

Communism is the enemy of humanity but first and foremost it is the enemy of God

Ladies and gentlemen, what is communism? We know very well that communist rule, which began with the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, has engulfed more than half the world in the last half century, and that it carries out ruthless and savage acts against humanity. Communism is a dreadful, satanic ideology that results in horribly criminal and destructive acts. We Korean people, who have experienced the savage acts of communism, know the criminal behavior of the communists better than any other people in the world. We have suffered greatly because of communism. At this very moment in North Korea, our fourteen million brethren are still the victims of communism. However, the criminal acts of communism do not stop there.

Today we know the reason we have to oppose communism and annihilate it from the face of the earth. Communism is not only the enemy of human beings; more significantly it is the enemy of God. More than an ideological system of politics and economics, it is a pseudo-religion based on atheism.

Communism completely controls the individual's thinking, acting and way of life. This is an abuse of the unique power that only a religion can have. Communism is a false religion that insists there is no God. Moreover, the ideology itself occupies the place of God in the person's thinking, acting and way of life, turning human beings into slaves and machines. Because communism opposes God, there is no justifying it. It is a satanic religion that seeks to annihilate God from the face of the earth.

Were communism to win victory on the earth, it would be the complete defeat of God. Before it is the defeat of democracy and the free world, it is God's defeat. Therefore communism is God's enemy even before it is the enemy of humankind. However, the omniscient and omnipotent God cannot be defeated. God will not simply sit back and watch communism gain victory over the whole world.

Therefore, through today's rally we realize that the Unification Church and other virtuous religions that teach faith in God will surely win victory over communism, the Satanic religion that denies God. I sincerely declare that the Unification Church, which calls God our Father, joining with other people of faith and ethics, will defeat communism, God's mortal enemy. Therefore we must realize that all religious people, especially Unification Church members, are God's warriors, called to the frontline to win victory over communism. They are the vanguard and flag bearers in the battle between God and Satan.

God's fight to overthrow communism

We can never defeat communism if we depend upon weapons. This is because no weapons, not even an atomic bomb, can destroy stubborn human belief. Rather, it is through faith and its teaching that we can defeat falsehood. The force that will win victory over communism, the false ideology, is a spiritual belief and its teachings of a higher dimension.

Today we must increase our national power. We must equip our armed forces and fortify our fines of defense. However, what is more important is to be armed with truth. That is to say, we need to arm our spirits with faith and its teachings. We must arm our understanding with the truth that there is a God, and we must arm our spirits with faith and the resolution to fight at the cost of our lives to fulfill God's Will. We can win victory over the communists' false faith and ideology only through true faith and true teachings.

The completely false ideology will only fall before the true teaching, which clearly shows that God actually exists. When we bring the fight of truth to shine upon communism, its real identity will appear and its false foundation will shatter. This is the ultimate task for Unification Church members and all religious people. This is the way to win victory over communism and root it out completely.

Today two ideologies are facing each other. One claims there is a God, and the other claims there is no God. One world is centered on material, and the other world is centered on spirit. The world that believes there is a God is on God's side, and the world that believes there is no God is on Satan's side. When these two worlds clash, the outcome will prove the existence of God. Therefore the fight to defeat communism is the fight for God.

Now these two world powers are opposing each other here in Korea. Korea is the final battlefield of these two opposing global ideologies. Protecting Korean freedom is not only for the sake of Korea; it is for the sake of the whole free world. It is for the defense of eternal freedom and for God's final victory. This is the reason all freedom-loving people of the world need to rise up and defend Korean freedom.

The people of the free world say the problem of Korean freedom is Korea's affair. But Korea's problem directly affects the free world's existence. The free world's security is a function of the security of God. Therefore, in the Korean War, God sent soldiers from sixteen countries who shed their precious blood to protect freedom in Korea. If North Korea invades the South again, passionate young people from sixty different countries will defend this country to the last, at the cost of their lives.

Let us overthrow communism in the name of God

Today the worldwide membership of the Unification Church from sixty countries has taken a stand and united in the name of God with all people of the world, to carry out His Will in this meaningful place. The Unification Church is a flag bearer and bridgehead in the battle against communism, standing in the frontline of the free world in the belief that communism is the last enemy of God. This religion, which manifests God clearly, provides the truth, faith and teaching that can overcome communism.

The aim of all people of faith in Korea must be to free the city of Pyongyang. The North Korean people, who are enslaved by communism, are waiting for God to liberate them. Kim Il Sung and his followers dug underground tunnels for the purpose of invading the South. We people of faith, with our higher perspective, need to build a bridge to Pyongyang that brings freedom and unity, and have the courage to liberate our brethren with the same love and heart.

We have to pray, and also fight, in order to ignite a heavenly explosion of truth and love in the center of the city of Pyongyang. Fourteen million North Korean brethren are waiting for God's hand. Our hands, these hands, must be the very hands of God.

In the Old Testament, Goliath stood imposingly, nine feet tall and armed with a spear, while before him stood the boy David with only a stone in his hand. Today we need to hear David's battle cry. He did not cry, "You, my enemy, receive my stone!" or "Though I am very small, I am very strong. Come and fight with me!" David cried, "You come to me with sword and spear and javelin; but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied." (1 Sam. 17:45) David defeated the giant Goliath with God's power. We must oppose Kim Il Sung, defeat Mao Zedong, and bring an end to the Soviet Union in the name of God. We can gain victory only through faith. Let us completely and bravely fortify our line of defense. Let us fight to the last at the cost of our lives in the holy battle for God. The final victory will be ours. God is on our side.

Communist strategy disguised as a peace offensive

Ladies and gentlemen, today we must know the strategy of communism. I who stand here know communism better than any other person. After Korea's liberation from Japan, when I was in North Korea doing missionary work, I faced death many times. The communists considered me their enemy, captured me and imprisoned me in Hungnam Prison in 1948. This compulsory labor prison was actually a death camp, where political and religious prisoners died sooner or later. I spent nearly three years in this prison, and was finally liberated by United Nations forces sent by God in 1950. I have experienced deeply the reality of communism. I know too well its strategy and tactics.

In 1930, a key staff member of the Central Committee of the Soviet Communist Party, Dimitry Manuilsky, speaking to core partisans at the Lenin School of Political Warfare, described the strategy of communism as follows: "Communism cannot coexist with capitalism. It is too early to attack; our time will come in twenty or thirty years. We can gain victory only through surprise attack. Let the capitalist world eat well and sleep well, by all means. The best way to do this is to initiate an absolute peace policy. Knowing nothing, they will enjoy peace and will respond to peace negotiations. In this way the capitalist countries will stupidly cooperate in digging a trap for themselves. We pretend to be their friends and gain time. And while they are relaxing we will deliver a decisive iron fist."

This was the very strategy of the Soviet Union written by Lenin; this was the very strategy of Mao Zedong to govern the mainland of China; this was the very strategy of the North Vietnamese to control Vietnam, and they all succeeded. And this was the very strategy of Kim Il Sung when he was looking for the chance to invade the South. However, we will never be deceived by this strategy again. And we will never again tempt Kim Il Sung to miscalculate. Today let us show Kim Il Sung our capability.

Unificationists will defend Korea, the homeland of their faith

Our fifty million fellow countrymen, who love our homeland, are willing to defend this country at the cost of their lives. We will never allow communism to set foot in our territory. We have powerful allies. The United States is a powerful ally, and Japan is a powerful ally. Heaven helps those who help themselves. If we denounce Kim Il Sung in the name of God, and if we defend this country in the name of God, our country will never become another Vietnam.

However, ladies and gentlemen, that is not all! Kim Il Sung must know about the forces present at this World Rally for Korean Freedom on the May 16th Square. There is another very strong ally that Korea and the Korean people need to know about. It is the worldwide members of the Unification Church, who believe that Korea is their religious homeland. They are absolute anti-communists who love Korea completely. How much do they love Korea? According to their belief, Korea is their religious homeland and their holy land. To a faithful believer, an invasion of this holy land is an invasion of his or her own home, his or her own body. This means that the worldwide members of the Unification Church love Korea as they do their own bodies. Accordingly, the worldwide members of the Unification Church take it as their duty to protect Korea, their religious homeland.

Ladies and gentlemen, some one thousand representatives from sixty countries are gathered here. They are intimate friends of Korea who firmly believe in this land and are ready to protect and defend it with their lives. These people gathered in this historical plaza believe it is God's will that they protect their religious homeland to the end. If North Korea provokes a war against the South Korean people, they are resolved to organize a campaign for world unity and participate in the war as a volunteer army to defend both Korea and the free world.

Korea is a nation God loves

Until the Eastern Sea runs dry, the white-topped mountain falls, God will guide and shield our country, for eternity." Since our liberation from Japan, we have been singing this as our national anthem. We have learned that this national anthem is God's revelation to the Korean people. God revealed that through His guidance and protection our country would stand for eternity.

God truly loves the Republic of Korea. Since our forefather Tangun founded the Korean nation, we went through many hard times due to our location between larger nations. Yet, we never invaded a foreign country. God helped us to steadfastly keep t e traditions of our people. It was God who brought liberation to our country on August 15, 1945. It was God who mobilized sixteen nations to protect this country during the Korean War; otherwise it would have fallen like South Vietnam. It was God who set up a powerful new leader, Korea’s current president, and a new order in our society in 1961, when this country was confused and facing a crisis brought on by communist infiltration from

God is helping us gain victory on the final battlefield between God and Satan. Just as in the First and Second World Wars, it involves many nations: North Korea, the People's Republic of China, the Soviet Union, the Republic of Korea, Japan and the United States. With this special favor and protection from God, let us be courageous and stand up without hesitation.

The Korean Peninsula is the region where human civilization is brought to fruition

God loves Korea so much; He intends to establish a global civilization of unity starting in this country. According to God's providence, human civilization has advanced around the world toward an ever-higher dimension, and now it is going to bear fruit in Korea.

Ancient civilization began on a continent beside the Nile River; then it moved to the peninsulas of Greece and then Italy, where the Mediterranean civilization developed. The center of civilization then moved from those peninsulas to the island of Great Britain, and the Atlantic civilization flourished. The island civilization of Great Britain crossed the Atlantic Ocean, landed on the American continent and crossed it to spawn the Pacific civilization, leading to the miracle of modern civilization. However, the flow of human history did not stop there. Civilization crossed the Pacific Ocean and formed a new island civilization in Japan that, in its full bloom, corresponds to Great Britain. It will next move to the Korean Peninsula to form a united civilization corresponding to that of the Roman Empire.

The Republic of Korea is God's beloved land in the new era, and the Korean people are the ones He has chosen. Korea is the cradle of the new civilization that God desires. Therefore Korea is the country where God will bring His providential work to culmination in the unity of world civilization. This should be the pride of the Korean people, whom God loves.

Unificationism is the teaching that can lead to united world

To bear a wonderful child a mother will unavoidably endure pain. Korea is now suffering such pain through our present-day trials. God is testing our ability, bravery, and qualifications through these trials, and through this pain He is going to bring us the glory of a great son. Therefore each of the great powers on Satan's side invaded this country one after another.

We can overcome these trials with God's love and with faith and hope. By gaining victory over communism in spite of all difficulties, Korea will be able to take a leading role in bringing about a united world, which is God's Will. In other words, Korea is the flag bearer for the whole world.

It is absolutely impossible to do this without the true thought and teachings of the Unification Church. These are: the Divine Principle, which was revealed in Korea in order to bring together all religions, the ideology of Victory over Communism, and Unification Thought. All religions that accept God as their Father need to unite to face the communists who deny God. However, it is with truth and love that we will defeat them. We must help them recognize their errors, and finally we must embrace them as our brothers and sisters. The ideology of Victory over Communism, based on this principle, analyzes all philosophies and ideologies and enables us to unite with God as our center. This principle, ideology and thought arose in Korea. They constitute Godism.

We will govern the country by consulting with God and centering on God. There will not be a party in power and a party out of power. The time has come when all religious and conscientious people need to unite with our government to defeat communism with Godism, and unite our territory and people. That time is now.

Korea, the light of the East

Joy comes after pain, and the new way comes by way of difficulties. When the time comes, let us display the full potential of the Korean people who believe in God.

The famous Indian poet Tagore sang about Korea as follows:

In the golden age of Asia Korea was one of its lamp-bearers
That lamp is waiting to be lighted once again for the illumination of the East
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls
Where words spring up from the depth of truth Where tireless striving stretches its arms toward perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way in the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

My beloved brethren! Korea will be a bright light in the Orient illuminating the whole world in the near future. The day will surely come when God governs Korea, and all the people of the world will view Korea as their homeland, just as the poet Tagore predicted. That time is at hand.

A unified world of peace in the name of God

Ladies and gentlemen, Unification Church members from 120 countries, who regard Korea as their religious homeland and one another as brothers and sisters beyond language and culture, are united. They will march together to defeat Kim Il Sung, God's enemy, and Satanic communism.

My beloved brothers and sisters of Korea! The present task, more than anything else, is to perceive that communism is the enemy of God before it is the enemy of humankind. So today we denounce Kim Il Sung in the name of God. I clearly declare that God will not allow Kim Il Sung to invade the South.

Let us fight at the risk of our lives to defeat Kim Il Sung and communist countries in the name of the free world and Korea! Let us fight to the last! Let us fight until we win! God is with the Republic of Korea; it is under God's protection!

My beloved Korean brethren! We have nothing to fear. Be strong, be courageous, be totally united, and march on in the name of God. Until we restore North Korea into the land of God, and until we reclaim the brothers and sisters of our own blood, let us fight at the cost of our lives.

Let all democratic countries in the world completely liberate the communist countries from Satan and accomplish the unity of the free world in the name of God. Since God is on our side, victory will surely be ours.

Be strongly united in the name of God. Let us rise up! Let us march on together! Let us go forward together!

The original homeland that we must seek

You may not know of the reality of the spirit world, but I enjoy the special benefit from God of having a clear insight into that unknown world.

Digging into the root of that world, I found its principles to be quite simple. In the spirit world only those who lived altruistically in line with God's universal principles can enter the higher realms. The world structured along those lines is the ideal heavenly kingdom.

That place is the original homeland that humankind must seek. Today, although we are exiles from our original homeland and live a fallen life, we are destined to return there. God had to create a path for this in the course of history because we could not do so by our own efforts.

This is why God raised up many religions according to the cultural background, customs and traditions of certain peoples, and has thus guided them. Religions were established as the training grounds for guiding people in that way. They are the training grounds to cultivate the people who are qualified to return to the original homeland. God is leading humanity [us] toward a unified world of religion that can progress upward onto higher ground according to the cultural backgrounds of east and west and all corners of the world.

What does religion which guides people to the original homeland, centrally teach? It is to live for the sake of others. As highly developed religions tend to emphasize this principle, they teach us to be gentle and meek, to stand in a position to elevate others and live for their sake, and to serve them sacrificially. All this serves to instill discipline in us so we will be able to abide by the laws of the Kingdom of Heaven. (78-115, 1975.5.6)

Prayer at the Ceremony for the Dissolution of Resentment

Beloved Heavenly Father,

We know the sorrowful fact that we could not accomplish the great work of Your creation on the earth. How much did Adam and Eve's failure give grief to You and how hard You have worked in order to resolve this sorrowful resentment. You made all the sacrifices by leading many saints. You led the way throughout the long history on the earth so that the standard of the True Parents could be set. You set the standard of True Parents, in this land of Korea, centering upon this Unification Church. Thinking about all of this, once more, I am deeply grateful for Your love.

The son and daughter who are here, the two of us, are called in front of You. They fulfilled their responsibilities and came to stand in this place. When I traced Your sorrowful heart in this course of restoration, which has been full of resentment, and when I thought of the most sorrowful fact of the failure of the human ancestors Adam and Eve, I pledged to inherit Your heart, to change the path on which they betrayed You and to give devoted service to You. Since the day I was born, I have followed Your will, and in my ministry, the days and months of 30 years have passed. During this period there was an internal grief in Your heart and in the mind of Your son which could not be spoken to anybody, could not be shown to anybody. I have wished for the day when I could go beyond the limits of race and dissolve your resentment by all means, to dissolve the resentment caused by the miserable crucifixion of Jesus on the cross.

I am very grateful for the surprising fact that the very day my wish can be fulfilled is May 1, 1975. This day marks the 21st year of the creation of this Unification movement, and this is the time to finish the second seven-year course, the course of indemnity for world Christianity. This is also the point where 30 years of history are coming to an end centering upon Your son. Thinking about the fact that all of this has been carefully prepared in Your course of restoration, I have no words to express myself.

Heavenly Father, You grieved when You had to greet the fallen human ancestors. You grieved when You sent Jesus to accomplish Your will, and yet he was crucified. You · grieved when the many Christians who followed Your son were killed, and when many religious people had to sacrifice themselves. God, I know how great Your sorrow was to have seen all of these things. The angelic world was left behind and could not help in the perfection of Adam and Eve. I know You have been sympathizing with all these miserable people whose resentment has not yet been resolved. Father, this is the family of True Parents whom You have been seeking and the body of True Parents whom You have been seeking.

This day, here are Your son and Your daughter in front of You, Heavenly Father, and Your children have gathered at this place, centering upon Your son and Your daughter, and we are praying here; so please accept this prayer.

I am grateful for this day when I can offer the lost foundation centering upon the family in front of You, and centering upon the foundation of this nation and race, I pray this day will become a day to accomplish the dissolution of the resentment of the True Parents and to dissolve the resentment of the angels as well as the resentment in Your own mind. The suffering of God, of True Parents, of the angelic world, of Christianity, Confucianism, Buddhism, Islam, and all the religions which were working behind each race in the entire world are all connected to this dissolution. I am grateful for this day and for this ceremony which allows the dissolution of the resentment of the Father, of the True Parents and of Mrs. Choi. Now we have the authority to dissolve all the resentment of all religious people on the earth. Now on this joyful day, a group is born who can establish the sovereignty of the nation of the Heavenly Father. Please unite other conscientious people, philosophers, good soldiers of each nation, civilians of each nation, and all those many spirits who helped each nation go the path of goodness in order to advance into the Heavenly Kingdom. I sincerely wish You will permit this day to become the day of dissolution of all resentments for which they have been longing.

We have been able to achieve the liberation of the True Parents, the angelic world, the religious world, the conscientious world, and the good soldiers and loyal subjects, but I know that there is also the miserable Cain world, which has opposed God, opposed religion and opposed conscientious people throughout history. They opposed God centering upon Judas and the emperor Nero, and now they oppose God centering on the Communist Party. I know that I cannot judge them from the same place of Your judgment today when all resentments are being dissolved on the cosmic level. Father, forgive them by the dignified and victorious authority which You have bestowed on the True Parents so that these people can find the way to contribute to You, to the True Parents, and to the many religions on the earth.

Please make this an opportunity to love our enemies, to end our resentment against those who pierced God's heart with nails, crucified Your son Jesus and killed many people whom You loved. I know that the gates of hell can be opened and the path to liberate hell can be prepared by spreading Your heart of love and by liberating our enemies. Please make this a time when the people on the Cain side, who are in the special domain of your grace, can raise themselves to a position to revolt against the evil world, to pledge loyalty to heaven, to dominate all the evil spirits in the evil world, and to pledge to go the way of Your Will. I pray the same for the good spirits of children who have been loyal to God and who have walked this path of death. Please make this a time for them to be filled with joyfulness by the special pardon of heavenly grace at a time when the sovereignty of the world is under the control of evil spirits. Let them repent and bow their heads down in front of True Parents, in front of the good angelic world, good religious people, good soldiers and conscientious people. Let them pledge to fulfill this responsibility in front of God in this special time under God's dominion.

Beloved Heavenly Father, I sincerely pray to accomplish Jesus' prayer today at this time, the prayer by which Jesus offered his true life on the cross. The True Parents who are standing here went through a history in which they received the opposition of their race, all of Christianity, the satanic world and the entire nation, in their 30 years of public life. I ask you to forgive and resolve all the resentments of the True Parents and of the many people who sacrificed themselves up until now. I ask you to forgive the Cain world, not to make them enemies, but to let them stand in the position to spread God's Principle completely. Let them become the shadow of the substance, to go wherever the substance goes -- just like a shadow cannot exist without a substance.

Father, I wish to dissolve all the scars of Your mind by fulfilling the standard which Jesus desired. I know that Jesus had resentment within himself too, walking the path of death alone. I know Your resentment cannot be resolved unless Jesus' forgiveness for his enemies is accomplished on the earth. I pray that Jesus' liberation can begin at this time, and the liberation of Christianity can begin at this time. I offer all the existing things -- man and all things of creation, including Lucifer and the many evil persons in the satanic world -- as your belongings at this time, in the name of True Parents. I sincerely ask You to receive this offering.

Many saints who are serving God in the spiritual world, and many good religious people centering upon the 24 religions who are sitting on God's imperial floor at this time, together with True Parents, are sincerely asking You to respond to the appeal of True Parents. I sincerely ask You to forgive all these sorrowful events of history. I know that this is a very solemn time which enables us to prepare for a new turning point in the midst of the confusion of this world. This ceremony enables us to heighten Your victory.

Father, it is now 8:50 a.m. on May 1, 1975. At this time, please declare this moment to the entire cosmos and the world. I sincerely wish for You to declare it in Your name and rejoice in the dissolution of the resentment of the angelic world. Rejoice in the dissolution of the resentment of True Parents, and rejoice in the dissolution of the resentment of the religious world which you have been trusting up until now, centering upon the True Parents. Rejoice in the accomplishment of the desire of conscientious people and philosophers, and forget even the resentments of the miserable satanic world and rejoice in their liberation. Now, this son and this daughter, following Your declaration, declare the Day of the Total Dissolution of Resentment in this substantial world in the name of God and in the name of True Parents. Because all things correspond to Your Principle, all nations, all people, all the spiritual world, all good spirits, and all good people are now able to correspond to the Principle. God, please forgive all evil people as well -- those who are waiting for Your embrace. They can go into Heavenly Father's bosom by establishing one standard of merit in the domain of Your grace, through this liberation at this time.

Now, we are going to have our ceremony to accomplish these conditions. Heavenly Father, please perform it with Your love, with Your joyful heart, by spreading Your authority, using goodness, chasing the evil out, and subjugating evil in front of goodness. Please accomplish everything on the racial and national level which You have been trying to accomplish by the restoration of indemnity centering upon Cain and Abel. By doing so, I sincerely wish to claim one day when even the communist world will bow its head down in front of the happiness of God and respond in heaven's victorious position. Today, Vietnam was subjugated by the communist camp. I pray that this becomes an offering representing the satanic world and that it will become a starting point to re-indemnify the communist world so that they can surrender in front of God and the world, starting from Korea.

Now I declare the significance of this day in the name of God and in the name of True Parents and the angelic world by mobilizing all the good spirits. I pray that all the spiritual world can be mobilized and all conscientious people can be mobilized so that this declaration will be set firmly like iron. Centering upon God, at Chung Pyung Lake, on this very day, at this very time, in this very place, the entire spiritual world is paying full attention, the entire angelic world is paying full attention, God is paying full attention, and the True Parents on the earth are paying full attention. All Christianity, all religions, all good nations, all loyal subjects are paying full attention, and the communist world is paying full attention.

I offer this on this very day, expecting only that Heavenly Father shall embrace this offering in His bosom. So, please receive this. As I leave it all to you, Heavenly Father, I sincerely wish You to receive this as Your victory, and I declare it all in the name of the True Parents.

Let Us Know the Heart of God

Human beings living on earth easily think of things centered on themselves.

Organizations also think of themselves and their own success. All nations, without exception, think of things centered on themselves. But for the human fall, that kind of desire would be good, not bad. Without the human fall, if you thought of yourselves, it would be as children of God; you would think the way God would want you to. If you thought of your family it would be of your family centered on God. When you thought of your tribe, you would be thinking of God's tribe. When you thought of a nation, you would naturally think of that nation under God. This would be the relationship between God, society and yourselves, if there had been no human fall.

But, since the human fall, human beings have come to think of themselves selfishly and to think of their families, their tribes and their nations in the satanic way. We don't understand that we have been doing that because we didn't understand that Satan was evil. Why aren't we supposed to think of things centered on ourselves? Since we are living on Satan's side instead of God's, when you think of things in a selfcentered way you are making the bond between you and Satan stronger, so that you cannot separate from him. You and Satan are bound together, and by doing things that way it means you don't want to be separated from Satan. But your original mind tells you that things are not right, that you are on the side of evil while you belong on God's side.

Deny the satanic environment

So it is reasonable for fallen human beings to want to be separated from Satan by denying themselves and by denying the satanic environment. Look at yourselves: you may be handsome or beautiful yet you still are not satisfied. Somehow your lives feel empty and in vain. Isn't that true? (Yes!) The same thing applies to families, tribes and nations. They are not at all satisfied with what they have. They are groping in darkness for something higher, better and happier because they are not satisfied with what they are now. To step up and up towards a higher goal means that you must deny where you are situated. Only by denying your present situation and sacrificing what you now have, can you climb up the ladder to reach the goal.

When you know that goal and believe you must restore yourselves to that point, just imagine when you are restored to that point on the individual level; unless you restore your whole family, you are not happy at all. Even though you may have restored your whole family, if your clan and tribe were still below that level, then you could not be happy and you would have to come down again to lift them up.

Again, even if your tribe is saved, and brought back to the original point, if your nation as a whole was still down below, without having been saved, then you would have to go back and lift them up, too. Unless you do that, you are not happy at all. If one nation is lifted up to meet the standard of being united with God and if the whole world were still in Satan's hands, the people could not be happy.

If we view things from God's standpoint, we must ask how He would feel. If God could educate us in love, what method would He use? God wants to restore individuals, families, tribes, nations, and the whole world at once, if possible. Therefore, God is somehow trying to prevent us from going the satanic way on the individual, family, tribal, national and worldwide levels, all at once. God would want us to wait until we restore the whole world. He wouldn't be happy if just we as individuals were saved. If you are completely separated from Satan, with all the nations and the whole world under you, then God would be overjoyed. God being wise and always thinking of the whole He would not be satisfied if you had restored yourselves as individuals, families, tribes or nations, unless you also restore the whole world. So, God is always waiting for us to restore the whole world and only then will He make His last move.

God will start all over again

We know that God needs religion because only religions are concerned with salvation and people struggling to save the world. In this sense, all religious people are waiting for the last days to come because they know that the last days mean the consummation of sinful history. If consummation means that everything on the face of the earth will be destroyed, that would mean God is a failure. So, God is struggling hard to restore individuals, families, nations, and the whole world. He will start all over again, with a new world order in which people will live happily ever after and perfected people will be living with God.

Human history must witness the time when all religions and religious people assume hegemony over the world, ruling the world with conscience. Out of all the religions, there must be one central religion of God's choice through which God would exercise His power and restore all mankind. Only Christianity can carry out that mission. It has been the nature of God's heart to wait until that day comes, then God will set up the new standard. Has human history ever witnessed that kind of period?

Looking back into our past, we must clearly understand whether there has ever been such a period in which any of the religions took the lead towards that goal.

Roughly divided, there are two main blocs or ideologies, democracy and Communism. We are well on the way to becoming united into one ism or ideology, but in the future we must expect an inevitable collision between democracy and Communism, one winning over the other. "When will that be?" is the question. When will that time come? Which ideology will achieve its prize? Has democracy won over Communism in the past? (No!) Is it coming in the future, them (Yes!) Do you think that the democratic world will ever win over the Communist world? (Yes!) The leading democratic nation is now America; do you think America will win over Communism? (Yes!) Did America win in Vietnam? (No!) Vietnam was the obstacle and since you retreated from Vietnam, what will happen?

When will the time come when America will win over Communism? Do American youth have confidence that America will win over Communism in the future?(No.) Are they confident that America will keep its leadership over the rest of the nations? Do you think America is rising or declining? (Declining!) If you go on like this, you are doomed to peril! If that happens, is it against God's will or in accordance with God's will? (Against!) But the American public doesn't understand that. The democratic world doesn't understand the situation.

The presidency of President Nixon was the culmination and if he failed to keep his presidency, I knew that America would decline. So I was desperate to help him. People were calling me "pro-Nixon," but I was not at all pro-Nixon. I was pro-God and I saw things from the viewpoint of God. That's why I was desperate to help President Nixon at that time.

Religions and democracy must unite

Communism could have been defeated. God's heart was seeking any person or group which set the goal of uniting religions with the democratic world. The rest of the world would then unite into one, and win over the satanic power of Communism completely. God was looking for such a person or group. If that person or group thinks that unity between religions and the democratic world and then unity among all humanity will be brought about by them, then Communism will be defeated.

God would love that group. There's no other group in the whole world but ours which is able to carry out the job. So, would God depend upon you or not? (Yes!) God needs us.

The members of the Unification Church want to sweep the whole world, starting from the individual level of things, and going to family, tribal, and national levels, finally reaching out to the end of the world. It is only in the Divine Principle movement that we are all united, never wanting to separate from each other. When we are separated, it is only when we want to go back to reach out to the people and bring them back and have them united with us in even stronger causes. So it is natural that we are constantly on the battlefield while there are still Communists left in the world. We are alert, and not only that, we advance forward to fight against them and win over them. We will live and die for this cause, and we will never retreat until we win over the last Communists. We cannot be frustrated. We cannot sit idle.

What kind of a leader would you want? One who will be just sweet and kind and not push you hard or one who is almost like a dictator, pushing you hard so that you can dash forward to attain the goal? In a time of emergency, for instance when America is declining without hope of rising again without strong leadership, your president must be strong enough to dictate to the people and push them hard enough so that the nation will win over Communism or any invading power. Would you want a president who is always weak in decision-making? (No!) I wouldn't want such a president over the people of America. God would not want one like that. You would not want one like that. Isn't that true? (Yes!) That's God's way in a time of turmoil and confusion. From the standpoint of God, if you zigzag during an emergency it will last indefinitely. You will not be able to attain the goal.

We must go straight up, without going zigzag. Which of the two ways would you want? (Straight!) Would you choose the easy way or the tough one? If you would choose a ·difficult way, are you wise or foolish?(Wise!) Now you have the general picture of what I mean, and if there is a God, He would want to have us go that way. Then alone God can rejoice over what we are doing. Only in that way can we have victory.

God wants to dance and sing

God cannot but help think of things this way. God always remembers the days on which He loved Adam and Eve before the fall. He was omnipotent and His plan was to have His children live in the world without satanic invasion forever, under His divine love. If men had not fallen and could have experienced God's heart without separating from Him, they could have lived in the ideal world; they would have lived under the protection of God's love. They would have lived in utter satisfaction, intoxicated by divine love. What would sinless Adam and Eve look like? Would they frown and be discontented all day? Or would they sing and dance all over? Would the angels frown at the ideal son and daughter of God rejoicing? No, the angels would have had to sing and dance with Adam and Eve.

God also would have danced, sang, smiled and laughed, so that the whole world would shake. He would have caused all creation to be in harmony with the happiness of dancing, smiling and singing together. When you are happy and laughing and dancing, would you feel like escaping from each other or like coming closer to each other, hugging each other and dancing hand in hand? Then what would have happened in the world? Would we have unity or separation? When all are united, will people be happiest or the most miserable? If the whole world is laughing, dancing, and singing songs, who is the top leader? It is not God, but Adam and Eve. Your physical parents, too, when their children are dancing and singing, would smile and feel like dancing and singing.

We now clearly understand that man is in the position to dominate the whole creation when the whole creation is harmonized in joy and happiness. Isn't that wonderful? (Yes!) Have you ever thought of that? That's why you need me. It is God's wish, man's wish, and the wish of all creation that such a world come about so that they can sing, smile, and dance in utter happiness, harmonized with each other in beauty and goodness. Both God and the angels are looking at the world, waiting for that day to come. Have you become like that?

God will beat you, then save you

You're always begging to God, "Oh, please! Help us, save us from the dangers of life!" How disgusted God must be, to look at you always begging in misery! Do you think God would be happy in your doing that and call you to His side with a happy heart? What would He do to those people? Would He kick at those people? First He will frown at you and feel like beating you, and after that He will feel sympathetic to you and try to save you. That is why, in the religious world, people are always beaten first and then saved. That's what we call indemnity. You'll be beaten, you will bleed, and you will look miserable. And then God will become sympathetic with you, and soothing your heart will say, "You were originally created to be loved by me, but you are in satanic hands, and in order for me to save you I had to do this." Then He will take you back to His side. That's God's heart -- it's His way of loving you.

But you too often betray God's love, you leave God again after coming back to Him. He looks for you again, but you are separated farther and farther from Him. What would God's heart be like at that moment? He would feel like beating you harder and harder and when you cling to Him again, He cannot sympathize. Just imagine, if your parents love you dearly and you betray their love, sin and come back to them, they would welcome you. But if you separate from them again, and commit even more mistakes, and repent to your parents, what would they feel? You are prodigal sons, always breaking your parents' hearts nut you are so greedy that you want to be loved by your parents more than your brothers and sisters. When God looks at you being like that, what do you think He feels? We can well imagine that God is miserable looking at us. God knows that we are miserable people, but more than that, God will look at Himself always miserably because His children are in such a condition.

When God is so miserable, who will console His heart? Whenever God is disappointed at human beings now, He's sure to remember sinless Adam and Eve living in happiness. Isn't that true with you? Suppose you have sinned, when you look back to your past you repent and say, "Oh! If only I hadn't done such a thing. I could have been happy in the bosom of my parents. Before it is too late, I want to go back to Father and Mother" and you struggle hard to go back. You recollect the days in which you were utterly happy. Comparing your present life to life in that previous world, you want to leave this situation and go back to the original state.

God will be happy when we are

Man was created in the image of God, so we can imagine that God's heart is the same. Only by having us become happy will He become happy. It is God's desire to bring man back so that He can love them as He would have done before the fall. It is not only God's desire, but the desire of the whole creation, including the spirit world. God, man and the whole creation are waiting for the day to come in which all will be restored. The first desire of man is to see the day in which some people at least will be restored to the point above the stage where Adam and Eve fell. Secondly, he or she would want to see the day come in which not only some are restored and live in that world but he himself, too.

So you must find one person who is entitled to be loved by God, and then by uniting with him, you also go back to the original status. Without our finding such a person doing the central job, we cannot follow his example and restore ourselves as individuals and we cannot take a mate and build such a family, clan, tribe, nation and world. Religious people have been prepared for that person to be found, and then to have the people follow his example. In all the major religions, people are expecting the Messiah, whatever the terminology may be for the leading figure by whom or through whom the rest of the people can be saved. When the Messiah comes, he's the central personage whom other people would miss and to whom they would like to bring their families, clans and nations. Even religious people want to lay a foundation to live in this world, and to receive benefit from their religion. But when we really understand that we are now living in the fallen world, we want to have nothing to do with that world: First of all, we must deny ourselves and our former circumstances in order to be able to come back to man's original status. Has there ever been such a religion? If there were no such religion in the world, it would be miserable. So, our purpose in this movement is to build such a group.

In our movement, all young people are obedient to the call of God. If God ever finds such a group of people, He could have hope that He could build the ideal world of unity through these people. If they found the Messiah, they would follow him, and whatever is said by him would be put into practice. A very beautiful young white lady could marry an ugly black boy if that is God's will. If a girl of 18 is supposed to marry an old man, can you say, "If it is God's will... as you please! I will do that." If in such circumstances the answer is always "yes" then you are going to be introduced to God by the mediator. The Messiah can introduce you to God because he's the greatest example of that dedication. Whatever he is told by God, he will always answer with "yes." If you do the same, the Messiah will find his image in you, so he can easily introduce you to God. Those who are entitled to the kingdom of heaven are that kind of people. Jesus Christ was one, and anyone who is obedient to commands coming from God is one. Those who are in the highest realms of spirit world are those who lived that kind of life. Are you the sons and daughters to the Messiah, inheriting his way of life? (Yes!) Are you ready to be crucified if it is God's will? (Yes!) If you are able to say "Yes" to whatever God tells you to do, then God will respect you and smile at you instead of being angry.

Be obedient to God's will

At the time of the fall, what was the attitude of Adam and Eve? Were they obedient to God's will? No. So we must go the reverse way, doing opposite things. Girls, if you are told to shave your hair and even shave your eyebrows and everything, if it is God's will you will obey without reservation, won't you? (Yes!) When you are told to go fundraising, will you say, "Oh, I'm a graduate student with an MA degree! How can I go out on the street selling flowers? That's a nobody's job." Instead of doing that, you must say that you can be the king of fundraisers.

How would God react? He would be enchanted by you. He would miss you and want to see you. If God is with you, all satanic people will be repelled from you. So, without your being conscious of it you are already victors. Even in witnessing, when you are too old to witness to people, you can easily fear, "Oh! Again I must witness to the people. Not two hours, but five hours, eight hours, 24 hours, even in my dreams!" Instead of doing that, why don't you do the job willingly so that when you are told to do eight hours of witnessing, you want to do 24 hours. God will be beaten by that. At Barrytown, when I assembled all the overseas missionaries, at first I imagined that they feared going to unknown lands, but their faces were all brilliant and full of hope, so I was very happy.

To go back to the mainstream of my thought, you must think that nothing is impossible when you do things asked by God. In building God's kingdom, I need that kind of people as citizens. It is God's ideal to build a world in which the kings of the earth are going to live. Seen from this viewpoint, does God have such individuals, such families, such nations and such a world? No. We now know that it is the desire of God, man, the angels and the whole creation to have that kind of world established, but it has not been realized yet. Don't you want to see God's face all lie up? Do you want to see Him dance, and hear Him sing? (Yes!) It is not only your wish, but also the wish of the angelic world and the whole creation. It is the wish of God Himself. It is the focal point of all wishes, the goal of all wishes, the sum of all wishes. If such a family should ever exist, it would be one where God would want to live, the angels would want to live, and the whole creation would want to rejoice. Not, only a nation, but the whole world must be built like that.

Sing and dance through life

But if there's no such individual, no such family, no such nation, and no such world what would you do? You know that God wants that kind of a world established and you, too, want it. You should have the confidence to say, "I am above the level where Adam and Eve fell. I have nothing to do with sin. I'm the king of yes-men and I will fulfill every command from God." God would want to see if you can do it. He will trust you so much. Wherever you go, even though you have fallen into the dungeon of life, you will sing and dance. Satan cannot attack that kind of person. If you can do your job happily and smile and dance all through life, if there are obstacles before you, you will kick them out of the way. After going through all these things, you will sing songs of glory and victory. Toward such people, God cannot but feel joy. God cannot but protect you and help you, and to those persons, there's nothing but victory ahead.

If you can say, "Here I am, all ready, and my mate is here. We can form an ideal family. And with our family in the center we can form an ideal clan, tribe, nation and world," God cannot but rely on such people and use those people to restore the whole world. If there's any such individual, he's sure to make a family like that. If there's any such clan in the world, that clan is sure to be able to build a tribe like that, the tribe the nation, and the nation the world. If you are that kind of person, ready to build a family like that, would your wife follow you out of joy and willingness? Or would your wife say, "I have been with him 30 years, and he has not even bought a house for our children. We are living under such miserable conditions; how can I believe in his being able to make a future world?" There are numerous religions in the world, but there's only one religion in which people are confident to build such a family, such a tribe, nation and world. That's none other than the Unification group.

All through my life, I've known that I was born for that. I will live for that and die for that. In my lifetime I have got to build my family on that base, and build my clan, tribe, and the world into a place like that. I have been under great difficulties and hardships, but I survived all those things and came to the United States to win a victory here. The Unification Church excels any other church. It excels the democratic idea, and it excels Communism, so God cannot but rely on this group.

While in other Christian denominations there is rupture and division, in our movement there's strong unity. We are confident of winning the democratic world, and we are confident to win over and absorb Communism. So, God cannot but rely on this group. There's no other group but ours. Even in the free world there's racial discrimination and conflict between colors, creeds, and things like that. But our movement transcends that. The democratic world and even the Communist world discriminate between classes but we transcend that, so we are the only and the most wonderful group on which God can rely. We will always be standing in the vanguard, and all others are destined to follow us.

We are building a new world

You are born in America, but you are not an American citizen anymore. It is God's heart to want to do the job, and if you are really His children you must be able to carry out what is assigned to you by God. Then alone can you really call yourselves the sons and daughters of God. We are going to build a world in which everything will be God-centered, and all people will be united -- singing, dancing, and smiling. All will live together in unity and harmony.

This is our job to carry out; it is our task to build such a world, and we are confident of doing that. Just imagine: in the near future we will be using Telstar to televise what we are doing to the ends of the world. When we dance, people all over the world will see us dance and sing in harmony over TV. God will be so happy He will not only smile, but He will almost weep out of joy; angels and the whole creation will do the same, together with man. Here we transcend national boundaries: Germans, Americans, Japanese, and members from many nationalities are preparing for the day to come. We are practicing living that type of life in God's kingdom. It is God's heart and God's wish to establish and live in that kind of world. Can you do that?(Yes!) Knowing that this is God's desire for you, and this is God's heart, I want you to be confident to carry out the job, establish this kind of world and live as citizens of the world.

The New Future of Humankind

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your gathering here this evening. This evening I will speak on “The New Future of Humankind.” I hope you will reflect on this topic along with me.

We live in a chaotic world. We have passed through an age of theocentric culture, the Christian culture of the Middle Ages, which began to decline at a certain point, and today we live in the era of humanism. Our age is also the era of materialism, a fitting word for the current secular attitudes and worldviews. Having passed through such states of confusion, no one has been able to come up with clear answers to our problems; humanity today is at the beginning of a post-ideological era, in which everything is out of control.

Our value as object partners of the absolute God

The problems we currently face do not arise from a shortage of resources, whether human or material. They arise because a clear view of God has yet to appear. Until humankind establishes a view of life or a spiritual interpretation of history based on a definitive view of God, I believe that a new future for humanity cannot appear. In my opinion, when we understand God clearly, we can resolve the problems that originate from ambiguity in our view of God, which began in the medieval ages, as well as from the trends of materialism and humanism in the present age.

Therefore, the matter of whether or not God exists poses a profound problem. It is important that I make a permanent impression on you this evening.

Throughout the ages and to this day, people have longed eagerly for love, ideals, happiness and peace that are true, eternal and unchanging. Yet people, who are apt to change their attitudes and values, cannot achieve these ideals. The current world situation clearly illustrates this. If there is an absolute, eternal, unique and unchanging God, we need to know the origin of true love, true ideals, true peace and true happiness that derives from a new viewpoint about this God. We can usher in a new world of peace and happiness only when we have clarified our view of God, of life and of the material world from God’s perspective.

What is the problem here? It is that, even if God is absolute, it is impossible for Him to achieve love, ideals, happiness or peace by Himself. Love, ideals, peace and happiness are words that are not realized in isolation. They can be achieved only with an object partner. Therefore, even in the case of the absolute God, unless He has an object partner, He cannot achieve the absolute love, absolute ideals, absolute happiness or absolute peace that He desires so very much.

Based on this viewpoint, what being could appear before that absolute God as His object partner? We can think only of human beings. Until now, we did not know that human beings alone possess the value of the object partner who can achieve God’s ideals, the object partner who can realize God’s true love, and the object partner who can complete God’s happiness and peace.

God is the subject partner and human beings are the object partners. We need to understand that we are beings of infinite value, because we human beings are the object partners before the God who can be the King of true love, true ideals and true peace.

God desires for us to be better than He is

I would like to ask you: When you were young and you were about to choose your spouse, if you are a man and you were about to choose your wife, did you want someone who was inferior to you or someone who was better than you? When asked this question, anyone among you, regardless of who you are, will answer that you wanted someone who was better than you.

Furthermore, if there is a couple and their beloved child is about to be born, would any parent wish for their child to be inferior to them? There would not be such a parent anywhere. It is the desire of each person’s original human nature that one’s spouse or one’s child be better than he or she is. Since human beings feel this way, whom do they resemble? We cannot deny that human beings are in all respects resultant beings and not causal beings. If human beings wish for their spouse or their children to be better than they, whom would they take after in this desire? The obvious conclusion is that we have such a desire because we resemble God, who is the causal Being.

Today many people think of themselves as being worthless. There are many people who regard themselves as no better than animals, saying, “I have no special value at all.” The one thing I hope you will remember today is that God wishes for you to be better than He is. If you think about this once you return home, I am sure that you will consider this to be an important discovery. I believe that only when we recover our original value as dignified human beings can the path that leads to the world of true love, true ideals, true happiness and true peace open. On the contrary, most theologians until now have believed that the Creator and the creation cannot stand on equal footing.

We say that God is love. And we know Him to be an ideal God. However, what could He achieve by being ideal all by Himself? Can you be happy by yourself? Can you have peace and freedom all by yourself? In this regard, we are in the state we are in because we lost our original value. If we fully possessed our original value, without a doubt we would have become human beings who could be elevated by God. Because we still have this original nature latent in us, through which we can restore our original value, we desire to become the best possible object partner or subject partner.

Even among fallen human beings, is there anyone who wishes for the object partner of their love to exist for one year, or ten, and then disappear or change? Love and love’s object partner are meant to be eternal and unchanging. We desire unchanging and absolute love from an absolute and unique higher level. If human beings, who have lost their original value due to the Fall, ask for such love, could God, the eternal, unchanging, unique and absolute Being, want the object partner of His love to exist for only a little while and then disappear? Certainly not! Since God is eternal, our most obvious and logical conclusion is that He desires for us human beings, who are the object partners of His love, to be eternal as well.

Please understand clearly this pivotal conclusion, namely, that our life has to be eternal. Only then can the statement, “Humankind is the most precious existence in all of creation,” be fulfilled. Our life needs to be eternal, unchanging and absolute. Why do human beings need to be unique beings? You need to understand that because God is the subject partner, human beings, who are the object partner of His love, ideals and happiness, also need to be like Him.

Now you understand that only when there is a relationship between a subject partner and an object partner can the realization of God’s ideal, the world of love and happiness, the world of peace and true freedom, become possible. Now you understand with certainty the concept of subject partner and object partner.

The creation of heaven and earth and the cause of the Fall

Until now, we have not considered the significance of the ideal origin of the creation. What does the word “creation” mean? It implies investing everything. In order to actualize an idea, you need to invest your own energy, which corresponds to that idea. Existence begins from the act of investing.

When God considered how to design the relationship between the subject partner and the object partner, He had only two choices. One was to make the object partner live for the sake of the subject partner, Himself, and the other was to create His object partner, human beings, and to live for their sake. This was the point at which God had to establish the foundation and ideal origin of creation.

If God, who is the subject partner, one day said that all beings, who are His object partners, must obey Him absolutely and live only for the sake of their subject partner, what would happen? In the case of the relationship between a man and a woman, where the man is the subject partner and the woman the object partner, if the man said to the woman, “Live for the sake of your subject partner,” what would happen? Their way to unity would go off course.

However, if God, the King of wisdom, were to say, “Live for the sake of the object partner,” every couple would be able to unite as one. For this reason, we now need to understand that the ideal origin of the creation of the universe cannot be established by telling others to live for your sake; instead it is established by telling others to live for the sake of their object partners.

Then what is the Fall? Human beings are meant to exist for God, and God is meant to exist for human beings. God established this principle by which they exist for the sake of each other. However, the Fall occurred when human beings went against this principle and began to center on themselves. In other words, they tried to create a position for themselves in which everything would live for their sake, centered on themselves. That is the point where the Fall originated. In short, the application of the principle of the heavenly way began to fall apart.

The principle of existing for the sake of others

In spite of that, if human beings had taken after God, if God had been able to educate them and if they had lived for the sake of God, the realization of the ideal world would have been possible. Unfortunately, human beings did not do so and instead, centered on themselves, emphasized their identity as separate from God; then the Fall took place. The Bible clearly describes this.

Therefore, if we were to draw a formal conclusion now, it would be the principle that all ideal created beings exist for the sake of others. The model is true parents; parents who are born for their children, who live for their children and who would die for their children. Such parents are parents of true love and true ideals. They are the parents of true happiness and the subject of true peace for their children. What would true filial children be like? They would be born for their parents and not for themselves, live for their parents and not for themselves, and would give their lives for their parents.

Then what is the purpose behind a man coming into being? It is not for himself. He came into being for a woman. When a woman dresses in nice clothes and puts cosmetics on her face, for whom is she doing so? Is there any woman who does that for herself? She does so because of a man. The purpose of the birth of a woman is a man. They exist for one another, so the moment they think that they were born for themselves, problems arise.

Then what is an ideal husband like? Would an ideal husband say that his wife must always live for his sake? No. Where can you find a true husband and a true wife? In the case of the man, only when he knows that he was born for his wife, is living for his wife and is ready to die for his wife, can his wife say, “Oh! He is my ideal husband and the eternal and unchanging subject partner of my love.” Therefore, only a wife with such a husband can claim, “I am a happy wife.” And we truly can say that only such a family can be a family of peace.

On the other hand, we know only too well that, if a woman’s husband says that she has to live for his sake, she will be unhappy. Based on this viewpoint, we have to praise God as the King of wisdom, for instituting this principle of existing for the sake of others as the origin of the creation of the universe.

Here we have reached one conclusion. At this point we can establish the formula that only where one exists for the sake of others can true love, true ideals, true happiness and true peace begin. If God has established such a formula in the creation of the universe, through this formula alone can the love, the ideals, the happiness and the peace desired by God become possible. Otherwise, obviously we have to conclude that they cannot come about.

Patriots, great men and women, and saints live for the greatest cause

If you ask what a true patriot is, by applying this formula the answer would be that only someone who is born for the nation, lives for the nation, does everything for the nation and its people, and who would die for the nation can be a patriot. We know very well that Koreans consider someone like General Yi Sunsin a patriot. If you were to rank such people, those who live more for the sake of others would be of higher rank. Therefore, even a person in a miserable situation who kept his or her integrity and cared more for the sake of others would be a patriot on a higher level than others. Based on the formula, this conclusion is logical.

In the course of history until now many great men, great women and saints have come and gone. If you were to ask who is the greatest and most honorable among them, we could find the answer right away by applying this formula. That person would be someone who was born for humanity, and lived and died for humanity while pleading for them to be blessed instead of blaming them. That person would be truly the greatest saint in history.

I know that many among you are not Christians; you believe in other religions. Let us take a moment to find out who Jesus Christ was. He did not come to this earth for himself. He came for humankind and for God. Moreover, he did not live for his own sake; instead he lived for the sake of God and humanity. If there were one person who fulfilled one hundred percent the standard of living for the sake of others, in good times and in bad, in accordance with God’s heavenly laws, that person would be none other than Jesus Christ. For this reason, God had no choice but to protect Jesus and develop Christianity. Therefore, Christianity became a global religion, both in spirit and in reality.

The Bible stresses living for the sake of others

Jesus’ words are very clear, when we analyze them. We need to know that he was disclosing a great heavenly principle when he said he came “not to be served, but to serve.” (Matt. 20:28) In other words, he came to live for the sake of others, not to ask others to live for his sake. Since Jesus’ life was anchored in God’s ideal, the origin of all forms of existence, we need to realize that Jesus preached about this origin and followed a life course that was in complete accord with this origin.

Despite the great volume of the Bible’s sixty-six books in the Old and New Testaments, they can be summed up by the phrase, “Live for the sake of others.” We did not understand until now the paradoxical reasoning behind the idea that those who wish to go up will go down, and those who wish to go down will go up. This is certainly the truth in light of the principled origin of the creation.

I am aware that there are many people who do not know much about the spirit world. Thanks to God’s special grace, I have had opportunities to experience the spirit world thoroughly. What does the structure of that world look like? Who can go to the kingdom of heaven? Who is allowed to go near the throne of God? Those who have lived only for their own sake cannot go there. Since God Himself, who is both the ideal Origin and central Being of creation, lives for the universe, and since He lives as the central Being of the principle of living for the sake of others, the structure of the kingdom of heaven is simple. Our obvious conclusion is that it is a place that can be entered only by those who live for the sake of others.

The place where God, the Lord of the universe, dwells is our original homeland, the original world. How can you learn to be in accord with the law of the original homeland? It is through religion. What, then, would be the mission of religion? God’s Will for religious believers is not to live only for the sake of their own religious denomination, as do sectarians. Even if it means transcending itself, a religious denomination needs to be able to live for the sake of God and for the sake of humanity. Instead of living for one’s own church and fighting for one’s own church, a religious denomination ought to fight against Satan and direct its course for the sake of humanity.

What makes a true religion?

For this reason, today’s religion is a training ground where you practice to live according to the law of the original homeland, in order to equip yourself to return there. For this reason, since the onset of history, the many religions that followed God’s Will practiced self-denial. Until now, we did not understand why we were told to sacrifice ourselves and serve others. This is because the original world is the original homeland where one exists for the sake of others. Therefore, in order to go to that world, you need to train and prepare. In this regard, the higher the level of a religion, the more it emphasizes the need for sacrifice and service. This attests to the fact that God has continued to carry out His providence throughout the course of history.

Then what makes a true religion? The answer is simple. A true religion is one that follows God’s Will. What is God’s Will? It is to save the universe and to save the world. Christians need to know this. God’s Will is to save the world. This world needs to be saved, even if it means sacrificing Christianity. This is the Will of God. The original mission of Christianity is to fulfill God’s Will. In order to achieve His Will, Christianity needs to fulfill the responsibility of bringing salvation to humanity. Otherwise, it will be judged and will not be allowed to go the way it is destined to go. I have looked into this and found it to be true.

Where can we find the true religion? It is a religion that can sacrifice its own nation, its own denomination or its own church for humanity. Such a religion will not perish. What do we need to determine? You need to know that we can differentiate what is true and what is false based on the principle of who lives more for the sake of the nation and humanity.

The reason for the principle of living for the sake of others

Why did God have no choice other than to establish the principle of living for the sake of others? I shall elaborate on this question. Let’s say you owed a favor to someone who was truly devoted to you. In that case, would you wish to pay back only fifty percent, or would you wish to pay back more than one hundred percent of what you owed? What would your original nature want to do in this case? Without a doubt, your original mind would desire to pay back more than one hundred percent. Because we have an original mind and can follow it, it is possible for us to be saved.

You need to know the reason why God, the King of wisdom, had no choice but to establish this principle of living for the sake of others. When you live for the sake of others, you live eternally and you also prosper. And thereupon you can develop and grow. When you owe a favor, you pay it back, and it is utterly impossible to pay back just exactly what you owe. Your original mind desires to pay back more and spurs you on to truly devote your life to do so. You need to know that it is because you have such a heart that you can go to the kingdom of heaven.

What is the second reason that God had no choice but to establish the principle of living for the sake of others? For example, let us say that there were eight family members in your family. If among those eight, the youngest child lived more for the sake of the family than anyone else, be it father or mother, or brothers or sisters, to what position would this youngest member advance? As time passed, everyone would think more and more highly of this child, and this son or daughter ultimately would emerge as the central figure.

The logic taught by today’s religions may seem paradoxical, yet if you were to follow this principle, you would see that as you lived more and more for the sake of others, you would become the central figure on a higher and higher level. How can you become the central figure? Since God exists for the sake of the entire universe, a person who lives for the sake of others comes to resemble God. Therefore, it is valid to say that He will install the one who resembles Him as the central figure in His stead. When you become an object partner who truly lives for the sake of a subject partner, who in turn truly lives for the sake of the object partner, you naturally become a central figure.

A significant problem in today’s politics and philosophy is the relationship between rulers and ruled. Until now, the solution to this issue posed a dilemma. However, we can solve it easily. Human beings in the contemporary world think it is a disgrace to stand in the position of living more for the sake of others and of being ruled and dominated by a central figure. They say, “I would rather die than be under someone else’s dominion!”

They don’t know what they are saying. We miss knowing how happy it is to be under the complete authority and rule of a person who truly lives for our sake.

Since God exists as the central figure of the universe, when you go to the spirit world, the longer you are under His dominion, be it for thousands or more years, the more you will come to know happiness. It becomes greater and greater. Until now we have been unaware of this, and also that if there is a person who truly can rule over us for our sake, we can bring about true peace. We need to understand that whoever lives for the sake of others becomes the central figure, and that by becoming the central figure they can build a completely united environment.

What is the third reason that God established the principle of living for the sake of others? Until now, when you thought of “love,” it was easy to think of it as “my love.” When you spoke of “love,” you thought of it as your own love. Where does love come from? Love does not come from me. Ideals also do not come from me. You need to know that love and ideals, which are more precious than life and more valuable than anything else, cannot come from me. They come from the object partner. This is true even for God.

We did not know that the object partner is so precious. Where do love and ideals that are more precious than life come from? They come from my object partner, not from me. We need to know that this is another reason that God established the principle of living for the sake of others. We must bow our heads in humility.

Heaven’s strategy to unite the church

This Mr. Moon, who carries the name of the Lord of the Second Coming, has suffered most severely as a leader. Then what kind of church is this Unification Church? It is simple. The name “Unification Church” suggests that you are trying to unite the church. Can you unite the church? Since their division, the Roman Catholic Church and the Greek Orthodox Church passed through a history of nine hundred and fifty years, and until now they have been unable to reunite. The Protestants divided into more than four hundred denominations. These churches have fought against one another for hundreds of years. Think of the idea of uniting them! You may even think that Mr. Moon of the Unification Church has gone a little crazy. Nonetheless, my conclusion is that it is simple. By what means can it be possible? It can be possible through the principle of living for the sake of others.

Based on this reasoning, even though I was subjected to all kinds of attacks and slander by the other existing churches during the last thirty years, I stayed quiet. It was not because I was dumb. I walked my way silently, without saying a word, because I knew that the heavenly law follows a brutal and harsh principle. I needed to go my way as God and Jesus would.

I became aware that Heaven’s strategy is to be struck first and then to make a demand. For instance, if Satan murdered a virtuous, high-level Christian, God could ask for compensation that amounted to hundreds of times greater value. Even if all existing churches came together to oppose the Unification Church, if the Unification Church were blameless, they would have to compensate God for what they had done. This is logical.

We need to understand that God is yearning for the appearance of the one person, the one organization, the one people and the one nation that can go beyond the individual and the family and the tribe, people, nation, world and, furthermore, the universe, and live absolutely for the sake of God. Faced with the Will of God, who is searching everywhere, the Unification Church of today is endeavoring and struggling to advance to such a position. I hope you will remember us as such an organization.

We can conclude that through this step-by-step principle and formula the realization of our ideals can be possible. The husband needs to live for his wife, the wife for her husband, and the parents need to live for their children. Furthermore, the family then lives for the tribe and the relatives. Moreover, the tribe lives for the people. And the nation, instead of prioritizing itself and trying to bring other nations in the world to submission, needs to say that it will live for the sake of the world, even if it means sacrificing itself. You have to know that God is looking for such a nation.

The principle that makes the realization of the ideal possible

There is no special law set aside to protect a dictator or a dictatorial empire. You need to know that when a nation prioritizes itself, and tries to tread over innumerable peoples and nations and says that others must live for its own sake, that nation is a dictatorial state and the enemy of God.

As you know, today’s communism reached a decisive turning point in 1957, when the relationship between the Soviet Union and communist

China began to break down. The communism in both countries began to fall apart because the Soviet Union asserted what it called world communism but it was solely for the sake of the Slavic people. Because the Soviet leader’s dream of a communism based on the Soviet Union as the eternal superpower state, this communism will break down. However, if the communism of the Soviet Union had been an ideology of sacrificing itself for the sake of world communism, communist China and the Soviet Union would not have split up. The Soviet Union found it impossible to establish a belief system with a standard transcending nationalism. Therefore, it has begun to break down.

From a viewpoint based on God’s Will, how can today’s United States go forward as a leading democratic nation? If the United States is indeed the superpower of democracy, it needs to sacrifice itself in order to lead democracy to live for the sake of the world. However, instead it remains in a position of living solely for its own sake, even when this means abandoning the world. And we know this to be the reason that the United States is suffering in today’s miserable situation.

From this viewpoint, where is the worldview and the ideal that can guide the world in the future? If there were a nation and a people that could transcend itself, that would save the world even if it had to sacrifice itself in the process and endure a miserable situation, a time surely would come when the world would need that nation, sometime before the twenty-fifth century or the thirtieth century. When that time came, it would be the nation that would guide the world.

Today’s Korea also cannot put Korea first. I believe that the direct path that the Korean people of today, living in misery, must find and follow is that which will establish a Korea living for the sake of Asia, for the sake of the world and, furthermore, for the sake of God.

In this regard, the Unification Church is fighting with communism head on, ready to sacrifice itself if necessary. We are working hard to prevent the downfall of the democratic world, and we are prepared to make extreme sacrifices if needed. When an organization stands on this solemn principle, by sacrificing itself if and as necessary, God will surely be with it.

Who would have thought that Jesus, who died young, in his thirties, accused of being a traitor to his people on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, possessed the building blocks to create a nation through which the democratic world could be constructed which, in turn, could lead the entire world? My life followed the same logic. For this reason the Unification Church is continuing to pioneer its path in silence.

I taught the members of the international task force who have come here from twenty-five nations around the world, “You have to love the world more than your own nations!” God has laid out this path, and a true religion has to follow it. So they have come all the way to the land of Korea today in order to create a movement of loving the Koreans more than their own people. I hope you will remember this.

Let us head toward the ideal world

God yearns for a nation that can take responsibility for the world. You need to know that He is longing for a church that can sacrifice itself for the sake of the world. If you were to ask Him, “Heavenly Parent, do you wish to be the God of Christianity or the God of the Unification Church?” He would say that He wants to be neither the God of Christianity nor the God of the Unification Church. He wishes to be the God of the world.

A group that walks a path for the sake of others on a higher level is exemplary; therefore it can last eternally and prosper, become the center of its environment, and thus come to have authority automatically. You need to know that, from that place, one can possess the eternal love and eternal ideal that come from Heaven. That is the formula for the husband to live for his wife, for the wife to live for her husband, for the parents to live for their children, and for the family to live for the tribe.

In this way we find the one formula that can encompass the view of life for the individual, the nation, the universe, and even the view of life for God. It is the ideal for the family to live for the tribe, for the tribe to live for the people, for the people to live for the nation, for the nation to live for the world, for the world to live for God, and for God to live for us. Only when you are able to say, “The great God and the love of the great God exist for me,” can peace, happiness, ideals and true love be realized. To state this conclusion differently: What belongs to me would belong to my wife; what belongs to the parents would belong to the family; what belongs to the family would belong to the tribe; what belongs to the tribe would belong to the people; what belongs to the people would belong to the nation; what belongs to the nation would belong to the world; what belongs to the world would belong to God; and what belongs to God would belong to me.

The world where such a thing is possible, where every entity lives for the sake of others, whether as an individual, as a family, as a society, as a nation or as the world, and where everyone lives for the sake of others, no matter where they go, is the most wonderful ideal that we all yearn for. This ideal world has the true love, true peace, true happiness and true freedom that we long for.

When such a world becomes real, having achieved unity based on God, it has to be the kingdom of heaven on earth. You need to understand that fallen humanity is advancing toward such a world, a world that will realize the new future of humankind, the world of new hope. I will conclude my speech by saying that I hope you will remember this for a long time to come.

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your gathering here this evening. This evening I will speak on “The New Future of Humankind.” I hope you will reflect on this topic along with me.

We live in a chaotic world. We have passed through an age of theocentric culture, the Christian culture of the Middle Ages, which began to decline at a certain point, and today we live in the era of humanism. Our age is also the era of materialism, a fitting word for the current secular attitudes and worldviews. Having passed through such states of confusion, no one has been able to come up with clear answers to our problems; humanity today is at the beginning of a post-ideological era, in which everything is out of control.

Our value as object partners of the absolute God

The problems we currently face do not arise from a shortage of resources, whether human or material. They arise because a clear view of God has yet to appear. Until humankind establishes a view of life or a spiritual interpretation of history based on a definitive view of God, I believe that a new future for humanity cannot appear. In my opinion, when we understand God clearly, we can resolve the problems that originate from ambiguity in our view of God, which began in the medieval ages, as well as from the trends of materialism and humanism in the present age.

Therefore, the matter of whether or not God exists poses a profound problem. It is important that I make a permanent impression on you this evening.

Throughout the ages and to this day, people have longed eagerly for love, ideals, happiness and peace that are true, eternal and unchanging. Yet people, who are apt to change their attitudes and values, cannot achieve these ideals. The current world situation clearly illustrates this. If there is an absolute, eternal, unique and unchanging God, we need to know the origin of true love, true ideals, true peace and true happiness that derives from a new viewpoint about this God. We can usher in a new world of peace and happiness only when we have clarified our view of God, of life and of the material world from God’s perspective.

What is the problem here? It is that, even if God is absolute, it is impossible for Him to achieve love, ideals, happiness or peace by Himself. Love, ideals, peace and happiness are words that are not realized in isolation. They can be achieved only with an object partner. Therefore, even in the case of the absolute God, unless He has an object partner, He cannot achieve the absolute love, absolute ideals, absolute happiness or absolute peace that He desires so very much.

Based on this viewpoint, what being could appear before that absolute God as His object partner? We can think only of human beings. Until now, we did not know that human beings alone possess the value of the object partner who can achieve God’s ideals, the object partner who can realize God’s true love, and the object partner who can complete God’s happiness and peace.

God is the subject partner and human beings are the object partners. We need to understand that we are beings of infinite value, because we human beings are the object partners before the God who can be the King of true love, true ideals and true peace.

God desires for us to be better than He is

I would like to ask you: When you were young and you were about to choose your spouse, if you are a man and you were about to choose your wife, did you want someone who was inferior to you or someone who was better than you? When asked this question, anyone among you, regardless of who you are, will answer that you wanted someone who was better than you.

Furthermore, if there is a couple and their beloved child is about to be born, would any parent wish for their child to be inferior to them? There would not be such a parent anywhere. It is the desire of each person’s original human nature that one’s spouse or one’s child be better than he or she is. Since human beings feel this way, whom do they resemble? We cannot deny that human beings are in all respects resultant beings and not causal beings. If human beings wish for their spouse or their children to be better than they, whom would they take after in this desire? The obvious conclusion is that we have such a desire because we resemble God, who is the causal Being.

Today many people think of themselves as being worthless. There are many people who regard themselves as no better than animals, saying, “I have no special value at all.” The one thing I hope you will remember today is that God wishes for you to be better than He is. If you think about this once you return home, I am sure that you will consider this to be an important discovery. I believe that only when we recover our original value as dignified human beings can the path that leads to the world of true love, true ideals, true happiness and true peace open. On the contrary, most theologians until now have believed that the Creator and the creation cannot stand on equal footing.

We say that God is love. And we know Him to be an ideal God. However, what could He achieve by being ideal all by Himself? Can you be happy by yourself? Can you have peace and freedom all by yourself? In this regard, we are in the state we are in because we lost our original value. If we fully possessed our original value, without a doubt we would have become human beings who could be elevated by God. Because we still have this original nature latent in us, through which we can restore our original value, we desire to become the best possible object partner or subject partner.

Even among fallen human beings, is there anyone who wishes for the object partner of their love to exist for one year, or ten, and then disappear or change? Love and love’s object partner are meant to be eternal and unchanging. We desire unchanging and absolute love from an absolute and unique higher level. If human beings, who have lost their original value due to the Fall, ask for such love, could God, the eternal, unchanging, unique and absolute Being, want the object partner of His love to exist for only a little while and then disappear? Certainly not! Since God is eternal, our most obvious and logical conclusion is that He desires for us human beings, who are the object partners of His love, to be eternal as well.

Please understand clearly this pivotal conclusion, namely, that our life has to be eternal. Only then can the statement, “Humankind is the most precious existence in all of creation,” be fulfilled. Our life needs to be eternal, unchanging and absolute. Why do human beings need to be unique beings? You need to understand that because God is the subject partner, human beings, who are the object partner of His love, ideals and happiness, also need to be like Him.

Now you understand that only when there is a relationship between a subject partner and an object partner can the realization of God’s ideal, the world of love and happiness, the world of peace and true freedom, become possible. Now you understand with certainty the concept of subject partner and object partner.

The creation of heaven and earth and the cause of the Fall

Until now, we have not considered the significance of the ideal origin of the creation. What does the word “creation” mean? It implies investing everything. In order to actualize an idea, you need to invest your own energy, which corresponds to that idea. Existence begins from the act of investing.

When God considered how to design the relationship between the subject partner and the object partner, He had only two choices. One was to make the object partner live for the sake of the subject partner, Himself, and the other was to create His object partner, human beings, and to live for their sake. This was the point at which God had to establish the foundation and ideal origin of creation.

If God, who is the subject partner, one day said that all beings, who are His object partners, must obey Him absolutely and live only for the sake of their subject partner, what would happen? In the case of the relationship between a man and a woman, where the man is the subject partner and the woman the object partner, if the man said to the woman, “Live for the sake of your subject partner,” what would happen? Their way to unity would go off course.

However, if God, the King of wisdom, were to say, “Live for the sake of the object partner,” every couple would be able to unite as one. Otherwise, obviously we have to conclude that they cannot come about.

Patriots, great men and women, and saints live for the greatest cause

If you ask what a true patriot is, by applying this formula the answer would be that only someone who is born for the nation, lives for the nation, does everything for the nation and its people, and who would die for the nation can be a patriot. We know very well that Koreans consider someone like General Yi Sunsin a patriot. If you were to rank such people, those who live more for the sake of others would be of higher rank. Therefore, even a person in a miserable situation who kept his or her integrity and cared more for the sake of others would be a patriot on a higher level than others. Based on the formula, this conclusion is logical.

In the course of history until now many great men, great women and saints have come and gone. If you were to ask who is the greatest and most honorable among them, we could find the answer right away by applying this formula. That person would be someone who was born for humanity, and lived and died for humanity while pleading for them to be blessed instead of blaming them. That person would be truly the greatest saint in history.

I know that many among you are not Christians; you believe in other religions. Let us take a moment to find out who Jesus Christ was. He did not come to this earth for himself. He came for humankind and for God. Moreover, he did not live for his own sake; instead he lived for the sake of God and humanity. If there were one person who fulfilled one hundred percent the standard of living for the sake of others, in good times and in bad, in accordance with God’s heavenly laws, that person would be none other than Jesus Christ. For this reason, God had no choice but to protect Jesus and develop Christianity. Therefore, Christianity became a global religion, both in spirit and in reality.

The Bible stresses living for the sake of others

Jesus’ words are very clear, when we analyze them. We need to know that he was disclosing a great heavenly principle when he said he came “not to be served, but to serve.” (Matt. 20:28) In other words, he came to live for the sake of others, not to ask others to live for his sake. Since Jesus’ life was anchored in God’s ideal, the origin of all forms of existence, we need to realize that Jesus preached about this origin and followed a life course that was in complete accord with this origin.

Despite the great volume of the Bible’s sixty-six books in the Old and New Testaments, they can be summed up by the phrase, “Live for the sake of others.” We did not understand until now the paradoxical reasoning behind the idea that those who wish to go up will go down, and those who wish to go down will go up. This is certainly the truth in light of the principled origin of the creation.

I am aware that there are many people who do not know much about the spirit world. Thanks to God’s special grace, I have had opportunities to experience the spirit world thoroughly. What does the structure of that world look like? Who can go to the kingdom of heaven? Who is allowed to go near the throne of God? Those who have lived only for their own sake cannot go there. Since God Himself, who is both the ideal Origin and central Being of creation, lives for the universe, and since He lives as the central Being of the principle of living for the sake of others, the structure of the kingdom of heaven is simple. Our obvious conclusion is that it is a place that can be entered only by those who live for the sake of others.

The place where God, the Lord of the universe, dwells is our original homeland, the original world. How can you learn to be in accord with the law of the original homeland? It is through religion. What, then, would be the mission of religion? God’s Will for religious believers is not to live only for the sake of their own religious denomination, as do sectarians. Even if it means transcending itself, a religious denomination needs to be able to live for the sake of God and for the sake of humanity. Instead of living for one’s own church and fighting for one’s own church, a religious denomination ought to fight against Satan and direct its course for the sake of humanity.

What makes a true religion?

For this reason, today’s religion is a training ground where you practice to live according to the law of the original homeland, in order to equip yourself to return there. For this reason, since the onset of history, the many religions that followed God’s Will practiced self-denial. Until now, we did not understand why we were told to sacrifice ourselves and serve others. This is because the original world is the original homeland where one exists for the sake of others. Therefore, in order to go to that world, you need to train and prepare. In this regard, the higher the level of a religion, the more it emphasizes the need for sacrifice and service. This attests to the fact that God has continued to carry out His providence throughout the course of history.

Then what makes a true religion? The answer is simple. A true religion is one that follows God’s Will. What is God’s Will? It is to save the universe and to save the world. Christians need to know this. God’s Will is to save the world. This world needs to be saved, even if it means sacrificing Christianity. This is the Will of God. The original mission of Christianity is to fulfill God’s Will. In order to achieve His Will, Christianity needs to fulfill the responsibility of bringing salvation to humanity. Otherwise, it will be judged and will not be allowed to go the way it is destined to go. I have looked into this and found it to be true.

Where can we find the true religion? It is a religion that can sacrifice its own nation, its own denomination or its own church for humanity. Such a religion will not perish. What do we need to determine? You need to know that we can differentiate what is true and what is false based on the principle of who lives more for the sake of the nation and humanity.

The reason for the principle of living for the sake of others

Why did God have no choice other than to establish the principle of living for the sake of others? I shall elaborate on this question. Let’s say you owed a favor to someone who was truly devoted to you. In that case, would you wish to pay back only fifty percent, or would you wish to pay back more than one hundred percent of what you owed? What would your original nature want to do in this case? Without a doubt, your original mind would desire to pay back more than one hundred percent. Because we have an original mind and can follow it, it is possible for us to be saved.

You need to know the reason why God, the King of wisdom, had no choice but to establish this principle of living for the sake of others. When you live for the sake of others, you live eternally and you also prosper. And thereupon you can develop and grow. When you owe a favor, you pay it back, and it is utterly impossible to pay back just exactly what you owe. Your original mind desires to pay back more and spurs you on to truly devote your life to do so. You need to know that it is because you have such a heart that you can go to the kingdom of heaven.

What is the second reason that God had no choice but to establish the principle of living for the sake of others? For example, let us say that there were eight family members in your family. If among those eight, the youngest child lived more for the sake of the family than anyone else, be it father or mother, or brothers or sisters, to what position would this youngest member advance? As time passed, everyone would think more and more highly of this child, and this son or daughter ultimately would emerge as the central figure.

The logic taught by today’s religions may seem paradoxical, yet if you were to follow this principle, you would see that as you lived more and more for the sake of others, you would become the central figure on a higher and higher level. How can you become the central figure? Since God exists for the sake of the entire universe, a person who lives for the sake of others comes to resemble God. Therefore, it is valid to say that He will install the one who resembles Him as the central figure in His stead. When you become an object partner who truly lives for the sake of a subject partner, who in turn truly lives for the sake of the object partner, you naturally become a central figure.

A significant problem in today’s politics and philosophy is the relationship between rulers and ruled. Until now, the solution to this issue posed a dilemma. However, we can solve it easily. Human beings in the contemporary world think it is a disgrace to stand in the position of living more for the sake of others and of being ruled and dominated by a central figure. They say, “I would rather die than be under someone else’s dominion!”

They don’t know what they are saying. We miss knowing how happy it is to be under the complete authority and rule of a person who truly lives for our sake.

Since God exists as the central figure of the universe, when you go to the spirit world, the longer you are under His dominion, be it for thousands or more years, the more you will come to know happiness. It becomes greater and greater. Until now we have been unaware of this, and also that if there is a person who truly can rule over us for our sake, we can bring about true peace. We need to understand that whoever lives for the sake of others becomes the central figure, and that by becoming the central figure they can build a completely united environment.

What is the third reason that God established the principle of living for the sake of others? Until now, when you thought of “love,” it was easy to think of it as “my love.” When you spoke of “love,” you thought of it as your own love. Where does love come from? Love does not come from me. Ideals also do not come from me. You need to know that love and ideals, which are more precious than life and more valuable than anything else, cannot come from me. They come from the object partner. This is true even for God.

We did not know that the object partner is so precious. Where do love and ideals that are more precious than life come from? They come from my object partner, not from me. We need to know that this is another reason that God established the principle of living for the sake of others. We must bow our heads in humility.

Heaven’s strategy to unite the church

This Mr. Moon, who carries the name of the Lord of the Second Coming, has suffered most severely as a leader. Then what kind of church is this Unification Church? It is simple. The name “Unification Church” suggests that you are trying to unite the church. Can you unite the church? Since their division, the Roman Catholic Church and the Greek Orthodox Church passed through a history of nine hundred and fifty years, and until now they have been unable to reunite. The Protestants divided into more than four hundred denominations. These churches have fought against one another for hundreds of years. Think of the idea of uniting them! You may even think that Mr. Moon of the Unification Church has gone a little crazy. Nonetheless, my conclusion is that it is simple. By what means can it be possible? It can be possible through the principle of living for the sake of others.

Based on this reasoning, even though I was subjected to all kinds of attacks and slander by the other existing churches during the last thirty years, I stayed quiet. It was not because I was dumb. I walked my way silently, without saying a word, because I knew that the heavenly law follows a brutal and harsh principle. I needed to go my way as God and Jesus would.

I became aware that Heaven’s strategy is to be struck first and then to make a demand. For instance, if Satan murdered a virtuous, high-level Christian, God could ask for compensation that amounted to hundreds of times greater value. Even if all existing churches came together to oppose the Unification Church, if the Unification Church were blameless, they would have to compensate God for what they had done. This is logical.

We need to understand that God is yearning for the appearance of the one person, the one organization, the one people and the one nation that can go beyond the individual and the family and the tribe, people, nation, world and, furthermore, the universe, and live absolutely for the sake of God. Faced with the Will of God, who is searching everywhere, the Unification Church of today is endeavoring and struggling to advance to such a position. I hope you will remember us as such an organization.

We can conclude that through this step-by-step principle and formula the realization of our ideals can be possible. The husband needs to live for his wife, the wife for her husband, and the parents need to live for their children. Furthermore, the family then lives for the tribe and the relatives. Moreover, the tribe lives for the people. And the nation, instead of prioritizing itself and trying to bring other nations in the world to submission, needs to say that it will live for the sake of the world, even if it means sacrificing itself. You have to know that God is looking for such a nation.

The principle that makes the realization of the ideal possible

There is no special law set aside to protect a dictator or a dictatorial empire. You need to know that when a nation prioritizes itself, and tries to tread over innumerable peoples and nations and says that others must live for its own sake, that nation is a dictatorial state and the enemy of God.

As you know, today’s communism reached a decisive turning point in 1957, when the relationship between the Soviet Union and communist

China began to break down. The communism in both countries began to fall apart because the Soviet Union asserted what it called world communism but it was solely for the sake of the Slavic people. Because the Soviet leader’s dream of a communism based on the Soviet Union as the eternal superpower state, this communism will break down. However, if the communism of the Soviet Union had been an ideology of sacrificing itself for the sake of world communism, communist China and the Soviet Union would not have split up. The Soviet Union found it impossible to establish a belief system with a standard transcending nationalism. Therefore, it has begun to break down.

From a viewpoint based on God’s Will, how can today’s United States go forward as a leading democratic nation? If the United States is indeed the superpower of democracy, it needs to sacrifice itself in order to lead democracy to live for the sake of the world. However, instead it remains in a position of living solely for its own sake, even when this means abandoning the world. And we know this to be the reason that the United States is suffering in today’s miserable situation.

From this viewpoint, where is the worldview and the ideal that can guide the world in the future? If there were a nation and a people that could transcend itself, that would save the world even if it had to sacrifice itself in the process and endure a miserable situation, a time surely would come when the world would need that nation, sometime before the twenty-fifth century or the thirtieth century. When that time came, it would be the nation that would guide the world.

Today’s Korea also cannot put Korea first. I believe that the direct path that the Korean people of today, living in misery, must find and follow is that which will establish a Korea living for the sake of Asia, for the sake of the world and, furthermore, for the sake of God.

In this regard, the Unification Church is fighting with communism head on, ready to sacrifice itself if necessary. We are working hard to prevent the downfall of the democratic world, and we are prepared to make extreme sacrifices if needed. When an organization stands on this solemn principle, by sacrificing itself if and as necessary, God will surely be with it.

Who would have thought that Jesus, who died young, in his thirties, accused of being a traitor to his people on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, possessed the building blocks to create a nation through which the democratic world could be constructed which, in turn, could lead the entire world? My life followed the same logic. For this reason the Unification Church is continuing to pioneer its path in silence.

I taught the members of the international task force who have come here from twenty-five nations around the world, “You have to love the world more than your own nations!” God has laid out this path, and a true religion has to follow it. So they have come all the way to the land of Korea today in order to create a movement of loving the Koreans more than their own people. I hope you will remember this.

Let us head toward the ideal world

God yearns for a nation that can take responsibility for the world. You need to know that He is longing for a church that can sacrifice itself for the sake of the world. If you were to ask Him, “Heavenly Parent, do you wish to be the God of Christianity or the God of the Unification Church?” He would say that He wants to be neither the God of Christianity nor the God of the Unification Church. He wishes to be the God of the world.

A group that walks a path for the sake of others on a higher level is exemplary; therefore it can last eternally and prosper, become the center of its environment, and thus come to have authority automatically. You need to know that, from that place, one can possess the eternal love and eternal ideal that come from Heaven. That is the formula for the husband to live for his wife, for the wife to live for her husband, for the parents to live for their children, and for the family to live for the tribe.

In this way we find the one formula that can encompass the view of life for the individual, the nation, the universe, and even the view of life for God. It is the ideal for the family to live for the tribe, for the tribe to live for the people, for the people to live for the nation, for the nation to live for the world, for the world to live for God, and for God to live for us. Only when you are able to say, “The great God and the love of the great God exist for me,” can peace, happiness, ideals and true love be realized. To state this conclusion differently: What belongs to me would belong to my wife; what belongs to the parents would belong to the family; what belongs to the family would belong to the tribe; what belongs to the tribe would belong to the people; what belongs to the people would belong to the nation; what belongs to the nation would belong to the world; what belongs to the world would belong to God; and what belongs to God would belong to me.

The world where such a thing is possible, where every entity lives for the sake of others, whether as an individual, as a family, as a society, as a nation or as the world, and where everyone lives for the sake of others, no matter where they go, is the most wonderful ideal that we all yearn for. This ideal world has the true love, true peace, true happiness and true freedom that we long for.

When such a world becomes real, having achieved unity based on God, it has to be the kingdom of heaven on earth. You need to understand that fallen humanity is advancing toward such a world, a world that will realize the new future of humankind, the world of new hope. I will conclude my speech by saying that I hope you will remember this for a long time to come.

Restoration through Indemnity and America's Role

If man had not fallen, words like compensation, restitution, or indemnity would not have had to be used in the dispensation. We need to make restitution because of the fall. The Principle says that when we are going to the heavenly side from the side of Saran, we must pay something as a sort of toll. Restitution is the fee or the toll we pay to cross the border from the satanic side to God's side. After the human fall, has there been any man who has completely crossed the border back to God's side? According to the Principle, we must excel Saran; we must do something more than Satan can to pay restitution and go closer to God.

Individuals, families, nations, and a world are already established on Satan's side. One man, Adam, fell in the beginning, and that means all his descendants have been born as fallen men. In the course of restoration, we cannot go from the world level to lower levels. Where does restoration through restitution start? It must begin from the individual. An individual must cross the individual boundary by having his mind and body united into one; and families must be united into one to cross over the family boundary, going to the next level of clan or nation; the same thing applies to every level, reaching to the world. Since every single man is in the satanic world, we are destined to have to go back to God's bosom by crossing over those boundaries, or those levels, by paying the proper indemnity "fare." The scope grows bigger and bigger. It goes from the individual level to the level of family, and next to the nation, and then to the world. Each level may be different from the preceding one in certain ways, but as it goes to the next level and still the next, it grows bigger in scope. So at the end of the process, the whole world will come into oneness. The broadened scope will include the whole world. If that principle did not apply, it might be very simple for us to be restored.

God needs one perfect model

It has long been a puzzle that God has not been able to save all of mankind in an instant. Rather He has had to wait a long period of time, until man has done something. Seen from this viewpoint, the definition of the perfect man is that he has crossed over all the boundaries to perfect himself. It is very difficult for individuals to go through all those stages, so God's expectation is to have one man as a perfect model and have others follow his example. Before establishing the world of perfection, God's idea was to have one person as the core and have him cross the levels of individual and family and nation and world, with each level or unit of people following his example, to finally restore the whole world.

In this light, when we closely examine the world of Christendom, we find that every Christian group belongs either to the first stage or second or third or fourth, but there has not been any group or any person who has crossed over all the boundaries to reach perfection. So, even religious people are still in the world of the fall, having to pay an indemnity toll to cross each boundary or level, not to speak of the world in general. Those religions have many levels yet to accomplish. How many Christians can there be who are confident enough to have already crossed over all those boundaries, reaching perfection? Have you ever met such a person, with confidence and self-awareness that he is already perfected? Among the Christian leaders, including ministers, evangelists and laymen, have there ever been such men? (No) Has God been struggling so hard only to get that negative answer from people? At all costs, for at least once, God would want to have such a man in whom all the stages have been perfected or fulfilled. Only with the birth of that kind of man, can God have hope for the rest of mankind to be perfected or restored through him. So will the central figure who can be responsible for the restoration of humanity be a man, God, or Satan? Yes, it must be a man.

In what way can that man complete the process of restoration through indemnity? He must be a man who has fought Satan and won over him, thereby gaining the qualification to restore the whole world to God. He must be a man with such strong conviction that he can win the worldwide battle against Satan. This cannot remain just an idea, but he must actualize it; that is the important thing. Can any of you stand in the forefront of others, saying, "I can be responsible for the restoration of man, and I can pay any toll for chis restoration myself." Can any of you pay the indemnity to restore all mankind?

Restoration starts from God

How can you become the person who is responsible for the restoration of other people through indemnity? Restoration through indemnity cannot take place if it starts with a man. Also, the first stage will be transferred to the next, and the next will be transferred to the third, until he brings into one totality all the things he has accomplished. Without that strategy, God could not have this man pay the restitution fee for the complete restoration of the world. Centering around that man, on the individual level he has to fight against an individual saran or evil on the worldwide scope. When he's on the next level, he has to fight the same battle against evil coming from the family level on the worldwide scope. And he does the same on the national level and worldwide level. Finally, he connects all those levels he has fulfilled, so that every level of salvation or restoration will be accomplished through this man.

In the history of the providence of God, there must be one nation of God's choice that can be responsible for making restitution. Suppose the family level is already accomplished by someone. If it is not connected to the individual level below and to the national level above, then it doesn't have any life or meaning in the providence of God. A great man may have accomplished quite a lot in his lifetime on the worldwide level, but if what he has done has nothing to do with the restoration of God of you pay the indemnity to restore all mankind?

The chosen nation must win over Satan

To review, God wanted a nation of His choice -- the Israelite people. That is why we see that the main requirement of the Israelites was that they cling to their tradition. They were chosen people, and they knew that it was their mission to establish a foundation or tradition for the rest of the world to follow. God wanted this nation to win over satanic power. This nation needs to have the notion that they cannot be defeated by satanic power, because their mission is to accomplish God's will. Centering around the nation, God wanted to have the rest of the world restored to God's side Therefore He would have one man go through the individual level, family level, national level, and the worldwide level. And He sometimes exposes that person or the whole nation to a satanic invasion to test them. In the face of difficulties and hardships, if the individual, family and nation win over satanic power, then God will recognize their qualifications. On every level there have been many sacrifices. Without gaining the qualification of having won over all those things on each level, they cannot bring the whole of mankind back to God.

In Israelite history, let us take the example of Jacob. He went to Haran, and after long years of drudgery there had to come back with a victory earned by himself. In the satanic world of Haran, the evil satanic power did everything and anything to defeat him. In Egypt, God formed the base of the chosen nation, and then the whole nation of Egypt came against the Israeli people. In trying to enter the land of Canaan, God mobilized seven tribes to fight against the chosen nation of the Israelites. After going through the battle on many levels including the period of judges and other trials, and remaining intact from satanic invasion, they became part of the Roman Empire.

The whole of Christianity had to go through difficulties in the Roman Empire, having to pay a great price, including much martyrdom, but then they moved to another level. In the face of persecution from Catholicism, Protestantism was born and the Protestants had to flee to America. Protestants from all the European nations came to the continent of America for religious freedom. Then where is America - representing the whole of Christendom -- headed for? America is facing a Communist threat. The Communists are taking the offensive and if America 'cannot win over Communist power, it is doomed to perish. Both in Judaism and Christianity, God wanted His people to fight through, winning over the satanic power on every level. America, however, even though she is the leading nation in the Christian and democratic world is now retreating from accomplishing God's will. Among the Christian population in America, is there any group of people left who have the confidence to win over satanic power to accomplish God's will? (No) What shall we do with America and the democratic world of God's preparation? Will we just let them alone if they perish, if they fall prey to Satan? (No) What shall we do? Who will fight? (We will!)

Who will fight?

This is the question: who will fight against satanic power? In paying indemnity on the individual level, family level, national level and worldwide level, God would rather have America -- which has been prepared for this mission -- do the job. But in case He doesn't find that taking place in this nation, He must use someone else, some other group for the mission. Who can carry out that task? God has prepared individuals, families, and nations. In America, which is the melting pot of all the nationalities, God has prepared the people to pay indemnity and save the whole world. But among the Christian population in this nation, God cannot find this being done. So someone or some group must do the job, and God is looking for this someone. God has failed to find such a group in the established churches. So, we are mobilizing ourselves in the Unification movement to do the job, and this is the chief significance of our group.

Christians as individuals must have such strong faith as Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, inherit their missions, and take the responsibility for the restoration of the whole world on their shoulders. There must be at least one person like that. We must be aware that we can accomplish the mission which Abraham failed to accomplish, Moses failed to accomplish, and even Jesus failed in part to accomplish. In the Unification Church, we represent the whole of humanity, and go through all those gates by paying indemnity.

On God's side, there's no nation established as yet. God cannot assemble good people from all over the world to fight against the evil worldwide power. Is there any nation on God's side? (No) Is America God's nation? (No) Are we a nation as yet? (No) We don't now have a nation. We are forming units of families and tribes and are in the process of forming a nation. But before we can do that, there's a fierce battle to be fought.

Satan will test you

You must become such a person that even Satan will say "I cannot win over this person, I must surrender before him!" God, too, must expose you to the evil power, and you must fight at the risk of your life; at the end of the battle, Satan will give up and then he cannot accuse you of any evil quality. Then, God can sign your sheet. But without having Satan's autograph, approving your being God's son, you cannot go back to His bosom. From the nature of Satan, do you think Satan would just freely sign your sheet without testing you and putting you in the utmost difficulty? (No!) Satan will come to you with more power gathered, and more strength collected; if you fight back and win over him again and again, finally he will abandon you.

That's the final victory only on the individual level. Even though you are a victor there, a stronger Satan is awaiting you in ambush, saying, "Wait and see if you come up to this level, I will fight against you with more power!" Roughly divided, you have to go through four levels of fight: individual level, family level, national level, and worldwide level. On what level are you situated? When can you reach that final level? That is the question.

In becoming sons and daughters of filial piety to your parents, you must excel all other men in the satanic world: in being patriots of your nation, you must excel anyone else in the satanic world, excelling even Satan. You must topple even Abraham; and in being loyal to humanity, you must excel any other person in the world -- any other saint in the world. You must even excel Jesus Christ. Are you like that? You must answer honestly to yourselves. Are you awakened to the fact every morning when you get up from bed that you have such an important mission on your shoulders? If you represent God's side, would you rather stand where all the satanic power is mobilized to fight against you, or in such a weak position that the satanic powers are not concerned about your presence?

Let me pay the indemnity

Your attitude must be, "Any indemnity which man may have to pay, let it be paid by me." The ideal tactic is for you to call to the enemy, letting him shower you with all his bullets for the individual level, family level, national level and worldwide level at once. If you survive all those shots, and they run out of bullets, then you are going to be the winner. However difficult and bitter the satanic attacks may be, if you are well-trained, disciplined and toughened up, then you are qualified enough to fight back against the satanic power; also you are likely to win over them. You must be determined to pierce the heart of Saran and return to God. Restoration through indemnity will take place through you and in no other way. Through you as individuals, restitution muse be paid. You must have faith that you will be ready for the bullets amidst you; you are not standing there for your sake alone but for your family, your nation and the whole world. You must be determined to be the persons whom, wherever you go, your family will follow, your nation will follow, and the whole world will follow.

This is what I think: whatever may come from Satan, let it come all at once! Since there is so much indemnity to pay and there are no other persons who can be responsible for that, we must be able to take the responsibility. If you are all-out in your efforts to fight against Satan, would God recognize you? Not in an instant, no. In my past experience, there have been many such occasions in which God put me to the test, even though I was ready and determined to win the battle. God would allow Satan to attack me; in the face of the attack, if I retreated, God could not help me out.

I have fought all my life with this sense of mission. When individuals came against me, I had to fight against them and win over them. When a group of people came against me, I did the same. When whole churches and the nation or any unit of the community came against me, I did the same. In the whole world I want to gather the people who are prepared for this mission, and form a tribe or nation to fight against the satanic nations of the world. Would you want to become God's child, God's family, God's tribe, and God's nation? If you want to do that, do you think you can do it all by yourself, on your own? (No!) Do you think you can become that, if you follow me? (Yes!) You cannot accomplish that with a lukewarm thought and attitude. You must be like me, brave and strong in face of any difficulty.

Our mission is worldwide

If we call ours a godly nation or a godly group, we must take the responsibility to defeat Satan. We are going to do that for the whole of mankind. Even though we are a religion, our fight is not going to be on the scope of that religion, but on the scope of the world. We have the mission of having to save the whole of mankind, including its good and its evil members. We have the mission of saving the American people and the established churches in America. What about the criminals in the prisons? Can we exclude the criminals in the prisons? (No) If you are imprisoned, you must be the savior for all the rest of the criminals.

Without your being able to liberate mankind on earth, can you liberate the population living in the spirit world? (No!) The established religions have never thought of this. They just prayed for their own good with folded hands, without thinking of saving the satanic world, liberating the people from the real prison of life, and liberating the whole population in the spirit world. In many religions, people separated themselves from the mundane world, escaped from the worldly way of life, kept themselves intact from evil, maybe, but they didn't think of saving the rest of mankind. In Catholicism, for instance, they wear special black habits, and say lofty things that indicate they are saved people, different from ordinary people. In that way, we cannot save the world. Without their mingling together with the rest of the world, there's no way for them to save the world. We must abandon that way of thinking.

In the providence of God, after America's bicentennial she must extend her hands for the salvation of the whole world. The Christian ideology must be realized not only in the nation of America, but in the whole world through the American people. That has been God's will. We must influence and stir up the whole nation to make the people think that without the Unification movement and its young people, they cannot save the nation and the world. Leave American people in our hands, and we will re-make them into bold people to fight against any evil power in the whole world. We will make the world a better place to live in -- the Kingdom of God on earth. That is why God blessed this nation. God wanted to have the Christian people to make this nation and world like that. God has prepared this nation with democracy to make the whole world a free world. But Christianity in this nation and democracy itself have led to the nation and the world being more and more under satanic dominion. God cannot leave this situation alone.

Fading Christianity must be revived

The founding ideology of your nation was Christianity, and your forefathers came from the old world to the new continent of America for religious freedom. Now you are forgetting that, and the Christian ideology is fading away in this nation. So even though the whole nation fights against us, we must fight back, win over them, and establish a new nation of America. We must become new Puritans establishing a new movement, to found a nation anew on this continent. We must make America rise again, instead of allowing her to decline. You must have that sense of mission and accomplish it. You were born in America, raised in America, and educated in America, but you are not the Americans you should be. I must make you into new Americans.

In the established churches, people are leaving the church. In democracy, people are forgetting God. In our movement, we must restore the churches so they are full of devout Christians, and we must restore the people back to God's bosom by carrying out our mission. There are many difficulties and hardships coming to this nation. With this in mind you must be ready to shoulder any responsibilities and difficult problems. If you are ready for that, we will succeed. This means we will bear the most dreadful responsibility for this nation and world. We must gather the strength of the declining churches and revive them. We must re-vitalize the declining spirit of Americanism. We must be responsible for victory over Communism. We cannot afford to lose a moment.

In this crucial period, whatever you think, whatever you say, whatever you do must be associated with the will of God; and every difficulty you meet must be overcome by your paying the necessary indemnity. You must be proud of yourselves for having been born and endowed with life in this precious period in the providence of God. However hard the indemnity toll may be, you must go through it as though you were kicking a ball. You must be so confident as to do that. We will ignite the world.

History is proof that evil men as well as good men are remembered by posterity long after their life on earth. That which was done for others and left for the benefit of the future is remembered by later generations. For example, in his own day nobody thought that what Jesus did was going to be remembered by later generations, so people had no qualms about persecuting him. But in fact he is loved by people all around the world two thousand years after he lived.

In Christianity and in other religions, the most beloved members acted only to benefit all humanity, centering on God’s will. That’s why their deeds are remembered. They had the power to overcome all difficulties and hardships. The power which made this possible was their faith in God. In history, the more persecuted the religious people were, the more dynamic and spirited they became in their deeds. When pressure was put on those people they showed great vitality.

The same thing applies to our everyday life. The stronger, more courageous people will survive persecution and difficulty. They will rise again and again despite much oppression. In its first few centuries Christianity was so vigorous that its people strove onward in spite of severe oppression and mass persecution; they worked underground in order to survive, and they prevailed.

With that in mind, whenever I am contemplating our future plans, I ask myself, “Will our people remain?” There’s no question that if we are greeted with a warm welcome some place, we are going to stay there. But in the face of animosity and hostility the key question becomes, “How will we survive?”

Surviving Oppression

I have been thinking of tactics for confronting difficulties. When oppression comes, you must grow sideways, horizontally. You become tougher under oppression; smaller but harder. Or else, you can burrow into the ground and thrust your roots deep into the soil. After the preparation period underground, you can sprout again with more power and energy than before. When you are oppressed, whether you grow sideways or go into the ground and become small and hard, you must have surplus power which will enable you to surge up again with renewed strength. I myself am a good example. Through almost thirty years of oppression I have learned how to grow in a robust way.

As greater oppression was heaped on me, it looked like I was becoming smaller, but in fact I hardened myself and made myself stronger. When I dug into the ground, I prepared to spring up later on, when the oppression was gone.

Let’s think of the example of how seeds grow. If seeds from a pine tree growing in a tropical area are planted in a temperate zone, they don’t grow very well. But if you transplant that whole pine tree from the tropical zone to the temperate zone and protect it for a while, then it will grow. Like a tree, if you are transplanted from an old place to a new one, where the temperature and everything is not suitable for you, you must become adaptable and try to absorb nourishment, even though it is a strange land. Suppose you are in a high-level university position and think the power of oppression cannot possibly push you into the ground; if that happens anyway and you cannot grow there, you will die.

If you are pushed into the ground you must spring back, but it is not such an easy task as it may sound. You must pour out all your effort to fight back and make a breakthrough to sprout again. You must be able to digest the poor nutrients. For example, if the young people who have been living in such free circumstances in the United States were to be brought under a regime of communist oppression, it would be hard for them to endure. They would probably be so shocked, appalled, and discouraged that they would submit to despair. That’s very possible. But if you are always ready to receive what may come to you, even though the circumstances are unspeakably difficult, you will have excess power to survive the situation.

Even under communist oppression I was always making detailed plans as to how my people and I would survive the situation. I always had big plans, even under persecution. My mission was to discover how to make the breakthrough and overcome the oppression coming from the government. Established churches also persecuted us bitterly and used their influence to turn people against us. I always thought to myself, “If they come against us with a unified effort I will break through.” I hoped that all of these groups—the communists, the established churches, and the government—might come against us all at once, so that I might break through every barrier at one time.

When I look back on my past, I’m grateful that I was persecuted by the communist regime, by the South Korean regime, and by the ministers and laymen of established churches in my native land. I overcame all this oppression. Now, in South Korea, both the government and the people think, “We will get nothing out of persecuting the Unification Church.” The established church ministers and laymen think, “We will lose if we attack these people.” In Japan, too, our people have been fighting against communist power; the communists have fallen into serious difficulties and are being defeated.

I never thought of escaping from the situation when the government and the established churches opposed our movement; not even when the communists attacked us. Now they have seen that no matter what persecution is launched against me I will not be defeated.

Are we still suppressed, or is our movement springing up conspicuously? We have already survived all those difficulties, and we are growing. If we have survived all these difficulties in Korea, can we not do the same in other countries? If the people of the world know that we can survive any situation in any country, then there’s a way for us to break through until we reach every corner of the earth. We are wrestlers in the arena of life; if we win over our opponents, the majority of the people will follow us: people usually follow the winners. You must realize how miserable the defeated are. Are you going to survive all hardships, or dwindle and die away?

Do Not Fear Hardship

I’m going to tell you a story from my time in North Korean prisons. I went through much torture. But before I was taken to be tortured I was rather anxious to go through that kind of thing—to experience it, to know what it really was like. With each strike of the bat, with each jab, I was ready for it; I accepted the challenge. You must study everything. When faced with torture, you must know how to prepare yourself for it. If you are scared the pain will be greater, but if you are prepared to fight against it, you’ll feel less pain.

When it comes, if you are concentrating on fighting back, then you can survive the torture. In my mind I always thought, “I’m fighting back spiritually,” when the physical blasts came. However severely they beat me, it was they who got exhausted, because every moment I was thinking that I could never be defeated by them. My spiritual sword would pierce through their hearts. Therefore rumors spread through the prison that Rev. Moon was such a formidable man that he simply could not be defeated.

You don’t know what prison life is like in North Korea. When I was in Hungnam prison, all the prisoners were supposed to put fertilizer into sacks. When you made rope out of this cloth, which still had the fertilizer on it, your flesh would be eaten away and sometimes your bones would be exposed. There was always blood dripping from your hands. If you were scared by that, you could not survive the situation.

All during that time I thought, “However hard they may drive me, I will survive the situation at all costs. Come what may, even if you torture me more severely, I can survive.” Then I experienced how much greater is the power of spirit than that of the physical body. Instead of coming to my knees before those conditions I found more courage to fight back. All the prisoners, even the jailers and warden, came to respect me. I was cited for being the best worker. So, however bitter and wretched prison life may be, you must know how to make a breakthrough and prevail over the situation.

The next thing is how to endure extreme heat or cold. It is easier to survive heat. To overcome sleeplessness is a most horrible thing. But I could overcome it. I thought that even though I might have to die there, my spirit would survive the situation, and so I did not die in the real sense. If I could not survive the situation even on the spiritual level, my mission could not be accomplished even by my successors.

The reason for my telling you about this is that you are going to be faced with many difficulties in the 130 nations you are being sent to. If the whole nation you are assigned to comes against you, you must be prepared to die there, like a seed buried deep in the soil; then a new life will spring up from the seed that was sown.

Wherever you go, I’m almost sure that the established churches will come against you. Communists are even more formidable enemies; they are all ready to fight against us. You have been faced with a considerable amount of difficulty here, but you can never imagine what is going to come to you in those unknown lands, especially where communism is rampant.

You must always be thinking of how to raise a leader from that nation who can succeed you in your mission, in case of difficulties. If you find yourself unable to remain in the country, be wise enough to raise a leader out of that people as soon as possible.

Don’t ever dream of using the people of that land as if they were your servants, just ordering them to do this and that for you. You are to serve them. Don’t ever think of being indebted to others. You must use and exercise your own power to do the job.

Drive yourself into the soil like a seed, endure the difficulties, and break through to grow in that land and its climate. You must be determined not to allow your eyes to be scared by the sight of evil things, and not to let your ears be frightened by what you hear. Don’t let your mouth speak weak things, or you will fail. Use your whole being to fight against evil power in that land. You must have strength of character and power of life, as a tree will grow in spite of the pressure of massive rocks—it will grow sideways or somehow find its way out.

You must find ways to open the hearts of other people by giving lectures which will move them; you must know how to raise money in that country so you can stand on your own economically; and you must be able to do good public relations work so that you can open up a channel to reach out to all the people there. I want you to become people who can survive any and every situation. When you look at me you can see that I’m tough, strong, and elastic—like a ball; the harder you throw it, the higher it bounces. For people united with the will of God, difficult situations and rebuffs are only a greater challenge; you can survive and can utilize bad situations as fertilizer, to nourish your tree. Our movement is like a root and a tree coming from Father. You are in that way one with me; you are related to me, you are interested in whatever I’m doing, and you choose to act and think and speak as I do.

Before coming to the United States, I was prepared to survive any situation I would meet here. I knew that the Mafia was in this country, and I planned how to win over them. I expected that communists would come against me, and I was prepared for that. I knew that there was racial discrimination here, and I planned how to overcome it. I was determined to grow like a tree, to set my roots deep into the hearts of the people—be they black or white. If two powers collide with each other, a battle will ensue. Clashes will be heard during the fray, but we must take them as an omen of the coming victory we are entitled to after the hard fight. If we are a persecuted group in this evil world, that is a good sign, for the clamor about us is but the noise of the collapse of evil itself. We can never be defeated.

By my sending you out to so many nations, our message and way of life will spread to every corner of the earth. You will wrestle with people of power, and I will watch to see if you win over them or are defeated. Use every tactic you can in good conscience employ, and don’t ever let them go until they surrender. If you let them go before bringing them to that point, they will become enemies. Then when they come to kill you, they will have more people on their side. So don’t let go until the people of that nation bow to you and admire you.

Don’t Make Enemies

You must also remember that it was not the Roman soldiers, but Jesus’ own disciples who betrayed him and brought him to the cross. The same was true with the Mormon Church. It was not the enemies of Joseph Smith who caused his death, but his own followers. You must realize that your enemy is in your own home, in your own family, just as Jesus said. Those who oppose our movement and myself are often not outsiders, but those who once were members and left. I don’t want to make enemies of anyone. Even if members fall away, I want them still to be able to respect me, and not hate me or call me names.

Wherever you are sent, you are going to be the ancestor of that nation under God’s will, so don’t make enemies with people!

You must be able to love even your enemies. That’s the tactic for survival. When you are only a handful of people, you are apt to lose if you fight, so try to steer the way without fighting, without making enemies. Let people know that you are doing things for their own sake; that you are serving the people at the sacrifice of yourself. You must be able to love them, serve them, educate them, survive difficulties, and be an example to them.

We are training ourselves to be strong, so as not to die under persecution when we are planted in unfamiliar lands. Any organization that educates people to adapt themselves to any situation will be successful. Suppose you think that you are suited to be planted in a tropical zone; if you are sent to the arctic zone, you are sure to die. If you keep thinking that you are more suited for a cold place and you are sent to the tropical zone, you will wither away. You must be prepared to adapt to any kind of situation and surrounding. You must be able to enjoy nights as you would days, and glorify in whatever experience you are going through.

If you train yourself to think of a tunnel or cliff as if it were level ground, you will not fear any difficulties. In the army people are severely trained in order to enable them to survive any situation or difficulty. We don’t know what kind of surroundings or circumstances you are going to encounter, so I want you to be trained in such a way that you will accommodate yourself to any situation. You are going to be transplanted into other soil. Are you confident that you will grow wholesomely there? Nobody will supply any nourishment. You must go on your own, absorbing nutrients out of that soil. I don’t want you to beg for support from the United States headquarters. For the first few months or years we may give some assistance, but that will only play the role of fertilizer; not more. What is more important than gaining support from outside is that the tree you plant absorbs nutriment from the land’s own soil.

You must be able to survive any and every situation. When I was under persecution back in Korea, I was not conspicuous. I was somewhere underground, raising my people. Suddenly I became conspicuous, and began to grow—not only myself but all my members. I was the detonator; when I commanded them to explode, they exploded from so many places at one time that they surprised the whole of Korea.

I want you to prepare during this training seminar to prevail over all the difficulties you will face in your assigned countries, so that one day in the future we can all meet together and rejoice in our heavenly victory.
